I think you guys know I just stay in the practice. I don't come in on player contracts. I guess probably the easiest thing to say is if we wanted to
trade miles, we wouldn't be able to make a contract adjustment so it doesn't have anything to do with that.
I was Andrew Barrett yesterday talking to the media.
I just, I look at it like Clint Kubiak was also speaking to the media yesterday.
It's not a lot of things about how now Max Crosby's a raider and Max Crosby's not going anywhere.
And what a great offseason edition. He feels like the team now made and getting him back.
And it's like guys, they'll idea every one of them. They just, they just straight up lie.
They want to fit whatever narrative they want to fit into that little box.
And then they do so. And so like Andrew Barry, you can dress it up whatever you want.
I'm just, I'm not paying attention. And like, if this is different than I feel like some other people, Darryl,
where at least you're like, all right, they always blend some, some wins of the truth.
So maybe sometimes you can get some little pieces.
Oh, Andrew Barry's game is lined, everybody. I just can't believe the amount of people that
still fall for it. Well, and yeah, he's been here long enough now that you, you should understand
how this goes. And you have to take what he says with a grain of salt. And yes, there is a,
there is an element of misdirection that is required with his job because you don't always want
to be tipping your hand as far as what your true plans, your true intentions are. That being said,
it's some point that the Pinocchio Lowe knows gets so long that people stop paying attention to
you. Yeah, well, you're not going to get perjured. Like, this is not, you're not, there's not a court
of law. I think sometimes people think that like, this is, they're on a stand and they have to tell
the truth and they, they swore on the Bible, all these other things. It's like, guys, this is,
this is the game. This is what they do. Well, it's why I always remind folks that the soundbites are
not sworn testimony. Yeah, you're not wrong for that. So, all right. So when we're thinking about
this though, did Andrew Barry do enough to silence the Miles Garrett trade conversations for you
and for me, I don't think it's anywhere close, but there are a segment of the fans out there
that are like, I guess he said it. I guess that's what we have to go off of now. Well, yeah, I mean,
there are people that are saying, yeah, and Miles Garrett, or I should say, Andrew Barry said
he's not trading Miles Garrett. And no, that's not what he said yesterday. He did not kill that
at all. Now, you got out of it last year because you said the same thing a year ago after Miles
request, hey, we're not trading Miles. And okay, you gained the contract extension. So you were
in that respect, true to your word, but there's no contract extension to do now. Okay, there's
no formal trade request, at least one that we are aware of that has been made. I also, I also,
Darrell, don't know what like, carrot, they can dangle from Miles at this point. Right. I
hypothesize that maybe Miles is still a little frustrated by the state of affairs. They still
don't have a quarterback. It's going to be the Sean Watson v. Shredor Sanders, at least is we
have this discussion right now. That's what the competition is going to be. That's what Andrew
Barry talked about yesterday. I still can't believe that Andrew Barry even is throughout
there the contemplation of extending the Sean Watson's contract. That's a whole
another side discussion. But yeah, if I'm Miles Garrett, that doesn't get me excited at all
for the upcoming season. You look at what was done so far in the off season. Okay, the offensive
line was put back together. You had to do that. Fine. Give you credit for that. Maybe it is
a little better than the unit that you put out there last year, at least on paper. It appears
to be a more versatile offensive line than what you had a year ago and flexible. But outside of
that, the wide receivers do that. That's not any better. The quarterback room. Well, no,
that's not any better. The tight end room. No, that's not any better. The running back room.
Yeah, no, that's not any better. Like if I'm Miles Garrett, now I'm looking at that. I'm sitting
there saying, man, defense is going to have to carry this thing again. Well, and it's also
becoming pretty obvious that next year is as Albert's been calling it for a while. It's a transition
year. And you can make that whatever you want to turn it into. Last year was a transition year,
but it's not a four was a transition year. It's not a we're going to win a bunch of games type
year. Whatever way you want to address that up, whatever term you want to use rebuild year,
transition year, it's not a we're winning a lot of games year. And that's all that Miles
really cares about at this point. Here's where I get frustrated with the dishonesty. I don't feel
the Browns are being honest with their fans. I don't think they're honest for the past two years
about this. They're they're they're trying to sell folks on. We're not rebuilding yet. You're
putting a rebuilding type of product on the field. Okay. At least on the offensive side of the
ball that your defense was and this is again, the frustrating thing with their team building
processes and the failure, the failure with it has been you did not align the emergence of your
defense into one of the NFL's best with a competent offense. Right. Okay. The offense is a
complete gut job rebuild. Still don't have a franchise quarterback. Well, that's okay. What
else is new? You haven't had one since Bernie Cosa, right? You got Baker gave you a little
breather there with those 51 56 starts or whatever it was in a row. He at least showed up to play.
