Hey, Chase, how you feeling after your first multi-set game with the team? It was cool, but obviously didn't get to win. So, you know, still things we got to do. There was a question yesterday about maybe the extra motivation because you were going up against Washington. Did you feel any of that motivation? Did you try to compartmentalize that a little bit? Now, to me, it was just, you know, going in the game, doing my job, you know, just played the best I can. Chase, what were you guys able to do to capitalize in the past Russian? I mean, second guy eight times is obviously something that's pretty rare in the NFL. Yeah, man, I feel like these last four weeks, I feel like we just been Russian better together. Just, you know, been in tune in the show. Okay, man, I know we chase we just are, I know we can't just rely on numbers, but, you

know, the 10 pressure is last week, the two sacks this week. Do you feel like you're playing some of the best football in your career right now? Yeah, for sure. You know, just trying to stay locked in. Just, you know, my motto, getting in the air, just keep rushing. And that's all I can tell you to do. Pam was saying the other day that he had to help give you some advice or share some words for you. What did he tell you? What is he kind of, he always tries to give me nuggets, you know, just throughout the soul of season. You know, he's just told me, taught me a lot, just about the gang off the field stuff. So we always talk. Chase, how would you summarize the impact of Brian? Oh, um, D.Y. You know, guy who played position, guy who just been around the game so long.

You know, we go to practice, we go back to the basics, hand placement steps, low pad level. So D.Y. He's definitely a great addition to, you know, just taking that role and, you know, doing his thing with it. Has the past rush been simplified a little bit, Darren? What's kind of saying that like over the last four weeks, some of it, how has it been? We've been scheming up a little differently, but, you know, for the most part, it's just now just being our one of ones, you know, you know, just getting opportunities to do it. It looked like just going back and watching through that the commanders put some extra attention on Brian, Brzee, and on the interior every now and then. How does that impact you guys over on the edge? Yeah, it was every on, you know, two, double one guy, you know, at least one guy, one

one, and I think yesterday we just don't do it good. It just won't know what a one's all across the board. And is that where sort of the fundamentals of what B.Y. has been focused on? Is that where that has the greatest impact? We've just been focusing on everything past rush, run game, just everything is out. Thanks guys. Thanks, thanks, James. Cool. Thank you. With guys going in, going out, you moving back to guard, going coming in. What was that like in the moment, having to adjust on the fly? I mean, we're built for this, like, just how, you know, I moved the center and Steve moved the left guard. It's just we're all pretty much interchangeable. And we're going to all play all positions across the board. And, you know, when it comes down to that time, you know, things like that going to happen. We're ready for it.

AJ came in and given all of the circumstances for him coming off. I mean, all those guys are ready, you know, we, we prepare during the week, during during training camp for situations like this. So it's not nothing new to them, you know, guys are calm, cool, collected. They have good composers. So being elevated, being active, being a starter, you know, we're all in the same boat, ready to fly. I know it's a next man of mentality, but in real time when that was happening, these guys were going down and switching. What was the challenge for both physically and mindset? I mean, we're all, like I said, we're all pretty much interchangeable, you know, like, if I need to go to left guard center, whatever, bone needs to go to center, my guard, however, you know, it's, it's not really like a big shocker moment, you know, it's, we train for this. We're prepared for this. So when it happens, you know, we're able to execute. When you do stuff, you be making the switch. To left guard. Think half time? Well, coming in, it's a rookie in the crowd and the noise and I know you said,

you guys all trained for this, but what can you tell us about how he, yeah, I mean, he's a man, you know, he's, he's, he's, he's built for this moment. He's done it for his whole life. So, you know, at the end of the day, it's just a game. And we keep on, we keep trying to keep everybody calm, and collect it. And, you know, we're five is one. We help each other out and whenever, you know, we need to, we, we do it. So he was ready. He was built for it. You know, he's going to be a great player. You're obviously no stranger to Matthew's toughness. What was the like just seeing the way he let this off? I think I, the guy's a warrior. 36 years old, he's taken some hits and some things and some dent. So, and he's able to get back up and keep it rolling. You know, he's still got that fire to him. And, you know, we love having him back there. Sean has always said after a loss, don't let the team beat you twice. But to have the lead late in the game, all the injuries and not win, we described that level of frustration. I mean, it's the NFL. It comes down to seconds and inches. And we've seen it all through past couple days and today. You know, it comes down to the, the little things.

And, you know, we'll see them again. They didn't apologize if you were asked this, but what was it like for you personally to walk on the other days? It was kind of surreal, man. It was nice. It was a lot emotional seeing everybody. You know, I wasn't a kid when I came here, but, you know, I grew into more of a man. And, and these people here have definitely helped lay that blue print for me. It helped me out big time. And, you know, I can't thank them enough for that. You know, you've looked at film yet for how you feel about the D. I feel really good, you know, saying it could be because, because everything, you know, fair for all of a sudden, OTSG is showing up. You know, we said I ground. We came with, um, short camera, sure a little bit, but in that end day, you know, it's a lot of the way I'm from. I see a bright future for us. I think that's been on there over time, right? I mean, you guys have been stopping them, and then they just seem to kind of get a role. Yeah, you know, um, you know, just something that we just need work on, you know, got to play around better on that and, uh, just kind of eliminate the big phase. That's all that becomes now, too, but, uh, overall, I just felt like we just, uh, just came to show on that.

So, as the offense is kind of struggling to find it's hurting early in the game, what did you guys feel like you had to do as a defense to do on that? I feel like we just need to step up, you know, I know they would have come through and have our back. So, uh, I just tell the offense, you know, we got y'all back, you know, just keep going, y'all doing what we want people to try to hold in the best we can. So how did the visit go? Oh, it was great. Yeah, now I, uh, I loved the, uh, what was it that year? Um, you could tell it has really good, uh, family ties, strong connection. What were some things that you were looking for on your visit? Whether it's, you know, talking to coach and our vales team, I guess what was important to you on this visit? So, I mean, for me, I mean, like, this was kind of like a big decision for me where I'm assigned to kind of like, not finish my degree of rest and then to the quarter of the cycle. You know, to find the place where I can develop the most, and then just have to go to my coach, um, you know, final place where I can face the competition, not only in games, but also in practice as well. And part of the most important is just finding a good good guy is that are dedicated to winning, dedicated to being great because I mean,

you have the team of me guys who are serious about, not to be great, um, and just waste the time of money. So, you know, the problem, I'm not big three with the culture being kind of important. Being being around coach, um, hand-to-day, uh, what was kind of the things that you noticed around him, just whether it's how he is or just how, what your thoughts of him being around him most of the time. He's an incredibly detailed guy. Yeah, I got that for sure from us. Just like Washington Phil, I want to get broke down. It's like some game film with me, and he also kind of broke down. So, the guys that he, he's coaching the past that are similar to me. And, you know, that was, uh, he really just showed how, how good a coach he is. Getting no coach on the elder during this experience, what has happened? It was good. He's a, he's a very passionate guy. And I mean, I love that. Like, uh, a head coach should have that and, um, that you can tell how much he cares about, to go out with the guys, want the program, about the psych, being dedicated, being driven to, to win, to succeed.

