Hello everybody welcome to Mike Grobrew Milwaukee viewers chatter from the Milwaukee journal sent. My name is Jay are red Cliff. My colleague is Kurt Hogue from the Milwaukee journal sent. He is on the other line. We are you know in our feelings a little bit after a rough weekend or a rough Sunday of Wisconsin sports namely the Green Bay Packers not winning.

1:01The Milwaukee Brewers also did not win but that was the outlier in a very fruitful week. Five of six they beat the Chicago Cubs. Very interesting things so much to talk about this week. Interesting things happen in all three Cubs games. They beat the Reds have a 20 to nothing win. When the first two against the Reds they are going to the playoffs. They have clinched a spot. The division clinch is going to happen here in the first couple days of this road trip. But there's so much to discuss as I said and that is why Kurt Hogue is here to discuss with us Kurtz. We're going to get through this man. I know that the Packers laid a gigantic egg in the second half on Sunday but we can do this. The people need us. They need Brewers chatter. Yeah I'm over them. You're over the people or you're over the Packers? No no I would never be over the people. Oh good. Thank goodness. No they need us. We need them. There's a lot going on. Have you ever thought about running for office? God no who would do such a terrible thing. Why?

2:02I was just thinking about the people and jobs where you can never be over the people which I guess ironically is where most of them are over the people. But nevertheless I think we've talked we've talked to you and I talked about like being on survivor. I think I'd be a really good survivor. We probably have. Right? I mean I assume that conversation. I assume that conversation began with Hey JR have you ever thought about being on survivor and me saying no? That's then we haven't discussed this because I think it's a super fascinating thing to talk about but apparently you don't so we'll just move on but I think being good at survivor and being a politician are like very not similar but they share a lot of similarities and that's scary because I don't want to do politics for obvious reasons many of many obvious reasons. But I could see you I could see you I could see you winning people over. I have several problems. First of all I really don't like the outdoors at all like even the yard.

3:03I don't like living without Wi-Fi or cell service these are both things I really struggle with. I see. Oh yeah you have to have you know for high-fructose corn syrup I definitely don't like to manipulate people or be manipulated. I don't like having those kinds of conversations. I don't like to trick people. I don't I'm not competitive. Other than that I think I could do survivor fine yeah that sounds good. I could stand to lose a few pounds so I'm interested in the diet process here. I do I'm somewhat interested in traveling but usually places with Wi-Fi so I really just don't know I just don't know if it's for me but but on the other hand curd I do think you would be okay at it. I think you'd be good your your tall I feel like that works your benefit in the wilderness and you are what? You clearly this Dutch you're gonna say why it worked I benefited you just set in the wilderness in the wilderness. Things are like if you had to climb a tree. I don't okay I don't

4:04think that I don't know if that does. I feel like I think short people climb trees better. Okay even if that were true and I don't believe that's true tall people thrive in corporate settings like people always promote the tall people to executives. People want the tall people to succeed. Yes I don't feel like a lot of tall people have one survivor but there is this there is this part of the game where at the start when they're doing their their in their tribes it's so stupid they're all like well we got to keep all the strong people we got to stay strong and then they keep losing and I'm like you idiot stop doing that although it would be it would benefit me tall man for them to keep the theoretically stronger people that still lose challenges but where are we? I've been news for you Richard Hatch the first survivor winner this is as many seasons of survivors I've seen season one he is six foot four so he is tall he was also very naked which I don't feel like worked in his advantage for most and most of the time but he did win he

5:08did win since one yeah I think the six foreign has had more to do with that than we then we lead on the nudity the nudity did not help it did not help his cause I don't believe I don't believe Kurt the Milwaukee Brewers offense has found something uh found something quite delightful at a time when the pitching is probably more of a question mark than it has been for quite some time uh but the offense absolutely churning out runs they deploy the Cincinnati Reds for 33 runs deploy was the wrong word obliterate is the right word 33 runs over the first two games of that series they lose on sunday in a tight one four to three but for the most part they are getting clutch hits they are getting home runs like not just home runs they are pounding the ball when they hit out I mean will you put your ass at homeers in three straight games Jackson Churrioh hit a two run homeer after the team had been down to their last strike against Chicago and one of the probably the most thrilling win of the year they are really hitting the snot out of the baseball joy or tease is a league average hitter a better than league average hitter after another home run on sunday incredible comeback for him just an incredible season for him honestly on on total

6:13it was so bad through me so so the offense has been very very good Garrett Mitchell smoking the ball like everybody is trustworthy at this point on offense it is the pitching though that we will discuss at a later point but but we'll start with the positive Kurt this offense can win it can win the world series all of a sudden this is not something that I've ever believed about the Milwaukee Brewers until like the last 10 days of of offense now I believe is creeping in Kurt and you know I don't like belief you know I'm not comfortable with it it's like me being on survivor without Wi-Fi but the belief is there and I wonder if you think is it okay is it just the reds is it just the cubs bullpen and the reds everything like is that it or or is there something to what we're seeing do people realize how hard it is to do this over the course of 162 how do I keep up with your whims I I see what you mean because because I am a win sock like one week I'm depressed yeah no you

7:15should well that's fine I mean I get like emotional swings but like oh man you don't actually believe in the Brewers offense I'm here I'm I am here to be your therapist that's always basically basically I'm paid to do no I don't I don't actually believe in the Brewers you don't believe in the Brewers you're right if you want to get to the my core issue you're right you just set a bunch of things that I that was not JR that was not JR how do you ignore what they've done how do you ignore what they've done there's they're they're they hit home runs now like this is a this is this is this is the best of Brewers have looked in a September in some time normally they are it's not like a full skid but they're just kind of like posting into the postseason once they know that they're headed to yeah they have a win the division yeah and the last few September so I've not been very good I mean really since like probably 2021 was really the last