Okay. And then now you'll look at the receiver room and Andrew is basically telling you at the
owner's meetings yesterday when talking about that. Well, you know, we really believe in our
internal options. Okay. First of all, your internal options. There's a couple of those dudes
don't belong on an NFL roster and you brought them in. Okay. You wear that wide receiver room.
You couldn't get a contract in front of Jerry Judy fast enough. I don't know what was what
was faster or what the sense of urgency was was quicker. Denver, get that dude out of their building
and off their roster or you getting a contract extension in front of them. Okay. We got one good
year at a Jerry Judy. Now we got the Denver Bronco Jerry Judy last year. Okay. And I have no
reasons to suspect this year's going to be better. I am to be fair to Jerry though. I do like
seeing the social media posts of him working out with should or centers. Okay. That makes me feel
a little better. Maybe he's had a little bit of a deep breath and a mental reset and all that.
Okay. Fine. But Sandra Tillman, we've been hearing for a couple years how he's going to be this big
red zone threat. And that's why they drafted him. He's not and you've not used him that way and
he's not been healthy enough to be any of that. Every other receiver that you have brought in
here at least through the draft have been third and later picks. And none of them are any good.
Yeah. But you're going to sit there and I think what Andrew's doing is he's now blaming all
of that. He's blaming his bad draft picks on Kevin's to Fansky and on the coaching staff
for failure to develop those guys. He said it after they fired to Fansky. Remember Jimmy
that is kind of been like the two different stories that we wondered that for a while though.
I can't try to answer that question. At any time we've talked about the three different
third round wide receivers that they've taken. It's always been that question of is it a
is it a failure to draft properly or is it a failure to develop these guys. By the way,
did I see Dorian Thompson Robinson didn't even get a a UFL job? Well, TTR stinks. That's not
we don't even have to go down that road. No, but I'm just making it because again, this is another
one of these Andrew Barry. If I was if I was Andrew Barry, what I would be doing is I'd be saying
you can't you can't possibly believe that in three straight third round wide receivers that I
just can't choose these guys properly. If I were him, if I was trying to spin it the right way,
I'd be like, yeah, Stofansky was letting them run amok. And by the way, it is a criticism that
I've hurled at Stofansky before. Right. The idea that he doesn't ever develop anybody. And like,
you are as good as you came into the Stofansky relationship is as good as you're going
to be. Right. You're not going to get any better. You're not going to get any worse, but you're
not going to get any better. And it's on you. And unfortunately, when you have a lot of young players
come in, they need some of that guidance. They need some of that coaching. I don't know.
Stofansky just didn't know. He just didn't have. Yeah. And again, that's we got two separate
stories. We got Jimmy Talos while Kevin didn't win enough games eight and two years on acceptable.
That's all we showed him the door. And then Andrew Barry is like, yeah, well, you know, really the
reason behind this whole thing was just not enough progress behind the scenes with a lot of the
young players. And that was I think Andrew Barry passing the buck off. But you said you feel like
they haven't been honest with the fans. Why do you think that is? I don't think they've been
honest with the fans because they're not telling them were about, you know, they're trying to sell
them that they're going to be competitive every year. So and this is the part I agree with you.
And this is the part that has made me so frustrated in the past couple of years. They they
presented before the season gets underway as them trying. But if you, if you just look at their
actions, it never aligns. Right. Last off season, they didn't really do anything. I mean, that was,
that was one off one addition on the defensive line in Malik. And that's really about it. They
didn't really do anything. And if you looked at it, it's like, well, why is it then that so many
people as it got closer and closer, we're moving their, uh, their win lost total from five,
six games to seven games, then eight games, then I think coach Rizz at like nine games,
they were going to win by the time we got to opening day. Like, like, why? And like, what is
different between this year and what you've seen in the past couple, not much of my estimation,
at least, especially not from last year. And we still, we still haven't seen anything. And
that's why I'm sitting here saying, hey, maybe they just go ahead and win the games that they
felt they should have won last season. This year, that is their improvement because they're
not much better. This, you know, they felt like they should have won seven or eight games last
season with an offense that average less than 17 points per game. This is a franchise historically
that has an offense that averages fewer than 20 points per game. By the way, 20 points per game
in the National Football League, that's a C grade. Okay, that means you're average. That is the
baseline in the NFL. They are so incompetent and inept when it comes to offenses and the quarterback
has a big thing, right? The quarterback carousel major, major reason why, no, but they're so inept
when it comes to offense. All right, four of the eight years that you actually did average,
at least 20 points came under the guy you just fired. So as painful as some of those years were
under Kevin, right? And I'm not sitting here apologizing for Kevin or saying, bring the guy back,
but the reality is offensively, historically under his tenure, the Browns were leaps and bounds
better than anything that they've had since coming back in 99. And that right there encapsulates
the stinctitude of this franchise. Just stinctitude? Yes, the stench. That's not a word.