What did they tell you about the opportunity here as far as meeting a player you were sore at a position in the long enough as a boy? Well, I mean, they, they see me at, I left back when, with, um, I'll be a good fit, you know, coming in. I was, as a coach, no go, I was stressed, you know. I also love the great, um, one of the most of linemen in the portal that have lots of grace to be able to say that he's fit wise on how he'll be good fit when he comes. Such as, I would, what you guys do, what, uh, if a scene does, I'm going to cite the people here. What's kind of the ultimate feeling now about FSU? Have you solved this big experience with them? What's kind of the feeling about them? Yeah, it's, it's, it's a, it's definitely a good feeling. It's great. I don't know. Glad that I was actually able to come down here to, um, some calls and, phone calls are nice, but, you know, in person, it's a lot different. And it's a game to know the staff, your game to know coach, it's a, you know, coach, I'm going to, it's a great experience. So, for all, who else have you checked out during this process? What are the schools? Oh, I've talked to some others, so I've talked to, um, a house, say, in the Iowa,

and A&M, really just, uh, you know, that's what I've been, I've tried to keep the store, I've tried to keep the suite, and probably need to be 20 months of schools. That's not the man priority. Are you entering decision mode now? Are you intent to take some trips in urban January? Yeah, I'm done with this. 21 design. Um, some time before Christmas. With all. Okay. For those of us who only seem to make the highlights of the width of your strengths and areas, you're looking to improve them. So, shrink wise, I would say, probably just, um, move it. Um, yeah, I'm told that goes very well for a 300, 45 pound guy. Got the best stuff. You know, if I, just ever done an off-fill, it's like, I've got my stances, the big thing for me, so big, and, uh, just be able to lift people. But at the same time, also, those need to assist in and hand-placing a bunch and forward in general to the second week. Because I mean, if you're, if you're a big, strong guy, you totally do so much.

You might, you don't have the right to need so. That's a, that's a big reason why I want to have if you don't want to go somewhere. So, we'll find that to need to, to be precise with everything. Yeah, that's kind of why we're all looking for to improve it. Who? Thanks. A lot of low-highs in the fans, because they always travel. But are we a pro-Texas crowd for the most part? Do you guys kind of thrive off that? Do you like that kind of being the enemy? I guess? Um, I mean, you can say that, but you know, we don't really, you know, try to focus on the fans. We just want to, you know, produce on the field. If it's a way game, home game, you know, we just want to go out there and execute. Uh, four-throw, uh, right. Cameron T. Grawl has sent me athletic. If there's a lot to say when you guys all came back, this also, the other team that went on could be these last two games, we have 12 stacks. You guys really aren't blitzing the time. It's not even the start. The bench guys can yada. They just come in. Which is what's it been like to see this realizes potential and kind of, with the kind of recap glass we just made? Uh, I say we always knew what we had in our room.

You know, it's just, now it's just showing up, you know, teams are scheming us different ways. And it's, uh, allowing, you know, certain players and making certain plays. And I think, you know, we got so many guys in the room, you know, we have two that can be ones anywhere. We have three that can be ones anywhere in the country. But they all, you know, decided to stick here and, uh, you know, grind this thing out with the guys they came in with. And, like I said, I think we have a great group who, you know, can make plays anytime. When you guys get eight sex in a game, but also, a whole different, a lot of us are minus 25 rush yards in the game. What is that like? What is that say about just going for the job you guys did? I said, uh, I think it's a great feeling, you know, looking up at the scoreboard, seeing like a negative, um, definitely, um, but you know, it's just like all the work we put in over the summer, over the season, you know, we've been building this defense to where it is now. And like I said, when we're executing and we're at a high level, it's hard, you know, do anything with us. Behind the enemy Birmingham,

uh, the bot cat. But, totally, I'm not going to ask you to call out officials, okay? But I do want to ask you, have you ever been told support? Yeah, I think our whole D-line gets held, you know, every game. I don't know what the reps are saying or what's going on with that, but you turn on the tape and really look at it. We're held almost every play. So, is there something that you can you guys be better actors, can you be more, uh, uh, dramatic? A lot of it. What do you think has to happen for it to get called in your favor one time this season? Uh, we can be actors, but you know, we don't really teach nothing like that. But I don't know if it's where I'll, because we're Ohio State, you like, you know, letting things go or what it is, but it's been, you know, pretty bad. I know y'all see it too. It's every play, almost every game. We got you. Uh, Adam, think WBNF? We have a chance to see a glimpse of Coach Dave's pretty game speech. The intensity that you've seen for them for the last two games in the playoffs.

Is that different than you've seen throughout the year? And what does that do for this group before you go out on the field anymore? Um, I want to say it's different. He's been like that his whole year, but it's just now, it's, you know, getting recorded and posted. But definitely when you see your head coach, it's fired up like that. It likes the fire and you, so you know, go out there and do better. And you know, you can't thank Coach Dave enough, because you know, he's our leader over his team. And when he's like that, he makes you want to, you know, go out there and do great for him for like the guys around us. Scotty, we're going to go to you with a couple of our Zoom. Yes, sir. We're going to start with Andy Anders. Andy, go ahead. Yeah, I mean, uh, Texas has a runs a lot of outside zone schemes that you're just watching. What's important for the thing? Those kinds of plays on the ground? And I, I guess just uh, you're streaming out those kinds of so to speak. Can you say that again? Yeah. Kind of unmuted again there. Yeah, um, just Texas runs a lot of outside zone in their run game.

Running schemes. I just want it's important for defending that kind of play as it is. The tackle. Oh, for a detaquinver, versus a stretch team, um, you always want to talk about penetration, like penetrating the line and not catching, um, because once, you know, you penetrate the stretch, it basically stops the stretch and makes them, you know, cut back to, you know, unblocked players. So really just attacking this game and not catching. Next question is going to come from Dan Hope. Dan, go ahead. I leak you are in a freshman class with Quinn. Now you're playing against him a few years later. Just what's that like for you? Uh, you know, Quinn's my guy. You know, he's a great competitor, great quarterback. I think it'll be fun going against him, you know, trying to get him. Running around. Next question comes from Kurt Bulls. Kurt, go ahead. Yeah, tell me, I don't know if there's one thing you can pinpoint why y'all've been so dominant. I would think maybe it comes a bit under the physical brand of football.

