Boomer and Pinder are joined by TSN’s Jamie McLennan to break down a busy slate of storylines across the NHL. The guys start with the red-hot Buffalo Sabres and debate what the real expectations should be for a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in years but suddenly looks like a threat. The conversation then shifts to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have caught fire under Rick Bowness, and whether they can actually push for a playoff spot. From there, they look at the Edmonton Oilers and how they’ll manage without Leon Draisaitl for the rest of the regular season, before diving into the surprising season from the Pittsburgh Penguins and the return of Sidney Crosby. The segment wraps up with a look at the Ottawa Senators and their chances of making a playoff push.

To the Instacart hotline, we go and say, good day
to Jamie Noodles, McClellan. Hello, Noodles.
How you doing? What's going on today?
Well, we're not sure where our buddy is.
Just missing? Yeah. What happens? I mean,
but it doesn't, though. That's the thing.
He'll be like, I'm not going today.
Or like, we sneak attack them for his 50th with some of his
drinking buddies and 11.58 pm. He's like, find a new co-host.
We always get the war now. I won't signal.
The bat light goes out and it's like, okay, red sea,
they're going to be hung over or not around tomorrow.
But just dark? Dark. Yeah.
I'd be fishing. We've put out the signal, though.
He's fasting and passed out from not eating perfume.
He fasted on Monday. He ate yesterday,
but he had a little tickle yesterday.
He was, you know, the whole fasting thing.
He comes in and he cooked the goose in the weekend.
Two nights in a row for now. He got into it and then wasn't eating
and then was feeling like he was getting sick or something.
That he was housing beef jerky, the incredible rate, Harry.
He had a lot of beef jerky. Yeah.
It's beef jerky. He'll do it.
Maybe he's hairy done on the toilet.
You never know.
David could be he used to be calling in.
That's that's entertaining.
Well, you can't face time in on that.
That's no. Well, be careful.
Yeah.
Probably just as well. He doesn't.
If he were here, he'd want to talk.
He's put his buffalo sabers.
Oh, so fun.
Shut out Vegas last night in Las Vegas.
And with that are, I mean, it's not just a nice sort story anymore.
This is you talking about one of the top teams in the National Hockey League.
It's been an amazing run since they were here.
They were here.
December 9 or something.
Literally.
To the point, it's to the point where like if they
aren't a whole mice team in the playoffs,
it'll be, ooh, what happened?
Like that's how good they've been.
And it's not just one thing.
Like you can't go, okay, it's just
Taj Thompson's dragged them every night.
Last night, UPL played really well.
Let's watch in that game.
Like they got the golden.
Alex Lyon is their really great.
Their number one.
But UPL is a really good, the reason I say UPL is
I'm not doing the Uka Puka.
It takes so long.
Right?
It's a shortcut.
It's good.
I like it.
It's better.
But you know, they're, again, I look at their D.
They can move the puck.
They can skate.
They jump in the play.
They're forwards.
They got a little bit of everything.
And what I love about it too is
they get some nasty in their game.
Like they, you know, any type of like altercation,
they're like a pack of wolves.
Like you can tell that group has gotten,
I think galvanized by so many negative things happening
and all of a sudden it's like,
it wouldn't surprise me if they had like,
you know, the major league poster in their industry.
That's right, yeah.
You know, and somebody,
and I don't think Terry Pagula is like this,
but he, you know, hey,
we're going to band against the owner type of thing.
You know, the major league is dead.
You know, although
Terry Pagula did not look very good in his year-end press
conference for the Buffalo Bills,
not up to those neighbors.
But I will say this.
Their owner has been very passionate about
keeping the team there.
He's dumped a bunch of money.
And you know, when Rob Ray was on your show,
he talked about how passionate the owner is,
how ingrained in the city he is.
It's a great story.
You know, our show, I'm sure your show,
many shows have kicked the Buffalo Savers
and the city of Buffalo in the junk for many years.
It's because you're not in the playoffs for 14 years.
Like how bad, you know, how many times did I hear people say,
how bad did Kevin Adams screw up that rebuild?
You know, why would you trade Dylan Cousins to Ottawa,
24-year-old, six-foot-three-senderman?
We got Josh Norris back.
