You said it's only the Panthers or Roosters, but you're telling us there's only two halves that can win the comp, and that's the Panthers half and the Roosters are... ..you're writing all them off, and other than can win a comp. Right, that's why I picked those two teams the first. OK.

4:04But now you're saying the halfbacks are now good, like Tommy Deden's won a Wally Lewis medal mate. If he was playing in the Roosters, I'd say he's a good and a good player. No, you just said halfback. I just said I don't think they can win the comp this year. Do you think the Cowboys are going to win it? No, no, but I'm not saying Tommy Deden can't win it. Well, the halfbacks are the key in this, and that's just like I've been out of the ball in the game. What do you think, Luke? I've got it right. You know what, Doug? I think you're under something. 6:04I'll tell you the why tonight. The trail. We know he's a big player. Are you looking forward to what he's going to bring this weekend? He has played a lot of football so in the last couple of months. So I'm the expectations are not I. I just want him to do his job and have the presence that he has. And he's got the all out that. So that's all I'm asking him for. Nothing special. Guffie at fullback was that always the plan? I wasn't the plan, but that he's his best option there at the moment. Now, Cours, do you think you're teaming outside the top four because we're in the Premier League this year? I'm not saying the rabbit-o's can win the Premier League. What I'm saying is that Wayne Bennett knows how to win it from outside the top four, right? Because everyone says all the time and it's all we ever hear. You can't win the comp from outside the top four. And I know it was a different system in the day, but in 1993, they won it from fifth spot. And even though it was a top five back then, you still had to win four games in a row. And the Bulldogs, as you know, did it in 95. So what I'm saying is the time will come... Where it happens again. ..where it happens again.

7:04And I think what Wayne said then about his team, you can't ask them to do what they're not capable of doing. Sounds at the moment, LaTrials won game back, you know what I mean? They're lacking some middle forwards that some of the other teams. They haven't got a standout halfback. But I think Bennett knows how to give them the best chance of being their best. I agree with that. And you spoke about the emotional rollercoaster and toll potentially of last week. But I also think Wayne knows how to galvanise his team with moments like that. And while everything we've seen with Joy this year has been so genuine and real, I also think Wayne has been able to use that to bring the squad closer together. And that's one of the arts of him as a coach. Whether South can win or not, well, I think we've seen all the way that they can play 30 good minutes and then 20 bad minutes. So that's their... Where do you have them? You've watched them closely.

8:04And they have good form, very good form going into the finals. Where do they sit on your in terms of winning a prize? I've got them exactly what you just said, Cruel's. We've seen them out their best, been able to blow some teams apart in 20, 30 minutes. But I feel like over the course of the final series, their true colours were shine. And that's defensively their leaked points at time. And sometimes they've struggled with their attack. I feel like you're walking your final series and probably come back to your point a little bit dog, but they're an unsettled spine. Right, Duff DeGroat at the back is kind of chopped and changed, Bud Sullivan now in at half back. Cody's been a regular brand and Smith's been in in the out. He won't play 80 from through the final series. It's not a settled team. Wayne might be able to get him up for one or two. It will be extremely difficult for that team. Over the course of it, and Wayne's... I've been openly said that we're two inconsistent this season. It shows. In the big games in the high pressure moments, it'll come out of them. It's not even inconsistent in terms of games. It's during games, Southspeaker, I'm actually quite inconsistent.

9:06Look, winning four games at the elite level, it's just too much. I just don't think any cyclist might have found the top four. There's a reason why it hasn't happened, Kruels. It's just too bloody hard. Let's have a look at the rubbettos that are coming off contract November 1. And it's a big list. They caught me off guard when I saw it today. I saw Mitchell, Tarris Duncan, for feeder, Campbell Graham, White and Walker's off contract, already. Brendan Smith-Ollisco is on their superstars, right? They're top-shoff. Top-quality box office players. Is any concerns around this? So many players coming off? Not for the final series. I mean, moving forward here for the ball. I think Sousa are at a stage now where, you know, some tough decisions will be made. They bring in Latreol to the club. Xavier Willison, Sousa might be looking at him. There will be decisions to be made. The one bloke, I think, probably ends up being a non-negotiable on that list level. But at the top of the list, I can't see Latreol going to another club, you know? And people will say, well, he's not earning his value.

