We know it's been a rough week for the group, and there's been a lot of change. What does it say about the group to come out with this type of effort on home ice here tonight? It's a gutsy win by us. I mean, kind of like you said, the last week

2:02and especially last couple of days. I've been pretty tough on our team. We're losing a lot of great guys, guys that I've looked up to in my time here. And I think everyone was pretty upset about that, but then we come in today. We got two new guys in the lineup, and it kind of just felt like a fresh start. I thought we had a ton of energy and jump, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood today. It sucks to try and move on that quickly, but you kind of have to in this business. And like I said, I thought we played with a lot of energy, and the two guys that played their first game were two of our best players. That's a really good team over there. What did you do well specifically to make sure you could come away with a win over that hurricane's group? I think we moved our feet and checked. Obviously they were on a back to back, and they're such a quick team. They play fast. And I didn't think that they were at 100% tonight, and what usually happens on the back to back,

3:03and I thought we took advantage of that and outskated them. What did you make of your line tonight? Blake gets a goal, Joel gets two, you get one. The three of you seemed to really click out there, and we haven't seen a ton of the three of you played together this year. What did you make of your new line here tonight? It's rare you get calls you away from backs. Yeah. We were kind of joking about that this morning, see how long it lasted, but I thought we started well, and obviously stayed the other for the whole game. I thought, kind of like I mentioned before, we were moving our feet, and we were pressing the whole time. There was good chatter on the bench, and it felt like things were going to come. I thought, we have those goals, but there's a ton of chances that we just missed on, or just got a stick lifted, or something like that, and we've been struggling to score, so it's nice to see that. What kind of, how did you see your goal kind of materialize on the power play? Yeah, it's face off win, and a good play. I always tell Zane to shoot the puck when he has a lane.

4:05He's so deceptive in getting that shot off, even off his back foot, and a kid's blocked, and I'm kind of just turning the corner, and you can't ask for much more. It's kind of sitting there on a platter, and I think it knicks something, but we don't have to say that. We can say it went top shelf, and yeah, pretty fired up. That, Joel had scored already to make it to one, but talk us through that finish. I know you get the primary assist on that breakaway goal. What was your vantage point? How did you see Joel's, what turned out to be the game-winning goal in this one tonight? Yeah, he's really good at anticipating plays, and trying to kind of get behind D, and I kind of saw him there, and probably a little lucky that their guy turned his back to me, and yeah, he gets the breakaway, and he jokes all the time. If you go watch his college mixtape, he was a skill guy. He had some of the best hands, so I'm not surprised to see that on a breakaway, but yeah, what a move. It'll be fun to watch after I haven't watched on my phone yet,

5:06but it's a nice finish. It's a really nice finish. Last one for you, Morgan, you head out on the road now for five. What, just how important was this to know in the week you had? You talked about that to pick up a win, and to kind of send you out onto the road, feeling good about the game, feeling good about the group. There's, you know, this month is pretty insane with how many games we're playing, and especially going on a road trip like this. It's, you know, it's a great road trip. I think everyone enjoys going to New York, but at the same time, they're going to be tough games, so it's really nice just, you know, kind of like we mentioned before. Just after the last couple of days, it's really good for our group to get a big win tonight and go on the road, feeling good about ourselves. It's Steinberg along with you around the table with Megan Mikkelson and Derek Willes and Mick. That was the way that first period went. I was worried. It was 44 seconds in. It was one nothing seemed like Carolina spent all the time in the offensive zone, but they only scored once. And then Calgary flipped the switch. They were so much better in that second period. They take the lead and then do a nice job when Carolina pushes back a little bit, but that was a pretty quality performance. And I think that the resounding thing from all three of us will be that performance after the day they just had yesterday, the week they've just had. Like that was some pretty impressive stuff tonight. Yeah, very impressive. And I think he was keeping the hurricanes

7:09to just one goal in that first period. And then from there, I don't know what was said in the locker room between the first and the second, but it just looked like they were playing a completely different game. I agree they couldn't get through the hurricanes. They play such a structured game. They work so hard. They couldn't get through their coverage in any zone really. But then in the second period, you could tell they were winning races to lose pox. They were winning one-on-one battles. Their first thought, when you get pox, it was move north. And then were opportunistic and capitalizing on their chances. The high-danger chances in the second period were eight to nothing. Nine, nothing when you count a power play. Yeah, eight, nothing at five on five. Oh, and I looked there. There was no high-dangers on the power play, so that must have changed. But nonetheless, nine high-danger chances in one period against one of the best defending teams

8:10in the entire National Hockey League, pretty dang impressive. But then also, I thought, in the third period, obviously the hurricanes, they're going to push back. But for the flames to find the fifth goal in Joel Fairby, that was a big turning point too, and a great defensive play by Morgan Frost. But we talked about it on the broadcast. There's a number of players that stepped up, namely Morgan Frost. You'll lose Nozzam Kadry, a centerman. Morgan Frost is a centerman. But Kadry leads or led the flames in pretty much every single offensive category. You needed guys to step up. Morgan Frost did that. Joel Fairby did that. Ryan Strom, I mean, he literally flew in today and comes away with a couple of points. Won't be happy with his face-off circle numbers going 0-11. He was going up against Jordan Stull all night long, so we'll give him that.

9:11And then I was really impressed with Oli Mata in the way that he came in and played also. So you have players that come in, new players, that play extremely well. But then for the group also to figure out how to play in and around that, and after everything that happened this week, just a lot going on. So really impressive for them to come away and beat literally the best team in the National Hockey League right now. So it just has a lot of what the character in that room. Yeah, and when you say that, Mick, the Hurricanes coming into this game were 16, 2, and 3 in their last 21. And NHL high, 8, 33 point percentage dating back to January 4th. Brandon Bussey had won nine straight games for a second time this season. That is just his fourth regulation loss of the season. Crazy. For 30 games, wild for a guy who made his NHL debut at the age of 27 earlier this season. But for me, the Hurricanes have, for a number of seasons,

10:13been the fastest team or played the fastest of any team in the National Hockey League. So for the flames, to put them on their heels for a good chunk of this hockey game, it was a lot of fun to watch. Great start for both Ryan Strom and Oli Mata. Great game for the former flyers in Morgan Frost and Joel Faribi. And a fun night as the flames stretch their winning streak when scoring four or more goals to 51 games. What do you got to do? Let's say hello to EZ. That's what we said on the broadcast. That's a good mic drop from Dave Lowry. Because thanks, Dave. Have a good night. Dave Lowry's with us. Flames assistant coach following this one tonight. What did you like about your group's game here tonight against a really good Carolina group? I liked how quick we played. I thought we were really good in the offensive zone. We pushed box forward. We attacked. And we showed some resiliency in the third period. They got a couple of quick goals. We met, but we didn't break.

11:14And Besar gets a huge goal. And you would think that that was more than enough? I wanted to ask about the new players that came into your lineup in Ryan Strom. Literally flew in today. What a whirlwind for him. And Oli Mata on the back end as well. What did you make of their games? Well, when White Eagle was out early and you down to 5D, I don't think that the plan was to play Oli as much. And he settled right in. He's a pearl. And he's going to help our back end. He did a really good job in the offensive zone, moving off the line, making plays from below the goal line, having a really good understanding on the offensive side. And he was extremely creative. And he was really good on the exits. He made some elite plays on the breakouts. And you just hope that that will continue. And that was Stromer. Like you said, you fly in.

12:16It's a grind. And I'm looking at the face-offs. I look at it. He was 11 at Ando. I'm just moving one call over. That she don't hurt. But you know, like that's a timing thing. And you go up against Carolina with very good sentiment. And they're very good in the circle. And when you haven't taken a lot of the live draws in a while, it's obviously a show. We'll work with him. We'll get his timing back. And he's a smart player. Like he makes plays. Dave, we've talked so much about your six-man leadership group this season. For them are gone. Three of them traded. Rasmus Anderson, McKenzie-Wieger, and Nazum Cadre. Jonathan Hubert-O is out for the season. You were left with Michael Backlin and Blake Coleman. But Ryan Haska has set up with the last couple of days that there are some younger veteran players who he thinks can step up and play a bigger role as far as leadership and on the ice as well. Can you talk about the games that Joel,

13:17Therapy, and Morgan Frost had here tonight? Well, that's what we're going to expect from them all the time. But these are two guys that they've played together. They have chemistry. They made really good plays. But you talk about those two guys. But really, Blake Coleman was a huge part of that line. His speed really was noticeable as well. And they moved in the offensive zone. And obviously, you get out. You start feeling it. And those are guys that we're going to have to rely on. Those are guys that you talk about younger players per se that are going to have a larger voice. They're going to have a larger role. And it was a pretty good showing by them tonight. As a coach and as a coaching staff that's still trying to win hockey games, how happy were you when you found out Blake Coleman was going to be here after the NHL's trade deadline? Well, and I'll say this, as coaches, this is a really hard time, a year when you're in the position that we're in.

