level of concern.
We'll see you at the tonight's game.
We get to San Antonio's first.
We get the chance to get a little bit of pay back here.
I'm looking forward to it.
Yeah, I'm a little concerned.
Certain things that we'll talk about as the show goes on, but there is a little concern
defensively for me.
Lockdown Pistons Squad Show starts right now.
This is Lockdown's Pistons Squad Show.

The Lockdown Podcast Network.
Make sure you like today's video.
Go ahead and subscribe as well.
And that intro just teased it up for us, fellas, because pre-show we're talking about
pickleball and diving for loose balls and getting intense on the pickleball court.
But we got to shift our conversation to the hardwood where the Detroit Pistons.
We'll be back at it tonight against the San Antonio Spurs.
We'll have a deep dive preview on that.
But first recapping Tuesday night's loss at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
And we'll just start it out, round table this thing out.
Your comments are welcome as well.
If you're watching us live, go ahead and sound off in the comments.
Let us know your instant reaction to that defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Cooke, I'll kick it to you first.
And then we'll, like I said, go round table on this thing.
The Pistons, I thought for me one of the more concerning things was JB Bickerstaff talking
about some of the instances throughout that game where the effort wasn't there.
That's just something that was a foreign, you know, foreign concept with this team that
just is just so uncharacteristic of the 20-26 Detroit Pistons.
Yeah, their defense was not up to snuff in this game, Jake, real quick, because they
give a peek behind the curtain, everybody.
I think he might want to swap the background for the recording as I think this is last
episode of the background.
Oh, I appreciate that.
Look at that.
Yeah, see, we're all over it right there.
That's where guys just keeping each other accountable and all over it, you know, that's
like a guy showing up to the game just, he didn't have his head in the game, you know,
like I would be sat down right now because, look at that, there's one click of the button
here.
Perfect.
And we are live and ready to go.
See, that's a veteran player, putting his arm around a rookie, like me saying, Rita,
get it together, man, this is the lockdown fist and squad show, we got to come out ready
to go.
So, hey, I'm putting myself on the bench and I'm going to have to have a word with coach
after this one.
That's on me.
I appreciate your attention to detail.
You're all good, you're all good.
Yeah, I thought the Pistons defense just wasn't that great against the Cleveland Cavaliers
and really since the All Star break, it hasn't been that great either.
And that is one of the more concerning things for me.
I, we're going to get further into it.
I don't want to spend too long here, hogging up the timing.
I want to give it to Lindsay, get his thoughts.
But I think the defense is what has been the shooting, obviously, you'd like to see them
make some more shots.
But I think the more concerning part for this team and this roster is the fact that the
defense hasn't been what we'd like to see it since the All Star break.
And it definitely wasn't what you wanted to see against the Cavs.
Absolutely.
I just can't imagine you would think the Pistons won as a game if you didn't see the final
score.
We all scored them in pain points.
We, you know, we actually shot with 37, 38% from the three, but we didn't make a lot
of them.
But I think the biggest concern right now is defensively.
We haven't been able to impact the basketball like we normally do.
We haven't been able to cut down driving lanes and that's without done of the Mitchell.
So that's a concern for me because when you let, you know, you let teams get to the
pain and get pain touches, it really throws your defense off.
And we had a lot of unexpected drives in that game against Cleveland where it seems like
guys had no idea that, you know, that situation was happening and that's not like the Pistons.
But cool, you mentioned it since All Star break, our defense hasn't been as sharp as it
was before.
Yeah, I almost texted you guys about halfway through the game in our Lockdown Fistons
group chat saying, I got my wish, they're, they're draining freeze from downtown.
That was my one wish.
And I was, I was thinking the game would go a little bit differently, just based solely
on my one wish, but obviously there's so many different components to winning a game
in the National Basketball Association night in and night out.
Let's talk a little bit about Kade Cunningham's performance, you know, a double digit assist,
obviously spreading the ball around, but struggled shooting just four of 16.
I don't think it's certain, you know, certainly any sound the alarm type of performance by
any means, but just a testament to some of the things that we've talked about at length
of finding, you know, other scores when Kade is having an off night, because that's
going to happen.
So Lindsay, I'll, I'll kick it to you first, just doing a deep dive on Kade's performance
in that game and how, you know, maybe it's when a guy, you know, your, your main horse
struggles a little bit, it's incumbent upon others to step up and aside from Jalen Dern
and a couple other guys offensively, you really lack some of that depth scoring.
Yeah, that's a concern when Kade has an off night.
I think, I think JB is going to do something different to make sure that, because a guy
like K, you can score a thousand different ways.
He can post up, he can, you know, score at the rim, and also can shoot from the perimeter,
but I think they'll find more ways to get him in the post to make sure he can get to
the free throw line.
I don't think how many times he goes to the free throw line.
Not many.
Like three or four times, that can't be, there can be a game that MVP caliber player goes
to the free throw.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
You're exactly right.
Two, two free throw shots.
Yeah.
So that can't happen, you know, that, that, and he has to take responsibility himself
and say, hey, sometimes your best friend has to put his head down and drive to the rim
and force the refs to make a call.
And I think we're at that point where K can't have, you know, he's going to have some
off nights, but his off nights still have to be, you know, 1920 points.
Yeah, Kade didn't have a great one in this one.
We've said that a few times since all start break, I'm not concerned about Kade.
Kade's going to play better.
He's going to be better.
This is one of the best players in the league.
He's going to be fine.
Guys have bad nights.
I think one of the, one of my concerns, or what are the, the, maybe not concerned, one
of the bad things I saw or tough things, however you want to phrase it in this game against
the calves.
And we talked about how Kade played.
I thought the calves a lot of the time sent two bodies at him at the top of the key.
