NFL Owners Vote on Draft Pick Trading Rule Change

NFL owners from all 32 teams will meet in Phoenix at the end of March to vote on rule changes.

The big one comes from the Cleveland Browns who want to let teams trade draft picks up

to five years ahead. Right now, trades only go out three years.

This could spark even more action on the trade market. The league has seen 18 trades in

just eight days since March 11th. The Browns need 24 yesboats to pass it and the Los Angeles

Rams are already on board. Rams president Kevin Demoff called it a smart move that would

boost interest through more trades and team building options. The Rams trade picks all

the time so their support might sway others. If approved, trades could extend to the 2030

draft. Meanwhile, the Browns pushed successfully last year to move the trade deadline to the

first Tuesday after week nine. Another proposal from Pittsburgh aims to make this year's free

agent negotiation rules permanent. It would allow one video or phone call with up to five

players during the two day window plus travel arrangements right away if a deal is done.

The owner's meeting runs for March 29th through April 1st. The Rams pulled their own idea

about a wild two point conversion play. Expect more proposals from the competition committee