8:18like I think like the last really good September they had well wasn't that good was 2021 the year where the Cardinals went on like a 17 game winning streak and made things very oh no yeah didn't they posted in 2021 too yeah they were on course to win more games than ever and they never they did not do it they did they don't do it yeah so we got to go back to like 2019 for the Brewers to have a good September and I don't I can't say that no 2019 was pretty good it was fine it got I mean they were already comfortably in I guess 2018 I don't think they were not to begin September does when yellows got hurt okay you might be right you might be right they were comfortably in by the end to that wild party yeah by the end they Jordan Liles their way to the playoffs um we don't we really don't know if it matters at all or if it matters not but it is certainly more encouraging to see the Brewers show how they can be a juggernaut offensively than than the opposite and like this team doesn't hit home runs but let's not say they don't have guys who don't like that

9:20they don't have guys who don't hit home runs they do they do have some home run hitters they have four of them three and a half I don't think with them contrast is really home run header like he's got great power he wants this week but you're right in general and maybe he could be for a playoffs here I guess I would throw them in in that category but they have three home run headers they have Bryce Frank they have Jackson Churro and they have Jake Bowers um yellowage Vaughan Mitchell you could Mitchell like they're they have so they had those guys have power but they're not home run headers maybe you want to put joy or tease in the first group and make it for I won't argue it I won't argue it he's an above league average hitter but uh I mean it's encouraged yeah the offense has for sure been encouraging Jackson Churro going nuclear is helpful as maybe the best yeah maybe the best sign I actually know the best sign is Bryce Terrain on I was exactly gonna say that because that is a guy starting September the skid that had plagued him in August continued and you're like his knee is bothering him he's hurt and we know he's still hurt he got taken out pretty early in that 20 nothing game once

10:24they got ahead because he is still hurt but he's got a very weird career pattern where he alternates good in bad months over the last couple years it isn't obviously it isn't quite like good month bad month good month bad month but it's been kind of like that and for him to come out guns a blazing with an OPS well over nine here in September and the early going in the first two weeks I mean what what a development like you need you need you need you wrote this you need to you need the right version of Bryce Terrain to succeed in the playoffs and I think they got him and again Kurt it isn't even just the humors I've seen more well struck singles this week now I haven't checked the exit Velo's I don't know if that's true but it it feels to me like they are getting good contact no matter where that baseball is going either their outs are loud am I crazy um no you're not crazy you're absolutely not crazy well don't ask me that question actually I'd like a redo I plead the fifth on the question about craziness but your observation is largely largely correct all right and the silly thing is of course I think they could score 20 runs

11:28never game this week and I would still probably sit here and tell you it doesn't it doesn't matter for you know trying to describe playoff results or playoff success to it yeah there's what 12 games left if they won them all they'd have a hundred and what do we have to 105 wins and they would not be picked in the series against the Dodgers that's just how we understand the playoffs we know that the brewers will not be favored no matter how good their record is people are gonna pick the clubs or fill if they play the fillies in the first in the in LDS they're not gonna be picked to win I I might pick the fillies I mean I think toss up at that point but I might pick the fillies okay okay okay so the manager keeps on saying no one picked us to win the division he I have I have gone back at him with this like not it not know what someone picked you to win the division was it Kurt Hogue it was me but but on but on the other hand like I do

12:29absolutely get the underdog thing because it's this they're gonna get to the playoffs and they're gonna play the fillies or whoever and they're not gonna be picked to win and that's really what it comes down to that is unfortunate I think part of I think what what certainly getting that first round by will help them because the fillies will have to have used Christopher Sanchez and Zach Wheeler earlier in the week to get to that point or the Cubs will have to use and the Cubs pitching doesn't even really scare me in the rotation although we certainly saw what Kevin Gowas and Clay Holmes are capable of but the Cubs will have to have used some of those bullets and the brewers theoretically will get off to a good start or at least a good pitching matchup early on in the series but the pitching the pitching is concerning Kurt now we saw Robert Gasser pitch okay on Sunday I I feel like when I watch Robert Gasser pitch and he's been good for four starts in a row really but limited work and I feel like the brewers are always like ready to push push the escape button every time Gasser is pitching it's like we're we're gonna let you go but the second we see a little bit of

13:30decline we are we're out so I don't even know if the brewers trust him as a as a starting pitcher Kyle Harrison had a horrendous outing this week in relief this is already after on top of several other horrendous outings clearly something is wrong we've said that before he has gone from his clear cut number two starter to are we sure he's gonna get rostered I mean these are some of the same conversations admittedly that we had with Jacob is a rouseki last year if he's hurt you know we assume there's injury but the brewers having a habit is different I never once I personally never once thought Jacob is rouseki wasn't okay on the playoffs roster but you could not have seen his role did we think he was couldn't be important no no no but we're but to legit to ask if Kyle Harrison is gonna be on the playoffs roster is a legitimate question because right now right now he's batting practice I wouldn't yeah I wouldn't roster that guy I wouldn't either it helps

14:31that may pitch fairly well this week but there are some there are some miserouseki some comparable attributes to miss last year where namely uh Kyle Harrison was throwing 97 out of the bullpen on Saturday night and buddy that is the thing that he has going for him right now is he if he was if he was throwing 92 93 still in that outing and getting hit I'd be throwing it throwing in the towel saying it's it's just not gonna happen this year he's not a guess clearly he's not out of gas it's not a guess it's mechanics it's not injury it's got me mechanics yeah the pitch shapes are not what you want and like execution's not good either but less we forget this is a guy who could get away with middle middle fastballs for three months of the season yeah he wasn't getting hit and now everything is getting completely pummeled so I still like my gut would be he makes