He's played very well when he's healthy.
And that's the biggest challenge.
You know, I look at some of the moves
and you're thinking, ah, you know,
everybody who left Buffalo has won.
A lot of them have.
Like, you know, they gave us some stuff to talk about.
But now they deserve their flowers.
They deserve the love that they're getting
because they played great.
And you're right, Pinder.
They're not just a team that's like,
ah, Buffalo's on a heater.
They're a force to be recognized.
They're a team that, you know,
you expect them to beat that team
that they're playing that night.
That's how good they are.
I'm curious where that line is
because they're going to break this 14-year drought.
The place is going to be bananas.
And where do you, where's the hump?
It's like, well, I guess we're not going to win this round
or we're not going to, but what a great story.
Where you just kind of, you accept
that what you've done to this point,
everyone's going to be happy with your progress
and it's a success story
because there's going to be some adversity,
which is not to say there hasn't been,
but it's been quite a role.
They're just keep winning and winning.
There's not been any really adversity to speak of
for months now.
And that's going to have to change itself.
That's the thing.
The adversity, they're battle tested
because they've had nothing but adversity.
So now they're looking at the other side of the fence
and going, yeah, I like what this looks like.
It's funny because Buffalo,
depending on who you start.
So we had a spirited debate two nights ago.
I was on the leaf panel or was that last night?
Last night, I guess.
Yeah, on the leaf panel last night.
You were too much.
And one of the questions was going to be
about goal-tending in the playoffs.
And you know, what Edmonton did
and what all these other teams have done
and all that.
And I were going to say this.
And this is why it ties the Buffalo.
There's going to be a new Stanley Cup champion this year.
Florida's on.
They're not going to make it, okay?
So now you start looking at all the different storylines,
all the teams that are, quote-unquote, contenders.
Everyone's got warts.
Everyone's got some form.
So the saying could be, why not Buffalo?
Why what's holding Buffalo back
from coming out of the East?
Maybe Tampa.
I think Tampa's the better team.
I do think Tampa's the better team.
But, you know, Buffalo showed that they can
they can go blow, blow to blow with them the other day.
And that's like every eight, seven game, right?
But I look at it.
I look at Carolina and, you know,
Carolina didn't play well against Columbus last night.
But Brandon Bussey, I have more starts in the playoffs
than Brandon Bussey.
That's not good.
I got, he's got zero.
Frederick Anderson has 80.
He's got 80, 80 games played.
So if they need, they've got a safety, safety blanket there.
The Buffalo Sabers have four playoff games experience in net.
And that's Alex Lyon with the Florida Panthers.
UPL has, again, I'm ahead of him.
Yeah.
The couple of appearances.
So, you know, the weirdest thing is we were having the spirited debate.
While goal-tending wins and all of that.
I'm saying, you're right.
You're right.
So they're like, oh, well,
look at Edmonton doesn't have any experience.
And I go, you're right.
Tristan Jari has eight games.
Connor Ingram has three.
And then it was sudden I saw this magic thing of 11.
Minnesota.
Jesper Wallstead.
Yeah.
I'm an Ed Menn games play in the playoffs.
Gustafson has 11.
Colorado has 11.
Let's have four.
Blackwood has seven.
Again, I just talked about Edmonton.
Jari has eight.
Ingram has three.
Vegas has 44.
But Carter Hart has 14 of them.
He hasn't been playing.
Aiden Hills won a cup.
He's got their games of experience.
But, you know, I just talked about Carolina.
Buffalo, Alex Lyon has four.
And UPL has zero.
Like Montreal has six.
And Montenbo has three of them.
Those three are now probably crazy.
Yeah.
And I think Fowler might actually be a chance.
They might throw the range to them and say go play.
But it's just, it's wide open.
Thorkin has 14.
Gibson has 26.
Stuart Skinner has 50 in Pittsburgh.
And Vasilevsky has 120.
Yeah.
Yeah, when you asked the question,
the first thing I thought was,
if you have home ice, you're expected to win the series.
If you lose to Tampa, especially with the noodles, just said,
when you're up against all these feature hall of famers and one's the goalie.
And it's a long competitive series.
I think that's the hump where it's like, what a great year.
And we're still hungry.
This is the job's not done.
