Presidents Cup Picks, Biggest Snubs, and Scottie Scheffler’s Ridiculous Season
About this episode
The Presidents Cup captain’s picks are officially in, and the debates started immediately.
Dan and the crew break down Jackson Koivun making Team USA, why his match-play background makes the pick so interesting, and which players have the strongest case for being left out. Ben Griffin becomes the biggest snub debate, while Jason Day’s injury situation and Geoff Ogilvy’s familiarity with Medinah add even more intrigue to the final rosters.
The show also gets into Scottie Scheffler’s Tour Championship win, how much Ted Scott could be earning as his caddie, Scottie’s massive career earnings, Viktor Hovland trying to hold him off, Joe Dean’s comeback at the British Masters, and the rarest score in golf, the condor.

Welcome back to the Dan Evans show for some breaking news of very special edition of the show. We have the president's cup, captain's picks, just come out and we got a way in on it and talk about everything that is important and that you must know about what's happening. Coming up right here at Medina next month, boys. Back you up. A little bit of controversy. A couple, couple picks that I think we all saw coming. Yes. And then maybe a pick that a lot of people might be questioning. I am one that people are very excited about your questioning. I'm not. I think it is the most logical pick that the United States of America could have made. I mean, you're picking a guy who has literally not been alive. Alive, alive, alive to see the US lose a president. We're talking about Jackson Coivan, the guy who essentially turned pro like, I don't know, a couple minutes ago. Yeah. I mean, it feels like, yeah, definitely. But in that brief little window has locked in a win on the PGA tour.
Yeah. And near the top of the list of the fastest wins from getting your pro card to taking a win. Yeah. Jackson Coivan is on the president's cup team. Yes. And I, I just think it feels right. I mean, if we look a lot, we look back at his, his college career and what brought him here and brought him to this very moment. And then many of his moments of dominance all throughout his career were in match play format. Yeah. And I mean, this guy is securing multiple national titles for Auburn. We're talking Walker Cup victories. The guy's done it. He's been, he's been in the rooms, if you will. Yeah. And he showed up time after time. And quite frankly, I mean, I know it's a tough comparison. But technically speaking, Jackson Coivan's match play record looks better than Scotties. Yeah. I mean, they're different environments. For sure. You know, we're talking like Ryder Cup's first Walker cups. Yes. And you know, whether you're a Ryder or a Walker. Yeah. Or like, yeah, we're talking president's cup versus college NCAA championship.
But it's a little different. But either way, I mean, you take a look back and I think it was like 2023. Coivan is facing the number one amateur in the world, Miles Russell. Yeah. And then he's going down to the end of this entire semi final series. They go into extra innings. They're playing. I think they go up to 20 holes. Wow. And finally, he sinks a birdie putt against the number one amateur in the world. The entire teams are surrounding the green. I mean, for him, the pressure doesn't get any bigger. So you're going to compare other moments that are going to have more people and might be considered more pressure. In that moment, there is no greater pressure for him. Right. So he's going to be able to step up against the number one player in his freshman year. And he's still probably in team golf mode. He's got to be. He hasn't been out of school for that long. Do you think if he starts kind of maybe feel a little lot of sorts. He digs deep in the bag for the Auburn hat. Yeah, maybe. You know, you see him like,
that's a good point. You make about pressure because yes, it's different pressures being in the NCAA championships. It's the Ryder cup and the president's cup. That's what he does. I mean, you know, you know, like, yeah, for you in that moment, it feels like the most pressure you can ever have. Like you're not like, well, I'm standing over this pub, but at least I'm not in the Ryder cup. Yeah. Like my hands will be shaking more. Yeah. Like the sun, you know what I would love to see? JT and Koyven just talking shit on that golf. Oh, yeah. I bet you the churps would be so top tier. I feel like there's no one that matches vibe. I think he has to be with JT. Yeah. Yeah, that being good pairing. I do feel like, I don't know, there's some, a little bit of inner workings going on here between Team USA and Team Int. Yeah. And I think this needs to be looked into a little further, maybe investigated. Talk to me. Captain Ogleby was on the team, his design firm, redesigned Medina. Yeah. And there has not been, you know, I mean,
since we look at either, you wanna call them out down of a Dina or the Miracle of Medina, depending on who you were rooting for that year, it would be a meltdown for us. It'd be, you know, becoming an incredible loss for you. Are you act around Router, Cup Time? I don't know. Easy. It's more about Tony. That we come back to a course that is quite literally was blueprinted in his offices. Yeah. That seems odd. Yeah, it's a little, it's a little home teamy for him. It is. Now, here's what I also get. If you guys haven't secured a win in the 20th century, yeah, like maybe they start looking for edges. Yeah. No, I agree. I mean, even if the simple fact that if we make a list of all of the top 10 players in the world that the team USA has, and all of the top 10 players in the world that team int has, the US side would list seven. Yeah. The international side would be blank. Yeah. Well, JR, you have never seen a, a, a, or a president cup loss.
No, I'm not going to be alive for one. I was alive for two weeks. Wow. I saw it. But how tough was that kind of getting started in life first couple weeks out? And then you've got to have that looming over your head for the next couple of years. I think that's why my life sucks ass. Yeah, it's just it's off to such a terrible start. It started there and just, you know, there's, it started downhill and then just kept going from the bottom. Now we're still at the bottom. Yeah. Well, at that point, like being born would have been the top. Yeah. And it's just been down like you peaked. Yeah. I really peaked out the womb. Yeah. And there literally in there. I actually, I wasn't a C section. I wasn't there, but in the either way, thank you. Yeah. So I don't know. Maybe the advantage of being the course designing firm helps balance out the fast. You don't have a single player in the top 10. Yeah, probably. And I'm correct me from wrong here. It's always played in the US, right? No, we go back and forth. Last presence couple out. We in Canada. Oh, okay. Yeah, never mind. It's not about to say if it is always in the US,
it's kind of a built-in advantage. Also a bit of of a redemption story for Nick Taylor. Obviously, Canadian golfer, obviously tournaments come into his home country. And he's left off the list last go around. Guys got to sit out. He's literally like, you know, in his neighbor's backyard. Yeah. Essentially. Because Canada's not even that big anyway. This go around. He was picked. Is in now. It's not, you know, on his home court. Yeah. But soon will be his captain literally made the place. Yeah. Yeah. It's got to help. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, do you how big of an advantage is that the coach knows the place that well? Is it that big of an advantage? Or probably maybe not really. You still got to hit shots. The guy still got to hit shots, but at the same time, like, you know, you know, we talked on the full-length show, which will air after or before the side of no idea. Breaking news. I don't know when things get posted anymore.
But we had talked about, um, wait, what do we talk about? I got lost. I did. We talked about something really important. The time more. I am. See, it's because the show hasn't happened yet. Yeah. Yes, but it has all the same time. Um, we talked about having a caddy who knows the course. Well, versus not. Yep. That's an advantage. Yeah. Right? I mean, the guys give me a listen. We designed a false front there and it's, it's, it's purposeful in a way that if you don't have spin on it at this amount to get to there, then you, but you think, Scotty can't figure that out in four minutes. Right. No, but it's a false front. Like, there's no secret and you can see it from here. Yeah, it's just one step that they don't have to do. It's true. But like, still, like, it also depends, like, how big is the gap between the teams then? Like, is it big enough where that doesn't matter? Like, if I had a caddy that knew the entire course and Scotty didn't have a caddy, he would still kick my ass. I feel like he's that much better than me. Is he that much, is the US team that much better than team int that it's not going to matter? I as a, as a, as a fan and a patriot to this country, I would like to think that, that
there's nothing that can help them. And as a member of team USA's Patreon, I agree. Yeah. Thank you. I contribute every paycheck. Yeah. I'm so confident that we're going to win that you could put me on the team. Wow. Yeah. But here, here's what would be key. We put you on the team and then you back injury out on Sunday and then to do the envelope thing. I agree. No. Christian, I'm sorry. Which by the way, it was a very specific point made by Captain Oglevy of team int on the non-selection of Jason De. Yeah. Jason De was just below the auto picks. And on paper, he would essentially be an auto captains pick. But he's been struggling with injury and Oglevy specifically said, I don't want to risk running into a situation like we had a bath page where Hovelin had a withdrawal going into the last day and then we had to go into the whole envelope rule and he goes, I just don't want to go into this with that as a potential chance. Yeah. And which I, so some people think that that's an advantage. Some people don't, whatever. He doesn't want that card to even be a potential conversation in this.
