Coming up, we have news about a former Yankees starter, not good news.
The aforementioned team USA against Mexico game was a little too exciting for our tastes.
We're going to discuss that.
And the Yankees farm system has plummeted to the bottom of the list, basically.
But before we get to that, we have a couple of spring training updates, nothing too surprising,
right?
No, definitely not.
It kind of we alluded to it yesterday, actually, with no knowledge that they were going
to announce these things on Mondays, on Monday, but kind of made sense to the both of us,
right?
Oh, definitely.
Yeah, it wasn't.
I'm sorry.
I zoned out there for a second.
Yeah, no, I was not shocked by this news at all.
Yeah, and it made sense to me, the first of it being Spencer Jones not making the major league
roster is going to be optioned out of triple light.
It finished the rest of spring training down in triple A. And to me, this made the most
sense just because you gain nothing out of having Spencer Jones make the team out of opening
day.
We know what he is.
And we know he needs to work on things.
And if you plan on trading him, all you can do is decrease his value by bringing it up
to the major league level.
Right.
If he plays really well in the major leagues, you're going to have a lot more hesitancy
about trading him.
And if he struggles in the major leagues, his value plummet's already more than it's plummeted
in the last few years.
Right.
So there's no reason and no advantage calling up this early, so they made the right call
on that one.
Right.
The other news, along with Jones, Elmer Rodriguez was also optioned to triple A, not much
of us as there either.
I don't know.
When we went over the bullpen again, with the news of win question and being the rule
five pick and the Yankees being so in love with him as they are, we already went over.
There's really only one roster spot available in the bullpen and he wasn't going to be one
of those guys that made that maybe, maybe you'll see him towards the end of 2026 injuries
could certainly help get there a little quicker.
But right now, which was not the time for Elmer Rodriguez, it is interesting though.
La Grande stays on the Major League roster.
Even after all this, they sent the guys down to the minor leagues and he stayed up, which
is kind of impressive.
Yep.
We'll see what happens there.
And Max Fried was named opening day starter by Aaron Boone that is not surprising at
all opening day is March 25th.
It's March 10th when this episode goes up.
So just about two weeks away in San Francisco, Max Fried will be on the bump.
He threw 67 pitches on Monday night, six K's, zero walks, two hits, one earned run.
Yeah, and Carlos Rodom was actually out there two throwing a bullpen earlier on Monday
as well.
So that's some positive news also glad to see the set of Max Fried.
I do like how we're in a different era now of starting pictures where some guys like
to throw in games and live ball on all those kind of things.
And then there's guys who like Max Fried who like to do the majority of their work behind
the scenes and just do work at their own pace and then give me two or three spring starts
and that's about it.
He's good to go.
So I like how they like guys work at whatever pace they enjoy to work at.
Yep.
All right.
So we tease this on the show on Monday show that we're going to talk about this because when
I saw this come out, I thought to myself, who boy, because we talked about the Yankees
farm system not being in a great position because they were at 22 as of the 2025 mid season
ranking, which kind of carried over into the off season.
But now it's come out that they have dropped to 26 in MLB pipelines farm system rankings.
We spoke about how the brewers leapfrogged over the Dodgers for the number one spot, but
now the Yankees are number 26.
Yeah.
And those two teams that you just mentioned, burrs and the Dodgers being one and two respectively
in baseball, that's what bothers me more about this.
I know the Yankees have been good the last decade and I know that they've made trade
and have been involved with the deadline pretty much every single year in the last decade.
The problem I have with that is the fact that other teams are doing the exact same thing
that Yankees are doing and they find a way to keep their farm system competitive.
What is the Dodgers farm system consistently ranking the top five in the sport?
Now it's in the top three, but you get my point.
Yeah.
And yet every single trade deadline, they're involved in making moves and upgrading
their roster.
So why are they able to do it and keep their farm system afloat while the Yankees just
keep sinking and sinking and sinking to me, that's not good enough.
Again, if other teams were in the same position they are in where the excuse kind of lies
at, oh, well, they're making deals at the deadline.
It's kind of hard to keep up.
I would understand, but there's teams that are the brewers at the best record in baseball
last year.
And the Dodgers won the World Series and they're one and two.
So to me, there's no excuse to the Yankees.
You would seem that the brewers that don't have the financial means the Yankees have.
The Dodgers that do have the financial means the Yankees have, both of them come from different
areas of the sport.
And neither of these teams are drafting high any year in the last decade.
And yet both of them rank at the top two in the farm systems in baseball and the Yankees
are in the bottom five.
