Welcome to the Pat McAfee Show. I'm AJ Hawkes and in at Pat's desk. He's down in Austin, Texas for a huge match up this weekend. Game day, Ohio State, Texas. Football! It's what it is Pat. Where are you? Okay, that's a beautiful spot there in the concourse. It looks like down in Austin, Texas. How you doing, man? Hey, I'm great, AJ. Thank you so much for traveling out to Indianapolis, Indiana to hang out with the boys there in the Thunderdome on this magnificent, magnificent college football week two Friday in NFL week one Friday on this September 11th. Obviously, we have to chitchat about the heavyness of that particular date. Obviously, as a 39 year old and all the lads that are back in the Thunderdome, we all lived through September 11th, 2001. We all understood what happened to our lives and what happened to our country there on September 12th, 2001. We saw a lot of patriots run towards the fire. We saw service members run towards craziness. We saw a lot of heroes amongst the chaos and for that, we will always be thankful and grateful. We will always remember, obviously, what happened on September 11th. We will always be thankful for our heroes that serve our country and we will always on this particular day.
If you have not heard the conversation, you will recognize that everybody is in the same position, remind everybody that there is a cause to freedom. There are people that maybe don't have the same values that we have in this world and we need to continue to strive to find that you for a state for all of us to survive. Now, football is a wonderful thing. Sports are a great thing that rallied our country on September 11th, 2001 going forward. We all remember the baseball tributes, we all remember football coming through. We absolutely love the jobs that we have and showcasing the greatest on earth, which is sports. Now, we all remember George W. Go ahead and humming one in there in New York. And obviously it was a symbol of, hey listen, we are back, we are not gonna be deterred, we are not gonna be deferred, we are a country that if you punch us, we're gonna punch you back. It was symbolic, it was fantastic, and we moved forward a better country because of that, even though it was absolutely devastating. Now, whenever we talk about football and talk about sports right now, I'm very lucky to be right here next to the field, down here in Texas. Now, obviously archbannings, the quarterback, Steve Sarkiesian is the head coach. Last year, a little bit underwhelming this year,
they're gonna be national champions. Who knows, they got Ohio State coming into town. And from my understanding, there was multiple planes last night that were packed out with a bunch of buckais. I don't know how many Ohio State folks are making it down here, but I think these Ohio State buckais kinda see a different team this year than they saw last year. And even though they had the greatest defense on earth, and it certainly stumped archbanning in his debut, Julian Sain has another year under his belt with a bunch of weapons and a defense that can still hunt, and that man right there who catches every ball, office face, office back, office stomach, and scores nothing but touchdowns. It is gonna be electricity down here in Austin, just like it's gonna be up there in Ann Arbor, his Oklahoma takes on Michigan and across the board of the college football slate. Now, the topic of today, though, AJ, is Los Angeles Rams are a bunch of fraud. Okay, that is the conversation of today. Now, I do believe that we were all kinda bamboozled. We were kinda duped into this thing. We were reading studies and listening to Aussies tell us that traveling over same day was actually gonna be a good thing. I, from my own personal experience of traveling
to Brisbane, Australia just a year ago, thought to myself, going over not a problem. Actually woke up felt like I was right in there. Now 10 a.m. game, though. So it's still different even if you're on Australia time. Nonetheless, I think the trip that the LA Rams chose to do was certainly a part of their demise and their demolishing at the hands of Brock Pertie, who drops an absolute bucket to Robinson, which is spectacular, but not just on offense, not just Pertie, across the board. It felt like the San Francisco 49ers were better football team and better football players than the Los Angeles Rams. People even say Sean McVeigh, Sean McVeigh looked like he was like, kind of tired, he looked like shell of himself. This little Energizer bunny that's normally on the sideline, Mike Evans is a San Francisco 49er by the way. He's picking up first downs. He's running comeback routes now, okay. Not only is he running fade right there, not only is he running post obviously, he's running comeback routes for the Shanahan offense and I think Pertie is gonna love finding him on a regular basis. George Kiddles back playing football in a fantastic way. You checks doing these banana pools.
He's looking like an arena leader, Canadian football league player. It's like we forgot, I think, about the Niners, but I think we also kind of just thought that the Los Angeles Rams are gonna have the proper idea of when they traveled over there. Feels like it was a big time out for them. A lot of people laughing in their face. They had no Wi-Fi on the way back 16 hours of depression. Thanks. 16 hours of just wondering what the hell just happened? We just got absolutely shmacked in Australia. I would like to thank the Australians for showing up. That was an incredible environment. Holy hell. That looked awesome. Now, my original fears after being to a Nazi rules football game was the pitch, the field was gigantic. How was it gonna look for the people that were there? Maybe too far away from the field? I think there was a couple of first row people that probably paid a good amount of money be on the first row, maybe the 50, to couldn't see a lot of stuff. But if you had any of the other seats that the 100,000 people had, Velik, it was probably an enjoyable morning. We hope the Aussies loved our sport and I wanna let you know, everything I said
about the Los Angeles Rams all off season still holds true. Aaron Ball wasn't playing. We didn't know Miles Garrett couldn't play football anymore. He's okay. We didn't know he was hurt. Matthew Stafford, he didn't look like a Matthew Stafford that we'd seen over the last couple of years. Now, maybe it's early in the season and maybe we forget about what early year, early season Stafford looks like whenever we see him play so great towards the end of the year. But he was shining away from stuff. He was missing throws. None of it looked right. And I think we all have to kind of take back and kind of eat some crow and what we said about the San Francisco 49ers and the way they handled this. They were unbelievable. Fred Warner becomes the all-time leading tackler for the San Francisco 49ers last night. Brock Pertie cement himself is one of the top quarterbacks in the league. And that's just off opening Thursday night in Australia morning. AJ, I love last night, Debow back. I mean, it felt really, really good for the Niners across the board, AJ. Yeah, I would imagine the Niners are feeling very good about where they're at right now. How they came out. I mean, the Rams, I think, should we have seen this coming, I guess, with all that we talked about these guys, we were sitting here debating,
but they're going to go undefeated. How does anybody ever beat this Rams team? I mean, how do you get a first dime, I would say? Yeah. Now, Aaron Donald is not playing. So we were talking about a different team than the team we saw last night. But yeah, we were feeding rat poison, weighed into the Rams, and then chips on the shoulders of everybody else, including this Niners team, I think, is there? Niners team, I think, from the top down, I'm sure from GM John Lynch to Shanahan head coach, all of them, I'm sure we're quietly pissed off. Yes, ownership of the question. And they're out there beating the streets, trying to ingratiate themselves to these Australian fan base, which it seems like they did a very good job of them. But they came out there and they showed them. And you know, Shanahan is in his bag again, as they say, with all this use check, whatever banana, dash, cheat motion, whatever you want to call it, I think a lot of teams are going to try to do some of this. And it's not that easy. There's only one cow use check, by the way. I know they have other guys that run this kind of motion as well. But just as a defender, if you're a defensive, say you're a linebacker or a DB and overhang player, all these little weird quirky motions just get you. I think you're not able to play as downhill as you might be against another team
that has more, I guess, stable and doesn't move around nearly as much. And they printed a Shanahan in this team because they got it done. Yeah, they certainly did. And I want to go to the talks of table, con man's thoughts. Did we expect this big of just an ass beating like this? Brock party almost threw a couple picks, right? There was a couple of put, couple of like, if they go the other way, maybe there's an opportunity. But there was never really a question that the Niners were going to win this game. It felt like from literally jump this San Francisco 49ers team was exactly who, I guess we should have known they were. All their stars are back playing. All of them. Everybody that is potentially going to be injured this year, which we hope does not get happened and potentially miss some practice door and training camp. They were all up and they got a backup running back corner straight out of IU. It feels like. Yeah, Caitlin Black and that felt like a big story. He got a bunch of touches and I know fantasy football people were too happy about that. If you had Christian McCaffrey, but if you're a 49ers fan, you got to be pumped. You're not going to run McCaffrey into the ground. The worries usually with him is that, you know, hey, by week 15, is this guy going to be able to hold up?
That doesn't feel like it's going to be the case. Kittle, you know, I don't know if he was as involved in the past game, but he was blocking his ass off and he had a couple catchers still good to see him back. I think it just kind of reaffirmed how good people and players are in the NFL. All these teams, you know, the Rams as good as they are. The skill across the league is that good. You know, and they're going to be stacked when Aaron Donald comes back to your point. It wasn't their complete defense, but it wasn't as beating Brock, party diced the Rams defense, you know, and as much as I'd like to say, we all kind of screwed up like when Ty yesterday said, hey, I'm taking the 49ers all of a sudden, I thought to myself, I go, shit, this might be the 49ers. Everyone's talking about the Rams and nothing about it. And even the Seahawks and nothing about the Niners in that division. So it was kind of one of those things where once you see Mike Evans balling out, you realize, oh, yeah, he's still unbelievable at football, Debow and Shanahan's offense, unbelievable. Just across the board, the Niners in on defense, they were the same two with Rahim.
It was impressive. I was just left impressed with the 49ers in their entire team. Yeah, I mean, you know, like we talked a little bit about Brock, party and the defense was obviously a big part of it too, because I think that's what a lot of people were saying early on was, how are they going to get any pressure on Stafford? You know, they're already so hurt. But Rahim Morris clearly, he knows Sean McVey. He knows how to get the most out of his guys. But I think Brock, party is another one of those guys. We talked about it with Darnold. People still just don't respect him enough. You know, I think he's still viewed as Mr. irrelevant, you know, whatever, just not, but he is very clearly like when he is, you know, healthy and he's playing well, he's a top 10 top five quarterback in the NFL and it's getting Debow back. Like this looked like the 49ers offense from a couple of years ago when they went to the Super Bowl and we thought, hey, these guys might be unbeatable. And I was a little shocked. I didn't think Mike Evans would be that heavily involved early. I thought it'd be one of those things where he didn't practice a whole bunch, you know, during training camp in the preseason.
And it was very clear early on like he's the guy. He is Brock, parties, you know, kind of go to guy, go to target. Now he had a bunch of third down conversions, the touchdown catch. So and, you know, we talked about it. Like listen, I know they don't really care what is said in the media that much, but when everyone is talking about how good the Rams are and how unbeatable they are. And you know, why are we even playing this game? What's going on? They're going to go undefeated. Like all these guys here that they know that this is a rivalry. You know, the Rams, Niners rivalry is a real thing. So I think they wanted to put their best foot forward. And yeah, after last night, it's, you know, it's one of those things where it's like, who knows? We'll see the Rams are obviously going to be very good. And I don't think they have anything to be concerned with. Are they, I mean, I hope so. I don't like what these stats I'm seeing. Hey, for the first time since 1492, Miles Garrett doesn't get a pressure. Yeah, he just comes off of what? 20 some sacks last year. I have to forgive what it was. Prove to record. And then didn't practice at all, traveled over there. They said knee swelling, knee swelling. Look, let's talk about Aaron Donnell. Let's talk about Aaron Donnell. Let's talk about Aaron Donnell.
