This is Nick, this is Jack. It's Thursday the new Friday, September 10th, and today's bod is the best one you had of this. Is a T-boy. The top three pop business news stories you need to know today. Yet, he stocks are down because oil prices are up. But we've got good news for you. Tickets are still available for our San Francisco live show. Two weeks from yesterday, Wednesday, September 23rd, grab your tickets while you still can't. Can't wait to see that. We got a link in the show notes. But we also have three fantastic stories for the cool show in capitalism, Jack. And what do we got in today's T-boy? For our first story, open Sesame. After more than six years of development, Apple has a foldable phone. The $2,000 iPhone Duo. It is Tim Cook's gift to his new CEO. For our second story, it's Christian D.R., because they're not just a fashion brand anymore. They're now a spa, a yoga studio, and a massage chain. But Christian D.R. spa's have one particular focus, or rich moms on maternity leave. And our third and final story, open AI solved an unsolvable math question by upstreaming a human. Oh boy, when you upload something to AI Yeti's,
will AI use your work against you? But besties before we hit that wonderful mix of stories. Oh, what a mix of stories. Best mix for the new Friday, Jack. The NFL's first football game ever played in Australia is tonight, the Rams versus the 49ers, which is also the longest distance ever traveled for a professional football game. But tonight's football game is actually a grand experiment in how to handle jet lag. Because the two teams are both traveling from California. But they have two very different strategies for dealing with the time zone difference. Jack, let's sprinkle on some context. There is no tired, like jet lag tired. Is there, man? The biggest debate in every time zone spanning trip you've ever taken, how to handle the jet lag. Oh, honey, should we sleep on the plane or not sleep at all? Or not when we arrive, but then stay up through the rest of the night like it was a regular day. Answer none of the above. But for tonight's game, the San Francisco 49ers flew to Australia one week early. It's a 17 hour time difference. So they got seven days to act. Oh, but the Los Angeles Rams did the opposite, right, Jack? They flew in just one day before the game.
You see, the Rams ran, she used to avoid jet lag altogether by never adjusting at all. So they're playing their first game of the season in Australia, but they're doing it on California time. And get this, the Rams? Yeah, they've ignored time zones and defied jet lag before, haven't they, man? In London last year, the Rams also showed up just 24 hours before kickoff. How did they do in that game, Jack? It was great. They won 35 to seven, although it was the Jaguars, and then they immediately flew home. They have time to take pictures of Big Ben. That's how quick it was. So besties, let us know which method you think is better for managing jet lag. The 49ers strategy of basically moving there or the Rams strategy of just showing up, doing the thing and getting out of there. One week there or one day there, who you got? Let us know in the comments. Vegas left, East Cains on three. Vegas left, East Cains on three. Hut, hut, lesson on three stories. 15 years before this song, two boys from the Northeast met in the dorm. They had an idea to cause a cultural storm. It's the best one yet, but the best is an arm. Jack, Nick, that's the kid.
I don't even think they need to practice. 50%. That's a fat tip. Tea boy city on your ass list. If you know, because we've read to go, we can't wait no more. So just start the show. Start the show. Start the show. First, a quick word from our sponsor. Support comes from wise, the smart way to manage the currencies you need around the world. Your life is global. Your money should be too. Some providers promise no fees on overseas transfers. Don't be fooled. Extra costs often hide in bloated exchange rates. Choose wise. You can send, spend, and receive money in over 40 currencies. Count on the exchange rates that you'd usually see on Google. That's how millions, save billions on hidden fees. Be smart, get wise, visit wise.com. Season C's apply.
For our first story, Apple just unveiled the duo. Their first foldable iPhone for $2,000, what we call it, the iPhone. Apple's duo is really, though, a $2,000 inheritance from Tim Cook to John Ternis. Oh, yeah, he's well, Jack and I were flying back from Texas yesterday in the plane. We were watching the Wednesday product event that started without a bank. Yeah, because John Ternis took the stage for the first time as Apple CEO, but it actually wasn't a stage. It was a pre-recorded film. It was. Jack and I were hoping he would bring back the onstage product, unveil magic, and like the man in the arena style, just like Steve Jobs back in the day. But we didn't get that. He kept going with the pandemic precedent of pre-produced films. We got no showmanship, no spontaneity. Now, he's got a highly produced film that was locked in a week ago, like a Jeep commercial. And that Apple product event started with the Apple iPhone 18, which only comes in the pro variety. Although new colors, Jack, glacier, and burgundy, like the branding on those, then they showed us the new Siri again.