15:32the playoffs roster right now but how many more outings can he possibly have two three and the other issue the other issue you have the the tricky part is like where are those outings because he's not starting are you gonna have a game where you're losing eight to one are like you I guess maybe have some blowouts in there like you can't you can't guarantee those but if it's all you know two three run games um I don't think what do you know about Pat Murphy that's gonna tell that that tells you that he's gonna pitch Kyle Harrison in a two run game no manager would but also you're you're in this battle of like trying to get this guy right for the playoffs that's what's important there's a chance that it happens because we saw it be so successful this is not a brand and Sprote situation is sprouting which we can get to that we will we'll talk I don't think that much to talk about that's just no it's over it's over yeah go home it's over um

16:34um there's still a potential for this to get figured out I just don't know if it's gonna happen and as it stands right now you can't pitch this guy in a playoff game you just can't do it like even even the guy who comes in down 10 to one and has to eat a couple innings that's some that has importance and that has value in the playoffs and you can't be sure that he's gonna give you two winnings it was funny when they were talking about you know tossing out the idea of all of maybe we'll shorten his starts from what yeah it's been bad from the jump I think what we've seen Shane Drowin is the starting is getting more and more difficult to believe that's something that can happen in the postseason I still think there's a possible bullpen roll for him but if he's out of the rotation you know you you've just seen the peeling back of of credible starting caliber guys in the postseason obviously we're down to Miz and Logan and and then you've got Dustin May who like I said pitched really well this week very encouraging stuff and after that

17:35there's legitimately nobody else that you would really really trust as a postseason starter Robert Gasser is the closest one to it and again I don't know if the brewer is really trust that so is Drowin you know are you gonna need Drowin to be working as a reliever down the stretch you know ideally they're two and a half games ahead of the Dodgers for the best record in baseball coming into the week ideally they lock that up at some point and you've got a whole last week to tinker with things and you can have Kyle Harrison start game and you can have Shane Drowin start a game and Bryce Wilson Colton Gordon come on down Colton Crowe like there's options at that point but you know I think about like who's gonna be in this bullpen like what if okay let's say Kyle Harrison is a bullpen option I already think Shane Drowin is a bullpen option I already think Robert Gasser is kind of a bullpen option like we're running out of spots you know like there's the high leverage guys and you start to wonder where's room for a guy like Kyle Harrison so I think there's room I think it's I think it's spot number 12

18:37it's like Grant Anderson although Grant Anderson's hurt right now it's like Grant Anderson Garrett Stallings has not allowed to run in 11 innings at the big leagues this year yeah Kyle Harrison I'm Bryce Wilson even before that I don't know Bryce Wilson's if Bryce Wilson's healthy and the other guy is just like can't claim the spot you could do a whole lot worse than the last guy in your playoff roster being Bryce Wilson who's just gonna throw a bunch of fastballs over the plate and not walk guys and see what happens you can do a lot worse than that legitimately I don't know man Shane Shane Drowin's an interesting topic too because he does not look right at all his command if Shane Drowin feels like he should be a command guy he's not a command guy and the last few four or five starts have been a really really spotty and he can't locate the breaking balls and the fastballs are getting hit I'm concerned there but I would also he's

19:44been so effective out of the bullpen just in that shorter role that I I would like to see the brewers just punt on the starting thing that they probably should have punted on a month ago although who starts games yeah great question yeah Coleman Crowe's like the other option there and the Coleman Crowe now would be a fine option I think you five you five games up with 12 to play on a on a buy um Shane Drowin's not pushing well either so move into the bullpen and give Coleman Crow the start that's what I would say yeah I can see Shane Drowin doing which had Patrick did last year which is really maximizing himself for those reasonable leverage situations especially against lefties um I I also think there's probably a little concern in my head for Trevor McGill like we saw a really bad version of McGill in a couple games this this week Dom and I jinxed him we gave him flowers for his incredible August August and I'll relieve for the month Dom pointed out he had not surrendered a home run that lasted about what did I go like 12 hours where he then did allow a

20:49home run now the booze won that first game they won both games but Trevor McGill didn't look right and then we didn't see him in the red series we know he's been kind of banged up along the way like maybe something's bothering him after your rebay has pitched a lot lately I don't know if I've loved it like it hasn't looked super duper sharp so I don't know what to make of their leverage guys right now now that that comes and goes and I you know we start to worry a little too much get too micro focused on a small sample when you're talking about guys who are inherently already working with small samples wouldn't be too worried about that but this doesn't feel like a fully calibrated bullpen or rotation right now at a time when you know even though their office has picked it up like October's right around the corner yeah but here's what I'll say here's what I'll say I'm not worried I mean like there's some little micro things like yeah Trevor McGill doesn't start to get some with the rest of the year that Marie Bay hasn't looked sharp the last two times but that that doesn't like overwhelm me at this point of the year miss miss looked fantastic against the cubs Logan Henderson is Logan Henderson Dustin May finally showed some more flash I mean he showed it

