Looking forward to rolling through some more. Yeah, it's going to be fun, Trev. I appreciate everybody's got questions in here so far today. Let's get rockin' and roll and we've got one here from MC2737. What passing and run concepts did you not see, not see much of or not see Randwell against Wisconsin that you would like to see more of down the road for Notre Dame?

The only past concepts that I really wanted to see more of are using your receivers a little bit more on some of the faster short routes. They used the tight ends a lot for the check downs and the crossers and I think that made sense against Wisconsin because they were trying to free the receivers up to catch the balls behind them which worked. They completed two ends for big plays to Jordan Faeson. They completed an over route to Milen Graham over top of the linebacker. So they were using the tight ends there but I still want to see more of those crossers and quit game from the receivers now or from the offense but I don't love that. So they were buzzing hard outside. I don't know that like slants would have been something that would have worked a whole lot. I would be worried about them dropping underneath the slant. CJ not seeing it and you turn a ball over. The things that we didn't see, I'm not being critical that we didn't see them in the past game. There's still things that I want to see.

Run game wise there were things that I'll be critical that we didn't see and they just didn't have enough counters. It was mid zone quick zone, mid zone quick zone, mid zone quick zone. All game. They ran like duo once or twice. They ran quick toss twice. There was nothing else that countered mid zone mid zone, mid zone mid zone, mid zone mid zone mid zone. And I think that the run game needs to be more creative especially when you're struggling with it. Now, I'm not saying that they shouldn't have run mid zone as the primary run. That's fine, especially with how Wisconsin plays. I think you're going to have more success getting movement against that big physical but maybe not as athletic front than you are just trying to run right into the teeth of it. Like if they would have ran duo 20 times and mid zone 10, I'd be like, I don't know that that's where you wanted to go against that group. But maybe run mid zone 18 times and duo seven or eight times and then toss three or four times instead of the two. So maybe run a jet sweep to kind of keep their, their, you know, eye discipline there.

Maybe run some sort of misdirection and those are things that we definitely didn't see a lot of. I'm not someone that believes you've got to carry eight, nine, ten run concepts into a game. But I need to see four or five and I need to see the second and third runs that aren't the same exact as your base run run more than four times with two of them being in the fourth quarter. Like that's where I had an issue with the design of the run game. Pass game I, I'm fine with the pass game. I mean, if you're a board member, watch the 25 minute breakdown I did of the Notre Dame pass game. And for all the people going, I need to go down to like, Trev, you saw it, even when they lined up tight into the boundary, they would bail Jordan phase on's getting a 10, 12 yards and there at DB's are like 15, 16 yards. Why am I throwing deep balls against that? Yeah, okay, forced the issue. But Notre Dame was getting the same thing out of a dig cut underneath all that that you can catch and run, then they would have tried to throw a post route into a deep coverage

Tampa two or cover four or cover three or whatever. And I just, you know, look, you had some catch and run opportunities. Why? Because they were bailant. And so I was fine with the pass game for the most part. I was more frustrated with the design of the run game. Yeah, I think you talked about it in your pass game breakdowns. You know, Gidoulli talked about it in his time with the media on Tuesday. And look, what I've come to take away is when people here take what the defense gives you, a lot of people just assume that that means check downs, which one, the check downs were effective because Nolan James Jr had four catches for 67 yards and a touchdown with like 50 of those yards coming after the catch. So I'm not upset about that either. But some of take what the defense gives you also include just banging a backside dig because they just felt like not covering Jordan Fazon. Now on top of that, it's going to be up to Mike Denbrock to come up with some sort of counter to every single time these corners are bailing.

That's going to be my biggest thing. You know, what can he do there? It's game one. I'm not, I'm not mad at him for not doing it and trying to find ways to throw bombs. Marcus Freeman talked about it in his post game. He's like, I mean, if we wanted to, we could have thrown it 30, the deep, all 30 times. There's just no need to. And so it'll be up to the offensive coaching staff to continue coming up with counters. To because Wisconsin, I promise you is not going to be the only team on Notre Dame's regular season schedule that bails their corners at the start of every snap. I promise you that, which I think is nuts, by the way. I think that's absolutely nuts. But hey, that's, that's just kind of where they are. But like, look, you know, last year guys in November, I'd like to remind you when they were 10 and 11 right number one in the country, Indiana beat Wisconsin 31 to seven. There was 10 to seven at halftime. Now Fernando Mendoza hit some big plays in that game. Or he had a big play in that game early in the game, but all their other big plays were very similar. It was quick throws that turned into big plays, taking advantage of that.