14:17And you have some really good quality veteran players. Everybody's calling. Everybody's asking for them and everybody wants them. And that's a reality. And that's a compliment to the players. And as coaches, you hate it because really what's happening is you're taking out big pieces out of your locker room. And then you don't know what's coming back in. And a lot of times it's draft picks. And I'll say it, like coaches hate draft picks. That's that line. And you look at some of these teams, right? Some of these teams that they take out five NHL players, but they've got six draft picks. Well, they don't help us to win, right? And obviously you have a plan. And the plan is to get better for the future. And you know, Evan Cole's there. He's a huge part in that in the locker room. And he always a really confident metric leader to box. Dave, when you are as a coach, you've been here as a player. You've been as a head coach and assistant coach. What's important when you do go through transition

15:20from a coaching standpoint? Like what's the coaches role in that? The big thing is to continue to teach and understand that there's a certain way that we want to play. We want the culture, the foundation. Those are critical components at this time of the year. Yeah, we're not in a spot where we would like to be. But as coaches, we have to make sure that we're pushing what we want. We're pushing how we want this team to play. We're pushing the culture that we're trying to establish. And we want to make sure that we hold guys accountable to that as well. When you talk about the culture and, you know, Ryan Huskers talked about making sure that it's a group that shows up to work every single day. Do you think that the drive, the internal competition is something that can drive your group through the last 20 games left in the season, but just in terms of that daily motivation and push for players and for the team? Well, what you want now is you want your young guys to come in and drive it.

16:21You want your young guys to push some of our older guys. And, you know, you want them to show you that they're deserving of being in every day NHL player. And, you know, some of these guys, they do have good skill, but they're learning how to be in every day NHL player. And for a lot of guys, it takes a lot of time. And what you want is you want to see these guys take the next step. You want to see them continue to improve and know that coming back into next year that the foundation is in place, there are going to be expectations in their game. And we talked about it today where, you know, you're fighting for opportunity and make sure when that is presented that you do a good job and you take advantage of it. We saw Uli Mata and Ryan Stroll make their flames debut tonight. I'm sure we'll see Victor Olivesin during the upcoming five-game road trip. And as the season moves forward, some other players integrated into this team as well. As a former player and a current coach, Dave, are you looking forward to getting the group on the road? So the guys spend some time together

17:21and kind of come together as a group? Well, I think that, you know, yes, it is a time when you can get together and you can hang around. You can go for dinners and you spend a lot of time on the road together and it is important. And it is important for these guys to really understand and learn how good a group we have here and how close this team really is. And is it a smoke break? Yeah, it was ginger in that logic and it's going on here. It is killing. I apologize, Dave. Oh, like, hold on. What's going on here? I kind of lost my train a lot. But no, ginger in a lozenge. Is that what we need to do? No, but you know, it will be a good time for us to get out there. And obviously, you'd like to showcase our fans here and have them see what it's all about. I apologize for that. It's all good.

19:22Ryan Strom gets two points. We, yeah, 11 or no in the face-up thought, as Dave said. And great point, though, by Dave, when you haven't tied him live, yeah, 100%. Mata starts off really tough, kind of a tough sequence on the one nothing goal. And he was kind of a part of that sequence. Not his fault. Not his fault, absolutely, because it kind of a turnover. And then you're kind of kind of no man's land. But tough way to have your first ship to get scored on. But then they lose Zach White Cloud late in the first, ups his ice time. And he has himself a pretty good debut, as well. Absolutely. And as Dave said, I don't think they expected Olimata to play 23 minutes and 42 seconds. Do you know what his highest time on ice was this season prior to tonight? 17 minutes and 40 seconds. He played more than five minutes more in this game than he had in any other game this season.

20:22Coming in hot, he skated on his own yesterday, because he was literally the only flames player on the ice for what was an optional activation on trade deadline day. They didn't have the full team out there today. They were still missing Ryan Strom, Joel Hanley's under the weather. So barely a morning skater under his belt. And he plays 23, 42. Pat, you missed it, because you just went to get another long lozija thing. But that's not what I was doing. His Olimata season high for time on ice prior to tonight, 17, 40. He plays 23, 42 tonight in his flames day view, because Zach Whiteclare goes down on the first period. Five block shots has an assist. I thought he got better and better and better as the game went on, really solid back there. Yeah, the face-offs are something that Ryan Strom will have to work on. I get his timing back. But here's a guy who hasn't played a lot. I got off to a tough start this season. Missed the first 16 games, dude, injury. It's kind of been in and out as a member of the docs.

21:25He really comes in hot. He wasn't here for the morning skate today. And just jumps out there for warm up, makes his flames day view, and all he does is put up a goal that an assist for two points. Had a couple of shots, a couple of hits as well. So I really thought they both played well, especially given the circumstances. And I think it's an opportunity for both moda and Strom to prove that they can still play at a high level. I know it's been a tough season for Ryan Strom, but it's not like it's been a prolonged period of time since he was a productive player in this league. He has put up 40 or more points seven times in his NHL career, including 41 in each of the last three seasons. So this has just been a down season for him. He looked tonight like a guy who can still play. And Oli modest a guy who, I know we got an assist tonight, probably won't give you a lot offensively, but defensively, I think the flames are going to lean on him pretty heavily as a guy to probably play with one of their young guys

22:25at some point, whether that's Hunter Perstavitch or Zane Perrek or somebody else. So all in all, I thought both guys did an excellent job here tonight. Yeah, I would agree. I mean, it's a lot, I think going through what you go through just in the entire trade process. And I mean, for Ryan Strom, you literally just coming in hot and only a lot of cloud, right? Like very similar to white cloud, Oli mod, I mean, you don't even get a practice with the team. You get a pre-game scape, but that's not really the same. So you're getting a crash course and all the systems and everything. So all in all, considering, I think they both did a great job. And I think there are two guys that are hungry to play more minutes. So you would expect just the drive in their play to see that level of effort and intensity. And I don't think that that's going

23:25to go away anytime soon, because these are guys who, like you said, willsy, they haven't played a lot. And they see an opportunity to play and to be in the lineup and to be difference makers every single night. And the flames have a young team. They need good veterans. 24:27As well, Blake Coleman, like Dave Lowry said, I mean, to me, it looked like he had a weight lifted off of him, like he just played a lot lighter. Morgan Frost as well. He skated the best we've seen him skate in a long time. Seven shot attempts and 71% in the face off circle, three points. But I feel like I did this was Zach White Cloud when he came in hot and had a really, really good game. I'm going to give it to Ryan Strowman. Leaves his wife and his three kids back in Anaheim as well, flies here on his own, going to be getting back on a plane tomorrow. But just considering what he's been through in the last 24 hours and coming in hot like he did and coming away with two points, we'll wash the face off numbers for today. But I'm going to give it to him. So Ryan Strowman, your hardest working flame in his flames debut here on Saturday nights. So that'll do it for a three game home stand.

25:27It's crazy. Only nine home games to go. It's a five and a six road trip and a six and a three home stand and that's it. Crazy schedule. So that is that is the end of the season. The final 20 game stretch starts on Monday. Two road trips left, 23 nights on the road. Stop saying that. It's wild. I know. Yeah, there's going to be a gauntlet between now and the end of the regular season. And I still have pack for this five game, nine day trip. Well, that's silly of you. That you know what? I don't have any. At least we don't lose an hour tonight. Oh, wait. If we were in if we were in BC, it would be the last time that we are losing an hour. I'll take daylight savings. I vote for daylight savings. I don't have an opinion. I just follow whatever the clock says. OK, first of all, hopefully nothing serious on Zach Whitecloth. Was there an update at all logo? Data day is what head coach Ryan Husker said on Zach Whitecloth.

