Not so ironically because of a lack of green that wasn't the only reason why the Suns

with the Phoenix Suns a brutal one to the Minnesota Timberlost on the road on the second night of a

back to back. 116 to 104. We're going to talk about everything. Yes. What went wrong in this game

but also a big picture as the Suns playoff chances took a rather legitimate hit today.

hanging out with us here on a Tuesday night on a St. Patrick's Day night. Gentlemen, that sucked.

If this team wants to be a playoff team, you cannot lose opportunities like you have the last

three games. You have essentially put yourself out of the playoffs because you have not been able

to close two games and then win one that you needed against the team that's right above you.

This is, to me, this was the death now. You're three back of the Timberwolves. That's the team

that you had the tiebreaker again. Sure Denver's right there too. You don't have the tiebreaker.

You have to pass them. We've got 13 games left and you're kind of scrambling for answers with

the spurs coming up on Thursday. Right now for me, I think it's time to start looking at

the clippers, making sure you keep them in eighth and you get that home play in game because

I do not feel good at all about the playoff chances despite the fact that the freaking western

conference parted like it was the Red Sea. You had every opportunity and then you go and lose three

in a row. Just tough as one you had to have. You needed to get it. I said the door stays open

if you get this one. That's what we kept saying about this game and it's tough circumstances.

But who cares? The NBA, you got to go make it happen and they were unable to make it happen.

Didn't have enough. Didn't make enough plays. Got caught up in some spots where things could have

gone their way. But the game certainly got away from them and that's just unfortunate.

And now you're facing what you're facing.

Offense has the answer. Teams are meeting them with resistance in ways that

might not always be replicable for most teams, but for the teams that you are vying to be competing with.

Pass the end of May and getting into. Pass the end of April. Excuse me.

You have to figure out these answers and this is a very important information gathering

portion of the schedule for the Suns. I know no one wants to hear information gathering,

but they're being met with tests coming in different ways against different personnel

and their office is not answering to the test. They're being challenged with that this

present moment. This is still part of the season for them where they're still figuring things out

especially being healthy for a change for the most part in the guard group in particular.

And it's still clearly have work to do there. You brought up not shooting while you look at it

and I think the broadcast said since the first of February they're shooting like 41 percent

from the field. Not going to get it done. Yeah. That's that's that's very telling considering some

of the scoring bursts that we've seen from in tandem, Devin Booker and Jaylen Green.

But also those two are doing an independent of each other as well. That says a lot about the

faction of the roster outside of those two in particular. They have to they have to figure it out.

They have to get a rolling in quick. I think one of the hardest pills to swallow about

tonight's loss specifically isn't just that it's the timber wolves right isn't just because of

the playoff standings because you know if you picked up some of these other wins against the

Celtics or the Raptors or the Bulls you'd feel like relatively okay. This gill and you brought

this to my attention is their first three game losing streak since the beginning of the season. Yes.

And to not respond in the way that you needed to respond and I get it you were down Dylan Brooks

and Mark Williams and Grayson Allen on the road but against a Minnesota Timberwolves team that

didn't have Anthony Edwards not lost Nas Reed for a little bit of time and that you had the momentum

against and then you just had nothing for them until the last what two and a half three minutes

of the game where we finally saw some of that like give a crap some of that like oh man the fire

is under our ass right now and we need to avoid it which you should have had that coming out of

the start of the fourth quarter where you came out flat to not have these responses in the ways

that you've had them all season in the most critical moment is disheartening to say the least.

Very disheartening disappointing as well they came out of the gates playing really well I think

about a couple of sequences at the beginning of the game where they had that towards start there

was a steal and transition led to a bucket and they go up big early and that was the first time

where the Timberwolves responded and we talked about hey the Timberwolves aren't just going to lay

down they're going to have a response to this and the teams went back and forth for a while but

similar to what you were saying Stephen there were moments where the Suns could have turned to

corner the Suns could have continued to impose their will in that those manners because that was

the type of efforts that we saw against the Cleveland at home against the Detroit at home just

making those extra plays in heaven just a little bit of extra juice and something that we said during

the game is when you feel the absence of Dylan Brooks you needed to win this game to dig deep

and on the second end of a back-to-back get a crucial win to help yourself in the standings against

a team who's trying to do the same and help themselves you had to be able to fight for 48 minutes

this team did not have 48 minutes of fight and I'm not going to say that it was something that they

loathed understand the circumstances they were facing but guess what boohoo everybody's been in

that situation at some point this season and they probably did give 28 30 32 good minutes but

that's not going to cut it and filling in that gap is where you really really miss a Dylan Brooks

who can galvanize that group the same way that Jordan Goodwin doesn't when he's on the floor same

way that other guys are doing it at certain points when they're on the floor there was a massive

gap you really felt that absence and that's when you saw the Timberwolves kind of create that

distance and they took that big lead in the fourth quarter and it was like can you get one more

fight back in there and the suns could not get it back to single digits it's all she wrote I have

a question for everybody okay where would you blame Jordan not in tonight's game for the loss

tonight I don't I don't know how you could blame him he tried everything he rotated

guys you know and you know I don't think you can blame Jordan not on this one the last two