Do you feel that's going to be the survivor in this game? Who's the more physical team? I'll say definitely the more the most violent team, you know, the team that plays the fastest, excuse the most. And you know, exceeds their game plan the most is going to win this game. I found a question will come from Stefan from Cleveland.com. Tyleek, what's kind of your relationship been like with Tyle Hamilton, especially as the season progressed and just how in sync do you feel like you are playing on a defensive line together? Me and Tyle, you know, we've been roommates for the past two years. We live in the same apartment complex. We play the game together. It's really like one of my best friends on the team, and you know, we talk about a lot of football things. So we're really on the same page with a lot of, you know, plays teams like to run against us. And who could be some stunts we've run. We're always, you know, connected in some kind of way. Jerry, back to you.

Great, thanks. You got that. Just a couple more questions. Joy, come up and Columbus this bad. Tyleek, what does it say about your defensive line and how prideful you guys when you can get eight sacks, 13 tackles for loss, that having to bring a ton of extra guys and pressure by using this system forward and do a lot of that? I'll say cool to store our coach, Coach Jay. This is a lot of technique. And, you know, sometimes it doesn't show up because, you know, team scheme you different ways. But when you have a team one dimensional, like they have to pass the ball, that's when all the, you know, the pass rush technique and stuff comes out. And I think we've gotten Tennessee and Oregon to those situations where they had to pass the ball. And, you know, just let us rush free instead of worrying about the run. Does that make sense? You guys just, what do you know is one on one of those pass rush and situations to IOC at so many sacks and TFLs? Yeah, I'll say we're definitely winning way more 101s now. And, you know, they're not keeping as many guys in the box to block us because they have to, you know, they're trying to come back. So, I think it's, like I said, it's just cool to sort of office, you know,

creating these big leads and making teams one dimensional. Before I left, David Bigou has been WCME. Tyleek, we've talked about how better the team has gotten on this two getting off to the fast starts on those sides of the ball. But there has been some scoring late in the first half. Like it's time to see it against Oregon. Has there been renewed emphasis on controlling the middle eight? And how important will that be against Texas? Definitely, you know, that's one of Coach Day's biggest points, you know, controlling the middle eight. You control the middle eight, you like chances are you winning that game goes, you know, skyrockets. So definitely, verse 10 to see Oregon, we gave up touchdowns, you know, lay in, you know, second half. I mean, first half. But, you know, we just got to keep our foot on the gas. We can't let up like at all because these teams we're playing are great teams. Like Texas is a great team, you know, the gray offense, gray offense, the line, gray quarterback, great receivers, great running backs. So, you know, we just got to just keep executing like we know we can and, you know, see how it plays out. Okay, final question for Tyleek here. Tim May, Letterman Rowe. Yeah, Tyleek, you know, Aaron Dome, you used to talk about everybody's hurting at this time of the year.

But when the lights come on and the snap goes, what goes off in a guy like here's my mind. I mean, from the standpoint of making the play, I mean, can you explain that that people don't get to play down in the middle of it all? I would say, you know, like I said, you're right, everybody has hurt around this time, you know, we're, we're 15th week, 14th, you know, deep in the season, you know, you just got to, you just got to show up. That's my mind. So you just got to show up. No matter what I'm going through, I got to make that play. I got to be disruptive, you know, just to help my team out because, when I'm on my A game, you know, everybody else can, you know, feed off of me or we can feed off a like, you know, JT Jack tie. But I said, you know, Coach Mick always says like, nobody cares. Like it's true. Nobody really cares if you're a hurried parent. You just got to go out there and play and make plays. Just a little bit. Explain the drive you have personally to get, to through this next one into the next one. But I know it's one step at a time, but you know, he came back,

et cetera, explained people what's going on in your brain about your motivation. My motivation, you know, we all have our wise, you know, why we're doing things, you know, we have family, you know, family here, our team, our brotherhood. But he's got to, he want to do, you write for your brothers, you know, on this team, you know, we're trying to win the big thing. We're not just, you know, trying to go win two games and lose, we're trying to win the big thing, you know, as long as we stay motivated, stay, you know, humble, don't like, you know, take the rap poison, you know, things like that and just execute and just play our hardest, you know, we'll, that will be fine. Thank you very much. Yes. So that's the houses spring, the big old backs, we've been healthy? Yes, sir, I feel very healthy. Obviously coming off a season and ending injury last year, I feel really good, feeling better than ever, to be honest, even better than I did before the season last year. So it's been a great spring so far. How disappointing was it to get hurt?

Your office at the great start last year. Yeah, I mean, it was, it was a hard time. I mean, it's definitely not easy going through any injury, especially during the season like that. But, you know, it builds character and I think it's good for me in the long term. I also built that for the time of the season. Oh, for sure. Yeah, just all some key pieces come in there and produce at a high level. What do you think, George? George is a stud. Once he gets healthy, he's going to be great. He's working really hard right now and he's going to, he's going to have a great season this year. Personally, how exciting is it for you to be kind of your position now this year? Yeah, it's super exciting. You know, I got a lot better feel for the offense this year. Really good rapport with Hudson and it's been a fun spring so far. So just got to keep keep carrying that on and see where it takes us. Obviously, when you're side blind, you're not playing how important is it to stay like mentally ready and mentally get those reps so that when you come into the spring, you can improve. Definitely. I mean, that's all it is,

really, just mentally envisioning the plays, envisioning making the plays and every night, you know, think about it probably every day so it was a big part of it for sure. I think just understanding the defenses and understanding where the quarterback wants me at a specific time and you know, building that trust with them is huge and I think I've been doing a pretty good job of that. How does that relationship with you and Hudson developing the year two? Yeah, it's developing great. I mean, we have a great friendship off the field so, that helps a lot on the field as well so we have a great connection, both on and off the field and it only helps. Your brother's coming right? Yeah, so you'll be here in May. It'll be a lot of fun. It'll be a lot of fun having him up here. What do you need to see on this team on Saturday? I think just go out there and play hard, limit the mistakes and at the end of the day, it's just being consistent with what we do and playing hard so that's what I want to see for sure.

Oh for sure, I think we're way ahead of last year and I'm excited to see where it takes us. The Biber or the freshman? Yeah, Drew Biber. Yeah, he's getting healthy now. He's looking great. He looked really healthy today and I'm super excited to play with him. He's a lot of fun to play with. Just how quick is this turnaround? You guys just started practicing a couple of weeks ago and now you have spring game to go today? It's pretty quick but I like it a lot so it's fun to get out there and play. I live in D11, put the ball down and go. I mean that's the goal, that's the goal every day. You know that's what I'm reaching for and whether I get it or not, who knows but that's what I'm reaching for every day. There'd be a leader like how he is. I mean he's just unbelievable leader and we all lean on him. He runs this whole team and he knows that. We'll go as far as he goes. Jeremy Birmingham, the podcast. Brandon, we talked a little bit last week just kind of you being becoming one of the emotional leaders

