President Trump has provided dramatic details on how the U.S. military scrambled to rescue
two members of a fighter jet that was shot down deep inside Iran.
In Pierce Gregg, my reports both are now safe and recovering from their injuries.
The president said 21 aircraft took part in a risky daytime mission to rescue the pilot
of the downed F-15.
Reaching the second crew member was even more harrowing.
Trump said 155 aircraft were involved.
Many sent far from the airman's actual location in order to confuse Iranians trying to capture
him.
The president said the Air Force Colonel was badly injured, but managed to reach a mountain
crevice well away from the crash site.
When he was rescued, two planes were waiting for him at a makeshift air strip on a farm.
But the planes were stuck in wet sand.
They were then blown up as lighter planes were called in to fly the Colonel out of Iran.
