They say you should learn something new every day.
Like how you should only drink Yeagermeister at zero degrees Fahrenheit.
Ice cold.
Like those frozen cavemen they find, which makes you wonder, what would a caveman think
of Yeagermeister?
Well, if you served it warm, he'd probably throw it in your face, say,
and storm off, and nobody wants that.
So drink it cold, or not at all?
Yeagermeister.
Damn.
That's cold.

But he tosses have thrown it out the door with their behavior this week.
They should be ashamed of themselves.
They shouldn't absolutely look at themselves in the mirror and wonder what the f**k they
have been doing.
They're f**king hissing at us, and calling us cheats in the Lord's long run.
And they have the f**k goal to say, talk to us about the spirit of cricket.
Absolute f**king bullshit.
There's a big appeal that's hitting him on the panties out.
Lions gone, you South Wales are knocked down on the Sydney Road, and hit a car.
Oh, I think it's hit a car.
What a way to bring up your 50.
All you want is to leave it all behind.
Now there is a simple remedy.
To stay fit for all eternity.
Oh, hello, everybody, and welcome back to Cricket Unfiltered.
I am Menners.
I'm recording this on Wednesday night.
And joining me from Melbourne is the man who I heard commentating on the shield on the weekend.
Damien Watson.
Damien, you're in fine form.
I tuned in to Victoria, South Australia.
Good stuff.
Oh, there were some things I wish I could take back to be honest with your men.
I know it's been a lot of fun.
I don't think it's always been a lot of fun, but I appreciate the kind of words all the the same.
I thought you were going to come out with something like a little bit edgy and I was planning to say in the words of Karen Green, why are you out to get me?
We are going to get to that.
There is so much to talk about.
And the sort of news I love getting stuck into because over in England.
Liam Livingston has made some comments about the current England setup.
We're going to get to that. There's a new New South Wales cricket coach
who has been appointed today, but he's been appointed in its controversy
and drama at the cricket central where the former coach Greg Shippen was reported to have
paraded past the boardroom several times with the Dean Jones Trophy.
After Lee Jermon said he couldn't win titles with New South Wales. So there is a lot to talk
about but let's just start. They mean where we left off last Wednesday because
when we were recording last week Tasmania was hosting New South Wales in the one day Cup Final.
But after we finished our recording, New South Wales went on to win the title.
They beat Tasmania by four wickets with 11 balls remaining. Tasmania were bold out for 118
in a 22 over game. New South Wales got there with 11 balls remaining. The hero for New South
Wales was Curtis Patterson. He made a 52-nod out. He was the leading run scorer of the tournament,
a significant contribution from him, a captain's knock and it was New South Wales 13th
one day domestic title. My little standout from the chase was Joel Davies. He had a breakout
BBL season and he came out and the required run rate was mounting and he hit 20 off 10 deliveries
and he's shown all summer he's captain cool and captain cool delivered again and New South Wales
after being written off by their own CEO wins a title. It was astonishing.
What's going on there at New South Wales men is your dad unlike New South Wales to have a
doubt themselves about anything I would say. But there you go. Well done on winning the title
all the same. All you blue supporters out there. Curtis Patterson I must say just reward the
re-game delivered a form in the shield last season and good to see he's shown on the biggest stage
in that one-day cup format given the season he had as you mentioned and it was a reign effect
the game of course as you would expect in Tasmania but yeah all credit to UCFIs it's interesting
the dichotomy menace between the one day and I suppose it's somewhat you know not a massive
surprise these days but the shield in the one-day format and I know they played at different times
and the app to try and work out the schedule work around things etc but the difference the stark
contrast between our teams and perform to the shift the shield and the one-day format.
Well I mean they're just different forms of the game and you can see he said oh yeah definitely
but I and I think you can see he knew South Wales they just peaked at the right time they what
they had to beat Tasmania in that last game they did it they found themselves in the final
and then they got two great inclusions in Ben Dwarfius and Sean Abbott who are you know
international calibre bowlers they took three wickets each Dwarfius three for 30 Abbott three for
25 and so they go on and win the title the shield I think you're different players doing well
I mean you South Wales only won two shield games Victoria won seven were dominant yeah so I think
it was a great achievement for this young new South Wales side and yeah the first title in five
years the first one-day title in five years and you know it's funny you know Greg Shippen at
the beginning of the season if you've said okay your job as coach you make the final of the big
bash you win the one-day title but you finished second-last in the shield would you take that
I think it's pretty close to a past mark Damien I know Shippen's been let go but
win the title another final and in the shield being just off the pace still that's pretty good
I agree having said that is it a case of what happened to Ant-Poster Coglu at Tottenham where
obviously they were very poor in the Premier League but still managed to win a title under him
in the Europa League and still got the sack you know there's the one-day cup hold a lot of
stead these days or a lot of significance because at the end of the day it's probably the least played
format therefore it's it's significance is somewhat eroded isn't it and and the shield I think at
highlights the significance of the shield and where that sits in terms of prestige and and priority as
well but yeah I just think Greg Shippen is a long and illustrious career doesn't he when it comes
to coaching at this level the domestic cricket and in various formats I don't know I mean there's
been a lot of turbulence around the decisions that are being made by New South Wales out of the last
five or so years and if the players I don't know you're closer to this than the mementors were the
players a little bit unhappy with the way he was going was it just a response and Egypt reaction
to what was happening is it just a hindsight type of thing it's interesting so I think there's a
feeling well Brad Hadden was appointed today and he talked about getting back to the New South
Wales winning way and I think there's been a feeling that maybe in the shield New South Wales