The issue with the offense in the first half was not something having to do with the past game. It was the run game. So they're going to slow the drape down. When they started running the ball better in second half, they were better. And like you talked about not covering Jordan Fazon, that's because they were doing what? Linebackers are coming up. Safety's are protecting deep. Well, when you do that, there's going to be a big void right in the middle of the field that you need to take advantage of. And I thought no, no, they did a pretty good job of taking advantage of that in the game. So the run game now, could they have gone to those things more? Now we're debating frequency and that's a fair thing to say. I thought they should have maybe used the past game a little bit more to take the pressure off the run game as opposed to just, you know, we got a force run game, got a force run game, got a force run game. I understand why they did that, but it didn't mean I liked it. We have a, since we're talking about concerns and things we didn't like, let's just go and keep that role in here for a second. We have one that just popped up from Dome of Grids. Any concerns at the past rush gave the quarterback enough time to complete those double move routes. I know Wisconsin's run scheme slowed down the rush and we had some success.

The pick six, but thoughts. I looked at it. I said this to you. That was it yesterday, two days ago. I'm, I like to think that I don't get surprised by much because I've been doing this for as long as I have. You know, I'm going to Brian Kelly this for a second, but you know, I've been doing this since 2010 professionally and I was doing certain things, but even before then on, you know, message boards and I'm like, I should, I should know how people, I should be able to anticipate better how some people respond. And I'll be honest, I, the thing that I was not surprised that the overreactions to the receiving core or the offense, I kind of expected that. I mean, it was obvious to that because I had things that I didn't agree with from the performance of the offensive didn't love. So I knew that there was going to be over action. I'm shocked at the reaction people have to the play that defensive line in this game. Shocked, especially the past rush. They weren't getting those double moves off of dropbacks. They were quick throws. They were aggressive quick double moves. I think one, they moved the pocket.

Like so just because you're doing a double move doesn't mean it's a pure dropback. I mean, it's literally catch pump, throw. That's what they were doing. I thought the past rush was very good. And part of the reason they were running the quick stuff they were running is because they were worried about the past rush. Marcus, you'd said this, Marcus Freeman said this in the press conference. They had 11 pure dropbacks and they got pressures on nine of them. And so Wisconsin knew that they couldn't block the NRMD line and that's why they did the things that they did. So it was in a situation where like they were running like stop and goes and the quarterback got to pump and then do another drop and then throw and the D lines not getting there. It was more so just this is still happening quickly. And that's what I mean, that was good coaching by Wisconsin. And if no name didn't bite on the double moves, they're getting sacks on those plays. And when they were in obvious past situations in the D line was able to pin their ears back

at the end of the game. I thought the past rush was exceptionally effective. I just look. I've talked to some people who were willing to die on the hill that the offensive line played a great game and the D line has a lot of room for consumers. Are you serious? Oh yeah. And it's like I just that conversation needs to be flipped. I know people want to run cover for Joe Rudolph and act like the offensive line can do no wrong because Notre Dame is O line you. I had more questions about the offensive line coming out of that game than the defensive line. Joseph doesn't rush for three yards because the D line plays bad. No, Wisconsin doesn't rush for 61 yards because the D line played bad or 67 yards, whatever they had. Like I just it's beyond me. I'm not saying it's anybody in this chat. I'm not saying that it's anybody on the boards like, but I've had those conversations with people who I know understand the game of football relatively. I just I don't understand. There are some takeaways that I have after working this job for two years where I'm convinced that I walk away watching a different game than some people. Lot of it has come down to you at different expectations.

Sure. And I said this yesterday, I really think some of this is just about, you really you expected Wisconsin to just get destroyed. And when they didn't, it's like, oh my gosh. I expected the D line to have five six sacks. And what you and I said was against that offensive line, the defensive line should dominate. And they did again, they had they had 67 rushing yards on 30 some carries. Every time they drop back to throw on any kind of drop back, he was pressured. And there was a lot of quick throws were even on quick throws. They were pushing the backfield the back, the all offensive line back. And he's throwing off of his back foot thrown it. You know, eradically, there's the play where he hits the top of his drop throws that passed to to the boundary against learning more that he almost picks it off. I mean, Boo Boo Car put an absolutely six spin move on that tackle. If that's a pure dropback, he's getting drilled. You know, that was a rhythm throw. You're not going to get to the quarterback very often in rhythm throws unless you have run throughs and you're just blowing blocking assignments. I thought the D line played very well. Very well.