10:08And often injuries and everything else has held him back. But Benad has also been a coach over time where he knows the sort of players he wants there. And he's been going to be open that you need to win a comp. And a good example was about four or five years ago when Shane Richardson was the boss at the club. And Shane Richardson wanted to keep Adam Dewey, right? And I think Dewey at the time, they could have got him for 600 grand. And Cody wanted, I think, it was probably eight or 900 grand. And Benad went in and he made the executive decision. We need to win football games. We need Cody Walker. And that's what he's about, you know what I mean. That's what winning football games in this bloke can win football games. I think you're really side for sure. And I think he sued Sous and Sous suit him and Wayne the same. They've got a combination of partnership and relationship. And I think he loves it there genuinely to playing there, but also he loves it off field. If they lose though this week, does it check?

11:11Because they're going to wait to see how he come through his injuries and how he finished his season. Does that change? I don't know, I don't know, but I love the show. I played with him, stood next to him for three years, considered him a really good friend. With Sous Sydney, you're 1769. If you don't have quality there, you cannot win a competition. It is too hard. You can carry maybe one. You can have three really good ones and you can carry one. You can't carry two or three. They need to sort out their 1679. Matt Duffty, who's been over in Super League, young Ashton Ward, who's a very young heart, that needs to be their priority, not their centres. They've got Jack and Enlattrill, terrific players, two of their highest paid players. I feel like your money should be in your spine. So you thought that stuff? That list there, right? There's big money at the top of that list. You think they should sacrifice one or two of those players and really hone in on a seven? I think they will. I don't know who it will be, but I think someone from that.

12:14And I think Wayne knows that. Cody, what, 36, 37 years of age? If he plays on next year, that will be it. So they have to look at that too, you know, as much as they need. They have to fill those spine positions. It's all well and good oven, buck rolls and centre-side. That's what they need, literal to aim up and to play more games. Because of the money he's getting paid in the centres, they are sacrificing a seven as we speak. They've chosen that. We'll abide then, we'll not know. It could work. They could win the comp this year and, you know, it's a master's trope. But if they go out this week or next, it's a big question mark. What they do move in forward. It also gives them the power, doesn't it? And he also gives them the attitude and gives them the swagger. No other player, I don't think, can give them that. The question we've discussed in this show before is, what price does the troll resign for? I think Readysat there be four and said 1.4.

13:14I don't think I could pay the troll 1.4 at the moment, given these injuries. But with the number one on his back, he can. But he doesn't want to play that. And I know that's what he brought in there for. But, you know, anywhere around, maybe 1 to 2. At the right price, if he wants to stay, that's what you do. But they're also in a situation where Paine is coming next year. And there's a part of me that thinks you wouldn't want to set up set the apple cart too much too. You know, if players are all coming off contract, you might lose your shot. Yeah. Which, you know, if someone gets offside or if there's a few blokes they're worrying about their future, suddenly that opportunity that may be there. Yeah. I think that, not much, these are all November 1s apart from Cardi. They'll resign Cardi. So all these players are going to be there next year. I know what you mean, it could upset the apple cart a little bit. When you've got a window of opportunity to win a Premier League, you know that as a team has players too. You know, even if you leave and even if you've got to leave to win a comp. I mean, there's any of these guys won comps? No. Or will it drill?

14:14You know what I mean? So they're going to fight for it and they're going to want a matter of what. So it's going to be interesting. Now, Bomber, Badell is reporting that the Hema wants 1.4 million to stay at the dolphins or maybe somewhere else. Of course. It's a big price tag. We'll just tell him about before. The state of the game and I guess what's not out there is driving these plays to those price tags. Like, you just look at guys even like Sam. Well, you can't afford to lose them. Who are you going to go and buy? So yes, I think you do have to pay. If Hema's worth 1.1.2, you may have to cough up 1.4. The other side of it for me is they've got a guy sitting at the left centre who hasn't resigned yet. Who's probably worth around that mark too. Who has potentially said he wants that 1 jersey also. So it could be a little bit of a collision course. Can I keep both? Can I keep both? Well, you got to sell one copper. What are they? They're a big chain. Boss stock. Fleggle. Could tell us off the following year.

15:14You're a million. But that's the decision that the pliers have to make. Don't they? If Hema wants 1.5 and he wants to play for a competitive team, who out there, if he doesn't stay at the dolphins, can afford that type of money to keep him? The roosters, I guess, Teddy. So if you want to play in a top-shelf term like the Panthers, you can't get that absolute top dollar that's... I think it's the most take pay cuts. Yeah, sacrifice money to win a comp. Which is where the dolphins are as a roster, aren't they? They've just emerged as a top. He's a roster now. And similar to CS, not as bad or as many players here. Off contract November 1, the Hema, Farmworth, Bostock, even. Cobbow, Flegla, Finif, Fooyaki. The list goes on there as well. That's pretty significant. Who are you prioritising there, kids?

