Mike and I were just talking about the big kickoff games this weekend. I don't think there's a bigger one than LSU Clemson for various reasons. Obviously, right? It's Lane Kiffin's debut. Coach Dabbo, Swinney's got to get back in the mix here. And when I say that, guys, you know, they're not ranked. So, you know, you talk about a fall from grace and I don't think that Clemson's bad, but they haven't played up to their standard. They've gotten poor quarterback play over these last couple of years, Mike. So you were just telling me, you know, the idea that look, if they lose the season's not over, but I will tell you, people will start to look at this program with dabbo a little bit different. Right. And a lot of folks look, folks have been ready and circling the wagons. The media doesn't like it because he's a faith based coach. So they've been, volunteers are circling over the other death Valley. This one's in LSU's death Valley. But he says this week, in my mind, he was asked about the starters and this team for this week against LSU, quote, in my mind, we still don't have any starters. Now we're going to run some guys out there Saturday and then we'll start to make some decisions because we'll have some performance. Not exactly
the kind of confidence as a viewer Clemson fan you want to hear from your coach keeping it real. Was it Vizina is the new quarterback and he's they didn't really find anybody that was an upgrade over him in the portal and club Nick, you know, he was solid, rarely spectacular, you know, for the club. We looked it up. The buyout for dabbo, it's down from 60 to 57 million. I guess I presume Jimmy Sexton was his guy like all the other coaches. The buyout for dabbo is $57 million every year. Remember now until it's over in 2031. He was one of the first, I mean, he signed that deal. What six years ago, I think it was after the first or second national championship, Mike, whenever that was, it's been some time now, but that's crazy. Right. That's he's locked in there. Not cool. Even if he has another bad season, I don't think they're going to spend the money to get him out of there. And then while we're talking college, because I was then I got into, let's see what Mike Norvelle's buyout. Is it Florida state? Ironically, Carl, after one of our worst years in recent history, are the royal are the boosters have kicked in more money for Florida state last year than they have the last five. What is that for? A buyout? It's not transferring into
player getting signed in the transfer portal. People just want to have this money to get rid of the the athletic director and the head coach and then fell swoop. Yeah, they didn't allow the spending that you would think on players because they wanted to make sure that money was there, right? Yeah. Apparently they're 28th of the portal. So the money's not directly getting to some of these guys. You think what either way, the ACC's only shining hope right now is either Brent Keywood tech. You could argue Virginia, maybe a fine outlier, but Miami Miami is the thing right now because Christopher balls built the machine. All right guys culture. It's crazy. We got plenty more college football, but it's front and center. We're going to talk about some of these big games coming up as we lead into what it's going to be. I think an incredible weekend. Our buddy Connor Riley from dog nations going to stop by as well. Kirby talking about the side outside yesterday. And look, it's going to be, but he's getting his guys ready for it. And I think there's something to this. If you're in that indoor facility, all camp, you're not helping yourself. And Kirby knows that. So we'll get into that with Connor Riley. As we talk about what else is going on, plenty more on the Falcons guys as we continue this conversation. Now it is
count down to the Steelers. Seriously, we can forget about the free season stuff. The roster is what it is. What is this going to look like? And now we can seriously start counting down to the start of the season. But Mike, one thing we have to address and Aaron Turner is a very good agent. He's John, I think, Amiga's agent, but he's wrong about this because if he was right, he'd still be here. It was a team option that they chose not to pick up. And then it took forever for him to find traction. Now I think he actually ended up in a really good spot. But to say this was a little bit over the top. JK got shipped to Atlanta. Okay. And there's a lot of talk about John and Camiga and his winning impact in the players. He was their best player from the moment he showed up in terms of winning impact. Now I will say this, you could argue CJ McCollum has something to do in those two wins against the next, but Camiga did give you a spark. I mean, I don't deny that, but his agent's nuts because you know, you're not there without Jalen Johnson's
amazing season, but Camiga didn't get into the flow of the offense and the losses. And then again, that's why they barked at the 24.3 option. Yes. And look, nobody played great in the next series. We know that we stole a couple, but nobody played great. But if you look at the totality of the season, you're right. I mean, nah, most improved player, right? I mean, you talk about Jalen, all star. I know. I'm not small enough for team Canada right now. Oh, I know him and and and do it. They're both playing well. But I just think like that, that's a, that's an overstatement right there. He did come in and help us. Mike's right, but he wasn't what you thought. That's why he's not here. And so this time, the five two assists in 22 minutes. That was his average. Again, it was the late star. I remember we took him a couple of weeks. He wasn't on the court. No, but he did help you in the two wins against the next. But he also is a guy is a reason, it was a liability. It was a reason the Warriors and Steve Kerb moved on from him. He doesn't get in the flow on the half court. He can play above the rim. He can give him. He can go here, oh, ball. Yeah, but he doesn't play in the team constant. No doubt. All right. 4047, 260929. And no, I won't
let it go. Ha ha. Well, you didn't, you were Luke warm on him from the job. I was. I look, I just sometimes it just when you hear things around the league and I bring that to you guys, some of you guys just feel like, ah, I'm full of crap. I'm not pulling out of my butt. I'm talking to folks who know and when it plays out this way and you go, oh, understand what I mean, keep him. This is why I was telling you either way, he was not the best player. Mm. But I do think to Mike's point, the fact that Luke Dort and not playing the way they are, ah, is it for it's for team Canada. I believe it is. Right. It gives me Mike. Remember because when we made the the Lou Dort trade, trade, um, a lot of people say, where's the offense going to come from? Right? We're defensive. We got to be able to score in the half court. This task is score. They're certainly in an international competition, a little bit different than the NBA. But yeah, I mean, could you get us to the playoffs with John, like, we, we need some offense. Okay. We, we certainly one thing about Caminga, he did give you some stuff above the rim, but the asking price, I thought it was too much and everything we just discussed. But do you have enough with Jalen Johnson, uh, CJ McCollum on a sort of
