Patriots' 2014 Draft Miss: Adams & Lawrence

In the 2014 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots had a shot at star-wide receiver Devonte

Adams, or Ed rusher to Marcus Lawrence with, their 29th overall pick.

Instead, they selected defensive tackle Dominic Easley, who ended up having a brief and

underwhelming pro career.

Easily appeared in just 41 games total across the league.

With the Patriots from 2014 to 15, he started only three of 22 games, recording three

sacks, 13 quarterback hits, and one interception before moving on.

At the time, New England felt set at wide receiver with Julian Edelman and Brandon the

fell, and on the edge with Chandler Jones and Rob Ningkevich.

Still, passing on those future all-pro talents picked right after looks like a big miss

and hindsight.

Devonte Adams went 53rd overall to the Green Bay Packers and built a stellar resume.

These earned three first team all-pro honors, hit 1,000 receiving yards six times, led

the league in receiving touchdowns three seasons, and reached his fifth title game, including

the NFC Championship in 2026 with the Los Angeles Rams.

Meanwhile, DeMarcus Lawrence, taken 34th by the Dallas Cowboys, became a second team all-pro

with double-digit sacks in back-to-back years, and ranks fifth among active players in

forced fumbles.

He won Super Bowl 60 with the Seattle Seahawks in 2026.

Honorable mention goes to guard Joel Baitonio, picked 35th by the Cleveland Browns, with

multiple all-pro nods over 12 loyal seasons.