Yep. Now, relative to game one, I would expect there to be continued better play, but that's true for everybody. So every game day, you show up for your team. Now it's your time. So that was an understandable comment or a good comment to kind of get into, but I want to get to some more here. Got one from 17, simplified. Thank you for your service, sir. What does Denbrock need to see to feel more comfortable utilizing the play action past more? I love in price last year, another name ranked 131st in the nation. He's just not a play action guy. That's just really the reality of it. He's just not a big, never has been a big play action guy. And I'm also not someone who thinks you need to run play action 12 times a game. I don't want him to be Iowa either. Iowa wants to crap out of play action past, and they can't throw the ball at all. You know what I mean? I do think there's merit to 2-3 pure dropbacks again. The thing I'd like to see him do a little bit more is some action out of the backfill CJ car getting him kind of out of the pocket a little bit off of a play action, especially

in the red zone. I think that could be effective, but he's just not a big play action guy. And I'm okay with that. I think there's things you can do to manipulate teams to be effective that don't require pure play action. But yeah, I would like to see a little bit more of it, but I'm not someone who's like, I want him to kind of look like I, and I'm just saying, simplifies doing that. I'm just using that as an example. I mean, that's a team that runs a mess of play action past. I'm just not someone who believes you've got to call a million. I think it's more important to throw out of looks. You know, like, so if you're going to run that little line, you know, full back behind center thing, you've got to throw a little bit more out of that. And I think they threw a couple times out of that. But like, that's my big thing is whatever you're going to do in the run game, you've got to have stuff to have that goes with that that's not just that thing. And sometimes it can be play action. Sometimes it's just as simple as like, hey, look, we're going to line up like this because it gives us a numbers or leverage advantage somewhere else, even in a pure drop back. But he's just not a big play action guy. I would like to see a little bit more of it.

Maybe we do, but especially in a game like that, but if he's not going to run a ton of play action, it's Wisconsin. I don't see that happening a whole lot. The only thing I really want to see Denver, I utilize more is pre snap motion. Like that's the one thing that I will die in the hill on. Like if they don't do more play action, I could live with it, especially out of the shotgun play action hits differently. Like it's not the same as going back to center all the time. But more pre snap motion for sure, not just like the little quick motion they do with the tight end to essentially move them as a blocker. Yeah, that's that's what I would like to see. From Muhammad Abdi, did Notre Dame jump the gun, scheduling Clemson out of conference, or do you think they have preferred scheduling floor to state or Miami for recruiting purposes of giving a second chance? Guys, I think we need to stop thinking that that was the only option that they had. Like they is only scheduling one. There's nothing stopping Notre Dame from scheduling Miami every year, other than Miami needs to say yes, which they have it. Nothing. Like they can't like, well, we did Clemson now we screwed because we can't play someone

else. Clemson was the only willing partner of the teams that were worthy of playing consistently. But guys, Clemson's still going to be fine. Maybe they're not the team they were in the 2010s, but that's still a good football team. And if dabbo leaves, they'll probably hire someone that's going to be good after that. So yeah, I don't think Notre Dame regrets that. I don't think they jumped the gun. They had a team willing to schedule them for a decade. That's a good football program. They're not in the late program anymore. If Miami wanted to play Notre Dame for 10 years, then guess what? That would get scheduled. But you need a willing partner, right? I mean, that's the reality of it. Dramat, did you guys have dances when you were a kid? Oh yeah. Okay, so you couldn't just go grab a chicken, drag her onto the dance floor and dance with her, right? Like she had to be willing to go. I mean, you could, but you're going to get kicked out of the dance and probably get beat up in a parking lot as you should. But you have to have a willing partner, right? Otherwise, you're just out there either committing felonies or you're dancing by yourself,

you know what I mean? Like, you need a willing partner. That's what the person was a willing partner. Floor state, Miami aren't. Maybe that changes, especially with the new AD at Miami once he gets hired. But like, well, I think they made the right decision. Well, on the flip side, Mohamed, if this is the kind of the angle that you're coming at, like, again, this is why scheduling opponents in the future is so tough because you don't know what they're going to be like. There's a world where Clemson turns it around and they become 2016 USC. I'm not going to predict it, but it could happen. But I don't think they jumped the gun because I don't think anybody, a year removed from winning the ACC and making the 12 team cons football playoff, anybody thought that they were going to just take a swan dive off a cliff. Like I just, I don't, I don't think that's the case either. So you just never know what teams are. I mean, who knows what, you know, Texas is going to be when Notre Dame gets him in a home and home or what BAM is going to be when Notre Dame gets him in a home and home. There's a world when in 2033, when Notre Dame plays Michigan again, Michigan could be back on top and it could look very different from what it looks like right now.