of this team. As you get from walking off the field at halftime upon Wednesday, I have to be down there by the locker room. I was the only person to take photos of you guys down there. It's weird. But everyone looks super nice. We were up 34 to 8 and it looked like you got to down by 26 points. Did you feel something different about the focus at that point of his team or is it just a bit of modernism of what's going on right now because it seemed different? I just think the job wasn't done. We had nothing to be excited about at the moment. You know we were excited there to game more and making a place but at that time at halftime you go back to 0-0. They scored. They scored a thin and a half. We knew they got the ball back. The defense wasn't quite happy that they gave that touchdown at the end and we knew they get in the ball back coming out but we was excited because we knew the job wasn't done yet. Bill Rebellion, Columbus, this back. You were a five star guy and that coming up. All these guys in the room almost were five star

guys and then there's Jeremiah. Is he like all you guys in the room? I mean I'm not sure if it's probably something you got to ask him but you know Jeremiah has played with a lot of great guys throughout his career. He's seen all the talent you can see in the world but I don't know if he's ever in all but I mean you and all. Oh yeah. I mean I'm not surprised at anything he does now. I've seen him since we were nine years old so anything he does any one hand catch I've seen I'm not surprised at anything he does. When he was nine, do you know this is something special we have been that aiming at nine? Oh yeah I mean coaches were coming up to us complaining that we weren't nine years old. Can we get their IDs and stuff like that? So I mean there's definitely some footage that we got to go find but the plays we used to make when we were younger and just to see where he is now is amazing. It seems very unaffected by all

of the starter. How does that happen? I think how he was raised. He's very level-headed. He knows his goals and what he wants to get done in life and this is just one step of the way for him. Can I throw a back to Texas for a couple questions on Zoom, Scotty? Yes sir. We're going to start with Defond from Cleanham.com go ahead. Brandon I want to go back to what you were talking about with Coach Day earlier. You know whenever he talks about this team's success he says all the credit goes through players that seems like the players think that he deserves some of the credit. How big? How influential has he been during the turnaround you guys have had these last few weeks? He's been huge man. Coming here after that team with North Wallace you know it was heartbreaking of course but we came in here we had a leadership meeting and he was in here I mean and then we had a team meeting after that hearing the stuff he had to say and we had to say going back and forth.

We just we knew we we have his back no matter what I mean there's a lot of stuff set about him and his family and stuff like that but hey here we're a brotherhood and we're a family and we just we go stand by him no matter what. Our next question is going to come from Dan Hope. Dan go ahead. Brandon I mean I'm sure you came in here to Ohio State thinking you'd probably be starting here in your second year but it seems like you really embraced the growth process just what's kind of that process been like for you of kind of embracing your role this season and continuing to develop. Yeah um it life things doesn't go the way you exactly planted too and that just did happen um you know things happened to Mecca last year that allowed him to come back and that allowed me to learn more and that's just how I see it makes me a better football player for the future. So yeah I mean yeah let's see it. Three more on zoom next one's going to come from Stefan

means. Go ahead. Steven but yeah you're good. Brandon there are a lot of clips of you this year where you're super super excited after a block and kind of showing your emotion there. What about blocking do you love so much as a receiver? Just being able to hit another guy with all my power the hardest I can without any getting any consequences except if you accept a few hold of course but um yeah just bringing that power I mean I heard some of the defensive guys telling me yesterday there was like bro I hate to go against you so knowing that from the defensive guys um so I know what the other defensive guys are thinking like just keep bringing it to them they they're not going to like it for four quarters that's my mindset. Next question is going to come from Danny Davis. Danny go ahead. Brandon um what are your impressions of these Texas defensive backs and this kind

of we've seen from them on on film stuff? Yeah the last couple days we watched them um their fast team um they don't give up many big plays downfield um they're aggressive but I actually know some of the the debuts they have uh at corner there um I play with them oh well I played with Mollick Muhammad at SFE so I might know him a little bit and um we have a watching them their fast team their physical they're disciplined but we just got to get the job done. Give any Mollick stories or any any what do you think you want to give any Mollick stories or anything you remember about playing with them? Oh um yeah but I'm not going to say them here uh yeah what's this keep that yeah. Our final question is going to come from Kurt Bulls. Kurt go ahead. Hey Brandon uh one of the issues Texas has had the second half of the year is it's finishing and uh what if you can speak to uh and they had a trouble obviously in the peach bowl you know

blue was 16 point league and you talk about finishing and having a killer instinct and and you guys obviously seem to have that now. Yeah um I think that started started in uh offseason training at Fall camp we always say go plus two if if you're doing a 10-yard approach out of do uh you have to go plus two throughout the line and that's just finishing up as well and then Fall camp we had these long two-and-a-half hour practices or what not and then we came out and we had to do these um finishers we called them ask for games late in the year like this and we um I think Coach Day has a great did a great job preparing all of us for these moments and yeah we just were ready to go. We have time for just a couple more questions in Columbus so we can wrap up with our other two guys Bill Landis Kingston the North. Brandon um Tramion's second touchdown run it seemed like you took two players out of the play first with your release and then with the guy you actually blocked is that is that how it's designed? There's just was lucky to the guy decided to take off inside of the release um it's actually

designed for me to block the safety and lead uh the corner 101 with the running back um but I was surprised the corner actually came in so far my least I think he thought it was a pass um but I think he was the edge of the defense if you if you go watch that play but I don't know I don't really know why he came in so far but it helped out for us and I made my block and Trayon off score. Is there any lesson there for like even a young receiver watching that that even if you know in the play you're not getting the ball you're you're intended to block but you your release has to be at all point like as if you're gonna go pitch pass. Yeah definitely um every little detail matters and then type of plays we were in a red zone there so we say every hour matters it's two yards um so the block I made is just a testament to Kyle coach hardline prep me throughout the week to make that block. And final question, Joy Confident Columbus this match. Brandon Will and then there's been some of the ball deep well lately um some of some of the special way you guys have opened games what do you think is this clip for you guys

and for him and watching those plays? A lot more confidence I say throughout the year um we were always there as offense we had we didn't know we didn't quite know our identity and now slowly but surely I think we found that and we're gonna keep on rolling and um he's made some great throws and yeah. I'm sorry Brandon I do have one more steep that way into the 24-7 sport. You've been in different opportunities for you to play a huge role on offense and you know the number of plays you play in game can differ from one week to the next but the opportunity is coming sooner rather than later for you to be in every down player just what are the things you need to do in your game to take it from where it is now to be in every down guy? I think there's a lot of things I could work on in my game um I would say continuing to be football smart by IQ just knowing what the defense is gonna do before they do it um about routes always can get better my hands always can get better staying in the jugging machine um

work ethic keep on top of it don't get don't get satisfied with anything I do and don't don't get too big don't get too low don't get too high don't get too low is what they say you feel like a guy that the people follow it seems like just in your mind even the just second your guy that you're kind of working toward being kind of a leadership type guy. Yeah um I got but to have guys that will take that role yeah um it's a great feeling of course no guys are watching what you do and listen to what you do um but I just feel like we do that with a lot of players here and not just myself but um the leadership we have on this team is like no other and that's why we got so far I think Brandon thank you very much Trabia what's it to you about the possibility of going into this season for you with your step ups I mean it means that they can happen really soon yeah I mean I guess you just got to learn everything slowly of course there's a lot to learn um