No, it's not stinctitude. It's not a word. I don't hate it. It's a new derilism. I don't hate it.
I kind of like it. There's a certain word you can just throw anything in the back of it. It'll
play the stinctitude. Yeah, the stinctitude of this franchise, right? You can smell it all the way
in Arizona. It's so bad, right? It was incredibly dumb, but it sounded smart. Right. Yeah, that's,
that's right. You know what? I have to, I have to bite my tongue. I almost said something. I
should have said. It gave very close. No, why not? Go for it. No, we need, we need, we need some,
the show's absent of people that'll take shots at other people. We need, we need more of that in the show.
Well, you don't see the problem is I have to answer for the shots that I take. I, I don't know,
do you? Yeah, because I'm the one that's out there. Let's make it the goal. Let's make it,
let's make it the goal as many shots. You guys are nowhere to be seen. Me. I'm out there every day.
That's true. I hide. I have to hide. I have to hide behind the mic, you know, in front of thousands of
people. I hide every day. But hey, it wasn't, there's an open line. If Andrew Barry wants to call in,
we'll give him a couple minutes. I don't know. I'll give him anything more than that. I mean,
he's just lying to everybody, but I'll give him a couple minutes. All right. There's one of the
things that happened today in the NFL. As sources had, Tom Policero was first on it. Then all it
said came trickling him. The Browns withdrew their rules, changed proposal that would have allowed
teams to trade draft picks up to five years in advance, rather than the current three years.
We've been here at Whispers for a couple of days now. This was not going to end up going through.
And then ultimately, it doesn't end up going through. Are you surprised that we never even got to
a vote on this? I'm disappointed. Really? Why's that? You know what? If you get to put something
out there, stand by it. If you're going to go down and flames, go down and flames. Like, don't
back off. That's a coward's way out. Yeah, I don't love the withdrawing part of it. Why does
we'll see this thing through? Even if it gets, well, I think their point was they were trying to
like raise awareness. I think was all it was. Yeah, let's float. Let's float this out there.
Let's get people talking about it. Yeah. Okay. All we did though was turn Browns fans into,
wait, is this for Arch Manning or is this for Miles Garrett? That's all that ended up
happening with this. Like, dude, it's funny. Jake before the show was wondering whether or not
this made the Browns look bad. Do you feel like this ultimately just made the Browns look bad?
Yeah. Made him look dumb. Really? Yeah. I, I, I, this is just trial balloon. They tossed out
there. Made him look dumb. Well, it wasn't just a trial balloon. They filed paperwork with the
league office to, to, to, you know, for the, the proposal, they, they came up with the language
and everything. And then all of a sudden it gets to the day or the day before they're supposed to vote
on all this and they, they read, they read the room. Okay. What are we understood? They don't have
the, yes, right? The, the, the one thing, the one area, I'll give them credit for. Even though,
again, I think their cowards, I will give them credit. They read the room. They did something that,
the Browns did something that they never do. They read the room. They actually read the room
this time. But that makes it sadder because that almost makes it like, as if they came up with this
idea and really thought it was going to get through the first go round, nothing ever gets through
the first go round. Very rarely do you get it through the first go round, but also like the,
I, I, it makes me more suspect than anything. Well, I think that the Rams were the only team
supporting it. So I'm so stinking to it on it. It would have lost two to 30. Oh, really,
that badly. I, yeah, I think, I think they, that, that, again, they read the room and that's why they
pulled it off the table. Absolutely. I don't know about that, but I like, I like how you're speaking,
Darryl. Stay aggressive on it, Darryl. Quick hits coming your way next. Chris Jimenez coming
your way at three o'clock. A lot of Guardians baseball to discuss there. It's Darryl Ryder,
John of the Pedal and afternoon drive with you guys right here on the fan.