We'll be back next year because you usually do see noodles.
Teams that are new to the playoffs.
It's not usually the first time in you go on a crazy run.
It's the okay.
Let's figure out.
It's a different type of game.
It's a seven game series.
But they're positioned.
The third youngest team will lead.
They're positioned to be good for the next decade.
Like a lot of other guys are locked up.
Tages locked up.
They got to figure out talk.
But like, don't just got locked up.
He's been probably the best story there.
Everyone else is just a year older.
You're better.
That's very young.
Getting into the prime.
Don't is the out of nowhere story on this team.
Yeah.
And you know, the thing is though,
I think of like, they're not a Cinderella story
because of how well they're playing.
But I think of that first time when the LA Kings won the cup when Darryl went in there
in an eighth and just basically steamrolled everybody.
They're on days.
They're on days, yeah.
You know, and I look at Out East.
I think there's a lot of good stories.
I think Columbus could scare people.
They're a dangerous team.
Like if they get that Jack Greaves holds up and net,
that's another guy.
I didn't even look at.
But I, I guess.
I guess you know, between him and Elvis.
They Elvis has a few games.
But I think there's some great storylines.
And I think when I come back to when I,
when he used the word the Buffalo Sabers is,
why not?
Like I just don't see them as a team that
would just fizzle out in the first round and go,
okay, we got our experience.
Like they might be a team that's like,
we're bad attested because we've never been there.
And, and, and, you know, they might hit the ground running.
And it depends on who they face to in that first round.
That's the other thing.
If they win the Atlantic,
now you're, are they ahead?
Would they be ahead of Carolina?
I don't have the statings in front of me.
Sorry.
But I don't believe so when I'll check.
They're tied for tied with Carolina for tops in the east.
Okay, so they were used.
They would get the eight seed, which, you know,
one more game played.
Yeah.
So it's such a troid,
Boston Columbus Ottawa type team.
Now, Ottawa scare, for me,
I think Ottawa should scare people.
I agree.
I think Ottawa is the best team outside the playoff picture.
I think it might be Columbus.
They've been, they have been red hot since bones came in there.
What was the, where are they at last night after that?
Because they crushed five, one,
seven, 17, two, and four in their last 23.
If you look at their number under bones,
they look like a top five team elite.
Yes.
And what do you think?
It's not a huge sample, but it's getting bigger.
And what do you think of Jet Greaves?
I do like him.
I think he's really talented.
I do.
I like him as a goal.
I think he, if he was six foot four,
he'd be a perennial L star.
And he might end up being one anyways,
because he's a good young goalie.
But like, now he just needs the process.
He needs to play.
He's the dust and wolf.
He needs to play.
He needs to go through, you know, the ups and downs.
And, you know, I've watched him play.
God, he played back-to-back against Ottawa.
So they had played, I don't know if you remember this,
but it was a weird story,
but Columbus played at home.
And there was a bit of a snowstorm.
But they're playing something happened
with their plane.
Their plane was like stuck somewhere,
and then it broke down and maintenance.
And they're not like,
they're not with a charter company,
like American Airlines.
They're with like a unique charter.
Like, you know, Ricks Airlines type,
but they Ricks.
The guy has, like, love those guys.
Yeah.
Charter.
And they had signed the deal.
My understanding is this guy
didn't have another plane.
So that they got in an hour before the game,
and a back-to-back situation
and went in and beat Ottawa.
And Jed Greaves played both nights.
And I remember they gave it to myself.
Like, this kid,
like, nothing, he's not afraid of anything.
He goes in place.
And I really like him as a goalie.
That's, you know, I look at Columbus,
and we look at where Rensky,
you know, they got that Marchenko.
They've got some players there.
And, and I think quietly,
I don't want to say quietly,
but I think they could surprise some teams.
Put it that way.
We have a red update.
Thank the Lord.
You throw up prayers and sometimes they're answered.
No, they're answered.
And they're answered today.
I'm sorry, I'm in bed sick.
You don't get sick often,
but when he gets sick, he gets sick,
which is why he's such a huge germaphobe.
I imagine you're a bit of a germaphobe too,
but those were the 15,000 security cameras.