That's just what makes it so difficult. Yeah, um, with you on that. For my Den, how stupid am I to say I need to see it with CJ 1 to 10, it being as in the superior arm talent and downfield throws in a game that take him to the next level, asking for a friend. Let me in a tough spot here, I Den, because you're forcing me to insult you or lie to you, one of the other. I'd say I'd probably give it a 8. I don't think it's completely a 10. I mean, there are things CJ car has to prove. I think my bigger issue is people thinking they're, they need to see it every game. They don't. There's games in the NFL where quarterback may throw the ball over 30 yards once. Same thing in Cox football. You don't need to throw the ball down the field to make a leap throws. The throw that CJ car made to Jordan Faizon on that first dig cut was one of the best throws

I've ever seen him make. One of the bet, that was a Jimmy Klaus and tight throw. Timing elite arm talent, snapping the ball off, throwing him into the opening. I mean, that was about as good of a throw as you're going to see. One go balls does not require great arm talent. Just requires strong arm to a degree. There's some accuracy in fall, but you know, it's like it's almost like we're never happy as a fan base. Lashes like, well, I know you throw the ball down the field, but he's got to work over the middle of the field. He doesn't throw the middle of field enough. When he throws over the middle of the tunnel against Wisconsin, well, why do you need to see the down field stuff? You mean the down field stuff? We saw him throw all year last year, but then we complain that we don't see him throw ball for a mill enough. And then when he throws a ball over the middle, it really effectively. Now we're upset and we're not happy, stolen the ball down the field enough. You get him? We're just never happy as a fan base. I thought CJ Carr played fine. There were some reads that he made. I have a very high ceiling for him.

I thought he executed the offense. Well, I think he got them into some good checks. I think he made some elite throws in this game. He also missed on some throws. He missed on the double move to Jordan Faeson. He's got to hit that throw. Game one. He missed a read that I think he could have banged a back shoulder touchdown to Jaden great house. Wasn't perfect. But to say I need to see it. If you haven't seen it by now, then you're just never going to see it because you're thinking he's going to come out and just throw bombs all game. And like we're playing NCAA 20 CFB 2027 or something like that. Like guys, if you haven't seen it by now, if you weren't happy with some of the arm talent throws he made on Sunday night, then I don't know what you're looking for. Because I think he made argue be the best though his career on Sunday night. That required really good arm talent on the on the throw the dig to Faeson. So I just I don't know what you're looking for. I got nothing. I mean, am I wrong? You got nothing because you agree or you got nothing because I'm nuts. I'm just curious because like are you as frustrated about it as I am?

Yeah, okay. Yeah, that's all I got to say. I just will make sure that you're you got nothing because you don't feel you can't disagree with me if you disagree with me. I just want to make sure that we definitely not disagree on that topic, brother. No worries. From Brandon Gilbert, what is and has Marcus Freeman done differently that has this team mentally prepared to dominate the N.I.U. martial races of the world? I don't know. Brandon, I honestly don't know. I mean, we've talked about a lot of it's just the, you know, the clear your plate stuff and then not just the saying, but then what does it mean? I think it's just about an overall level of focus. I don't know that what he's done will have the team better prepared until we actually see him play that game. But I think it's, I think what Marcus Freeman understands and what I like about what Marcus Freeman understands and now we just need to see it result in better performances in some of those games is he understands it's not, it's not necessarily how you practice per say like the structure of your practice. It's not necessarily the structure of your offseason program. It's getting players to buy into a certain mindset that is how they go about their business