Yeah. Cause that's the same thing with JJ spawn too. JJ spot. Take them both. Let them both back out on Sunday. JJ spawn. Yeah. That should be the tiebreaker. If we tie, it's going to be JJ very strong. Yeah, you wheel out your best injury. Yeah. Wheel him out. Yeah. I tell you, who has to be injured internally is Ben Griffith. Yeah. Oh, yeah. They did a bogus. Well, and even looking at like going into the BMW, he was at the number five position and was an auto. Yeah. He didn't play wonderfully, fell to the eighth position, putting him just outside the auto. And then he was not selected. Like, I thought he was a lock. Like we made that post a rank and post on Instagram. Yeah. And when I was writing down names, I'm like, all for these guys should be locks. Yeah. I mean, here's the question. Who do you take off for them? The guy who is the last person I got picked. That was Koyvin. No, no, not Koyvin. Richmond. Yeah. You take off the second to last guy. Yeah. I mean, what has Ben Griffith won this year?
Take a Richmond's won the Genesis. He's had a Scotty year where he's still he's been up up up up up up on the leaderboard. He hasn't caught a win. You got to get a win though. He's got a Tommy years when he's had unfortunately. Wow. I mean, I don't know. I think Richmond's out of pretty good year too. And you win a SIGGY. Yeah. Like, maybe that is that. And that's maybe a debate for later, but is that the SIGGY? Well, if we take a look at some of the other left out names. Yeah. So, of course, JJ spawned, but we're in an injury situation, so we can't kind of hold that against him. Oxey wanted Bay Hill, World No. 33, 24 years old. Maverick McNeely, two very consistent years, no wins. Ryan Gerard. That's an odd one to me. Yeah, that one is. That's the fact that he was just in the final group at the tour championship. I mean, you know, like that's like the top of the heap. I know. Now, of course, once again, Scottie came through and beat everyone.
Yes. Yeah. We can't hold that against the guy. It's hard to, when we go through these names though, it's like, I just don't know who I'm taking out for these guys. Like, yeah, I'm sure that Ryan Gerard deserves it. There's probably a ton of guys who deserve it. Yeah. Only six get picked. Right. Like, I'm not offloading JT. Yeah. Exactly. He made the team right? Yeah. I mean, can't lay was dominant at the last. Yeah. Rider Cup. I mean, the automatic picks are kind of like the cast of Happy Gilmore too. You know, no, Bryce and obviously, but Shnettaker talked about the of all of the previous captains he had spoke with and a lot of these guys do this. They call around and get advice and just try, like, you know, what do I need to know? Yeah. He said the common thread through all of them when it comes to captains picks is trust your gut. And he said, multiple past captains kept telling him that he's like, trust your gut because you're building the team that you have to feel confident and not like man, everyone's going to be so mad if I don't pick this guy. I have to pick him. Yeah. Then, you know, how does that make you feel in terms of like the ultimate leadership role going into this?
It has to be guys that you're like, I put you here. I'm backing you. I'm all in on this. And let's go win for the 75th time in a row. Now, two questions to that. Now, when do you think he makes his decisions? And how long do you think he had Coivan in the back of his head to pick him when he was still in college, when he knew he was coming up when he first started playing after he won? Here's a very, very interesting point. I, in the press, I didn't give an exact amount of time, but prior to this announcement, Schneiderker went out and played around with Coivan. They went and played some cash golf. We had to know each other. Do we vibe? Do we connect? And Schneiderker said that after that round, he looked at Coivan and said, I don't think my game has ever in my career been as dialed as you are right now. What a compliment. What a compliment. You guys got what? 10 wins.
Yeah. You know what I mean? Like he's had a hell of a grue. He himself is a writer cup player. 40 million. 40 million dollars in career earnings. And looks at this 21 year old kid who's been a pro for six minutes and says, I don't know that my game has ever been as good as yours is right now. I worry. I'm going to keep saying I worry about the pressure with the hype, but I mean, I believe it. Yeah. I believe it. I mean, some people are built different than I. Yeah. Like I crumble when I'm playing through a group of four. Yeah. You know what I mean? I've got to hit like one decent T shot in front of guys I've never met. That's all you have to do. That's all I got one time. Just give it to me one time. And I'm shaking. Yeah. Meanwhile, this kid's knocking down number one player is in the world. Yeah. Including the number one player in the world. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Like quite honestly. And here's another kind of missed point. I think, you know, a side topic, but on topic that we were talking about Scottie Schaffler
in terms of player of the year and it went back and forth and Windham Clark. The 3M had, Koivin not gone pro three weeks prior. Scottie won again. Yeah. He beat all the same guys again. Except this child phenom comes out and beats the number one player in the universe by three strokes. Who beat everyone else in the field like he always does. Yeah. And that's why he's the tournament champion. That's exactly why it's the tour champion and the player of the year. And if only we had something of us talking about it for the next 25 minutes. Hi. Well, over to that. What is up everybody and welcome back to the Dan Evans show right here on the one and only sports illustrated. We are celebrating with our very good friend golfer and number one player in the world. Scottie Schaffler. Yep. Oh, yes, for sure. I feel like as members of the Schaffler team, we won. We did it.
Yeah, we did. And there's no. It's great because we loved the debate. Now we can no longer debate about player of the year. It's so true. Case closed. When does it actually get voted up? I think this week. It's good. Yeah. I think so. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. By the way, it's a great watch. Yeah. It's solid. You know, nothing crazy. Scott's not going to come out with some, you know, over the top. I do have a watch question real fast. It's all stems. So green is that like the signification of a Rolex? No. No. No. It's a Rolex. However, golfers do tend to like green on their Rolex. Yes. Okay. What do we have here? I don't know. What do we have? Like a date just Daytona Daytona. Daytona on the which bracelet is that? How much that watch is? All right. Whenever it is that you find it, my guess is. Yeah. Well, the random game show. 16K 16K. 16K. I'm going to say. Yeah. I'm going to say 14. All right.
14K. I'm going to put us at 20 plus. Wow. Right. Because for all we know that that green ring is a $20,000 difference. Right. Quite literally. Josh, do you have a guess for the watch price? I'm thinking 35. All right. Submariner. I think it sounds about right. Submariner. Do you guys have any of those Submariners? Yes. I'll tell you. What's it? Here's what I'll tell you. Regardless of what that watch cost, Scotty can afford to buy a couple to treat more. Yeah. I would say so with his 10 million he won from this and in addition to his other 120 million he's one and golf. Did you also hear he started picking up a drinking habit after this? I did. There was an open bar after he won the tournament after he signed the scorecard but before the trophy presentation. So Scotty happened upon and all you can drink type situation and he had himself a beer. Guys, I'm genuinely worried that he's going down the wrong path. I really do.
Well, we see it so often. We see you know guys get to the top of their game and then it spirals. Oh my god. Yeah. It starts with a beer. And before you know it, you're scooping them out of the gutter. Yeah. Exactly. You know what I mean? Like to be fair, $130 million could buy a lot of beer. A lot of beer. So maybe he'll be all right. I also love that he mentioned, I think of the presser that his wife as he calls a lot on your mayor. There. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And his manager were both like, whoa. Scotty has a beer. You think it was one of those like funny like woes. Yeah. And also, I'm willing to bet it wasn't just like a core's light. No, you think it was like an IPA. Yeah. Maybe like an amber or a Guinness. And he was taking like a like a big frothy sip from it. I will say as somebody who like only drinks casually and doesn't drink that much at all, I sometimes my friends will do the same thing to me when they'll see me with the beer on the back. Oh, the cruise. Oh. Yeah. I get the opposite.
