1:28
Wow, wow, wow, wow, okay, just join me in a collective, woo, Philadelphia 76ers didn't
1:39
expect to say this, hold off the Brooklyn Nets to the tune of a 104-97 victory.
1:47
The Nets opened up that fourth quarter on a 25-9 run.
1:53
Thank goodness at some point in this game, one point in this game, I should say.
1:57
The Sixers led by 28 because they needed every inch of that cushion, every ounce of that
2:04
cushion, in order to make sure the Nets stayed in the losing column and the Sixers go in
2:09
the win column after today's ball game.
2:13
Welcome in, this is Lockdown 76ers Postcast, my name is Mark Barnes and I got you covered
2:17
each and every Sixers Postcast now, for now, to the end of the season, till the end of
2:22
the play-in tournament, till the end of the playoffs, figures crossed.
2:26
And also I got you covered each and every day, Monday through Friday with Keith Pompey
2:30
for your Lockdown 76ers daily podcast.
2:33
Let's start it off with three big things.
2:35
Number one, Quentin Grimes, thank you, holy Strumboly, needed somebody to step up that fourth
2:42
quarter and make sure the bleeding stopped and Quentin Grimes understood the assignment.
2:47
He gets 15 of his team high, game high, 28 points in that fourth quarter.
2:53
The bucket he hit to make it 96-91 that jumper from just around the top of the key there
2:59
that just buried it after it rattled around, made me go, oh God, thank you, they're not
3:04
going to lose this game.
3:05
That was the moment.
3:06
I know it was closer than that after that bucket, but that was the moment I went, nope.
3:11
Sixers definitely have this one in hand.
3:13
I feel like it's all, all will be right with the world.
3:17
And like I said, it was a really rough point, really in that fourth quarter, especially
3:22
When you're looking at essentially 430 left in the game, the Nets are mounting this incredible
3:30
They're in the midst of the 25 to 9 run.
3:33
Sixers call timeout.
3:35
Grimes unfortunately ended up missing a baseline jumper.
3:37
They go to the Dell down the other end.
3:39
He knocks down the three.
3:40
You're looking at it even closer game than ETN puts the Brooklyn Nets up a point 87-86.
3:47
And after that, a Dembona comes up with a hard play under the basket, gets fouled, goes
3:52
He's able to knock down both free throws to grab the lead right back from the Sixers.
3:56
Grimes comes up with a block, and then Grimes comes up with another two for two from the
4:00
free throw line in order to make sure that the Sixers stay in front in this game.
4:05
Grimes also had a great assist, Dom Barlow would have been an assist, Barlow ended up getting
4:09
fouled, then goes to the line, a great look from him.
4:12
But he could have just forced the three-point attempt, but Grimes didn't.
4:16
Good head on his shoulders there.
4:18
Put it down in the baseline to Dominic Barlow, who's able to convert both free throws.
4:23
And then again with about 50 seconds left in the game, Grimes came up with the clutch
4:28
shot to make it a 96-91 ball game in favor of the Sixers.
4:31
So number one, I'm going to quit and grimes for his performance in this game tonight,
4:36
not just about the points, but when he got the points, which was the fourth quarter.
4:40
Number two, the guy I'm going to look at tonight is also, this afternoon, is a Dembona.
4:45
Because a Dembona was all over the place tonight, especially on the defensive end of things
4:51
He only gets nine points, but he's not on the floor to score points.
4:54
The Dembona is there to block shots, which he did.
4:56
He had three of them.
4:57
He's there to get rebounds.
4:58
He ended up getting 10 rebounds today, including three of those 10 rebounds on the offensive side.
5:04
You could tell, especially in the earlier portions of this game, that the net's one of the
5:09
nowhere a Dembona was.
5:10
He played 33 minutes, and before they were taking it on him, they were definitely looking
5:14
over their shoulder to see where he would be lurking.
5:18
In that fourth quarter, similar to Quentin Grimes already shouted out a couple of plays
5:22
that a Dembona came up with, including those blocks, including knocking down his free throws,
5:26
including running the floor with the sixers to provide some great defense.
5:30
All in all, he was covering every ounce of the floor tonight.
5:33
And man, he played a physical style of basketball.
5:38
There was a couple other plays actually, also throughout the game.
5:41
There was a great Allioupe in the third quarter.
5:44
Sixers had a few Allioupes in this game, and the sixers had for a night where there
5:48
were shooting about 50% or a day where they were shooting about 50% throughout the game
5:53
They had about four or five airballs through the third quarter.
