the hundred ohchets podcast is back with Wayne Crobat Wayne is here in New York
The back pages is, they're Johnny's crazy for the first time since 1999, Ron Artest, Mike
Jarvis, those fellas, they're sweet 16-bound.
Thanks to a former teammate of Wayne Crabette, James Darling, linebacker.
I think it was 2001 and 2002.
His son, Dylan Darling, saved the day.
Wayne, first of all, how are you?
Second of all, did you get flashbacks from 25 years ago?
You know what, I didn't even know, I saw the name.
I didn't even know until I saw the picture of James.
I found out yesterday.
Yeah, no, and you said, you know, you asked me, do you know James Darling?
You played, and I was like, yeah, of course I know him.
Yeah, it's solid, dude.
And it's crazy because when I think about former players and you guys, I love playing with,
it just, you know, it's not a name you hear a lot, but yeah, add them to the list, man.
I love playing with that guy.
And congrats to him and his son and hopefully, you know, a couple more games, you know, like
at the, you know, hoist that little, you know, cut the nets down.
I guess you could say, but yeah, awesome guy, congrats to his son.
Yeah.
He played two years with you guys, Herms, first two years, 2001, 2002.
So I guess Herm brought him over.
And he's a Northwest guy, because I think that's where Dylan came from, Washington State
or somewhere up there, someone will correct me if they're a big Johnny's fan.
I've always been a St. John's fan, but I'm definitely a more casual fan.
When I was a kid, I was diehard, not anymore.
Yeah, but that was tremendous.
It was a physical game.
It was ugly, but I love the physical basketball a lot more.
Yeah.
Listen, back then, the big East was like nothing else, kind of like the ACC is now, but you
mean, you know, St. John's Georgetown, going over, I mean, those were the battles.
St. John's are a Georgetown, you know, Chris Mullin, Mark Jackson, those guys, wasn't
that back, back when the St. John's guys, you didn't watch him back then?
What's that?
St. John's basketball.
I'm older than you.
Oh, the Mullin?
No, no, no, Mullin Jackson.
That was, yeah, dude, listen, I'm an old guy with the gray hair, but the first, the first
team that I remember are the 90s.
All right.
So everybody knows I'm 10 years older.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I discovered you when I was in middle school.
But I remember the playing the four corners, David Winggate, Patrick Gale, you just run
at the clock.
That's how Nova got it done, right?
That's how Nova got the upset done.
Hey, if anybody remembers, we used to go see the games at the Brendan Burn Arena,
Melans.
Mm-hmm.
That's, that's what the big East stuff was, was played.
Yeah.
Well, it's so congrats to him and I will see you happen to the next round.
Yeah.
Later on, we're going to answer the first genesis, well, the reincarnation.
We used to do this a couple of years ago, but the Wayne Crabbit, Wayne Crabbit mail back.
You could send an email to ask a question any time at underdoggettspodcast at gmail.com.
This one today, we have a few questions.
It's a, it's a soft launch because we put it out in social media.
But email underdoggettspodcast at gmail.com anytime, any day to ask a question and
it could show up on a future podcast and we can answer your question.
Yeah, we'll get to it.
Obviously, just in a couple of minutes.
We're going to do a depth chart and a free agency.
It's not going to be a long podcast.
But yeah, just want to get to this stuff.
There he is.
There he is.
I, yeah.
No, no player, man.
Yeah, yeah, for those, for those just listening, I'm scrolling my Twitter right now
because we're going to bring up a depth chart graphic,
and James Darling, James Darling posted popped up.
Yeah, and we'll then roll a little into the draft because the two, two questions
I want to talk about are about the draft.
So right now, so far, just put up the depth chart since we talked.
We'll bring some good vets in, some good vets back.
I've heard good and bad things about the geno smith signing.
Obviously, I said, I liked it.
I said, you know, we didn't have to give much form.
But we thought we were going to know the path we said of the whole,
with the Giants did, with Russell and, you know, Winston and then drafting Darl.
But Carson Wentz, and then I'll go back to Viking.
So who's next on the list?
Who signed next to geno right now to compete for the quarterback battle?
There's a lot of names out there, but there's nothing substantive.
I mean, Tyra Taylor, I think is the prevailing name right now.
And the theory, the working theory is this.