Oh, you're not drinking. No, I'm drinking. Look, he's having a water. What's the same thing? It's like, oh, a beer. Yeah. Opposite context. Yeah. 130 million bucks. That's what Scotty has has raked in here in the PGA tour. Yeah, that's pretty indecent. Oh, it's all I got to say is Scotty, hopefully invested wisely. Yeah. And that's only tour winnings too. That's not even like it's like all on a debit card. Yeah. Checking. Like none of us invested. Yeah. All right. So I have some answers. How much should he win for winning this? 10 million. All right. So it's funny because the answer that I that came up. So it is a ceramic basil. It's the sub-mariner quote Hulk reference. Oh, yeah. So it is a summary. I saw that on Vukum once. There you go. Right. I'm like I flip. Yeah. I had fast flips as I was. What he calls it. Whatever. So it's roughly 18 to 25. So okay. With my 20 guests hit that. So it's funny because he is awarded 10 million dollars for winning while wearing a $20,000
watch. Yeah. I'm not going to get a cheap watch. Scotty. Like, like, you know, coming from this side of holding that trophy, that watch is a lot of money. Like, I would hope someday that I could achieve a place in life where I could be wearing that watch casually. For him, it is like the round off change on that check. Yes. I mean, it's a hundred thought. If you're making a hundred thousand a year, it's like wearing a $200 watch. Yeah. Yeah. Like, I don't know if he's just that winning. I don't know if he's picking that watch up off the ground if he drops it. There's not time. It's not worth it. I mean, it's still $20,000. Now everybody's still picking that watch up. Now, I'm thinking like him with all this money and stuff and his kids are finally getting older and getting into things. Do you think he'll be the type of dad that like buys everything like if his son's into like WWE, for example, he gets all the wrestling figures and all that stuff. Like, or do you think he's going to be like, well, you got to save up using that example or you like, imagine Scotty as your dad. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Call it. Hey, wait, call him daddy. Oh, no. He's not about to break his clothes. I don't consider that. He was a true late bloomer because even in college, you hear like Bryce and you used to say like he wasn't like the best. Right. Like he was just a late bloomer. They caught fire. And now you can't put that fire out. No, no. I think it also helps because it's a lot less pressure on him as a golfer. Like look at Jackson Coivan, for example. Yeah. He completely skipped corn fairy. He's already winning PGA tour events, but he has a men's pressure. Yeah. He's just a child phenom. Where Scotty doesn't have that. You know, well, it's just a gigantic winner. Good old Ted Scott. Oh, my God. I love this. So, you know, on average, generally speaking, tour players follow a rule called the 5, 7, 10. They make the cut. They're getting 5%. If it's a top 10 finish, they're going to be getting 7%. If it's a win, they usually get 10%. So just going back over Scotty's year, Ted Scott is right around the four million
mark. And a lot of times these players do let them participate in some of those additional bonuses. So Ted Scott could be landing around the 5 million mark grand total for just this year, which I love this part would put him into the top 40 money earners of the PGA tour. And that's so far. Yes. Would you guys rather be Ted Scott or like a mid PGA tour player like Bud Coney? I would take the Ted Scott role because far less pressure and far more longevity. Yeah. And then he's on the bag win and masters with bubble Watson. And then he's on the bag win and masters with Scotty. Yeah. I mean, like who was other than, you know, Tiger, but winning masters in that long of a window, but yet he gets to be on the bag for that long of a window. Yep. You also don't have to deal with like, I mean, I guess Bud Coney probably isn't getting recognized in public either, but I was going to say you don't have to deal with that. Are all the Tigers masters wins with different caddies? Or is there one of them with two? No, I think. Who's in the Australian dude? What's his face?
Like I thought he was on for a couple Stevie. Joe Likava. Yep. Who we saw at a bar in some city. Yeah, he was watching Terry's Rucker up against the wall. Yes, yes, yes, he was. So what? Not like seeing Joe Likava the wild. Sorry, God, Rich. What kind of caddy do we think Ted Scott is? Is he like just a chill vibes guy or is he the, the, the, okay, we have 13.2 degrees of loft with eight mile hour wind. But that you need to make sure you're hitting a 82% swing strategy. The voice was necessary. Yeah, there was a moment from, I forgot which whole scatty bogeyed a hole on Sunday. And it kind of says, you know, talked to us about that moment and whatever. And he was talking about how Ted Scott sort of helped him stay kind of focused in his lane. And he made it. There was this quote where he was like he does a whole lot more than just carry around clubs. Yeah. And so that told us nothing, but also told us something that, you know, Scotty appreciates
him for far more than dragging around his stuff. Yeah. And the type of guy Scottie is or that he portrays, I bet you Ted Scott's more like a brother than him than anything. Do you guys follow Ted Scott at all in any socials? One of the big things he does, I think he's a, you know, a big faith based guy, you know, whatever. And he does Sunday morning servants. And it's a little post he does on social. And it's just like a cool word of inspiration. Something like that. It's just Ted Scott Sunday morning sermon. And the thing I had thought about is I'm like, man, like I wonder if like some of these mornings he's got to get up and do these at like 4 a.m. I'm like, oh, never mind. No, Scotty's always on like the featured group. He doesn't have to be there to like 11 to a clock T time. Yeah, he's just hanging out doing his social posts on that note about the analytical caddy versus the vibes. Would you guys rather have a caddy that's 10 out of 10 knows everything about every course every shot you're going to hit, but he's like five vibes or like five out of 10 knows everything about the courts that you're playing at, but he's 10 out of 10 vibes. I feel like I would take 15 out of 10 vibes and the guy doesn't even know where we are.
That's kind of what I'm getting. Yeah, that's kind of what I'm getting that because like dude, who cares if he's giving you great reads if you're like so annoyed at a moment, it's going to mess you up. But wait a second. We go from five to being so annoyed. Like, I don't feel like a five vibe is a so annoyed. Okay. Let me re-section the hypothetical. Okay. I see flaws in this idea you just created. Yeah, because I'm like, for me, I want to take the most technical guy in the world. I want to know what club want to do it because I'm terrible at reading. Okay. So like, I want somebody who's going to be able to tell me you need to swing this club at a 92% and it's like, okay, fine. What if he has no vibes and you don't do it and he's just like, plus. Yeah, no, that was so tough. What if you're really good at reading puts like I am? As soon as you hit it, he's like, or not. Okay. All right, let's re-structure the 10 out of 10 skill, zero out of 10 vibes or zero out of 10 skill. So it's all on you, but 10 out of 10 vibes. Yeah. Yeah, I'm going vibes. I'm going vibes. I think we want vibes too. Like, you can't have a downer on the back. Yeah, yeah.
I might have told the story at one point in the past, but when I was playing Interval in Hills last year, I was assigned to Catti from the course. And there was this moment that has stuck out to me in like, Catti history for me. And I was struggling a little bit. It was like April round, you know, it was one of my early rounds in the year playing a course I've never played, you know, grain, grass, the whole thing. And I was struggling with some of my wedge shots a couple times, like, you know, it digs in before then just the ball doesn't even get to the green and you're like doing it again. Now there was a point where I was in a little bit longer grass and just off the fairway. And I've got a club out and I'm getting ready to take a swing. And he was like, well, real quick, real quick. It's like before you hit, he goes, what club, what club you hit? And I was like, I don't know, 54 degree. He was like, what distance is that usually for you? I'm like, it's about a hundred yard club. He goes, okay, cool. He goes, we're at about 65 yards right now. He goes, so that means you're going to be taking sort of a feel swing here. He goes, so you're going to be decaling or taking less. He goes, what's your next wedge up?