haven't been aggressive enough they've been a bit conservative haven't gone for wins in you know
in positions where maybe they could risk losing to go for a win they haven't done it and that's
where Brad Hadden came in today and said he's going to turn things around but I just want to sort of back
back battle a little bit so we had a couple of months ago lead you on announce that they were
moving on from Greg Shippard and then he's won the title then this week at Cricket Central
in New South Wales the Fiasco has kind of continued so two things happened firstly the Cricket
New South Wales board was interviewing the new candidate Brad Hadden for the job while Shippard
was coaching New South Wales in the final Sheffield Shield match of the summer at Cricket Central so
the New South Wales board and the new candidate basically walking past Shippard to conduct these
interviews so there definitely is an element of that that is disrespectful I think now the reports
I Brad Hadden is flying off to the IPL tomorrow and they had to sort this out before he left but I
still think there was other ways of doing this you certainly can't move you can't move the cricket
match but you could have those meetings somewhere else to make it a separate process and then they
fired two of the assistant coaches basically during the shield match the board brought the men and said
they won't be required next season Brad Hadden's bringing his team in it's going to be a new team so
you know that's not a very good way to end the season if you're that New South Wales squad
to have your coaches been fired six weeks ago have to stand there and watch the new candidate
being interviewed and then the assistant coaches fired mid mid match I think it's less than pleasing
the way it's been played been carried out and from all reports men as the players were very
unhappy with the way it was handled as well they thought it was very disrespectful to Greg Shippard
I just find it was like how awkward would it be when you did the middle of your job and but
ostensibly these people are covered into a place you are walking past conducting the interview to
get rid of you I just I don't know I'm just surely there's a bit of tax that says oh we'll try
and avoid that area while he's working yeah at the very least I don't know I just found that a bit
bizarre yeah so today Brad Hadden and Legion on front of the media they were both asked a number of
questions that Brad had never said he outlined a lot of the platitudes if you've heard him commentate
of you've heard him on his podcast it's all this intent getting back to playing the new South Wales way
I'm not convinced but I hope I am yeah that's what I'm saying like he hasn't started yet so let's see
how he goes I actually think he's taking over the side at a really good team at a really good time
Shippard has built this young side that they're actually learning how to win and I think he has
every chance of pushing them to succeed more and maybe his approach of being a bit more aggressive
and having a bit more intent his favorite word and cricket will pay off. Legion on was asked some
questions about the the process and the way this all carried out with you know Shippard being
let go did he regret the comments etc etc etc etc and Jamon you know he was quite impressive he
just said that he has great respect for Shippard but and maybe the process didn't play out perfectly
but is there a perfect process can this be done perfectly can you move someone on and and
Jamon also took ownership that it was a mistake to extend Shippard for two years last year that
maybe it should have been a one year extension and then looked at it after this season but my thing
is and I will preface here I do get employed by Cricket New South Wales sometimes in it so
you know I have some but I get some bias that's right but I will say that I just think the whole
thing has been handled pretty poorly and I don't buy this brand hands flying to India tomorrow
excuse these days would soon and everything I think Cricket New South Wales could have let the
season end and then announced they were moving on from Greg Shippard and then announced a new coach
and done it in a little bit more tactful and respectful manner but I also understand if you're
Jamon and the boards decided they're sacking Shippard in January you kind of got to come claim with
it then because it's probably going to get out so I think the whole thing has kind of been handled
badly you know I would think that these sort of reviews should be done at the end of the season
not during a season where these things can crop up maybe they felt they wanted to be proactive the
thing is though men as things have changed a little bit they've won a title they've earned a little
bit more respect do you think now if things had continued the way they were let's say you know
Shippard was still there and you do that review now do you think he keeps his job or is he not
done enough even if he's won that title well it's interesting we'll never know will we because
you're in a position would you say you deserve to keep his job well I think he does especially
when you take the shield and the one day cup into consideration but sorry the the big bash but
then you know Jamon said today that two wins in the shield's not good enough I agree it's not
that good but I just think the whole thing's been handled poorly I do concede maybe hadn't
is the right man for this squad at this time to just get them really moving get that belief going
I don't know but it's Shippard who is such a well respected coach has been such a terrific servant
for New South Wales cricket and a strength cricket just deserves slightly better treatment
out there enough I agree with that and well I think though there is a bit of optimism around
Brad had it in the sense that he is he is someone it seems like a bit of an extrovert doesn't
mean from the outside I think he can give them that bit of grunt and that bit of a competitive edge
New South Wales I think he'd be a good mentor in that respect for the younger players he's
spent a bit of time obviously in the media in recent times and I know he's he's had business
interests as well so be interested to see what he brings men as you know he's sort of he's
that not about type of bloke isn't he already does triple M radio with the cricket does a bit of
Fox cricket as well so be interested to see whether that carries across whether there's a
disciplinary aspect to him as well how will he go and the people management game it'll be interesting
yeah can he free them up a bit because he's always been a very aggressive carefree player when
he was on the field yeah so that's what happened out at Sydney Thunder but Sydney sent cricket central
cricket I love the image of Greg Shippard walking past the board I constantly with the Dean
