To commemorate the Holocaust, volunteers from the Phoenix area community read the names of approximately 6,000 victims of the Holocaust on April 14th. This was an annual event and is referred to as: Yom HaShoah [YOM ha-SHOH-ah]) translates in English to Holocaust Remembrance Day. The volunteer groups read 10 names per minute in 30-minute shifts from 8 a.m to 6 p.m. throughout the 10-hour remembrance event. Their goal was to teach, to honor, and to remember those who perished.