21:54in his first couple starts but finally gave you the six thinnings you can sink your teeth into it like okay that's what the brewers are betting on with this stuff and then Robert Gasser has been fine deal haul been great so I'm not on the like I still think they have the arms I absolutely still think they have the arms Brewer stole game Tuesday that might be the game of the year I think would we look back at the 2026 season that winning in Los Angeles I think really sort of triggered a bit of a turnaround for this thing I think that was the biggest win I think it was yeah it's just that it happened late at night when no one was awake and so maybe it gets a little bit less shine down to their last strike Christian Yolge gets a two out single on a full count pitch and then Jackson Churriot takes a big swing on on one that he follows away and then sends one over the wall a laser beam to left Jackson Churriot like you said just full on nuclear this week and the swag he brought to the plate-curt like everyone has latched onto that Brian Anderson noticing it like he

22:54looks like basically he's there to do some damage and then the man just or just sends a sense of all immediately to the wall in a heartbeat he is feeling it and we have seen this in past post seasons even when everybody else seems to kind of be stuck in that Gruber's rut where it is scratch and claw for every run then Jackson Churriot comes up and just swings and pops on over the fence he's just he's just so special in big moments I don't know if I believe in clutch I don't know if I believe in rising to the moment in the game of Major League Baseball the way that a lot of people want to believe in it but man if I if I were I feel like Jackson Churriot would be the guy and it is so nice to see him after I would say a challenging season I don't know how to describe this season it felt like he hadn't quite taken that step and now in September I'm thinking maybe I don't know if this is the step but this is definitely this is definitely the best version we've seen of him this year yeah I don't think it's the step and frankly like with Jackson Churriot I don't think there's going to be a it's not going to be a thus step that's not to say he's not

23:55going to go nuclear and have a seven or a season but I think that's the player who he is is where he's just good enough to just do it if that makes sense yeah like I've kind of given up on this idea of Jackson Churriot chasing at a 25% cliff like I think who he is who he is but there's a world in which you know for one year that's all that all gets put together and there's health and it's 35 bombs and has a 900 opium or whatever but yeah I actually J.R this is my favorite thing doing it but I got an argument in high school about people like clutch doesn't exist yes I said like 15 at the lunch table screaming at people who told me LeBron wasn't better than Kobe because it's not clutch like that's not real that's not real and I still am inclined to believe that but I do think now I've come around at least on like the human element and there's

24:58guys that can stick to their process and slow moment down better and he is 1,000% the same guy in big moments also with like a desire for the big moment there's like I don't know big leagueers I don't think any of them are scared of the big moment as I like their whole life is the big moment but there's some guys who do really want it and I don't know if that really matters no I don't know but it seems to with him it seems to yeah there are some guys who press I don't think that happens for him it helps when Jacob Webb throws the same change up in the same spot two pitches in a row just maybe ill advised of course Luis Laura then comes up and wins that game in extras after he had had a rough game offensively but the man made some catches this week Luis Laura has been certainly entertaining this season thus far the offense is still a little bit of a work in progress we know that but the catch he made I mean first of all he makes the catch against the cubs on Tuesday to um no that was Monday on Labor Day in the night inning against

26:03Trevor McGill with Trevor McGill pitching to save what would have been an extra base hit and then Pete Crow Armstrong homers with which would have tied the game had he not made a leaping catch at the wall and then he outtuds himself with with the catch the year on on Friday he goes up with the Garrett Mitchell closing as well he takes a home run away from a you Henio Suarez and then celebrates in such a way that the Elf doesn't even see the ball he's confused if he actually did catch it I was confused I thought maybe he was saying he didn't catch it like it was 13 nothing at the point I thought he was saying oh man I tried guys but it didn't happen but no he was celebrating the fact ball was squeezed tightly in his glove where no one could see it very entertaining moment he has been an entertaining player my question do you hurt you see the starting right fielder in the playoffs it's a great question I do not know the answer so comfortable at around the wall in right field that that could be the a determining factor or the determining factor I don't think this is I don't think this is a decision that's been made for the first time and it feels like a while there's

27:09still some like like there's some malleability to the brewers playoff lineup you know it feels like in previous years like well okay we know who's going to be against right we know who's going to be against lefties we know Lars going to play against lefties I don't know if there's anything to read into him playing against a righty on in Sunday's game playing against chase burns and South Felix sitting maybe there it's maybe there maybe there is something to that maybe there's not I I can't say for sure but it's like it it certainly tells you that this job is not South Felix to lose he hasn't been you know the world beater since he came back off the injured listen you're wondering if if it was just totally the shoulder and I don't I don't really haven't you know seen a totally different version of South Felix I don't think if South Felix has a starter at all anymore I think he's a part-time player it's Bowers or it's Lara and I will say that on Sunday it's notable that chase burns the the reds it said they're limiting his innings burns have only worked three innings against the Dodgers reds have a lot of

28:11lefties in the pen I I think it was the expectation that chase burns wasn't going to be in their very long and he wasn't he was only in their three innings so that's a little different than a normal right-hander as dominant as burns can be but I think I mean I think ultimately we'll look back and say one of the disappointments about the season is itself really just wasn't able to to to click yeah I couldn't hit it was injured too but but just couldn't hit and lost the shop to to Bowers and Lara Bowers is probably not going to be here next year so that's a temporary situation but I don't know what comes next for South Felix quite honestly I think he can contribute I just I don't know um you know before we get to three up three down I think the thought there was one more thing maybe not maybe not Kurt was there anything else before before we get into some of the more granular details from the week the sprouting we could have done that in three up three down we could do three we get no see what is I'll leave I'll have that lead off my three up three down the sprouting without further ado let's move now to some of the more granular details from the