17:16We've seen it with Penreth. Like, you just have to shed those guys. And usually there's the same thing to come back to CS. It's usually those outside backs and edgefords and things like that, which you let go first. We saw Stephen Crockett and Matt Burton, Billy Ami Kicker. It's those guys you go. Like this man on screen, he's going to want to get paid. He's next one. He's now... He'll probably be the Australian winner or centre in the World Cup. Cobbow's... I think Cobbow's the type of player who stays for a bit less, knowing his in-brewsman, his nearies family, he doesn't really want to come to Sydney. It's guys like Finif, who we are. You just said it though about Sassmate with the spine and where you have to have your money. But with this mob, you're right about Bostock. He needs a big pay rise. Herb is there. Hema's there. Selwyn's there. And then you got Cataw or the following year that's off contract. Which they'd be thinking about too, right? Like, is he going to have to up the air there as well? Is it broken? You said quite rightly before that players, if you want to win a comp, have to take...

18:17Some players need to take a pay cut. With all due respects, I don't think the current player thinks like that. Yeah. I think we have to go back in time for when you're at the Bulldogs, or the Great Mally era, and they took pay cuts. We got done for the salary cap. Kit the other comp. We all took pay cuts. We had to stay there. We wanted to stay together, because we knew the window was right then. We won a few years later. That was a different time, a different era. I don't think today's player accepts that. I think they want to get every penny out of the game. I've got no beef for that whatsoever, but I don't think anyone in this current day and age, and the attitude they've got toward money, will ask for a pay cut. It's honestly dog. Like, I'm just recent. It has only just changed this year, because of what we're seeing with people. Because it's in the tree early. But Penrith have done that in recent years. Have a day. Liam Martin is now coming off contract, and he's at that stage of his career, where he's done everything at Penrith, and he's entitled to move on if he wants to and get that top dollar, but Penrith have sacrificed. It's only the emergence of PNG and the bears that has completely changed the game.

19:20Everyone wants a million bucks these days. It's a starting point for every player, isn't it? We read it every day in the newspaper. I want a million bucks. He wants a million bucks. It's just now the starting point that goes off the one million. It starts at a million, and it turns into a blow-up. How does that happen? Let's move on to the West Tigers. Do you think that only Flano can save the Tigers? I saw that Paul Rodd-Johnny Morris got the bullet yesterday. Both, obviously, when a team is struggling, the perception is you have to make changes, and obviously the head coach is not going to go. Johnny's on his bike out of there. I feel a bit sorry for John, but when you're losing, it's got to be changes. And I think it's Shane Flanagan. I think Shane Flanagan, as a man that should come in at Concord, has a hard edge. He acknowledged the fact that it didn't go well at the dragons, but we know Flano's had success at the sharks. I think you'll bring the tough edge to hard edge. You'll kick a few butts there that need to be kicked. Are you talking as a head coach or a cistern under Benji? Sorry, I should have phrased that properly. I think you'd be a great assistant under Benji,

20:22and really put a few firecrackers where they might have to be involved. I'll be honest. I would be nervous if I was Benji bringing Flano into the club. Why? Well, for several reasons. Look, it didn't set the... Mainly, it didn't set the world on fire when Subs had him as assistant. They didn't set the world on fire at the dragons with some of the signings and everything there. He's managed by Isaac Moses and the history there at the club would make me nervous if I was the West Tigers. Like, there's several reasons. And I also believe, even though people think Benji needs a senior guy with him, he probably does. I think most coaches also want someone that they're not worried is going to take their job. You can't be that... No, you don't have to be that paranoid. The bottom line here is to get a coaching staff and compile the right people to get you to the top eight. Not worrying about whether you need a team to take them. He can't be the top eight. He can't be the top eight. No, but I'm saying he head coaches can't afford to be paranoid about who's coming through.

21:22But I think most people in life may... That's not necessarily about being paranoid. It's about having people there that you know are going to work with you not necessarily against you. And I'm not saying Flanagan's going to do that. But I'm saying Benji should have the right, in my opinion, to pick who he's staffer. Like, does anyone tell Craig Bellamy who would get these... Of course. ..and who aren't. ..just Robbo have to go through the club to hire an assistant coach or does he pick the bloke that he wants? I think that's different for a Benji Marshall two or three years in and a Craig Bellamy... Apprent Robinson way in Bennett. Like, I honestly think part of it needs to be taken out of Benji's hands and go, we're going to surround you with the best people. We think cinema is a subtle rather than letting a young coach... Because you can get over the fact that... ..you can get over the power, though, because if you strip the power away from the coach, he loses the power. And you see it with coaches when they come into the game and clubs try and overprotect them or make their decisions