Let's not worry about this guy that we just gave up a bunch for and I'm going to pay a bunch to it. Like, I mean, what is he playing football? What happened? And is he just turned that back on when he gets back to American soil? Do his cleats need to be on American dirt to play well? Maybe. Maybe that's what we learned here from Miles Garrett. And then when Aaron Donnell comes back, is he going to be the difference maker that we all think this Rams could potentially be to become the odds on favorite to win a Super Bowl like they were? Just what a couple of days still are they still the odds on favorite to win a Super Bowl right now? Gotta be. Yes. Hmm. I'm happy that the books didn't over react like I did. I gave up immediately. I said, he's going to stop. How far in? Like quarter three? Like where? Well, I just, I like, I like less need a lot because you know, he's a trader, uh, uh, trader like T-R-A-D-E-O. Good one. Like he actually, yeah, not T-R-A-I-T-O-R-R. He's a, he's a stock guy. Yeah, we don't like traders within an eye in here. Good TV show though. Traders, I think, is the name show? Yeah, it's pretty good show. But he's a trader. I like the way he looks at things from business wise and we talk about investing in this and building this
and the way he goes all in and everything like that. I do like the way like he operates. I like the way the team operates. But what I miss saying we're going to fly in day off to Australia. Like clearly, just clearly amiss. No, did they not care if they won this game? Because it's first game of 17. You know, Sean McVay talks about, and then people talk about Sean McVay's like kind of angling during training camp like, let's just get the guys in a game. Let's just get the guys in a game. Remember that Dallas Cowboys are running sprints after practice. Rams were walking off, right in front of me saying, I ain't doing that. None of the Rams players play. No, it's like, let's just get guys to the season. Let's get guys to the season. So did they care if they lost this game or not? You know, like from the jump where they just kind of like, well, we'll go to Australia. We'll do this. We'll get this over with and we move forward. Because that's what it looked like. And anytime you're talking like that, that's a terrible start to a season. Okay, that is a terrible start to a season. Let's go to one half of the hammer. Cowboys, AP tone. Obviously, we all lost last night with the Rams. Ty wins, congrats the Ty. And I think a few others, Gumpy also had, I believe the Niners.
He was celebrating that in my face as I was watching my first bet of the year really demise with the Los Angeles Rams. What all hit last night? How did the books do? And what altered after last night's performance? Yeah, the books are off to a great start after the first two games of the season. Obviously, the first game of the year was a was a push for Seattle and the under. Both games have gone under now. So anytime the games go under, that is a good result for the books. And then everyone was on the Rams last night. Obviously, Stafford totals go under, Puka totals go under, Devante totals go under. Yeah, like even Christian McCavory had a nice little night, but his rushing total went under as well. So it was a good night for the books because when it's under and then obviously everyone being on the Rams, the books are going to be very, very happy. As we looked at the Super Bowl odds, you saw last, you saw the, the Rams go from plus 500 to plus 600. So not a huge jump there. There was some jump in the division odds. The, the Niners had a huge jump in the division odds to go when the West out there. As you can see, they are now basically tied with the Seattle Seahawks and the Rams.
So it's a, the books have it as a three way race there in the West, basically the same odds for all those. So that's kind of the odds movement there, but another good night for the books when the dog and the, the public favorite does not win last night. And it goes under. So good result for the books and then a little bit of movement for the division. David books. I would like to know how Matthew Stavard didn't get in on that push push. Fourteen one seven, they're down. Seven, seven, seven. Right. Why he was doing that? It then it looks like he had this. Where Devon Teco? I thought the whole entire thing was, you know, first and goal or fourth and goal, whatever goal it is. Just run a little fade to Devon Teco. They didn't have any of those. I think he only had three catches. I don't think he had a target in the first quarter. Like, just start to finish for the Rams. It was a weird man. It just wasn't, it wasn't good. It wasn't when we expected. And I feel bamboozled that they did that to us, especially on the first Thursday night of the year. Bullshit. Yeah, I don't like it one bit either. I'll tell you what boys were joined by an absolute icon right now. Ladies and gentlemen joining us is the greatest college football coach of all time. Nick Savin, baby.
Yeah. Do you hear the lads in the back? Do you hear the lads back in the Thunder Dome? We're so excited to catch up with you. Obviously it's hot. It's held down here in Texas, but we got a big one. Texas, Ohio State, your first thoughts as you walk on a campus this morning. How do you see tomorrow rolling out for these guys? Well, I think there's two great teams. Obviously, I think there's a lot of good players on both teams. I think two great quarterbacks on both teams. Really good skill guys on both teams. So it's going to be to me about the teams that can not turn the ball over and who can make the most explosive plays. Now, I think Texas is a lot better than they were a year ago. I do think Ohio State still has a really, really good team, but they have to prove that they actually rebuilt their defense to be able to play well against the team, the caliber of Texas. Yeah, the issue that I have with Texas, potentially, is there was a lot of yelling about them not making the playoff last year. Okay, a lot of yelling about it. And we respect the kids, the amount of talent that they had.
They lost some games late too. Lost the Florida Dinosaur stretch. They really didn't play their best ball. Do we think offseason, archmaning, maybe getting a chance to get a year under his belt and experience, maybe he needed that, maybe this team need that. In Sark, do you think he maybe need that as well with his team? Do you think this year they're able to kind of be a consistent squad? Because obviously last week they looked great, but last year they didn't have a lot of consistency. Does that come with experience or how do you see it with shaping them? Well, I think in talking to Sark, they have a much more mature team this year. They were a young team last year. The fact that they only had six guys adapted was not an indication of how good the person L was. It was an indication that they had so many young players on the team. So I think that team is matured, so they're probably better to be able to go through the gauntlet of what they have to play from a scheduled standpoint weekend and week out in the SEC. And I think they have better skill players to make explosive plays. I mean, the two big goals was run the ball better, which means play better offensive line,
but also make more explosive plays. So now that they added Cam Coleman, who might be one of the best receivers in the country, you know, they've added the pieces that they need to solve the problems. And I think the runners they have now are very explosive as well. And in all our state, they just demolish. I mean, they're rolling. Art Smith, new offense coordinator, come from the NFL, has the keys to a car that has so much firepower. How do you feel like Julian Sain, another year under his belt, obviously, getting a chance to come back out there? You know, I was talking to Herb Street a little bit, who'll be joining us later. Herb, he was telling me, you know, it's an interesting perspective where last year, Julian's learning all these things. Try not to make the mistake because they know how good their team is. This year a little bit more like, hey, Julian, we need you to be a part of this entire thing. I like that mindset for him. Is he the right guy for that job? Yeah, well, I think so. I mean, he led the nation in completion percentage while he was just trying to help his team win. Or not mess it up. Yeah, exactly. He completed 84% of his passes in the first game.
But let me say this about Julian, I think processing is one of the most important things a quarterback has to do. You get the ball quick. You got to get out of your hand quick. You got to throw it to the right guy. He is a great processor to get rid of the ball. And he's very accurate throwing the ball. The thing that I think he needs to improve on is down the stretch and the playoffs last year. Got exposed a little bit when he got pressure. You know, he didn't get away from pressure. He didn't manage a pocket very well with pressure. So if he can improve on that, I have no question about the fact that this guy is a great processor. He's going to throw the ball to the right place at the right time. And he's accurate doing it. And he's got good guys catching it. And you have a question for you back at the Thunderdome coach? Yeah, coach. Obviously, Matt Patricia has a bunch of new pieces. I guess they had to plug into this young defense. The great players, but some of them are untested, I guess, in huge situations. What's something like, what are you looking for from this Ohio State defense early on? If they're going to have success on the road, what do you expect Matt Patricia to do with these guys? Well, you know, one thing that I don't think people realize that I didn't even realize,
you know, talking to Sark last night we went to dinner together is, he was very surprised last year in the game that Matt Patricia played the scheme that he played against them. A lot of sink, a lot of zone sink, you know, five down guys with two linebackers Caleb Downs being able to play middle linebacker, will linebacker, whatever coming out of the safety position. And they had a lot of adjusting to do it half time. And I think this probably contributed to some degree to arch being confused and not playing great in the game. So I don't know what he's going to do, but I'm telling you, I think Texas has better weapons. So they better not give up the big play. And they better control the line of scrimmage. Now, I do think Ohio State is very good in the defensive line. I think they're very powerful and I think that's going to be a big challenge for Texas's offensive line. What did you guys eat for dinner? Who paid? I tried to pay and he beat me to the punch. Oh, I like that. Oh, I like that. I like that.
I like that he beat you to the punch. You made it go the waiter waitress before you even had a chance to ask, what did you guys eat? Anything good? Was it good food? There was real good food. Stank meat, a lot of meat down here, right? I went with the pasta. What? I don't know. I know we had some of the carbine there. Okay, we're going to throw it. I like that a lot. Yeah, tone has a question for you back in the thunder. I'm a little grotsied down here. It's 150 degrees. I didn't know we're doing pasta. Let's get some heavy stuff in there. It's coach Sabin football. Yeah, coach, there's a couple SEC teams that are favorites traveling with freshmen quarterbacks on the road this weekend. Obviously, Tennessee is going to Georgia Tech as a favorite. And then Bama is going to Kentucky as a favorite in kind of hostile environments for both of those situations. How do you when you were coaching and you went into these first game of the year into a hostile environment with a potential young quarterback? How did you treat those situations and how do you think those teams will do it this weekend? Well, you know, it's obviously a huge challenge anytime you got to deal with noise.
What I tried to emphasize to the players was the fans aren't going to make any plays in the game. So it's up to us to be mature enough to be able to manage this situation. And we would practice actually two days Wednesday and Thursday with noise so that they had to practice and change plays and get in the right play and get the signals without being able to communicate verbally to try to get these guys ready for that. But is it a challenge form? No doubt. Now I think those two guys that you talked about though have the potential to be really good quarterback. I think the sky from Tennessee was fantastic in the first week. I also think you didn't mention Mississippi State going to Minnesota. True, come on, Taylor. Taylor. Yeah. He's the real deal now. He's the truth and the light. And I'm going to see how that guy's. He was awesome. Yeah, you were talking about him this morning. You just got him the truth and the light. How come? What did you see from him? How what do you know him? Well, I'm just watching a guy play a little bit last year and then a lot this year and then talking to Jeff Levy. I mean, this guy is a very good passer but athletic and can run and create plays on his own. So I think this guy's going to be
a big time surprise for a lot of people in the SEC. Wow, is the SEC getting deeper this year maybe? Well, we already got nine teams at the top 25. I like the big 10 who has three good teams at the top and then nothing. What? Come on. That's ridiculous. Hey, you see FP conversation starting early this year. I mean, we're at college football week two and we're already trying to plant some seeds down there. You hear this guy? We're down here in the South. Hey, 100. They're saying like 130, 140 degrees on this. And now it's a night game obviously. But I do think, yeah, dude, they're saying on the field. Yeah, here. Feds field turf. That will. Yeah, absolutely. They're saying 130, 140 degrees. Now, granted, that was last week because they're a day game. This is a night game tomorrow. I won't do that. But I do think where the big 10 in the SEC play, each other really matters. Like I think that really, really matter. AJ, I think you even agree on that, as you have a question for coach saving, but that that Tennessee Ohio State game, a couple years back, negative 10 degrees. Yeah, right. I mean, you know what I mean? Like even northern teams are cold as hell.
Not that Tennessee doesn't get cold, but I just feel like that was a neutralizer there in Ohio. Stay dominated. The SEC big 10 conversations only going to get louder. And you already heard somebody starting it right now. You already heard somebody's the field reached 106. Put that back up. 160 degrees. Triple did he. That doesn't seem safe. What? Yeah, please. Have you seen the heat readings for grass fields versus turf fields? Another one too. Yeah, sure, that'll come up at some point. Yeah, but I think what this does though is it really challenges a depth on your team. So if you have a lot of depth on your team and you can roll players in there, especially the big guys, because you know, the big guys once once the big guys run out of gas, there is no coming back. The little guys, they can get tired and in another minute or two, they're ready to go back, but then big guys, when that tank empties, it's done. They're done. So you got to keep them rolling fresh so they can play for 60 minutes in the game. We got no gas station coming to save this thing. Okay, there is nothing. Young guys pulling the side, gonna top top it off. They're back in there. These big
guys once they tap, it's over. I like that a lot. I don't know if you know this coach. Door dash on Saturdays. If you utilize door dash on Saturdays, do you know what door dash is? That's good question. Do you know what door dash is? Well, that's a mystery question, isn't it? Mysterious. If you had to guess what you guess at this or what did that do? If you had to guess what door dash was, what do you think it would be? That's something that somebody that delivers something to you. Boom. Yeah, not just somebody. It is an app that has a bunch of people that do that. You can order anything on there, coach. You want a stake. You can get that. You want some some Italian back in. Some shoes. You want a speedo potentially. You know, to go banana hammock out here. You can get that on door dash. Literally anything. I'll pass that. But at one point, you were with it though. Okay, so let's talk about the time when you weren't past that. We'll talk about that a little bit here as we back up so we can do a split screen. I don't know if this one's back. This one's back here. Door dash has everything you need delivered to your to your house. Okay, it's in the area. Obviously, anything you have available. It gets
on Saturday on game days. If you shop with door dash, you earn points and you could potentially win a house. Well, money towards a house. Okay, yes. You need what to know. Yeah, you need how about a how about a hellcat charger? You could want a potential dodge hellcat charger. 600 and some ponies under the hood. You know what I mean? That thing really gets going. You could win one of those. Use door dash on Saturday. What about my Ferrari? What about my Mercedes? You're not giving it away. Actually, that's funny. He just said that from our understanding. No, I can't say that actually. There's too many companies involved here. I was about to put up one of his Ferrari's for this door dash thing. I can't do that. I cannot do that. We would like to give away how much are those? How much is a Ferrari? Depends. They're quite expensive. 50 60 cheapest 50 60,000. What's the cheapest one that we could like do as a giveaway? 210? 300 maybe. Jesus Christ. I don't want to do that. Think of a giveaway. Dollars? Maybe later. Maybe college football playoff time. We'll do that. Good for you guys. Good for you guys, by the way.
