Still scoreless here at Rodgers Place between the oil kinks and Saskatoon blades game one of their western conference opening round playoff series, just had a big tilt. Clark and Williams going out one another, impressive stuff from the boys.

1:05Yeah, Moons up in the booth with me now. Moona appreciate you taking some time here. Nice to see a little action just before we got back on the air. Yeah, yeah, it's these teams aren't easing themselves into the playoffs. Some spirit in the game. The oil kinks are the favorite going into this, but Saskatoon as you can see they've come to play, they're going to give this everything they've gotten in some and that's what you like. So I expect it to be a good series. Yeah, 100%. And you know, the oil kinks returning a lot of the same players that suffered the loss in game seven of a series that they led three one if memory serves last year. It's a big save by Snell, yeah, against Prince Albert. So now you get not only, you know, a new coach behind the bench, but you've got some players that have been there time before at least once. And I really believe that's going to serve them well this time around.

2:06Yeah, I think so. You're older, you're better and we've seen with the oil kinks, you've seen the progression of pushing your chips to the middle in 22 and winning a league championship. And then you're starting from scratch almost because you've put a lot toward, we've got a penalty shot. What? What happened? We got a penalty shot. I will get back to what I'm saying in a moment. The blades are up one now. Yeah, they are. The penalty shot. Wow. That has to have been a hand on the head to have been in the head because there was no kicking or hauled down on a break where anything. But what I was saying is when you go after a WHO championship and you're adding players and you're giving up either draft picks or young players along the way, then those older players move on to pro or to university.

3:06And then you're starting with a whole new group. And the oil kinks have done such a good job of turning that around pretty quick to now in 25, 26, being one of the legitimate contending teams in the WHO. And last year we saw it coming, so it coming on and having a lot of those players back. And yeah, they got a really good team. So good on, you know, general manager, Kurt Hill, the coaching staff, everybody is scouting staff because they have to go out and find those players to turn it around that quickly is it's not easy to do. And they've done his good job as anybody. Founding off a bit of a push here from the blades shots all even at eight, but the score now reads one nothing for Saskatoon. Oilers wise, they've been much better off defensively these last couple of games. I think it's, you know, finding consistency is one thing, but they seem to have found

4:09it's sort of a defensive blueprint that they can use here with some, especially some of the new players they've gotten the full tier and Dickinson and Murphy and how well they've helped settle it down on the defensive side of things. But overall, we've seen some results in the last couple that were very meaningful hockey games. I'll say they were coming off those two games against the Florida teams that didn't go well and the game against the Panthers, it just didn't have the zip that we thought maybe we would see. And I thought they played pretty well against the Lightning, just they didn't get the result and it is a results business. But seeing how Connor Murphy, Jason Dickinson, have fit in and have helped the team. You're right. Settle it down defensively and when you're not giving up as many high danger chances, it's amazing how good the goal tending looks after that and give the goalies credit, whether it was Tristan Jari in Utah or Connor Ingram last night in Vegas. They made key saves at key times and you needed those for the victories.

5:12But when you don't have Leon Dry side will available right now due to injury, that's a pretty big hit. He's one of the best teams or one of the best players in the NHL that you've got to change things a little bit, I guess, but you've got to be sharp defensively. The owners have been that. They're getting offence from all around, of course, I mean, Connor McDavid does Connor McDavid thinks Evan Bouchard has been incredible on the back and gets the game winner last night after Connor McDavid wins the draw and it was a tough battle against the Vegas Golden Knights. There were two big wins on the road. You're coming back home and that doesn't, as we found out, that doesn't really mean anything. It's not like it gets easier because you come back home. It doesn't and you've got Anaheim here tomorrow afternoon and they're playing well right now and their tops in the division, so an important game and the games against Anaheim with the Oilers previously the season have been pretty exciting games, which is high event

6:13usually. I don't know that that's what both teams are looking for, but that seems to be what we get. But we're seeing things starting to shape up in a good way for the Oilers as we're heading towards the playoffs and going into that road trip, you look at the standings, you can see that it wasn't a foregone conclusion, still isn't, you still got to get wins here along the way to make sure that you get in, but getting those two wins this week, that helps a lot. Yeah, absolutely. And again, some more opportunity coming up in the near future, but you look at who some of the teams around them have to play like Anaheim's schedule. It's a bit of a cupcake schedule moving forward. You've got some teams that are very beatable, Vancouver's in there, Calgary's in there, although Calgary's been pretty good lately. We've been pretty good lately. We haven't been pretty good lately, but Anaheim knocked them off and over time in the last possible second, literally.