Well, I'm more of a security foe,
but no, the germaphobe is,
I mean, when I was 25 years old,
I had bacteria, meningitis,
and was an hour away from dying.
I had to re-teach myself to walk,
all that fun stuff.
Yes.
So I've got a compromised immune system,
but I think I killed everything that went into it,
but the amount of whiskey that I pump,
he was...
You know, I'm mindful of it.
Like, I'm on planes all the time,
so I bring sanitizer.
I wash my hands.
I'm not a masking guy.
I'm not, you know, I'm not a,
I'm waxed.
I'm not an anti-bacter,
but I am paying more attention to
what the world is all about these days,
but at just the end of the day,
I'm not as big a germaphobe as other people.
Like, I remember playing with a guy who was a germaphobe,
and I would drive him to the rink,
and I would cough or squeeze,
and he would crack his window and my window.
I'm like, what the hell is that going to do?
Yeah.
I, you know, by the end, you have kids.
Do you have kids?
You're Scrooze, yeah.
You talk to a window.
Kids are the rubbiest little trolls
you've ever seen in your life.
They bring stuff home,
they're hacking and coughing, weasel.
Oh, yeah.
That's a good thing.
Y'all are everywhere.
Scroozing.
You're like, yeah.
I think once I had kids,
it's like, there's...
I've got no chance.
Like, I'll either hold up, or that's it.
It's that herd immunity.
I remember I just got to get...
You just build it up over time.
It'll be all be sick for two years,
and then we'll be fine.
Last night, the Oilers play their first without dry side.
All tonight, the Penguins get Crosby back.
I guess just thoughts on both teams
headed in those directions.
The word is, it's regular season, at least,
for Leon.
And the Penguins did manage to do,
at least tread water, maybe even better with Bucid.
I mean, okay, so start in Edmonton.
Obviously, any type of star players take it out of your lineup,
it hurts you.
The one thing I thought it helped their team
at the deadline is the two guys they acquired, right?
Dickinson is a really good third line center for me.
He's kind of a younger Adam Henryk, to be honest.
And then Murphy, Conor Murphy, had helped stabilize their D,
and it seems to be working so far.
You're not a very good team if one player,
you lose one player and that's it.
I think they had needed more from some of the players
around those two.
R&H has been up and down.
I think he had a personal thing.
He had to leave the team, and now he's back.
I don't know the nature of that,
but he's a cerebral player who plays in fourth gear.
Never plays in fifth gear.
He's always thoughtful, just a very smart player.
Zach Hyman's got 29 goals in 50 games.
I mean, he's missed a ton of time and still there, geez.
Oh, there.
Like, so I know they could do it by committee,
and the Golden Goose is still there, and he's motivated.
So, losing dry subtle is going to hurt your power play,
although they scored R&H scored a dry subtle goal last night, right?
Same exact same play, it's just R&H shot instead of 29.
Five on five, Leon's extremely creative, extremely strong.
Like, you're not going to replace him,
but it has to be by committee.
They like this kid, Josh Samansky, who has got some jam,
got some speed.
I do think there's enough there for them to, you know,
quote unquote, tread water or more,
because if you look at Strength of Schedule,
there's that web site or whatever.
You know, they do have a favorable schedule down there.
Vegas has been the shits.
I mean, the Oilers passed Vegas last night,
and the Pacific.
The crazy thing is, and we had this argument yesterday too,
on Sports Center.
It's like, the Oilers are in big trouble.
They're four points out of a playoffs, but I'm like,
yeah, but they're two points out of first.
I said, like, you do need, they've got 13 games left,
eight at home, five on the road.
You still have to win games, but it looks like,
Pinder, what's the number?
They're going to be 90, you think, 90, 92-ish to get into playoffs?
In the West, that's a good question.
I mean, the team is right now at 71, and they've got...
We haven't been that focused on the playoffs.
I'm hearing it now.
I'd say it's going to be low this year.
It's projected to be 86 at this point,
ish, but maybe a little, let's call it 90.
Yeah, like, that's what I'm thinking.
It's like, you've crossed your 96 didn't get in.
It's going to be way lower than that.
Yeah, it's going to be way lower.
I think it is going to be either 90 or just sub 90,
88-ish type of thing.
But like, you know, they have to control their own destiny.