I think you could have questions about the way substitution patterns and whatnot tonight know

and to the people saying in the chat that Grayson Allen was out because of injury management no it

was the other knee that he hit knee to knee yesterday and I'm guessing there's probably some

swelling so that wasn't a Jordan not decision to let him rest so that's not even on Jordan

I won't say his blame because I don't think as much I can blame him for I think that as we said before

it's gaining experience and the big thing is he doesn't know the handy's going to have to play with

until the day of especially you have like a Grayson Allen situation I think what he tried to do

when we saw it a little bit was keep the rotation and the guys on the court fresh and I think he's

still learning how that works best with what's available for him but that's not anything to blame him

that's just a circumstances that he has to coach around and it's up for the guys that he trusts

those combinations that he puts together to work while on the court now can you say he should have

pulled this combination or tried a different one sure but anybody could say that about anybody so

that's not even a a blame or a critique that's just the fact that a matter maybe they try a

different line up or maybe they experiment with this or that but I think that's just learning

more than anything and blaming the starting lineup tonight the one quarter they won was the first

quarter I'm not playing again Royce was hitting three like I'm not blaming starting small and I'm

somebody that's been pounding the table not to smart small but that wasn't it tonight either

Eric do you see any blame for Jordan I mean no he threw everything out there tonight I think a

lot of people will say well why didn't Haywood High Smith play more minutes especially following up

on a really great performance against Boston but he was on the injury report coming into

the night with right knee injury management I don't even know if the plan was to have him play

at all tonight because they actually sat him on the first half of back to back earlier

on the beginning of this road trip but he's been so impactful and against a team like Minnesota

you would think okay maybe Haywood High Smith can go out there give you some better minutes against

a Julius Randall who at certain points was eating your lunch but at the end of the day I don't

look at Jordan not because I can look at a lot of different players and talk about how individually

they need to perform better tonight and I think Gil what you said when they just didn't have it

I don't think that's necessarily a coach hot thing because we've seen this team have it in times

where they shouldn't have it right and I think when you look on the court and you see the

amount of mistakes his team made or how they were getting bullied some of that's personnel I don't

really put that on coaching this was a really tough loss and maybe there are things that none of us

can see that Jordan not could have done differently but I I leave this game just more disappointed into

the sense of urgency of the players that are on the court and how they played I don't put

that on coaching because that's not been a consistent theme this year I posed the question

because seeing things in the chat seeing things on social media as well and our question

what is it that you are a scene that you feel like the coach should be doing better they're

seeing losses Steven that's what it is it's the results and that's when I'm getting back to

the simple math part team loses does not equal coach did not do his job

same way it goes when players play well like you can't that's that can't be the default button

team's not playing well coaches not good that's not the way that works I go back to looking at the

game we all just got done watching 48 minutes of sun's basketball less than 30 minutes ago

we all just watched all of this 39 points in the first quarter 24 in a second 23 in a third 18

in the fourth those two middle quarters how does you close those quarters

Minnesota went on a run at the end of the second quarter going into halftime and at the end of

the third quarter going into the fourth that's where you win and lose games a lot of times those margins

I know people get tired they get a lazy ear about mentioning margins margins margins margins there's

a long list of margins that coaches look to dictate and win from the start of a game to the finish

when I say start I mean the literal start of the game because guess what they look at the jump

an opportunity to gain a possession that's the type of sickle close to the best type of thing

the detail you have to look at and when you're not winning those things on top of not navigating

the middle quarters well you lose your way and when you lose your way you give a team even without

their best player a chance in front of their home court home crowd to do what they do best and they

just close the quarters well they did it much better than the suns and the suns were constantly

playing catch up even after scoring almost 40 points in the first quarter so if we're talking

about where the suns lost the game and we're not just pointing the finger at individuals look at

the process of the game the way it started and the way it incrementally just kind of went

fell off a cliff piece by piece that's where the game was lost and that execution part has

nothing to do with the guy that's on the sideline that's the five pieces on the court simply not

having the execution level now that happens at times because it's the end of a back to back on the

road that was a tough loss last night you got guys that are important to your rotation that aren't

available for you but you can't just go from team lost I didn't like one lineup that they did

or didn't use so I'm pointing the finger at him when there's a 48 minute window that we can

look at and assess things that just simply weren't even close to where it needed to be for the team