7:13So it looks and Los Angeles was the one that Rob Brown highlighted to me, I mean they've got perhaps the easiest road in of all. So if you're Vegas, very fortunate last night to have picked up the loser point and not to drop to both points in that one. Yeah, and they've had a tough time with that loser point, that puts them at, was it eight, fifteen and three? I think in their last twenty six, I believe so, yeah. So it's been a tough go for them, and yeah, they're not out of the woods either. So they've got to string some wins together because you would expect anyway that the LA Kings are going to push and make it difficult on the teams that are ahead of them, you would think that desperation is going to go up and like Rob Brown pointed out their schedule isn't as difficult as others. So they're going to get some wins there along the way. So yeah, it's still on them to, and it's, yeah, going into the air, there was a lot of

8:16talk about Edmonton and Vegas being at the top of the division, and then you see Anaheim doing what they're doing, good for them. I mean, they've, they sped things up as far as getting back to being a contending team, probably a little quicker than most people would have thought, but good on them because they're legitimately good. Oh, definitely. And they, you know, despite the young roster, I think when you have coach Quenville in the mix, the expectation is going to be there that you are a competitive team, right? He brings that out of, out of players, and they have a nice mix of that youthful exuberance and some guys that have really popped off this year's, we get going with some dinner plan making at the end of the first period. It's going to be a good series. Yeah, it is. Where was I going with that? Quenville. Yeah, Quenville. Yeah, it's, he's got a nice mix to work with, but obviously he holds a big part of the reason why they are ahead of schedule in my opinion. Yeah, yeah, I think, I think so, but they, there's some good young players. I mean, you look at Carlson up front, you look at Seneca up front, Lakom on the back

9:21end. I mean, those guys are, they're, they're solid players and Zell Wager as well. I mean, local area guy that has fit in well. And then, you know, some older guys that are playing well, and the goal-tener to stall is, is, you know, it gives them a good start more, a lot more often than he doesn't. So, yeah, they're, they become a competitor on the way up. And San Jose, I think, is projecting that way. They're just not as far along in their development at this point, like within a year or two, they're probably going to see the, the sharks in a similar type situation. It's, you know, so good for Anaheim. And that makes for a good matchup tomorrow afternoon, which I am very much looking forward to when the ducks come here to town. There's a lot of red. As I look at the, the sports nets, the dots, the A-pads, it shows you how many games have been won or lost in the last five. The teams that are chasing Vegas in particular, but Edmonton as well, there's a lot of losing

10:22going on by San Jose and Seattle and, you know, and, you know, Seattle and LA both picked up wins, but those are two teams that were hard pressed to find victories. LA was finding points, they're finding loser points, but they're not finding full-fledged victories. So, I mean, they may creep in there ahead of Vegas or into a wildcard spot, but Nashville is staking their own claim to things. They've won a bunch of games in a row, too. Yeah, yeah. It's, it's incredible what they have done. I mean, we've, I thought anyway going into the year that Utah would be very competitive, and they have been. I don't know that I expected Nashville to be as competitive as they've been, and good for them. They're, they're a team that, that plays hard and they're pushing here at the end, and that's the beauty of, I think. I mean, maybe I don't know why everybody's going to agree with me, but I love that it's hard to get into the playoffs in the NHL, because I remember the time when there was 21 teams and 16 of them got in, and you'd have some teams that would be well below 500.

11:28I mean, we didn't have the loser points like we do now, but it would be well below 500 that would get into the playoffs and would usually get bounced early, and that would be that. I liked that it's hard. It makes the regular season much more meaningful, and now, and I mean, the loser point does keep teams closer, so there is that, not that I make like a huge fan of the loser point, but I get why it's there. It keeps the bottom closer to the top, but it makes these, like, these games, you know, tomorrow afternoon, I mean, it's an important game for both these teams, for positioning, but also, I mean, you got to make sure you get that, that X by your name that says that you're in the playoffs, so it makes a lot of games, you know, late in the season, a lot of fun, and how difficult it is to get into the, to the playoffs, and you look at the other side in the east, and how tight that is, and every day it's changing, like, it's crazy. Like, there's going to be a couple of really good teams not get in, you know, Detroit's

12:29kind of on the outside looking in right now. I mean, Boston's like right there, and they're pushing Ottawa's had this little resurgence here, and now they're in a position, but it's incredibly, you know, the margins are incredibly tight, so, yeah, it's fun. It's fun time, because, you know, now all these games, most, not all of them, I mean, some of them are, you know, two teams that are out and have no chance to get in, but for the most part, the games have been a lot of fun. Yeah, they sure have. Yeah. Kamu and upstairs with us, but you recognize that voice, of course, he's calling tomorrow's game, 130 in the afternoon, for the freezing brothers, puck drop, noon, city forward face off show. Yes. Get going early. I love those mid, I love the bat neck. You just get up and get at it. Yeah. You know what I mean? There's no waiting. Are you going to get the later, you know, especially we have the later game and all that. No, we just get up and just get going. Like, there's something so right about that. Want to save a couple minutes here to talk about baseball, because I know how much you