5:57
But man, when they missed, they missed big, and when they threw Allioupes, they finished
6:02
And Bona finished off a huge one from VJ Edge coming to make it a 65-39 game in the midway
6:08
point of that third quarter that just showed a Dembona being able to go after the basket
6:15
and continue to attack.
6:17
Great performance that you saw from a Dembona tonight.
6:21
Number three, I mean, we could all put this under everything I've talked about in a positive
6:26
light from Grimes to Bona to winning the basketball game.
6:29
You could all put it under the positive light.
6:32
But you could also put it under the negative umbrella of, it's the Nets.
6:36
And you shouldn't be struggling in the fourth quarter.
6:39
You should never allow a 25-9 run to the Brooklyn Nets, and I'll tell you right now.
6:46
You should never do that.
6:50
But when the Nets are netting, like they were throughout the game tonight, and being
6:56
the worst team in the NBA pretty much especially when you talk about a fuel goal percentage
6:59
in that regard, a team that's also already been eliminated from policies and contentions.
7:03
So that's also fun with about a month left playing the season.
7:06
The sixers are not playing with their stars.
7:10
So before I even get to number three, my three big things.
7:14
I was ready, especially at the end of that third quarter, to just put it out there.
7:18
My typical I don't care that it's the Nets.
7:21
The sixers have their own problems in house before they start focusing on, you know, trying
7:25
to beat a lowly team like the Nets.
7:26
And then they had to just barely get by the Nets in that fourth quarter.
7:31
But I've only noticed that bringing that up is because I understand who they played today.
7:36
We need to see good signs like from Quentin Grimes, and we haven't seen that version of
7:39
Quentin Grimes really all season.
7:40
We needed to see VJ Edge come play how he played in that first quarter in the second quarter
7:46
in the third quarter, and especially in the fourth quarter.
7:50
And we did it unfortunately.
7:52
But you're still extremely shorthanded going into this game.
7:56
I don't believe that a guy like a damn bono was 100% healthy going into this one.
8:00
We know the injury list that's out there.
8:03
We know who's sitting on the bench and all that, but man, for the sixers to be able to squash
8:10
a not only a comeback, but a lead snatching comeback, the way the Nets did, and the sixers
8:17
still respond and not bury their heads 100% good on them, but man.
8:24
These teams were way too even, especially in that fourth quarter.
8:26
I mean, the Nets had the advantage time and time again, despite the fact that their roster
8:32
Of course, porters not playing their leading score, as we know, sixers have a number of
8:35
guys that we know are also out, but bottom line of all of this is, it comes down when
8:41
you don't have the talent, it comes down to coaching.
8:44
And I didn't feel like this was really anything Nick Nurse could have done or really anything
8:49
Nick Nurse did, I should say.
8:51
There was nothing Nick Nurse did that made me go, all right, Nick is making sure his
8:55
guys are on top of it.
8:56
To me, this came down to willpower of the 76ers that were available to play in this game,
9:02
most notably a demo.
9:03
I'm assuming most notably Quentin Grimes, most notably a Dambona, and then Justin Edwards
9:08
also coming up with 19 points tonight, he certainly gets an honorable mention.
9:13
But officially number three of three big things for today, BJ Edge come came out and played
9:19
in that first quarter and got 10 points, and it was an aggressive 10 points.
9:24
He had a couple of highlight real dunks.
9:26
He had one highlight real myths that he clanked off the rim that I was terrified because
9:31
the way he was hanging on the rim, others just spin around and hurt his wrist or something
9:35
but fortunately let go right the right time.
9:36
Anyway, he missed it.
9:39
Tyrese Maxi is on the bench.
9:41
Tyrese Maxi jumps up off the bench after that and just goes, just thumbs down, boo, kind
9:47
And they're laughing about it.
9:48
And I'm thinking, ah, six years are going to be up in that first quarter, 13 points,
9:53
they're up 29, 16 at the close of the first quarter.
9:57
Let's have some fun.
9:58
BJ looks like he's going to play this game with his chip on his shoulder and this team
10:03
is going to rock it out.
10:07
BJ went the entire second quarter without a point.
10:11
BJ did not get a point in the second quarter until assuming the third quarter to the
10:15
740 mark where he hit a baseline jumper.
10:20
First quarter, 10 points, second quarter, zero, third quarter, two, fourth quarter, two,
10:28
or two before he did get four in the circle.
10:30
He finished with 16 points, Miss Goosey.
10:33
But 10 points in the first, six the rest of the way.