Jones trophy Nick Savage reported that that's peak trolling I do love that um Brad hadn't
said he doesn't want to coach the the domestic T20 side so he doesn't want to coach the thunder or
the sixes so there are reports Shane Watson could coach the thunder Dan Christians in the frame for
that Matthew Mott is in the frame for the Sydney sixes job Ben horns reported today the James
hopes the former Brisbane head player might get the sixes job so it'll just be hadn't doing the
shield and then other coaches taking over the franchises another domestic appointment both
Caston has been appointed the WA coach for the next three years he was former New South Wales batting
coach but now I'm playing Ben assistant coach for Western Australia for the last six or seven
years but takes over from Adam Vodges what do you think of that yeah and well he's been in the
system for a while we discussed it I think briefly last week from memory yeah I could be wrong but
yeah I think it's a sound appointment given he's obviously been within the system I would
imagine he was he'd be respected by the players and would don't be known by the players he'd
know their strengths and weaknesses given they've made this appointment so I think it's it's
certainly a worthy one and it'll be hopefully for WA's cause a bit of a rebound after they've
had a bit of a slump after such success yeah absolutely Cameron Green so a bit of an incident
that was reported by Tom Deeson from the Sydney morning Harold Cameron Green made 135 for Western
Australia on the second day of the shield match and there was a message sent out to the New
South Wales media WhatsApp group that Cameron Green would be available at the end of plan the
third day to talk to the media Tom Deeson has reported that on the third day he went out there to
do that media spot with Green but then he was told that Green doesn't want to do the media anymore
the end of the third day then they Green changed his mind he was going to do it but there was
limitations put on the questions that you couldn't ask anything about the summer or the World Cup
just about this game and potentially that hundred and you only had a couple of minutes now I think
Tom Deeson was the only journalist out there for this interview and Deeson has reported that
basically Green didn't want to answer any questions that weren't specifically about WA in that
game and walked away muttering and saying to Tom Deeson why are you out to get me and then
both castings come over and apologise to Tom Deeson for what happened Green's gone and
jumped in his car and and headed off look it sounds like a bit of a storm in a teacup
they mean like Green obviously got the shits doesn't want to talk to the media maybe doesn't want
to talk to Tom Deeson but it is a sign that there's bigger problems for him that the snowball
effective pressure is getting to him yeah Greg that's a telltale sign that it is getting to him isn't it
still in cricketing terms relatively young man are they 26 year in adult by that stage well
and truly but I think in cricketing terms still somewhat young I think it'll be a good lesson for
him if he can weather this storm but yeah there's certainly concerns on our Greg chapel was very very
vocal on radio the other day talking about his concerns with Cam Green's technique and potentially
he's mindset as well so it'll be interesting to see whether he can get back into form but it's
obviously affecting him the pressure and I'm not entirely surprised by that I think you know a lot
of cricketers and sports people in general say they don't read what happens in the media I think
the vast majority of them probably do that is if you if you have to have a pretty sturdy bind
not to notice external noise and you put in you know when you're when you're not going for a great
run anyway yeah you're putting enough pressure on yourself as it is so I think it was just a case
and he's not the only cricketer to have done it just a case of him unloading on a journalist in
this you know instance obviously the wrong thing to do I don't think he really should be unloading
your steam on journalist you at the end of the day Cam Green's getting paid good money to play
cricket at various levels so you've got to be held accountable that's the price you pay in terms
of playing elite sport and getting paid very well you've got to be held account for your performance
we're all held to account for our performances and the various roles that we do in our own
lives minutes so this is no difference it's just paid out the more public space I don't think the
meteor are out to get him because the end of the day they've praised him when he's played well
that's the way it works having said that what do you make I don't move Hughes put out a tweak
just recently minutes saying you know it's interesting how a lot of Junos have been commented on
Tom Decent's behavior in that he was told not to ask you know questions outside of the shield
and yet he went ahead and did it anyway so that's interesting coming from the lens of an ex-player
what did you make of the exchange oh rubbish I mean Tom Decent's a great journalist they're rubbish
comments you know this is poor from green he should be in a good mood he's just made 135
is back in form first century since the middle of last year you know there's no reason for him to
be in a bad mood you know if you can't answer a few questions about the summer or the form in the
world cup then something's wrong because he's you right he's a contractor Australian player
he'd been given a days notice that he was going to front the media surely he's got enough media
training now even if he's asked a question outside what is expecting it can just palm it down
you know it's really happy to spend some time out in the middle put that you know period behind him
and you know I do think there was a bit of an there was a bit of there was a bit of feeling between
the Australian cricket team and the media in that last test at the SCG there were those comments
around George Bailey from Stuart Clark that seemed to really upset not just the Australian media
team but the actual Australian team from what I'm understanding I know Tom Decent wrote a report
where he quoted Stuart McGill and gave George Bailey an absolute whack so you know I do think this
Australian team keep the receipts I do think they know the writers that whack them and I do think
they're a bit of that came into that interaction where I don't think green wanted to talk to Decent
in particular that that's what I read into it yeah I think this at the end of the day though
men is if you're getting paid to play the game regardless of the pain I know how disappointing it
must feel when when you're going for a bit of a lean trope you're right you should have been happy