but I got a lot of hope so because at a very unique experience I'll be early and rollies you got a chance to go to you know set my final some of you went to the Rose Bowl there's nothing caught in the national championship game what was like what was that like how much do you think that helped you oh that was a credit we just see how other leaders led in that position and just seeing what they did and how they prepared I just hope a lot with everybody what was the highlight of that that time other than winning the national championship itself was there's something that stands out to it oh just being able to uh trouble and get to meet up everybody meet all the players um everybody I won an ad in meet all uh alien rollies that earn I was really just living my own you gotta be independent um that's pretty much it I mean of course there's adjustment but I'm getting the justice for you uh yes your money

it's 100% I mean of course it's hard to miss my senior last year kind of with some of my best friends right oh really it says I was uh baby my best I got my master like once I was born okay forever uh my dad looked up to me and I'm a junior so I'm a good guy here I think you said you're first name in the heart right yeah okay so could wear eight two you got two choices

uh it's a desire that can be addicted for people you know I think I fell into that no way younger age but super bud that's not I watch the lab last time you started a landman on the planet download it it's a great show what you think of it uh but I don't know that this this wife seems like I don't know how he handles it it's a good show good I was surprised honestly he seemed like he knew what he was doing so you put a question you say you pay your mom a salary yes wind it all just mom gonna pay raise or uh I don't know what to talk about that just to have a meeting or something

take a seat over here now so everybody's not going to have to be about to charge yeah well let me first off I think I'd be doing a disservice to to my teammates uh you know me even think about what's next this you know what's right in front of us is an overuse and that's another thing we got to tell me so much grew is just being present in every single moment that I'm in you know not looking too far ahead because I'm tripping on what's right in front of me so again I just that's too so I'm sure of thank you for meeting if you think about what's next there you're at least aware that there's a lot of speculation out there that people are going to throw huge numbers to do to go and before all the things in the season I mean right now I'm just not worried about all that stuff I mean

people can say all they want to say but you know I'm just focused on focus on Friday nervous I mean I I still get nervous for sure but I just don't think I think I'm doing a good job just understanding that that moment whatever moment it is that I'm nervous about it doesn't define who I am as a person and it doesn't define who I am and God's eyes and understanding and knowing that has just kind of put like this force field of peace around me that nothing able allows me to be able to be called in certain situations but it doesn't that's not good I mean I just love the game so much and if you don't get nervous or a little bit of work but because I don't think you you have that same love I mean I've got butterflies since you know going into football games since oh it's you know five six years old so I don't know what that

you know football just doesn't mean as much as it did to me back then I want to tell you I've been told really playing as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been going out of it because he was hurt now he's running you know almost a second man up behind you and tied what have you seen in the games right now? Well as a workhorse he he goes stay quiet he going work hard and that's all I love about him he focuses he don't really talk much he's going to get the job done do a job right really has any mistakes what would be a successful season a national championship ring win all the games we don't

want to lose anything we got a mindset that we can't be beat and we just got to go show it it seems like you guys expect the national championship every year this year even more so you guys have all come back for this you guys have all decided like enough as well to keep feeling different or is there not really any difference it's just the same work? it's definitely a difference everyone working harder we noticed our last run like we most of us don't have any years after this so we got to go go bigger go home then we not try to go finish big we know what you guys think of Michigan but when you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys took them down to the final minute right you know what I mean I mean you you were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that came against them does that tell you anything about like that hey you guys want to win a national championship but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close so I'm saying we just like work harder that's

that's kind of coach makes of saying you know nobody cares just work harder like those you know when we played Georgia it's the same thing last last play you know they went on the win in 90 so we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season I think we'll be fine how frustrating is that you're that close against the last two national title? uh of course as you know it's frustrating but you can't change the outcome you can't really do do it on it you just gotta you know come back and work harder do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older you kind of learned I thought that was working hard but then you always find out there's a little more you could have been doing yeah definitely I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college and I thought freshman year I was working it's hard as I could but now I look back at it I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now so just to learn anything. What do you need it to be to be your best? uh 85 80 85 I mean I can it's all on me I just I think it's a little higher I was just

trying to be funny but I mean it's all on me I just gotta run harder in shape. the idea of a potential is I think I think we I definitely can lie. I was just you know we got to get the young guys to come along with us we can't play 50 snaps again that's just too much on our bodies uh just everybody like online D-line we gotta get those younger guys to play you know get debt pieces on the D-line and online and everywhere else so we can last that long run. Speaking of life plan that you snapped again last year because I don't know if any of us were really expected to play that next time. uh yeah I did unless we were like winning by like a line uh I thought like Darnel's mom is you not gonna sit down or something but we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame's team in North those kind of games I of course I want to be because I know I can

contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald is he got a team of you guys in a second? Oh yeah definitely K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal y'all you haven't really seen the yet but in practice he shows all the time he's just he's just he's growing right now he has to work at the thing he just has to get you know in the playbook and things like that. You guys are about the exact same size you're both listening to six degree you're three 27 he's three 26. Yeah he's I kind of look at him like my my junior but you know K-Mac he's gonna be a great player he's got to develop more and get into playbook. So really a lot on you older guys there's that large group of young guys and then there's the senior in the back as part of your task for this year to bring those guys. Yeah definitely we got to be leaders um like I say we got to have them play this year we can't just play all the snaps they got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right during the all season so they can play and not just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackle six.

Yeah they're definitely some big dudes um and they all work hard I've only seen much of some of the day two when I'm not passing on but throughout the workouts they've been working hard you know they they're determined to have to say that and it looks like they're ready to work if you. I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last uh a couple of nice and matured games and winners uh like team of North they didn't know they got two good uh detaco two athletic detacles look at Georgia two athletic detacles so I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big run that beat those big teams. Wait if you think about this they're going to find by the defense attackers like what's Georgia Jordan Davis and Daniel Carter let's miss again it's Chris Jenkins.

I mean you understand because you play it but I feel like some time I don't know are people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to. I think so uh I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakish detacles yeah like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving forward to four seven eights and things like that so we'll see and when you think it when you think about those freakish attackers how do you think you fit into that mold of that kind of player and you watch that to say yeah that's me. Uh yeah definitely I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacles but I don't want to you know get a big head but you know watch it come on I watch it do do the drills. I have tape here you like you're looking like my film so I think I'm up there with all those times. Do you become like a artist that comes into bad young passes the figure wags have your claims? I mean you're going to break practices you're not doing as much a weapon on the line I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that but I think he said it on the line.