and a lot of people talking about side where is he just going to magically make this roster

well if you can't get bigger you got to figure out a place where it is I'm like what are we supposed

to stack two guys on each other and go go out there boys win us a game like and man man

playing extended minutes that wasn't going to change tonight he played he played okay in the

minutes that he had but there's only but so much impact he can have in this game because he's

just not the biggest guy on the court knows minutes you're going to give him yeah and I can see

the argument maybe Fleming over Royce a little bit more but we also saw Fleming be ineffective

at times we saw Royce knocked two threes in the first quarter to help you get to almost 40 points

when I was thinking too we have to be smart with this I mean it's kind of like a game black

right when you play these younger players you don't want to go over and play too long to where

it starts to become detrimental towards you so you have to trust your eye trust what you're seeing

the flow of the game and say look maybe we cap it at 12 minutes like maybe 15 is as much impactful

minutes we're going to get from ratio Fleming 12 minutes from man man and thinking about the match

up thinking about the issues that are posed by the timbrels there was one play Steven it wasn't even

really Julius Randall's strength it was his quickness when he had the spin move and got the

M1 dunk it might have been an M1 we got the dunk and when when we're sure it was guarding him

and the strength part we probably didn't see before the catch but how do you think that Julius

Randall got it and closed the sheer Julius Randall caught the ball around the wing he was it was

it was a high post up but that's what Julius Randall likes to operate but he made his move really

quickly so you have to think about the little things like that and see that because I know

so I mentioned like versus garden as well to be frank he had 32 points everybody got a little

bit of that it was more than it was a lot of people got that Julia nobody nobody was stopping

Julius Randall and I mean look that's just been kind of something that Julius Randall's done

against the sons now ever since that he's been on the timbrewolves is he's eating the sons lunch

right and that's not just because he's a big dude it just like literally happens every single time

he's a walking mismatch yeah he's a walking mismatch especially with this team where it's like he's

a walking mismatch and then you also have Rudy Gobert and Nas Reed that you have to deal with which

again accentuates the son's problems when you go up against Boston and this happened twice now

with the mishkaida right but now Boston gets Jason Tatum back they could play a little bit bigger

with Jason Tatum you go back to Toronto right losing on the second night of a back to back that is

a really big team with Scotty Barnes and Brandon Hingler and Miyaka Pertle like these are also bad

matchups for the sons who have a inherently smaller roster again not to make excuses but this is

also a son's roster that's losing in my opinion they're starting for which is Dylan Brooks because

him and Roy so Neil kind of share those responsibilities and usually Dylan's going to be guarding

somebody who's a little bit bigger tonight he would have guarded Julius Randall and then you're

missing Mark Williams who's the second tallest guy in your roster other than the 19 year old rookie

who's played five years of organized basketball right so not only are you inherently not built to play

against bigger teams we saw that when you were healthier against the rockets earlier the season or

when you play the nuggets but you were also missing two of your guys that you have to match up against

bigger teams that being said on an individual execution standpoint do you guys want to know what

Colin Gillespie Jalen Green and Jordan Goodwin shot from the field tonight it was eight of 36

from the field between those three players you gotta make you gotta make some shots eight of 30

and that's the thing open shots free throws these are things that okay maybe you're going to get

out physical maybe you're going to give up some offensive rebounds right but missing your free

throws committing frustration fouls I'm looking at you Devon Booker like hitting open threes hitting

contested shots that the team is entrusting you in a position to hit like Colin Gillespie should not

be getting into the second half to be hitting a shot that's just not who Colin Gillespie has been

for the season and as a starter that's unacceptable Jalen Green should not be shooting St. Patrick's

Day numbers on St. Patrick's Day three is 17 and when all those things happen at once and

you're smaller all those things compile but does Jordan not have a button that he can press to say

tonight's going to be the night that nobody misses any shots or tonight's going to be the night

that Jordan Goodwin magically is six inches taller no but there's still a controllable part of this

that I feel like the suns didn't control tonight which is the energy and the effort and you saw

that from a Minnesota team that was looking to kick some serious ass because the suns had beaten

them two times out of the three they had already played this season this team the last three games

and especially the end of the Toronto and the Boston games and then pretty much third quarter on

here look like a team that did not understand what the assignment in front of them was and

what's actually on the line in terms of things now I understand shots can go cold those things

happen but there were laws and even even that edge that they've had and yeah you can say well

if Dylan Brooks was out there well we know Dylan Brooks can't be out there so the rest of these

guys have got a dig deeper and figure it out I'm angry I've been angry the last few post games

that doesn't mean I've lost the perspective that this team has been surprising this year and I'm

glad for that but I'm frustrated because they had a path in front of them and they did not take

advantage of it like they had it other times this season and that's where I get pissed off about it

is because they had everything that they wanted right there and they've gone one in three when

they've had that that is what is so damn frustrating about it and that's not just on or