29:13week here we go our weekly segment three up three down Kurt after this is done I have an interview with Bo Naylor one of the newest Milwaukee Brewers yep you played this week he did did he and don't see I said I said it as a joke I don't think he I don't think he did please tell me he got into into the 20 to nothing game I don't recall that happening um he played first he played first base oh first base he played first base that's right he did come into play first base um so Bo Naylor you have been here two weeks and have four games they played in one game four of that's four of that's two games one of which was like an inning in the field Bo Naylor is here sure to to break glass in case of emergency he is outside of Dustin made the one guy I haven't even had on the show at any point in our history uh who is on the active roster so like you know what Bo Naylor come on down let's talk oh

30:16Gary Sanchez I've never heard Gary Sanchez on uh so there are good interview a good interview a good interview for sure by the way have you seen how Craig yo I was been doing quite well very well suspiciously okay um I'm gonna go I'm gonna I'm gonna kick it off with three up three down assuming you're you're plug for your interview is done yes go I it's like it's like six minutes don't worry about yes go ahead um Brandon sprints brod's outing was tough to watch it is tough to watch it was very tough for me because on the last podcast we had oh yeah sorry this was this was with Dom I said but Dom yeah I I posed the theory that Sprote will have more playoff in some Kyle Harrison and then Sprote was back Monday he was back Monday he was back on the team and I was feeling really good about myself and through the first inning Brandon Sprote through I was feeling even better about myself but then Kurt there was another rating it did not go well

31:20there was another inning there was another rating it sure was I did this just I mean this just has to be a re-evaluated and figured out over the last season yeah because there's too much talent in there for this to keep happening and when it happens this many times like I I have a hard time just in general like we we don't know exactly what's going on in guys minds and you know the mental side of it malt at but in this case when it's happened this many times and the laps is just snowball you can absolutely attribute it to like his he what they say he's he's over the mount he's not over the plate like his your brain cannot be focused on what's happening on the mount it has to be focused on executing that pitch and I don't think that's there with enough consistency on top of the fact that like holding the VLO has been tricky and the stuff declines as the start

32:21goes on and maybe there needs to be like more understanding of the stuff and how it works and refinement in that area like just having a PhD in yourself I think is maybe the way I would look at it but it was a good it was I think it was a noble theory for you to have Jay on it was a noble theory because if he comes up and he pitches three times and it looks he doesn't walk guys there's absolutely a spot for him on the playoff roster but what he can do besides revisit it next spring at this point it was it was it was deeply incorrect deeply incorrect it was what that theory was I you know I suddenly find myself reevaluating last year for Brandon Spurrow when he was with the Metz organization the numbers were not good and I mean a lot of production at the big at the AAA level is it's hard to really know what you're looking at it's it's not as important that the numbers are good but the numbers weren't good the big league level the numbers weren't good

33:23and now I'm starting to think to myself can you do this like at the big league level and and you know I would also think back to the Corbin Bernstradewer joy or a TZDL Hall are worth almost four war this year you know maybe some of these guys really just take that long to find their foothold to figure it out and and maybe that's the case with Brandon Spurrow the talent really is there but you've seen back to back seasons where he just hasn't been good and now it's you know you wonder yourself is that a guy that you would you would go into the office and be like well he could be a pitcher in the Brewers rotation next year I wouldn't say that yeah maybe I would I would okay you think he'd be one of their five next year or at least you know as you get started in spring training and think like who are the five yeah I think I think he's around that five spot for next year okay um the upside is just so massive still but the reality of what we're seeing in real life and in real time is undeniable and yeah um like the Corbin Bernst comp does it does work to some

34:26level but I also want to tap the brakes a little bit just a little bit on that um Corbin's like top and aptitude for like pitching I think yeah I mean the man just like figured out that cutter on his own just kind of crazy thing to do and um Spurrow's already got the sinker like he already has a really good pitch and some of the secondary stuff is great too so I don't know the potential is still there but all in all kind of a lost year for him yeah my number one we got a final tally on the Andrew Fisher home run watch this year down in double a galaxy and class high a Wisconsin before that he finishes the year with 48 home runs he hit one off a position player on Saturday and that will do it for his regular season 48 home runs is the fifth most in a minor league season since the 1963 minor league reorganization we talked about this uh I talked about this with

35:28Dom on last week show two of those are brewers it's 55 by Bill McNulty and 51 by Gorman Thomas in 1974 a very particular season with the Sacramento Solans because they had just moved and their stadium wasn't really like up to spec for for minor league ballpark and they had a left field fence that was 233 feet from home plate so I don't know if you could really count the 1974 season so that least you guys I think you could hit a home run of that well that's almost healthier field dimensions I actually don't having played in the front office media softball game this year I'm pretty sure I can't not with a restricted flight softball how to say yeah those those softballs a restricted flight they right you're squishy yeah they don't let us play with the big boy softballs I am pretty self-deprecating about my athletic ability I can hit a baseball 233 feet I can do that um buddy buddy you got some pop there like there's some people I'm not gonna lie I'm not gonna lie their face and tell them that I'm you know I'm just telling you can't do that yeah but you got some pop

36:28I I can still swing a little bit a little bit um in any event Andrew Fisher two guys outside of that season ahead of him in a minor league season since the minor leagues organized that's incredible it speaks to the run environment right now in in double A and below where there's just so much offense and triple A's had had an increase in offense to still investigating exactly what's going on there what's going on with the baseball but undeniably great season on the in the home run in the production front for Andrew Fisher first round pick last year the Biloxi shuckers the only team in the viners that'll be heading into the playoffs that gets started this week Tuesday against Pensacola it's actually the team they finished the regular season with a lot of stars on the team Hazel Smade Josh Adam Cheskey is on that team Brelin Payne has been just incredible his he's 20 years old he's still rackin a production at double A so really a fun team to keep track of I think they could easily win the Southern League championship they did not have a good second half but but they had won the first half you know not a lot to play for in the second half so that's kind of fine and uh Andrew Fisher those those playoff home runs won't count on this tally but 48 this season strikeouts are an issue we've that we've