26:29So that's good. That sounds like he might be able to make the trip then, which starts on Monday. And of course, the plane leaves tomorrow on Sunday. Let's get some final thoughts around the table on this Saturday night. The flames were at my tax, didn't you? The flames were at five or over the Carolina Hurricanes. I'm going to stall for two seconds and then say final thought starting with Megan Mikkelson. What a post game. By the way, I still feel so embarrassed that I was coughing like that in front of Dave Lowry cheese. Anyway, Mick, final thoughts, start with you. Well, we wouldn't be laughing if the flames hadn't won, I think. Yeah, probably. First and foremost, so that's a good thing. Filing or laughing, they won. Yeah, I think that we've broken the game down. We've talked about the trade deadline and all of those things. And I think that this game, it kind of sets the tone for the expectations of just the effort

27:31that this group is going to put on the ice moving forward. And like, I think it's just, it's going to be so interesting. We talk about the internal competition. Who's going to step up? You have to think that guys like Matt Cornotto and Connor's area are now sitting there being like, okay, well, time for me to put some pucks in the back of the net too. So it's going to be really interesting to see that. Getting Matt Vagridden back, how he slots in, Victor Olivesen coming in. So there's just, there's so many interesting pieces and storylines that we're going to have to talk about moving forward. It's going to be a really interesting road trip. Lots of material for our game previews. Perfect. For the flames website and social media channels. Really fun hockey game. And I think this is what a lot of flames fans have been envisioning for a long time. Rebuild, stockpile prospects and draft picks and cap space. And Craig Conroy has a ton of all of those things now.

28:34And play a fun brand of hockey. Now, not every game is going to be as fun as this one. Five goals against one of the best defensive teams, one of the best teams period in the National Hockey League and the Hurricanes. But what a fun night inside a Scotiabank Saddle Dome. And the flames who I'm sure, even though they wouldn't really admit it, because the coaches wouldn't say it. I'm sure the players wouldn't say it, at least not on the record. The trade deadline is something that's been hanging over their head for a long, long time. Once they got to a point where the playoffs weren't realistic, I think we all knew what direction this was going to go in. We were just wondering who wouldn't be dealt. Still surprise, Blake Coleman didn't get dealt. A little bit surprised that Mackenzie Weger and Nazum Cadbury did. So Craig Conroy worked really hard. I think did some great work ahead of the deadline. And now that's behind the flames. This is the group they have moving forward. Some more pieces will come in. You mentioned Victor Olivesin. Matt, if they gridden, we'll be back from the Calgary Wranglers.

29:35Maybe some guys coming up from the A.H.L. Maybe some guys coming in from the NCAA. We'll have to wait and see what happens between now and the end of the regular season. But what a fun night inside a Scotiabank Saddle Dome. The future is now for the flames. And you can't just have guys who are in their teens or early 20s. You've got to have good veterans to show your young team the right way to go about their business off the ice and on the ice. And I think the flames have a really interesting mix of youth and experience right now. And I'm anxious to see how this plays out for the remainder of the regular season. There are going to be some tough nights. There's no doubt in my mind about that. But I also think there are going to be some nights like tonight where this young, exciting team with some good veterans sprinkled in there puts on a show for us. And it was a great way to wrap up a three game homestead to snap before a game losing streak. And to do against the team that's been the best in the NHL since the start of January, that was just the cherry on top of the cake for the flames here tonight. So hopefully more of these games coming up

His thoughts post game following this one to wrap up homestand. Coach, which make it that one? I liked our game tonight. Lots of good things from the new guys to old guys. It was a good night. Yeah. Ryan specifically with the strawmen and with motto, which is what did you see? I think probably if you were to talk, I don't know if you guys did, but if you talked to both them, they're probably tired. I would assume after this one, first on the back end, when you lose a defenseman, you have to play five guys. That's a lot for a new guy coming into a lineup. But I thought he played really well. He made some good plays with the puck, showed a lot of composure with it. He was firm and he closed quick on people. So a really good first impression from him.

31:39And I have the same thing for strome. You could see the composure that he has with the puck. And that's what 900 games will get you in the NHL. And, you know, nice to see him score for sure early and have impact on a power play. And that's something that we need here moving forward. So I was really pleased with both of them. We talked a lot about the future last week or so. How nice is it for you to get a couple of guys back in this and Victor will still join the team soon? But you get a couple guys that you can throw in. You, as much as like everybody always talks about, hey, play all the young guys, just play them. You need good people around them to show them how to play the game, to teach them the rights and the wrongs, and to help build their confidence. Because if you put young guys in situations continually that they're not ready for, it hurts them. Their development goes the other way. And that's why it's so important that Connie was able to add three older quality people. They're going to help push in the right direction. So we got a glimpse of that from Strom and Matt at tonight.

32:44And we talked before the game about other guys now have to come out of the shadows. And I thought Morgan Frost's line tonight was excellent. So both Morgan and Joel and their line mate Blake, I thought they were terrific all night long. Do you have any updates on Sakwai Cloud? No, just these day to day right now, we'd say. Yeah. So on Farabee, there's opportunities for the new guys in Mata and Strom. They both see this as an opportunity. But for Goliath Farabee, how is this an opportunity for him to? Well, Farabee, but I put other guys in that category as well. So Morgan's in that category. Conor Zari's in that category. Possible's in that category. Sharon Golvitch is in that category, where you have to look at this as an opportunity where you can almost solidify that, yes, I can be part of the solution moving forward. So it's one thing to be a good player. One night, but you can't disappear for four, five, six games and then have another good one. Because you have other guys doing the heavy lifting.

33:45The heavy lifting now falls on their shoulders. And this will give them an opportunity to either rise or not. Unfortunately, we're hoping that they all rise because we need them to. But that's kind of what we're at now. We're going to see if guys can handle it. I went back and I like the first two or three weeks of the season, like almost laugh, because we were asking you how Joel Farahreep just couldn't score. He was really snakebitten. And now you watch him, he's playing with such confidence. Has that, was that a gradual process? Or was it just a matter of chopping wood and getting it done? I think chopping wood probably staying with it. Most guys, when they're not scoring, you get concerned when you're not getting chances. When they're getting chances, you just ask them to keep shooting and keep going in the net and in practice, really focus on bearing down in those opportunities. So it becomes a little bit more second nature. And I think he stayed with it. He goes to the net a lot. That's where he always is when he scores his goals and he's got good hands. So he's finished and that's good for us. When you didn't have Zach, you turned through a lot of different defensive combinations in the second period. Did you find a mix that you liked?

34:46And what did you think of your group? I guess responding to his absence. Well, you don't have combinations when you're down to five. So I thought they all did a very good job. Like that's a lot of minutes for guys to pick up when they're typically not used to playing that. Whether you look at Paol or Zene, they're not used to playing heavier minutes. Like that because they're typically in our third pair. So I think the five of them did an excellent job tonight picking up the slack. Zene Brecht, pick up the assist tonight. But he's looked a lot more confident in the last few games, at least from my vantage point, handling the puck more or setting the puck towards the net as well. How do you evaluate his progression and maybe since the Olympic break? Ball goal further than that. The two games prior to the Olympic break, I thought he was very good. The two games after the break, I thought he was not very good at all. And the last couple, he's gotten better from last game to this game for sure. Where I see the same thing that you're seeing where the composure, the confidence to handle the puck is starting to come to his game like it was the two games prior to the Olympic break.