I think they can count some of them and it's some of them where I like just missed it so but I think we work on drills matching the hand I think that's uh goes big and uh what we do is a D line you know just affecting the quarterback is anywhere you can it's just great for the defense you know just that little thing covering his eye you know he might throw it a little bit to the left or our player so. So it's something that you really really have to work on. You can do that with what you can do. It's steering that's one of the things that you've maybe worked on the most. You can bring your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen like oh that pastor takes a day and we don't have to ask for this trial. I don't know if we're kind of kind of expected for this one. I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball kind of I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him like load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he throws it to me. I mean they get frustrated but you know we're a team you know we're just getting better. I should lot of a lot of different backs man and just learn and grow for them.

If you want to pick your top three backs you have to go right now. I don't really have a top three but I'll give you I'll give you one. I would say say Juan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey. Although he was injured this year I like McCaffrey. Best back in this draft I'll lead that up the yard that's y'all that's y'all decision. Playing with howard when I'm going to remember most. We're a Howard man he's just such a great lead such a great leader man. It's just like in moments where you know usually a lot of players they fold man he was just always calm and relaxed man he just the leader that he was man that's one thing I'm going to remember about him. Yeah he's shoot he's going to be really good man he's on Coastal lock I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia just that one two punch with

them both as well they're going to be really good backs and so James people's man he's smart the way that he goes about his business man he's mature and so man he's growing you know just as a person in as a player and so man yeah definitely Ohio State you know that running back from his engravings. Yeah coach Coach Hartline man he's full of energy man and he's creative as well you know I'm just learning from him as well you know I'm trying to run more outside the backfield was being able to learn from coach Hartline and so he's definitely creative at what he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well and so I think that would do really good. That's what you want to say to us. Um just intensity man and since he did other playoffs um every game and it's like the intensity got you know higher and higher and so you know being able I know in the lead it's the same thing even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and intensity it keeps getting higher and higher

and so yeah you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State you know I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that you know I just remember even before going through this process I'll I'll talk to a lot of players um before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them you know for the NFL and so yeah yeah I know I took a couple days off after the um national championship and then shoot right after that I'm writing right in sample Florida and I'm right to it and so um yeah I think while trained I trained at um your birth performance um I think it's called the House of Athlete or the Compound now um they they did they did a good job man it just um bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man they were they did a really good job the bucket near know I haven't Tampa Tampa nice this is nice this is a nice city man really nice

yeah uh the 40 to broad and avert yeah uh yeah no man uh it's really all about technique and then it's about mine said as well and so um I say you know it's for the love of my brother it's for the love of will highway it's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter just making sure you know um first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked um and I I told will I think it was before the first game I was like I got your brother it's uh I said man I'm not gonna let you get hit you know um and so um I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man it's for the love of my brother's though man making sure the ball get in their hands you know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed

in my game uh you can't really work on this you know in all season I feel like it's more so you know you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run you know maybe uh it's really just continuing to run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game you know I want to continue to get better at I feel like I did a good job at that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that yes I did yes I did uh I did meet with um new Orleans as well um I never got that comparison actually um I know I'm a Camera shoe yeah man I've come here great great back man um just what he does and those 101 matchups he's dangerous man and he's so smooth he's so smooth as well I'm not going to lie he's smooth yeah um inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing down hill and um I'll say the next one it's probably just an option route out of the backfield you know

and man and man coverage you're getting on that linebacker and so yeah I say the man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man in the way that man um he approaches the game he comes in with the mindset you know he's going to work every single week you know every practice you know he's working hard you know um even shoot I don't know every good I think he had every game was a good game for him man and so but still man he always has the mentality the mindset that you know he's going to come in each and every day he's going to continue to work and get better man and so he's definitely man he's going to be a special player man he really is man uh a lot of ups and downs man it's just how you respond to adversity and I feel like that's

something that God has definitely helped me to do better is this um not have something to lean on now you know I remember before I met him you know going through those adversity I had nothing run to you know you can run to people but they still can't it's not too much they can't truly help you you know I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ and so being able to lean on him you know he gives you in those moments where it's tough you know where it's low and um when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about um he gives you he gives you that peace and comfort you know um even in those moments man where it's so hard that you can't you can't explain it's like man I'm going through this but like how am I still filled with this internal joy you know how do I have so much peace in this situation and so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so

man those guys have such a great mentality man I might just really love their mentality especially Q as well you know I talked about will Howard his leadership but Quinch on mentality man um that boy just yeah that boy just gifted you know you see you know sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like you know he should have a negative five yards and as soon as you know it you know he that running through somebody still forming somebody and shoot it's a gain of 10 it's uh yeah man I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest he's just gifted you know he's he's a big back you know he's strong and so um you know he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um yeah man it's definitely you know I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quinch on you know I want to look at this game is like man where where can I get better at as well you know that's the type of player I am I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player

Julian San oh yeah he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man he's so so accurate and so um he's definitely man I know Coach Dez definitely going to get him right just you know um container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going he's going to be really good for high state uh he's that I know just the quarterback position um I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask Julian San as well it's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead the offense and lead the steam sure man he has he has a build like JK Dobbins and um I kind of see them you know similar similarities in their game as well and I know JK Dobbins he was a great running back I feel like he's not talked about his now um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great I remember um before I recruit before I committee here I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every every um one of his years here like four or five times and so

man he was such a great back and um I feel like you know um when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games I feel like they play the same and so I appreciate you all yeah I'll be going

yeah oh like I got coming in last shot new to roll so I just attack every day really the same way it's a very physically very physically how different are you weight wise body wise on that from the year oh I think I got a lot bigger I'm like 240 you know like 244 right now last shot I played it like 236 to 37 what does it feel like a 244 or a belly you feel like a almost a different machine out there yeah like what does it what does it feel like be running around out there like you are but with more more bands I just feel like I'm like like like like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all blocks better it's a big no is it daunting uh maybe that's not

the correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year and you played quite a bit last year instead what do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more this is gotta get ready to just play 30 more snaps so how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8 stand point yeah I'm looking forward to it I'm ready for it my I'm ready for it it's not really two different teams compared to the ones I'm gonna play this stuff how's that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the where an opener of that magnitude yeah with an opener like that we've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot we know we got coming so we know we gotta do we've been prepared for it I already just probably worked it I think Riley ready to play right now he he advanced freshman like he ended he in the book he stood in like he advanced and his measurements is crazy like he saw like the saw line too or like you said you're ready like you know you're ready what was

that process like during last season could you feel yourself becoming more and more ready yeah because that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up so I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say ready is it more a physical thing is it a mental thing when I say ready I think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly I think I'm there oh that's the one more time how different is that responsibility oh I feel like it's uh it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year but I kind of go about it the same way like last year I was attention over everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing it's probably a little bit more somebody who's some reason they were saying this guy I was doing this guy

and what were I say describe like now I say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bully like a silver bullet I don't really a bully I'm always on the ball that's how I like to play and think no I ain't ain't gotta be my nickname but oh yeah yeah I mean how does that fit you and what are you going to do about playing in that kind of style um think it fit me because I don't know I just like the defense I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we moving around a lot a lot of the terms is like no I don't know I don't really not answer that that's okay does it you can go on your instincts a little bit more baby it's not so thinking of too much I don't even know if I say that because there's a