And I talked about this on my podcast, yes, or two days ago, and I spent probably a
little bit too much time on it than I should have, but the segment was like 12, 13 minutes
long.
I apologize to everybody for making it that long, but what was happening in the first half
was they were trapping Kade a lot of the same two bodies at Kade and Kade would dump it
off the dirt on the roll.
And now you got a four and three situation.
And this is something I've talked about a lot.
I talked with Steve Jones, who was, who was a part of the, the dunker spot podcast.
He was a former coach in the NBA.
I forget who he coached for exactly, but former coach assistant coach, he coached some,
some of the league teams as well.
And he talked about this as well, that when this year, Darren has done such a good job
of attacking as a scorer in these situations, and kind of punishing the tagging offender,
because there's so much smaller than him.
What teams have countered with is now they're meeting him higher in his role.
They're not letting him get to the dotted line.
They're meeting him much higher, which then forced him to maybe make him move her to,
which he can do as a scorer, but more so it's to make him think and make him read the
defense.
And they try to send multiple buys at Darren.
And the first half I thought, and really at times throughout this year, he's been
too locked in as a scored where he hasn't seen like the outlet passes.
And I think the coaching staff noticed that as well, because the first play out of half
time was the same play, a pick and roll, they trap, you give it to Darren and Darren just
dumps up to a star cutting down the baseline to get a dunk.
I think the coaching staff noticed and mentioned it to him as well.
I think that's a clear counter to some of the, how can you create easy buckets?
How can you create some easier looks when it's not just Cade and Cade's not, you know,
hitting his shots is everyone else Cade's probably going to create an advantage more often
than not, whether it's for himself or for his team, he's going to create an advantage
somehow, whether it's four on three, whether it's getting to the lane and kicking out,
what the teammates around him have to do is especially against a team like Cleveland against
these elite teams and with how little student the pistons have, you have to execute those
opportunities and you have to execute those windows and make those right reads consistently
to get as easy points as possible when you're not as great of a half court team as the
pistons are in offense.
Right.
And to ask what you were talking about, and this is going to be ever evolving, Darren,
like the better he gets, teams are going to throw more looks at him, teams are going
to make him start thinking about making a play instead of just putting his head down
and, you know, out muscling teams.
And we call it the short role guys, like, you know, I think Drake Maun kind of revolutionized
the short role being and Darren is going to have to be a guy that can short role because
they're not going to let him just dive straight to the pain, dive straight to the circle
and catch and finish.
And that's another part of his game that has to evolve.
And like you said, who him catching it, reading, if there's a shooter in the corner, you
got to spray it.
There's a guy cutting baseline, you got to be able to make that pass and he's a really
good passer.
So I think that part of his game will evolve and it'll make the pistons that much better.
And it'll give guys opportunities to catch and shoot out on the perimeter, you know, other
than being fed by Kate.
And I think that'll help the pistons tremendously.
Yeah.
And tobacco what you said, Darren has shown multiple for years that he's capable of doing
like last year in the playoffs, he was against the nicks.
They destroyed the nicks doing that exact thing like they were just killing them over and
over because the nicks wanted to trap over and over.
So we know Darren can do it.
He does have some really good passing chops.
I just think that at times, like you mentioned at times, especially this year, he feels
the burden of we don't really have a secondary score.
That's me.
I've improved.
They need me to be aggressive.
And more often than that, it's worked out.
Just in these specific moments and some of these matchups, he's only 22 years old.
He'll develop it.
But like in these times, that is probably the better counter is, and then once you start
making those passes, now what do they do?
Now they don't want to meet you aside.
Now they don't want to give that extra, now you can just dunk every single time again.
Like it's a cat and mouse game.
I think they'll learn it.
But I think that was one of the things they can maybe improve on as well.
Absolutely.
No, I love the way you put that to just the burden that it can be to be that prominent
secondary score is part of just the evolution that is going to come with time.
It's going to come with the schedule ramping it up and down the stretch and into the playoffs.
And hopefully for all of our sakes, the goal for that to work out organically, which I believe
it will.
But this is the live lockdown pistons squad show.
I told you guys, we'll continue some of the housekeeping notes.
This is just our fourth show.
So just in case you're new around here, this is a live show that we'll do twice a week
in one of the beauties of the live show is we can mix in a few comments.
So we'll do a little Q&A towards the end of the program.
So save some of those questions.
But I did want to throw this one on the screen because it's a shout out to our guy who
coming from locked on calves and the way my mind works, would they, would they be shouting
you out?
Had this game gone a different way.
And it's the beauty of the rivalry.
So cool.
I'll let you take this one year, but I saw that pop up in the comments section.
And I was like, all right, I got to mention this because we probably wouldn't have heard
from them.
You know, we had a win over the calves the other night at LCA, we didn't hear anything
from locked on calves.
Shout out to you, Koo, and shout out to the locked on calves squad, tune in in here.
Yeah, Danny, Danny's that guy.
I appreciate Danny.
Danny helped me out with a lot.
The calves, and look, they got the last matchup, appreciate the shout out, but Danny's
cool.
He's a good guy.
Yeah.
And it's developing back into a great rivalry on the court.
And so we'll just keep the rivalry going within within the own our own locked on community
as well.
So appreciate that comment as well.
And guys, let's wrap up this first segment before we get into some of the other news and
notes from Tuesday night's game just by the discussion of bouncing back.
And obviously we'll get into that even more when we look ahead to tonight's game against
the San Antonio Spurs, but Lindsay, you know, the, the, the pistons had won six games
in a row on the road.
And you know, even our first show we had coming back after that loss to the Spurs, you
talk about kind of the, the mental process at this point in the season, not necessarily
the dog days, but you know, getting to that point where we, we're in March, you know,
and we are closing out the regular season, the importance of just resetting, regrouping,
putting the best foot forward against the Spurs tonight and what those conversations
are like within the pistons locker room.