I'm like, well, from there, I've got a 58. And he's like, what distance is that club at a full swing? And he's like, I'm like, I don't know, right around 80 yards or something like that. I don't remember. And he goes, okay, so we're hitting a 65 yard shot out of a little bit of length. I feel like you're going to be closer to a full swing where you can swing with authority and you can swing through that ball in this long grass with that club as opposed to over here where you're going to be taking more of like a 65% something like that where you might get eight up again like you have on a couple other holes. What do you think? And I'm like, that's a really good point. He goes, okay, grab that 58 step up to the ball and swing confident. That's it. We've done all the thinking you just, your job is a swing confident. And I was like, technical to the vibes. Yeah. And I was just like, oh my, like I, I just, I had such a cool feeling. Like we, we process this. And so now I also took away from that a different way to process like wedge shots in certain scenarios. Like so I have like a lasting tool, but also in that moment was just given just such like
a confident vibe. And I hit it up on the green. Like imagine if you were lining up with your 52 and he was like, you're like, I'm going to hit that. Right. Yeah. We're doing this again. I'm probably at 58, but do whatever you want. Here's a good update to the game. It's going to be like player creator. So you get 12 points to spend. Right. So you can go 10 on vibes and then, but now you're out of four for our two on, on technical. Yeah. Like I'm not going to waste many points on walking speed. Yeah. Keep that low. Yeah. But if you just, if you just, you had 12 points to spend on vibes and or technical on a 10 scale, seven vibes, five technical. I think, I think I might be eight vibes for technical. Yeah. I'm a more of vibes. I think, I think Tommy Fleet would use all his points on caddy height. Yeah. He's like, like the button got stuck. Yeah. No, no, no, no.
I don't know my. I don't know. Like games get all that BC back. Wow. Uh, there's another interesting part of the Scotty money thing that we keep talking about $130 million like ton of money. Okay. Great. Great time. $130 million. Thank you. Well, no, I say thank you, Liv, because the reason that those guys are making so much money is because Liv started and all of a sudden they got a huge 300% increase on their tournaments. Uh, well, here's what gets very interesting. That number more than doubles when you add up not even sponsorship money, just the rest of Scotty's money. So we take things like FedExCub tour championship bonuses outside of official money is another 73.7 million. We take Comcast tour top 10 bonuses, another 23 million player impact award, another 19.5 million. And then other documented bonuses and unofficial golf money that be things like the hero world challenge and things like that that are official tour events, another three to four million.
And then if we then bring in what has been estimated by Forbes and his sponsorship money is another one to 120 million just from Forbes estimations that this year alone Scotty brought in between 30 and 40 million in sponsor money, bringing Scotty's total far beyond the $130 million to somewhere in the range of $350 to $370 million. Career earnings. Career earnings. Wow. Yeah. I tried to do a little research to see like how many generations of my family could I essentially retire if I had that much money. If you just spent it, if you lived a normal life, not super savi not super spendy, you could retire about four to six generations of your family. That much. Wow. If you invest a well unlimited, essentially. Yeah. I mean, there better be a statue in all their living rooms. Yeah. Right. That's the first thing my money for them. Go towards who is it going to be? It's going to be the kids. The grandkids are great. Grandkids are going to spend it all.
Yeah. Somebody will mess it up. It'll never work out the way you want it to. So what do you think? Did Ted Scott get a portion of that extra 300? No, like he wouldn't participate in any of the sponsorship money. And then it is rumored that some players do share in the bonuses that come directly from the tour. So that would be like tour championship bonuses and things. But then it's also rumored that things like the player impact award does not, they don't participate in that because that's just quantified off of how famous you were, how much you were in social media, Google searches, airtime, other stuff like that. But it is believed that that even at the five four to five million dollar mark for Ted Scott, it's probably over that. I also have a question about caddies. Do they have their own sponsorship deals? Because I see when I'm Clark's caddy wearing a half a day hat at every, every tournament, but he's not have a day. It's from my understanding because I did look into this little while back that nothing is set.
There's no like, it's always like this in that. A lot of the caddies that are next to the players that get a ton of airtime do end up having their own deals. For example, Ted Scott's always in a night. Yeah. And he is making additional money off that. It's not like, Scotty will pay you a ton if you make him wear it. Yeah. Which again, like why not? Like, did you pay him? Like, what are we doing here? Like, I got three 50 M's. I wonder like how business minded some of these golfers are because you got to be, there's got to be spectrum, right? Some of the, some of the golfers are like, hey, I'm keeping it all. Like, if there's a straight business, this is your, you're doing this and I just feel like Scott, he's like, yeah, just give Ted's money. Like, you know, he talked about that. I was going to say the same thing. Scott, he did. Yeah. Don't go ahead, please. He said that he's very childish with his money that he doesn't want to handle it. So for example, he has a money manager that just takes care of it. So when the check comes in, that guy just gets Ted Scott his cut, gets a cut over to the swing coaches that are participating. If they've got a percentage share, everybody. Then he gets, he lets Scottie know if there's anything that he needs to handle personally
in terms of taking care of financially. Other than that, he goes, I don't want anything to do with it. I would love that. Which totally because like me and Ted's, you know, you Ted Scott hanging out, walking out the fairway doing your thing and he's like, hey, I didn't get my, you know, and we're two weeks behind Scotty. And he's like, I don't know, talk to Jim Bo or whatever. I feel like also these top guys are definitely given their caddy's bonuses. Like I guarantee you, Scottie had a great year. Everyone, however many million dollars, he, he's definitely given that Scott a little chunk off. I guarantee it. He was like, I did give you extra every week by or more than everyone else. He came with four million dollars. You're the top 40 list. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe you know, maybe I just care about my people. Yeah. And for a certain point though, the contracts probably do get better for, for caddies like percentage wise. Like if he's with Scotty for another 10 years, that, that, I feel like, I know what Ted's got up to 20%. No, not that. So it go up to maybe 15. I think that's too high too, probably. I don't know. I don't know. I make it a lot of money though. But think about it. I mean, I think 10 years at that point, I think Ted Scott's just so thankful to be on
his bag. It doesn't matter. He'll like, what are the four million dollars this year to carry to walk around a golf course with carrying a bag? Well, even going back to the early days, Ted Scott said that when Scotty approached him about getting on his bag, Ted Scott wasn't all in right away. Right. But there's some things about you, you need to work on before I want to head on the course. And a lot of it was like emotional frustration and like blowing up on course and all that. He was, I don't want to be around all that. And Scotty had to be like, okay, I promise I'll work on it. Like, you know, I remember us talking about that. It's about a year ago. It's wild to think about that it's like Ted Scott had to accept Scotty. Right. Ever since I found that information out, whenever I see Scotty have a moment where he's frustrated, I'm like, oh, no, don't get mad, Ted. It's like you see him like he's like starts to, he's like, I'm taking the bib off. Yeah. Yeah. No, put it back on. He's like, lacing up the sides. Did you guys see in the press conference that he was talking about the shanky head two years ago?
Scotty had a shank two years ago. Yeah, it was his last one. Yeah, I was going to say two years ago when shot he has first. This shanky. The year he won, I'm pretty sure it was the year he won with the edit strokes. He shanked it and like hit it completely sideways. You remember that? I can't remember. It was like an approach shot or maybe like a 30 yard shot to the green. And that was the last shanky's head. Yeah. Oh my God. Ted Scott also told him, well, if you do that, I quit. Yeah. If you're ever going to shank again, we're done, but can we also talk about a little bit of how he won this tournament? Go on. Just, I mean, by three full strokes, he was down. He what he had to gain five strokes to where he was. And he was like with three groups ahead of like the final pairing. Yeah. And but I tell you what. So we're we're we're painting our living room right now doing the whole spackle and the whole sanding and all the and so Sunday, I'm in there doing my thing kind of working on the walls. And I had the tournament on my iPad with the AirPods in.