every single day and in every aspect of what they do in your football program. It's little things like, hey, you know, we ask you to be on time for this to do this, to conduct yourself this way, to wear this, to do that. Some people say, that's silly. It has that help you in football games. That absolutely helps you in football games because what you're doing is you're instilling a constant mindset because here's the thing that people I think sometimes don't understand. We all understand that your body has to be trained to do things, right? Like, you don't just say, hey, I've never picked up a basketball before and I'm going to go out there and look like Steph Curry. Now you may be born with certain gifts, but Steph Curry also shot a million shots growing up to become the player he was. If Steph Curry just relied on his God given ability, he never makes it to the NBA. I mean, do we agree on that if he didn't put in the work? He had to train his body, enhance his mechanics and all those type of things. All great players do that. Michael Jordan. I remember we listened to a show as I think it was magic and Larry is something about magic Johnson and Larry Bernie's talking about like they would like Larry's like, man,

I, you know, I got to go out there and shoot a thousand free throws because I bet you magic shooting a thousand free throws and magic shooting a thousand free throws because he's about I bet Larry's shooting a thousand free throws. You know what I mean? Like they didn't just say, hey, I'm a better talent than Larry Bird. I'm a better talent than magic Johnson. So I'm just going to go out there and show it. You got to put in the work physically where I think people don't understand is you also got to put that work in mentally. And the mental piece isn't just about what you do in that hour and a half to two hours on practice. You can't ask players to be disciplined for two hours a day, but then allow them to be undisciplined in every other aspect of what you do as a program. You have to train their minds, train their focus, train their eyes on a certain way of going about their business. It's how you conduct yourself in meetings. It's how you conduct yourself in the weight room. It's how you conduct yourself in the training room. It's how you conduct yourself on campus. How you conduct yourself in the in the the the the the the the I was going to say the mess hall. It's not meant like in the dining facility. All of that goes together and it does impact how you play because I don't believe that

players can or a team as a whole can just kind of turn that switch on and off when they feel like it. That's how teams tend to underachieve. And so I think it's those type of things that he has he understands. Now we just have to see that it. It carries out the way that it needs to be carried. And part of that's what your player leadership like I I thought I thought the player leadership as much for the North Illinois game as I do the coaching leadership as Trevor's pointed out when one of the quote unquote lead is your team is like I am who Northern Illinois was. But you know like so it all goes together. But I think it's that aspect of a brand and that's really what coach Freeman is focused on and that's what the whole leave no doubt thing is. He's explained it like. And that's what the you know clear your plate all that stuff is built on. It's like this is how we're asking you to do things. This is the role. This is the task we're asking you to have. And we need you to do that with a certain level of attention to detail and focus and passion. Some of it for me Brandon also comes down to probability. I agree with everything Brian said wholeheartedly and it's how you prepare mentally, physically,

emotionally, agree completely. And there's some of it's just probability. Honestly, like if it happens once it's a fluke, if it happens twice, it's a pattern, if it happens three times, that's just who you are. And I just don't I don't think that that's who Marcus Freeman is. And I also don't put rice on the same level as Marshall and I you I get the stigma right G five team coming from a not even like one of the American conference is pretty solid. But you know the stigma around the Mac and things like that. It's rice in my eyes and watching them on film is closer to Tennessee state than they are like N.I.U. So I don't see it happening. But some of it just comes down to probability. If you haven't learned by now going through what you went through 22 24 maybe it's just some fluke crazy dumb stat that's like in even numbered years Marcus Freeman loses to a G five team at home. Like I have no idea what it is. But some of it's just probability and I just don't see it happening. I'm going to it's going to frustrate you but I'm going to pull this to part up because

we have to respond to it because we were just talking about this. Okay. From Charlie Weiss last belt loop Hey coach in response to what you said I think where many fans were taken back we kept hearing the hype CJ will win the Heisman or be the favorite. Then you saw the game plan and it's easy to that this is nowhere near Heisman numbers. Again this is a this is an emotional response not a practical response. I would just like to point some matter of what well I'm asking a question Trevor who won the Heisman trophy last year. Fernando Mendoza. Who they play in their first game of the year last year. Old Dominion Colton. How many points did they score on offense in that game 27. Fernando Mendoza went 18 of 31. 193 yards zero touchdowns zero interceptions he rushed for one touchdown on 33 yards. So you just say that's nowhere near Heisman trophy level numbers. I just watched the Heisman trophy winner throw for less than 200 yards against freaking