Jordan ought that's not just on Jalen Green that's not on book shooting poorly tonight that's on

everybody as a whole on this roster there's a lot of frustration that's being vented that exact

22 it's not a coat that's a that's a fact Jordan Goodwin's been impactful at the four all season long

he was he had a choice we just watched that man guard victim Wimba Yama in two of the three games

that they played against the spurs this season and do so effectively and that's just one example

we've seen on guard a bunch of other guys we can't start saying the same things that we hail

highly as far as oh man this is outside the box thinking very creative way to get the most out of

your guys when it doesn't work on one night or even two or three nights in a row when you're looking

at 60s almost 70 something games that have been played already and one night or three nights it doesn't

work you can't say oh man why was you do that when that's literally what's been working and making

this team be as impactful as it is firmly as a seven seed in the western conference all season long

it's frustrating that they lost this game I think you could tell that in different ways the four

of us are frustrated obviously I'm not frustrated with the loss because that is what it is I just want

I so badly want for people to look at that appropriately don't just go playing a finger at people

and things look at the game the game is giving you all the answers is right there and it doesn't

take a nuanced eye to see that they lost their way in the second quarter in the third quarter

and they ultimately weren't able to have the execution level to write those wrongs in a moment

or finish the job well it's right there for you and to that point the disappointment is because

and I think that if you really break it down and unpack why we're overall disappointed with certain

things and even the certain people that we're pointing out or calling out or calling up

is because we know they're capable of doing it so I think when you get down to it we've seen Jordan

goo and be impactful as you mentioned we saw it tonight he had a he got scored about Julius

Ronald next possession steals a ball from him like we've seen all these guys we've seen this team play

undersized we've seen this team on a second and have a back-to-back when the odds are against him

in situations where they're shorthanded find ways to win so I think that when the hat when it

doesn't happen something we've seen them do time and time again listen we're 69 games at this season

we know who this team is at this point so now in these situations when it's a loss it's like well

this team could have done things differently that they're capable of it's not oh man this team

isn't this they can't do this they can't do that they wouldn't be thirty nine and thirty if they

couldn't do it but now the problem is okay why aren't they doing it why isn't it happening because

you have 13 games to fix it maybe don't have 13 games and move up into standings anymore but you

need to get it all together because if you're in the play internament playing against the clippers

or the warriors whoever it is in a game seven situation you've got to get all that stuff together

and that should be the conversation not the finger pointing all this stuff because this team is who

they are and they've shown more good than that at this point I disagreed the finger pointing side of

it because maize devil puts this very well in chat says this one's on Monty well that's always

we needed the laugh there we're going to continue to bet they're happy on the farm they didn't

need all that well done is better than well said and well done was not done tonight I mean they

were well done they were well done they were cooked they were cooked but we're not we're going to

realistically speaking the actual odds got a whole lot slimmer than the math the math ain't math

is not math that being said I I can feel it from not just our normal doomsday people in chat or

the normal doomsday people on Twitter where there are a lot of people who are kind of resigning and

being like this season is over and first of all if the suns don't get a top succeed doesn't

mean they're not going to make the playoffs doesn't mean they can't compete and doesn't mean

hopefully they're not going to be more fully healthy when they get there like and it's still

possible they get the succeed it's not probable it got a lot harder tonight I wouldn't put my

money on it which is probably a good thing um but you did put your money on the suns tonight thanks

for that sorry uh but it is it is still possible and I'm not saying that as a blind optimist I'm

saying that purely as somebody who's looking at the numbers the nuggets are probably going to win

tonight they're up 30 on Philly at halftime so that's another team your three games it's another

team you're going to be three games back from and again you still have your 69 games in so

not nice you got 13 games left Houston Minnesota Denver like you just have to hope that one of them

falls off the rails and while losing a Minnesota sucks they are going to be missing Anthony Edwards for

the next week and a half I just don't want people to automatically be like well seasons over but

this sucks let's move on to the offseason I think that's ridiculous thing is you have to take care

of your own house you have to figure out those things like stevens talking about that led to the

lost tonight that led to the fourth quarter meltdowns the two previous games and figure out leave

the other noise whoever's ahead of you whoever's behind you don't bad out none of that matters you

got to take care of your own house right now and whether you wind up in the sixth seed or you

stay in the seventh and you got to take on the clippers doesn't matter unless you get your own stuff

together and that's what they need to focus on and I know getting healthy is what we have to

look at but also that's going to pose its own problems because you've gone with these rotation

since Brooks has been out how do you start working on that like there's all sorts of things that

are still going to that they have to figure out internally and that's all that matters cannot

can this team figure out their stuff because if they can't do that then yeah in in theory the

season is over because you're not going to be able to beat a good clippers team that's been hot

and then you're going to at best be looking at okay see in in a series you're not going to be

okay see if you haven't figured out your stuff like it all starts with getting back to the basics

and understanding what's wrong inside is the calls coming from inside the house right now and

we talked about this before the game and saying look what constitutes making some changes some

lineup changes think a three game losing streak at the worst possible time decision could be what

it takes to them to look at things like okay let's tweak some things a little bit let's try to

change things now we mentioned today that the starters came out firing and they won the first quarter

in best quarter of the game and my last first quarters in the season but yeah by a lot of metrics

