New DNA Evidence in 1903 Rape Case

On March 27, a man named Paul Quinn faces charges in a 1903 rape case that wrongly sent

Andrew Malkinson to prison for 17 years.

Prosecutors say Quinn's DNA, a billion to one match, turned up on the victim's clothing

thanks to new testing.

The attack happened and suffered, and Quinn, now 51, and living in Devon, denies any role

in it.

Right after news broke about the DNA breakthrough in the case, Quinn started searching his

iPhone for how long police keep DNA samples.

This came months after cops took his own sample back in 2012.

Officials argue he got anxious, fearing they'd link it to him.

In court at Manchester Crown Court, the prosecutor grilled Quinn on those late-night searches,

suggesting he couldn't sleep from worry.

Quinn brushed it off his pure curiosity tied to his love of true crime shows.

He insisted it was a complete coincidence, and that the case held no interest for him.

Malkinson, originally from Grimsby, fought multiple appeals before getting out in 2020.

He'd been convicted in 2004.

Quinn admits checking case updates now and then, but stays firm in his denials.