I love what you're doing coach. Anyways, tone digs back in the ThunderDum as a question for you. Shop on door dash on Saturdays. You could win a house. Not a Ferrari yet, but certainly a dodge hellcat charger. Go ahead, tone. Yeah, coach. I wanted to talk to you then about the other big game this weekend in Oklahoma and Michigan. Obviously Michigan, the whole talk was about the the Hail Mary in that situation. But a lot of people, hey, Michigan offense looked horrendous. Oklahoma, obviously not the greatest defense that you want to go up after you looked terrible in week one. What are your thoughts on that Michigan offense? Obviously going up against Vennables in that defense in a in a kind of a spot where you need to look good. Yeah, well, I think Vennables is one of the best defensive coordinators ever. And I know he's a head coach now, but he's still calling the defenses. And he's the one guy that's so aggressive that he's always putting you trying to put you behind the eight ball by creating negative plays on offense. And you know, he does it by he's one of the guys on defense that's taking advantage of the green dot all the time. In other words, he wants to see what you're in. He's going to keep
messing around until they can't tell the quarterback anything else and then catch you in something that he wants to try to try to create a negative play. And I think in this game last year they they he created 12 negative plays against Michigan's offense. Now it comes down on offense to recognizing where this pressure is coming from and be able to block it up because it does lend itself to if you do execute to having the opportunity to make explosive plays, which Michigan didn't have a lot of success at last year, but it doesn't just come down to the quarterback. Everybody's got to recognize this. Everybody's got execute and then you got a chance to make some explosive plays. And I think that's going to be the key to the game that Michigan can minimize the times that they that Oklahoma can create negative plays against their offense and put them behind the eight ball because they haven't proven that they're an offense that can make up the sticks when it's second and 12 instead of second six. Yeah, I think the stats says that Bryce only has two completions past 40 yards, including the Hail Mary obviously it took place in the post game there against Western Michigan.
There's a stat floating around about Clemson with Venables and then post Venables. Can you tell me a little bit about him and how you guys all view his defense and why it's obviously so damn good? Well, we played him when he was at Clemson more than I like to remember. We had we won a couple, but we also lost a couple and a lot of it was because of the things that he did on defense. You know, he he makes it hard for the quarterback. I mean, like I remember the first play in a national championship game, two is the quarterback. They run Starfire, which is just a sample. It's out of nickel and they usually play middle of the field coverage. So what does two of do pulls the ball to throw a slant. They're playing two trap pick right off the bat first play of the game. So I mean, but that confusion that he created with how you prepared the quarterback to play against that pressure and then how he changed the look was all the difference in the world in terms of creating a big play and he does that over and over and over. And if he knows what you're in on
offense, he's going to know exactly what you like in that formation and try to take advantage of it. Yeah, the stats from Bill Jones who does not have a blue check mark says Elon, I'm not paying you three bucks during 2008 to 2011 is Clemson before Brent Vennibles 32 and 22 Clemson with Brent Vennibles from 2012 to 2021. 121 and 17 with two national titles 10 first round draft mix. Pretty good. Clemson after Vennibles 37 and 18 obviously with what we just saw down to LSU last week, which leads me to this question. Are they dead coach? LSU really good. They's up to take away from last week is that LSU is unbelievable. Clemson obviously, Davos says does he he was asked if he regretted anything his off season and he said, we ought to let more games. Okay, we all have more games. Ask me after the finish of the season. He said we can go 11 to one technically very true. Obviously he knows his locker room better than us. Should we take that as LSU is just a monster this year or Clemson down? How did you kind of view the first week? Well, you know, it's one week. You know, it's like you're talking about the ramps. It's one week. So everybody needs to calm down. So LSU is very good after one week. They they were
dominant in the game. They played extremely well. Their well coach Lane does a great job. They've got a lot of good players. Can they sustain that consistency and performance throughout the year? That's always the challenge for your team. Clemson on the other hand was not very impressive. You know, they couldn't run the ball. Quarterback wasn't very impressive. They turned the ball over. So they have an opportunity to make a big jump from week one to week two in terms of how they improve and you know, how they can try to win in their league. But other than Miami, who are they going to play that's better than LSU? Well, North Carolina, maybe you remember I picked them the way they used to see her. But I thought I was lying out there. Louisville also had damn good football team. ACC has a lot more teams than people give them credit for. Last question for your coach. We appreciate you joining us. Actually, I might have a follow up about the ramps because you just talked about us not over reacting that. It felt hard not to. Conman has a question for you back in the Thunderdome. Yeah, coach, speaking of the ACC, what about SMU? Can you just walk us through what the situation was and how you would kind of handle it? It was pretty crazy. Obviously, Florida
State, no lights game gets delayed by two hours. How do you kind of keep your team engaged? And then what did you see from SMU that makes you think maybe they are going to be able to kind of run the table, go to the ACC championship. We talked to, you know, Lashley and he's incredible. It feels like they have all the resources down there and they have a guy Kevin Jennings who's going to be able to take them all the way. What did you see from them on Monday night? Well, I've always been impressed with Kevin Jennings and if he doesn't turn the ball over, you know, he's a fantastic player. He's athletic. He's a good passer. So I think that gives them a great opportunity. Look, Florida State played better in the game. They competed their tail off in the game. But to answer the first part of your question is, you know, we never had a game where the lights went out, but we had a couple where we had thunder and all that. We had to go in and delay for an hour or whatever. So I tried to make it as real in the locker room to keep the players engaged. Like I would make the coaches take the offense and a defense over here and sort of go over the first 20 plays or
review the defense again that we were going to run or whatever it was so that the players just couldn't like lose focus. And obviously the longer that delay goes on, the harder that is to do. But it seemed to me like both teams came out and played pretty good football in this game and SMU just won on a close one. Yeah, I think last, last, uh, Lashley was talking about how there was a time where they met under the stadium with the commissioner and the refs and they had both head coaches and both athletic directors and there was a little bit of power that went up and he thought maybe if that power drops back out, they're going to move that game to Tuesday. He's got a game on Saturday. All those things happening in real time in the boughs of the stadium just felt like it was out of a movie and then SMU steals one there. Norville seemingly in trouble down there. Simulian a little bit of trouble down there for state. He's not the only one though. Every year these coaches get in trouble because they can't win enough games. How hard is it to win a game each week? Can you just talk about that a little bit as somebody that won every single game? No, I know. 17 years he was in the top 10. That cup of how many seconds got added to his clock? You think? Yeah, you're in the top 10. Second added to the
clock whenever you needed it. Yeah. No. At Auburn that didn't have it. Yeah, what was that? Grave Grave? Yeah. Is that the down digger? Yeah. Was it we should check the clock there? You know, that was in Auburn I think wasn't it? Thank you, my dad. 31. That was a Hail Mary last week of Michigan. I mean nobody thought that was going to be completed but they put an extra second on there. Give them another shot at it. Yeah, but you know, you have to actually practice those plays. I'll defend those plays. Just like, you know, I saw Western Michigan rush four guys, you know, on that last play. We always rush three and put the extra guy deep. So they're in tripped formation. We had to play five under man with three deep guys and on the last play of the game we wouldn't even have covered to running back or the tight end. We had to just let them go because if they throw them the ball, we can tackle them. But we had to play five. So we have an over and under on every one of these players. You see, Western Michigan has plenty of guys in the end zone. They don't have anybody under them. And it's like basketball, man, you got to box them
out to try to get a rebound. And you know, it's unfortunate that, you know, they had to play this play again because they did a much better job at defending the first Hail Mary than a second. Yeah, I think whatever you throw out of bounds, it helps as well. It's time to see what Bryce Underwood's future is. Also, you're the man. We appreciate the hell out of you. Thank you guys. Appreciate it. I always love being on with you guys. You asked great questions and it's my football mind Roll Loach. You look really good. Hey, the bus here. Yeah, pretty clean. I love that. Is that the is that the I fly jacket? Let me see what you do. The buttons match the jacket. Yeah, the button is matched the jacket as I got this joystick here. And the logo kind of flying the plane. You do put all your stuff together. Coach, there's that mystery. Are you clothing? mystery. Look at that. The buttons match the jacket. Oh, come. Yeah, that's class. Yeah, that one. Yeah, I was about to say I tell you move for our ease and sound floater in there. Got to express our eyes. You're the man. Ladies and gentlemen, Nick. I'm trying to show our class on the show. Thank you.
