A man opened fire at the Washington Hilton and the nation's capital Saturday night as

President Trump and other administration officials were waiting for the start of the

annual White House correspondent's dinner.

He was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.

As he ran through that checkpoint, members of law enforcement from the United States Secret

Service intercepted that individual.

As Jeffrey Carroll, the interim chief of DC's Metropolitan Police Department, Trump

and many other officials were evacuated after the shooting began and none of them were injured.

But President Trump says one law enforcement officer wearing a bulletproof vest was shot

as he responded to the incident.

He was hit in the vest.

Trump says the officer is doing great.

The alleged shooter was quickly taken into custody and PR's White House correspondent

Deepa Schifram has more.

President Trump and administration officials briefed reporters after the shooting at the

Hilton Hotel in DC.

He was shot from very close distance with a very powerful gun.

Trump shared that at first when he heard the gunshots, he thought it might be a tray falling.

Trump praised law enforcement for their quick responses to the shooter and said the event

tonight, though disrupted, brought people together.

He also said he wanted the event to continue into the evening, but instead it will be postponed

for a later time.

President Trump Saturday canceled plans to send two U.S. negotiators to Pakistan for

peace talks with Iran this weekend.

The decision came after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakshite left Pakistan Saturday

morning.

He'd been in Islamabad for talks with senior Pakistani leaders.

Iran, meanwhile, began to open its airspace to domestic and international flights on Saturday

that ends a more than 50-day suspension of flights after the U.S. and Israel attacked

in February.

Durib Eskorin reports from Istanbul.

For weeks now, Iran's land borders were the only options for people to leave the country.

In Turkey, they would then catch flights from a small regional airport and continue on

to international destinations.

In a statement, Iran's national carrier, Iran Air, said it would resume flights to five

international destinations.

Istanbul, Baku, Doha, Najaf, and Baghdad.

Iran Air's first flight from Tehran landed in Istanbul's Saturday morning, as well as flights

operated by private carriers, Maraosh Airlines and Mahan Air.

Officials in Ukraine say Russian drone and missile strikes on the city of Deneepro Saturday

killed at least five people and wounded 46 others.

The bodies of four people were found in the ruins of a house that was destroyed overnight.

And to the southwestern part of that country, two people were wounded in overnight drone

attacks in the Odessa region.

All of the attacks followed a prisoner swap that took place on Friday.

The famous Rocky Balboa statue in Philadelphia is moving indoors to be featured in a new exhibit.

The city's museum of art is launching rising up, rocky in the making of monuments.

The exhibit comes ahead of the 50th anniversary of the original film's release this fall.

NPR's Elena Weiss reports.

The statue is instantly recognizable.

A bronze Rocky Balboa, portrayed by Sylvester Stallone, raising his hands above his head

and a show of triumph despite the odds.

The fictional heavyweight champion has become one of Philadelphia's most famed figures.

And his statue, standing atop the museum steps, is a sacred pilgrimage for fans.

And in the 40 years since it was first unveiled, this is the first time it's been brought inside the museum.

The Rocky exhibition will feature over 150 pieces of art for more than 50 artists.

The museum described the statue as part of the city's quote, civic and cultural identity.

The exhibition will run through August 2nd.

Hungary's outgoing Prime Minister said Saturday he will not take his seat in Parliament.

Viktor Orbán lost in an overwhelming landslide election earlier this month.

In a video statement Saturday, he said he will now focus on rebuilding his nationalist political community.

Orbán lost to a center-right challenge who promised to end corruption in government.

King Charles will be in Washington, D.C. on Monday.

He hopes to strengthen ties between the two countries and celebrate the 250th birthday of America.

His visit will include a commemoration of the September 11th attacks and a tribute to fallen service members.