I think at 14 assists in the first quarter but if you're trying to look and find answers and not

necessarily saying there's something wrong with the starting lineup but what a change is starting

lineup would do to the rotation and making different people available and having that combination

lock of trying to find the right things to make things work to open unlock the lock to get that

going that whatever that five-man lineup is does that happen if you change the starting lineup those

are questions that you have to answer and I don't know if you wait now if you do it now he's

locked through in a row or this trip is ending like do that when you get back home and I know that

maybe this is an option right now but here's an answer for changing your starting lineup how about

adding Dylan Brooks and Mark Williams to it the team's gonna look a whole lot better when that happens

it again you can lose games right now and it'll suck and trust me I'm not happy about this game but

if Dylan Brooks and Mark Williams are on the court for the Suns going into a play in series or play

off play in game against anybody I like the Suns chances and that and that's not me being a

Homer that's me watching 69 games of competent basketball from this team but it to me it's

how soon can they get back because if you're going into the play in and they've only had one or

two games or say somebody doesn't like Mark doesn't have any game before then sure then I get worried

too because now you've got these guys that are trying to work their way back into you know

game shape into game readiness in in the highest leverage situation so I don't think I don't think

just getting those guys back on the court is going to change it the context of all of it is

going to matter as well and and boom saying they were losing before they got injured yeah but you

want to know who else was injured during the time before that Devon Boker was injured leading up

to the all star break in the beginning of the month of February and here here's also the thing

Stephen is that they might come back and somebody else might get injured this team has not been

fully healthy all year so again it's a lot of ifs and we've been saying that a lot this entire

season but if Dylan Brooks comes back that changes a lot if Mark Williams comes back that changes a

lot grace and downs available to play in the playing in gamer and a playoff series that changes a

lot plus the additions that you've had of Rocher Fleming and Hay would high Smith into rotation

you could see a sun's team that hits their best moment once you get closer to the play in or

the playoffs even though they still have a long way to go to get there and that is drag me off

on wrong that's when you want to be playing close to if not your outright best it's better to lose

three games now than at the end of April okay so the information that they're gathering and hopefully

can apply from the lessons learned in these losses hopefully over the next two and a half to three

weeks through the finish line is as important as just reacting in this present moment I think that

matters in terms of contextualizing everything I think Jordan ought biggest test of the entire year

is going to be one of those guys get back how do you manage the rotation how clean how do you put

this group in a position to succeed as quickly as possible that's where I think we're going to learn

more about Jordan not in that time not when he's dealing with a limited rotation on a tail end of

a back-to-back while he's trying to scramble against a team with side like I think when these

guys are back and figuring that out that's what we're going to learn a lot yeah that's the biggest

thing is is the runway word that we've used a lot and when it is at their back you don't want to

rush anybody back but you also hope you get them back with enough time to figure some things out

tweak with some things and who knows like again this is a very smart coaching staff contrary to what

some people might say they could be envisioning some things rotation-wise imagine if we had these

two guys available this is where they would go matter fact they probably I have a strong belief

that they are doing that they're thinking about okay well when Dylan and Mark are available this

is how these rotations are going to look if they were available because they have no other choice but

to think like that until they can't think like that anymore so I would imagine that they have to

hit the ground running pretty quickly and they're already factoring how they have to do that once those

guys are back riddle with the 199 superchats says any news on Brooks we've not gotten any news on him

yet but we did notice on the watch along and as we said this was last game two with Dylan he had

a different thing but and we saw a couple I guess that was four or five days ago now Dylan was

shooting around without without the protective bracer cast whatever it is on his hand pre-game and

choose around so I don't know we're getting closer and closer those re-evaluation dates but

those are floating too it's been two weeks since Mark Williams went down and was given a two to

three-week re-evaluation but Jordan not before the game talked about how Mark is still in a boot

and that how when somebody is still in a boot you have to expect a ramp up period when they get

out of the boot so that I would assume that Mark Williams is not close to coming back right

that's the one I have less you know less faith and because a big man of foot a stress reaction

that could lead to a fracture those are all things you don't screw with now Dylan Brooks broken