I think they've played a lot better defensively,
which has helped, because they're not just,
you know, outside of that Dallas game on that road trip,
like, they've really knuckled down.
So, Edmonton, I think, can do it without dry subtle,
but you're not going anywhere in the playoffs if you don't have them.
Like, I'm sorry, it's just there...
And even if you do have them, I'm not convinced this is their year.
But you never know.
There might be a pathway for them
if they continue to get stronger,
and some of those players settle in.
I've settled along, and I've got to be consistent.
I like Ingram.
I think he's a good goal-tender.
I've liked his style.
He's, you know, they're leaning on him more.
He made some really good saves last night.
I watched that game and helped them stay in it
when they needed it.
Crosby, Pittsburgh is my surprise team of the year.
Like, just hands down surprise team of the year.
And there's been Buffalo.
There's been, your name, Florida, not in, Toronto, not in.
Like, there's been lots of surprises.
But I thought Pittsburgh was in cell now mode,
talking to managers that were negotiating with Kyle Dubas
on several of his players in the offseason.
None of those players moved,
and now they've helped them get to the next level.
Gino turned the clock back the other night,
a couple goals, and looked like he was dancing.
Eric Carlson looks like Eric Carlson,
the hundred-point guy in San Jose
from a couple of years ago.
They got a chance to, you know,
I don't say to do anything,
because I don't think they're a team
that could come out of the east.
But again, I thought they wouldn't be in the playoff
picture, so they could prove me wrong
and a lot other naysayers.
But it's a great story
and getting Crosby back is huge.
And if they line up against the islanders,
I mean, those are two surprise stories.
Someone's gonna get to the second round.
Yeah. Why not?
And Dan, by the way, a Jack,
our producer, massive penguins fan.
Jack has a nickname he wants you to push
because of your massive platform that you've got.
The coach is not Dan Mews.
It's Dan, Dan the man.
It's Dan the man.
Just so you know.
That's a terrible nickname.
I'm not.
Do you have the shot?
And no one's heard of this guy before he gets hired outside.
Yeah, I like that from Noodle.
So you're terrible.
It's not good enough.
It's not a good enough nickname.
Dan the man.
Okay, like that, like like that.
Like I would rather call him Dan the musician.
Yeah.
Like something like Dan the magical man.
Like some magic man.
There it is.
We see this guy.
We're like, so Jack will throw this up early in the season.
It's like just.
Yes, the penguins.
Like Jack get out of here with this.
So it's Dan.
Like who is this movie character?
And I mean, this guy's, he's pulled the right strings.
And for a team like Pittsburgh,
like, and then we can move on.
But for a lot of those guys,
they thought they may not, I'm guessing.
I might not taste the playoffs again.
Yeah, for Carlson and Latang and those guys,
those those days are maybe behind.
I didn't sit in Montreal or Stephanie.
I don't really want to leave Pittsburgh.
But if I ever want to play in the playoffs again,
maybe I have to and then all of a sudden it's like,
shit, we're boys.
We're going.
They're home ice battles tonight.
That's some youth injection has driven the bus there.
So maybe it'll stick Dan the man.
I listen, either way.
When I called a game in Pittsburgh,
I think it was maybe a month ago or whatever.
You know, in talking to him, smart guy level headed.
Not overwhelmed.
It doesn't, it doesn't seem like he's.
Who's this Dan the man?
Yes, Dan the man musician, right.
I just think that like he's very comfortable
in his skin there.
Who's the guy who is the Miami Dolphins coach
that the goof on the sidelines there?
He had, when I before I met him and just watched him,
he had that McDaniel type of feel,
where it's like the standing back there,
real tactical, really smart, really cerebral.
So it kind of is in line with like Kyle Dubas,
like Dubas out of the side box thinker.
And it's, you know, in talking to him,
he's wonderful.
Like he's a, he's smart.
He's, he's, you know, I quote,
I actually vote for coach of the year.
I could see.
Need you.
I can see maybe him being in that conversation.
It shouldn't be.
Maybe they're, they were the only team in the off season
that we heard from insiders.
We're actively trying to be bad this year.
And we thought.
And Dubas loads up on one year guys that he can flip.
It was going to be pump and dumps on Mantha
and all these other guys.