35:47When we talked to Strom, he did say like, part of why he's so excited is he wasn't getting the opportunities that he was hoping for. How much do you like having a guy come in and just he's got something to prove and just wants to play? Well, you want that. You need guys that are hungry. So oftentimes we talk about like the middle group, a younger guy's 25, 26 year olds that have to be that way, but there's older guys too that we often forget about that still feel like they have a ton to prove and they have a lot that they can contribute to a team. He's one of them, all he's one of them, Victor is going to be one of them. So I think when you have people in those situations, they drive the room and it creates competition. So it's a real positive. Just being strong and he has a real presence, very articulate. Like, did you get a chance to clean it that this is going to be a good voice for your community? You know, I was on a World Junior staff when he was on the World Junior team here in Calgary. So I knew him a little bit from that time. I mean, you know, it was a very well-spoken young man at that time and I think he's even more polished now. So he's just got a strong sense of self-confidence

36:47and I think he's got a great demeanor about him that's going to be, it's going to make other players feel very comfortable going to him. So a mentor type role, I think, will suit him to it. And look, Carolina's second half backed back, not a very good second period, not a very good game from Brandon Bussey, all those things. But you know what, like the way this week is gone and the way that the last 72 hours have transpired for the flames, like, I don't know, I felt good for him tonight. I felt good for Blake Coleman. Look, he basically was all but not run out of town, but traded out of town. Like Logan, he's gone. Me, he's gone. Francis, he's gone. Sarah Bali, he's gone. Fans, he's got like, we all thought Blake was getting traded. And you know, Blake was very, very honest when he spoke with us this morning. Like, he was really torn. He would have liked to go and play for a contender, but he would have, he was also happy to stay here and he doesn't end up getting moved. And so he goes out and scores a goal and it's a big goal.

38:50And it made it four, one at the time. And I know that was really cool to see Blake Coleman score. I was happy for Joel Farahby, number one star in his first game wearing an A on his jersey. That was neat. I was happy for Ryan Stroll and only modded to get way more opportunity than they were getting in their former teams. And it was just cool to see as a group for Backland, for Coleman, for Lombard, for Ball, for some of the remaining veterans on this team, for them to go in and get a win and at a quality win, like they were, they were full marks for the win tonight. 39:51winning, they have done everything in their power to lean into this, yeah, they could have completely gutted the team. They could have traded away every veteran. That was never going to happen. But they traded away their number one center. They traded away their two best defensemen, or two of their best defensemen. They shut down Jonathan Hubbard O for the season when they, when they didn't have to, like any, and what I mean by that is, you know, have they been more competitive? I bet you he's continuing to play through it. Now the trade deadline's done. And they have made the moves that a seller makes. I'm probably going to push back pretty hard on texts and calls that get upset that the Flames are winning because they've done what they were supposed to do in the spot they were in. They've leaned into this being a bad season. Now that, now we get to see what this group looks like,

40:53what some of these younger players look like, and what some enhanced roles look like for some certain players was cool to see Ryan Strom with a goal and an assist in his debut for the Flames tonight. That was what I need to see. Let's hear from Ryan Strom. Let's kick things off going inside the Flames locker room. Strom tied the game in the second period and then had an assist on the Morgan Frost power play goal. Here is Ryan Strom inside the Flames locker room post game tonight. Hard to feel first time Flames see on your chest. I guess it's a blasty this time, but I'd feel. Yeah, it was good. I mean, it's been an absolutely insane day and busy 24 hours telling my kids and stuff of getting traded and stuff. They're pretty emotional. So long day, but as hockey players, the easiest thing to do is just go out there and play. So that was the easy part. I can't say enough about the guys in the room. Honestly, this is a really, really good dresser and a lot of character guys, very vocal, made it very easy on me, very welcoming, and obviously when you see one go ahead, it feels good too.

41:53So it was fun. World one of a day, but a good first start here and just try to prove I got a lot of game left. And I'm really thankful for this opportunity, and it's gonna be a lot of fun. What does that day look like? Well, I couldn't make it to LAX yesterday because traffic that's the only direct flight. So I was up at four this morning and seven AM flight and fell asleep on the airplane unfortunately and they couldn't have this afternoon and eight o'clock starts, it's a long day. And yeah, I'm just dead. So you have so much adrenaline that gets you through it a little bit, but it's things happen so fast. I mean, I was kind of preparing for something to maybe happen, but you can never really predict it. So like I said, there's so much credit to the guys in the room and the coaches, everyone, just super welcoming and made it really easy on me just to go with their play. And a game like this, especially playing with two guys didn't play with before. How do you adjusted that, especially coming off of the day you had? Yeah, you know what? I think one of my skills is that I can read off guys. I've always been having the ability to play with good players

42:54in my career. I've got the opportunity to do that and right away, I could just see that posp. He's kind of like a straight line guy and he gets in there. And then I thought Zahar was really good at night. He was kind of dancing with the puck, making plays. He's trying to encourage him to make plays. And you know, you get a few bounces. It feels good, but obviously it's a learning curve. And you know, just try to take things day by day. I mean, it's a good first step. But, you know, you know, on the road here and have some fun and I keep John with the boys. You've been training really seem excited to be here. What is it about the opportunity? You know what? It was just such a tough situation for me this year. I think that, you know, I think that I'm a better player than they kind of treated me there. And I think that I got the short end of the stick, whether it was a little bit of injuries and a bunch of new guys coming in. And that's okay, that's hockey. But, you know, for me, I kind of, you know, I could have probably just taken it and you know, been an extra forward and wrote it out. But, you know, I'm a competitive guy and I want to play. And, you know, my family and my wife encouraged me to do this and, you know, just keep pushing and keep playing and, you know, it's great. I mean, I love playing the game and it sucks sitting out. And I did it a lot this year and it's not fun.

43:55So, yeah, I'm excited. I mean, the NHL is a great league. And I've said this before that I've kind of been in a few of these situations now with Islanders and the Rangers and the ducks were kind of on the upswing here. So hoping that I can bring some of that knowledge to the dressing room here and help some of the boys out. But honestly, what I saw tonight, especially off the ice, I'm pretty impressed with the group in here and the character that's in here already. There you go. That is Ryan Strom, a post game. Tonight flames went at 5'4 over Carolina. Let's get to the text line for the first time. Tonight at 9'69, 60. Jeff in Lethbridge says, my interest in the team has returned. Thank you, ownership for letting this team finally take the right steps toward building a future winner. I have faith in the scouting staff and Craig Conroy. This is from Jeff in a medicine hat. For how fast Carolina play, it was exciting. How the flames skated to match their pace. I was pleased with Ryan Strom's energy. I'd like to see back when Coleman and Coronado put back together and elevate them to the second line.

44:56Maybe this is Frost and Therapy's time. Finally, if Perstepitch is going to stay with the Wranglers and play big minutes, then I'm hoping Pahal stays in the lineup. Well, I guess we'll see depending upon white clouds injury and that comes from Jeffrey in a medicine hat. I do think that we will see Perstepitch recall that some point could even be as early as like tomorrow ahead of the road trip, depending on white cloud status. You heard that head coach Ryan Husker say there that he is day to day with that upper body injury. He sustained in this game. If you missed it, white cloud got hurt late in the first period and didn't return with an upper body injury. So we'll see where that goes, but we could see Perstepitch recalled at some point. And I think we're gonna see him recalled at some point anyways, but that this might expedite the process. Dylan and Revy pleasantly surprised by Strom and Moda. Thought Moda would be awful and Strom would be okay, but both are in the fabric of the game

45:56and look very good and Strom looks fast. Turns out trading cadre results in offensive zone passes, ungritty team play and goals. I'm completely unshocked and couldn't be happier. He's gone. They may have won, but the rebuilds on Dylan on the text line at 9.69.60. He says eventually he'll stop ripping cadre. You know, Dylan's never been a Nazum cadre fan. I've never quite understood why, but you know what? Everybody's entitled to their own opinion. Greg in radium. I hope the voice is feeling better. It is very, very slow steps. I'm excited for a Sunday where I don't have to talk at all. Farah B was great. Perak looked good and the new guys seemed to fit in well. I understand where this team is in its rebuild, but I can still enjoy the wins while hoping for a top three draft pick. Go flames go and I hope the flames talk team has a great weekend. And that's kind of what it is now is is, you know, now this is the group and they've made the rebuilding moves. And now we see what the group has with the remaining team

I noticed that Mata was way in a position on more than one occasion, but a few reps with the fellas. He'll gel right in the direction. 49:01My name is Pat Steinberg. Let's say hello to wetly to kick us off on the phone lines tonight. What's up, wetly? Well, how's it going, man? You sound a lot better. It's getting there. It's getting there, but it's slow. Yeah, well, it's frustrating to do. Let me tell you this. It is demoralizing how slow it's going. But you got to keep on plugging away. You got what I think you, maybe you forgot what I had this that Christmas time right before my Christmas break along with that crazy flu. And I didn't get my voice back till God, mid January, end of January. So took a while, but just hang in there and just keep doing all you can really, you know, I wish I had no fun when you got it when you got to talk through it all to you're living. Yeah. That's the problem. That's why it's so demoralizing. Right? But it is what it is. Sure. No, you're looking at my respect. You know, try to get a day off and Conroy ruins it all with making trades and, you know, how dare he. But I'm glad you brought it up first.