10:36
And that chip on his shoulder that I saw, BJ had to come out with in the first quarter
10:41
completely went away.
10:42
And I, again, you're in the midst of a blowout.
10:45
So I'm thinking, all right, this is good.
10:46
He's setting up his teammates.
10:48
He was racking up the assists, I think through five or through three quarters.
10:51
He had five assists.
10:52
He ended up with seven assists on the night and ended up with four rebounds.
10:55
Did BJ had to come.
10:56
But I was, all right, you set up your teammates.
10:59
You're not being selfish.
11:00
I wanted him to take over that game because I want to continue to see him take those
11:03
major steps forward or take major steps forward, you know, for the rest of his rookie season,
11:07
which is only a month and through the rest of his career.
11:11
And he didn't do that.
11:13
Somebody else did tonight and that man was Quentin Grimes.
11:15
So watching BJ has come tonight as the game went on, I thought he got less and less aggressive.
11:21
And also he was missing some shots.
11:22
He had a little bunny there on the baseline that he clanked off, he had three that he clanked
11:26
He had three from three tonight, unfortunately, today, unfortunately.
11:30
But defense was there, definitely hanging with guys again, no ill signs of any kind of
11:34
back contusion, lumbar contusion or anything like that.
11:37
But what I saw in the fourth or first quarter from BJ has come.
11:40
I wanted to see for the next three and really did not see it on selfish smart was playing
11:46
the point guard role a little bit there.
11:47
So you saw him be more of the distributor, but their opportunities to score the basketball
11:51
love to see him score the basketball.
11:53
He did find Grimes a couple of times on those fifteen points as well that Grimes put
11:56
up in the fourth quarter, but all in all, I thought that same aggression we were going
11:59
to see from BJ in that first quarter, we were going to see throughout.
12:02
We did not end it up still though with the sixers coming up with that victory, I'll
12:06
be it against the Brooklyn.
12:07
And that's by the way, I mentioned that fourth quarter a couple of times, 41 to 27.
12:12
Sixers got out scored, but after that 25 to nine run in the fourth quarter that opened
12:18
things up for the nets, sixers ended up putting up 18 points in the final four minutes and
12:25
30 seconds to the nets, 16.
12:31
When we come back, we'll get your thoughts on this, we'll go through the comments.
12:34

Before we get to your comments on this one, let's acknowledge the player of the game.
16:25
This is the locked on player of the game.
16:30
Quentin Grimes is your player of the game obviously as for under reveal where the game was
16:36
one or most it's the turning point.
16:41
I will direct you once again to the 50 second mark of that fourth corner where the sixers
16:46
were looking to solidify a lead and they got a six point lead or five point lead excuse
16:51
me 96 to 91 thanks to Quentin Grimes jumper as far as this is what you'll be talking about.
17:02
You're going to be talking about them holding on against the nets and being pissed off most
17:05
No matter what I say, it'll probably still the main thing to take away from this game
17:11
where you don't even be Paul George, Maxi, Ubrei, you're two things you're going to take
17:15
away from it are they need day they need it to hold on against the net.
17:23
And then maybe if there's a second thing Grimes went off, man, 15 points in the fourth
17:29
That's what I think you'll be getting into.
17:30
All right, let's look at some comments on this one here.
17:32
VJ is only 180 pounds and he has small hands.
17:37
A little contact and he misses the dunk, but the vertical leap is is insane.
17:41
It is absolutely insane.
17:42
Mrs. Salman couldn't agree more.
17:44
Jump what's going on.
17:47
Think VJ gets up as much as some of y'all think.
17:52
I would love to know how many dunk is there's been a lot of dunk misses, a lot of overaggression.
17:59
Jeff what's going on?
18:01
Neath what's going on?
18:02
Why we trade McCain and keep Grimes?
18:05
Well this was a game where you could say Grimes was really good.
18:11
Not so much recently, unfortunately, for Quentin Grimes, not so much recently.
18:18
Where y'all hiding?
18:20
What a shaky stretch we've been through lately.
18:23
Yes, it hasn't been good.
18:24
It hasn't been good, unfortunately.
18:26
But hey, here's the bounce back.
18:28
Here's the two wins.
18:32
And then the right back at it tomorrow.
18:33
This is just going to be their second to last back-to-back in a season filled with back-to-backs.
18:40
Sixers are right back at it for a six o'clock tip off against the Portland Trailblazers tomorrow
18:46
So I'll be with you guys tomorrow night in the eyes of March.

The Winter Games are on and there's no better way to follow them than with Fandall.