Well, you know, we've, you know, we've played the Spurs, we've experienced playing against
Wimby.
We see what that's like.
They pose a lot of the same problems that Cleveland will pose.
They have a lot of guys who can dribble drive and create off the bounce.
They have a lot of guys who can space the floor and make threes.
So that's an area of concern that I think the business realized that we have to impact
the basketball.
And that guys that are attacking us get so deep in the paint, where it just, it shrinks
your defense so bad that those kick-out shots, they're, they're pot shots now.
Their guys are standing there tee and off.
I think what the cast may 17 threes against us.
And that's not because we were like late to a rotation.
That's because we had to help so often and we were drug out of position by guys, you
know, driving the basketball trader, trader, this drove us all night.
And I mean, and he created so much offense just by living in the paint and we can't allow
that.
That's going to be an area.
I know we're like topping the league and shot blocking shots, but sometimes you've got
to be able to contain a ball handler.
Yeah, I think just the backup Lindsey's point here, that has been their biggest weakness
or biggest weakness, I'd say, since all Starbreak before, they were incredible at this, but since
all Starbreak, this is what teams are shooting against the pistons from beyond the arc.
And how many threes they've made?
So Chicago and one of the first games back made 17 threes, they shot 42 percent, Santonio
made 18 threes, shot 45 percent, OKC made 18 threes, shot 36 percent, Cleveland made for
our 13 threes, shot 37 percent, and then they Cleveland again, shot seven or made 17 threes,
37 percent before the deadline, the piss is one of the best defensive three point shooting
teams in the league.
34 percent, they were tore, I think it was top five in the NBA.
They were doing a really good job of taking away threes from teams.
And a lot of that, like Lindsey mentioned, was due to them not allowing dribble penetration.
There's the best way to open up three point looks is to get dribble penetration, get the
ball to touch the paint for defense to rotate, force them to pay attention to the drives,
and then you can spray out for threes.
And they just have not, they have not stopped dribble penetration nearly as much since the
all-star break.
Something that I saw the calves do, which is something that you're absolutely going to
see in the playoffs from teams.
I'm interested in how JB decides to counter it is a star start to really make some crazy
plays in the fourth quarter defensively, especially at the beginning, but once he started
really getting going defensively, what they, they just sent him to the corner, whoever
he was guarding.
They sent him to the opposite corner and then they just said, OK, Duncan Robinson's man
come up.
We're getting you an inaction and a lot of times like you mentioned, Lindsey, it was
a shooter and shooter would then either get Duncan on a switch or Tobias on a switch.
And then he just get to the paint and whether it's his own finish with a quick right hand,
right foot scoop layup, or it was kicking out to a shooter, whether it's Jaylen Tyson
or whoever it was.
That was a problem for the pistons.
I'm sure that's what a lot of teams are going to do when you don't have multiple elite
point of attack defenders in your closing lineup.
Those are send the one elite one to the corner and say, we just won't involve you in any
actions.
Stay away from us and we'll just attack everybody else.
Absolutely.
Yeah, I want to continue that because that's my, I feel like I'm the Alan from the hangover
when his mind's going a million miles per hour and he's trying to connect the dots and
everything because I love this deep dive discussion.
I know our audience does too.
So let's, let's pay the bills, keep the lights on and then come back and keep that discussion
going right here on a live locked on pistons squad show.
Hey, today's episode of the locked on piston squad show is brought to you by five hour

Back with you on the live lock down pistons squad show Jake Riepma Lindsey Hunter Kuka
Hill and no long introduction.
Let's just keep it rolling talking about some of the levels of concerns and the pistons.
I would say defensive game plan going back to some of JB's comments post game after the
loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers was the discussion of lacking defensively and what that looks
like in kind of some potential ideas to combat what the opposition is doing and Kuhl kick
it right back to you because the on ball defensive stuff is fascinating because you talk
about a guy like Duncan Robinson who might struggle in that area, but you need him for
on the offensive side of the floor for his ability to stretch a defense and to knock down
threes and you know will eventually get to the conversation about carousel of hurt
and other role players that can can step up, but I just want to kick it back to you to
continue that conversation about the pistons defensive approach and what was lacking in
that loss against Cleveland.
Yeah, I think that there are things to be concerned about with the pistons, but more
so than saying concerned, I think it's just they're they have flaws.
They're a very good team.
They're a great team, but they have flaws.
And I think most teams in the NBA have flaws.
The only team that I'd say probably at full health just is it seems like the just perfect
team is OKC.
OKC feels like it has no faults and when they're fully healthy, you can just do everything.
So that's the only team.
So the pistons do have flaws just like everybody else.
And I think I've said this before in the pockets.
Yes, I went to even longer segment, sorry listeners for going too long.
But the calves I think in the east are the only team who are uniquely built to attack these
flaws because what they're able to do and you saw it against the against the calves is
that like I mentioned earlier, they were putting a star on James Harden and he was doing a good
job on hard and especially in that fourth quarter, he was causing a bunch of havoc.
And what they're able to do because they have multiple ball handlers, they can go to
and trust to make the right decision to get to the paint is they will just take hard
into the corner and let shooter run it.
And that's without down the Mitchell.
So now we're talking about a team that if you want to put a star on Mitchell, OK, they'll
go with hard and Mitchell will just stay out of the actions.
If you go with Mitchell, then Harden will say like they have multiple guys, they can go
at you with get to the paint force rotations and make the right read.
They don't have just four is either those guys are capable of making the right read once
they get to the paint.
I don't think New York has that New York doesn't have a lot of creators.
They don't really have Brunson.
That's why they struggle against the pistons.
Pistons can put a star on him, everyone else stays on one three point shooters.
