Packers' Cornerback Need: Pons or Later Picks?

The Green Bay Packers desperately need help at cornerback after skipping free agency signings

and lacking a first round draft picked this year.

A recent mock draft from Pro Football Focus has them grabbing Indiana's D'Angelo Ponds

at pick number 52 in the second round.

Ponds stands out as a talented defender who helped his team win a national championship

last season.

Ponds put up strong numbers with 11 passes defended, a pick 6 and more than 60 tackles.

At 5 feet 9 inches and 182 pounds though, he's got a big drawback in size that limits

his versatility.

Packers fans are scratching their heads over wide general manager Brian Guterkunst has

ignored the position for so long.

Many see Ponds as a solid slot corner prospect, but that's not the main gap on the roster.

Green Bay already has Jaffan Bullard handling nickel duties just fine.

Their outside spots rely on Keishan Nixon and Carrington Valentine, so they truly need

taller corners who can match up on the boundary.

Experts suggest passing on Ponds for later options like 6 foot prospects, Keith Abney or

Chris Johnson, who better fit the outside role as the draft.