a gap year is it worth for him? And, and how much of their, and by the way, Snyder going to play the rookies in the regular season. I mean, seriously, we got some guys. We got some athletes. Snyder going to be the time honored hawks tradition of the, of the rookies being stuck on the bench from Mike Woodson to take your coach. Everybody, everybody who's coached the hawks, it says, I've been in Atlanta. Feels that way, right? With the exception, maybe of, uh, who was it, uh, the, uh, the old Florida coach? Anyway, they don't play the young guys. So I hope we're going to play him because I want to see these guys this year. Yeah. Are you talking about the college coach? What's his name? Yeah, because he went to UNLV. He was, he was at a bunch of places. He's actually really good. But, um, I can't think of his name either. Mike. It, it, it escapes me. I got the internet. I'll get it. But, uh, but you're right. That's kind of been the philosophy. The thing that, you know, the hawks are preaching is this development thing, right? I mean, we're young. We're going to continue to develop. Guys will get better. We've seen that happen with Dyson. We saw it happen with Nah. And that's kind of what they're screaming. It was Lon Krueger. Lon Krueger. I could do a good Lon Krueger impression. Of course, he got fired. But you
need to put the ball in the basket. But anyway, that, that was a dude that would play the young guys. Yeah. But if you go back, he came from college, too. But you go back over there's Bud Wooden play the star. I wouldn't play the young guys. No. I mean, let's be honest, guys. I mean, Lenny wouldn't play the young guys. I got in his superstars. This is the way it was over there. Woodson Woodson. No, he would not play the young guys. Nope. You're absolutely right. Hey, man. Uh, it's Duke's and Bell. You can find us on social media. He is a T L bell nine to nine. I'm at put him up. See, dukes and follow the radio show at Duke's and bell nine to nine. And of course, you can follow this radio station at nine to nine. The game. Stay up on everything that's going on in the world of sports coming up by the way in the three o'clock hour. There are more moves around the NFL and everybody's already all in on these guys. Tom mother Rams. We got to dive into this because I remember a few years ago, I think it may have been the Eagles. And this is before they got Jalen Hertz and all the stuff they have now. But at one point, they built a super team and everybody was going crazy about the moves they made and they didn't do anything. So we'll get into that. Talk more about the Falcons as well. And Alex and Thopolis, Mike, if you missed our interview
with him yesterday, we want to replay it for you around three 20 today. And we just thought it was very insightful because I think the Kim question you asked him specifically about, you know, what's the deal? And I followed up was like, okay, it's so it's not money because we kept saying, obviously, they just don't want to take it in the shorts. And Alex's point was, guys, the money spent. We're looking at these other things and how he fits into our team. So for anybody that's been with us, they're not, they're not moving on from Kim. They're he will be here into the end of this season. Right. And then we'll see what they do at those positions, Mike, because I do think there'll be some adjustments in the off season. Look, the roster is starting to come into shape. I know that I've killed Murphy over the years. I just don't think over the course of his career. He's lived up to the trade. And I think most every bravest family would rather have controversy. There's a D.H. or a catcher here. But he is batting just a tick under 800 for his OPS for the month of August. And he's starting to knock in some runs slowly, but surely. Yeah. And he's contributing. He is contributing. So in last night, look, just to kind of put a cap on
the braves real quick. He was a ugly game. I mean, seven, three, you mentioned it in elder. We talked a little bit about this on our pre show. You know, five earned runs on eight hits, two home runs, walked three, struck out three. It was five and a third, but that's not the kind of performance that's going to set you up for success. And I think, you know, this is what we've said. It's been up and down now. It's been more good than bad with Bryce elder. No doubt about that this season. But yesterday was just kind of a reminder. Okay. That's game three guys. Think about this. That's game three in the series. How are you feeling? Because that's what it's going to look like. I think it's going to be a sale mally. And then you go with elder, right? And Alex also said, you'll hear the full interview at three 20. We're going to try to go with the best guy. Well, we got 30 days to figure that out. Well, right now is, I think everybody says right now, listening is going to be, you know, sale and then mally and Bryce elder, I think to your point earlier, it was just one of those games that you know, elder got to keep, it's got to keep the ball in the ball park and you know, you get into the six inning and you're just like, Oh boy. And then the
bullpen last night was not great. But they've been so good. They should have an off night for the pen. Yeah. It really was. All right, man. We got plenty more to dive into here on a Tuesday. Also, as we talk about the Falcons, there are some other roster of situations that we're talking about. And I know everybody's wondering about these quarterbacks. I'm going to give you a what if scenario with these four quarterbacks that we have coming up here on the show. All right. Also want to tell you footballs here. Yeah, man. The roster was I was talking to our boss, my country today. And I said, you know, there is a passion for this team. We have no idea what's going to happen up in Pittsburgh. But I got to be honest. And I can't remember more fan focus on the roster moves and the cuts that we saw in the
last 48 hours with the Falcons. I mean, guys banging the drum for Zach Harrison like he was Reggie White, you know, or Vita Vey or somebody. But anyway, but no, there people are passionate about it. We'll get into it because there are still some curious moves and maybe more to be made. And are we really going to carry four quarterbacks to your point all season long? Stay there. It's Duke's and Bill on sports radio 92 9 the game.