Siri AI is a bunch of features that were already announced at previous events. Hey Siri, what are we getting at new new Siri? September 14th. That's when you can update the new iOS. Although there is a new Apple Watch feature, Jack, that does reveal your true health age. Yeah, based on your health metrics, it'll tell you whether you're your actual age, health wise, or younger or older than your age, health wise. I'm 35 going on 25 as the new Flexit brunch, guys. But then, then we finally got something pretty special, because John Turner said, one more thing. He was paying homage to Steve Jobs famous. Is it trademarked, Jack? That one? It should be. It should be. That line from when Steve Jobs first introduced the iPhone back in 2007. Because John Turner's in his second week, a CEO of Apple said one more thing. He introduced the most transformational iPhone since the OG. Ah, the duo, the foldable phone that fits in your pocket. Size with passport, while it's closed, size with an iPad mini if you got it up. When you open it up, it's a big horizontal screen for watching long-horn videos. And it's normal iPhone shaped in a vertical screen when it's closed for watching short-form videos.
And like your skincare goals, there's barely a crease on this thing, even though it's foldable. It's a premium foldable screen that is seamless. They created a customized glass with the publicly traded company Corning Glass for this one. Although I would call it almost seamless. If you look very carefully, you'll see a little crease in there. It does not seem less, it seems less. And like a bike, there's a built-in kickstand. You can prop your phone open to watch your workout video and let it sit on the floor, or a tripod so you can take pictures of yourself like a wannabe influencer. So what is the iPhone duo? It's like a fini-pad mini and an iPhone 18 Pro in a book had a throttle baby. There is a whole bunch of screen ties. That's why we're naming this guy the iPhone. And here's a little taste of what it sounded like. You can bring two apps up side by side. So when you find a place to eat, you can get directions on the same screen at the same time. Like we said, it's a highly-produced video. And it smells like a profit puppy because the price, it's going to be $2,000. Or $58 a month if you go with the new Apple Lease. And it's a good thing they have to launch their lease because this is the most expensive iPhone ever.
Yeah. It's more expensive than a MacBook Pro laptop. It's the Hermes of iPhones, but Jack, were there any sacrifices in order to create this engineering marvel that is the foldable iPhone? Yes, there were. There's no face ID. Instead, there's a touch ID button on the side. And the camera doesn't zoom in as much as your usual camera and it's slower charging than your usual iPhone. You can order this on October 16th for October 23rd delivery, but if you do, you won't have any money left over to buy GTA6. So, you know, handle your fall spending sprays carefully. Add it to the Christmas list. But besties, there is one other funny issue, Jack, and I noticed here. What is that, Jack? Well, we've already had this for six years. Yeah. So, Jack, what's the takeaway for all our buddies unfolding the iPhone? Every company must prioritize like a chef with backburners and frontburners. Yeties, why a little story we found out about? Six years ago, then Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Asia. And according to Bloomberg, it changed his world view on phones on that single trip. It became obsessed with foldable phones, because he saw how people in Asia were using them.
Samsung, Pixel, Huawei, they all have had foldable phones for years, even though none of them are hits yet. Just 1.6% of the 2025 smartphone market was foldable. But, just like it took the iPhone to make smartphones mainstream, Tim Cook thought it would take the iPhone to make the foldable phone mainstream. So, Tim Cook launched Project V68, the code name for the foldable iPhone, and he launched it six years ago. And for years, the foldable iPhone was on the backburner at Apple while they waited for the core technology to get small enough to fit into a new foldable phone. And once that miniaturization was achieved, they moved the iPhone from the backburner to the frontburner. Ah, they prioritized it for the company. They switched engineers from the failing Apple Vision Pro headset to the new foldable iPhone Project V68. Tim Cook was there in the audience yesterday watching the new guy take credit for this new product. But bestie's, the iPhone is only here because Tim Cook led it's simmer on the backburner and then finalized it on the frontburner. For our second story, Christian Dior is the only fashion brand that's also a spa chain.