And really, I mean, this is ridiculous and quite honest.
It is the one thing that is truly pathetic about the Yankees organization right now, as
it stands.
Right.
So their midseason rank, as I said, was 22.
The preseason rank in 2025 was 22.
And midseason 2024, they were 18 and 2024 preseason.
They were ranked 11th.
Yeah.
So, I mean, you talk about those years with how much we believed in that farm system and
how much, you know, we looked the Yankees farms as a bonus, right?
And a plus and ranked 11th in 2024.
And you think about all the prospects they've hung on to and they've refused to trade
out deadlines.
All those guys that have not become superstars by any means and have not become really anything.
That's what you're concerned you a lot about what the farm system is on these guys that
have you refused to call up that haven't really made moves in the major leagues and you
refused to trade these guys or you call them up and jerk them around.
Yeah.
It much ruined their career as well.
Yeah.
And there's and there's plenty where that's coming from.
You know, I don't think Cabrera's turned out to, I mean, he's a nice player, but I don't
think he's turned out to be the player that you kind of thought he was going to be.
Volpe certainly as as this moment hasn't become the player that you thought he's been in.
There's a bunch of examples of this of Yankee farm players.
I mean, who's the real Yankee pro there's only a few Yankee prospects you can name that
were top tier prospects over the last decade plus that have really tuned that turned out
to have really great major league careers.
Right.
I mean, Gary Sanchez looked like he was on that path certainly didn't get to the point
where he thought he was going to be, right?
Right.
Judge for short developed.
I think it's fair to say, Labor Tories developed into a really nice major league player,
right?
Luis Severino is a formidable starter.
I wouldn't call him an ace like we thought he was going to be, but he's a starter.
And they've done a decent job developing both pen pieces, but Stacy, I mean, can you name
the guys that have all came out of the Yankee farm system around the major leagues that
have become studs, Gary Whitlock for sure, really good player Caleb Durbin, really good
player.
It seems like the prospects they've traded very easily.
My mind about I had have become superstars around baseball.
They let Whitlock walk in a rule five drift and they traded away Durbin.
Both guys are top tier players in their team, both actually have to be red socks right
now.
Which is even more devastating.
That's so annoying.
Yeah.
But you think about that.
And then couple that with the players, they refuse to trade that are currently, one of
them is currently doing a podcast on his couch name, Clint Frazier and the other one,
Miguel and Doohar is trying to hang on to a major league career.
Those are guys they were fused to let go of for a year.
So it is frustrating.
You look back at how highly ranked this Yankee farm system was compared to where it is now
where it's at the bottom, dwell or the league, really non impressive stuff at all.
Yeah.
So right now they're between the Rangers at 25 and just above the Rockies at 27.
Pathetic.
Yeah.
We mentioned this last week the Yankees have four guys in the top 100, according to MLB
pipeline.
There are different lists.
We're going by MLB pipeline.
George Lombard Jr.
Is the number one Yankee prospect number 32 overall for MLB Carlos Lagranhe is number 79.
MLB Rodriguez 82 and DAX Killbee is number 94.
And the DAX Killbee one I think it's a little 94 is a great ranking for him to be at with
his age and when he was drafted, I put that to get a lot higher as the years go by.
He was just drafted this past season.
Which to me is more impressive that he's turning.
He's turning 20 this November, I believe he's he's young.
By the way, this kind of leads into our next segment, Stacey Roman Anthony, who had a really
good game for Team USA 21 years old.
Yeah.
MLB pipeline put this in the article.
They said this was the good news for the Yankees.
They have a strong quartet of top 100 prospects, who we just named.
They think that Lombard Jr. could be a potential 25, 25 shortstop, meaning 25 from 25 steals
which is not common.
Oh wait, I mean, freeze that at all.
Normally you would say 30, 30 or 20, 20, but 25, 25 is not very formal.
I was breaking my brain when I was looking and I'm like, okay.
And nearly ready, righties, Lagranhe and Rodriguez.
We mentioned Rodriguez was just sent down to AAA, Lagranhe is still up with the Yankees,
but I think it's more likely that he will be sent down at some point unless something
catastrophic happens.
I agree.
I won't.
And then it says, I love this, a precocious killby, a supplemental first rounder from
last July.
Whoever wrote this article was really getting their SAT words into the day.
I appreciate it.
Yeah.
There's a line in an 80 song that mentions precocious.
So that's the tune that's in my head.
And then they said, the bad news, beyond that group, Reidy Ben Hess and Outfielder Spencer
Jones, the depth falls off dramatically.