41:42say his name is fairy vince he came to the microphone to sync god bless america in the seventh ending this is on 9 11 I was listening back to the radio broadcast of the previous inning where Garrett Mitchell hit hit hit a grand slam and they do the North Shore adult diapers commercial which has been one of the one of the greater sponsors in radio history local radio history they have had a lot of fun with those announcements and in this one lingridel says something about well when you have a grand slam in your pants and it devolved from there it was um I mean if you just go back and listen to it if you want it was very funny Josh malware was in the booth with him and I'm listening to this I have my headphones on so god bless america begins and I don't even stand up because this is what I'm doing trying to transcribe that then I missed the guy's name I missed how old he was I don't even know if they said how old he was but then he sings god bless america it was it was fantastic the world were two veteran and still with us he's from rockford Illinois and he was awesome one of the highlights of the week and one of the highlights of the night even on a game with a brewer scored 20 runs and one the second second 20 plus run shutout of the year that is an absurd statistic that is up

42:47there with prince fielder hitting two inside the park home runs a 22 to nothing went over Seattle and then basically a month later a 20 nothing went over the reds needless to say that's ever been done before there's only like nine 20 plus run shutouts in majorly baseball history on record one of those in 1901 so like having too many years and same but um what a night uh what a night at the ballpark on Friday it was incredible yeah the brewer's do stuff like that not the 102 102 year old guy singing the other the brewer's had the two shutouts in like a month of 20 plus runs you're like oh man it must be pretty good it's kind of what like gets me back on on track on that front um let's see what else what else what else what else what else do we have um one contrast how to good week I guess what about that well he did homework three games in a row that's not bad yeah yeah that's a good that's not a good sign I mean that's that's really that's really where a lot of the encouragement the encouraging you know bives and signs from the offense were coming from is those guys capital G guys performing well he's one of them do you think what we've seen

43:54from cattreras and yell at just particularly real because yell at just looked really good now for a prolonged stretch cattreras one of his yeah one of his one of his three home runs came against a position player I don't want to discount that but a couple three run homers in there really nice stuff and uh I this is what's made the offense so complete is to have those two guys hitting the ball the way they are you think it's it's not just a hot stretch this is like they're finally like emerging from whatever's been holding them back all year long well for contraris specifically yeah because the underlying town level is just so high that even when you know when you use had that 150 batting average for like a month and a half or two months or whatever the heck I was about like probably by the end of the year he just figures some things out because that's how this sport this sport works all right my third and final Garrett Mitchell uh for hit day on Saturday he is still healthy still hitting the ball very hard he hit a grand slam the night before

44:57this was a good week for him it was a good week for everybody to be quite honest but um Garrett Mitchell is a hills and valleys kind of guy there are some parts of the season where he's unstoppable then there's parts of the season where he's you know pretty stoppable lots of swings and misses that's always gonna be part of his game but uh really exceptional work to uh to see him around back into four men again this is one of the reasons I'm starting to get optimistic about this offense when he when he's hitting you could put him at the top of the line up at the bottom of the line up he's always gonna create havoc with his legs and a good center field defender I mean what's not the like if he's hitting the ball is hard as he always does and doing it consistently so that's a that's uh that's where we'll finish what didn't we talk about not much Garrett stallings got a three-ending save first career save that was in the 20 to nothing games so that was something you know unusual and weird but uh but he has been as we mentioned earlier very very good and probably somebody who they're gonna have to consider for the playoff roster depending on how things are going um I think we talked about joy or tease enough have we talked about joy or tease enough because I don't understand what happened here need to do I know we did not talk about your her tease enough

46:03Jonathan judge had a great reply I posted about judge I think some of the like Georgia tease is a league average hitter now by WRC plus and judge and judge replied like he hasn't changed anything besides uh like swinging with more confidence or like swinging at everything with more conviction yeah swinging at everything with more conviction is the way that's it is he wrong like I want to what a point to always swing decisions are better oh he's doing this that like I don't know I don't think he gets he's but better I mean maybe this is this is baseball coming back around he's been he's still outperforming as expected numbers by a lot but it's also impossible to not to deny that he has been better like he took chase burns 410 feet the center field um you can't you can't uh huh like there's there's a lot a lot of

47:05a lot of those sort of it yeah and I can't give you a great answer for other than it's happening well unfortunately when there isn't a great answer the the answer is usually like it's not gonna keep happening always so hopefully they ride this out sure yeah you just you just need him to keep doing it for I mean he's like he's a capable offensive player there's not Owen Miller's may of 2020 no this this is 60 games 60 really great games like if this were the 2012 2020 season you'd say he was one of the best players in baseball that year like that's where we're at could you imagine the overreactions he can I saw them I lived it you would get MVP votes he would get MVP you will get like top three MVP I mean you throw the defense in with the fact that he's got some of the best numbers in baseball yeah he's top ten in war since July 4th give that guy 60 games uh on the best team in baseball he's absolutely getting top three like PCA

48:06rocky devers joy or tease oh good thing it's like 2020 season was very real very real not fake it all all right let's go back in time and uh visit with uh with a with a moment in recent verse past it is my weekly segment remember when Kurt I brought this up on the midweek podcast that I accidentally left the game we're Jackson Churri who hit that home run early uh not accidentally I we kids were home alone we were ready to go we said this I said this so I was outside the stadium when Churri tied the game we were home by the time Luis Laura wanted that's gonna happen uh but what I did was that js online calm I put together a list of home runs that the brewers hit to tie or take the lead when they're down to their last out so they're losing and there's two outs in the ninth or tenth or whatever and they hit a home run and that ties the game in the in some cases one out of