And all of a sudden, it's like holy shit.
Mike Sullivan, probably a guy going to the Hall of Fame leaves.
The team, he's coach, he's fallen in the shitter,
stays in the shitter.
And this team that no one had expectations for
is all of a sudden in a home ice spot.
Like he's absolutely a finalist.
It's just going to be, is it him or is it Lindy Ruff
or does Rassoski get San Jose and
or is it finally time for John Cooper to get one?
Like I don't see any other candidates.
Maybe Kwenville.
But and I'm out of the playoffs in there.
If they're used.
Yeah, I mean, you're right.
Everybody you're talking about
has a lane towards it.
It's just how these last 15 games, 13 games,
shake out.
But I think Dan, the man has to be right.
And like, there's three.
Hi friends.

There's three that you choose.
You're top three.
I don't see why he couldn't be in that top three.
Jack is so happy right now.
He's just, all I can see is the top of his head over the monitor.
He's like, yeah, he's just, he's loving it.
But it is, it's fair, and it's a fair assessment.
And we'll just find him a better nickname
than he will work on it.
He'll work, shall work.
I actually had a note as how many games do you need to,
because we've talked about already, with, with bones.
So how many games do you need to be there?
Because that's quite a turnaround.
I know.
So here's, you want to get crazy?
How about this?
Coach of the year, Rick bonus, who, who coaches 30 games,
GM of the year, Kevin Adams, who's not on his couch.
He was gone when it happened.
It's, it's, it's, it's kick a lot and come on now.
I know, but like, all that team is, they've added Luke Shen
and, and Logan Stanley.
You know, that's Kekalainen's stamp on that team.
Although I do, in talking to people out of Buffalo,
the, the instant impression that Kekalainen made was like,
I believe in this group, like, almost like, follow me.
Like, it was almost like, I'm the leader,
and this is what we're going to do.
And I feel bad because Kevin Adams assembled everything.
And then Kekalainen's come in and kind of pushed it to the next level.
And it might be an attitude.
It might be the culture he wants to create, whatever it is.
But certainly, Yarmul has had an effect.
Yeah, it's a, it's a, it's a, sorry, James.
I was going to say it's got to be a weird feeling for Kevin Adams.
There'd be some pride because that's his team.
And at the same time, you're sitting at home.
While it's the best run that they've made, that one of the best runs
in franchise history.
And he's, I mean, I think there is probably some solace for him.
Like he's getting paid, you know, you, you, you, wasn't an embarrassing,
like, you know, I, the way I look at it, sometimes you relieve a guy
because it's just like, you've got to put him out of his misery.
Like the way I look at it is, you look back, he,
he made a lot of methodical moves.
Yes, did he miss on things or did you, you feel like you could have gotten
something better?
I don't know the Jack Eichel story.
I don't know.
And I don't even know if that was him.
I think that like ownership and Jack Eichel, didn't it?
Yeah.
So I, we don't know the backstory of how much
control he had, what he was being told to do by the owner,
all of that type of stuff.
But I, I think if we wanted to get crazy and do like,
and it has been, I've said it, I've been consistent.
This is a weird year.
It's just a weird year that's been good hockey.
There's been bad hockey.
There's just weird stuff happening all over.
If you want to keep the weird ballad going,
you got to put Bussi in for your Vesna, because
you don't know where he's been unreal for Carolina.
Yeah, unreal.
And, you know, like, there's exactly like, we could have the weird awards.
And that's, you know, that's the opposite George.
That's what it is.
George, you know, because you talked about,
when you look at what potential playoff matchups are going to be,
you could see some real upsets.
It's like, it's Carolina, world beaters,
baby buffalo, I don't know, even care, even,
promise gets in, why not them?
Like, Colorado has one of the worst power plays in the league.
And they, yeah, I think they just need the regular season to end almost.
Just get to the playoffs already.
Yeah.
But, but it does have that kind of a vibe.
I don't know what the, like, the bet three six fives of the world,
the prohibitive favorites.
Are there, well, think of this too.
That central, like, there's three juggernauts,
and one of them's going home no matter what.
Like, one of them's going home.
That's it, like, two of them are going by around three.
Exactly.