The result of New York trading in industry high, players who appeared on the top 30 since
the start of 2025, they also ranked first with 21 pictures on their current top 30.
Which is amazing considering all the pictures they've traded away in the last four years.
Yeah.
And they've done a good job developing pictures, but I don't love being in that spot.
21 of your top 30 prospecting pictures because more often than not, there was the, that's
the position player that doesn't pan out.
Right.
So I don't love that seeing that Ben Hess, I'll say this.
It's time to start hearing a little bit more about Ben Hess as the season goes on.
It's time to get going because we've heard this name for a couple of years now.
And it's time to get the wheels rolling here.
Like show me that you're a potential major leagueer in the future or not, but it's time
to, it's time to get going there from Ben Hess.
Is he a triple A yet?
Do we know?
No, I don't think so.
I think he's starting the year double A.
Right.
So again, this is my third season on the show.
We have been talking about Ben Hess on our minor league segment every year that I've been
on the show so far.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Prove something to me and show me that you're a potential future major leagueer.
Right.
Coming up next, Team USA played a pretty exciting game against Team Mexico.
We're going to talk about it.

I think the episode was good, but you guys did the judge of it.
Let me know what you think.
Team USA versus Mexico.
This was our first chance this calendar year of 2026 to really get the heart rate raising
when it comes to baseball, right?
Really picked up really great game.
Tons of great game play, great pitching.
This was a fun one.
No.
Yeah, I have fun.
I, you know, if you know, I live with my mom who's going to be 80 soon and I scared
her on one of Bobby, which junior's going to play is because I clapped really loud and
I felt bad because she was falling asleep on the recliner.
But, you know, there were some good plays happening in the game, both ends actually.
Both sides.
Yeah, I think I think Bobby would junior and Aaron judge with the storylines of this
game, both in the field and with the bat.
Bobby with junior is, I mean, we know he's a great player, but he's really showing off
how unbelievable he is so far in this tournament.
The plays he made in the field are the kind of plays that you sit there and stare at your
TV and just say, how did he do that?
Right.
I played, how did he get to that ball?
That combined with the bat, the speed he has in the base path, Stacy.
I mean, this is one incredible young player to the point where, and I know he's an ultimate
humble guy and pulls his teammates up, but Aaron Judge in the post game interview with Ken
Rosenball said about Bobby with junior that he is, quote, the best player in the game,
which I think is a little bit of a stretch for Aaron Judge.
I love Bobby with junior, but I don't like that high.
When you think of all around, he is one of the best players because he does it from every
facet.
Like you said, he hits the ball.
He can play defense and he runs the bases amazingly well.
Yeah.
And speaking of being out there in the field and playing well, Aaron Judge, I mean, the
throw that he makes, first of all, the first thing I thought of was, oh, well, that elbow
issue from last year is completely gone.
Yeah.
I think about being perfectly healthy because he let, we've seen this a bunch of times with
Judge in the past, the Yankees and amazingly, every time he makes one of these throws, you
see the runner on first base, and you know, he's going first to third on a play like that.
And it almost appears like Aaron Judge is not putting effort into the throw.
Yeah.
It looks like he's just tossing it back into the infield and kind of giving him the first
to third and just, you know, because they teach you that in youth baseball, just get the ball
back into the into the infield and let them have first to third, don't make any more
errors in the field.
And he lets go with that ball like 146 miles an hour and just guns him out a perfect bounce
right to the third baseman.
I mean, drills the runner.
I mean, it was really impressive that that throw, it doesn't look like he's playing that
much crazy effort and makes an unbelievable throw.
And then one more highlight to make on Aaron Judge in his fieldings, they see, and these
kind of things go a little unnoticed, but I'd like to point it out.
Between the ninth inning, the first hit of the ninth inning, they Mexico has a legitimate
chance to get involved in this game.
There are no outs.
Whitlock looks a little nervous.
You can see on his face.
And the first picture of the inning is driven right down the right field line.
Yeah.
I'm sorry.
Up the bat.
It looks like an easy double.
And you, there is such a difference between starting the inning off with a runner on first
and a runner on second.
Yeah.
It's such a difference.
Especially in a two run game, especially in a two run game, somehow, some way Aaron Judge
gets to that ball down the line and his arm is so strong that they refuse to even test
it by sending the runner second base changes the whole thing keeps the force at second base
alive.
All of it.
That's going to be good for that.
That's going to be good for the Yankees too, because people knew to run on him because
they knew that his elbow was not feeling well.
