Paul Returns, Battles for Starting Guard Spot

Washington commanders Gargris Paul surprised many by signing a one-year deal to return to

the team on day five of free agency.

Reports had suggested he might land a huge contract elsewhere, but that did not happen,

so he chose to stay put.

Paul started the season as a backup on the offensive line.

After a rough week two loss at Green Bay, coaches shook things up, inserting him into the

starting lineup in week three.

He held the job for the remaining 15 games, stepping in after the team traded for left tackle

Laramie Tunsell and shifted Brandon Coleman inside.

Analyst Mark Paulson praised Paul as a solid player with room to improve in past protection

and run blocking.

He noted the new offensive scheme, under coordinator David Blow, should suit Guards better by improving

angles and consistency.

Someone added that while he is glad Paul is back, he does not see him as the automatic

day one starter.

Expect a battle and training camp between Paul and Coleman for the spot.

Tunsell voiced strong support, calling Paul a great teammate on and off the field.

Their bond grew last season, and he is thrilled to keep building the line together heading

into next year.