you're a century you know I think it's one of the things about society men as I think I know
I'm going to say I look an old man here but you got to own your mistakes and take responsibility
for them if you're in bad form like you know I made a couple of mistakes in commentary on the
weekend that I'm not proud of but and you take responsibility for it you know so it is what it is
you do something in the moment you play a bad shot in the moment you say it was a terrible shot
you know you explain the reasons why I think people are more sympathetic and I think you
can carry yourself better if you explain you know what you're going through a mental capacity and
cricket and how you're going to try and improve because we we all go through those things
100% and even if you don't want to be too you know open and revelatory about how you've been
feeling surely you've been trained enough to know how to just dance around answers pad talk a lot
and then times up you move on everybody's happy all right we're going to take our first break on
cricket unfiltered then we'll be back we're still deep in domestic talk because we have the
shield finalists have a few stats to go through the comments are absolutely popping off on YouTube
don't worry we will get to them and can't let it go at the end of the show but that means you've
got to stick it until the end and then we'll get to the comments so you know if you can stick with

back for month welcome back to the cricket unfiltered podcast I'm men as I'm with Damien Watson and
we're deep in the domestic news we've been out at cricket central so far to start the show
had the shipping controversy the had an appointment the green bus stop but just before we move on
from green Damien he did make a hundred and thirty five and you know it is the green problem
that he does so well in shield level the average is almost 50 at domestic level he's a you know
very very good shield play but a test level just can't translate that to test performances and you know
I'd like to see him you know probably batting number six in the side consistently and bowling and
maybe we don't ask as much of him as we've been trying to ask in the last few years don't try
and turn him into a three or four top-order player I think you know that number six spot really
looks good for me for him if he's in form and maybe it's when bowwebs don't retire maybe bowwebs
just leap ahead of green but yeah this hundred didn't answer many questions because we know he
can do it at this level yeah I think ultimately though men as hopefully it can be a bit of a
confidence booster for him sometimes you need that century to turn things around we've seen
players in the past that go through a bit of a trough and you sometimes need a confidence boosting
knock you're right historically he's played well in the shield and as it always well hasn't really
translated the same consistency at international level but he's a bit older now hopefully he
gets himself physically sound don't forget he's had his injury travails over the last couple of
years maybe this could be a bit of a turning point for him mentally and hopefully he learns a bit
from the exchange with Tom Veeces as well you know not to let him so get carried away and worry
about externe all the ways as much as he he has been so he's got an opportunity this year hopefully
coming into this summer he can he can continue his consistency that's all you can do really
oh absolutely a hundred percent I still think he's a very good cricketer but maybe we've just
got to let him be in all rounder that averages you know between 35 and 40 and also takes
wickets and you know if you've got someone at number six who can do that then you've got a seriously
good player but now we head over to the IPL the most expensive player international player ever so
lots of pressure on him to perform so I'll be keeping a watch on that very very closely all right we
have a Sheffield Shield final your Victoria Damien hosting the defending champion South Australia
so the shield ladder ended Victoria on top South Australia in second spot and then Queensland
third Tasmania fourth New South Wales fifth and w a in wooden spoon position again with just
one win from that Queensland were eliminated pretty early in that last round of that men
Osman Kawajie's first class career came to an end he didn't play in that last game because of
the birth of his third child he would have played in the shield final so no more first class cricket
Osman Kawajie played 229 first class games almost 16,000 runs and an average of 43 so fine
career you know he had his send off in test cricket so I don't think it matters too much that he didn't
get a first class send off he got a a beautiful send off at the SCG and you know he could go into
retirement now you're very proud of his achievements at both tests and domestic level and I saw
some photos of emitters after the last game he ended up playing at first class level for
Queensland there were these kids and and just hugging him around these cricketing year etc so I
think that was a nice simple send off probably given the amount of you know the vocal narratives
surrounding him over the last two years it was kind of almost an antithet you know it's almost
a contrast to what we've seen with Osborne because there was a lot of talk about each place
of the site etc it was kind of not I reckon it was probably kind of nice and away for him to go
quietly into the sunset from a first class level and congratulations to him on the birth of
his third child as well excellent excellent all right so Osman Kawajie goes off into the sunset but
the Sheffield shield continues just looking at the ladder Damien I think they have to change
this point system I hate this point system I hate these bonus points so basically the bowling side
gets a weak point one of a point for every wicket so if you get all 10 wickets in 100 overs you get a
point and if you're batting and you score over 200 you get 0.01 of a point for every run over 200
I think it's ridiculous I think it makes the ladder look ridiculous I think it's alienating for
the fans if you're a casual fan you just don't know what's going on I think they need to go
back to a system where maybe it's six points for an outright win and four points for a first innings
win and let's get back to playing normal cricket not I think the point system is also affecting
the the way the pitches are prepared the way teams play and just from a fans point of view like no
one understands it yeah well I was struggling to understand I remember I was with Patty Dooley and
we used AI men as jury the call to try and keep track on how the points were going jury the call
of the Boria South Australia games seeing our Queensland were going it ended up being simple in
the end because Queensland performed somewhat poorly against Tasmania but you know you had to try it
