Montreal Police Arrest Four for Counterfeit Cash Scam
Montreal police have apprehended four individuals, aged between eighteen and twenty-two, suspected of involvement in three separate cases of circulating and spending counterfeit money. The suspects were found to be purchasing electronics with fake hundred-dollar bills, all bearing the same serial number.
One arrest was made in late February when an undercover officer discovered a social media page selling counterfeits, leading to a raid at a twenty-year-olds residence in Ahuntsic-Cartierville. Two twenty-two-year-olds were also apprehended following a search in St-Léonard, where over sixteen thousand dollars in fake bills and other evidence were found.
The police advise the public to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of banknotes by tilting them to see holograms shift colors, checking the transparent bands color and integrity, feeling for raised ink on the big numbers and portraits, and comparing serial numbers, as counterfeiters often reuse the same ones.