And it's from maternity leave moms with $3,000 to spend and three nights of post-partum pampering. Okay, we'll sign up. But besties, what is Jack's my favorite games of listicles? trivia categories, I'd call categories. Surprise profit puppies, what do we got Jack? The unexpected lucrative strategic side hustles a big business. Like for example, Costco owns a chicken farm, Toyota builds homes over in Japan, and 60% of Mars, the candy company is actually a pet food business. What about Christian Dior, the French fashion brand owned by the $300 billion luxury giant LVMH? We'll get this Christian Dior actually owns a chain of spas and they got 12 of them each in luxury travel destinations. Yoga by Dior? Real thing, summer long vinyasa classes you can do inside ancient Greek temples. Is the only luxury label bestie that is hiring Pilates instructors, sleep experts, it has a reverse aging board. Two of Christian Dior's spas are on luxury leisure trains, two of them are in Paris, two of them are on the Mediterranean coast, and two of them are in luxury Middle Eastern
cities. What do they do? Like 24 carrot mud rafts and cashmere massages over there Jack? I don't know, but getting a facial while rolling on a train through Malaysia's lush jungle. That's the sexiest surprise profit puppy we've ever heard of. It's not experiential retail, and it is ritual retail, and it is very possible. But yet, you know the luxury competition is going to copy this, so Christian Dior is going specific with a new offering. Hote motherhood. They are targeting millennial moms who just want a weekend away and are willing to pay. Christian Dior launched spa packages for new moms with $3,000 to spend in three months of maternity leave. And the specific offerings, these sound like the ultimate push presence right now. Now, Korea has postpartum spots, they're kind of famous for this. Recovery retreats where new moms can rest, heal and receive 24-7 newborn care for two to three weeks after childbirth. It's a great ritual in Korea. And kind of a subplot of beef season two on Netflix. Yes, but this what Christian Dior is doing is the West's take on Korean postpartum spots. Exactly, it's just shorter, more expensive, and extremely glamorous.
One program is for moms and their babies. Once their babies are three months old, at the five star Paris Chavall Blancotel. The Or will now give your infant a spa day, and crucially let mom have some time to herself during the postpartum period. Although it's unclear what kind of treatments the infant is going to get. Or needs. Or if you really want to splurge, yeah. A $27,000 four-day retreat in the south of France for new moms. A physical psychological and spiritual program for the price of a Tesla. Or New York City, preschool tuition. But Christian Dior has got a tidal wave of trends here because they know the wealthy are spending more time and money on travel in this economy. But everyone's spending on wellness despite this economy. And no one drops more cash than new parents in any economy. And if this existed when our wives had babies, Nick and I would be $3,000 for actually $6,000 jack, but there's possibly right off in this situation if we do it on the T-boy life tour. That's a stretch, Nick. I hope the IRS isn't listening right. We didn't time off the birth. So Jack, what's the takeaway for our bodies? Oh,
Christian Dior. There's a price tag for every life milestone. That is, the insight from Christian Dior is not that you should be launching a chain of spas in any industry, although we're pretty sure Gucci's going to launch a facial chain pretty soon. You see, the insight is specifically targeting a life moment. In this case, new motherhood. Because transitions, milestones, big moments. These life events are spending occasions too. During the calendar year, we tie moments to dates like back to school or Thanksgiving or a single to my, but your life is filled with these big moments too. Graduation, getting a new job, getting engaged, becoming a parent. So that all up that season, $30,000 Christian Dior, how to motherhood spot trip. Yeah, at the reminder of the power of milestones. And there's a price tag for every life point. Now a quick word from our sponsor. Support comes from wise, the smart way to manage the currencies you need around the world. Your life is global. Your money should be too. Some providers promise no fees on overseas transfers.