And so I'm like sitting there like standing in the wall like. Scott, he's got this. Yeah. I felt like I knew it within the first three holes. I just like you saw it happening. Hovelin was not making birdies. He wasn't scoring. He was kind of hovering at even par like bogey and coming back and whatever it was. And there's Scotty just dropping strokes, dropping strokes, going lower, going lower. Now I was just like, that's it. Here comes as it just like his watch, the Hulk, yeah, stomping down the fairway. Scott, he's coming. And to me, that would create a level of like fear and anxiety and pressure more so than the shot itself. More so than like this shot means winning the FedEx cup. It's more like I have to hit this because Scottie's coming. Yeah. That's where the angst for me would come. Oh my God. So here's the hype of heck or are just what we think did hovelin. Give away this tournament or did Scotty the world's greatest golf right now,
just go out and win that tournament. Well, I think it's a little bit of both. But I think I'm if you look at Victor hovelin side, you know, he shot, I forgot what it was. It was in the 60s in the 60s in the 60s, 72. So for that final round, he did not show up like he did for the first three days. And he even said he goes, if I could have just as easily came out and shot 66 and this whole thing was mine, but I didn't. And he was like, and somebody asked me, they said, you know, are you amazed or impressed by Scottie, Shafler's play because it's not amazing. It's just always good. It's just always good. It's annoying. Right. Like and that's it. He goes, it's not like anything he did out there was some sort of like magical sorcery. It just kept being good and kept being good and kept being good. And that was one of the things Tiger Woods always talked about. He goes, I don't feel like I'm the best player in terms of like making the most coolest trick shots or whatever, which is super modest because some of the greatest trick shots of all time were Tyrone Woods replaced. But he the way, he goes, I just want to wear people down with consistency. Just keep showing up every single day and just be solid after solid after solid.
And to me, that is so much a description of Scottie's game. It reminds me of like, we all played youth sports as a kid. And especially when you're younger, there's usually like that one kid that just grew earlier. He's bigger and he's better than all the other kids. And there's just nothing you can do about it. Yeah. And you just learn to resent that kid because of that. Yeah. Like I wonder if there's some golfers on tour that are generally like, I just don't like Scotty. Nothing is a person. I just can't stand that he's always good. Just won't stop being good. Seriously. Like he's a great person. He's an awesome person. I just can't stand him. There was also this run of putts that wouldn't drop for Havelin. Yeah. They're just like burning edges and they hit the corner of the cup and like turn hard and like. And even that like they were percentage wise putts he had been making all weekend. And they just weren't falling on Sunday. And even that like just looking at three of those putts alone, aside from anything else, makes all the difference. I mean, at least now we're in a playoff. Yeah. I mean, it's so I, it's tough. Did Havelin give it away? Or did Scotty do what he always does and just out consistently stayed consistent over everyone again?
I don't know. Is this the thing? Is it without the penalty being called either on his on his bunker shot? Should that have been a penalty though? It's I mean, like, but once again, it's like another one of those things where it's like letter of the law. Probably yes, but like I just think it's a dumb wall. I know dance got to take what? No, I mean, and I talked about this the other day and I think we posted it. But I said I felt like regardless of what it should or shouldn't have been that on the productions, you know, for the production standpoint and television, like the tournament would have been over three holes prior. Like, you know, I mean, there was there's nothing left to watch. There's, there's that's it. Like if he drops two strokes there as Scotty's pulling away, turn it off. Right. Like let's just watch something else now. So you think and who was NBC or CBS who was doing the I believe it was CBS. Yeah. So you think CBS called into the rules officially. Hey, don't give him a tournament. Don't give him a penalty or like these rules like, hey, could you send us down a clip of, you know, this shot at this time with a slow mo of this man.
They're like, nah, nah, we're not doing that. Did you say something also about the stopping with the close up yet? We were dying by this just for the show. I think we got to be done with that. I agree. Agreed. Yeah. We're doing CSI Miami on these guys. And like, yeah, you're right. Okay, we can now from, you know, 4K HD 240 frames a second C6 granules move have this shot right here. Right. Like we're visibly to any person, even if a rules official stood there and stared at it like up close where they're usually never even is. Could he have seen that in real time at real speed? Right. I have, I have a take every sport. And I don't know if basketball has it, but most of most of every sport has challenges. Okay. Why don't everyone that's playing have a challenge if they see something or you can challenge the play. I got it. Yeah. That should be the only way you could get the up close shots because the up close shots are getting so ridiculously good that you're getting called
for everything. And it's even worse than, it's even worse with the up close shots that are multi holes later getting the penalty because you play different during those holes. If he gets to, if he gets a two stroke penalty here, because this is what, what hole was this? It was 12. Six. It was definitely on the second nine. Right. The second nine. The, but if he, you're going to start playing different, you're going to hit, you're going to take more risky shots. You're going to, if you're going to try and go for the win, right? So if you go and you play four more holes, five more holes and you did not play it with the two stroke penalty, like, you know, that's one thing I don't like. It's like, so I don't, I don't know what the answer is. I just, yeah, we got to go this. This 4k all true. Zoom, like those lenses that are like insane and they're just like cranking in. And like we're seeing granules each and even still like when I watched the video of this, I didn't see an impression of his club or change any sand at all. I like the thing is if you were to freeze frame the sand before the club and
the sand after the club, I do believe there is like a microscopic noticeable amount of difference. But again, only because we're zoomed in like 9,000 X and, you know, even able to do that where you can take two side by side images and compare if there's a granule of sand difference, then we shouldn't be calling it. Yeah. There's no call. I think the biggest issue is what you said is the calling it holes that holes like dude, could you imagine NFL seasons coming up? They call back a touchdown that was in the first quarter in the second quarter. Yes. Imagine the world after further review, the touchdown in the first quarter has been overturned. Same thing in baseball, like if there's a runner on third and you tags up and goes home and leaves early, you only have the first before the first pitch that throw it or else it's dead. Like when Holland hits his next shot after this, there should be no going back. Like if you want to call it after before he hits his next shot, sure. But that does that mean you have to have a rules official following each player. I mean, there's people in the booth that are I'm sure looking at some sort of
cameras with 2000 X zoom. Right. That's the problem. Yeah. Yeah. It's annoying. Like all you can do is like zoom a maximum of eight X. Right. I think this is a problem, especially with replay that we've seen in every single sport. Yes. It's just kind of it's starting to hit golf a little bit later than it hit the other sport, but it's there now. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know what the solution is. The only solution is to be like Cameron Young and go out and play the tournament all by yourself. Right. Here's something. The note here's something interesting with the tournament. So if you look when hoblin, you know, you say, do you like you asked the question? Somebody asked him, you know, is it hard playing it since somebody who's so great? And he's like, he, he, he politely said it's not that he's great. He's just always good. Yeah. Yeah. You know, the great quote. The, all right. So round one, 65 to 64 hoblin. Round two, 67 to 66 hoblin. Round three, 66 to 65 hoblin. Right. Round one, two and three. Yeah.
He beat him. Round three, round four, 66, 72. Right. So this was a seven game series. You're taking hoblin probably. Right. I mean, I don't know. He just, he put together three really good days and just couldn't do the four. Yeah. Yeah. One match plays a better format. I can't wait for Scotty a match play. Yeah. It's going to be fun. I mean, it's going to be so much fun. Yeah. At the same time. It's going to be so much fun. Scotty's never been the star of the rider cup. Yeah. Yeah. But he does just fine in the rider cup. Yeah, but this time he's by himself. I'm just like, like, what do we see? Do you know, two and a half years ago in Rome, were you sitting on the back of the golf car crying? It means a lot to I was crying. We were both crying. I remember like, because I was like, it's okay. It's got to be like, I was like rubbing his back. I got a brochure. I'll be honest with you. Dan, I'll be honest with you. I don't think there will be a difference because team golf is different from individual golf. Yeah, but a match is a match. Like I, I, I'm playing you. We have 18 holes to decide. And then in the end, you got the point.
