Patriots Sign Kevin Byard for Secondary Boost

The New England Patriots lost safety.

Jalen Hawkins to free agency, but quickly filled the spot by signing veteran Kevin Byer

to their defense.

Byer had a strong comeback last season with the Chicago Bears, earning his first Pro Bowl

nod and first team all pro honors since 2021.

When he played under Mike Ravel with the Tennessee Titans, fans and analysts see this

as a smart move for the Pats, especially since Byer brings proven reliability and could

boost their secondary right away.

At just 32 years old, he topped the league in Interceptions last year, with eight passes

defended, 93 tackles and four tackles for loss while playing all.

Seventeen games and back-to-back seasons.

Details from ESPN show it's a one-year deal worth $7 million, including a $3.5 million

signing bonus and $6.1 million, $7 million, fully guaranteed, making it a bargain for New

England.
