Iran's clerical assembly has selected Mochitaba Kamanai, the second son of the late supreme

leader Ayatollah Ali Kamanai as the new supreme leader.

The decision came Sunday through a decisive vote, with state media urging all Iranians

to unite behind him during this tough time.

Ali Kamanai had ruled for 37 years before a U.S.-Israeli strike killed him in Tehran

on February 28, kicking off the war with Iran.

Officials move fast to back the choice, from the armed forces to parliament, calling it

a religious and national duty.

Trump quickly slammed the pick, saying Mochitaba is unacceptable and won't last long without

U.S. approval.

He insists America should have a say in Iran's leadership.

Israel echoed that, bowing to target any successors.

The 56-year-old cleric grew up in Iran's power circles after the 1979 revolution.

He studied theology, fought in the Iran-Iraq war, and built quite influence in his father's

office, plus ties to the revolutionary guards, without ever, holding public office.