It's tough to get threes off.
Same thing against Boston.
They kind of live with Jalen Brown, just playing one on one and they just stay home with
shooters.
If Jalen Brown is able to be efficient enough to beat you in a night, then so be it.
But they've won three of those matchups.
So I think that that defensive idea works with those teams is harder to do against Cleveland
because they have so many guys that you have to guard with and they have multiple guys
that can attack some of your weaknesses that you can't just hide somebody.
You can't just rely on, you know, your top tier defenders to carry you because they can
pick out some of the weak spots for the pistons.
There's, I think that again, I think the calves are the most equipped to take advantage of
it.
Doesn't mean I don't think the pistons can't beat the calves, but I think some of the
areas of concern or the, you know, all guy or the, do we need to be worried about the
pistons is more so just they went against the team that has their strengths are able to
attack the pistons flaws and I don't think many other teams are able to do that.
So just because the calves beat them and showed some of this doesn't make me think that they
can't beat some of these other teams.
I think the pistons are a good matchup just about versus everybody outside of few select
teams that can do this and I think Cleveland's one of them.
I agree.
I think the way the pistons neutralize their weaknesses is with their aggressiveness.
I think being aggressive, being physical, that's the way they've been doing it all season.
You know, flaws are going to be flaws and like you said, cool, every team has them, but
I think the pistons have overcame their flaws by being a little overly aggressive.
A bit bullies at times, but I think that's how they have to play.
I think they can't be, they can't sit back and wait and, you know, be passive and think
that, you know, they're going to just win games because they've been winning games.
No, they won games because they have out physical everybody that they've played and against
the calves, they didn't do that.
They got a little, they got a little more physical as the game went on, but it wasn't
the typical pistons game where they just, the physicality was at another level.
And I think that's the advantage that the pistons have over just about everybody in the league.
I think the only team that can actually be as physical as the pistons and play that way
is OKC.
I think San Antonio possesses some of the ability to do that and Denver.
But other than those teams, I think the pistons, when they're at their peak physical wise,
I think they can beat anybody and they can neutralize all the weaknesses that they have.
If I, if I may, Jake, just real quickly, I want to just go nerd a little bit.
I know I have the, I'm able to, I do that a little too often.
But I want to do some branded segments, maybe we got to do some kind of nerd segment
with, with good, I just want to say this too.
I want to say this because some back when I first started lacking on pistons, there
were a lot of commenters that were like, oh, have you never played?
You talk about all these, no, have you played?
Listen, one of the episodes with Lindsay, we got put, I'm going to put my highlight reel
on the screen because I, let me make it clear.
Let me make it clear.
I want everybody to comment and I will go out there and bust you know what?
I can do it, OK?
I'm just, I'm just able to talk as well.
I can do so.
So I'm going to show Lindsay, I have over there.
And we got to talk to the lockdown bosses about a live lockdown pistons on location,
you know?
That was more, a little key.
We've talked about having like a pick up session to show it off.
I think I take everybody out, but nonetheless, well, to back up like Lindsay was talking
about is I 100% agree the way the pistons have been able to neutralize some of the flaws
they have, like the shooting, it may be some of the not having the strongest defenders
at every position is because they've been physical and they've played in a way that what
I call it is possession maxing.
What the pistons have done is that we know that we're not going to beat you guys shooting
a bunch of theories.
We're not going to beat the greatest half court offense.
What we're going to do is we're going to have a lot more possessions in you.
So even if, again, here comes the nerd stuff, even if you guys score 1.1 points per possession,
we score 0.98.
But if we get double the possessions in you guys, it doesn't matter, like we're going
to win those games.
And just to put the numbers behind that, the pistons lead the NBA in the amount of possessions
they create over their opponent per game, 4.6, 4.6 possessions, my goodness.
More than their opponents each time they play.
So they create more possessions by offensive rebounds and turning their opponents over
and then getting on transition where they're one of the best teams in transition.
They're one of the best fast break teams.
And again, like I said, they're one of the best second chance point teams in the league.
So that's how they beat you.
And a lot of that is like from what Lindsay said, just from being physical, aggressive,
and just, you know, pounding the opponent for a lack of a better word.
And I think we're talking about the spurs coming up.
But if you look at the Cleveland game, there's a reason why.
Until the fourth quarter, it really felt like Cleveland kind of had a control of the game.
Yep.
Throughout the entire game, Cleveland had 10 total turnovers.
The pistons usually force, I just lost a number, but they force a lot more turnovers than
that.
Yeah.
Cleveland only had 10.
Seven of those turnovers came in the fourth quarter or sorry, I had four steals in
the fourth quarter.
Yeah.
So until the fourth quarter came around, they not for a team like the pistons who are not
going to be an incredible half court offense team that's not going to light you up from
beyond the arc, they have to be able to continue to turn you over and get on fast breaks.
So if they're also, if they're going to get out scored from three, if they're going
to foul a ton, which is fine, they foul a ton because they're aggressive and create
a lot more practice.
But if you're following a ton and you're getting out scored from three, but you're not
getting the, the ads of over also creating turnovers though, and we're getting off into
rebounds, then you're going to be in a tough position.
And that's why the pistons struggled to really cut into the calf stuff until the fourth
quarter.
And that's another thing when we talk about the spurs, I think they struggled with in the
first match up against Santonio.
So that's what they have to get back to doing.
They have to be able to create these turnovers and really get back to their defense.
And that will simplify everything for them.
Exactly.
I'm sorry to go nerd.
I know.
I know.
That was that was a much bit.
I love it though.
But no, this is, this is great and this is the beauty of the squad show.
We've got an hour.
Who I know you, you know, you don't have to worry about going over on segments.
That's the beauty of the long forum, you know, platform here.