old Dominion. I also watched that Heisman trophy winner in a game against UCLA pass for 168 yards. I also watched him in a game against Purdue late in the year go eight of 15 for 117 yards and average 7.8 yards per attempt against Purdue. Last game of the regular season and you know what he still won the Heisman a couple weeks later. You know why because he did better in some of the bigger games. Yeah, through for 222 yards against Ohio State one touchdown one pick against Oregon. He went 20 of 31 for 215 yards one touchdown one pick. So you guys Joe Burrows not the only standard for what stats look like for Heisman trophy winner. You guys get that right. And he even didn't even like the world on Byer against Auburn. There's a reason why that game was 23 20. Look right. In the last Heisman trophy winner that one in week one. Thank you. Who is the last guy? Anybody in the chat? Anybody on the message boards anybody on X anybody on YouTube? Who is the last Heisman trophy winner to win it in week one?

Like in the same vein we can't talk about how nobody played nobody in week one and week zero. And then also talk about how CJ car isn't going to win the Heisman because he didn't throw for 592 yards six touchdowns and have a perfect pass rating in week one. We can't play both sides of the coin. I've said this all off season all off season on top of quoting that he was the Heisman favorite on fan duel to win the Heisman trophy. I said he's going to win that game on the win the Heisman trophy on October 17th November 7th and November 21st. I just I don't know how much more black and white that can be. And the last I checked Notre Dame did not play Wisconsin on October 17th November 7th November 21st. That's what it is. Nobody wins the Heisman trophy. Nobody wins the national championship. Nobody wins a bowl game in week one. And I think the sooner we can understand that as a fan base is college football fans and I think we're going to be much more satisfied with what Notre Dame did last Sunday.

I'm not going to sit here and predict what Notre Dame's wide receivers are going to do against Miami because they didn't combine for 275 receiving yards against the defense. That was bailing and dropping back into cover for for 58 of the 60 minutes. Like that's just an unrealistic ask. Yeah. I've no idea what it's going to look like. I don't know what it's going to look like tomorrow. It's all an ongoing evaluation something else. That's the whole point though. This is just an incredible dramatic overreaction. Now if CJ Cargo's out there and throws for 239 yards of game. So that's not Heisman trophy caliber. Hey, Trevor, do you know how many yards per game that Fernando Mendoza averaged last year? Probably around that if not less. 220.9. Oh, there we go. Notre Dame covered against a solid big 10 team by and one by four touchdowns. CJ Car didn't turn the ball over. Through for 239 yards should have been 256. He had a great ball called off of a bogus penalty through two touchdown passes and we're complaining

because he didn't put a Piesman numbers. It's just reality just categorically false that he didn't put up Heisman numbers. It's just it's just categorically false. You know, like just and I don't have to point to well, you know, back when so and so when the Heisman back in 1992, you know, he had a bad first game. No, I'm last freaking year. Look, if somebody puts up Caleb Williams number, CJ Car has no chance of one Heisman trophy. Who cares? I care about CJ Car leading the national championship and I think this this idea that that voters are going to be more swayed by CJ cars, you know, Archmannings performance against Texas state where he threw for more yards also threw a pick, by the way, Archmannings going to win or lose the Heisman by what he does on Saturday against the buck eyes.

CJ Car is going to win or lose the Heisman by what he does against BYU Miami and SMU and you know what, even if he'd have thrown for 400 yards on Sunday night, no one's going to give a crap about what he did against Wisconsin in week one if he doesn't play well in those games. Just like no one's going to care that he only threw for 239 yards in week one if he rips up those teams. It's it's it's I don't even know what we're having this conversation like like in the whole of premise is based off an emotional response. It's not at all based on actual facts. No doubt. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And see Murphy says, do you think the Heisman means as much anymore if you're like it's lost to slow? It certainly lost it's lesser to me. But it is still impactful in sport. You know, you win the Heisman trophy that matters. You're selling that on the recruiting trail. What does matter in those regards? It still does carry some some sway.