was it was complicated very complex even for we followed cricket minutes so yeah I would like
to see a more simple format as well you know in the same way you have a set criteria for a bonus
point make it simple and maybe make it based on the M result rather than what happens to the first
first couple of days potentially that way it's just a simple format certain amount of points for a win
certain amount of points for a draw I think you just got to keep it simple in this sort of scenario
because yeah yeah but into the season yeah 0.01 here you know just yeah it just became a bit too
complicated that to use AI yeah very very silly so but Victoria hosting South Australia we'll do a
full preview because I think the final starts next week and yes just at the end of the season I
thought it'd be good to look at the stats the stats so a lot of pop talk around the weak
batting stats this year so the leading run score was paid hands from 688 runs Cameron Bangkok in
second spot 674 runs the two veterans there Henry Hunt 667 runs then you got Sam Constance in
fourth position with 660 runs two half centuries and a century so Constance had an interesting
season Damien because you got a lot of stats didn't convert a lot of them but when you consider
he's a young man he came fourth in the leading run score played every game I think that's not too
bad for an opening batter and overall with with the context of these batting stats being so low
which has to be due to the pictures then Constance probably had a pretty good year and there's some
probably hope there for fans of Samy Kaye yeah but having said I agree to an extent but having said
that matters you got to put it into the context of the fact that you know it was a probably a
lower scoring season with that have happened 20 years ago we're a player who got starts on a
consistent basis but couldn't necessarily convert into massive scores on a regular basis being
the top four I just think these pictures were very difficult we saw it in the tests the result
pitches it's we discussed at the point system but you know they've got to adjust it because it's
it's bad for the game these pitches are juiced up there there's no draws every team's going for
a result and it means opening the batting is the hardest spot so I actually think you know you want
to scale up for Constance that's 660 that could be a thousand one year in any other year
Peter Hanscomb was addressing the media before the game against him off Australia and he was talking
about why that is why because at the end of the day was top of the leaderboard but why is it
difficult for players to make big scores and there was suggestion that you know the the lacquer
on the ball the cook of our ball was making some sort of difference but he didn't buy into that I
think he said it was predominantly down to the pictures and the way they've been playing
particularly you know I think there was a bit of a concern he was saying there was a bit of a
concern and effort you know particularly with what happened at the MCG about eight or nine years
ago in that boxing day test to try making a bit more of an even contest between batten ball because
he did have certain situations manners where there were roads you look at the junction oval that
was an example where traditionally that was a bit of a road and you were playing out draws a lot
of the time so and that's but that's where in the shield you you have a real disadvantage then
if you can't win at home you are going to struggle to make the shield final so it's infectious now
with the point system everyone around the country is producing these result wickets it's not good
for spin bowling because they don't get much of a look in and yeah it's disappointing yeah but could
you make the argument I think it's just about finding that balance because you can make the argument
when when you had situations where it was just a bit of a better form is that great for the game either
probably not and it's not that entertaining either so I think it's probably just going the other way
and you just need to find that mean middle ground absolutely so hands can bank off to veteran
probably not quite in Australian considerations, constants, yes, door and fift leading run score
probably not going to see him play for Australia, Sammy Harper bit of a break eight year opening
the batting if he could if he could do it if he starts off next season they won't be able to
ignore his form and probably the other one of interest the two other players of interest
occurred as Paterson 619 runs average of just over 36 with 200s and 250s you add to that his one day
stuff where 300s and a title you know he he should be there or thereabouts for consideration for
the Australian side whether it's opening with head or batting it three instead of minus I think
Paterson had a pretty good year and Jake weather ruled I only played seven matches but in the end
averaged over 40 with 562 runs and five half century so not too bad for weather ruled and paterson
and the other one Jason Sanger actually a lot of talk after last season how he would do this year
he ended up making 537 runs at an average of 35.8 with 100 and 450
wrench or the other player six matches 300s average just under 50 but missed a lot of games probably
wrench or is there probably the the smokey you know average 50 300s if I'm George Bailey that's a
pretty good season yeah it's right they seem to put him into the shorter formats or prioritise him
for the shorter formats as he's such a clean striker of the ball but he's also quite elegant
off the pads with these clips through a bit wicked which I think people forget
so I think you're right and he showed enough for Australia right as well in the middle of the
year so he's he's had a reasonable 12 months as of the after probably not taking the opportunities
when they were there in the last couple of years when we had these bad offs I know 23 24
at a reasonable season but then after that probably didn't have the same consistency
but yeah it'd be interesting to see if he gets more of a go at shield level what what he can
produce and whether he comes back into consideration what you can certainly say is no one has shot
the lights out no one has said pick me pick me pick me no one's piled on a thousand run season
and put an undeniable case in front of the selected I think a lot of players have sort of held
position and I think Constice is definitely for me anyway improved his resume I think that's a
really impressive season for a young man but no one has shot the lights out which will make the
selectors job even harder does Hanskin maybe push a case now the co-argers no longer around
see push a case to be you know in that four fifth position when they play in the subcontinent
