Poilievre Slams $60-90B High-Speed Rail Plan

Conservative leader Pierre Poliev is pushing the federal government to scrap plans for a high-speed rail line from Toronto to Quebec City, slamming.

It has a massive waste of taxpayer cash estimated at $60-90 billion.

The project, run by Crown Corporation Alto, would stretch about 1,000 kilometers with seven stops, Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Laval.

Montreal, Toilet, Riviers, and Quebec City.

The first phase between Montreal and Ottawa could start construction in 2029 or 2030, running 72 electric trains daily at, up to 300 kilometers per hour, to cut trips like Toronto to Montreal, down to three hours.

Local pushback is fierce from farmers, small town folks, and town councils, who say it would slice through communities, force hundreds of land grabs, and bring little benefit to those nearby, since no extra stops are planned.

Groups like the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and Quebec's Farmers Union wanted halted, and opposition Facebook pages had pulled in over, 14,000 members.

Alto is eyeing two routes through eastern Ontario, one straight between Ottawa and Peterborough, the other curving south with at least five townships, rejecting the southern path and one against the northern.

Kingston backs the south route if it has their stop and huts Highway 401 to dodge sensitive lands, but that's not in the current plan.

Poilaver argues the money could tackle debt, taxes, and inflation, instead pointing out the old Canadian Pacific Railway got built in just four years.

While this won't see riders until 2037, with the bays heating up, taxpayers are left watching if this rail dream turns into a fiscal nightmare or a real game changer.