22:24and ultimately made it strip... I've seen it so many times over the years, it strips the coach's power. But in coaches course... If you want him as your head coach, he's the bloke that should be making the decisions. Otherwise, he's not your head coach. In my defence... I don't think Benji, with all due respect to Benji, has the runs on the board to be demanding who comes in and who doesn't. It's up to the club to say, we think this bloke will work. The club... ..and you have to work with him. The club... The club just gave him an extension until when was it? The end of... 2030. 2030. Who's making these calls, Bulldog? Because usually in a club, the G... ..like, you got dusk at the Bulldogs. Those are the guys that are making that decision with the coach. He's got Pat Riches there, one of his mates in the General Manager of Foodie Roll, who's not experienced either. Who's actually... Who's the top guy who's the greatest striker? Who's the greatest striker? I've seen him at his men. Sure, Milan camp would be involved. Pat Riches, I'd imagine. You know, Benji should be involved. I'm not saying he should be excluded from negotiations.

23:24But I don't think he should have the final say. He should have said him as your long-term coach, and you're now telling him that, no, we think you need this and you need that. He even pointed the wrong man. He's the one that shouldn't have got the bloody fall for a year. He's the one that shouldn't have got the bloody fall for a year. But we're talking about a side of the 15th. If that's how they feel. What they're doing right now is working... It's not working. They won't have one of their last 11 games. I agree with you on that front. So the club's going to step in and say, look, we won one of our last 11. Step in last time and gave him a four-year extension, mate. I got a problem. I'll then make the right decision. Who makes it then? Benji. The holest bowlers. Well, I think while he's the first grade coach, you give him the power. That's what I reckon. I think you both make fair point now. When you set to go to the eels, is this a good guess? Who's reporting this? Brent Reed and Michael Curry, aren't us. Okay. Leave us right. I will. Knowing Spencer and speaking to him, it's news to him.

24:28Really? It's news to him that this is happening. So if he is to go, I think for Paramatter to great yet. Because that's where they are, where they are thin. Sitting here, I can't see the roosters really letting him go. Really? To be honest. Okay. Well, I mean, that's interesting coming from you who know Spencer. But, you know, the journalists do talk to a few people. Yeah, I don't know. You would know, if he's genuine about staying. Because that would surprise a lot of people in the game. Because the talk out there is that it's pretty much over the line. Right. And my concern when I look at Paramatter and the players that are going there is that most of the signings we know about or being spoken about smell of desperation to me. I think last year, and no disrespect to Jonah, was one of your players. But he was brought up there for one season to do a job and ultimately hardly got a go. And I know he had injury, but he was also shuffled to the side. So now, Volkman gets his go, but they've brought him in in on 700 grand, right?

25:32They've got Jaden Sewell as another one. Then we're talking about Spencer. And with respect to all those blokes, to me, it doesn't seem like Paramatter are working to a plan. Their plan is to just, we've got to get someone. And these are the sort of players that they're bringing in to the club. Well, Ralph is five of his life. Well, I'd be over years because he's had two seasons there and they're not going forward. And so next year he's into his third season. He is another year behind, beyond that. But if they don't fire early next year, there's going to be huge pressure, but I still don't see the sense in the signings they've made. Who was it said here last night and spoke about the fact that they want if they get Spencer, he's going to be playing longer minutes? Spencer didn't play longer minutes at Penworth, right? And when he went on to the market, I know for a fact that there was some recruitment people out there who have a pretty good knowledge, who their concern was that he doesn't play long minutes right. And he's gone to the roosters and he hasn't played long minutes at there for however many years. Yeah, he's right as well. So is he going to go to Paramatter and suddenly be that bloke

26:34that's going to play all those things? There's a lot of things to make sure. And you know, you look at Paramatter, they've missed some big guns and some scouts that haven't been out of track players at the club and then Lewi comes up and they grab him and then Spencer comes up and not sure if they have got him or not and they grab him. It does feel like they're just getting the Shawnee toy and there's not much competition chasing those players. The Lewi ones convenient, it's a one year, it's perfect and they go. But a lot of strategy's going to go on a recruitment, right? And planning and what you exactly need for your team to be successful in win a Premier League. It does feel a little bit like, okay, well, we've got to get them because we missed the last five. We're going to get him because we're short in the forwards and I don't think that necessarily leads to success. I think they're going to be good boys for them and I think they'll do well. But yeah, I don't know. It's a little bit of a concern, the strategy behind them. They've spoken a lot about the young guys they've got coming through, especially through the spine and through the middles. We've seen a couple of them this year. I agree with you.

