Local people, local stories, this is the All Local from 1010 Wins.
I'm Linda Lopez and here are today's top local stories.
Police are investigating a half dozen robberies at Chase Banks, around the five burrows that
happened just over the past five days and they say the same guy is responsible for all
of them.
Customers taking out money at the Chase in Harlam on East 125th Street are on edge like
Hazel.
Finding out this is one of the six Banks, police believe were robbed by the same man.
I came this morning and after you told me that I made me nervous now, I was kind of scared.
Police believe Gustavo de Hazus Torres is behind this.
They say he's caught on camera going into Banks demanding the bank teller hands over the
cash and then taking off six different times.
I just felt like something had happened.
That's why it's crazy and any robbing people like mad now.
Police say in the six robberies, Torres got away with a little over $600.
Mary Lynn Buckley, 1010 Wins on 92, 3FM in Harlam.
A woman was randomly stabbed yesterday morning in Queens.
This happened around 6.20 am near a bus stop at 94th Street in 23rd Avenue.
The suspect who was wearing a ski mask stabbed the 30 year old more than half a dozen times.
Then surveillance video shows in briefly walking away and running back and attacking her again.
The whole thing happened in front of her young son.
That woman is hospitalized but she is expected to recover.
Police recovered unknife but so far no arrests have been made.
The City Council's Committee on Public Safety taking a closer look today at the proposed
budget for the NYPD.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tish taking center stage here answering questions about over-time
headcount hate crimes and how to retain cops.
Now she began her remarks touting the dramatic drops in crime over the past year and she
praised her officers responding to the Gracie Mansion bomb attempt.
She emphasized that terrorism is a real and deadly threat.
Her words in New York will be on a heightened state of alert for the foreseeable future.
She says the department has referred alleged overtime abuses in former chief Jeff Madrie's
office to the feds that is currently under investigation.
A sit-in is now underway at City Hall as home care workers demand an end to day long shifts.
Sarah Ann, a home care worker herself, says they want Mayor Momdani to keep his campaign
promise and back back the no more 24 act.
Home care workers, you know, workers who go into the elderly and homes of people with disabilities
and take care of them providing care and they will be doing the sit-in until the bill passes.
So they're going to be back again tomorrow the day after and we'll continue to do so until
we end this once and for all.
Back in January, a state Supreme Court judge quietly reopened over 100 cases filed by home
care workers against the state's Labor Department.
That judge found merit in those claims that the state abandoned its obligations when it
dropped its investigation of more than two dozen home care agencies.
The department argued clauses in the agency's union contracts barred the state from investigating
wage and hour disputes.
The Department of Homeland Security facing a lawsuit now from immigrant advocates here
in the city.
This is for refusing to allow members of the public in both courtrooms and the hallways
at 26 federal plaza, which is where ICE agents have been arresting people who show up to
court for hearings, attorney, attorney Stephen Kelly tells 1010 wins that violates the
First Amendment.
The law around this is not even the slightest bit ambiguous.
Every rule, every law, every relevant Supreme Court decision going back to the beginnings
of this country says, if you're a courtroom, you have got to be open to the public.
In some cases, people are told that courtrooms are full or that visitors were not being
allowed on that date.
So far, there's been no comment from the Trump administration.
Today a former NYPD member is being remembered on Long Island.
She was one of the many first responders to the attacks on 9-11.
Retired NYPD officer Karen Hill lost her fight last week after a courageous 10-year battle
with 9-11 cancer.
Her class was the first and I believe the only class to go into active duty before they
even graduated.
So that was something special as well.
But while still a recruit, Hill worked two months at ground zero, sleeping on the floor
many nights at the police academy, especially the first couple of weeks.
Her daughter, Kwadina, tells us her mom was very brave then and in her final weeks.
It was really sad.
The deterioration was really, really sad.
And to know that all of this happened because of something that happened so long ago,
funny person that she was didn't deserve to go out like that.
Funeral services today in Holbrook, officer Karen Hill was 58 years old.

While preschool classes were in session on Tuesday afternoon, a man tried to burglarize
a church on Long Island.
This is at the Presbyterian Church of the Maritges on Real Road Avenue, just before 1 p.m.,
Daniel Fannuel.
A 30-year-old from Riverhead allegedly tried to kick down the door of the church only
to be confronted by one of the preschool employees.
He then fled on foot, but police caught him a short time later in Mastic and charged him
with attempted burglary.
The annual mermaid parade in Coney Island could be canceled this year.
Coney Island, USA, the nonprofit that runs it, is $6,000 short on this year's expenses.
They say that's because local businesses are wary of putting up money because of the
economic situation across the country.
Ironically, artistic director Adam Rins says this event brings business to the neighborhood.
The parade day is the busiest day, probably the single most lucrative day for businesses
in the amusement district and just beyond.
And nobody in Coney Island wants to see the parade disappear.
You can donate to see it continue at Coney Island dot com slash mermaid parade.