So now that you, because that was the main reaction to that play from Yankee fans on social
media.
The elbow is feeling good because he looked completely different than he looked towards
the end of the 2025 season.
So that was really great.
That combined with the home run that he pretty much took out of the catches goal.
Well, that's what I was just going to say because he ends that inning with the throw to
third and then he comes up to bat and hits the home run and puts the US up to nothing.
I mean, what a player.
I mean, and that ball again, too, that they kind of described on the broadcast, but he
knows he's so strong that he can actually afford to be late to like wait for that ball
to tell you where it's going to be in the zone.
Yeah.
And he's still going to make content and push it out to right field.
I mean, his power is unbelievable to be able to do that.
Reminded me a lot of the DJ Limehue home run in the ALCS.
I know we don't want to read that, but remind me a lot of that home run.
I know it's it's a look very similar and it's still.
I know that playing there this whole week, but it's so weird hearing people cheer for
Aaron Judge in Houston.
Not really, by the way, because that crowd was was, I mean, oh, well, okay, Mexican fans.
I mean, wow.
All right.
Yes.
On Monday night, it was very Mexico centric, but there were USA, but I mean, can we, I mean,
not for nothing.
I mean, I'm fully rooting for USA in this tournament, but like give it, give a couple
claps for the Mexican fans showing up in that stadium and they filled it.
They were, they are really in support of their team down there.
Another storyline, too.
And this was only, it was short, but I mean, it has to be mentioned.
How does anybody make contact against Paul Skins?
I mean, watch him pitch.
It's incredible.
He threw a 98 mile an hour sinker.
How do you, how do you even, I would just be, well, I obviously, some blinded one, I don't
play baseball, but I've just be standing there like, I can't do anything against this.
I don't know how many of it, you know what, and it's crazy, too.
It's not even the speed and movement that make him so amazing.
It's the late movement.
Like, it's bad enough that it's moving at 98 miles an hour and it's bad enough that it
has three or four inches of vertical movement, but it moves so late.
It drops.
It's like a ripple ball.
It literally, it's between that and his slider and then the, and so he throws the sinker
that runs back in, the slider that runs away.
And then if neither of those work, he's going to throw a 101 pass.
And just pass you.
Right.
It is remarkable how good he is.
I mean, it's, it's, I'm glad that he actually has the guts to pitch for this team.
The rest of the World Baseball Classic, that is a signal to Tarek Schooble, who announced
earlier in the day on Monday that he is heading back to Troy Tigers camp and not pitching.
And I get it from both sides.
I hate it from a team USA perspective, but I understand what Schooble's doing.
I would like to bring up one thing, Bobby would made those two really great diving stops,
but Bryce Harper made two good plays on the other end of those two diving plays.
So I just want to give him his flowers because he's having a rough time at the plate, but
he was able to say he's a, he's a tremendous fielding first baseman.
And I understand he's having a rough time at the plate, but he's also one of those guys
that kind of on an instant turn around at the plate.
So I'm not really concerned about him whatsoever.
Yeah, I do want to bring this up because you did text me during the game when this happened.
And it's, it's worthy of noting because I'm sure most Yankee fans got, you know,
heard this and thought the same thing we did.
It's really annoying to hear Ken Rosen doll say on the broadcast that Aaron
Judge and Bryce Harper developed a relationship in the 2018 offseason when
Judge was trying to recruit Harper to be a Yankee.
Like knowing that their buddies and get along,
knowing that he wanted to be a Yankee desperately.
And that judge is like his closest friend on an opposing team.
And it literally just came down to the Yankee's band like, we're good.
It's devastating.
It is so annoying.
One final thing on skeen.
So he went for it in seven strikeouts, which is insane.
He's so good.
He really is amazing.
Nice job there.
Oh, yeah, Roman Anthony hit a big home run.
Yeah, we should mention that.
So he's going to be so annoying.
But right now, I'll root for him because he's wearing team you across.
He's 21 years old.
Yeah, he's 21 years old.
And the ball that he hit was a bomb.
Yeah, but he is he is so good and so young.
And the red socks gave him the extension that in the offseason,
we kind of thought was a little bit premature.
It might not have been right because paying that paying that kid $17 million
a year might be in in same bargain in a few years.
He's going to be an incredible player.
By the way, just backscenes for a second because it's hard to not marvel at him.
What the heck kind of contract is he going to sign in like four years?
I don't know.
The better he gets to, the more it assures me,
there's a 0% chance he's a pirate for the rest of his career.