Don't be fooled. Extra costs often hide and bloat at exchange rates. Choose wise. You can send, spend and receive money in over 40 currencies. Count on the exchange rates that you'd usually see on Google. That's how millions save billions on hidden fees. Be smart, get wise, visit wise.com. Season C's apply. For our third and final story, open AI is 10,000 AI agents beat a human being to solve a 90-year-old math problem in just 88 hours. It's a real math breakthrough. But that line is the sneaky way that open AI did it. But besties, let's sprinkle on add-ups of track and then divide by six some context please, Jack. Let's pembe as this thing. You see the seven most famous math problems on earth are known as the Millennium Prizes. They're the kind of questions that good will hunting would work. Millennium Prizes, they also sound like the sequel to the next Marvel film. But they're from the Clay Mathematical Institute, which will award one million dollars to the person
or group who solves one of these epic seven problems. Only one has been solved so far back in 2003. True, and it's called the Millennium Prize by the way because this ultimate get-rich slow math prize it was established back in the year 2000. But on Tuesday, open AI said that they solved one of the math problems and they published the proof for all of us to review. Get these guys some celebrity pie, some 3.14 slices of that celebrity pie, Jack. What is celebrity pie? It's like celebration pie. Oh, okay. And it's a math thing, I guess you weren't in on this one, Jack. Well, I can say 3.14159. How far can you go? Never mind. We're done trying to out geek each other right now. But besties, here's the news. Sam Altman cannot make a positive announcement about AI without storm shrouds of negativity. This story is a real housewives of academia, starting five PhD math men and 10,000 AI agents. So, Jack, let's tell this wild story where do we begin? Well, the story begins with Diego Cordoba and Luis Martinez Oroa, Spanish mathematicians who made a breakthrough. Not a millennium math prize breakthrough, but Tristan Buckmaster did
read about their breakthrough and he had an idea. Tristan is an NYU professor who thought that he could build upon their work to solve one of the millennium math problems. And so, he got to work. He collabed with Levant ApogƩ to do it, a researcher who happens to work at Anthropic. And that's when rumors began to spread online that Tristan and this Anthropic guy were on the path to crack one of the millennium prize math questions. But Jack, lose lips, they sink ships. Because Sam Altman heard about those rumors and issued a code red over an open AI. Get this, starting September 1st, Sam Altman deployed a swarm of 10,000 AI agents using unreleased frontier model technology. And the mission that Sam assigned to those relentless intelligent AI agents beat Anthropic's guy in the race to solve that millennium math problem. And so, over the next 88 hours, 10,000 AI agents worked nonstop, burning 300 billion tokens worth $22.5 million at open AI's current price to pull it off. Now, in those three and a half days, a data center probably had a thousand
degrees doing all this compute. A glacier probably melted because opening I was so focused on solving this math problem. We repeat, they spent 22 and a half million bucks to compute and solve one math problem just to make sure Anthropic didn't first and we lost 43 polar bears while it was spoiler. Those 10,000 PhD level AI agents, they did crack the code or at least open AI announced that they did because it's still under review. Interesting that lifelong scientist close to a life changing discovery, he was devastated. He was this close to solving a millennium math problem. And then he didn't because open AI heard about it and put 10,000 AI agents on the task. But interestingly, yesterday he published his testimony that open AI wanted to collab with him, announced the discovery together because having a human involved would have been better PR, better for celebrating the AI win. But open AI had one alleged condition. The announcement cannot include the Anthropic guy that Tristan was collaborating with. And Professor Tristan wouldn't do it. An insisting that Anthropic be defeated open AI cut out all humans from the discovery. So
instead of celebrating this millennium math problem being solved, we are Monday morning quarterbacking the drama and the backstabbing. And yes, this deserves a Bravo show. And yes, we're hungry for some celebration pie. You called it celebrity pie earlier. That's called an inverse equation, Jack. So Jack, what's the takeaway for our buddy solving this epic math equation in AI? Is AI your greatest collaborator or your greatest competitor? Yeah, he's one more dirty detail we didn't tell you yet. Tristan was uploading his research into open AI to help him write out how he was solving the math problem. And then after open AI got to the answer first, he asked open AI whether his uploads and his prompts tipped off the model to copy his work and open AI's answer. Well, they pointed to the terms and conditions, unless you opt out, the models can train on your inputs. What you prompt them, which leads to an uncomfortable question. If you use AI and tell it all of your best work, are you giving up your best stuff to AI? And will that model deliver your best ideas,