You're the best. Thank you, coach. Thank you, coach. Yeah, I don't know what, I think Nick Sabin would still be doing a great job coaching in college for buy. But sir, chance he comes back in a year. I don't think so. He does seem to be a bit. I think the NIL stuff was a big reason why he wanted to leave. And it seems like that's kind of what they got guard rails in place that he's looking at anyone get it. I mean, that ain't happening any jobs. You heard Sam. It ain't happening. Can you hear me? Can you hear me? Yeah, he said forget it. That's what he just said. Exactly. That's what you're I said, hey, I said, hey, coach, AJ just said you're going to come back to coach or something. He said, forget it and just kept moving. He's got to save the world. Remember, he's doing politics now with the protect college sports to do a PSA. He ain't got time to coach. And when he's dressing like this, he might be too good of a dresser. This guy might be a fucking model by the time I go to the next weeks. Coach, we appreciate how I do. I'm very glad. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. He said if he takes a coaching job, he'll have to commute. So, uh, because Miss Terry's not
moving anywhere. Yeah, it's a school. It's a school close to it. It was Virginia. He's a Florida guy. We love to have you. We're 20 in and out. God, do what you gotta do. All right, you're the best. Ladies and gentlemen, from one icon and Hall of Fame coach to another. Oh, yeah. Pittsburgh's coach. He's been on CBS. I believe, uh, I don't want to get it wrong. Is it 30 years, 20 years, 25 years? Yeah, we're between 20 and 50 going on year 20. I forget. It's a celebration. It isn't annual. It's either 20, 25 or 30. Whatever it should be, it's a big one. 20. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, a man who celebrating 20 years at CBS, a man who brought Super Bowl to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. One of the most iconic inzers of all time. His stash is glorious. The way he speaks. It's beautiful. Ladies and gentlemen, Bill Coy. Yeah. How you doing, Bill? I'm doing good, Pat. How's Texas? A little hot down there. Do a different coach coach. I know you spent some time down there at NC State and everything like that. I know you bounce around in a warm weather a little bit. They're saying it's a hundred. It was
160 on this turf last week. 160 degrees. Last week, LSU, I sweat through my entire suit tomorrow. I might faint. There's a chance I have. I'm saying hydrate. I'm getting IVs in me. I don't know how the South does it. Honestly, genuinely coach. What did I play that night? You're at night tomorrow and there's no sun. You're good. Yeah, game day. Same time. Game day, same time. Let me tell you something. We played Jacksonville opening day a number of years and Jerome Benes has asked me, but they made us for our black jerseys. So that already started the rivalry. So that became a physical game from the very beginning. And I told Jerome, we will count the reps that you have. But every one of those reps, you make somebody pay with the way you run the football. So just want you to know that there is a game in ship that takes place with Southern teams. Yeah, there certainly is. And we know Miami, the U certainly benefited from that. I think that the longest home win streak in the history of college football. Let's talk about playing your first week and punishing people and everything. Did you play any international games? I don't remember how international NFL was back whenever
you were the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers leading us obviously to title. It's the Australian thing was interesting here. So far away, McVeigh, vastly different style than Shanahan. And Shanahan just beats their ass. What did you see last night? What are your thoughts on how was handled? Well, I don't totally don't agree with going in there 24 hours beforehand. And if this you forgot like Miles Garrett who's already limited with his knee, a long flight like that. You're going to leave at least 24 hours just for that knee to get back to its normal side. So we did play overseas games, Pat. But we really were preseason games. I've always enjoyed going over to different places. We went to Japan, we went to Ireland, we went to Barcelona, been in Germany. And so those were great games. But I think it acclimated to where you're at. It was a big part of like to me the experience. And so the going in there that short of time, I don't think that was the right idea. But at the same time, you said to look at that game, the quarterback sneak, I don't know if I would have given that to Matthew Stafford. I give it to
a running back. They score right there. It's going to be a three point game with a whole quarter to play. And then what happens is subsequently to that, there's a drop nine and nine yards. So I look at that game, the ebb and flow, there was a part of that game. And I think as you've talked about already, getting a guy like Fred Warner back and Nick Boes and Dre Greenleau on a defensive side. And I thought Brock Purtie played great. And I think what you're talking about too, with Keon Black, him being a great compliment to Christian McCaffrey. And that's a good football team. And again, a big if is if they can stay healthy. Yeah, the questions always came to stay healthy. Hopefully they're able to key on white with a huge fumble recovery here. And this felt like the football gods a little bit, didn't it? Then it feel like this was the football gods here, especially as we saw Devonte Adams getting subbed off the field. Remember, he had like 12 red zone touchdowns last year. I think it was some sort of NFL record. He's unguardable off the line. Stafford can throw the fade every single time. Just like Brock Purtie was. So to go away from that with what you had last year and for this to end the way was, felt like it was the football gods coach. Yeah, I they stayed in the 13th person out a long time. I feel like at some point you could
open that up a little bit more and taking advantage of all the weapons that you were just talking about. And I think for that secondary. So, you know, I don't know. I think they kind of played into the hands of this San Francisco team by almost trying to shorten the game and run the football like they did. But again, it's just one or two plays and make a difference. And again, that drive that Brock Purtie put together at 99 yard drive was very impressive. Yeah, it was certainly beautiful. And last question for me before the boys have a bunch about the NFL. Are we worried about the Rams? Are we worried about the Rams? No, no, no, no, no, I think it was Sean had to do it again. I think that decision of going over there the day of was just not a good one for that long of a flight. So, and that being the case, listen, I think you look at all the preseason talk about them being the team and going out and getting there and going back. Bowsgare and what they have on offense to preseason pick. I think it's probably motivated Seattle and motivated to San Francisco 49ers. And again, this 49er team they were beat up last year. They haven't had a lot of these players.
And I think calm. I made the same. The Bibo Samuel in this offense is a great, great fit. Mike Evans, a great addition. And then you get to back healthy. If they can stay healthy, Trent Williams is still giving them something on that left side. I don't think that was anything close to Miles Garrett, but that is a good offensive line. It's a good quarterback. And I just love Kyle's system. That's a baby con man. Go ahead, AJ. Yeah, coach, you mentioned Kyle's system there. There's a lot of talk about this motion. We see you check and even kiddo there a couple of different guys doing it mainly you check the banana return all of this stuff where you don't really know where he is going to end up. I guess what are your thoughts on this type of motion? I'm sure a lot of other teams are going to try to use it. But how would you defend against this? What kind of problems does it cause? You know, AJ, I think emotion is delusion right now in the National Football League. When you talk about everybody, everybody's using, I mean, I think and I would be using the first and foremost because of like you just talked about it's a little bit of deflection from the linebackers. And a pass to the fullback would take you to the ball right now. You got to eliminate that all this stuff that's going on. You've got to be very tunnel vision and what
you're looking at and see a more a peripheral element of what that triangle really looks like. So I think you're going to see Mer effect again that we have on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings and going up against the Green Bay Packers, the Minnesota Vikings without God Frank Smith as your offensive coordinator talking to Kevin O'Connell. There are going to be a lot more motion than you've ever seen with them because he comes from a bike McDonald offense which uses motion more than anybody in National Football League. Motion right now is as at as high as from last year almost 65% of teams are using motion on every down. So I think it's a part of the next generation. I think it's great. I think it gives you flexibility. It gives you confusion. And I think it's like any of the almost kind of the Canadian football league. When getting people moving at the snap and other people sitting there stagnant, there's a lot to be stuck for that. Is the NFL going to crack down on it just like JJ kind of said right there. It's like hey if we're going to start getting you know running towards the line of scrimmage motions. I mean that changes a lot of things I think for offenses especially I mean I just immediately go with like Patrick Ricard up there for the Giants with the amount of meat they have. If we're going to really start
is this the next evolution of what offenses become here coach? Well I think listen I think there's going to be adjustments made. I don't think they're going to allow them to me. I don't know if he was actually going toward the line of scrimmage. I think the one thing he saw yesterday is a push push. We saw two offensive off sides called so clearly right now in the off season they were looking at that offense and saying you don't happen to push and you have an offensive line with he's ahead of that ball. We're calling it. So that is going to be something that was called twice yesterday with the coach pushed and that's going to be there. But I think the motion thing that I mean he's still going backwards when the ball is snapped. So there's a lot to listen is a fine line with that. Again I think it's just the next I think it's Kyle's Janan being innovative like what's wrong with that. I think there's innovation. So always take place a national football league and I love the fact that he's doing it. Look at all the off-pensives the Rams use it. Seattle uses it. The San Francisco use it. You're going to see it. Miami use it for years. So I think if you don't use it I think you're behind a ball eight ball. Man whenever they get Trent doing that which is only a matter of time. He's going to have Trent
doing this. He's going to have Trent be six yards behind a lot of scrimmage. Kind of do that a half turn and start heading forward. It's going to be a poor sorry sap. It's going to be sitting on the outside. It's just going to have to take one for the team and he's going to get put through the turf. Now con man you complimented what he said earlier about Debo in the San Francisco 49ers offense. I don't know if he saw his quarterback. Three picks in a final quarter obviously to lose the opener. Conor has a question for me. Yeah he didn't play too well but you know near to the running MVP. So I guess if you were in the MVP conversation last year you might get off to a slow start. However coach it does feel like a lot of these teams are just sloppy. You know the preseason has become this kind of session where not the the starters really aren't playing. You know Seattle I think had 10 penalties. Obviously Pat mentioned Drake May in the fourth quarter. You know throwing three interceptions. The Rams even you know staffer looked a little rusty off the rip and then never really found a groove. Should we expect a lot of sloppy football this weekend? Is it one of those things where these first couple of weeks now have kind of turned into the preseason for these starting teams? You know of course there's going to be situations like Sam
Framber they just come out hotter than a pistol and there's nothing you can do and you're going to lose to those types of teams but is that kind of what we should expect or do you think that for the most part some of these teams are just going to be ready to roll the preseason they figured all their stuff out and kind of developed their team the right way. What do you kind of take away from the sloppiness so far? Well I mean I think comment on you look at it. Let's just say this for Drake May. If Romeo and Dodd's catches a pass that's writing his hands in the early enough fourth quarter that is a whole different football game. So I'm not going to say that one or two players are talking about the quarterback sneak but this play like right now he catches like this is this isn't the fourth quarter. You catch up all you're now going right there it's first and 10 and you now go down kick a feelbow it's a whole different football game so that I I I like what I'm saying so but I do believe when you look at the offenses early in the season they are going to be behind the defenses and I think it's San Francisco wasn't because they play a short passing game. I think the long the long passing games the timing is going to be off you really
don't play games feeding the preseason these guys aren't playing the preseason obviously the short passing game that's going to be there because you can time that up the longer passing game that the deep balls that's something that really does take time and I think that will come as the season goes on. On the opposite side of the Patriots was a Seahawks and they looked a lot like what they looked like in the Super Bowl on the defensive side. McDonald I think you brought zone like 78% of the time against the Patriots here and then in the Super Bowl is like 76% of the time feels like he had to figure it out. We watch hard knocks I actually became a fan of their team. Ty has a question for you about that. Yeah coach I think a lot of people became a fan of Mike McDonald didn't really know too much about his personality or anything like that until they saw hard knocks but how impressed have you been with it. It seems like when it comes to Seattle he hasn't been there that long but we immediately we already know he has established a culture we know exactly how they're going to play. It doesn't matter if they're missing guys it seems like they can plug in place anyone in there and they're going to be physical and you know I mean they just they're unbelievable. So how are you surprised that Mike McDonald has been able to get this much out of Seattle this
quickly and would you put him up there I mean you know we always talk about these offensive head coaches but it seems like if you were going to start you know a franchise tomorrow he would be right at the top of the list of coaches you would want to you know to kind of lead your team. No question Ty I think when you look at Mike McDonald I love his approach to the game. He's going to bring you some pressures early he's going to bring some pressures late. He's going to stay unpredictable I think we look at all great offenses or defenses and I'm predictability about that makes you special and I always thought you know always having I still always say I always wanted a blitz in my back pocket for the second half to make you have to make an adjustment on the sideline not in the locker room at halftime and I think that's kind of Mike McDonald's philosophy you know he's a guy who came from Baltimore and we're talking to him when he was down there went out to the L.A. Chargers and I just think he's a guy who's got a great feel for the game the players understand he's all ball all the time but at the same time he understands he respects his team so he likes to run the football I think to get him in price need to miss a beat last night losing Kenneth Walker for their offense and I think they did a great great job with Drew Locke