No, they have to trade him.
And the package is going to be nuts.
But if those four guys are talking about the Yankees,
the four top prospects they have,
give every single one of them to the pirates for ball schemes.
He's that good.
Yeah, he is that good.
All right, coming up, news from around the league,
including not so great news about a former Yankees starter.
Next.
Guys, college basketball is nonstop.
There's big games, tight spreads, momentum swings,
every single night.
And from early tip-offs to late-night West Coast shootouts,
there's always action available on the board.
And now, Fandall is giving you a way to turn that energy into a bigger potential win

Stacy, some news from around the league.
Your favorite segment of the week that's not
including a miner's Tuesday or Monday.
Whatever we're calling it this year.
It's a pretty good segment.
Jordan Montgomery, former Yankee Great, will be placed
on the 60-day IEL by the Texas Rangers with an elbow issue.
Kind of devastating from Montgomery.
He's had a solid career.
He really has.
And after becoming available and really making the
days of decent career for himself,
landing on here with the night with the elbow issue,
not what you want to see.
This isn't the first time he's had an elbow issue, right?
No, and he's become a guy that you kind of want to avoid
when it comes to signing out there.
Because he just, I mean, he doesn't stay healthy.
He's had a decent career.
He's got, you know, I'd call him a number four,
number three on a good day, 46 and 41,
but a 403 ERA and 166.
A lot of folders in there.
Yeah, which you love.
But, okay, not tremendous numbers,
but also not great numbers.
Kind of sad to see in his return to Texas.
So we wish the best for Jordan Montgomery,
of course, coming back.
Hopefully he's able to get healthy and get back this year.
Sources are confirming that Monday night,
the Phillies and Hazel Zardo have agreed to a
$535 million deal.
It's an extension to stay in Philadelphia.
Do you think it's a little, a little strong?
With the money wise for Hazel Zardo?
Let's see, five.
He's got decent numbers, but I've never thought
of Hazel Zardo as, you know,
that kind of player in the honest with you.
It's never, it never fits me for that kind of number.
Would five years 120 be better for him?
Maybe, I mean, let me go over the numbers for you, right?
So last year he was 15 and 7,
with a 392 ERA.
That's a good numbers,
but that kind of deal to get.
32 starts gave him 183 innings,
216 strikeouts is really impressive.
Yeah, he's a good player,
but it does feel like this deal.
They're paying him a little more based on upside
than what he actually is.
He had good numbers in Miami,
but never any ARA under three.
Again, the strikeout numbers have always been there
for him. He strikes out a ton of guys,
but it does feel like this deal.
It just, it feels like they're paying him a lot more
on what he potentially can do based
on what he's actually done in his major league career.
And sometimes that benefits you,
but this is a big, a big money deal for the Phillies,
especially to close out the sea, the spring.
Yeah, and, you know,
considering he was going to become a free agent
after this season,
what do you think of guys when they sign deals like this?
Like there are guys for sure,
the man named Machado's,
Bryce Harper's of the world,
who want to see free agency.
They want to see what player,
what what teams think of them.
They want to get, you know,
courted and they want to get these deals
offered to them and they want to see what people think of them.
That's all good and well.
There are also guys who just want to get their money
and secure their future for them and their families.
And you offer the guy $135 million,
and he doesn't want to go through their,
their dramatics of free agency.
And he's just like, you know what?
$135 sounds good to me.
I'll stay in Philadelphia.
Maybe that's what this is.
Like he just wants to stay there and he likes it there
and you handle this money.
He can't really blame the guy for that.
So that's to me what it feels like a lot,
a lot as other than that,
it was a slow,
it was a slow baseball day when it came to news.
Right, because most of it's the WBC.
Which I would, by the way,
I mean,
is doing a great job.
Yeah.
Like I'm loving it so far.
The passion that you're seeing from a lot of these teams,
there was skepticism on how the players
would feel coming into this.
These guys love it.
And that's why they're so fired up.
And that's not just the team USA, by the way.
Like all of these teams,
DR, they have the jacket.
Yes, yes.
Even Team Mexico,
Venezuela, Panama, Puerto Rico,
these guys love playing for their country.
Is they love what it means to them.
And honestly, like,
whether you were into the WBC or not,
as a sports fan,
it's kind of hard to watch this
and not get a little invested when you see the players
be as invested as they are.
Right.
When you see them be as passionate as they are,
it's hard not to get invested as just a fan, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I agree.
It's a lot of fun.
Yeah, I'm on the phone.
All right.