The jets are no rush.
If they couldn't get their guy, Wentz, if they truly wanted him or someone else,
why sign a guy before the draft when you know a tie ride,
it'll still be there after the draft.
If you go into the draft without a clear cook, QB2,
sometimes might think you're still in play for Simpson, you know?
Yeah, for everybody listening, I didn't even think that.
Like, yeah, at this point, it's not there.
If you didn't get it ready, it's not there.
Maybe it's a draft day move or whatever.
Like we talked about, we got tons of draft capital.
Not saying we can pretty much get anybody, but all we have,
we can make them move if we need to.
Yeah, and right now the QB room, obviously,
the graphic is up the depth chart.
I can go to the other depth chart too, if these names are too small.
Let me know.
But quarterback, Geno Smith, Brady Cook, Bailey Zappy,
obviously a second guy's needed.
No question.
Yeah, you know, that's a tough one.
You know, yeah, I got such a good analogy,
but give it to me.
It's kind of like, I love Geno, right?
I announced his pick.
You were.
Yes, they was cooking, get much of a chance.
He's an unknown.
And Zappy just, you know, hasn't played one.
So it's the kind of thing when you start out on like Madden
or this and that, you know, you start out with a certain amount of picks.
But they're all a certain, like, grade or level.
And then my son's asked me, can I have 20 bucks by pack?
Can I have 10 bucks by pack?
And in the packs, you get the guy with the higher grades.
Ultimate team.
Yes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And he'll move up every time you get a better pack.
This kind of is like a starter pack.
Geno, I like, I like a lot.
If he plays, I have no problem with that.
I always state a fan.
But as far as the whole quarterback room with the second and third,
it's just, it's just tough right now.
We definitely need to buy a pack, ultimate pack.
Because this is going to look like different.
Going into a trick to train the camp right now.
Do I put my money on them drafting Simpson right now?
No, probably not.
Yeah.
But that doesn't mean they might not take a shot on an allar
or a drollar for Penn State or Beck or Nuss Meyer or one of those kids.
I think they will draft a QB.
It just will be, you know, day two, day three, most likely.
Yeah, yeah, I'm just like, I'm looking at the whole roster here.
You know, what do you like?
What do you like?
What catches your eye?
There's not a lot of 99s in that.
No, no, never see a room need to know this choice.
Does it choice you?
Barely, maybe a handful of year.
I'm looking at who are highest rated on Madden.
And people complain about it because they know who
the Madden guys are with the clipboard at games and stuff like that.
And you need that speed too.
You need that 95 speed.
They don't really have that.
No, I'm just looking.
You look at, you know, you look at the tackles,
you look at Odyssey, Garrett, and recent those guys.
The line is solid, man.
I mean, it's still the one wild card, I would say is this.
Last year, they had an advantage with the Russian quarterback.
Yeah.
You know, you could let the edge guys go and stay naked and be unblocked.
They won't have that this year,
but I still think they're quality.
I still think they'll be more than fine.
For Sean O'Membu, Tipman, three out of five are just plus guys.
Yeah, but so everybody sees any names.
These are going to change a good amount going in the camp.
And then the final roster, it's not going to say, you know,
at least 30, 40% of this might change,
just, you know, as it comes to a game 1 through the preseason.
Mika, I thought he was a great pick-up.
Yes.
We talked about him that, you know,
to style leadership, Pro Bowl guy.
We talked about Mara Davis.
He's the key.
He's the guy who's not going to take nothing in the long room.
He is Brian Cox coming back.
He's that guy that you just don't want to miss me.
You don't want to be called that by,
but he knows how to handle the young guys,
the old guys, keep everybody under toes.
He's going to be the captain of the defense.
That's the guy coming back while love.
You're playing days.
You in the slot.
You were closer to the trenches than most receivers.
How much harder was it when the defense had a legit leader on the field?
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, we had him out there.
You know, Marvin Moe, you had Cox out there,
you know, Sean Ellis.
You know, he was a bet.
Johnny Abraham, you know,
and even the guys that you don't even know the names,
the Chief Liles.
I mean, the Rick Liles.
Yeah, that's right.
Guys, I mean, those are the guys, the Anthony Pleasants.
These are guys who, you know,
were just dogs down there.