because he tends to be a very good player of spin absolutely I think he's definitely
a candidate to go to India in 2027 next year definitely I mean Andrew McDonald was talking
about koazha going and sticking around for that so I think Hanskin certainly an option moving to
the bowling now the most wickets for the season Liam Hatcher new South Wales own 44 wickets at an
average of 19.84 really impressive season if he am he's a very good ball Cameron Ganon in seconds
spot with 42 wickets and then Corey Ruckicholi with 38 wickets in third spot but I have one concern
with this leading wicket takers list when I go down this list day me in there's no Lance Morris
there's no Joe Richardson there's no Xavier Bartlett where are the next crop of quicks can't
going to come from all the ones that are on the contract list that injured haven't been playing
so you know if there were you know another spade of injuries like last summer is it Liam Hatcher
Sam Elliott who's in fourth spot who come into the side yeah so that's my concern that everyone's
talking about the batting but you know we haven't seen a lot of cricket from you know as I said
Richardson Morris and co who were expected to be the next quicks well you just worry about
Morris getting injured again there was a talk that he was going to come back on a walk in
sister basis this summer and it just hasn't evacuated for him so just about him getting his body
right we know he's got the potential there it's interesting with Victoria mentioned Sam Elliott he's
been a bit of a boulder to a to a certain degree he wasn't getting a consistent place in the
shield side only 18 months ago mentors and now there's going to be talk and we'll talk about it maybe
next week about the Victorian selection for the shield final because you've got a few quicks
you got Elliott competing for a spot along with O'Neill and Mitch Perry who are all capable
quicks and it looks as if O'Neill got rested for that previous game and he's another one that
comes into consideration as well for further on as going for but you know there are there is a
little bit of talent there it's just whether it's going to be the same as the golden generation
that we've seen of a pace poll as over the last few years yeah absolutely I think there is talent
there but I just worry that those players that are hyped up so much aren't playing enough cricket
well that's it for the the the shield season they the 10 rounds proper now we've just got
the shield final to go I'm backing Victoria to do it at home there being so impressive
this season Chris Rogers has been building this team he's been shaping it these young players over
the last few years and this is the culmination of all that work so hopefully for your sake
Damien I'm going to go for Victoria for you Damien don't yeah I'd put the mirrors favorites given
there at home as well but wouldn't there be a great story of South Australia went back to back
and then they did it away from home as well and they found form at the right time of the season
to me and as they started off pretty poorly but I've come home with a bit of a wet sail so let me
be interested to see what happens in the final hopefully I don't know if we're going to get the same
attention as last year because they say we're obviously looking to break the title but hopefully
there's a decent enough crowd weren't many people particularly those last two days of the last
match that is a junction that more cricket is the the the crowd are you good all right well that is
it for the shield we're going to take our final break on this episode and then we'll be back two
bits of news from England I want to talk about a gag order and then a story that broke which makes
you wonder why which makes you realise why they did the gag order quick look at the 100 auction
then we've got caught let it go your little one grew three inches overnight adorable also expensive

while supplies last you're listening to cricket unfiltered I'm men as I'm with Damian Watson and
Damian it has all been kicking off in England so the the post ashes hangover was kind of delayed
in England because of the t-20 woke up everyone kind of held firm but things are starting to leak
out now so there was a story last week that the counties were told to cancel all the interviews for
ashes tourists or ECB contracted players in the lead up to the county championship season
there was a gag order basically put on the players I think show a busier was due to do an interview
at his county and then that was pulled at the last minute and there's a feeling that they want
all the England players to keep quiet until the review is done and Keesey and Richard
Richard Gould address what happened in the ashes and then the players will be allowed to speak but
I mean this is really bad Damian if you are gagging your plays you've got something to hide but then
but then we're starting to see why maybe they gagged played because Liam Limiston gave an explosive
interview to Crick Info where he laid into the cricket setup which which I'll get into Damian but
it never works putting a gag order in it's a bit like the Cameron Green thing surely these players
are professional enough there's a question they don't want to answer so if they are asked about
should basmicalum keep his job you can literally just say look there's a review going on I'm not
going to comment on that like it's very easy to you know soft you know play play straight
bat absolutely that's right and that does it does hint doesn't that there's a bit of tension in
the ranks more more there more secrets yeah because why why do you need to why do you explicitly
need to put it on you know maybe the propound to thing wasn't the only thing that happened maybe
there's countless incidents that we don't know about yeah you know but yeah it does it does show
there's a bit of tension there when they when they put a gag order on explicitly you know it just
well and I do wonder whether that creates tension in its own right because the players are thinking
what we don't you don't trust us to say the right thing or exactly so it started pretty badly
with that and then and then it got worse because Liam Limiston gave an interview to Crick Info
and he exploded on Keyes McCullum he described last year's tramp champion trophy as the worst
experience he's had playing cricket that he did not miss being involved in the race in T20
World Cup I didn't miss it one bit there wasn't any part of me that there was wishing I was playing
in that team to be honest and then he goes on to say Keyes he said nothing to him or Summer I
actually rang him one day and he said he was busy at a test camp and couldn't talk to me and I
didn't hear from him until the end of September based and then Limiston says if you're in you're in
and if you're not in no one cares about you he also says he when he asked the coaching staff for
