1:01A summit meeting of a group called BRICS is taking place in New Delhi. It includes Iran and several Gulf nations who are now at war. In July, US authorities arrested 47-year-old Nazira Haji Zada in Texas for allegedly supporting an ISIS-inspired terrorist plot. Haji Zada came to the US in 2018 as a legal permanent resident. Last year, her son and son-in-law were convicted of plotting an attack on Election Day, 2024. US authorities say Haji Zada worked to quote, radicalize her family. Instead of bringing charges against her for the first time ever, the Justice Department brought her to the alien terrorist removal court, created in 1996. Haji Zada waved her rights to challenge the tension and agreed to the deportation. In a statement today, South African police say that Nigerian nationals who are handed over to FBI agents at a South African airport are alleged to be members of the Black Axe-organized Criminal Network. According to police, the extradited suspects are alleged to have targeted scores of women in the US and defrauded them of more than $6 million through online scams. Black Axe grew out of a student fraternity in Nigeria, evolving into a violent criminal organization. In July this year, Nigerian authorities said they arrested several suspects in Nigeria after foiling what they described as a celebration to mark a Black Axe anniversary for N.P.R.