And no one really paid attention to him,
but our linebackers were making plays
because they were in their trenches.
But that's just a defensive side.
But, you know, it's you and you got a guy in the back heel in in Minka.
And now it's just a matter of getting,
you know, the core back in the other positions to be those guys.
Yeah.
And if you look at it at the screen,
it's we put the base in three, four
because everything Glenn is doing is definitely three, four oriented
where it's more react attack instead of just
flying downhill with your hair on fire.
He got to Von Dre sweat 360.
They are so big on the inside.
Sweat is 360.
Phillips is 315.
Onyamada is 305.
Briggs is 312 or something.
So he went big and physical and violent.
Even with DeMario, he feels like a madman.
So I think Glenn said, forget this.
We're not going to get run over every game anymore.
We're going to change that and flip that script.
I think I talked to you about this.
This kid we got from the bear is the corner.
Yes, nationals are right.
I think I got to be honest.
Listen, I'm a short saint.
He could be a starter very easily.
You know what?
The seam is the back up there.
I think he'll be the starter.
I'm not sure how that pans out,
but I saw some film on him.
And statistically,
that kid is going to be another guy that we say,
wow, when did we get him?
And just another guy like Sweat and Phillips
and these guys who have panned out.
I think he could be when we look back later and say,
wow, that was a real good pick up.
And it wasn't like something that cost us a lot of money.
Agreed.
And you got Brandon Stevens coming back for a second year,
who was solid last year.
AZ Thomas, second year in the league.
He showed glimpses, but he was hurt a lot.
So I think Wright is going to be battling those two.
Two of those three are going to start on the outside,
because they're all tall outside boundary guys.
And you got Brownlee, who's the slack guy?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
So I said, we're getting short of there,
but I said, we're getting that loaded right now there.
As far as the other side of the bowl,
honestly, quarterback,
what we're going into the drafting is,
as like you said, what we're at.
As far as the picks is reached,
still are pick it too.
I think so.
All right, here's another question.
I'd be stunned.
I'd be stunned.
It would really shock me.
If Glenn doesn't go that way.
I'm just seeing if we want to move back.
I'm not saying, like, even like,
people are enamored with Jeremiah Love,
no, they're running back.
Yes.
I'm not saying that someone would take me too,
but he's definitely the number one off the board.
It is a good tackle.
It's just different guys
that if we want to move back a little,
how valuable is the number two pick?
That was my question.
I think it's not as valuable as normal.
Okay.
Because it was said about this class,
going into the combine.
It's kind of deep.
It's not a great draft class overall.
It's definitely not a great quarterback class.
Even top 10, it's not that deep.
And I kind of agree with that.
I don't think it is.
I think Reese is a unicorn
that is deserving of a top five pick.
Other guys like Bailey and
I just don't see it as much.
So sunny styles would be the name.
He's the off-ball linebacker.
He'd be a Mike in the NFL or or will off the ball.
He would be the name, I guess,
in terms of trade down and grab a guy.
Okay.
No, I just remembered years where it was like
one two five was like, you do a lot to get in there.
Yeah, the word is the word around
a quarterback.
You know what I mean?
It's the word around right now is saying
nobody wants to trade up.
That's the word right now.
Okay, we'll see what we have then.
All right, so that's a death chart.
That's free agency.
Yeah, it was just going to be a quick thing.
We just started the mailback thing.
We basically just put the mailback thing up
half an hour ago.
Jetsunderdog podcast at gmail.com.
Ask Wayne anything.
Can't guarantee it'll be answered,
but we're going to do our best each time.
First question.
All right, Wayne Ellis.
Yes, on ex-formally Twitter.
Hi, Wayne, do you think the Jets
should double dip at receiver in the draft?
And which later round prospects
stand out to you at the position?
Yeah, we talked about that.
I don't think, I think it would be a matter of pitch.
Sure, I think we can.
I think there's a lot of talent.
I think it's pretty deep at receiver.
And with the picks we have later,
it's just, I don't think they'll be a crazy rush.
To have to do this.
It's the kind of thing where
middle of the pack,
I think once one or two start going,
then there might be a run on them.
But we saw some pretty interesting names.
Obviously, Tyson and Tate from a house
they, you know, and Cooper from Indiana.
They could, you know,
let me tell you what.