bringing him in I know there was some situations there they used up the clock and had some situations from that standpoint getting to play in and out but I'd say what they are very well oil machine there were a lot of penalties I think that isn't the first part of the season but I love Mike McDonald and what he brings to the game yeah if you just have a little bit bigger jaw and you know I mean it comes with time it comes it comes with time trust me that's the last question that's the last that's the last of the hair I think I'm heading the same way boss I think I've had the same way now McDonald McDonald announced very opposite of the Los Angeles Rams who have 11 captains McDonald announced that he's gonna do weekly captains the other person that announced that was another Irish fella Mike McCarthy for the Pittsburgh Steelers tone has a question about that state yes he did coach do you know what a question for you first you know what happened on September 13th 1992 September 13th 1992 while I would have been 1992 is that my first or second game that was your second game it was your first home game and that was against the New York Jets
yeah and you got a win on your first home game obviously as a Pittsburgh man in front of this yeah correct how you think big Mike feels also on September 13th his first home game taking on the Atlanta Facts and what do you think his emotions and nerves are gonna be like going into this game and how do you feel about them on Sunday well town of listen you know when you grow up there there's something special about going back into that stadium and I've ever gone back into the three-year-old stadium on that particular day and it was against the New York Jets you know a matter of fact Pat Pat Kerwin was off the serious he was on the jet staff at that time with Pete Kerwin and he came down to look at us and he said wow they're doing a lot of goal line right before the game I guess we used to actually do a lot of goal line before the game let's get the past let's get ladder up and go ahead go ahead we did that high school coach I love it yeah but we did that we did that in Pittsburgh my first year too so I think we did a little lot of goal lines keeping pads going and and Pat went down he goes beat I don't think we have a
chance today because it's a lot of goal line doctor and so but you know what that first game is special for Mike he's gonna walk through that tunnel you know growing up right there in Greenfield I said you know it's so I write because I remember you guys I was with you guys back there when for the draft we're in that office and I'm ever being at office that office that window looks over the the monologue halo right there and it was it looks into Greenfield but so how how ironic was him to come back to the Pittsburgh Steelers into a facility that's on the south side and be able to look out your window to where you grew up and that's got to be a reminder every day to him how the circle of life works how the football gods work and I think he's going to brace this year and I think it's a team a little bit under the radar right now they're going to have a much better identity I think on the offensive side of the ball and I think Patrick Ames will start moving TJ Waddle round and I think he'll bring something to the defensive side as well so we'll see how they get off to I think he can Atlanta but the first game is a good toe is a good start obviously their situation quarterback is somewhat questionable so I think it's going to be really
special for Mike to walk out of there and at first when he comes out for the pregame yeah news out of Atlanta Cooper rush is getting on the ones Jack Strand potentially backup quarterback the Atlanta we saw him play against the Colts he spiked the ball in my daughter's base look out he actually did he was on he was big he was strong two has back thing having no bleak thing happening so he might not be ready to go interesting spot for Kevin's to fans can we also have some breaking news that has happened here while we've been live here this hour AJ Brown has officially been put on to the IR which means he's out for a minimum of four games coach obviously high ankle sprain four weeks at least and they also want him to get back healthy and you can do this now with the IR where you can bring people back over the last few years since like COVID I do believe whenever you have a new weapon on the team I was kind of surprised about how they didn't force feed them I kind of expected them to force feed them a little bit I guess McDaniel was kind of going to work his way in there just your thoughts on a new star coming to a team and obviously this
sucks for AJ Brown in the Patriots how the trolls out yeah I think you also think about the other side of the ball that's what they're thinking too right so I think the lifetime it's it's the chess match that you're playing right now and I think that they know that AJ Brown is going to be the guy we saw what he brings to it they did the flea flicker that was somewhat underthroam and AJ did a great job of creating the passer interference but you know listen it's a long year it's going to be great opportunity for the guys to step up right now and I think that's what they're going to have to do I mean you're going to have to get the Mario Douglas get involved with the game you know you know when we saw Matt Collins and Joshua Dobbs now he's got to be in part of that offense the right game will be a part so you know I think the injury sometimes early in the season it makes you be resourceful and also gives the other players a chance to play they have not played before in the real fight line of fire so I don't think it's really that I mean it's a problem for the next four weeks but I think in a long run of things getting him and I think you have to manage I think managing that someone's workload through the course of a 17 game season and being healthy going into with a playoffs sometimes I think listening to a few
games is not the worst thing in the world particularly for some of these skilled players well hopefully AJ Brown gets back healthier than ever obviously positive thoughts of prayers towards him and he's recovery everybody else that got hurt and coach you guys are live on Sunday I believe right aren't you live live in Minnesota you can get in the state against green Bay it's going to be a good one you know I'm just saying up there at tie I mean I don't know what I'm very excited for Sunday I really don't know to expect there are a lot of question marks for the Packers going into this year coach how do you feel about dyes team I think would be a better question well I listen I think you're going in there and we talked about you don't have Michael Parsons you don't have Josh Jake as part of two of your better football players but I tell you what I like their football team when you look at their quarterback I think we look at their head coach Matt before how about the fact that again and it's the defensive coordinator he knows Calamari as well as anybody so they'll be interesting to see how that chess match matches and I think it's really still KOC's offense so it's really not you know Jonathan Gannon going against Kyler but I think the one
thing Jonathan Gannon will be able to not understand is when Kyler starts to feel it get a little messy in the pocket what is his what's his instincts you step up I know all right hand corners like they're escaped to the right but I've always seen Kyler he likes to step up then step back then get out to the right he's gonna get find a way to get to the right I mean getting to the right and re-conthrill right hand is good but he's one of those guys that works up and back so it'll be interesting to see how he plays against it because John again has come out and said that Calamari is the worst is when he's out of the pocket he's got a great football team that he can throw to it's a pretty good group of skill players on the Minnesota side I love how worked up you are you losing your air pods have a great season I appreciate the hell out of your legend that's Bill Kyle ladies yeah all right everyone wraps up we're back on the other side gonna make some pics Dana White will be here be a friend telephone some nice might change your life see this a new podcast series from ABC audio in 2020 goes inside a case that has captivated the nation so many people Luigi Mangione is a modern day Robin Hood people
were cheering the demise of this person they'd never met it was a father of two and a husband and had a life and was just doing a job from the manhunt ending in a McDonald's in Altoona Pennsylvania to what authorities are saying about a possible motive I'm ABC News legal analyst Brian Buckmeyer listen to Burnin of Proof Luigi Mangione wherever you get your podcasts I'm AJ Hawks sitting in for Pat here his desk he's down in Austin Texas for a giant matchup tomorrow Rams win 27 seven football it's really fine in all time high isn't it Pat I think football is really you know we're really doing it right now did I hit it or no oh yeah you're right on okay because I did I found myself in your situation where you're a little bit of a delay so you want to go a little bit ahead of time but then your ears it never tells you if you're on or not
AJ you look fantastic pretty jock looks like you're putting on a little bit of muscle is it are you are you trying to put on a little muscle aren't we always all of us always trying to put on a little bit of muscle no so I am trying to get shredded basically I am not trying to I'm always in bulking season I'm always it's all I joke with my kids like I'm trying to get 2.95 is that what you're trying to do right now actually no but maybe at some point you look good as well I'm saying you got your because obviously your head the size of that thing you're going to have a strong neck just strictly because it's been working it's been working it's a whole neck the whole drive here I have three hour drive here I do manual neck for probably an hour and a half can you show us how you do that no yeah can you tell us what that's showing us how that neck work just hold your hold your forehead and put your head back and then do like 50 reps in a row of really yeah all you need full range of motion you gotta make sure you get the full range of motion well how do you work how do you work your how do you work your throat I know you had so what were you doing for your throat I don't have any issues with my throat no I'm not sure exactly what you're alluding to I thought you were working that can your throat
I throw it on your throat no I'm very highly used to gentlemen one half of the hammer cowboys bubble gumpine oh yeah oh good shot how are you doing everybody good to see oh hey good to see you look good pop see you too it's a lot of logo look good hey just a couple seconds ago you guys would have maybe had eyes on Joe who's right behind gumpy I should have cut that Joe Joe new man to the to the crew absolutely legend this man from Long Island New York used to be a police officer nice security guy yeah incredibly hilarious I'm talking about he's on it yeah by time either so we got a good crew here thank you to Texas for allowing us to be here we're right outside where they walk in I believe this is one of their field clubs obviously the field is here so thank you to Texas for being so hospitable incredibly excited for tomorrow morning's college game day is Texas Ho so how state a high state off a big win Texas off a big win nice measuring stick game here in week two AJ your thoughts on how this one's gonna unfold and beautiful Austin Texas tomorrow night I mean I tell you what I'm excited to see this because there are a lot of unknowns I
think in this game like every year your your rosters turning over with the NIO on different transfer portal guys but you know you have tons of talent on both sides of the ball like Texas has very overloaded with talent I have state is always loaded with talent I feel like Arthur Smith new offensive coordinator he's still getting you know feeling what it feeling out what his guys do best and will always adjust his game plan but I feel pretty good about I feel pretty good about a high state about Julian saying to last year I don't know if you've heard like the old cliche oh they're gonna take the training wheels off of yeah of saying this game last year against Texas it was basically hey take care of the ball don't lose it for us now I think Julian feels very comfortable in what he can do and let's see how they defend Jeremiah Smith because we know he garners a bunch of attention to see how it opens up for the rest of the guys I think taking the training wheels off is a real conversation piece though because it's a vastly different mindset than what it was last year I mean Ohio State's defense what last year Michael Don is one of the best ever say what a one national championship because they didn't win a national championship not talked about as one of the best ever but should be considered one of the best ever especially with the amount of draft picks who knows what these
guys go on to do in the NFL so Archway and I'm saying hello week one in Columbus against that defense with what we now know about that defense is just a wild start to his career and then for Julian saying his career to start was hey our defense is unbelievable okay we got guys outside let's just not be okay you just kind of let's get through so we lose it's your fault young young buck and that's a tough thing to kind of handle too mentally it feels like Julian saying handled it very well we talked about him in wool hards development of leadership watching will do his thing whenever they go to the national championship it's really good time for Julian saying it's kind of take the you know take the reins and just kind of become a guy and on the flipside archmaning I mean all conversation about him over the offseason and beginning of season is like this is what we thought it was going to be I was one of the loudest drum pounders for archmaning in front of a microphone that you could possibly have just strictly because I was very fortunate enough to kind of understand the way the manning family operates I was very fortunate enough to meet a lot of them I was very fortunate to be around them and it's like the manning passing academy
exists this guy is a superhero manning he can run and he can jump and he can dance sky can dance yeah not a lot of mannings can dance other than archie you know I don't know if we've seen you know we've seen Peyton try yes we've seen him don't you think we've seen a lot of I think it Texas Tuesday yeah I'm thinking he's got to tell you he can't dance for shit I'm thinking I'm thinking that's what he's going to say Eli we assume Eli could get out there and have a good time but I'm assuming he's not like a noted good then maybe maybe but arch this guy's got rhythm exactly I remember he's obviously Peyton could get after it but archie the archmaning the most athletic manning we've seen he had a lot more archie and then he used to him like Peyton and Eli will be able to get him to be able to spend his dad Koop one of the best wide receivers that his school was ever seen grown up he was the best athlete of the entire family allegedly the way they talk about it so the high hopes and expectations that I think all of us
potentially put on arch to start his career was a lot and I think we saw that for him at the beginning and then he obviously grows through that starts playing his best ball late and then last week goes for what a hundred touchdowns or whatever the case is so I think we got a great one here brewing in Austin lucky and thankful to be here and it certainly is hot but that's the way we knock it and then Oklahoma Michigan the other massive noted game of the weekend it's like what is Michigan man like what like what is a Michigan man and what is Michigan man I mean there's like multiple questions con man says cheeks there's a lot of people that are saying that obviously not and Oklahoma with mature back is this the Oklahoma that we thought they were going to be last year when they could maybe win a high-smint and a national championship and go and run for the boomer folks this could be a big telling weekend for both of their squads obviously West Virginia is going to do their and handle their business Texas A&M got Dillingham coming in there Alabama UK Will Stein had to back off you know saying bring bring illegal booze into the state he had to back off that a little bit hey listen you got to flask you you stick it in between your legs