27:35I think Rolls is under a lot of pressure and I think he knows he needs to win next year. And he's probably gone, just let me figure out next year. I know I've got these young kids. Hopefully they're ready by, you know, 12 or 18 months. Because he may not have a job. And then the young kid you had, because you might not be there to be the one to coach. And that's also why the recruitment has probably been the way that it is. I agree with you. I kind of agree with you. There's all that. Just to get him going for 12 months. You need a couple of recruitment big kills when you miss a lot of big name players. And then you know, you know, you need a couple of teams jump on your back a bit. So they need a couple of kills. And this is one of them. All right. Now, manly have put the broom through their football staff. What's happened here, doggle? Yeah, a couple of the boys have gone. Peter Gentles gone. Brickham, all he's gone. Brett struggled this year, sadly. I mean, we will remember, not he's been one of the all-time great halfbacks. But Manly's new softwiles cup won two games from 22 this year, which obviously further depletes Manly's ability to succeed. Yeah, it's obviously Kiran IV and saying.

28:37Now's the time of it, you know, really stick my hand up and go bang. Because, if I was he coming in mid season last year, he did want to upset the Apple card. I get that. But now this is his side. Kiran's going to start making some really tough calls. And, you know, first grade coach, you can be very difficult. You think Tom should move the center? I honestly do, but I love Tommy when he's done. I think for longevity, like you can keep saying, at his best, he's one of our best footballers. Yes, he is. But he just, he proven he hasn't been able to be able to stay healthy and fit. I still think he can be an absolute weapon at left or right centre for Manly. So who you got everywhere else? If he goes to centre? I think Fowl Olo goes to Fulbach. I think he's proven himself that he can handle it. And I think Joey Walsh is the one to take over Luke Brooks. When that naturally happens, I don't think he's forced that. I think Luke did a good enough job this year, but I actually like it. Kiran's been in for six months. He's got a really good look at that organisation, really good look at his staff. And a bit similar to that, he needs to have a say on who he brings in. Put some guys around him, and then the club has to put some older people around him too

29:40to help him, because he's come, what he's done. We haven't seen it in our game to transition that quickly out. When you look at their roster, they've got enough strike in the back. So it's already against the Warriors last week, right? To trouble every team. But they just haven't got the depth in the forwards. And so Kiran came in this year, and he took over a roster that Peter Jennell and Ceves had put together right. And even when you're talking about the reserve grade side, like they've constructed all this. Now he has to tear it apart. I reckon pretty much start again with a lot of the decisions at that club. This is where Kiran's going to earn his money. I think all their grades are struggling, aren't they? Like all through. Like they've got to put some money into their pathways and development. When I was a manager, that was a club that identified that just don't invest enough. I'm not going to get too critical, because I didn't get in amongst it enough. But you could just tell it was a difference there when dealing with merely. They don't put enough into that. And that's where it's come back to bottom.

30:41They've got no depth whatsoever. And they used to have a pretty strong pedigree of players coming through. I think Jason King, he's been brought into the dressing room. They brought a lot of the old boys back this year. And Estee Boyne, how much? And actually, when I came here, he realised they need to reconnect back with their grass. So you don't have any relationship with any of their junior clubs inside of it. I'm that old, I remember when Manly with the Kings of Poaching players from everywhere. They used to steal and win Premier chips. And they wanted silver towels for nothing. Silver towels and archa. Their last big kill from memory was being Kennedy in 2006. So the once powerful silver towels that bought who they wanted and now 20 years without poaching a big buy. And that probably comes back to you, Brace, saying, are there the resources there for those kind of players to want to go and join Manly? They also see appeals not as much as what it used to be. When Des was there and then tours afterwards, they're recruitment at that stage with the Stuart brothers and Jamie Lyon and Matt Eyre,

31:41all the different guys that they had, Watmo. They got the players and they developed the players. That seems to be what they haven't done. Although I've got to say, when you're talking about their halves options at the moment, there's another decision that's going to come. Like if you think, Fale O'Loe goes to full back and Tom goes to centre, will tour maybe happy with that? Will Turbo do that? Because I actually think Turbo, you saw in those games at the end of the year, how bloody he could he still is. And Fale O'Loe, when he went to 58, he was phenomenal. But then they've got Joey Walsh and they've got on a tiny large coming through, and you've got Foggyd that's got another two years to go. Big decisions to be made there. Manly, thank you, Crawls.