Like, it's just, it's a weird, I do think the league,
and not just because of what we're talking about,
but like, I do think the one verse eight,
like, I do think it should be revisited,
like, you know, the seating,
like, just the, you know, whatever it is.
One verse eight, two verse seven,
you know, three verse six type of thing.
Yeah.
You know, it just would make for a different look.
And I don't, yeah, you know, I understand why they're doing noodles,
but I also understand why it feels unfair.
It's obvious to say that it, you know,
when we had Dallas Caller out around one last year,
because when a pig won that division,
like, this is ludicrous.
These are two cup contenders.
This is insane.
This is first round.
I'm going to watch it, and you're probably going to be more people watching around one
because of it, and you're strengthening these rivals' reason division.
Like, it's great for revenue,
but God, it feels unfair.
The Anaheim would be wild card two if they were in the central,
and instead they're going to win their division
and get a waste off your path in Minnesota,
who's been the world's better than this year.
Yeah, that is fair, you know, and like, the thing about it too,
these last like 10, 13 games,
nothing is certain.
LA has games in hand, they can make a run,
and you know, get their act together.
I just don't know, like that Pacific is very unique,
like, because there hasn't been a bonafide team
that's been consistent all season long.
And, you know, when you look at it,
that Pacific, you know, there might be an easier path to come out of there.
If you end up, yeah, let's look at the standings.
Thank you.
I mean, you know, Anaheim's got two games on Edmonton.
You know, I still think Edmonton's a better team than Anaheim,
but I, you could challenge it just based on the consistency of how
Edmonton hasn't had consistency.
The fact of Vegas is still in there, and it's been,
they've been wildly inconsistent,
haven't gotten the goal tending at all,
and I think Minnesota is a really scary team.
I think they're really, really good.
Colorado has so many points, but if you look at it,
they have, they've come back down to Earth.
Like, they're kind of just treading water since the beginning.
Exactly.
And then, like I say, you look at this LA and San Jose,
like San Jose watching them last night,
they got a lot of good pieces there, a lot.
Like they're, they're getting, they're getting close to being
scary territory.
They continue to grow that, and you know,
LA Seattle is a weird team for me.
Like, I, I don't particularly care for them.
That's my windows.
Yeah, there's no ocean.
Yeah, it is, they're, they've got good players,
but they don't have a superstar.
I think they're goal tending school.
I like Joey DeCourt.
I really like Joey DeCourt.
And group hours had a good season,
but I, you know, Seattle's a team.
You taught as a team that's sneaky for me.
I was surprised
that Bill Armstrong didn't do more at the deadline.
He might have been trying to.
Weaker's not nothing, but it felt like they're in on Thomas
and some other big fish, right?
Exactly. Like, they've got good players there.
And I wouldn't sleep on them, but I just, I,
I was expecting
Bill Armstrong, you know, for years,
this is a guy who's been sitting on currency
and players and draft picks and all of that.
Like, big swinging.
You're right.
Getting Thomas or getting somebody
that is, you know, another massive threat.
Because they, they do have the one thing
that you trust really good is
in their own building.
They play their hard to play against in that building.
It's, they're fast.
They move the puck around.
The Melkas held up, you know,
the Vanacek doesn't give them much, you know, every night,
but the other guy, the Melkas, really good.
I think he's up there in leading the league and,
in wins for, for Goldtenders.
So it's interesting.
It's, and our flames, they're hanging in there, you know.
We're doing what they need to do, Newtles.
Second from the bottom.
It's, they're not going to be able to reel in Vancouver.
They're very proud of us.
We're proud of them.
They, they're entertaining.
They work hard.
I used the term last night on the lead broadcast
the dignified tank.
And I like that.
Yeah.
We used that 10 years ago in Toronto
when Babcock came in and Shanahan
came in and said, pain is coming.
But at the end of the, you know,
at the end of the pain,
there is going to be a part of Gold type of thing.
Now, that was Austin Matthews.
They got it.
It was 10 years ago.

What Calgary is doing,
and it was every night.
It was the dignified tank in Toronto,
whereas like they'd lose three to,
it wouldn't cheat you for effort.
You'd see some young players that you really like
that hope that they're going to bust through
to the next year and be a part of the future.