hey they're scared to check that so get the viewing fingers and some extra booze bring it in in between your thighs they're not going to check is what he came out and said then he had to go out later and say actually we got good alcohol at state and we have good alcohol at stadium actually so do what you guys got to do nonetheless this guy I like his juice I like what he did at Oregon I like the success that they had at Oregon I like the way he's come out and he was asked like why do you think Kentucky's going to win now as opposed to before he's like me man I think I'm going to be the reason and that's why he took the job anybody that has that amount of confidence I respect and anybody that's coming out saying hey stick some booze in this place okay let's do any this place a little bit okay we need this place turned up a little bit why not Kentucky potentially especially with an Alabama team where who knows what we know about everything they got Tennessee Georgia Tech obviously Iowa State Iowa we got the Sihawk Bowl it's good at toxic table at Boston Conor and at Tyshmit Thai Iowa State about to run rough shot on Iowa here early in the season Sihawk Bowl is this normally when this happens yeah it is usually either week two or week three
before conference place starts and boy I can't see it you know you pick southeast Missouri state or southeast Missouri whoever it was you know whatever direction it was last week as your super dog because like you mentioned about a hundred guys transferred out of Iowa State when Matt Campbell left they all went to state college they all went to Penn State and they are a shell of what they were last year so boy I'll tell you what it would be very very devastating if Iowa doesn't just blow the doors off them but again is the night game at Kinnick Iowa looked very very impressive last week so I am expecting more the same did you see what Miami did last night AJ yeah they won by a couple right yeah games kind of out of hand they won by 70 hey one by five by five by seven fourth quarter was ten minutes long is that correct yeah the coaches agreed we don't need to do the whole song and dance 15 let's drop this thing down to ten they can't do a moving clock or running clock like you can in like a P.W. football but you could certainly subit down to ten minutes so we can kind of blame drain the bleeding out I think it four and five's in for Miami there's
still having success obviously there was a turnover for famoo it gets a pretty good little run in a score but it was 77 nothing and third and I don't I know the famoo coach wasn't happy afterwards you know there was a little bit of hey what's going on and I could certainly understand that but with the way this modern world is especially with how they're going to talk about Miami schedule whenever it all comes down to it you it sucks that this is the case but this is what you got to do to these types of teams this is what you have to do especially if your schedule isn't considered a super tough one whenever inevitably there's people voting on whether or not you deserve one of the 12 spots in the playoffs now granted Miami could win the ACC they've never done that before Miami could win the ACC because of the most talented team obviously last year they make it to the national championship the ACC is very weird though but having this on the resume is certainly something that sticks out and sucks for famoo but boy if you're a Miami fan you've got to be pretty pumped up about what's possible men said doesn't seem to miss this guy it seems to hit absolutely everything his odds on
the heisman are obviously plus 480 going into the season it wasn't like that and then two back-to-back games are just going absolutely crazy thrust them into the top of the limelight so to say the you is back I would say yes AJ have you ever been on the receiving end of one of those ever in your life oh boy I don't think I've been I've gotten beat pretty bad at times but I don't think 77 to the six that is a lot I mean that's get your brothers in the backyard maybe once yeah for sure I got two older brothers I'm sure they beat me up pretty good a few times but that's a that's a tough one I've on both sides for Miami they're like what a it's a no one situation I mean if you if you didn't pray if we roll the team out there the thunder of boys sure we played offense and defense okay okay could it be worse oh yeah do we have debut bones playing tackle yeah exactly what I mean could it be worse than 77 nothing in third quarter I mean if I think I can yeah really three quarters asking a lot I feel yeah can we get to have time yeah 75% of us be throwing up after
three plays true no of course that's what I'm saying like if we took in me knead it out that'd be smart three straight three straight downs and then I'll get a pun it okay then yeah we'll be all right pin them deep yeah one way what would they be able to get the 77 nothing oh man I don't think so if we're taking three knees we're chewing up a decent amount of clock in your pin and deep I gamble you responsibly on Miami getting over 77 you responsibly gambling I would be doing against what was the final score that came was the final score that came 77 they covered their team total over on the on the fumble six so good on Femoo for that one over under three and a half three and a half star I thought it was two and a half yeah might have got because while five moods just sailed over their nose like what happened it was like two and a half for some three and a half whatever it was so if we took in the drain the play clock every single time and then drain play clock for pun all snap it on one and let's say I have the best pun in game I've ever had not that I would but we pin them back do we kill enough clock that they don't get the 77
seven against us I don't know though because they're going to score every one every one we're not going to make every one who's covering who we have who exactly who's making a cup Cooper Barca and a man who couldn't cover anybody I'm just saying this is if they chose to kneel it out from the beginning is it a better outcome than what it was I think yeah yeah yeah for sure we the clock they probably had a negative EPA per play on offense for sure jeez I'm sorry fam it don't quit on ball I mean they tackled Malachi three times he had four catches but only one touchdown fill it that's a victory yeah I mean Malachi I tell you was on pace for 102 touchdowns after the first quarter against Stanford now against famo Derry Mences on pace for 250 thousand yards in a football season I mean I don't want to talk you know because people get really upset whenever we start mentioning schedules this early you know there's some sensitive alumni from different schools that are wondering why we're not bringing up you know the weak schedules across the board like I didn't hear you mention Penn State in the end last Virginia I didn't mention Miami and that came from Shane Gillis of Notre Dame obviously because
we talk about Notre Dame schedule but there is a lot of weak schedules yeah for a lot of teams that could potentially be in a conversation late and it's like a 70 point drumming of a team is it sucks but in modern world you you kind of got to do it it's like you kind of have to do it it's not Miami's fault but it is like kind of something that has to take place in this subjective world of the college football playoff that's how it is I mean if Miami won 28 to nothing don't you think you'd say oh what's wrong with this Miami offense yeah like the voters would too at the end of the season 28 feels like a four-score I mean 28 nothing feels like a pretty good win 77 to 7 that I feel like a couple of people at one point what are they thinking of at one point you think they're like all right we're getting a hundred we got it uh yeah I think they're going to get a thousand yards of offense in what in one game that is as absurd Chris the ball obviously got the boys playing hard no matter what situation is let's talk about a couple of the story lines here brewing around we already talked about it last hour two a tongue of a loa has an oblique
injury he just sat down in the middle of practice yesterday a lot of people didn't know what was going on he was named a star because penics is not there yet even though he has come out and said that he was close Reggie Chapman was the one who posted a video saying oh I just watched two of go down in a heap of paint that did not look good obviously looked uncomfortable it's an oblique injury anytime you have something in your back it could pop up out of nowhere that man right there Jack Strahan might get some rub this weekend he's a player so the Atlanta Falcons Kevin Stofanski start obviously massive question marks at the most important position uh Jim Harball has come out and said a lot of things he said that he thinks Justin Herbert is going to be the greatest professional quarterback in the history he said that's what's possible and then he also he also made this statement about folks and on anything other than the chargers uh yeah for to answer your question that's that's that's what my mind's at right now uh yeah it's uh it's uh it's September it's it's time to play our first game and uh I am I support no calls for nerd domestic other than the greatness of
the Los Angeles Chargers complete focus on uh on this game Sunday so he was asked by somebody like hey you want to go help out here help out here he goes uh I I I'm thankful they're doing that but I support no calls how did he come for no domestic other than the greatness of the Los Angeles Chargers I mean I'm going to start using that as my own so I appreciate Jim doing that anytime we are potentially asked to do something that is off the mission of what we have but he's special if him and McDaniel have a good season I am praying to God that we have microphones around them all the time AJ they have to don't you think their social media team is going to be doing like every game the every game they both should be miked up with cameras isolated on each guy for sure you have to well Justin Herbert has a chance to have maybe the biggest breakout year of his life and obviously he's in love he's doing commercials I saw him acting yeah pretty good he looks good he had glasses on at one point I thought that was awesome I like the way Justin Herbert's maybe
opening up but the fact of McDaniel sees what Shanahan just did with this use check motion I mean let's assume McDaniel has some sort of trick up his leave for this Chargers offense as well should be fun to kind of look at speaking of fun Aaron Rodgers talked to cam hey were do you hear about this AJ yeah I thought there's some some notable clips came out of that what do you say like what what do you mean people fornicating with other people for people who are situation I don't know just a lot of different style you know Aaron is a unique creative human you're around for all in his moments I think I'm not all not all I don't know if you were there for the exact statement of hey I need to go okay before we say no more to anybody else I need to go ahead and do this I don't know if you're in there but you know he did talk a little bit about the floor you know and the floor's comment about Jordan love and obviously that wasn't with cam heyward but whenever he was talking about it he said who's wild and touched are those yeah yeah will be will be in Towsha yeah there in Towsha Mark Towsha will be in Towsha their their Packers legends I assume you will
to use a writer media guy has been there forever and Mark Towsha's unbelievable legendary tackle for the Green Bay Packers I love that here's what Aaron had to say about the floors comments about Jordan love being the best quarterback he's ever coach at the line of scrimmage he's probably still mad I changed too many of his place big statement when he had a guy went back to back in VP see I guess I wasn't doing too much at the at the LOS that's clown man he says he says sometimes the funny that he like oh maybe I shouldn't have said that like he's back and I was quarterback I mean like yeah I'm sure day loves real good last scrimmage but come on man come on a clown Thai Schmidt owner of the Packers how do you feel about form a quarterback on your current head coach a clown in an interview with will be in touch yeah I love it that's just vintage rod right there you can see just completely unbothered by it does not care what do you I mean and him and Jordan love still have a really good relationship and I think he understands
like that you know the floor was just going to bat for Jordan love but when you can when that's all you have to say you know it's that is a crazy thing to say when you had a guy went back to back MVP's and he is arguably want to you know a Mount Rushmore quarterback one of the greatest of all times so yeah I got a good chuckle out of that especially when he called him a clown and then kind of just threw it away like yeah you can say that but you're wrong you know you're wrong even though Jordan love is a very good player and you know we he expects him to have a good year but we're talking about Rods here I mean this guy you know he's gonna have his number retired as a Packer yeah he's gonna have his number retired as a Packer he's gonna be a first-ballet hall of hammer we think yeah yeah obviously it sounds like he cam Hayward and the boys are very tight over there in Pittsburgh they're talking about everything together I like that like that a lot let's pivot off the NFL and let's go to a man who's a trailblazer a ground breaker a man who has a massive weekend of head he is the president obviously in CEO of UFC but also the head is Zufa boxing we got chance to talk to both guys they're gonna be my event this weekend on
pen and mount plus in Garcia in band and I tell you what two contrasting styles as these guys one guy handsome Squidward looking head is gonna have to see if he can hold up against that super quick prime Garcia and then UFC Noche also happening this weekend a man is all over the place but he's figuring it all out we appreciate him for that ladies and gentlemen Dana White what's up boys you see that I've been watching Garcia on the internet do this to influencers you've seen a two-pronged bang hit him right in the way boom boom can you tell me a little bit about Zufa getting this fight this early into your guys his promotion and what you can kind of expect out tomorrow night's fight on paramount plus yeah we we pulled this thing off it's you know it's got that big fight vibe in Vegas right now Vegas is buzzing on Saturday have two fights I start in Arizona from Noche UFC and then I fly to the to the Ben Garcia fight both shows all guys have made weight you know the big the big question going into this fight was could Ben make the weight
was it gonna affect him in the fight Ben from what I hear has been going to bed the last three or four days at 149 pounds and you waited today at 145.5 so here we go all the talk is done everybody's made weight today will do the face-offs and time to fight I didn't even think about you shitting your pants every way and you know oh yeah yeah yeah yeah I should imagine you looking at us Dale come on come on come on because there's obviously the conversation that we've seen behind the scenes of you and Kormier after John Jones failed the test and then Kormier is breaking down crying there's a lot on these guys to show up prepared and ready and be able to fight managing a fight in Arizona with Noche I love you do this on Mexican independence that I like that this is becoming a thing for you obviously your respect for the Mexican culture and in combat sports is gigantic handling everything happening with Noche and everything happening with Zufa are you I don't want to say on top of it all but are you involved in all of this or how do you do you have