answers he was told he cared too much that's the clanger for me Damien he cared too much I was asking
for help and pretty much all I got was that I cared too much and I knew to chill out a little bit
and everything will take care of itself for someone to keep telling you that you cared too much is
it's probably a bit way off the mark to be honest with what you go through and parents sacrificing
so much for years on end to get you to realise your dream when things don't go right of course
you're going to care if I didn't care then I probably wouldn't want to play the sport this is a
dam in commentary from a former England player who's just been in that squad who's been on the inside
of that squad the fish you know what is it the fish runs from the head or something I mean you
know this does not look good from a column in case and and this is well timed there's no doubt
Limiston knows there's a review going on I'm going to talk to Crick infoward spill the bands
yeah and he's probably is there an element of him there's a thing though he says that he
doesn't miss it well he obviously does miss it better because he's obviously angry that he's not
in it anymore and he wasn't given the proper feedback as to why he's no longer part of the
part of the brevard do you think that's what it is well absolutely absolutely he's got every right
to be bitter I'd be bitter in the same situation as well but yeah I think that's what's motivating him
to make these comments that's right but it sounds like he's been treated poorly I know in
Australia basically you can't call the selectors can't call every player that's not picked
they just can't so every time a squad's announced they only call the players who've been left out
normally that's the way it works from the last squad but if Limiston is asking keys for just a bit
of guidance yeah it is not hard to pick up your phone for five or ten minutes it I'm sorry but if
your rob keys no one is that busy for a quick phone call or even an email shoot him an email with
a few things but that that's all from Rob easy you know speaks to the culture inside that team
that is not too healthy we you know we saw during the summer Stokes and McCullum seem to be at
each other so there's a bit going on there for sure so I'm really looking forward to the announcement
about McCullum's future which will come very soon you would imagine whether he's going to
continue on in the job or not but interviews like this won't do any good and gagging the players
that that's not a good sign either there's you know more under the surface or they're going to make
a change but yeah England's falling apart that's why I'm speeding it you must be absolutely thrilled
matters I am this is this is delightful like we all know how angry I was after the last what was that
hooked it hooked it to your veins absolutely but it's it's it's it's sort of is it living up to what
I'd hoped for yes I mean this is what I wanted I want Stokes has still got his job McCullum though
I mean it's just embarrassing for them so that's what you so enjoyable about this all right staying
in England since our last episode the hundred auction took place the first ever auction in English
sport Australia's own Beth Mooney was signed for 210,000 pounds almost 400,000 Australian dollars
equally in the highest salary in the competition Sophie divine also got that last year the
highest salary was 65,000 pounds so it's a huge increase with private ownership so if you're
mulling you got signed for only 47 and a half thousand pounds but yeah that was the big surprise
for Australia Beth Mooney getting that big number a lot of Australians did preside so you know at least
Perry, Lana King, Grace Harris, Meg Lennon made the brown was signed for 40,000 pounds, Nika
Carey was signed for 95,000 pounds but Phoebe Litchfield had already presigned actually our
favourite Jess Johnison got 110,000 pounds at the auction so good result for her yeah absolutely
just on Sophie Mullenue Minners there's talk again that you're interesting to see I know you
there's a bit of a pet topic for you you're interesting to see how they managed here for this
West Indies tour because what this article that was printed the last 24 hours suggests that maybe
she won't be bowling as much she will play but I wonder if they're going to not bowler not user
as a bowler she'll just focus on captain in the field and then batting to the lower down the
order which is an interesting one isn't it it shows that maybe there's still a bit of lingering
pain so hopefully I hope for her sake that she can get fit and well yeah absolutely you know my
feelings on this I mean that just further underlines what a crazy decision it was to give her the
captaincy when there were much better candidates there were much fitter definitely in the best 11
I don't know about better maybe fitter candidates but yeah at the end of the day better better
but if you're in the best 11 you're a better candidate like you don't have to think about
thinking somebody I'm talking about as a leader yeah the thing is Australian Australian cricket
it's always been built upon you pick your best 11 plays and then you don't you don't you don't
pick Mike really to lead the squad right with the men's auction I guess the big news was
an IPL own side did sign a play from Pakistan Abra Ahmed was signed by the sun rises leads for 190
thousand pounds so that discussion around whether IPL sides would sign any Pakistan plays
you can't put it to bed because Sunny Gavisca wrote a column in India that basically
signing Abra Ahmed was like putting bullets in Indian soldiers and Sunny Gavisca's reasoning was
sun rises pay Ahmed that money will get taxed by the Pakistan government then that money goes to
the military and some of that goes to firing bullets in India so Gavisca was not happy and that is
the the problem with this issue it's it's so vexed it's so emotional that you know sun rises leads
to the right thing for their club and the fact there's a huge population from Pakistan in that
area of England but they're getting backlash in India and from a huge figure in sunny Gavisca
I don't know what you can say I mean it's just it's a shame because I think they've done the right
thing sun rises and I don't know if Gavisca is actually correct there that just paying a Pakistani
player means you're firing bullets on the Indian people yeah it's easy it just shows you how deep
rooted it is it's the same it's crazy thought yeah I just yeah I just think it shows you how deep
rooted the the rivalry isn't it matters but yeah I think it's over that you can't make that
comparison between killing someone I'm signing someone the in cricket I get the emotion behind
well he's just saying that the money is the money he's saying the money goes to the military from