lot of thinking going on but it's like I just like it's deep I like how the pressure deep is I like what you got going on now I want to my sad I was kind of like happy for you yeah that's what you want no no that's my dog I'm gonna say yeah kind of missing a little bit but yeah I'm happy for you though I don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys can win your own yeah how much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year but will be in this bigger role and I want to sum your your classmate yeah I do feel like um yeah I do feel like I did win a nadi ladship but like you said my role wasn't same as how's my beaters here so yeah I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling maybe on the field a lot more place I said great oh well thank you very much I've been using you you know that almost that safety row

of stuff how much is it grown uh that you can put your finger on yeah I was growing immensely I mean uh Caleb he makes a lot of checks late then makes a lot of checks uh I listen to them uh whatever they need if I need to cover somebody out I'll go cover anybody if they need me to uh do run support I'll do run support and it's really uh what Caleb does what we do and lathe and it just goes back to the coach G's preparation um and everyone's preparation to give us more flexibility and doesn't matter who's in those positions and we can all play every position whether it's covering somebody or running running and tackling yeah did you feel like that was the case before the Oregon game you're showing up Sammy is it something's been added uh it just you know rely on a little bit more go ahead yeah it did I've probably been a broska game uh me getting more safety reps and we had a five week to prepare so I really learned to play but a lot more even though I knew the playbook I learned a lot more it amounted like in debt you know so uh really just after the Oregon game it helped me a lot to go back to safety go go to nico and everywhere you guys had a lot of issues

of giving up big plays in the passing game of the first game against Oregon what do you feel like you guys need to do better this time around just to make sure that doesn't happen uh just the same same mindset we got to challenge these receivers um you know every dog has their day maybe some people didn't have their day that that game but um we'll look out there and hopefully change the narrative and we still play with the same confidence same technique and yeah they'll remain with Columbus this batch and Denzel obviously had a tough game and that one what have you seen from him and how he's responded do you get a sense of from him how he is for this rematch oh yeah he's super stoked for this rematch um his preparation has been very good um he's always been preparing even though it didn't go the way he wanted to go that game but he just always had had his confidence and we're gonna see a big game out of him uh this week and you know I know you guys wanted to play them in Indianapolis um but the fact that you get to play them at the Rose Bowl I mean get a second chance

and people have said he don't get that very often how determined are you guys to take advantage of uh we're super super determined uh we watch film I mean we've lost a lot of film the first time we play them now we've got another six games that they played of film to watch and it's just they've grown a lot as a team same as us we've grown a lot we're not the same team we were when we play them week one or weeks six or whatever but now we're out there and going to play fast physical and everything like that all right Jordan we're gonna jump to the to assume a question here from Joey Kaufman Columbus this match oh my bad not you Joey Cameron T. Robinson the athletic hey it's Jordan um you've moved around a lot in the second day I knew in your career and now kind of getting some many more safety reps what is it like at this point when when Walt or our coach knows comes to you and asks you to do some else and it's just how much can you lean on the experiences you've had moving around when you're trying to learn something new in the middle of the season uh means a lot we always talk about this is being on selfish uh whether that's

making plays or not making plays or doing your job so another person can make plays that's kind of what we pride ourselves on and it's just fun me moving around different positions uh I'm always up for a new challenge and a lot of people in the country can't do that I just hold myself to that standard where I can play any position and excel at it okay uh if anybody else needs a question let me know but otherwise we're gonna go to Austin more of the podcast Jordan when you were talking about watching film Oregon which one do you think is more valuable to you watching that against yourself you know seven games ago even if you've changed or the ensuing six games for Oregon which one do you put more stock in uh kind of both for me uh I kind of watch what I did things I did well things I didn't do too well against them and their team is that like their scheme has changed some players have been out uh those those stretch of games so uh I really watched the past game we played and I know they're gonna go back to some of the stuff that they liked of course and different

games like Penn State maybe Illinois they run a lot of men so just watching watching stuff like that every game matters so yeah Jordan thank you very much thank you we plan as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've was a workhorse he he gonna stay quiet you gonna work hard and that's what I love about him he focuses he don't really talk much he's gonna get the job done do a job right rarely has any mistakes so what what would be a successful season uh a national championship by ring when all the games we don't want to lose anything uh we got a mindset that we can't be beat and which you gotta go show it

this year even more so you guys have all come back for this you guys have all decided like enough is enough is that is it's keep feeling difference or is there not really any difference it's just the same word uh it's definitely a difference everyone working harder um we noticed our last run like we most of us don't have any years after this so we gotta go go bigger going home and we not trying to go home finish big we know what you guys think of Michigan but when you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys took them down to the final minute right you know what I mean I mean you you were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that came against them does that tell you anything about like that hey you guys want to win a national championship but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close so I'm saying uh we just didn't like work harder that's that's kind of coach makes uh saying you know nobody cares just work harder like those you know we'll play Georgia it's the same thing uh last last play you know they went on the win the 90s so we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season I

think would be fine how frustrating is that you're that close against the last two national title uh of course as you know it's frustrating but you can't change the outcome you can't really do I don't uh dwell on it you just gotta you know come back and work harder do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change as that as you get older you can learn I thought I was working hard and you always find out there's a little more you could have been doing yeah definitely I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college I thought French me I was working it's hard as I could but now I look back at it I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now so just to learn anything uh 80 85 I mean I can it's all on me I just I think it's a little higher I was just trying to be funny but I mean it's all on me I just got to run harder in shape

I think I think I definitely can rise I was just you know we got to get the young guys to come along with us we can't play 50 snaps again that's just too much on our bodies uh just everybody like online D line we gotta get those younger guys to play you know get that pieces on the D line and online and everywhere else so we can last that uh yeah I did unless we were like winning by like a lot uh I thought like there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something but we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame too or North those kind of games I of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald is he got a team of you guys in this second year? Oh yeah definitely K-Mac is a K-Mac animal y'all you haven't really seen it yet but in practice he shows all the time he's just he's just he's growing right now he has to work I think he just has to

get you know in a playbook things like that you guys are about the exact same size you're both listening to six three you're three 27 he's three 26 yeah he's I kind of look at him like my my junior but you know K-Mac he's gonna be a great player he's got to develop more and get into playbook so really a lot on you older guys there's that large group of young guys and then they've seen you're in the back is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys yeah definitely we got to be leaders um like I say we got to have them play this year we can't just play all the snaps they got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right there in all season so they can play and not just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackles sex yeah they're definitely some big dudes um and they all work hard I've really seen much it's only day two I'm not a bad one but throughout the workouts they've been