left hand you know had the surgery you know if it heals well enough I don't think that one's

going to be problematic but the foot that scares me I'm not holding my breath when it comes to

to Mark Williams saving the day for especially when he's got money at stake to like that's the other

part of it that he has to think about 2030 and not just this 2026 playoff run because this is his

livelihood his career but with Dylan I think you know he says his knuckle on his offhand and

there was the comedy kind of made passively on million dollars with the game but said yeah like two

three weeks like if he can push it to get back safely I would expect Dylan Brooks to be the guy

to push it to get back safely so I think that we'll probably hear some news about him in the next

couple can we just let him play with a cast is it allowed is he like a weapon out there like anybody

would do it like a db or just run anybody pop it off let's play all right by the way to boom

you know shouldn't you be having to salvage and scramble legs instead of your ice cream tonight

if you're such a phrasier fan anyway I just I and here's my thing with with fandom and especially

with the sun's fandom specifically like I'm not here to tell anybody how to root for the team

that they like I'm going to root for the team the way that I like to I just I can't imagine having

a season where the over under was set at 30 and a half everybody picked a terrible under and now

you're sitting here 39 and 30 March 17th understandably frustrated about some things which I am but

then completely saying I give up on the rest of the season there's no way they're going to do

thing like I will if it's to a fault I'll be hope I'll be hopeful to a fault but I still have hope

that we're going to see better basketball from this team coming up and I do believe that they

will respond especially when they are fully healthy they've had a lot of adversity here and maybe

the adversity kind of shines some light on just how far they can get in a play in possibly playoff

scenario but I refuse to go into the last month in a little bit of change of the season just throwing

my hands up miserable saying the season is over this team is done they the magic has run out let's

move on to the off season run it back next year I just I can't I can't I can't I can't do that myself

and to that point I was looking at the standings on NBA calm I see PS next to the sun's name

it's not for Pete Phoenix suns it's PS for postseason because they've clinched the postseason spot

and that's not the goal the expectations have changed as the seasons going on and I think that the

disappointment whether you want to admit it or not is because you expect things out of this team

because they've shown you something and at this point I was thinking about it and I was like man

you know it sucks that losing the night and it they had an opportunity in front of you that didn't

take advantage of but man it'd be way worse if we were sitting you're talking about a loss to

the trouble lasers like man we can't get to ten anymore we gotta focus on the off season we're

not even gonna make the play in tournament we're like upset right now that this team squatted an

opportunity to stay in the top six playoff race there's still so much to play for whether it's

getting grounding in shape so you at your best form when you're facing the clippers or warriors

in a seven eight game whether it's hoping that somebody ahead of you stumbles and you could take

advantage of it it's not game 81 you're not fighting for the ten seed you are still in it

even though your three games back yesterday today was a massive blow toward that but regardless

of if it's seven or six what I said in that order it's still a lot to point it out don't get

also what it doesn't do anything differently to me I think the tough thing is we know how how

fleeting a special season yeah and opportunity can be and we've seen it slip through our hands

and Phoenix before I I keep going back to that 48 one season you missed a playoffs by one game

that's back before the play in but then you have eight years after that of of misery that you didn't

you didn't complete the job then you overtinkered in that following off season the whole thing blew up

like when there's opportunity in front of you gotta take advantage of it I think that's again

that's where my frustration comes into play because there is something special here we've seen it

this group can be very special and Jordan ought has coached in a special way throughout this season

just just don't waste it and and that doesn't mean if you don't get six it's a waste but if you

don't go out and play Sun's basketball down the stretch you don't play Sun's basketball in the

play-in that's a disappoint to your to your point that's what he that not he but the Sun's as a

team you're not asking them to do anything different than they haven't shown to be capable of

yeah at multiple documentable standing shift in moments throughout the first two-thirds of the

regular season now obviously they were in a different space at those certain pockets especially

health wise that they're just not in that this present moment but again even to that point

excuses have never been something that this team has made for themselves nor have they shown

for it to be something that gets in the way of them getting to what their goal is so it's just

about them finding ways to answer again the questions that they're being tasked with answering

and time on task as a team at this present moment the last three games

haven't had it not thoroughly enough they've had it in pockets but a pocket is not going

it's not going to be what gets you a win in a playoffs let alone at the end of the regular season

we're gonna hit a break here but I'll just say this as well this ends up being like the the

magic in a bottle season then eight years of misery afterwards I'm gonna make sure I enjoy

this season a whole lot more honestly we should I mean having the expectations there's nothing

wrong with that and expecting the standard they set from themselves is nothing wrong with that

but we should enjoy anything that that's enjoyable the rest of the way because you just don't know

what what's gonna happen in the future now we have confidence in the future this team we're not

here to talk about the future right now we're here to talk about this game sons timbre will

jaylin's first playoff series against the golden state warriors and there was a there was a point

where just some kind of watching that series i'm like okay we know jaylin can go he can detonate

for 20 points in a quarter you know he can detonate for 30 in a game you know he can detonate for 40

in a game but for for shop makers and he is a prolific shop maker which gives him the credence for

the confidence yes there is a point where you have to have a little bit of discernment on

i can make this shop but is this shop that i should take at this present moment or is there a

be extremely inconsistent and when that happens you need to have guys like calling Gillespie like