problems is that you have C team also Zufa team like how do you kind of buy in to all the different stuff you have happening breaks and hats and and you know I have people on the plane with me coming back with me for Ben Garcia yeah it's it's my team is just incredible and there's an anything we can't pull off from the sphere to the White House to two fights on the same night in two different cities I like trying to keep pushing this you know how much how much can these guys take and how much going really do but yes it's a sweater leading up you know all these fighters have to do press we had a press conference yesterday then everybody has to weigh in be ready and it's just this week could not have gone any smoother than it did so it's it's been perfect the congratulations it's going to continue that way go ahead AJ Dana we see clips of you obviously for years and years at these press conferences sometimes getting in between the face off situation I guess how is that evolved over time but what is it like being in there do you in a real volatile situation when
you're standing there to put even fighters on either side and you know you're going to face them off like is there real beef a lot of times and how do you handle that what do you feel and mentally when you're up there yeah so what happens is you know the job basically is you can't let these guys touch each other because once somebody touches somebody and something happens that guy feels disrespected now the next time we get them together he's been thinking about you know for 24 or 48 hours how he's going to get him back and it just everybody thinks that I love that stuff it's the exact opposite I have security guys up there too because then what happens is it starts to break out with the camps and the athletic commissions brown on it very much so we don't need any of that bullshit but you know I've been doing it long enough we know so yesterday I don't know if you saw this online but before the face off Ryan Garcia had two eggs in his pocket my security team saw it and he came up to me before he says he's got two eggs in his pocket what do you want me to do I said have him give you the eggs get the eggs out of his pocket we don't need him hitting Connor bed with an egg and then
I have a face off again today with these two and you know what's Connie brung on a show up with you know okay so hold on to his two eggs in his pocket we obviously don't know if he's looking to throw the eggs or splash them on his head oh my god you guys catching him yes I love it first of all love the Garcia is trying to sneak some eggs into this thing you know get this thing a little active and get a little action love that you guys caught it because how experienced you are in the fight game last question from me before the boys have a couple back there in the Thunderdom boxing you're still relatively new to it okay tell me a little bit about your feel right now and what the journey is ahead for Zufa because there's guys back in the Thunderdom Zufa boxing fans I love the big fights never really got into boxing Zufa boxing is going to be my promotion I'm gonna follow you guys great merch too I got hoodie got a shirt let's do it but what does the road look like for you guys going ahead with Zufa what is a realistic road in success story for Zufa as you see right now because I know you got a lot of people that aren't happy with you guys right now in the boxing world that means you're doing the right thing so you know we're eight months into this
thing and you know we've we've done we can do canelo Crawford type fights Ben Garcia type fights Giopataya fights and everything in between you know from the bottom up we can do contender star fights you know and basically my goal over the next few and right now I feel like I'm two years ahead of where I thought I would be eight months in and we're just going to continue continue to what we do we do put our head down keep grinding putting on the best possible fights that we can with the best fighting the best you know in three four or five years when you pop your head up you're like holy shit look at the business we've built over the last several years that's what we do trust the process you've obviously done great things with everything you have touched us far excited to see what Zufa becomes will obviously ride alongside you tone digs has a question for your Dana yeah Dana kind of speaking alongside of that like did building the UFC from the ground up and obviously kind of having that model does that help with what you're doing with Zufa now because
you kind of have the baseline on like okay this is how we did it this is what worked or is there is there major differences in boxing and UFC that kind of make it a little bit different as far as building the business well there's a couple different ways to explain that so everything that I did when I built the UFC was based on all the things that I loved about boxing and all the things that I hated about boxing and look how it worked for the UFC so imagine how it's going to work for boxing and not only that if if you look at what how I built power slash and the massive numbers that oppose the sponsorship that it does and the the revenue that it generates I mean imagine three four years in the sport of boxing hey that's power slap stuff you are such a firm believer in that early I think a lot of us were like Dana everything I think a lot of us were saying just why you know like what why why is this the thing and then what you built those into live event wise and like
ticket and then watching and then obviously the numbers on the internet and you taking advantage of it becoming a digital sport as opposed to a linear sport it's like I like the way you kind of stick and move but you know everybody said Dana except the potatoes I said hey I have an idea again and they're like how much money do you need that's a good friend to have and I certainly think you've done well for them in the past so I think they when you shut up in their basement or whatever and said ultimate fighting championship I got a good idea for this you guys need to spend one million or whatever it was it's an American success story that's beautiful let's continue to talk about American success stories you know you talk about next big fight maybe we'll announce it we'll announce it then there's been some rumors Boston Conor has a question for you Dana yeah Dana speaking of those rumors you know of course the fight at the White House was incredible the sphere was incredible you always innovate kind of looking for that next thing Mount Rushmore has kind of been thrown out there conversated about as a location you know I'd like to throw in the ring maybe the Pentagon at the center of the Pentagon that'd be pretty cool yeah I don't know where else
maybe you're thinking what is kind of that process right now and where are your sights set on as far as the next big you know event for the UFC in that ill see that's what drives me crazy about when when you do like a podcast or something like that you know the rumor is now that I'm doing Mount Rushmore so I'm doing this interview with this kid and he says you know I was thinking that you probably would do it at Mount Rushmore next and I just laughed and said you know but I didn't say that the kid did it's it's definitely not and when people ask me like yes I did a ton of media yesterday and everybody's like so if this guy fights this guy will this be the next fight I'm like I'm not even going to answer that because no matter what I say a wake up tomorrow there'll be 250,000 little shitball Instagram you know fucking that'll be saying day to white so the this guy's fighting that guy no I didn't say that no it is not going to be Mount Rushmore um actually
cocky Craig Borsari just landed last night he was he's been on on the site where I want to do it for four days checking out the possibilities of getting this done so hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can break I can break it on on the Mac of the show okay well we can't wait for that we can't wait for tomorrow obviously you got UFC Noche in Arizona you got Zufa Garcia Ben in Vegas tomorrow night obviously you have contributed so much to sports and to your fans we can't thank you enough for joining us Dana have a phenomenal weekend and remember this the whole thing is on the same platform no pay per view whatever you paid your subscription for Paramount Plus uh is the cost of the entire night and I think the way hey genius I think hey Dana I think the way they're like clipping and posting the videos I think it's becoming a really good platform for you guys I assume you've learned from the other platforms that you guys have stopped at or the other streaming places to make this the absolute best stop for you because the evolution of where you're putting your
shit at obviously you're with TKO now WWE way back they start the WWE Network subscription base everybody says Vince is an idiot you're gonna kill it then everybody kind of chases that model then he starts taking the network to other places peacock as it the new you've gone obviously licensing through different place paramount feels like they're building the platform alongside you is that a is that a good way to kind of describe what's happening with you and paramount I've been in business with these guys for like eight months they're incredible paramount uh and the CBS guys are absolutely incredible what we've done in eight months is unbelievable I can't wait to see you know at the end of this seven year deal what we do together it's it's been phenomenal and if you think about all the paywalls that I've been behind for 25 years I am no longer behind imagine how big this port's gonna be in the next several years and not just you up see but boxing too you're the man and yes pan you get on you're dead on you could not be more than you're the man lazy German that's Dana why that's a big weekend for you weekend for you they were telling us like
hey Dana will fly down to Austin come to your show down there then he's gonna fly Arizona he's gonna have to ask Vegas and I was like he don't need to do that right you don't need to do that like no he will though he won't let you know that he will fly down there church out within his pop over to Arizona I'm like we're good would he just tell him to save himself like he's okay he's gonna have quite a busy day tomorrow but I do think what they are trying to accomplish in the combat sports world is in their eyes the intentions I think are pure we want to find the best fighters the best fighters there's always going to be a lot of detractors though boy especially in that boxing road it got loud Bruce you know a little bit better obviously the boxing world you become a Zufa mark there's a lot of people that hate them in the boxing world isn't that accurate uh yeah like other promoters and stuff but like Dana said uh usually these would be like eighty five bucks each and you'd have to buy both of them um to watch both of these fights and they'd probably be on at the exact same time but now uh no chase leading in to García Ben and you get them both right there on Paramount Plus so for boxing fans and fighting fans um
it's really all gravy it's the other promoters that are that are uh you know getting pissed off at at Uncle Dana for it all yeah and uh Dana said if they're not pissed off you're not there in some right in boy I hope that's true there's a lot of man people all the time everything I do ladies and gentlemen joining us now is a man who's been to face it yeah oh do you see how cool his sunglasses are so yeah you should put them on no I think you should put on the other side great hoodie too and a hundred and ten degree weather yeah what's going on here you're wearing a hoodie uh what were you just outside yeah what's going on I don't know it's weird I go I go hoodies lightweight hoodies in the heat uh I think it helps me block out the sun I like it yeah blocks out the sun no somber yeah how the last doing how the last you
how's your impression how's AJ doing running point is he good center of all like stocked in bro feel good over here Kirk how you doing at a bam good man I know I know you always handle business there how you feeling about this weekend down here in Austin well that's funny you ask I'm gonna ask you about that I do I would like to see how you feel I feel pretty good man I love Joanne saying that the the experience he got last year in this game I know it's at home versus away and all that but I think that that's going to go a long way and I hope they me and Pat talked about it earlier take the training wheels off and let this guy just go out there and let it fly and and go make some plays yeah I what a difference a year makes with with really all these guys with away over here yeah there's a lot we got this is a big guy you can stay right there do that left tackle block no I I think I'm with you I think it's it's a amazing the difference one year makes for both the quarterbacks I mean last year Ohio State was very very careful with with jewels at
this point is his first career start you know and and that kind of atmosphere and archmaning had the weight of the world weight of the world you know guys like Pat are talking about he's gonna win the highest men he's gonna win the national championship he's gonna be better than his uncles and you know I I think he personally he had what I when I think we all refer to as like the yips you know he just he just was mentally struggling to deal with all that that hype and almost unrealistic expectations and now both these guys have an entire year under their belt and I think they both come in and it's a very different thing and I think with jewels handling this atmosphere this place rocks now before maybe five years and and earlier it was just kind of a stadium and now it is a really really loud stadium so how Ohio State with a new office coordinator and Arthur Smith how they're gonna handle that I think will be interesting as well what do we got here yeah well you just we turn this one on here we turn this bad boy on here we turn this bad boy on here yeah yeah I'm going to have said to you so we look the same so okay every time we adjust to hear real
I love your takes on the quarterbacks strictly because you obviously Ohio State quarterback former quarterback and you you did throw me over the bus there with what I said about arch but I said it earlier today on the show too but I was part of the problem I was certainly part of the problem I think there's big expectations you just you love the manning family like like I mean you're you're in because of because I mean I wrote the co-tails that guy do a lot of great things yeah a lot of people you say maybe television because they don't reason mon is because of uh paint manning and let me on do a lot of different things but it's true though it's like I think we naturally thought he's more athletic than Eli and Peyton right because I think he's more like his grandfather and his dad he's never watched or see yeah great athletic but yes Archie obviously with the angst down there was running all over the play yeah so I think we had high expectations hopefully that he's able to live up to him this year I think he started out great he's great Coleman catches everything oh tomorrow we got an absolute dogfight down here oh my god now let's go to uh Ann Arbor yeah he's wearing a blue hoodie AJC is I did see that oh huh see that yeah well he
knows got some family got some family ties this is this is LA Rams blue though not this isn't oh bad not a great dead we're out of here he's got to talk to you to talk to you to talk to you to talk you there you go by the way they can hang around they what was that spread 10 but I think it's time I like that one I like I like Kentucky I like when he was talking about bringing flasks in and then they told me cats and that you know get boosted in inside stadium I like the energy he's bringing I hope the fans quarterbacks real court they got a real quarterback and wills real offense corner yeah oh my god yeah yeah they they got a Texas running back up there now CJ backster so and it is it's a night game right oh it's is it a night game I think it's 330 I could be wrong 330 on ABC yeah we knew that at 330 on ABC that's part of Disney platform or the ESPN ABC we're I think Kentucky can hang around I think they can hang around within 10 okay so you like to 10 and a half there you think even Russell maybe not able to bury Kentucky and Kentucky maybe a how you doing this is still an SEC environment type yeah absolutely absolutely and if