So Lindsay, my question to you would be when and could did a great job of just outlining,
you know, the value and the extra possessions and everything from a player standpoint.
Is that something, you know, like that, that concepts, those concepts being discussed
in a game plan and you know, I'm not suggesting there's an on off switch and, and you know,
you, all right, let's crank it up.
We got to get some extra possessions here.
So just from more of a mentality standpoint top on down, I would imagine that's a part
of the philosophy, the messaging from the coaching staff to the players.
And I mean, shoot, and you're going back to the way you play as a player.
Like that was very evident and it goes back to just the idea that that's the identity
of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit basketball.
Absolutely.
I think this team has their, they formed their own identity in the mold of teams in the past,
but kind of in a new style and a new way they play, but they still, I think in their minds,
they come out and they always feel like they are the aggressors.
They are the most physical team.
It hasn't been displayed after All Star Break.
They haven't been coming out like they did before All Star Break.
Before All Star Break, they came out and manhandled teams.
Like it, it, it, it looked like, you know, they look like men amongst boys out there.
Now, I think teams are starting to say, hey, if we match their physicality,
if we can match their physicality, stay within our game plan, we have an opportunity to beat them.
And I think that's the person have to recognize that and say, okay, we're at another level now.
Teams don't look at us like, oh, they're just a, they're a good playoff team.
No, they're serious contenders and teams are going to play them as that.
For sure. And I think this comment, I, I was trying to read the comments as we were discussing
here, because this comment is somewhat addressing that same, I guess concern from Mr.
Ray granted this mostly works in the regular season in the playoffs, the game slow down
and less mistakes are made. And, and let's both, let's, let's tackle this comment.
I'm curious, Lindsay, your thoughts, you know, obviously playoff basketball, the intensity,
increases and everything else. But from, you know, the nitty-gritty of the Xs and O's of basketball,
how would you, how would you break down that comment of the, the intensity increasing in,
in shorter possessions and the importance of half-court offense and defense?
I think, I think that's become a little cliche-ish to say the game slows down in the playoffs.
Back in my day, it really did.
It was evident in the scores. Yeah.
But watching the playoffs now in modern basketball, the scores are high.
There's a lot of, okay, C is getting up and down in the playoffs. They're playing at a high
pace, high tempo. So, you know, the pisses may experience some of that team try to slow them down
and not let them get in open court, because they know that's the strength of our team.
But I still think they'll be able to play the way they're playing now. Of course, the intensity level
will be super high. You'll be able to, you know, it'll be a different environment, of course.
But I still think they'll be able to do what they're doing in regular season.
Just hopefully they can do it on a higher level and sustain it for a long period of time.
Yeah, I agree with Lindsay. I think, I think there's some truth to it slows down a bit.
But I do think that it's become a little bit more of just a common thing that people just say,
because they've been told a lot. I'm not, I'm not disagreeing that it slows down a bit.
It does. We have, there are some data points to talk about how the pace slows down just a little bit.
But it's not like it becomes just like everyone's walking the ball for everyone.
Like it's not, that's not what it is. And to speak to, you brought up, okay, C Lindsay.
Last year, okay, C won the championship. A lot of their success was like, everyone talks about
like the third quarter warriors where the warriors would just hit like 10 threes in two minutes.
It's like, oh my god, it was a two point game. Now we're down by 30. What just happened?
Okay, C did that, but not with threes. They would do it with defense. They all of a sudden within
two minutes, they got three steals. They scored five straight fast break buckets all of a sudden.
A two point game is not balloon to 15 points. It's not because they hit a bunch of threes,
because they turned you over a ton and they just, their defense is unleashed on you.
Multiple times last year, okay, C's half court offense started, especially in the Western
Conference finals in the finals, though half court offense started dwindling a little bit.
They were one of the best half court offense during the season. They fell to seventh in the playoffs
last year. So seventh is not terrible, but it's not top of the top of the pack. The reason why they
were still able to just dominate teams and pull out the championship last year is because while
they have an SGA who is incredible, they were, they're able to still do what the pissant kind of
do right now, which is turn you over a ton, get out in fast breaks, play fast against you,
and even in the playoffs, if they're good enough at it and they're physical enough with it,
it doesn't matter. They'll force you to play their way.
And cool to ask what you were talking about. If you watched the, okay, C play last year,
they were the most aggressive defensive team in the league last year. I think the pissants have
taken that title from them this year. And they've been the more aggressive defensive team and
more physical team this season. And that in turn has made them a contender.
And both teams are great. Both teams have players that can go get a shot, go get a bucket,
which you've got to have in the playoffs. You've got to have a K kind of have a SGA.
Because teams know exactly what you're going to do. There's no surprises. You may add a twist or
flip a play or do something that you haven't pulled out. But for the most part, we know exactly what
you're going to do. We know where you're going to get the ball. We know who's going to get the ball.
So you've got to have stars stars. That's why they say stars have to be stars in the in the post
season. Yeah. In the back of the back you up, Lindsey, the pissants this year are turning teams over
more than OKC did last year. So like they're I think and they're doing it more than they did this
year. So they are the aggressive team. They are the physical team across the NBA. OKC's one of
them. But they have kind of like so far through the regular season. They have leaped OKC and even
in that regard. Absolutely. All right. Game plan rest of the show. We're live on lockdown
pistons here. I love the conversation. I love the analysis and everything else. Let's do a deep
dive preview on pistons first tonight. And then I see a bunch of comments still coming in and
questions in the chat. So we can wrap it up with a little Q and A. But one thing one thing and
this is this is me being selfish. I've already I had the wrong graphic up. So I'm in the doghouse
after this. I you know, I'm just so like again, and I said this and I'll say a million more times.
I love hearing your guys' opinions. I'm just either dumb thoughts I have in my brain or
or things I read on the message boards and everything else. But carousel avert is at a point.