13:31love it. Yeah. Seasons going now. Dodgers. I can't stand to look at them, but there's an absolute wagon. We have a team, a glorified all-star team for all intensive purposes. And the Blue Jays are back in the fold here, looking to sneak one past the athletics on Rogers Center turf. So what have you recovered from the excitement of the World Series victory? Oh, wow. That was, just let me tell my story, if you don't mind. Of course. That night. That game seven was here. It was on while the others were playing. That's right. And then it was, it was put on the video scoreboard. And I'm trying to call the game and the crowd was making noise when nothing was happening on the ice, which is really weird, because then all of a sudden your eyes go up and you look at the screen, but then the play's going on and you're missing something. So I was like, oh, my God, I really have to watch the hockey game. It was very distracting.

14:32And I'm a Dodgers fan. I like the Jays. If the Jays were playing anybody else in the World Series, I would have been 100% on board with it. But I could not go against it. It was my first love. It goes back to like 77. The Jays were just started. So I was like, I can't watch this. I can't watch this. And then it ended the way it did because then it was off the video scoreboard. So I couldn't see what's happening. And we have the TV up to our left. And I know Bob was like keeping his eye on it and stuff just so that we could give updates. But I can't watch it because I'm calling the game. So it all went down the way it went down. I saw the highlights after it. It still didn't really make sense to me. So we went on the road the next day when we got back after like a two or three game trip. I sat down and went pillar to post and watched the entire game because I got to see this. And after I watched it, I'm like, I don't know how the Jays didn't win. They should have won that game like four different times over. It was unbelievable.

15:34Yeah, that was incredible games. The entire series actually, the entire run of the blue Jays, amazing drama. I think of the Seattle series, the New York series, obviously the Los Angeles series. Just incredible drama. Baseball playoffs to me is just, yeah, the highs and the lows are incredible. I'm so excited that that the regular season's starting. Yeah, absolutely. And it's just the visuals of it for me. The sea and the green hockey is so exciting for the reasons the game provides you. It's physical. It's fast. The goals are exciting electric. There's animosity, right? But baseball, it's beautiful to look at just the green grass to be the backdrop. I mean, to me, it's a clue that summer is around the corner to have it going and it feels like it's, I know it's not any earlier this year, but it kind of feels like it because of the WBC. Yeah, yeah, it's right because we got into it earlier at the WBC. How about that? Yeah.

16:35What a great event that is growing. I love what Canada, they got to the quarterfinals first time ever and gave the Americans a pretty good go, which said something about baseball in our country. And you know, seeing a little bit of Alberta content in there that tells you a little bit about how baseball in Alberta continues to grow. I love the game. I love like with Major League, I've been fortunate enough on road trips to see college baseball in the US at a bunch of different places, which I appreciate, but whether it's the River Hawks or, and this is how, like, this is how big of a baseball in there I am. And I hate to even admit it, but it's true. Like I will, if it's summertime, I will take a look at the, the, the, the bail schedule, the baseball Alberta, the elite league. And if I'm in Edmonton, I will, you know, I'll go see a game in St. Albert or at Wally Futs or in Short Park. If I'm in Red Deer, I'll go down to Great Chief Park.

17:35Like I will go check out a game, you know, the best 18 U players in, in the province, because when I coached in the league for a while and I really like it, but I, I just, I like the game. So yeah, I will catch games in and around town, John Fry. I see games at John Fry Park sometimes too. So yeah, I love it and it's great to see Major League Baseball back and, you know, yeah, I just, I, I do consume a fair bit of it over the summer and a lot down it down at Remax and watching the River Hawks, of course. I can't wait to get Lamperman back on the show and start talking River Hawks. Absolutely. Cam, thank you so much for helping me kill a little time here on a Friday evening. I appreciate you. 20:41Unfortunately, Kellen was alluding to the blue jays bullpen and how that might provide a roller coaster ride a little earlier on while how about a solo homer and then a wild pitch. No less. Yeah, I didn't want to call that one for the first game of the season but it appears to be correct at this point. But 822 looks like maybe the bottom of the ninth year for a jays and I still got only one out so we'll see what happens but. Yeah, we will. It's still so good that it's back. I love chatting with Moon or two just two in the foul with him. It's always a good conversation.