49:06wind some cases they did not but most cases they do that was certainly the case with Churri oh after the brewers have been down to their last strike the previous at bat and it brought me back to another game for a couple reasons here 2018 April 3rd 2018 one of these games the second one of 2018 where the brewers were down to their last out and hit a home run to go ahead or take the lead now this game is very special a lot of people are going to remember it it is the only game in major league baseball history that began with back-to-back homers and ended with back-to-back homers and here's where I come in I was at this game too and you know what I saw none of those four home runs we got there late because it was I had young children at the time it was cold it was snowing it was a nightmare scenario April 3rd 2018 I believe the high according to my research is that it did actually get up to 36 degrees that day but I felt none of that it was it was bitterly cold and getting to the stadium was a little bit more difficult we did not see the St. Louis Cardinals outfielders Dexter Fowler and Tommy Fam lead off that game with back-to-back home runs to give the Cardinals a

50:10two-nothing lead against Chase Anderson who went on to to survive four innings of that game we were not there at the end either my daughter who was again younger at the time all she wanted to do was see Bernie Brewer come down the slide we did not get that opportunity even though the the the brewers did score some runs the Cardinals went up for nothing the brewers kind of chipped away in the eighth inning they got within one run Travis Shaw had a single Jonathan VR our guy had a single to right field that scored a run with two outs in the eighth so they got back within four three but we kind of just ran out of gas with the kids we had to go and then we're driving away and we hear on the radio with two outs and nobody on who comes to the plate same guy who came to the plate this week and that was Christian yellow she had not yet homeward as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers but on this particular evening this freezing cold day against Dominic Leon he hits a home run to tie the game at three my daughter in the car hearing this on the radio burst into tears because she missed Bernie Brewer coming down the slide she was very tired fell asleep thereafter they were also down to their last strike it was a two two pitch that yellow chits out Ryan Braun does not wait for another pitch next batter again now in a tie game three three Ryan

51:14Braun hits the game winning walkoff home run on the first pitch against Dominic Leonay back to back homeers again to begin and end at the game first time in big league history it was Christian yellow just first home run as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers I always think of it it's kind of a passing of the torch Braun and yellow conspiring together really kind of the last great year that Ryan Braun had and he he and yellow spoke at the job done Brewers win in walkoff fashion against the St. Louis Cardinals that was already the second game that year again this is April 3rd this is really stuff the Brewers are you know four and one after this game second game that year where they were down to their last out and homeward Ryan Braun had done it in San Diego in the first series of the year a crazy series that had a different walkoff win as well Ryan Braun saves the saves the day in San Diego the Brewers go on to win that game too it's it's easy to remember how well the Brewers finished the 2018 season I don't know if we remember that there were 11 and two to start it so speaking back to back at the beginning of the end they were awesome at the beginning of the season and then of course at the end they go on a big winning streak a lot of people remember that lots of homers involving Christian yellows there too and and go on to to of course get to

52:17this seventh game of the NLCS that season great great moment inside of a great great season do you remember that one you remember that one I bad Kurt you remember what happened the next day I believe they lost the next game that's all I got I don't remember oh no it wasn't the next it wasn't the next day okay a previous day if it was a previous stage would believe do you remember what happened to the previous day well that game I believe they won but I couldn't tell you oh no they lost that came to no you you picked me up from the airport one of these days I don't remember that I had an interview in in a in a walkie had I ever met you before oh no I picked you up from the airport even though I'd never met you before you took me to the jazz I did that I don't why would I do that I don't remember that I it's coming back to me now I for some reason in my mind I remembered getting back to Minnesota that night and then the brewer's hitting the homers okay and maybe that's what happened but I don't think I think that's wrong I think they

53:21were in San Diego that interesting and the next day was the Braun and homers I do not remember picking you up from the airport that does seem like maybe it rings the vagus of bells I am I did not know you in person I had communicated with you but did not know in person before I was the I was the tall handsome one I mean I ran into a few of those every once in a while I suppose I'm glad I was able to figure out which one was you so that I could get you to the journal Sentinel and the rest being history amazing all right that is my look back in Bruce history now let's close this thing down the way that we always do and that is with Kurt's take of the week let's go here it is Kirk long I got a smoke really sweet yes is it I was talking like brisket because you spoke some brisket I believe I did smoke the first thing I smoked was brisket yet last night looks amazing it's it's like health amazing too you know you normally brisket's not like a great like overnight

54:27in the fridge food the smoker changed my life man that's not even my take of the week I just wanted to tell you change your life just share share some share some life with each other share the baseball seasons too long man it's so long it's so long I'm tired why are we still here what's going on do you remember when this season began it was literally March yes the great series against the white socks to start the season Jacob is Rauski a lot a lead off homer and then not very much else for the rest of the year legitimately the the seasons so I mean one of the reasons we love it is because it's so long and you take up almost 50% of your entire year like just watching baseball at night it's not a bad way to go about it and that's why baseball is so fantastic and I think I would actually be sad if they bumped it back which they would not do because there's money involved and yes there's never going to be a rollback of financial things we obviously know at this point