And I'm cherry picking a little bit from the box score. But tough night against the Cavaliers.
And it just I think the best way to summarize it is it doesn't feel like he's he's solidified
a meaningful role on this team yet to where he can't like we know he's capable. We know he's
capable of having an impactful role. And so to wrap up this second segment, I'm curious your
guys' thoughts and takes on just the carousel avert situation and how JB can maximize him because
it just doesn't feel like the the maximum production is impacting this team the way it potentially could.
Go ahead, Lindy. Yeah, just watching him. You're absolutely right, Jay. He hasn't found his niche
with this team and you can tell by the way he plays like he's indecisive a lot. He hasn't been
through. I've been a fan of carousel since he was at Michigan. Right. I went to some practices and
watch him you know playing practice. And I always thought he was a phenomenal like God,
this guy's going to be a good pro, a really good pro. And he showed some promises early on in
his career where he had some nights where you thought like this could be a next level type kid.
But it's just been hard for him in this business system to kind of find his niche, get comfortable
and add something to the team. Be the another ball handler initiator. Offensive boost.
He has a quick and set a great first step. Has it shot the ball well? It's just been
hard for him. He was hurt a lot injured. That has plays into it as well. So it's just been hard
for him to find his niche and find his way to really contribute because I think if we had a,
if he was a solid contributor, he gives us a whole nother dimension that would just help us a lot.
Yeah, I think I don't, my opinion on the word is I think if there is a player that because there's
been a lot of talk should the piston try to place a more shooter. Should they give hurt or a chance?
Should they give chas linear chance? Should they give sassar a chance? There's a player that
if you want to do that, you have to take out the rotation. I think it has to be lavert.
He has not played well this year. In his minutes, they're much better with him off the floor than on
without going too nerd with that. Just keep it there. And then also one of the things with JB that
at the beginning of the year, when I was recording the podcast, like the first two months of the year,
there's a lot of fans saying, why are they not playing or when Ivy eventually got back from his
injury? It was like, oh, why are they playing lavert over Ivy? Why are they closing with lavert over
Ivy? What's going on? And at the time, the reasoning, which I understood was,
carous is someone he can trust to handle the ball that won't turn the ball over,
that if teams are pressing Cade, he can trust him to get the ball to floor, run the offense,
get it set up, and I had to worry about turnovers. And I understood that. That made sense.
Carous had usually been a low turnover guy throughout his career. He takes care of the ball. He has
a good handle. I get that. However, the problem is that even over the last like 20 games,
not only has he become much less efficient, not only is he shooting much less or way worse from
the floor. Also, there's this weird or this funny stat where he has like the worst rebound
percentage on the team, even behind Marcus Sasser and Dennis Jenkins who are like a lot smaller than
him, which is a little concerning. But really, the last 20 games, even like the one positive that JB
was like, hey, he's going to get us in all he's not going to turn the ball over like that kind of
stuff. He's been turned the ball over quite a bit lately. Last 20 games, one and a half turnovers
a game on just 18 minutes a game. Last 10 games, he's at 1.6 turnovers a game, 18 minutes a game.
And then the last five games, he's at 2.2 turnovers a game and 17 minutes a game. So he's not shooting
well. He's turned the ball over a ton and minimize role. It's been tough for him. Limstein's right
for him to find like his, his, I guess, his, his role here. And he was like injured. They said he
was dealing with like a sickness earlier in the year. So I'm sure that's all played into it. But
if they do eventually want to say, hey, let's get her to her chance. Let's give one of these guys
a chance to maybe see if they added shooting could help. I think Levertspot should be the one they
test with rotating in and out. I love it. I love it. We are a little over time on our second segment.
That's kind of a bad hosting by me got to keep, you know, I got to keep a bad point guard. I know
I should be asking Lindsey for advice on running the point here. But quick time out, keep the,
keep the lights on and everything else. And then our previews coming up next,
piston spurs coming up later tonight. Don't go anywhere. It's lockdown piston squad show.
Today's episode of the lockdown piston squad show is brought to you by game time. That's right.
Game time. No better feeling than being live inside an NBA arena, especially now with the crowd,
the energy and the moment it all comes together. But getting tickets, that can be the tough part,
right? It's not always so simple. And that's where game time comes in. All you got to do is head
over to gametime.co. Remember it's gametime.co. And they're the go to app for scoring tickets fast
and without any of the hassle. Put the advantage right back where it belongs with the fans. And
you know what? You pull up that game time app. You pick an upcoming NBA game and you can get
tickets within minutes and rest assured you're getting the lowest price possible. But that's not
all. There's a ton of features that I love. No better feature than the all in price up front.
What a concept, right? No surprise fees at checkout. The price you see is the price you pay. I also
love the high res photo view from your suit suite view from your seat if I could talk before
buying. And that makes the decision super easy. The zone, zone deals are cool. Game time picks
the seats and you save big. Always great last minute options to get inside the NBA arena and
NBA tickets showing solid prices. So take the guesswork out of buying NBA tickets with game time,
download the game time app, create an account and use that code lock down for $20 off your first
purchase. That's code lock down for $20 off download the game time app today. And remember,
it is game time.co not game time.com game time.co use that promo code lock down.