Kentucky can take away that running game and put it all on Russell I'm a huge fan of I don't know I think Will Steins got something going there I think he's got some juice and I think UK early in the year I don't think they're gonna win the game I think they're gonna hang around more closer in 10 okay let me break this down to you last night the Rams get absolutely shot in Australia what are your thoughts on that I'm gonna blame it on the travel you know the not having their normal week of prep not have you know both teams had to deal with it give credit to the the Niners what they did last night I mean they looked about as good as you by the way those are two of the best teams in the league yeah I know the Rams are getting all the hype I still like Seattle what we are talking at this morning in the game day meeting just that division alone how powerful it is I still think Seattle could be the team to beat I know everybody's on the Rams because of Aaron Donald Miles Garrett and what they're gonna be able to do but it's one beauty of the NFL unlike our sport is you lose 30 to seven you get back home regroup get ready get ready to go next week and I think
they'll be fine you lose the game in college though it's like our week back to playoffs yeah a national narrative is created blank of an eye I mean that's why you got to win 77 to seven if you play it yeah on Thursday night in your Miami against famo yeah like it's actually something that has to have it sucks but it has has to happen yeah by the way you said LSU is gonna win by 50 yeah 41 I was close well it but it was almost a throwaway touchdown for Clemson at the end I know yeah I think you're just BS in there I mean well filling time for sure because you heard the same thing I heard it was like hey we got a minute 40 but all right all right we will yeah yeah yeah not actually but yeah I uh going into game day I thought it was gonna be very tough for Clemson yeah to keep up with LSU yeah and then whenever I felt the crowd you know and that's what everybody talks about like hey whenever you have these people down here plunger and you're winning it's a real weapon and they stuck through that lightning they didn't know and left they were told get the hell out of here there's lightning coming we had to go inside LSU officials or tell us they didn't
much these people just stayed out there yeah then obviously trench old downpour during the day throughout the delays of the game these people were just standing out there I mean it was like if these if this LSU football team they stay healthy the quarterback stays healthy I mean they're gonna be fun to watch a fun to watch I mean they got an M in three weeks two to three weeks they have Texas an M coming down to Tiger Stadium that would be a mostly Ole Miss here in two weeks Ole Miss yeah I mean that's obviously the massive game next next Saturday but they have Texas An M I mean it's it never that's the beauty of their schedule is every week as you say a banger every week they're gonna be playing in games that you want to watch yeah Louisiana tack obviously is a big one make these is a huge one yeah okay I didn't know no no no look at look at that I mean I can tuck you just mentioned can tuck you look at tuck he's not easy Mississippi state may have one of the better quarterbacks no one's talking about coach saving came in here saying did he say the same absolute you've seen this president Auburn Alabama you know this is what they say but look at
the look at a tie I don't know if you're looking at the schedule this is what the SEC has okay this what the SEC has down here tie I don't know if you guys know anything about that big 10 I feel like has that too yeah they do herbie you know that just as well as one else does and the big 10 the big 10 may not have had the most impressive week last week compared to the SEC SEC went 16 and no you know big 10 went 14 to but maybe didn't look quite as good but I'll tell you what I was I was ecstatic with how you guys talked about Iowa on game day last week I really was that that was a real joy and then I will win out and they looked very impressive they beat the ad I love dog shit out of northern Illinois 40 to nothing how do you see any issue this weekend in the right well that they're fine well that's what I want to ask you I would assume so but this this game you know I mean it you never know this is a real rivalry game you know and I know and thinks that Iowa State can win with how many guys they've lost but it is very tough to play
at Kinnick at night but after watching them last week and then you know based on what they do tomorrow like how close do you think Iowa is to potentially be in like a fringe playoff team do you think they're in that kind of next cross to the big 10 of teams who really could you know maybe potentially be a playoff team I feel like they are every year but I just I've always I always look at Iowa with Kirk Farens as a team that is always knocking on that 10 win mark I mean they I think they've averaged nine wins over the last I don't know how many years I don't think they get credit to be honest with you time because of the style of ball that they play you know Phil Parker is as good as there is as a defensive coordinator if we you and I asked anybody outside of that region tell me about Iowa's defensive coordinator I don't know if a lot of people do you ever hear Phil Parker talked about on a national level never no uh should he be yes but I think because of the style ball that they play um they don't they don't necessarily win sexy they don't outscore people
they they hit you with a rubber hose you know they just beat you down and it's to me it's effective and it comes down to the quarterback play can they play with the big boys can they can they kind of get into and I don't know let's get I don't know we have their schedule if you can put their schedule up on the board I'd love to take a peek at what they have coming up because you know they're going to get to that nine 10 win mark and you know which to me gets them in the discussion but what are they going to do when it comes to those top teams in the big 10 let's take a peek they have that that three week stretch of Michigan or they're right right Washington and it's you know personally I think if they can go two and one in in that stretch that they they do have a legitimate chance you've won and two oh boy if you go two and one um yeah I and at Michigan at Washington they got Minnesota I know that's on the road in a rivalry game Wisconsin you're right if you get to two and one there's a really good opportunity there for them to to make a run
there because you know who's going to beat them tell me who's going to beat them after they get through that three week stretch per due pride is got a team probably not maybe Hank Brown Illinois have you have you settled on that quarterback yeah it seems like they're but no I want Hank Brown I want Hank Brown I I listen I wanted to raise heck all off season um and then I just didn't see enough and the quarterback doesn't matter I think they have one of the best offensive lines in the country like and so we just need a guy who's just not going to turn the ball over and uh he didn't he let him on three consecutive touchdown drives in his first three possessions so uh you know let's just don't look by Iowa State I hate right games when it when it's like oh they they don't have any chance you know how that goes yeah get get by this sneaky one and then get on a run yeah speaking of going on a run I'm about to pick a perfect slate oh let's go yeah let's go I've decided dumpy is that what we were talking about last night let's just go ahead and be perfect out here first one got to have it yeah well I already got it wrong last night with the
ribs so that doesn't count because it was in Australia yeah that's his own international game some count yeah and Miles Garrett can't play football for shit outside of America yeah there you go uh we found that out on that out tonight you staffer a little bit different to correct you're gonna join us for these picks yeah let's do it don't feel obligated to make a pick but if you would like to help us for sure and if you want to make a pick I'll help you I'll help you okay Saints Lions Lions favored by seven at home can I tell you what are my immediate thoughts on yeah give me the Saints plus seven go in Detroit AJ who do you want I mean my immediate thoughts are the exact same as you give me a tower of shuck in the Saints plus seven on the road do you like that herbie or do you hate that I feel like Detroit coming off a disappointing year they want to make a statement early and I know New Orleans has improved but I I like Detroit there I think they're gonna be alright Foxy how do you feel about me and AJ immediately going against the MC DC Lions to start this entire thing on yeah I'll tell you what I actually don't hate the Saints covering seven points here couldn't you guys see this being a really high scoring game the Lions uh
secondary is absolutely torch right now and we're just gonna throw for a million yards in this one and then the Saints kind of backdoor cover that seven points that's how I see this one going Lions win though yeah I like the Lions get a dove give me the Saints plus seven and AJ I like the way we're starting to season but nobody would have expected us to do that right there first one Baltimore Ravens traveling into the Laudhouse okay welcome to the NFL as a head coach Jesse Mentor you got the Indianapolis come on what you left for better what's your problem that's not that's not loud huh I know I know I know I got colds blue on I you're right but I'm going Baltimore here what's that all about we didn't ask you not leave blue what is it we love them yeah this is our team this is our cold we need blue he had to produce a key club glee club the uh yep yep varsity varsity glee club not Jay the varsity and I like that a little bit of remix there
I like what he's doing the flow is obviously throwing heat here to start the season you like the Ravens you like Lamar Jackson like Jesse Mentor I'll have you know have you seen what Shane Stuykin has done against Jesse Mentor's defense before did you look at that one I did not look at all oh uh drumming thirty eight points last year absolutely drumming well now Lamar Jackson does scare the shite out of me out of everybody but in the Laudhouse coach getting three and a half to start this thing Jonathan Taylor back with a new deal Danny Dimes back with a new deal Alex Pierce back with a new deal sauce Gardner back healthy I'll take the Indianapolis coach plus three and a half at home AJ your thoughts you're gonna ride alongside current uh centerville elk hater per curving I'll tell you what when not when this first uh this first popped up I was all on board with the coats and the more you talked about it maybe realize I'm taking the Baltimore Ravens might three and a half on the wow I got my things on this one okay Chicago Bears taking on the Carolina Panthers Carolina Panthers good football team yeah that gets forgotten about their good
awesome improved last year yeah had a home playoff game last year filled that place up sold that place out we obviously love Charlotte we like Carolina Panthers they're getting three at home let's head to the toxic table Connor your thoughts on panthers getting three and tie you can obviously chime in as well it just feels like we've been talking about the Panthers being a good football team for a couple years now taking steps now they're gonna be a great football team this season I kind of think they might be like with Ted McMillan second year Jalen Coker he's nothing to sneeze that on the other side Chuba Hubbard reasonably healthy I don't know about Jonathan Brooks I think their online is a little banged up but they also have a good defense I believe in Dan Morgan and his boys now Caleb and the Bears and Ben Johnson people love them I've seen Caleb being an MVP pick by a lot of people and Ben Johnson's gonna have them ready to go so this one's tough but three's been a pretty good number as far as the underdog goes you know three and a half for the nine years last night they cover that Pats push at three so plus three at home to open the season I kind of like Caroline and I hate that I do yeah I sneaky love Carolina as well as a
home dog but I don't know how much of that is just me hoping that the Bears lose as well so that's kind of clouding my judgment a little bit so you know I'm gonna stay away but I do kind of love the Carolina Panthers here because like you said they are a good football team Harvey push comes to shove right now Bears favored by three and Carolina I wonder if Carolina is gonna be able to score with Caleb that you know that's what that's the one thing I have more confidence in an opening week by the way September football is sometimes tough to watch because of you know I think because of what we see in preseason football so I think it's a continuation these first four weeks of NFL football I'm gonna go with Ben Johnson and I think they're gonna get to cover on the road to open it up cover the three okay one o'clock in Carolina home opener I like the bear I'm a believer in the Bears Ben Johnson said he wants to be the high scoring offense in the history of ball AJ who do you like AJ I like Carolina here I like Carolina to probably win this one outright but give me Carolina plus three okay that's a pack of it's the all-time leading pack of the pack of it's yeah dumpy your thoughts I'm with surfer Bryce Young Dan Morgan-Drigan-Cell season water all day long
yeah surfer forgot about surfer f**k first there mascot give me the Carolina Panthers so I'm on it I'm okay yeah I'm on it island I'm gonna remember that I'm taking a Panthers plus three is what I'm saying I'm taking a plus three I'm not saying AJ said they could win I'm taking a plus three I like the Bears I'm still a fan of the Bears Buffalo Beals traveling down to Houston Josh Allen Owen for I believe against Houston Texas obviously Domingo Ryan's defense is outrageous he had given up 14 sacks 53% completion percentage 9 of 30 in 2024 at 41.5 QBR lowest that any venue he's ever played multiple games at Houston obviously very loud Domingo's defense is outrageous Josh Allen with Joe Brady is he trying to prove a point AJ who do you like how do you like it I want to pick the Texans here but I just can't do it I gotta take the Buffalo Beals on the road Josh Allen I think this I love this Houston Texans defense I'm not sure they're all offense will be in their final form yet so give me the bills are be who do you like I want the bills to win because I
have them the next week opening up their new stadium against Alliance so I'm gonna I'm gonna go with just polling for the bills here okay and I'll take the ABC South give me the Houston Texans it I don't like it you don't like I'll take the bills I'll take the bills take the fucking ears Baker may fall yeah Owen for the Hasseby one right gets back right yeah yeah this will be the one this will be the one there we go yeah we go yeah I don't know yeah but did they no absolutely not now I see every blanket in ship now very good all right I'll take the Houston Texans plus a point and a half a half yeah yeah yeah Tampa Bay bucket just the all tone tone yeah the monsters off the edge Tampa Bay Buckinge near Cincinnati Bangles bangles favor by three and a half at home used to be a season ticket holder Tampa Bay obviously Baker Mayfield gets paid Vita Vega gets paid obviously have some departures Mike Evans is now San Francisco 49 or touchdown score who do you like how do you like it her be when you look at this one I don't think the bangles are allowed to win in the month of September it's got a new rule in a field just
came out with that the last few years so I'm definitely going with Tampa Bay okay Tampa Bay plus three and a half in Cincinnati AJ you're rolling with her be no it's a new time in Cincinnati the Cincinnati Bangles minus three and a half two minutes teams he played for that's the deal you heard you seen Joe pro like this yes yes yes I do what you gotta do obviously people get upset I'll take the Tampa Bay Buckinge near plus three and a half Cleveland Browns Jacksonville Jaguars Jags favored by eight and a half at home so Sean Watson obviously starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns you know Jags okay Jags my why you jumped quick at that over under 39 and a half and spread his eight and a half yeah wow it's gonna be hot too 31 3 oh my gosh it's gonna be hot who do you like Kirby I'm going with the Jags I I'm gonna the Jags are gonna win but it's gonna be closer in eight and a half okay I'm gonna officially taking the Browns okay you got the Cleveland Browns plus eight and a half I don't mind that actually I'll take the Jags of a Jaguar's
