A transgender defendant in New York pleads guilty to a sex crime involving a teenage boy and

is expected to be released into ice custody and deported.

This case is out of East Harlem in New York City.

Prosecutors say the defendant followed a 14 year old boy into a bodega near Thomas Jefferson

Park on February 11th of last year and sexually assaulted him.

The teenager flagged down bystanders right after the attack.

Police arrested the suspect the next day.

Contreras Suarez was originally charged with more serious counts, including first degree

rape of a child and stalking.

In court, the defendant pleaded guilty to second degree rape.

A Manhattan Supreme Court judge indicated a six month sentence because that time has already

The defendant is expected to be released from New York custody on April 27th.

The goal was to spare the teenager from having to testify in a grand jury and trial.
