Hey welcome to Missed Opportunity.
I love sharing conversations, hosting them requires a lot of show prep.
My podcasting platform features thousands of guests.
What you don't have access to are my missed opportunities.
I mean the show prep was 100% completed, the conversation itself, it didn't happen.
But I keep all of my notes because I believe that paths will one day cross again.
Let me explain Missed Opportunity.
It's my questions and statements without their answers.
I'm leaving open enough space at the end of every question, hoping they'll download the talk and insert their answers.
It's happened four different times.
Missed Opportunity is what I see as a lost piece of history.
It's a message in a bottle that's been tossed out to see.
I hope to locate that destination.
This week we're putting focus on my missed opportunity with singer songwriter Noah Spencer.
Let's see Noah was 20 years old at the time of our scheduled conversation.
Haleyne from the heart of Appalachia, his hometown is Richmond, Virginia,
but he currently lives in a place called Pounding Mill, Virginia.
Noah's parents realized very early on, especially at the age of two it says here,
starting first with singing at church at the age of two,
later picking up the guitar, which led him to open mic nights by the age of 15.
Now, once in college, Noah and his fan base began to increase.
They expanded due to playing in bars, restaurants, breweries and festivals.
Being from the Appalachian region, he remained true to his musical roots.
Now, between he and his father, they own 32 stringed instruments.
His dream is to be a successful songwriter blessed with an opportunity to tour across the country.
The invitation to share a conversation with Noah Spencer arrived on November 3rd, 2023.
Noah Spencer, let me spell his last name because a lot of people are going to get this wrong.
S-P-E-N-C-E-R.
He was selected to perform on season 24 of NBC's The Voice, a four-time Emmy award-winning musical competition.
I was given a 20-minute window to share a conversation with Noah starting at 8.40 am.
The Zoom link was sent, that usually means, dude, it's going down.
But this time around, it didn't happen.
It became my missed opportunity.
Hey, coming up next, my questions, my statements with Noah Spencer of NBC's The Voice.

This episode is brought to you by Spreaker, the platform responsible for a rapidly spreading condition known as podcast brain.
Symptoms include buying microphones you don't need, explaining RSS feeds to confused relatives, and saying things like, sorry, I can't talk right now, I'm editing audio.
If this sounds familiar, you're probably already a podcaster.
The good news is Spreaker makes the whole process simple.
You record your show, upload it once, and Spreaker distributes it everywhere people listen. Apple podcasts, Spotify, and about a dozen apps your cousins swears are the next big thing.
Even better, Spreaker helps you monetize your show with ads, meaning your podcast might someday pay for, well, more microphones.
Start your show today at spreaker.com. Spreaker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it.
Hey, thanks for coming back to Mist Opportunity. This is my Mist Opportunity with singer songwriter Noah Spencer from NBC's The Voice.
Keeping your sound true, we were talking about this a little bit earlier because you're from the Appalachian region, but how difficult is it to stay that true?
Collecting those stringed instruments with your father, my god, 32 different ones, how do you not get lost?
Making that transition from singing and church because you said you went there at two years old to where you are today, what was that transition like?
I love the fact that you started singing in restaurants because in Carolina these days, people are starting their journey singing in grocery stores of all places, but that's what you got to do.
You got to find your open mic tonight.
Playing local is such an incredible way to build up that fan following because it's going to reach into other cities.
How do you grow that monster?
20 years old living in Pounding Mill, Virginia. Talk to me about this city and what you feel in it and can you take the roots of this city with you when you start touring across the country?
Hey, I'm in the South too, dude. How important are the Appalachians to your creative process?
The final question, the moment you realized it wasn't just music, but rather this is the music business.
Mist opportunity, it's a lost piece of history. You now know the questions, so let's locate the answers. The door is always going to be open.
If you are or know, know a spencer, please reach out to me at arrowc at gmail.com. That's arroec at gmail.com. And as always, be brilliant.