50:02Actually, I was going to start off my call that way. I really hope there's not at least for one night people hold off on the, I can't believe they won because with the week it's been and all the changes and guys flying like storm and just take this one win. It is not going to screw up our draft lottery. So though, I really hope we don't get those panic calls today. I know I like to bring it back to real life. There's a kid from the, if you've those paid the pension to the BC shooting, she's fighting for her life with a bullet in her head. That's real life. Freaking out of our hockey team winning one game on March 7th, like, can we at least get back to a little bit of sense here, please, you know, I'm glad you said it. So the guys deserved it, like, especially after Carolina scored, like, what was it, like 30 seconds into the game and like, oh, it could be another, and I had busty in net. So I'm more than happy in my hockey pool. I'm more than happy to lose the points today. So it makes me proud of what this team, like, yes, this is the first real rebuild.

51:06I'm old enough to see the 89 team dismantled, old enough to see Ginnland, everyone dismantled, but this is probably the first official time, at least since I've been a Flames fan since 89, that we're going down this path and they're going to win games. And I'd rather see this that they're trying and they're still going to lose more than they win. And I still can't believe I know we had that fun bet over under three. I did not think Audrey would go. I just think the cause I thought the contract was too much with one retention spot. So and we get through me off too. I didn't expect that. Right. No. Because there was a lot of, I know you, I know you were not the braggie type or you told you so type, but you are one of the few people I trust when it comes to Flames news. And I'm not just saying that because I've listened to you for, like, 15, whatever years. When you said those stories about ownership, don't want to put buyouts and all that and people were freaking out and people were freaking out at 12 o'clock that Audrey wasn't

52:06traded. Even though they fully know trades come after one. There's a lot of, I told you so's an apologies there, but again, I get it. Some people are still mad at Edwards and that's their opinion that's fine, but at least now they're doing it. And I was never team tank. I can tell you that right now. And you know, I'm always a positive guy always like to let things play out, but circumstances have changed. Now I have to join team tank because this is what you have to do. Yeah, because I keep thinking we almost kept all in. Well, if Lindholm had accepted this contract and Hannathon, oh boy, but they're finally doing what they should have done. Whether it was after Johnny and Tachak left or, you know, they're finally doing it. And I can't remember who it was on social media that posted, okay, all you team tankers. Now to put your money where your mouth is, support this team. Don't be throwing jerseys on the ice. Don't be saying you're done and not showing the outside time. It is easier to support a team when they're good, but it takes effort to show support when the team is not going to be good.

53:06So it's nights like tonight because there's a lot of paying customers. I'm one of them. Next year, we might 20th years of season ticket holder. Right. I still want to see an effort. I don't want to see them just go out there and lose on purpose or get blown out like a, yeah, there are some defensive lapses today, but that come on. There's new guys and I'm glad they still won and you know, you send everybody that made there somebody there tonight with their first hockey game. They probably had a great time. So I hope, and I'm glad the message, Oscar is sending, we're not going to rest on the laurels. We're not just going to give up to get a drive, you know, they're still going to keep trying like as if they had a shot at the playoffs. And I like that, you know, and I hope they keep it up and that's the message and that's the culture you want to see. Well, I mean, no, no team would ever do that, right? I mean, like, well, Brian Husker, Ryan Husker has to coach because he's a coach to win because he's an NHL coach and I don't know, it would be hard to tell Blake Coleman or Michael Backland or any of these guys still on this team that, you know what, we don't care about winning because that's all these guys are wired to do.

54:11And so, yeah, that's easily kind of salt today if he wanted to, right? Like any, and he couldn't, but he didn't, he played like they were still in a playoff hunt today. Very impressed with him today. Fairby and fraught stepped up. I like what I'm hearing at a Ryan's show. I never really followed him that closely, but he's another guy that's got like that white cloud positivity to him. And I know he's 32 and I know someone's going to call and complain. He's taken a spot, but for now, he's on the team and those are the kind of guys I like to hear on the team because, you know, to get through to the next point, you need guys to create that culture now so that when we're ready to take that step, those young guys also have that same continuity like, all right, this is the standard in Calgary. This is how we play, right? That's the idea anyway. Yeah. No, I'm more than fine. Like I said, I, I, I did not think Conroy would get those deals done and got the cap, you know, not that we needed the cap space, get those off the books and he's really done

55:12a good job. Like I his Ryan Pike that I always check that spreadsheet and the amount of assets we've accumulated like holy dine, you know, I mean, I totally forgot about this. And we're not going to keep everybody obviously. And I like where we're headed, like I can honestly say, for the first time in a long time, I really like where we're headed. And if people just trust the process, we're stealing the NBA line, let's just see what happens and quit freaking out about the draft lottery on March 8th. It's not till May. Let's see where our position is. Let's see what happens, you know. And I, I, I do, I will say that I think a lot of people are, are very much in that mindset. Like I, I think, I think the people, I think the people that have wanted to see this happen are, you know, I've seen a lot of it on the text line and a lot of it on social media that, hey, we're asking for this and, and it finally, it finally happened. And so I, I think there is now some, okay, like we're, we're excited for this and, and ready to, you know, dive in and, and, you know, accept all of what goes on and what goes

56:20as being part of a rebuilding process, because it can be difficult, like, there are a lot of losses and there are some really tough stretches that go along with it, but the goal is to be in a few years where, say, San Jose is right now, where, you know what, they, they would be, I would say their chances of making the playoffs are more unlikely than likely. And yet they still are playing meaningful hockey here in March and they've got, if, if you're a shark's fan, you're excited about where your team is going because you've got a superstar and the team is going to be close this year if they don't make it and, and looks like they're moving in the right direction. And so that's kind of what you're hoping the flames are when they open the new building and, and those types of games, so that's, that's what it's all about now. And we can officially say goodbye to the Mashi Middle, like, I know, when was it, the Monahan-Gudrow Year, they kind of pivoted it back the other way, but I don't think that's going to happen this time, but just because hardly in those findaway flames got them back

57:23into the playoffs all of a sudden, but. Well, and Brad and, Brad and, and the team also altered course like, like, yeah, actively altered course from going through a rebuild to, okay, we, we, we've got something here and so, yeah, that, that, that is something that I don't think they will do again. Mm-hmm. I'm going to say one more thing for I let you go, because then you've got other callers, but why are people, not all, some are convinced we can't trade, this makes no sense to me. Cory Perry at 40 got traded for a second and, and whether they go down that road or not with Coleman, whatever, deal with it then, I still think you can trade him at next year's deadline or the summer time, no. Yeah, I, I still think you can, my, my point has just been and, you know, maybe I'll be proven right or wrong, I don't know, but my, my feel was or my thought was that his value was never going to be higher than where it was at, at this year's trade deadline. And, you know, having, having talked to a couple of people since Friday, I think that,

58:28I think they got offers for Blake and, and I think that they definitely had interest, but after trading weager and after trading cadre, and they, they were pretty sure, even though it didn't come out for us a little bit later, they, they, they felt for a little while there, that they were going to be able to trade knives. Yeah. So they felt that like, okay, that kind of makes it where we really want to keep Blake. And so now, much like Zach Whiteclown, who I can tell you, they got, you know, from what I understand, got some really, really good offers for Whiteclown as well, but they felt like for both guys because they do feel like good veterans are important as part of a rebuilding process. Yeah. They, they felt like they, unless you were going to knock their socks off with a Blake Coleman trade or offer, they were going to keep them once some of the others come fine with that too, because I know, I know, they still, they still could move him this summer or, or at the, the next deadline, right? Yeah.

