They allegedly used the BMW to crash into another car, which then broke one of the building's windows, but it didn't end there. Please say they then stole a 2023 Dodge charger from inside the showroom and finally drove off in that vehicle. Police are still looking for the person or persons responsible. The long delayed closure of Rikers Island is apparently being delayed again. There are a host of reasons. Councilmember Sandy Nurse says Rikers will not close on time. The COVID delayed construction of the new burrow based jails and she blames the Adams administration. They didn't open the supportive housing for formerly incarcerated people. They did not open the wing at Bellevue for people with serious mental illness. They weren't putting resources into addressing people with substance use disorder.

3:05Nurse is creating legislation to extend the deadline and a big priority is making sure detainees don't die due to lack of medical care. After a crash involving an NYPD vehicle, this happened around eight o'clock this morning near West 124th Street in Frederick Douglass Boulevard. A new warning today on Long Island, beware of scams. A woman is out hundreds of thousands of dollars after she got a strange phone call. In this case, the victim was scammed out of nearly one million dollars. Authorities say in Hicksville, the 70 year old woman received a call saying she was involved in a crime in India and needed to pay up to get out of the situation.

4:08After the woman paid, she received a second request for $300,000 in gold coins. That's when the victim called the police. And soon, a 32 year old woman from Queens was arrested for the crime. They've launched new eGates at the United Airlines Security Checkpoint in Terminal C. The attack happened right after a birthday party for Gonzalez' estranged wife at a West Hamstead restaurant, prosecutors say the wife's mother Anna Espinoza was walking with her husband back to their vehicle and Gonzalez stabbed them both killing the woman. All this happened in front of the defendant's own two-year-old son. After today's guilty plea, Gonzalez is expected to be sentenced at 25 years to life in prison. The fight to save the AMC theater in Kipps Bay is intensifying. A coalition of neighborhood groups have sent a letter to NYU Langone, asking the health system to preserve the theater, as well as the nearby businesses. Assemblymember Keith Powers represents the area. That retail complex also included a bookstore and a pharmacy and a hardware store. This was the hub of the Kipps Bay community. And he has this message for NYU Langone. Slow down on the evictions of the businesses that are there, come talk to us and the community about what your plans are, and let's figure something out together.