Royce O'Neill like guys on the bench that step up and pick up some of that slack for your teammate

tonight and over the last three games they have not had anybody not named Devon Booker

and in those previous games jaylin green that have really stepped into that

also agadaro was the second highest scored tonight if i get told that the sun's warm by 20

if you tell me yeah or or they lost by a hell of a lot you know like there's there there's no

feeling between there so that's that's the problem here again you have to get back to what you've

done well and that is having multiple scorers yeah who pick up the load this has not been a team

predicated on just two guys absolutely this has been a team and they have not done that and they did

not do that tonight and that's where if you have a guy that's inconsistent it costs you even more

when you don't have the other guys are gonna step up not to pile on jaylin too much but just

actually what we saw tonight he made two of his first three shots so based on that math that means

he missed 13 of his last 14 shots so we were here commenting about how did it start there and

that's what we learned out there um but we talked about how good of a start he got and he had been

that guy who has been the starter kind of we used the pitching analogy we used the boscanology

and then book kind of comes in and takes over once jaylin kind of gets his first but if remember

in this game book immediately took over and i think we're still seeing them learn how to flow

off of one another and honestly it's not books fault but i think that we saw jaylin maybe take

a step back and not necessarily know those spots to pick as you were mentioned Steven to where he's

pressing a little bit because it didn't necessarily feel like it was within the flow of what he wanted

to get but he felt like i need to keep doing this i need to hold my own while book is doing his as

well so we can be that one two punch instead of maybe hey like maybe books starting tonight maybe

second half his mind and i think that when jaylin kept pressing a little bit it got to point where

he was not at rhythm anymore and then we saw book as people were saying forcing it a little bit

and he did some of those three point attempts that he took weren't within the flow of the offense

a lot of those shots kind of seemed like he didn't trust anybody else to do it and he pulled out

his do it yourself kit on a lot of those plays so i think the offensive flow between those two

guys obviously is evidenced by their numbers and their efficiency was not where it wasn't these

last few games i think it all goes back to how the game started from both of them and that's

why i think you brought up earlier where does Dylan Brooks fit in all this right like what is

Jordan i do well Dylan Brooks i think takes a lot of pressure off of devin book or off of jaylin

green where nobody else's shot is falling right those two guys are like okay i have to go into hero

modes specifically jaylin with a shot selection if you have Dylan Brooks there it might a east

things out a little bit more and make jaylin not feel like he has to be the guy at certain times

just when he's hot and be it's also somebody that jaylin's played a lot of basketball with too

oh yeah no no i was i was talking more about odd having to figure out where the receivers the

he would hide sure i was saying like when yeah figure Dylan Brooks back in that might his biggest

impact because i don't think you've said this but a lot of people said well who's going to take

the shots it's jaylin it's book and it's Dylan and Dylan has been you know one of the top options

for the sun's all season well i think a night like tonight you say okay jaylin doesn't have

it going we have another guy that can go and create a shot and can operate way more effectively

in the mid-range than jaylin green has been operating at any time this season even when he was on

well and then when you have gracing out there on the court it's another guy i mean for people

saying jordnott didn't adjust he saw jaylin green was struggling only played 27 minutes he turned

to jordan good one because he knows good one was going to bring the defense got he got the rebounds

as well so there's an adjustment there too but i agree wholeheartedly that Dylan Brooks

helps ease some of that burden when jaylin's inconsistent the problem is Dylan can be inconsistent

himself so you got to start to hope when one guy's inconsistent the other guy isn't and that pick

up the slack for each other and i'd be remiss if i didn't say that one of those misses from jaylin

was maybe the easier shot yeah why don't we all year you just mid-range it was way

more open than he expected to be so it's not even a rhythm thing that's just to and maybe if

you thought i'm gonna go through it changes what happens for him in the second half so

a lot of important things to when you figure out the context of why things were the way they were

to the to the offense point that feels like the side of the ball we're having conversations about

right now 14 assists in the first quarter they finished with 25 you do the math on how many assists

they had over the final three not enough yes it's cute to just say yes if they get to 26 they win

they're 23 when they get there yes but the manner in which that comes about matters as much as

anything so you can just look at the box going to say oh they must have played okay they had 25