59:28Cause I, like I said, the, the, I'm not picking those guys are talented guys, new tall, but how many years of losing, the losing cultures of like, you just can't keep getting rid of that and letting the inmates run the asylum. Like, you need people to show the young guys, cause I know some people think is we can build a team of all young guys, but it's not how the NHL works. Like you still need people to show proper way of doing things and shield them from things. And you know, it's, it's, it's still, they're still value in that. So I'm glad that they kept them anyway, but we'll see, see what happens next year. But anyways, I'll get to other callers and don't forget to turn that clock forward. I thought it was backwards. I took order a good friend and legend, Robert. Picks, picks, picks, Patty. I was thrilled with the flames tried deadline. I mean, trade deadline. I thought we got very good return for Codry. And it's definitely a great get for Colorado to get Codry. Back. And I really feel now like Colorado is the favorite to win the Stanley Cup. It's a complete win win for both teams. Yeah, I mean, I agree. I mean, they did really good on the trade. And I think Colorado is quite happy with what they got in return too.

1:01:34Yeah, absolutely. And also for Codry to I'm happy for him. He was a great play man. He did. He was great. I mean, he was worth every penny of that $7 million that we paid him. You know, really was. He was a great player. You know, he had his ups and downs. There's a lot of people did, but he had way more ups and downs. And he was a very impactful player and centerman for us for us. And I wish them all the best. You know, he deserves a shot or another cup. Yeah. And he's a he's a really good fit with that avalanche team as we know. So and the abs wanted him really bad. And they did what it took to get him. So yeah, I think that it's kind of a win-win for both sides in that regard. I'm actually okay with Coleman not being traded because Codry obviously wasn't getting what he was asking for. And rather than take less, he stood pat on a player that still has a year left on his deal.

1:02:34And also showed that he's not a pushover, right? So when he perhaps tries to eventually trade Coleman in the off season or who knows? And if he chooses to do so, other GMs will know that Codry means business. So, you know, it's good. Like I honestly, I'm not even that upset about it. I think if we would have got a blow away offer, Coleman would not be a flame today. And we didn't. And so, you know, good on Codry too. Good on Codry. Sometimes the trades you don't make are good too. Yeah. And I can tell you this, like there's nothing negative about Blake Coleman still being a flame. The guy is a consummate professional. And so, him remaining with the flames is like there's nothing bad about it. Now, whether or not he is a flame beyond next season remains to be seen. But the guys, the guys of Pro, the guy is a coach's dream, a teammate's dream, all those types of things. So, there's nothing bad about him staying here.

1:03:34And we'll see what the future holds for Blake. Absolutely, my friend. You said it perfectly. And then finally, I thought, in my opinion, that was probably Faribi's best game of the season. He was so impactful, put up three points, scroll pulling a kind of mini yoken in there. For all the people who will get that reference with a nice impact in his debut game. And then Frost looked great as well. So, good on those guys for stepping up and, you know, playing great games. And, and yeah, even even more than I thought was really good. You know, so they, they, in particular, Strowman modder weren't getting the opportunities they wanted at their previous teams. We're going to get them here now. So, you know, show us what you got. It's again, another win win. I mean, Strowman has about five million left on one more year. Mod as a UFA after this year. It doesn't work out. You don't have to recite them. I mean, Conor to great work, then I can't, I can't say enough about it. I can't tell you how excited I am for the draft. I mean, when I saw how many ticks we got in the first three rounds.

1:04:35Now, again, they mean, you know, those maybe packets together. We don't know what's going to happen. But it's just having all that currency patty. Just greatly tight to be like, I've wanted this for so long. And I know a lot of fans have wanted this for so long. And I'm so happy that we're at this point. Yes, losing sucks. I get it. But I'm telling you if they draft well and I have every confidence that they will just based on the last few drafts. I really finally, I have this belief in me like we can make this a contender. You know, might take three years, might take four, but I think we can finally, finally get there. And I can't, cannot be more thrilled for that. And like other people have said, yeah, put your money where your mouth is now. You know, you have to, like, I will keep supporting this team. You know, whether they win or lose, now I'm a diehard tickle. So it's, you know, but irregardless. You know, irregardless. So like, I'm going to be walking the games. I'm going to be supporting this team. Next year might be another rough one. You don't know. You know, we could be going through the same thing next year.

1:05:37But, you know, they're. And this is not. This is not. I don't know this is controversial to say. You kind of hope that this is what it's going to be next year too. Like they need, they need a few players to really start to turn the tide in turn. So, you know, if I, I guess what I would say is. If next year is a rough year, that's, that's okay too. Yeah, I'm with you. I'm totally fine with it. You know, the big part of me hopes it is because I want to get another high end pick. You know, I want to keep accumulating picks because I want there to be no doubt. I watch seems like Anaheim. I watch seems like San Jose. Like how exciting must it be to be a fan of those teams right now? You know what I mean? I want that to be us. You know, I really do want that to be us. And I feel like we've never been closer to achieving that goal than we are right now. So, you know, just keep keep it going.

1:06:37And like again, I, I read people one more time. I was super happy with the trade deadline. I mean, you know, awesome stuff. And also awesome stuff on the. Or you think that you know, fulfill, fulfill the role kind of as as backland successor is as captain. Yeah. Do you think there's someone in the lineup today that makes sense is a natural successor that's like you think it's going to be here with the team for a little while already. That he's stepping to that role or do you think that's still very. I think I think it is in a lot of ways that there's still a lot of things to determine there in terms of guys on the roster right now that come to mind that the guy that maybe comes to mind most is is Coronado. And I say that because he's a hard worker and and plays his ass off and you never have to worry about those things.

1:09:42And and also he's committed to this team for the long term with the seven year contract so you know that that would be one that comes to mind but you know I think that's one that's really going to have to. I think that one's going to have to really play itself out because you know who knows where what whether it's some of the guys they decide to draft or you know some of the other guys in the organization who maybe start to come into their own in that regard. But but you know in terms of like right off the top of my hand yeah I guy like Coronado really jumps off the page to me. That's a that's a great pick I would absolutely and and I also think I also think you have like a way to early kind of question. No I don't think so and I also look at guys like potentially therapy if he's going to be here for the long run I think about him as a potential I think about you know what's going to happen with white cloud I mean like in terms of the things white cloud and Coleman are both guys that like our instant fits but are they going to be here for the long term is kind of the question and so.

1:10:52That's why maybe I didn't go to either of those guys first because those would be the two guys that like off the top of my head you're like okay well like white clouds got everything that you think you'd want the captain and so does Coleman like both those guys feel like they're tailor made to be. In those roles but you know one guy's got two years left on his deal and the others guys got one year left on his deal so you kind of wonder like what what does the future hold for for those two guys so that's why that's why I went with a guy like Coronado because we know he's going to be here for the long run right. Yeah no I hundred percent get it and before I jump into the next question I just want to say it was it was awesome to see you on in the intermission on the on the broadcast on I think it was Thursday night thank you man I was I was up with I was up to state. So with my parents I'm forced I was up for a funeral but I'm forced by parents to watch the flames game I'm forced to resolve it's not great but I was I was calling you out so it was cool to see on the broadcast and.

1:12:00Oh nice happy happy to get in the recognition there thank you man of course and then I think I just wanted to say it was like your first caller on the show I think it was. Wesley yeah Wesley or is it wendly it's wendly with a D it's it's kind of a he's he'll be up mad at me for saying this but he's a his name is actually Matthew but he's gone by wendly on this radio station for so long that we we allow him to we allow him to use a pseudonym. All right well he he made a comment about you know like how. He would be upset if people were calling in tonight being upset about the flames winning tonight I just wanted to kind of reinforce this comment about you know like me coming to Calgary this month it's like I want to I want to go and see a team that's going to try and win.

1:13:02And it was so refreshing tonight coming out of this deadline to see the team put in the effort that they did tonight and beat a you know a cup contending team yeah that's that's the way. A team might effort tonight it was just like it was really awesome to see everyone's buy in on you know not just giving in to the fact that this is a rebuild you know and i'm happy that they committed to the rebuild don't give it wrong but it's still great to see that the team is buying in and wants to put. And it was really awesome to see them perform it's out for you know for each other and and for the fans every night and and you know it makes me excited to go see i'm going to go see him on Tuesday against the Rangers and you know go see him.