I don't care as much about it anymore. It doesn't mean I wouldn't be pumped to see a Notre Dame player win it because if a Notre Dame player wins it, that means Notre Dame is a really good top 14 because there's no way CJ cars going to win it if Notre Dame's 10 to two. If CJ cars through for 4,000 yards and 42 touchdowns and Notre Dame was nine and three there. He has no chance on the Heisman and you know what, if he did win the Heisman and they went nine and three because he threw for all those yards, I still wouldn't care because he went nine and three. He goes 12 and 0 and it doesn't even finish in the top five. I don't care. But the point that I'm responding to is I just think that entire premise is just wrong because I just pointed out how last year's Heisman trophy winner had one touchdown in 190 something passing yards against old dominion in a game where they scored 14 fewer points against old dominion than what Notre Dame did against Wisconsin. You know what I mean? And also scored more points than what Indiana scored against Wisconsin last year. And you know partly why Wisconsin played the way they did because of some of the things

that happened against like Fernando Mendoza last year. They took some chances to try to stop the run and it let him throw a couple balls over their head. So I just, anyway, I love you Charlie. I'm not going to waste his last belt loop, but I just think that that's and the the the frustrating thing is like you can have the opinion you're going to have, but at some point in time, you either like we're just going to have to agree to disagree because it you guys know this is one thing that kind of does frustrate me for people that have been on the site long. You guys know if there's a problem, I will have no problem talking about it. If there's something that goes on in the game, I have no problem talking about it. If what we saw from the past game on Sunday night was like, dude, I think some we need to be worth. I would tell you. And if we're having the same, some of the same issues in like week four or five, then then we can have the conversation. I'm not even saying that the things that people are freaking out about couldn't end up being an issue. What I'm saying is you should be freaking out about it after one game because you have

no context. You have no context because what you are in one game is not defined who you are because again, Indiana finished the regular season last year, second in the country and scoring offense. Correct, Trev? Right? Second in the country. They scored 27 points in the opener against Old Dominion. They scored 20 against Iowa. They scored 13 against Ohio State. 27 against you're going to have those days. Texas scored almost 50 points a game in 2000 or LSU scored almost 50 points a game in 2019. They need it. They only scored 23 in a win over Albert. You're going to have those days. That's my whole point is and I understand when you don't play lights out in the opener, that's all the data you have. But you know, like we need to take a deep breath and remember just because you predicted to win 50 to nothing doesn't mean that was reasonable or rational. Every game day you show up for your team.

From Patty Fitz, do you see Brian Kelly having a job next season? IE Rutgers, Boston College, possibly Florida State. Of the three, maybe Florida State, and then you get into the bit conversation. We said yesterday, Brian Kelly's next job is going to be like Kyle Wittingham-esque, like not somebody that's going to come in and he's going to be like a bridge head coach. He's coming in to help the program get his feet under him and do all of those things, not to lead them to a championship in my eyes because he has failed to do that at every spot that he's been at. So in the FPS P4 level, but he's done a good job at turning some programs around. Didn't do it at LSU, but point being, I don't think Rutgers or Boston College have gotten

higher than maybe Florida State to just kind of get their feet under him, get back to being like an eight-win football team. But then you start getting back to the, is he a fit down there? Like I just... It'd be more of a fit in Tallahassee than he would be in Baton Rouge, but it's still not be a great fit. Agreed. Yeah. Yeah. From 17-Semperified, do the coaches truly trust the wide receiver room when Notre Dame faces an eight-nine-man box. They don't shy away from running because they believe our dudes are better than their dudes if the... I don't have the rest of that. I don't know that they trust the receiver room or not as a whole. I have no idea. It's been one game. I know what I'm told and what I'm told is they absolutely do and they definitely trust Jordan Faeson. I do think there's a level of trust that's still has to be earned by Jaden Greathouse and Mylon Graham and Micah Gilbert. I think that's certainly fair. And I don't even if they'd have ripped up Wisconsin, I don't know that that necessarily changes that a whole lot. But there's certainly a level of, hey, we think the receiver room can do that.

But trust comes from what you do. And there's just not enough opportunities for what this group can do. I think with Jaden Greathouse, I think they trust that if you throw him the ball, he's going to get there. But how much do we want to build our offense around a guy that may not be here in three weeks because he's injured? I mean, I think there's... I don't know that they feel that way, but I'm saying like it would be understandable if they did. Mylon Graham is a guy that's got all the town in the world, but he's got a show that he can do it on game day. Saying with Micah Gilbert. So it's understandable to have some level of... Well, they've got some things to prove. I don't think they have a lack of trust in the receiver room to the degree that for some reason, notary any fans do, which I think is bonkers. Here's another one from Muhammad Abdi. Brian, do you think the lack of dynamic playmakers on offense puts pressure on Porter to be that extra receiver car can go to a critical situation? I think he has a receiver he's comfortable going to a critical situation. His name is for controlling phase on it. Like Muhammad, I love you, man. But I just disagreed with your entire premise. Maybe they don't have dynamic playmakers. You don't know that in game one. I just... Let me do some math here real quick, Trev.