assists that's not quite how the numbers work because usually tell a story and if a lump sum of

that 25 came in the first 12 minutes of the game that tells the story on how the offense naturally

fell off a cliff we talk about how volume of passes and assists created typically as an indicator

of the levels their offense and we see the way that the assists descended over the game that

entails how those scored dude as well yeah it's like looking at the honey move phase of a relationship

and assuming that the entire thing is going to be like that and that's just not the way it is

typically commit to doing that and what their pickup points per feet looks like the other part

of that is when you have teams especially in a modern NBA they want to play through their centers

to alleviate pressure but also get their guards and wings dynamic touches you can't just free

flowingly allow them to get to those things so your bigs have to be comfortable defending away

from the basket you talk about also doing that a lot with switches he also does that a ton with

when guys are trying to get into dribble handoffs sometimes it isn't it isn't even the guard that's

blowing up dribble handoff sometimes it's just the pressure that osos applying because

some bays can dribble most bays don't like to dribble under pressure and you talk about the

heating them up aspect of it you can do that in those pockets and osos has been really good with those

he's also been really good with some of the switches around the basket they call them veerback switches

someone gets beat on the perimeter osos already in position so they peel off from each other it's

a different iteration of a peel of switch but it's called a veerback the guard veers back into osos

matchup also steps up to his matchup and in the last one this playmaking continues to stand out

the four assists is awesome I think the feel on some of the decisions that he was making continues

to stand out he had a no look pass I can't remember who it went to knock down a corner three and

they got other moments where he was just finding pockets to get downhill a really good game for him

this is the type of things that he can kind of replicate when he's in the role that he's supposed

open space so damn well those moments of playing with force that we talked about oftentimes I think

about the the dunks he had being in the right spots to finish around the rim and that's a great

responding to that resistance before a team that's shown to always meet resistance with

forms of it in their own I imagine they're going to figure it out and kick the door down soon

but they just having in this recent stretch and it's fair to say that they haven't been up to

up to par recently because they surely haven't but to say that that's on the coaching I don't

the record in those games and because I think he does not get a lot of help over the years and

that's that's a problem because Devon Booker can't single handedly get you these wins because he

can't score 125 points I yo and let everybody else play defense he needs people to step up around him

in those situations too but man he is an unbelievable score and being in in lists like that or when

we see him with MJ and other guys in lists he's special as much as some people don't want to

believe it as much as some people want to write it off you spent a decade trying to find a guy

like Devon Booker you found him and he's doing special things for your franchise over the last 10 years

I would like to see what the record is in the 2020 2021 season to now in those games where he does

that more than seasons prior that that's fair yes any final thoughts gentlemen on a tough loss

got a day off tomorrow from suns games and then back Thursday before a final game of the road trip

gotta get 500 on this road trip that makes Thursday a must win or context purposes

I mentioned they needed to I wanted to look at that I felt like 42 was more than doable and given

how we've seen some of these games go that proves to be true but that's not where the record is

right now they're now one game below 500 going into the final game of this six game road trip

you can lick your wounds a little bit more comfortably if you leave it at 500 versus going

back home having lost four of six on the road look if this team responds the way that we've

seen them multiple times this season if they are if they can find what they've been this year they

go out and they surprise and beat the spurs on Thursday because that's what this team has done

all year so I'm not writing them off I think they've made this a much more difficult road to try

to get to that six seed but I I can see a path where they beat the spurs on them

and they said it before the physicality bothers them at times the spurs have admitted that I'm

Victor O'Mingama at least admitted that with reference to the pistons and people have been bringing

the physical to you now can you get back to that way and bring that to them you've done it before

this season that's why you've beaten them a couple times but all I want to say was nothing we

haven't said already tonight was the night for scoreboard watching was very prevalent because

literally the scoreboard that you were watching in the game was relevant to that but this point now

as we said before control what you can control go out there and win your games the chips are going to

fall where they may around you but but these last 13 games you got to just go in and control what

you can get some wins and find yourself and that and that's all that you can do and eat love

pray in mind say go find yourself what you got to do right yeah it's a soul searching as a well-known

philosopher once said uh-oh everything you want is on the other side of hard oh

and that is exactly where the Phoenix Suns find themselves that was always the worst one of all of them

they was always the worst as a wise man you're not saying I got a four letter word before now

that was great but I am not gonna lie this is one of I would say the lowest points I feel like we've

of the season so far simply because of the magnitude of this loss the the reality of the end of

the season coming up and and kind of the expectations that have been put on this team that being said

there is a month of basketball still have to be played before they even get into playing a lock

and happen and lock and change they should get Dylan Brooks back hopefully they get Mark Williams back

hopefully this team can have somewhat of a healthy end to the season and we will be sitting