1:14:06You know at the end of the month and it was pretty cool to see the effort they put in tonight yep yep I feel that. And the the last thing I wanted to say before I let you get your your next caller is I saw a stat and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I'm just. Just kind of surprised to see it i saw a staff at the NHL put out on Instagram it was either yesterday or the day before that. Devon coley leads the league in safe percentage he does yep he does. That's really incredible he's he's having an unbelievable season I know he's having a I. Like anecdotally seeing him being a fantastic goal vendor but like that's pretty cool to see that he has.

1:15:07She's leading the lead can say from all of all qualified goalies he has the top save percentage you go take a look at some of the the other more advanced goalie metrics as well right like they. Goal saved above expected and then especially the one that even did out goal saved above expected per 60 minutes which kind of even did out and and makes it relative to minutes played as opposed to just the the overall total he's also number one there at. At money buck he's he's had an unbelievable season he's been he's been one of like if you were to rank the pleasant surprises for this year. I think he'd probably have to be if i'm being honest he'd have to be number one especially for the way training camp went and kind of the narrative coming into the season surrounding backup goal tending. What what Devon coley's been able to do this year I give him all the credit in the world i would have to say is the most positive story that the flames have had this year.

1:16:13The question I really wanted to like follow up with there is statistically has he been a better goal tender this year than dust and wolf no absolutely no not the dust and wolf. Yeah he has been next statistically players on the team but i'm just curious I don't. Statistically absolutely yep he's been in most of the the metrics we have a goalie expert by the name of Kevin Woodley on our our flames talk show during the days i don't know if you've heard him before or not and he. He's a great guy yeah and a lot of his metrics have coley have both wolf and coley very highly rated this year but but yes coley and in a lot of statistics has been better than wolf and and that's not to say wolf's been bad he's really after a rough start to his season he's really got things on back on track and he's having.

1:17:15He's a really nice restart that wolf was really good tonight very understated but i that a wolf had himself a really good game and and the two games he played coming out of the break he had the one game where he was pulled and maybe wasn't as good in that game against against Alice but otherwise wolf's been really good coming out of the break too. Thank you so much i really appreciate times always and well i actually i wanted to ask one more thing if i have like one more minute. Yeah absolutely is that okay yep i wanted to ask you because i haven't seen a lot of detail online and i think you're probably more in touch with it the most of the so of the trades where they got the prospect and they got the the guy from Cornell yep. uh and the prospect from Colorado i forget his name max cura he i met the the yeah correct yep yep.

1:18:18What is could you just give me like the 30 second read on each of those guys and if there's anything to be excited about i just really haven't seen a lot of it online it and i figured you're probably. Probably more in tune with it so i'm not a prospects expert or anything like that so i want to prep is anything with that and and but i have the good notes well and and and i i definitely talk to some people in the flames organization about both guys and kind of what they see and and other people so on on kastanya the the guy they got from. Not from in in the weager trade from Utah the Cornell Center uh kastanya is they really feel like he's going to play in the NHL he kind of he kind of projects to be kind of as a ceiling maybe a number two center and and maybe slightly more realistically maybe a number three center. But they feel like he's going to play like and a lot of prospects guys feel like he's got NHL upside and and a good chance of being in an NHL center so that's the kastanya front good two way game really good in the face off dot works his ass off and and he's having a really nice year offensively at Cornell as well and then current again he's a center iceman he had shoulder surgery earlier this year so he's not playing.

1:19:42But again they he kind of projects to from what I've been told and kind of organizationally kind of projects is kind of like a number three four center in the NHL is is where kind of his NHL projection would be. Awesome thank you so much well it's nice to see them I know like down the middle has been a consistent gap in the prospect pool for this team so it's nice to see them kind of showing up that but I really appreciate the time is always and and thanks around me on okay right we'll talk soon man and enjoy the enjoy the game in New York. And hopefully if he's not good to go hopefully it will open up a room for under bridge which right that would be that would be the the logical move yeah all right got you fair enough and I don't think when I call last time to say I got to react on the McKinsey we get trade but now we have got the straight to quick point on that I think considering how the flames want to go in the direction of the future. I think that was a great trade for both McKinsey we got came as a surprise to me and then Kadri last minute also especially like one hour after the trade deadline we got the news about because flames were on cue of course but both of them were great place so they will be definitely missed.

1:22:06What are your thoughts on the trade deal can you rate it from a scale of one to 10 one being the least favorite trade or 10 being the favorite trade how would you rate this trade. I don't know if I'll do it one to 10 but I mean I thought it was it was a really good trade from the flames either they both either they did well are we talking about the cadre deal or the weaker trade both you can add both. Yeah I mean I think they did really well like I'd give them thumbs up on on both deals because they in both cases we were talking about players who had a lot of time left on their on their deals so we were talking about what whether there were five years left on Wieger's deal and three years left on Kadri's deal and so you know moving those types of contracts in season and getting good returns on them is not an easy thing to do and so I think that that really jumps off the jumps off the page to me on both of them.

1:23:15So I thought they did really good on on both trades I really do and they got they got a lot of draft capital in both trades including the first round pick in the cadre deal they got a couple of decent prospects and and more importantly it just signaled to fans that they are willing to do what is necessary to build this team the right way back to being a contender and that might be the most important part for me of of all of it so yeah I have it a great on on both of those trades. Okay good yeah I agree with you as well very maybe surprised that one of maybe Paolo Hanley were in mode or do you think that was the right way. I don't know what the offers were or weren't on those two but I thought that there was a decent chance that one of them could move so I don't know if I'm like shocked by it but maybe a little surprised. Alright that's fair enough. Alright one final question for you maybe a bit of a topic but I know they are not talked about potentially maybe World Cup of hockey coming to 2028.

1:24:23Do you think it's similar to cricket World Cup hockey and how different would it be from the Olympics. I mean did you if you watched the did you watch much of the four nations last February. Yeah I did. It'll be very similar to that you know there'll be more teams involved there'll be a couple of sites there'll be a European site and then a North American site but we'll be very similar to the four nations just more teams involved. Alright that's okay fair enough so we could like to be more entertaining and fighting and I'll come back to the Olympics correct. I mean I think did you not I quite enjoy outside of Canada losing I thought the Olympics was great so I think if it can be what the Olympics was then I mean I think it'll be very similar to that. So we're just going to try to keep doing that and try to keep a few more. How did he feel like your game? That was okay. I mean couple minor mistakes here and there which are bound to happen. But it's unfortunate when they end up in your net and our guys are excellent out there tonight and you score five or you fully expect to win and notice that we got the two points. How your team reacted after that first goal 44 seconds and what did you think? Yeah, I mean that's our group. We were a resilient group. We just haven't had a whole lot of puck puck and it certainly feels nice to get that win.

1:27:37Obviously you don't want to give up one that that's soon to the game, but you know that that's hockey for you. So you learn and you keep grinding and you find a way to get away. I know Devin had the blackpads in the Dallas game and then he switched to the white pass for the last game. You were your white pass tonight with any any catching letters. Well, I mean you know some gear feels a little bit better than others and you know we've had a lot of jokes between me and him about what gear we want to use. And there's a couple inside jokes that maybe I shouldn't share but it's you know whatever you need to to where to feel good and that's what we're going to do. First impressions of the two new players in the lineup. Other outstanding I mean only was great there back there for me he was talking with a lot of puck touches and made a whole lot of nice plays. You know collecting puck string and making nice little plays in the middle and excellent puck mover and then obviously stronger puts up a couple points which is exactly what we need.