55:34but man I wouldn't be mad if the playoffs were starting like tomorrow it wouldn't be mad about it I'm just maybe this is a kind maybe the comment on the job or whatever but I don't know I don't know that's what people people people come tune in to hear about how overworked we are obviously and I'm going to give it to him I'm going to give it to him man the baseball seasons too long I think 148 would be the perfect number for you your boy yeah and I don't even look at it caring about you at all because I don't I just think for the product like do you want the best teams winning at the end of the year because I got to tell you you don't get that now maybe you wouldn't get that anyway to be honest but it's just it's I can only use this here as an example but like updating the magic number every every day it's been like the brewers are the one seed and the fillies and cubs are going to play them because they're the four in the five and they've been like locked in for weeks and weeks and at some point it's like we obviously no matter when you set the deadline

56:36there's going to be I get it yeah I get it like this is what it is I get it I this is who's going to be we know who the best teams are in the end maybe the diamond backs will be maybe they sneak it up pass the boys I don't know what happened in today's games but like three weeks go if you would ask me out of set oh there's no are the podreds I should the podreds are going to get that's what time backs are going to make the playoffs and that's probably what's going to happen but yeah they've gone back and forth a little bit like you're always going to have that at the bottom like I stole things I've been playoff teams for four four to five weeks at this point yeah it's just it's just a little long for me that's all for me too Kurt for me too but we still have a couple more weeks of microbrewpods you still a couple weeks of the right there's what do you mean yeah well the Brewers have to clinch they could do that Monday they're off the Cubs play the Muck Cubs could lose but either way their their magic number would it would be one at that point

58:38with the government so yeah yeah well you know yeah top secret stuff yeah yeah you know we gotta keep guys that's fine did you go up listening to blue chase broadcast Tyler black dad did you did you listen to any of his yeah yeah honestly I didn't I wasn't made aware of that fact until recent so how crazy is that you know it's really cool yeah she gets to be teammates with him next so what was baseball what is baseball like an Ontario like I think I don't know if I assume it's just like the United States or like how would you describe I'm definitely different um you know over here definitely there's an understanding that baseball is very a prominent part of high school you know and that's a very important the development over in Canada there's a lot more emphasis in the baseball programs outside of school okay and that that was part of our come up but yeah you know it's growing over there and only becoming more popular and to get noticed obviously your brothers are both you know pro baseball players are cousin is a pro baseball player was it just there was a scout in the area who saw all of you guys or or is it going to camps like what's the

59:42what's the way to get noticed if you're a Canadian baseball player yeah I mean you know for for our journey it was you know we were part of the Ontario Blue Jays and it was like a year-round program and you know they have different age groups that's affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays no no I'm sure this like it's for the majority um separate but you know there's there's some events where um you know they they were closely together at least when I was coming up but for the most part um they they handled that and helping us getting exposed that being like tournaments in Canada or driving over to the United States and various states that can help us get that exposure so you how much United States played did you have like was it 50-50 or was it not just a special honestly I would say it was the it was a majority so it's probably like 70-30 oh interesting yeah yeah yeah from where I'm at probably like an hour from from Buffalo yeah okay very good I know you haven't been in Milwaukee the Milwaukee organization very long but just Cleveland is

1:00:43similar right like a small market team that's competitive do you feel those similarities and what you've seen so far where is that you know I don't know maybe it maybe it's pretty different no yeah there's definitely a lot of similarities in terms of especially the the way they play the game both teams you know the emphasis on is on taking care of the ball both on defense I don't know offense playing the game hard and never taking uh never taking a break you know every pitch is important and honestly a lot of emphasis is in the clubhouse making sure that you know the group that's in there whether you know that staff or the players you know everyone is close and you know just pulling on pulling on the rope in the same direction okay do you want to ask about your playoff moments you're on third base for David Fry's home run David Fry former Brewer's farmhand but just tell me tell me what you remember about that that's a walkoff home run in the in the well LDS yes yes yes yes yeah um no I felt like that moment happened in slow motion you know um which is crazy you know even still to this day sometimes I think about it or I'll see it on the internet and

1:01:43feels like I'm reliving it again but yeah that was special moment to be able to get that win especially in that fashion um and especially it being David Fry you know he's he's an amazing person great guy for the team and you know someone that um it's really easy to cheer for so to be able to see that it was him that got it done I just made that moment even more special how about your playoff from our last year that's Detroit was that yeah yeah yeah that was definitely special as well it's to be able to hear the crowd behind it and uh just kind of give the team that uh that push uh was awesome you I assume get to watch Josh then on his play you know he obviously had a very good postseason last year or two are you watching that on TV or you're going to games how about you both you know it's fortunate enough to to be able to be there at times in uh in person um which is awesome any playoff atmosphere special um when you know that there's a whole group of people cheering for your brother uh that makes it even more special so being able to see him and his success happen is uh it's awesome and um every time I get to see it I'm super happy for him you chess guy yeah a little bit

1:02:43a little bit yeah yeah yeah started with uh Stephen Kwan um you know yeah he's my boy all right uh we've been really close ever since we got drafted and um he's the one who sparked the love um and honestly when I was in Cleveland it was an easy way to get um uh connected with the community over there as well um having those chess club events but yeah yeah just uh you know try to keep it going every now and then we'll play a couple of games all right last question just trying to encompass this season you know you had the home run in the playoffs and then this season there's been some time in AAA and now you're in a new organization like can you kind of describe what the world one has been or is it just you know just the next season in your in your career I don't know yeah yeah I mean you know at the end of the day it's one day at a time um just trying to be around the guys and enjoy the environment I mean I feel like every time you know talk to about it I I feel like I have to emphasize how welcoming everyone's been um from the time that I got here um yeah I can't thank them enough you know obviously it stands out from uh um the outside to see the the type of baseball that this team plays um but it's another level of it once you get on the