all right pistons spurs tonight looking forward to it this time the pistons on the road looking
to bounce back a little bit I'll start with my first first what to watch for if you will and we
got to get you know a big graphic up here and everything and and and what not with with what we're
expecting for tonight but I want to see the pistons physicality and I think we've we've talked about
it it shows up defensively JB's talked about it and getting back to the identity of this
pistons team so I know I took the easiest one first again selfish play by me not not doing a good
prop here but what what are you guys looking forward to cool I'll kick two first we'll just go
around table here yeah well I'm watching for in this matchup is can the pistons take away the three
point shot for the San Antonio spurs that's the main thing for me they have to I think last game they
gave now when we deserve a ton of respect and a lot of attention but I think maybe they gave them
just a little maybe a little too much respect and attention because it created so many open looks
for them from beyond the arc Devin Vasil had 18 the first half I'm 100% sure all of them came off
him attacking closeouts either as a catch and shooter or attacking with two dribbles and a pull up
simply because of the openings that Wimby was creating so main thing I want to watch the pistons just
take or take away the three ball if Wimby even if Wimby goes off maybe you can eliminate the
threes and they don't shoot 45% from three and now you're in a chance in a better game Wimby
maybe goes off but maybe you win it anyways so that's the main thing I'm watching for
and then lastly the I've said it earlier in the in the pod I'll say it again the pistons win off
of maximizing their possessions they have to turn the spurs over in this matchup against the spurs
last time the spurs were their team that turned the pistons over they had 21 points off turnovers
and the piston only had 13 the pistons had 16 turnovers themselves they can't turn the ball over
they need to get out and transition and they have to take away the three ball that's that's why I'm
watching for absolutely the great points and the biggest thing watching the spurs play man they're
they're perimeter their guards are so good they are because the castle and and Dylan Harper and
Fox that's gonna be a challenge it's gonna be a challenge to keep those guys out of the lane
because they have they have some of the best guards as far as getting to the rim Dylan Harper's
a monster coming off the bench getting to them I think you have at 20 some points in the last
game and and it's it's it's gonna be a challenge so all of our guys you know you don't have to be always
say you don't have to be a great defender you don't have to have a team full of great defenders but
you do have to have guys that are willing to you know put forth great efforts on defense you know
I'm not we're not nobody's gonna be Thompson on defense but the other guys have to be willing to
you know take the challenge at least take the challenge and and you'll have support we're the
number one team at shot blocks and in the lead so you got support but you can't give straight line
drives up and we can't allow these guys just to dominate us in the paint and and and cool you're
right we showed a lot of attention to Wimby did a great job on him uh here at home uh but probably
too much attention to Wimby you know um Wimby's uh he's out loud he's gonna do what he does but I think
if if we allow just let him play and we guard him straight up and help when we have to and don't
give up all the threes and open shots and playing against closeouts against a team that have guards
that are tremendous playmakers and scores I think will be in a lot better position than we were
last time for sure I was actually it and it's interesting I was listening to a press conference
with Mitch Johnson their head coach you know a younger guy obviously just the the new age spurs
and and that's not any disrespect but just how different they are compared to those uh you know
years and years and years of pop led spurs that were we're so good for so long and he was just talking
about the evolution of so many role players on that team and Wimby's always gonna get the headlines
rightfully so it's no disrespect but man what a complete team they have turned into and it happened
fast because those are some some young guys and some really solid draft picks but uh as we're
taking a deep dive on the preview here I did want to mix in one of these comments just because
I think we all agree with it and we don't say it enough but this is from 313 for life
Lindsay you were the best full court press you changed the game a lot of times Mike James and
you together in 04 was insane and those are some of the best memories I've got too I just saw
that comment coming in I was like man that that that we need to show that on the screen because
we're that's what we're talking about we're talking about defensively impacting the game changing
the game and Lindsay you were you were a dog at that and you had to take some pride in that right
oh actually that was fun for us but but it was so it was easy for us too because we had the
Wallace brothers back there you know what I'm saying so when you got two guys like that behind you
we didn't worry about people beating us it was you know we can pressure all up and and the the
great thing about you know the way we played is we really didn't practice that like we never like
people thought we had a press and I was like no we don't have a press we just pick up full court
me and Mike knew I'm taking the best ball handler you take the second best ball handler if rip
was in the game rip was reading passing lanes if tation was in the game he was doing the same thing
so it was just a matter of we played harder than the the second team that we were playing against
every single night we that was our goal like because we all felt like we were starters anyway we were
like we would just try to dominate the second unit and it always worked and I look at this new
piston team similar they they probably not as deep as we were but they're they're still a deep
team but they can I think they can do something similar with their physicality and playing with
a different type of aggression absolutely and I threw on the run run down sheet guys you know a
cliche of a of a measuring stick game getting back to that tonight spurs pistons you lost the last
time you took on the San Antonio spurs and I know it's a cliche but just as competitors and as
you know guys wanting to continue to put this pistons team on the map and obviously having the best
record in the NBA is a great way to do that but there still feels like there's there's a
measuring stick component to this game especially with the prowess of the San Antonio spurs so
who I'll go to you first and then and then the Lindsay do you feel like that that plays at
you know at least a significant enough factor in a game like this in a regular season game in
early March now I definitely think so that's well that's why I've been watching for the last few
games these all been really quality opponents these you know as teams get healthier and ask the
pistons take on some of these better teams I look at for sure as like a measuring stick and getting
more data points on the pistons what they can do against some of these teams what can't they do
against some of these teams can they solve some of these things what things are unsolvable what
that's that's that's why I've been watching for I'm really been looking forward to the stretch
because you get some of these answers and some of these unique you don't get to play these
elite of teams every night so you get to see these matchups and fun basketball so I've definitely
been looking forward to and I think for sure I look at as a measuring stick yeah I'm sure the