cricket but oh I see sorry I got it now I understand you but yeah it's ridiculous anyway so
so that's that's so that's what happened so the issue kind of smolders on but it does stop
that discussion of discrimination I guess because one was one player from Pakistan was signed
estranged into well in the auction barren of Bartlett watches almost out mature got picked up for
75,000 pounds by the Welsh fire but that is the first hundred auction and when we did see the
values of the the female players and some of the men's plays significantly increased with private
ownership so bit of a test case for Australia all right that is all the headlines now we're going
to cartlet it go then we will go to the YouTube comments I'm going to go cartlet it go first and
then I'm going to look at the comments where you're giving your cartlet it go I've got two cartlet
it goes firstly I got a message last week and you know I couldn't believe it I got a message from
baby Dino I got a message message from Dean Jones son who's a fan of the podcast fan of the
podcast wants to come on because he's a budding cricketer he wants to talk about his dad he wants to
get into media he's only 17 I think this is the Jackson warn effect I think he's seen Jackson
warn and all the media stuff he's done his podcast so baby Dino is you know he plays I think
pretty high level great quick and in Sydney he's going to come on the podcast pretty soon it's
talk about his dad I mean Dean Jones was my hero growing up met Dean Jones a number of times
and yes getting a message from his son was bizarre so you reached out to you did he
what is the back of the last episode last week I don't know just call me he got my numbers online
and it's got a message this is Dean Jones son but anyway so he's going to pop in one of the
episodes I mean maybe you'll be in intern for the show that'd be good that'd be good Dean Jones
than you in three labor for you yes absolutely yeah well if you want to learn about media he's got to
start somewhere and my other thing that's right and my other cartlet it go is very quickly we missed
it but there was a new first class record Brett Randall of central district districts in New
Zealand took five wickets in five balls for the first time ever in first class cricket and northern
districts collapse from none for four to five for nine there was a wicket off Randall's last ball
of an over then four wickets after first four balls the next over and then he took another wicket
to have six to have six wickets in eight balls which has never been done before in first class
cricket and Randall wasn't even going to play except for injuries and unavailability so an amazing
record for Randall fantastic and good to see hopefully it's you know a bit of a flow on affected
terms of further publicity you receive there may be a bit of attention as well time for my
cartlet it go minutes it is and I'm going to be reading the comments I probably won't be listening to you
say no that's all right no but you might want to you might want to I think you might agree we might
like one of our favorites matters Amanda jade Wellington I noticed didn't get picked up in the
hundred auction which surprised me a little bit because isn't she like at the top three of the
all-time wicket takers in the hundred Amanda jade Wellington so I found it a bit surprising that
she wasn't picked up maybe you know English cricket and the powers of B when it tried and raised
the stocks of some of the younger players coming through which spilled bowlers and picking some of
their own but I found it a bit odd given what she's done for the competition and her contribution
to pumping it up and also her player as well she's been she's had a bit of success in the competition
to not get picked up I thought was a little bit odd yep yep well I think that's what happens when
private ownership comes in I mean it's a bit more ruthless they're probably looking for big names
internationals and and that's why I'm probably um willing to miss that yeah I know it's so now
just just found that one a little bit odd so that was my can't let it go for this week all right
now all right let me go through the chat there's a lot but tiger tiger hey men is what do you think
about a strain plays going to the PSL security threat from this smudger please be careful look it
is a very interesting issue I think if there's any doubt the players won't go there's no way
they'll put themselves in harm's way Daniel Churney I think men has just tweeted out that there's a
chance that I think there's a conflict isn't there in the afghanistan pakistan border or something
like that I'm not 100% aware of it but I think he put out a tweak just in the last uh
12 hours or so saying he's understanding is that um I think it was Role Pendi a match that was
a shower yeah a shower yeah apparently might not be going ahead so I haven't looked uh since then but
yeah there's there's an element of doubt that a lot of looks of things yeah I know the strain plays
they won't put themselves in harm's way they make too much money to take a risk going if there's
any trouble a tiger tiger manage your little clip with McGill is gone viral in Indian cricket YouTube
it's gone everywhere someone sent me a um another podcast in England that broke the whole thing down
um like blow by blow it was hard I remember there's a couple of blokes um they do a popular podcast
in Sydney and they broke it all down as well I've forgotten what it's called but they've had a lot
a lot of a lot of NRL players and things like that they uh broke it down too sorry to interrupt but
yeah yeah I did get sent some reactions from the scn morning hosts around the country
and let me just say like somewhere in my good books and there's a couple well there's one in particular
go on who is gone I'm not going to name him um but you know he he's he's gone on the shit list put it
that way um but your your mates down in Melbourne very supportive I don't know who's it uh Gary and
Tim do they still host Gary and Tim yeah Gary line yeah that was very supportive yeah yep yep um
um uh yes target targets us why did they coach fire the coaches the day before we did speak about that
um well that's it really um lots of great comments if you're new and bow bow Webster should replace
Cameron Graham permanently in the Australian team yep I mean certainly an option the only thing I
don't like about Webster is when I see him play shield cricket he bats low down the order
and I know the selectors look at that I think what's going on um so I think they need to
he needs to be higher up the order hmm well maybe uh for teen balance I mean as I have a lot of
decent players in that top order um but then again Webster's an international player so yeah see
what you mean yeah well that's it for this edition of cricket unfiltered thanks everybody for