I just want to point something out here real quick. Let me just... Let me look something up here real quick. Last year in the season opener against Old Dominion, I'm going to point this out because you know, the standard is teams that have won a championship. The top receivers for Wisconsin, Omar Cooper, Elijah Sharat and Charlie Becker combined with Trev for... See, five... Six catches for 100 yards and no touchdowns. Six catches 100 yards and no touchdowns. So basically, their big three essentially were matched by Jordan Faeson. Micah Gilbert and Jordan Faeson outproduced in their first game against a big 10 team what Indiana did in their first game. Did they have any problems with playmakers last year at Indiana on offense? But no. No they didn't. They're starting running back in that game, averaged 4.8 yards per carry.

Their second running back had a nice 36 yard gain on 17 carries on the other 16 carries he combined for 50 something yards. LeBeeBee averaged 73 yards, 11 carries, 6.6 per carry, his longest carry was 14 yards. They had one big play in the past game. Jordan name had more gains of 25 yards or more against Wisconsin than what Indiana did last year against Old Dominion. And Old Dominion team I'd like to point out by the way that gave up 48 points to Marshall in 63 points to James Madison later that year. And 26th of Virginia Tech who sucked. I think we are making some giant assumptions after one week. Now, I'm not saying that this might not end up being a problem. I think there's plenty of the receiving core in running back room has to prove. Anyone that tells you how to, oh no, this is going to be a group that's every bit as the lead is as what, you know, whoever it. I don't know that after one game. But I know that there's guys in the receiving core who maybe didn't do a lot on Saturday

night that have done things in the past. We've seen Anias Williams make big plays in the Orange Bowl. You've seen Jayden great house go over 100 yards in the in the in the Orange Bowl. And in the title game, I think we are thematically over reacting. If we're sitting here going into games five and six and the receiving core is not really making a lot of plays outside of phase on in the running back room still can't rip off anything longer than 16 yards. Then okay, let's have a conversation. But you want to know the reason why Nerdy didn't rip off any long runs on Saturday. It had basically zero to do with the Notre Dame running backs. I just disagree with the entire premise and I think we are way too early in this conversation. Let's give them more than like a game where they by the way covered a 20 to half point spread by a full touchdown that maybe we're over reacting a little bit. Let's let them play a few games.

And then if we're still having the same issues, then we can address I'm not telling you that you are wrong. I'm not. I would be saying the same thing if somebody was like because we beat Wisconsin by 28, you know, get our ring sizes ready. But hey, pump the brakes a little bit brother like they should have won that game. Yeah, they won by 28. The spread was 20 to half. It's not like they beat a good team by the 28. A game they were favored by three. You know, like beating USC in 2017, 48 to 14 men, a whole lot more to me than beating temple by a comparable score. Right? So the extreme of a reactions on either side are like guys, it's one game. And I'm getting frustrated, but it's like I have to questions in the chat are like, are you worried about this? You know, I'm not. It's like, it's one game. Yeah, John A1, after playing multiple run and option run teams, can we expect some

rust and past coverage in late September games? No, no, John, I like where his question's coming from. I think that makes sense, Trevor, but I actually think playing teams like this actually forces you to be more locked in as a past defender. As you are facing so many like double moves and post snap switches, like no, you're not being thrown at as much, but they try to do some complicated stuff that forces you to be locked in. So I don't know that I'd say I'm, I'm, I'm all really concerned about that. I think if I'm concerned about anything, it's the fact that by the time they get to Miami, they just want to play a very good receiving core. The two best receiving cores are going to play are going to be November 7th and then two weeks later. So we looked at a couple receiving cores that might be a little bit improved. We'll see, maybe North Carolina gives them a little bit of a look. We'll see what BYU has after playing more than one game. So I think there's some things that we could look at and say maybe they'll get some tests.

But it's more so if I was going to be concerned about it, I'd be saying you're going from what they're going to play the first seven eight games to what they're going to play against Miami. That could be a challenge, but I would argue that Miami's going to have a very similar challenge with some of the things they're facing. Their team plays a whole lot before they face each other on November 7th. Every game day you show up for your team. Now it's your time.