Yeah, but there's not a bigger picture. Usually when like team events, you're still so like rider cup. Doesn't mean a lot to these guys. No, no, no, no, no, I'm not saying that. I'm not saying I'm saying the mindset's different. Like you're not playing for a team. Like you want to get a point for your team. You're playing for yourself. Like survivor die. Like, so here's the thing. Cause I'm all for it. Cause like, what happens? Let's just say Tommy's the greatest match player of all times. And he's just got to make it. And if he just makes it, he wins it every single time. Yeah. I mean, I, I think it's going to be a disadvantage for Scotty and match play compared to stroke play. Cause like it, it's just, and it's more of a blip. Like you can have a bad day and you're done. Like, yeah, Scott, like Scotty can have a bad day on the four days. But if he plays great the other three days, he can, or like he didn't play great last weekend. Right. You know, he had hand foot. Mouth and go awesome. But he won in Memphis. Yeah. Had hand foot mouth to BMW and then comes back and wins at his lake. Right. But that bad week puts him out of it. Potentially. I think it's like we're moving, we're moving forwards in what I like to see.
But we're moving backwards in terms of crowning the best golfer of the PGA tour as the tour champion every year. We had starting strokes which basically guarantees the best guy's going to win. Now we have this, which still have the best guy winning because it's stroke play. Yeah. And now we're moving to match play, which is the least likely for the best guy. But at the same time, I don't feel like the tour championship needs to be the same crown as player of the year. Okay. I feel like, okay, like if we go back to the 08, 09 NFL season with the patriots, going undefeated to the Super Bowl, does that mean that they should have still been handed that Super Bowl? Absolutely not. Right. Coach of the year, but that they entire year got him there. It gave him a shot, but that doesn't mean that that the thing is faulty and the system is broken. And we've got to fix how the Super Bowl works because they didn't get handed it. Right. Like this. Does that come I did that? I loved that. That's what you do. And you pulled in football. Yeah. With years in the right team. Hold on. It's always the same year. Wait, so here's a question. Who's the better? 0708. It was. It was so close.
I didn't want to correct you. I didn't want to. The only reason I know is we were on the biggest loser and I watched that Super Bowl at Bob Harper's. And the Mark Mark and Jay are from New England and they were going into it so fired up. And Roger, the guy who played for Alabama just to be against them was rooting for the Giants. So I joined Roger. Oh, shocker. Yeah. And so I was doing the. Oh, I could just I could just see young you with those older guys. Yeah. Yeah. It's like us hanging out with you now. And just watching them just like melt. And I like I kept calling it the football finale. Like it's yeah, we're watching the football finale. But all the other side that is why match play is better is because like a magic at the NFL season, which is whoever wins the most games in the regular season. Right. And it would be the old FedEx cup and you start with 30 points. Yeah. Yeah. I can do it. But it's straight up after that. Yeah. You get 30 starting points, but then it's straight up. Nothing changes. Full 100 yards. Hold down. So yeah.
I can't wait. One more years. Back in the football real quick. Who's better? The 07 Patriots to six seven Patriots or the 85 bears? Well, because the bears won the Super Bowl. Does that make them better? Oh, for sure. That's one of the many reasons. Tommy was probably better than Scotty last year. I mean, it's worth assuming that the representation of winning the last tournament means you're the best player of the year or it just means you're the most clutch when accounted to win the big trophy and the biggest prize. Yeah. Yeah. The better team was though. Say that. Say that again. Which part? The Tommy thing. Oh. That would make Tommy a better player than Scotty last year. I couldn't even remember the line I said four seconds ago with that. Well, whatever. Yeah. This, but the light is at the end of the tunnel for this tour championship. It's going to become the best event of the year.
Yeah. I really hope. And here's the thing. I wasn't upset with the way it's set up now with when it's everybody starting the last event all equal. It's better than before first. It's much better than the 30 stroke lead and all that kind of stuff. Like it really made it unwatchable. Yeah. I forget. There was a moment when Scotty was taking a picture and he had a Brian roll lap on one side and had Jay Monahan was walking up on the other side. And Jay Monahan said something to the effect of like, man, like such a good job Scotty. I'm going to miss this like being out here and like awarding the trophy. And Scotty's like, oh, man, I'm, I'm sure you won't be going far. You know, but it was just like, you have a sad moment. Yeah. He was like, Is it because Jay Monahan's leaving? Well, I mean, you know, because Brian roll lap came in to be the CEO and Jay Monahan is like stepping back. I, you know, I think he's more stepping back for three years. Here's the thing. Do you think he's more sad stepping back now that like live is kind of like that he's slowly slowly going away?
Um, I think he's sad because he's being, um, okay, I'm going to be careful with my words here. He lost his job. I think it's being revealed that some alternative decisions that were made actually were better for the tour. And I think we're looking back at a lot of the changes being made were changes he implemented. Yeah. You know, the change that need to be made were from things that he implemented. You get my point. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, or Jay, we always loved him. We always spoke highly of him. Always have always. Never stopped. I'm in Rob DeRero. Uh, what else we got going on gang? We got the British masters. We do. There was a very interesting story from the British masters of family affair. Here's the main issue with the British masters. I don't know where it was. I don't know when it was played. And I don't know who played in it. Yeah. But we're here to talk about it. We are. But that's pretty appropriate for the British masters. But I think probably about a year ago as well. We're now we're just recycling old conversations.
Yeah. But we talked about how the British masters shouldn't exist because there shouldn't be another man. Was it even on TV? Uh, maybe on BBC. Yeah. Yeah. We got to read down a little bit. Yeah. But it's offloaded to the cloud. Yeah. Delete the one that was offshore. But the interesting part, the winner Joe Dean. Yes. Ranked number 292 in the world. Came up seven shots behind. Going in the Sunday. Yeah. And finished. Nine under 63 with a bogie free. Nine birdies. Four birdies over his, uh, over his final six. What does that mean? Over his final six holes. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to add that. So I don't screw it up next time. Yeah. First DP World Tour victory. And speaking of caddies with no vibes. He had his wife on the back. Oh, that's. So do you think when he was struggling, she was going on with some like OTPHJs or what? Like what's going on? Wow. Uh, or do you think like I literally am going. Oh, T.
Do you think there's a moment where like they're looking for his ball and she's like, Oh, no. He's like, what? He goes, Oh, nothing. It's fine. What? It's fine. Everything's fine. You think she was nagging the around. I'm high. We have so much to do after this. Like you see her like finishing a water and he's like, Hey, my water. And she's like, You see her with her phone out like putting things in the calendar for after. What do you mean we're redoing the fence after this? We should stop and get ground beef on the way home. That's great. So here's something that I just looked up on the masters, right? So you have like majors that are actually like like level events, right? But masters is not a class or level of an event. It's just literally the masters of the British masters. Masters itself, not not any just masters like majors like the masters is a major because there's zero affiliation between the British masters and the masters.
Correct. Correct. So they're just stole the name. Yeah. Right. But there's also there's so there's so many there's a lot of Australian, Italian masters, Scandinavian masters, Australian, Indonesia, Korea, Omega European masters like. So there's a lot of masters, but I don't think masters masters. I don't muggle. I don't think masters masters. I don't muggle. I mean, you're like, you're like, you're scared. If you win the British masters, you're going to walk around telling people you won the masters, right? Yo, yeah, I'm at least one more. Yeah. I want to do this masters. Yeah. I mean, if I hit a hole in one on a practice part three, I'm going to tell everybody hit a hole in one. Yeah. And then if they ask me about it, then I will tell them where I hit it and how like at a very low volume where they can't hear, then I won't respond when they say what I tell you what, Josh, you brought up a great point. We were talking about, we were talking about albatrosses and, you know, the story we had from last week, the hole in one on a par four. Yeah.