That's what Toronto has to do right now.
I don't know if they're capable of doing that,
just given knee-lander and some other players that are there.
It might be a little bit too good to get to that bottom five,
but Calgary is doing it the right way.
And I don't know you guys have the pulse of the fan base
is everybody accepting, happy,
what's the verbiage on what they're doing right now?
I have not heard a single naysayer.
It's been too obvious for too long that they needed to do this
and they've almost shown too much of an unwillingness not to do it
that everyone's fine.
It's more relief than anything.
It's been so clear they've had to do this for three years.
In the past, they've kind of been maybe a wild car.
You could kind of squint if you were eternal optimist.
They say, well, you win three or four in a row.
You could be right.
That's not this year.
So I think for the first time,
everybody's pretty much on this same page.
I'm just so happy.
I think Connie and his group have done such a great job there.
And obviously, they've got a lot of work ahead of them,
but for me, it is just shown.
And maybe it's a tribute to Murray and ownership group
or whatever, or Connie and his group,
like they've at least shown that there is a pathway.
Earlier in the year, we're concerned that they didn't verbalize it.
It's through their work.
It's shown there is a pathway.
And that's, that's good.
I just wanted to bring this to your attention,
because you mentioned it earlier.
I sent a jack to strike the schedule remaining in the NHL this year.
Toughest schedule left.
Dan, the magician, the man, the magic man, the musician, the magic man.
Pittsburgh, you have the toughest schedule left.
Boston number two, Calgary three, which will be very helpful.
Other teams of note, Montreal fifth toughest.
And at the very bottom, the easiest remaining schedule in the NHL.
L.A.
Mulee playing much better L.A. King's.
Who've been scoring a lot more since Penair and Arad
than have a new coaching place.
That's, I thought I saw that L.A.
could not even sneak in.
They can get in and make some hay up into the into maybe,
you know, in that third, third second spot.
Who knows?
Like, just depending.
But yes, strength is scheduled.
I did see that too.
It's like, don't they play Vancouver like three times?
I thought I saw that.
Like, which Vancouver's dying to lose?
We'll check out the free PC.
Like, PD finally scored his first goal in 21 games last night.
I forgot two, I guess.
You know what?
It's, it is still.
There's too many games to talk about coasting to the end.
That's the crazy thing.
Because there's still 15, 13 to 15 games left.
That's 32 points.
You know, like, somebody could go on a heater,
a buffalo heater and that we haven't seen
and go, oh, they ended up winning the division.
Or they ended up doing this and, you know,
Nashville won't go away.
I think Winnipeg lost that point last night.
That was, that hurt, that hurt me.
That hurt, like, I've been dying for them.
Like, I wanted them to have some sort of a resurgence.
In my mind, I was hoping there's still four Canadian teams
that could make it.
And that would be, you know,
Ebondomontriol, Ottawa and Winnipeg.
And I just, you know, now, that last,
losing that point last night, it gets Nashville.
That was huge for me, that hurt me.
Okay, last one, 10 seconds on Ottawa.
Are they getting the saves now?
It looks like it's been a better run.
Yes, they are my biggest worry is Linus Almar.
I just, you know, he, if I hope he's knock on wood healthy,
physically and mentally, to handle a load down the stretch here.
And if that's the case, yes, they're getting what they need.
We'll work on the damn use situation.
We'll revisit in a week or so.
Has your schedule slowed down at all?
Or do you, like, we're post deadline?
You're still just...
Well, it has, like, I'm not, I took this week off,
but I was on the leave panel last night in sports center.
And then, I'm not on overdrive today,
but I'm doing a game, I'm doing Ottawa Islanders tomorrow.
And then I fly to Florida to see my family for a couple days,
because they're down there.
Nice.
And then I come back Monday.
I fly, do my shows.
And then I'm in Detroit Tuesday.
Wednesday home to do shows.
Thursday, I'm in Ottawa.
Friday, I fly right back to Tampa,
because Ottawa's there Saturday afternoon.
So it's, yeah, it's a bit greasy,
but it's been stabilized right now.
I could, it could be worse.
I could be right-warner laying in bed.
True, yeah.
Yeah, you could be that.
We appreciate you, James.
Have a good week, Tom.