pistons are looking at it the same way you know San Antonio came here and got a win shot the ball
extremely well and I know the pistons are looking at it like okay there are some things that they
did that we didn't guard as well we got to fix those things you know I don't think Wimbee's
going to be Wimbee he's a unicorn you know figuring him out but the pistons did a great job
with defending him but you gave up so much more so I think there'll be a hopefully there'll be a
healthy balance of hey we're not just going to let him go crazy but we're not going to let these
guys shoot a thousand threes against us as well for sure all right we got one more segment we promise
some Q&As and I think that's the beauty of the live show so we'll wrap up with some questions

all right final segment of the program locked on pistons squad show Q&A time fire up those questions
and you know what what what what do our best here that's the beauty of the podcast we can go over
a little over an hour if if necessary that's just the sign of good conversation
but i think this one's perfect to start off with thank you david qzzz do you guys think having
stew out there tonight will have an easier time defending whenby you don't want whoever wants to
start go ahead Lindsey yeah i think absolutely it does i think you know stew can hold his own of
course nobody really can you know stop whenby when he's a you know like i said a unicorn but i
think stew gives us more stability and gives us more you know grit down low and and enable
guys not to have to help as much and anytime you don't have to help as much you can really stop
the wide open threes the corner threes and guys catching and shooting a lot and playing against close
outs because you get into a game where you're having to close out against san antonio all night
you're going to be chasing and you're going to be watching threes drop you're going to be watching
lives to the rim and that's what we don't want to get into with san antonio yeah i agree i think
stew definitely will help uh Lindsey hit on the main areas i think another area that he could
help is as a rim protector creating plays i i think stew also helps them unlock some of their
transition offense by blocking shots at the rim keeping it in bounds and allowing them to make
plays off of them offensive and so i think stew definitely will help strong big body to go at winby
and interest to see how he plays against them yeah all right cruising right along get trying to
get as many questions in as we can here from a nacho nick 502 nice youtube user name nacho nick
i'm getting hungry will kate have a shot at mvp if castle walks him up again tonight
do i Lindsey yeah i think he'll be in it we have we have you know he's not over we have a lot of games
to play so i don't think mvp's are one or lost in one game you know kate has a great case he's put up
a great case for uh being uh mvp candidate so i think it'll go down to the wire i think it'll be
between uh sga kade uh i don't know if joker can get back in it but those are my two guys i think
brown from boston i think those three guys will be vying for the mvp uh trophy at the end of the
season that's that that's that real quick that's that uh sga's twent consecutive 20 point games i
saw last night it was like i'm mind blown i was just like my goodness i think it's second most
mba uh an mba history and i'm terrible with numbers but i know it's it's over 100 consecutive games
with 20 points just insane go ahead yeah yeah no sga is insane i i don't think that kade's going to lose
or win the mvp on one night i think kade will lose or win the mvp based off what they do for the
entire season i agree with lindsay i think it's between sga and kade i think like the top five guys
i would have is brown like sga k joker win b and then like luca or jalen brown like those are the
guys in there and who i don't agree with luca i can't you know what i can't really push against them
i'm not going to lie it's it's been it's not been the greatest season for luca the defense and uh
you know that it i'll i'll i'll interject real quick that was the the craziest day of radio in my life
i was on in Dallas sunday morning after the trade you know it was just insane i'll never forget
i'll never forget that day still to this day talking about like the reality of it setting in and
obviously this is locked on pistons we don't need to go that deep dive but i mean i'm here to tell
you they're still in mourning and i don't know how they ever recover now there's a lot of a lot
of parts of luca's game that uh you know some truth to it and whatnot but franchise player built that
you know the identity of the city and they they shipped them off but that's that's that's neither
here nor there we can get into all the neco-harrison stores at a later time. Lindsay how shocked i so i
know i like i know we're going on the sidebar a little quick but like that day i woke up to this
trade i was like bro i have to be reading something this is a lot there's no way that
what what did you have a reaction was what what did you have like a what just happened reaction
were like did you what did you see it like what what was your reaction everything so i was getting
phone calls and i was like what and i started looking online looking on social media and i was like
do this a joke i was like you know how they always have stupid reports that come out of you reading
you know i just not sure i thought it was a ball-sack sports moment
and then so i know so i'm actually really cool with neco and i know a couple of the scouts
the man so i call i was like yo what's going on he's like yep it happened oh my god
wow really thing okay that yeah i um yeah i live right next to american airline center in Dallas i
went down there and there was like a a revolt like a a a a protest and i filmed some of it and
just threw it up on twitter you know like you do and then that morning i woke up to DMs from
barstool bleacher report ESPN then we can we share this video and i was like yeah i mean go ahead but
yeah the uh the the 30 for 30 on that is is going to be wild and everything but
if you never wins a championship it won't matter yeah the question from Chan i think is a good one
to ask Lindsey based off of that yeah it's a good one to wrap it up too we're having some fun here
uh so i'll throw it on the screen there from Chan six six eight three was that a worse trade
than billups for iverson man now actually you know what now i'm gonna make my make myself sad
thinking about that trade thanks a lot who well you know at that time we had already won a championship
so it it was i think you know the band was breaking up yeah it was time for everybody to go their
ways and you know do they do that trade had nothing to do with the band breaking up that was just
uh out of the blue yeah unbelievable like are we being pumped yeah but that's what it felt like
man you know yeah on the way i remember uh where i was when billups got traded
i was in fifth grade i think and i got off the bus as i'm walking home uh my stepdad at the time
was screaming down the down the street there's like a few houses which i'm walking down with my friends
he's screaming down the street so once he was traded i'm like no he wasn't he's like yes he was
and then I'm literally i'm like 10 years old at this time i think or something like that and i'm
literally crying in the living room like no way like he was my favorite player he got i cried like two
days yeah oh my gosh that there's nothing like a kid's love for their favorite player i remember
and the comment brought up uh you know when when Ben Wallace signed in Chicago i remember
both my brother and i just crocodile tears man it was so that's like man you can't even control it
at that age but all right this has been a fantastic show had a ton of fun with you guys appreciate
all of the comments and interaction that's what makes the live show a ton of fun big game tonight spurs