And there's a lot of discrepancy over the how valid a hole in one on a par three courses, but how valid is the albatross of a hole in one on a par four on a short course? And to me, like, wait, that comes back into play. Yeah. Like some of your par threes, like, I know the one that we go to sometimes, I don't know if you go to it a lot, but the one by us, there's three reachable par fours in this par three course. So if you hit one in on that par four hole in one, that's kind of just, I feel like that counts no caveat. Yeah. I agree. A hundred percent. I want to just like what I said, if I hit it in a practice round, I'm going to count it. And then just if you ask me, well, I was on a practice round or the same way, I'm going to say, well, that was on a par three course. Or well, that was on a simulator of a par three course. If they ask, correct. If they ask, what's like I always tell everybody the first time I ever shot, I shot, I broke out, I was shot under a hundred. I was super excited on the first nine. It was a, it was a par three nine hole course.
Yeah. Scramble for them on the simulator. But wow. I will good for him and his wife, Joe Dean and Mrs. Jody. Do you think she gets a cut at any of that caddy money? All of it. Probably. He's like trying to be very specific on the 10%. He's like, five, seven, 10, honey. What do you want me to do here? I want to say this Joe Dean guy also actively works on a grocery store, I think. Get out. I'm pretty sure. Like, this is like Kurt Warner all over again. Dean has also previously worked as a grocery delivery driver. Instacart. They've Instacart over there and Britain. Like do you think on the way home? He just flips the app on just to, you know, quick up. Does he work for Jimmy Dean? He should. I'm over Bob Evans sausage guy. You know what I mean? Yeah, he was actually like, he was on his way home going to flip out on his like, nope. I won the masters today. I'm not going to flip out Instacart. And then he puts on a green hoodie so we could say he has a green jacket. There's been some controversy around betting in sports and a golfer who is now paying the
ultimate punishment. Uh, Matt Goggle. Yeah. Really good name. Really, really good name. I read it as Google. I think it's gogal. Uh, I literally thought you might say and we're saying Google. Let me gogal it and see how you pronounce it. Matt Goggle suspended for betting. PJ Tours suspended former tour winner Matt Goggle for six months. Yeah. He placed multiple bets on PJ tour events during the 2024 2025 season. The important part or the very important part. The tour said he did not bet on any tournaments that he was playing in. Then why do he get suspended? I don't know across the board. Like is this how it works in every sport? Yeah, yeah. Like, can you bet on like Peewee football? Yeah, you can't even like if you're on an NFL roster. Not only can you not bet on the NFL, you also can't bet on other sports inside the facility. There are players that have gotten got inside the facility. Help me out there. So you're saying if I'm working out in the gym for the Lions, I can't and I'm on the Lions,
I cannot go bet on Michigan State College basketball or I will be suspended. Or what about is it same like if you're a bulls player, you can't bet on black hawks. Well, I mean for any sport, you can't like you literally can't bet on any sport on team grounds that includes hotels when traveling. But you said you could bet on them while you're at home lounging on the couch. But if you like get a push notification and you open the app and you're like, oh, yeah, I'll take that parlay. Yep, you get suspended. Wow. It's kind of a ridiculous rule for the Lions practice at Michigan State. No, I just that was just the first college that came to mind. No, nothing to do. Could you bet on anything like could you do like a predictions market on the weather tomorrow? I don't know about that. Wow. I don't I think you should be able to bet on every sport that isn't your own. Yeah. Anything you have no control over, you should be able to bet on. I don't understand why you can't bet on yourself to win. Well, so there is a reason why so like Pete Rose, that was one of the things he got banned from baseball forever. He only when he would bet he bet a lot of things.
But he also he would bet on the reds, but only to win the caveat to that he was coaching them at that point. So if he put money on to win, he could burn out his his bullpen, do everything he can to stack the game as hard as he can, not worrying about future games because he bet this thing. Exactly. Yeah. So that's the how would that apply to like golf? Like I used up all my good drives. You know, people like me and I wasted them all in the range. I feel like a sport you should be able to bet on as long as it's like obviously you can't bet that I'm going to shoot under par with it. Yeah. But then you okay, you could bet to win, but you can't bet to get second or like yeah, definitely not. That should be a road. Burger or more on the tip. All your I hope I bear. You could bet with yourself. You can never bet against yourself. Yeah. You know, there is one sport where you are allowed to do you guys know? Nice car. You're allowed to bet on your spot. Bet on yourself. Boxing poker. You have to say boxing might be able to as well. UFC UFC you can bet on yourself. Yeah.
Can't bet against yourself though. Can't bet against yourself. No, but there's also there's been a lot of conspiracy. So Danaway's huge into that and has the FBI actually works hand in hand with them. And they will watch and monitor the money and they'll see like, Hey, for some reason, this guy just got $500,000 bet on him out of nowhere. He's the only got you know, $200,000 total bets on him. And he'll call the FBI and say, Hey, this is weird. And like because he does not want to lose the gambling rights to UFC or be looked at as a rupture or anything. Well, he's a hardcore gambler himself. He knows the game. I mean, you see Danaway's videos and playing Blackjack. Oh, yeah. Like he's insane. It's really anything within solder information. Like, I don't think I should be able to bet on my teammate to get three catches on a game either because I know the game plan before the game. Wasn't there a basketball player? Would you got busted for that? It was like you would, you know, get X amount of rebounds in a game and it showed him like literally pushing his own team out of the way to like get a rebound. Oh, that was rumored. No, that's no, no, no.
That was true. I mean, like there's like core documents on the whole thing and everything. But there was one replay they had where it was like a second and a half left. Like he runs out of nowhere. Like the game is over and the points don't matter. But he got that last rebound in his solo celebration was so dramatic. And they were showing like the specific bets that were placed. And then they had also subpoenaed and like the text message threads from his group chats. And they were just like, yo, one and a half seconds left. No way. Got it, James. That's like that Tim Donoguy referee. Is that his name? Did I get that right? Just off the dome? It's DOU something. I forget how to say it. But yeah, no, it happens. I mean, John Tay Porter right now, there's a dude in the NBA who got busted for intentionally getting hurt to start of her game because he was just hammering his under. Geez. So he would just like bet himself under Roller's ankle in the first quarter and not play for the rest of the game. I mean, his whole team would just catch out. Yeah, they're like, are you good? He's like, no. No. Hi. And I'm good.
I'm not good at all. The condo. We can talk about the condo. This is something that like is I feel like maybe pretty basic golf, but I had no idea that this existed or the name of it at least. Yeah. Well, we obviously, you know, talked last week about the, uh, the Albatross, which is a hole in one on a par four or second shot on your par five. And the interesting thing was, you know, I talked a little bit about how I thought the more special version of the Albatross is the hole in one of the par four. Because it's still the hole in one. But when there should have been one stroke in between, a lot of people in the comments were pointing out something interesting. They said, no, the Albatross in the par five is more elite because it takes two perfect shots. Whereas the whole one in the par four requires one perfect shot. And that second shot, you have to be perfect from you don't get to choose your lie. You don't get to place it on a tee. You don't get to have like the flat T box stance guaranteed. It's just wherever that first shot lands, you then have to now execute another perfect shot from there. All right. I'm going to push back a little. Okay. Because so the.
We do have that. I can't. I'm just ridiculous. Think I've writing. So, uh, that's standard. It's not two perfect shots. It's one good shot and a perfect shot. That was my exact argument. That's the thing. It's not two perfect shots because it doesn't matter. I just got to hit it down there. It doesn't have to be down there in the exact spot in the exact spot in the exact spot. I just have to go from that lie to there. I'd so if we're if we're, you know, it's a par five that's, you know, 500 yards, you know, if I'm hitting it to 5,300. All right. So now I got to hit a 200 yard hole in one, you know, like it's a good point. I can't counter. Sure. So a difference between a good shot and a perfect shot to me. A good shot is just hitting the fairway, right? And if we learned anything from when we went when Dan hit that solo eagle, thank you. He we were we were that's a perfect place to be on the fairway.