your unique style to your competition? Open AI acknowledged that it's unlikely, but they couldn't roll out that their models benefited by using Tristan's prompts and research to eventually beat him in the race to this answer. But add it up besties. Open AI beating a human PhD to the millennium math prize. It raises this fundamental question. Is AI your greatest collaborator or your greatest competitor? Jack, could you whip up the takeaways for us for the new Friday? The iPhone Duo is here. I think it looks awesome. I'm just not sure that people need to open their phone or if they will. Ah, the iPhone. It was on the back burner for four years, but on the front burner for the last two. For our second story, Christian Deore Spaz launched Hope Motherhood, focused on rich new moms. So as part of it, it's one of the many life milestones with a price point. And our third and final story, open AI says it solved a 90 year math problem, but only after being tipped off by a human's work. Besties, what you tell AI can be used by the model to beat you in a race to mathematical fame or any fame. But besties, this pod's not over yet. Here's what else you need to
know today. First, another insane headline about AI that highlights just the insanity of zero regulation right now. And then throughout the researcher confessed on X that AI could destroy all of humanity in 10 years, like kill us. He actually says that the humanity ending catastrophe is a greater than 10% chance within that next 10 years. We regulate mattresses. We regulate lawn mowers. We regulate pool floaties at the federal level, but we don't regulate something that could eliminate the entire human race. Then that 90% chance. Yeah. And second, live golf has declared bankruptcy this week. The disruptor of the golf is for for. They're out. It's out of here. We covered the live bankruptcy months ago. When reporting said that Saudi Arabia would stop funding the cash burning challenge. But the legacy of this failed golf league, PGA raised their payouts. Yeah, hopefully it's improved golf for the long term, despite the chaos and division it caused in the short term. And finally, Lululemon's founder is getting divorced and did not have a prenup. Now, some are framing this as the man is
losing half of his fortune. But we would say he already shared his fortune with his wife since they were married. Chip Wilson and his wife are worth six and a half billion bucks. And a lot of it is still Lululemon stock and they're getting divorced. So it'll be split 50 50, which means one of the biggest shareholders of Lululemon will soon be the founder's wife. Now time for the best fact yet. This one sent in by Mitch from lovely Fort Worth, Texas, and it's from a story we did last week last week. We covered the rise of Vanderbilt University, the new profit puppy on campus. Vanderbilt's actually named after and founded by the railroad baron Cornelius Vanderbilt. And when Cornelius died in 1877, he was worth $100 million. Okay, but get this story. At that time, his $100 million was more cash than the entire US Treasury had. And then his son doubled the wealth to $200 million, which as a share of the US economy would be over $200 billion today. Okay, but then his grandkids took over and they got Fifth Avenue Magins, a 250 room summer cottage called the Bill More Race Horses. Yet nobody built another business in the family. So just generations and
generations of Nepo is what we're trying to say. We're talking by 1973, Jack, 120 Vanderbilt descendants gathered at Vanderbilt University for a family reunion. But the number of millionaires in the room was zero. The biggest fortune in American history was gone in under 100 years. And the kicker, the one Vanderbilt asset still standing is the university. The best investment they ever made was the one they gave away. Although as of her monitor, I will say, Shelburne Farms is incredible. That's still here too. And that also comes from Vanderbilt money. They do have a really nice Vanderbilt train set should point that out. Yeah, he's, you look fantastic over there, Jack. You are glow and considering we're on a flight at like 4 AM today. Honestly, flying from Austin to the coast, it's like a red eye. It's like a red eye. But like the LA Rams, we just pretended the time zones didn't exist. We ignored jet lag altogether. Jet lag, mind over matter. Yeah, he's grabbed your tickets to our San Francisco show. It's in just under two weeks. We got a link in the episode description and T-boy pod dot com. Nick and I, we'll see you tomorrow. Hand, wait.
And before we go, a happy birthday to Daniel Verona. The soccer obsessed dog dad with two pitties. Happy birthday to Andy Schussler from Milton, Wisconsin. Let's newest right now with a lufa in his hand. Yeah, you look great. And there I am. And Charlie North Carolina is celebrating the full birthday with a half marathon. Happy birthday to Emma Gardner from New York City to New Hampshire to Louisville. The Panther and that hurt is turning 27 down in Dallas with a y'all. Happy birthday to Aspen Fry. Turned at six years old in Orange, California. And John the Campos, the last year of his 30s in California, celebrate it wisely. Happy birthday to a listen new bow. Hopefully celebrating with another pizza. And Raffa Elmaris from Deloose, Georgia is enjoying a second birthday on a Disney cruise with his parents. And happy birthday to Marlene Thomas from Deloose, Georgia. She hopes this is her last birthday without a new episode of the best idea yet. The more updates coming soon and Kato Gadobu's crushing it in Maryland as a single mom right now. And thank you to Edward Mollens for two corrections. First, he pointed out the Villanova is Augustinian, not Jesuit. Similar,
but different. And Jack said Jesuit because his brother went to two Jesuits schools. My bad, I don't know. And to anyone else, celebrate something today, make it a T-Bly. Celebrate the wins. This is Jack. Nick on stock at low 11. We both on stock of Apple. Send spend and receive money in over 40 currencies. Count on the exchange rates that you'd usually see on Google. That's how millions save billions on hidden fees. Be smart, get wise, visit wise.com.