But later on, you had mentioned the
Benard-Kita from Alabama.
You had actually mentioned the K from the small school.
Tirst.
All 10.
Tirst.
Yep.
Yeah.
Brazil,
65 to 100.
Junior, so he's young.
Serrani we're talking about.
Yeah, let us serrat the other K from Indiana.
6 to 13.
I mean, all these guys have signs, you know,
it's deep, man.
It's deep every year receiver.
Yeah, and there's, there's, you know,
when you go from anywhere from 65 to 100 to,
you know, you see a lot of good slot guys too.
So yeah, I don't see any reason not.
We do have a pretty good,
you know, reserve line on the offense line.
You know, you get all these other run back.
We're receivers.
You can't have enough young talent coming in.
Obviously, we got Garrett,
one A Mitchell Schultz and stuff.
It's just after that, you know,
we do need another, you know, at least a two.
I mean, two other options after that,
which brings us to the second question
in the draft about the tight end.
And by the way, when we get to the receiver film,
I'm going to show you that Jordan Tyson,
who might be the most talented guy in the draft,
this injury questions about him, big time injury question.
He reminds me of your former teammate, Levernius.
The way he looks on the field.
Yeah, dude, I'll show you.
When we do the film on the receivers maybe next week,
he's the way he just the way he moves and the way his body is.
He reminds me Levernius.
But we'll check that out soon.
I'll be the judge of that.
Okay.
The Don, thanks for the question on Twitter X.
Assuming Reece goes at number two,
would you draft Ken Yann Sedeek,
the top tight end in the class right now?
If he fell to 16,
I'd argue he's as good or better than some of the receivers
that may be there at 16.
I see nothing wrong with grabbing a game-changing tight end.
Keep in mind Sedeek is more...
How great is his inline blocking?
I'm not sure.
So he's more of a receiver type tight end.
Okay.
Yeah, the Don and Metz are one.
Yeah.
Who's that, Patino?
The Don.
So yeah, the Don.
I looked right away at Sedeek.
Obviously, his number is the combine.
Is what made him rise to one.
If you look at all the different mock drives,
a lot of things are interchangeable between receivers.
On some list,
guys in top five with Kuiper or whoever else,
maybe one or two the same.
But on everybody's list,
it seems Sedeek is number one for tight end.
I looked at his stats.
I know I'm not mean much because he's a tight end,
but you know, he's only at two catches, I think.
Over 25, 26 yards.
He's the longest for the year's 30 yards.
I'm not saying you want a guy that can go, you know, 60, 70 yards, but
yeah, for an offense like that,
but then you go and look at the highlight,
Ketchie had where people in Penn State were,
you know, he hurtles a guy to 10,
like it was nothing.
It went in the end zone.
So you see the talent, the athleticity, you know,
I don't know what the blocking, but I think
16 is too high for a tight end.
In any year, unless it's just one that's like a game changer,
like Brock was coming in and pits in those guys.
But yeah, he is going to be a good pick.
And if he fell further in the first,
he's the kind of guy.
If he's still there, you might want to trade back into the first to get.
So a good question to Don,
but yeah, there's nothing wrong with grabbing him.
As he turned it,
it all turned up to getting a receiver.
If he's there, yeah, he could, he could step right in.
Beautiful, beautiful.
Yeah, 16 will be interesting.
We shall see.
Follow us.
That's what we're made.
That's what's back.
That's, you know, we want to get our one year race
because we think he's obviously top three guy.
But as far as he goes right in,
we're talking about, you know,
the safety you're talking about another receiver.
Just having all those picks to move around.
We get into getting three of those guys.
You know what I mean?
It's not like we got to pick one,
we get two, we get three of those guys.
And you said, and you mentioned trade down, Wayne?
I think 16,
it much more of a chance to trade down than two.
Yeah, well, no, you can get someone at 25.
That's what it was 60.
They have to think about this way.
How we did in the, you know,
sauce, carrot, all of a sudden, like,
oh, shit, your main Johnson's available.
I know he's gone.
We move right back into the first.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
To get, or do you mean we move the guy?
It's just anything to happen with all those picks.
But obviously, two, you know,
you don't move, you take a race.
But good questions.
But yeah, we need receivers.
We need to tie them.
So they're definitely in the cards for this cup coming draft.