Yeah. A left side of a dog leg, dog leg right and with trees just all across the right side where we normally would have to hit over the trees or try to go around. A good shot is putting it in that area. A perfect shot is putting it where we put it there so we can have that approach shot that went all the way up the green. So I do believe it's perfect. Perfect. Hmm. So it's so in your world, a perfect shot. It's not our world right now. It is a 20 yard circle. Yeah. It's it's all about that second. It's about the angle of the second shot. I understand the second. But what I'm saying is that you can be anywhere in a 20 yard circle. And you're still fine. Well, and here's the other point. I want to say more like a five yard circle. You talked about when, you know, there's sort of that perfect spot the front corner. Otherwise, we're kind of hitting it up over those trees. Yeah. But you still could do it from there. Yeah, but it's it's a lot harder to keep a three wood, the not roll when you
got a sky it all the way up in the air and have it try to say. But the point being it is executable without two perfect shots. That's the point. And one, you're giving yourself a better chance, a better, you know, put in a better position for it. I'm of the belief that the whole one on the par four is more impressive. However, as we talk this out, you still need a perfect second shot. Yeah, regardless of the first shot is and you need a perfect shot on the first one of the par four. So maybe it's equal, but what's a perfect shot is a perfect shot of dunk? Is it in the hole? Is it a lucky bounce to get it in there? Like that's the difference that we're kind of it's like to me. I don't think a dunk is a perfect shot. I don't think so either. I see the logic, but if I had a hole in one on a dunk, that was a perfect shot. I couldn't have done anything better. And there he is. Justin Rose got a hole in one on Sunday. And on the particular hole was playing very difficult par three. And the pin was very close to the front edge. And then just off the green was water. And so where people were struggling was, I don't want to be short and try and get up to the cup.
I need to be either at it or past it to stay safe. Because if I make any miscalculation or something goes wrong and I try to play front side of that pin, I am in the water. So Justin Rose hit it right to it and just sank it straight in the cup. So I do feel like in that scenario, he reached perfection on that whole set up. That's fair. Yeah. That's fair because he was he was fine with it hitting and rolling past. Yeah. Because that's what he was aiming for. But then it also worked to be a dog. Just straight. No rattle, no nothing. I think nine times out of 10, you know, 95 out of 100 shots. You're usually not trying to have your ball land where the cup is to get it to stop in the I would say pros. You're probably more correct about pros than amps. I stand on the par three two box. I get my rangefinder out and I shoot it and it's 164. I am looking for my club and I'm with all my intentions hitting a 164 shot.
And then a calculations for wind, whatever, you know, I might tell myself the room is in front of the cup. So short is better than long. So if I'm kind of in between clubs, I want one that that might err to the side of last or err to the side of more. But I am setting up at that pin and trying to hit that number I just shot. Whereas pros aren't. Yeah, they're not doing that. You know what I mean? They're depending on that distance is the ball going to stop, rip back, skip, hold, move, work the green. I mean, I think we're also all living in a quote unquote pros head space. Yeah. We're not living in my handicap because I can't hit 164. I can do a 160 to 170. Yeah. 16d like. I'm not. Yeah. I thought you were about to say like, I can't hit 164 like my driver goes 150 years. I'm like, Yeah. Six. I'm excited. Yeah. But then we have the condor. That's crazy. The condor, which is only achieved by a hole in one on a par five or your second shot
on a par six. How many par sixes are out there? I've never played. There's about 20 to 40 of them like in the world. Wow. Very, very limited. What is it? That's data was like one in 20,000 holes or something like that or some ridiculous number. We were even looking to see are there any courses around here with a par six? We wanted to go try one. And there isn't. There we there isn't one around here. Uh, but was it up in El Gaanquin? Yes. At the good old, uh, Chicago, was it golf club Chicago or something? Chicago off club. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, that's where that's what that was before. Like if there's only 20 to 40 in the world, it's pretty close if there's one in El Gaanquin. Actually, you're totally right. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so we have a new goal in life. The golf golf passes golf passes database, which is from 15 years ago said there were about 25 US courses with a par six. Wow. But that's a 15 year old database. So that's, and we know golf courses are closing.
What's people are saying like par sixes can generally be like 60, 670 yards or longer and stuff like that. But you also got to consider like elevation like out in TPC, Colorado on number 13 to 730. There's 773 yard par five. And that's all downhill. Like all these, all these four, like the north, the gallery north, uh, number nine, that's another one. That's 725 yards and then the show's fighting Joe number 12, 716 yards, still a par five. So it's like, it depends on like not only the distance, but like the elevation as well. All right. So looking here, we got a par six. If you're playing the tips, 841 yards. Yeah. Jumping a pot. Um, essentially gives you, okay, I just did this math and I immediately forgot what it was. 841, 841 yards, assuming you've got four shots to get to the green and then two pots to get it in. Um, you're looking at a 210 yard shot four times.
That's not bad. It's not crazy. That's not crazy. That's not for iron for iron for iron. That's not a little exaggeration though. This one's a long one. That's a big one. Like I don't think you're getting that into. I just think that's so exotic to play the tips on a par six and you've got 841 yards. I mean, because you got to think about your most, most people that are driving well or doing a 250 300 drive, right? Like I'm a, I'm a love or 200. Most people are not 300. No, no, no, no, no, no, but 250 like you're scratch golfers. Yeah, 250. 250 is like a solid average, a good average player. And then I mean, I'm hitting my rescue club 200. So like that's very easy. Yeah. I'm sure what it just again, it's all, all have to be great shots because if you get into the woods off of your first shot, and you still have 630 to go, it's crazy. All I'm saying is I call the reds on this one. Yeah.
Next time I'm playing a par five, I'm going to get on the T and be like, are this for condor? It's also wild that you're playing the reds 495 par six. Yeah, that's still a, I mean, now you got a chance to really do some special. Yeah, yeah. Like Eagle is way in play. Yeah. I mean, because 495 is a long par four. Correct. And now you've got six. That's Albatross. But if you top your first one 15 yards, it's just immediately no help. I will say judging by the picture of this course, it's not an easy course. Huge body of water right where you would normally drive to. Huge body water with a bunker right before the green. Well, and also like looking from the T box of the tips, up to about the start of the fairway, looks like about a third. Right. So that first carry is about a third of 840. Yeah. I'll say though, this is the longest hole in America.
That's great. Where's it up? It metal farms. Oh, that's just up at Meadows Farms. Oh, it's just South of Meadows. Yeah, it's a solid track up there in Meadows Farms. It's good to get there. Yeah. Man, I tried Book of Teeth times, you've got a hot deal in golf now. Honestly, Albatross is a pretty lame. They are looking at it. Especially when like, do you know there is condor out there? Yeah, like now I don't even care about it. Yeah. I was, yeah, I almost don't want one. I'm going to do the most block after I can almost don't want. I don't want a ball back ever again. I want them to go for these now. That's all. I feel like it should almost be a USGA standard that par sixes are implemented. Yeah, everybody's got a shot. But by the same logic, what if we made like some part two's? And it's like you start on the green. Bogey. Bogey. Hi guys. Yeah. Good stuff. Good stuff. Condor is the new goal. Yep, the only goal. You got to set goals. That's what's important. Yeah. And if we have a goal, then that's how you achieve it.
But I just had the thought of on par sixes if you get a hole in one, that's a double condor and I no longer care about condor. You know what? You bring up a really important point, a double condor. Well, you're driving 841 directly into the cup. I think it should be like tarot act or something at that point. I just keep getting more like the bird. The fiend. I do like how they're all birds. Yeah. I like the fiends. And bogeys are just not screaming. Well, there is an interesting story as to why they all do have bird names. And we're going to tell you about that next week right here on the Dan Heaven show on the one and only. So, let's start it. Thank you. 219 days of the Masters.