1:28:38It just seems like two really good character guys that are certainly needs right now. Is your approach change at all when you have defense back there? I mean you need reps and even this morning that we we chatted a little bit on the ice and no the easiest thing is is when I'm touching pucks back there is for my demand to talk to me and he was excellent at that tonight. And obviously we're going to keep learning each other and getting better. There you go that is Dustin Wolf post game tonight back to the text line for a few minutes here at nine sixty nine sixty Audrey. Even after all those trades Audrey is still being pessimistic. I'm happy and I think it's beneficial the guys we brought in play well as a stop gap because they need ways to score still but let's hope they don't play too well or the tank is screwed. 1:29:42Audrey I don't know what to tell you they traded away cadre and weaker I really don't know what to tell you like they're doing it you've been clamoring for a rebuild and they do it. You have to then be okay with whatever results come in the final twenty one games and I have news for you they're probably going to lose a lot more than they win and even if they are loose. This is a this is a pretty depleted roster and so anyway. Like you don't have to be passive like they finally are doing what you've been calling for you can you can gear down the pessimism a little bit Audrey and I say that because Audrey's a regular texture and so I feel like I can have a little bit of fun with them with them this from ash. Easily therapies best game as a flame and thought that this was the most comfortable correct is looked in an NHL game. Finally if the flames gained two roster forwards in Olipson and strong and lost one in cadre who gets scratched next game assuming gridden also plays regarding Olipson do you think there's a realistic chance the flames resigning I'm considering he'll be a UFA I have no idea he hasn't even played a game yet so no idea on Olipson as for gridden.

1:31:00I think there's lots of things you can do you know you could take possible out you can tell there's lots of things you know lumber could be a guy that comes out. There's also that there's there's lots of things that you can do to get some of these guys in the plan is for gridden to come back that is what we've been told so it's only going to be one game in the American league but yeah that that there's lots of options for them to get both guys in and Olipson doesn't need to be in in the top nine or the top six or whatever like. There's there's lots of things that they can do I'm not really worried about that as we go down the stretch here. Colin and Marta loop that what's the plan for gridden is he going to play with the Wranglers again tomorrow or as he headed to Washington as far as I know basically what Craig Conroy had said is that he was going to go down and play just the one game and then and then come back up so I'm expecting him to be in the in less plans change and I guess plans could change but I'm expect I'm expecting him to be an option to play against Washington on Monday. Kyle and Okatokes how can you not be proud of a group of guys who lost the bulk of their leadership core came out and put a lunchpale and hard hat effort on the ice tonight.

1:32:12What an awesome effort by a group of character men in that dressing room. This reads Pat I know they put an A on therapy and will on white cloud and they still have backland Lambo and Coleman on the broadcast they were mentioning ball is having leadership quality. I'm wondering in five years do you think the next captain is currently on the roster to any of the younger guys have it in them to lead the room. Yeah 100% obviously tough tough saying you know by to some really good teammates and some really good guys and but you know on the flip side I thought we got you know two really good players and you know I thought it provided a good energy in the room and you know I thought we came out with a lot of energy.

1:35:51It was really good effort and they're obviously a really good team so definitely feel good. What does it mean for you to have an A on your chest today. Yeah a lot you know it's one of those things you you kind of work towards your whole career and you know for the organization and the guys in the room to you know think of me like that and you know to get the honor to wear it. It meant a lot to me and my family and you know I can do now is just you know trying to be a good leader and you know I feel like I'm you know at that age where I'm kind of in between being a young and an old guy. So I feel like I you know have a little bit of a voice there and you know I think with backs and goals and and the leaders we already have at you know I'm excited to learn and just keep improving every day. I have to tell you I'm just here about you know how you know the type of player you are and you're actually like I'm not going to be a third of goal scorer but like you got 16 right now like me and it does feel like the offense is really kind of a lot. Yeah I feel like you know kind of my whole career I've kind of been a streaky goal scorer and you know I thought for us staying goals were unbelievable tonight. And they made it you know easy and you know they got the puck to me and and vice versa.

1:36:55So really like the chemistry we had and you know I think you can't look too far ahead I think we just got to you know take it day by day and keep building. I think I know you guys were exactly where you want to be but you take a look at kind of like that second period and go that sort of how you want things to look and feel on the ice all the time. Yeah 100 percent I mean you know they're a top team in the league and I thought that second period they could barely get out of their zone you know we were kind of all over them. So you know I think the thing with this group is just being consistent and trying to do that every single night and you know I think adding the two guys we got and obviously get you know all sent here in a little bit. You know everyone's got something to prove in this league so obviously we're not you know in a spot we want to be but I think the guys in the room are going to keep fighting till the end here. So there's a bit of a theme with the new players there new opportunities for them but what are all three existing in the room with the absence now with Wiger and Codries? Is there an opportunity for you as well? Yeah 100 percent I mean I think there's opportunity for everybody you know I thought even tonight obviously with Whitey going down you know we played five D most of the game and you know I thought Zane was awesome and you know a lot of the demons stepped up and playing more minutes and things like that.

1:37:58So it's going to be a lot of that the rest of the year and you know I think the guys in the room have to embrace that and I think we're excited for it. Strom has played eight hundred and ninety eight career games if he plays every game through the end of the season and all next season the last game of the season will be the one thousandth a one thousandth of his career so twenty more games this year would get him to nine eighteen. So it would be the actually be the remember Ken there's eighty four games on the schedule next year so wouldn't be the last game of the schedule but it would be near the end of the season he'd actually have a little bit of wiggle room if he needed to miss any games if he wanted to get to a thousand next season because remember next year they go to eighty four games in the regular season your point remains though that he could get to one thousand next season.

1:39:09What else we got here at nine sixteen at nine sixty. Dave says do you have any thoughts about the flames using a bunch of their draft capital to go after bedard who was set to be an RFA. Like the offer sheet that you'd have to put on the table for Connor Bedard would be massive Chicago would match it it just it's it's a fun thing to do it's just not realistic and the draft capital. That the flames required means nothing when it comes to an offer sheet and I say that only Dave because the compensation when you offer sheet somebody is all your picks so it doesn't matter if you've acquired seven hundred picks from other teams your picks need to be you need to own your picks and it's your picks who end up or that end up being in compensation now if you have other picks maybe giving up your picks doesn't hurt as much. But yes offer sheeting bedard seems unrealistic and yet I kind of would love them to do it just because it would give us a heck of a story and finally from Isabelle and Rocky Ridge nice to observe Conroy Beaming while watching the fruits of his handiwork the young guys sees the day against the league's best and the new additions added and gravitas to the team that comes from Isabelle in Rocky Ridge that'll wrap us up on the text line.

Young forward with wittin back potter freshman all those guys you got some good deal with Henry muse obviously per act like what do you think if you had your GM had like i'm just curious more near end of.

1:41:42How would you like to see Conroy draft and like what you think they're looking for like even size of players it seems like they're going a little bit bigger on guys are bringing over you know everyone's over six foot but. Loaded question just kind of more want to see what your thoughts are on that well it's it's kind of a cop out answer but like. Like it's it's the like draft the best players and and I know that sounds like a cop out but like okay so let's let's say they end up getting the number three pick and we don't love them to get the number one pick that'd be amazing but let's just say for sake of this conversation they get the number three pick this year okay let's say that McKenna and Stenberg both go. And a lot of people like well. Verhoff Verhoff's a right shot defense man you have Perreq who's a right shot defense man and per step it choose a right shot defense man and muse who's a right shot defense man. Do you do that not draft Verhoff well I say to that if Verhoff is top on your list like if you get to number three overall your list has Verhoff as the top.

1:42:47Player available you take Verhoff and you don't think about it and the same is true for the rest of the draft and I think as you get later in even as you get later into the first round maybe some of those some of those things you can relax on or you don't necessarily have to be as. You know as strict with the absolute best player and maybe you can start getting into a little bit of a positional conversation but honestly part of the reason why the flames have done so well since Craig Conroy took over as general manager at the draft and and specifically the last two years at the draft part of the reason why. So many people in the 24 and 25 drafts were were so impressed by what Calgary did was because they did just that they drafted the top players available and and so. And they just drafted for for skill and they they drafted for making sure they got the best player that was still available on the board and so to me don't change that and and if you have too many of one position while now you have an embarrassment of riches and now you're dealing from a position of strength in a trade it just.

1:44:06That's the way that I would be looking at it and the flames and honestly that's the way I think the flames will be looking at it. Yeah and I you think to like with pile enough of the picks like I feel like it's just a lot more ammo to the potentially hey we want a guy like let's move up let's just package like another second with our first and then maybe we move up like five slots because like we want this guy like it. I think you just give them a little bit more flexibility in that sense because like there's they got so many picks in the next three years it's Connor has been cooking. He has indeed he has indeed.