working hard you know they they're determined to have to say that and it looks like they're ready to work with me how important this notes feels like there's a lot of great defenses that you have big athletic defense attacks who can eat up space but also move you know right there is that because I have an inquire maybe from a great defense to have guys like you that have some fault but also a great secret I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last uh couple of national championship winners uh like seem up north they didn't know they got two good uh detacled two athletic detacles look at Georgia two athletic detacles uh I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big line and beat those big teams. Well if you think about that they're almost defied by the defense attackers like what's Georgia's Jordan Davis and Daniel Carter and what's Michigan it's Chris Jenkins. Tell them more questions. I mean you understand it because you play it but I feel like some time I don't know are people

realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to. I think so uh I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakish detacles yeah like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that so we'll see and when you think it when you think about those freakish athletic defense attacks how do you think you fit into that mold of that kind of player. Will you watch that and say yeah that's me. Uh yeah definitely I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacles but I don't want to you know get a big head but you know I watch it come on I watch it do do the drills. I have a tape here you like you're looking like my film so I think I'm up there. Well you become like a artist that does pass this uh figure way is kind of your thing. I mean when you're going you're not doing a bunch of leather or leather. How do you work on that? Do you have like a gold one? I don't remember how many you have last year but you have a gold one. How many do you want to have? I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that but I think he's

accounting. He said it. I think he's accounting some of them and it's some of them where I like just missed it so but I think we work on drills matching the hand I think that's uh goes big and uh what we do is a D line you know just affecting the quarter of that is anyway you can it's just great for the defense you know just that little thing you cover it is I you know he might throw it a little bit to the left to our players so so let's something that you really really have to work on. You can do that with what you can do. It's a experience that's one of the things that you can maybe work on the most in your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen like oh that passed me down. It takes a day and we don't have to ask this style. I don't know if we're kind of kind of expected for something that's working. I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball comment. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him I load up I just try to get in his way and sometimes he's throws it to me. I don't know how your advantage is if you want to be a high state quarterback. You're a bad dumb pass. I mean they get frustrated by you know we're a team you know we're just good. Yeah. That's a lot of a lot of different backs man they just learn to grow for them.

If you got to pick your top three backs you have a ball right now hold your two. I don't really have a top three but I'll give you I'll give you one. I would say, say Juan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey. Although he was injured this year I like McCaffrey. I appreciate it. Who's the best back in this draft? Best back in this draft. I'll lead that up to y'all that's y'all decision. Playing well Howard but I'm going to remember most. We're a Howard man. He's just such a great leader. Such a great leader man. It's just like in moments where you know usually a lot of players they fold man. He was just always calm and relaxed man. He just the leader that he was man that's one thing I'm going to remember about him. Yeah he's shoot. He's going to be really good man. He's on Coach Lock. I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia.

Just that one two punch with them both as well. They're going to be really good backs. And so James people is man. He's smart the way that he goes about his business man. He's mature and so man he's growing you know just as a person in as a player. And so man yeah definitely Ohio State you know that running back room is in great hands. Yeah coach Coach Hartline man. He's full of energy man and he's creative as well. You know I'm just learning from him as well you know I'm trying to run more outside the backfield. It was being able to learn from coach Hartline and so he's definitely creative at what he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so I think that would do really good. Just intensity man then. Tensity to other playoffs. Every game man is like the intensity got you know higher and higher. And so you know being able I know in the lead it's the same thing. Even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and intensity it keeps getting higher and higher.

And so yeah you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State you know I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that you know I just remember even before going through this process how I'll talk to a lot of players before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them you know for the NFL and so yeah. Yeah yeah I know I took a couple days off after the national championship and then shoot right after that I'm writing right in sample Florida and I'm right to it and so yeah I think while trained I trained at your birth performance I think it's called the House of Athlete or the Compound now they did they did a good job man it just bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man they really did a really good job. I mean now when you play in the air the bucket in the air you know I haven't Temple a temple nice this is nice it's a nice city man really nice

uh the 40 to broaden avert you yeah yeah no man uh it's really all about technique and then it's about mine said as well and so um I say you know it's for the love of my brother it's for the love of will highway it's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter just making sure you know first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked and I I told will I think it was before the first game I was like I got your brother it's uh I said man I'm not gonna let you get hit you know um and so I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man it's for the love of my brother's though man making sure that the ball get in their hands you know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed in my game uh you can't really work on this you know in all season I feel like it's more so

you know you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run you know maybe uh it's really just continuing to run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game you know I want to continue to get better I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that yes I did yes I did I did me with new Orleans as well um I never got that comparison actually um I know I know Camera shoot yeah man I have a Camera great great back man um just what he does and those 101 matchups he's dangerous man and he's so smooth he's so smooth as well I'm not going to be like he's smooth yeah um inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing downhill and I'll say the next one is probably just an option route out of the backfield you know

and man and man coverage you're getting on that linebacker and so yeah I say the man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man in the way that man um he approaches the game he comes in with the monster you know he's going to work every single week you know every practice you know he's working hard you know um even shoot I don't know every good I think he had it every game was a good game for him man and so but still man he always has the mentality the monster that you know he's going to come in each and every day he's going to continue to work and get better man and so he's definitely man he's going to be a special player man he really is man man a lot of ups and downs man it's just how you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better

is this um not have something to lean on now you know I remember before I met him you know going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know you can run to people but they still can't it's not too much they can't truly help you you know I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ and so being able to lean on him you know he gives you in those moments where it's tough you know where it's slow and um when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about um he gives you he gives you that peace and comfort you know um even in those moments man where it's so hard that you can't you can't explain it's like man I'm going through this but like how am I still feel with this internal joy you know how do I have so much peace in this situation and so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so which aspect do you do those other individuals that you run to the problem and from being around power to him um man eight those guys have such a great mentality man I might just really love

their mentality especially um Q as well you know I talked about will Howard his leadership but Quinchiam mentality man um that boy just yeah that boy just gifted you know you see you know sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like you know he should have a negative five yards and as soon as you know it you know he the running through somebody step on somebody and shoot this again to 10 it's uh yeah man I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest he's just gifted you know he's he's a big back you know he's strong and so um you know he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um yeah man it's definitely you know I look at this game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quinchiam you know I want to look at this game is like man where where can I get better at as well you know that's the type of player I am I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian San oh yeah he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man he's so

so accurate and so um he's definitely man I know Coach Dez definitely going to get him right just you know um container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going he's going to be really good for high state uh he's that I know just the quarterback position um I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask him Julian San as well it's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead the offense and lead the steam shoot man he has he has a build like JK Dobbins and um I kind of see them you know similar similarities in their game as well and I know JK Dobbins he was a great running back I feel like he's not talked about his now um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great I remember um before I recruit before I committee here I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man he was such a great

back and um I feel like you know um when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games I feel like they play the same and so I appreciate you all

well I got coming in last shot I knew the road so I just attacked every day really the same way it's a really very rare physically different are you weight wise body wise on that from your um I think I got a lot bigger I'm like 240 you know like 244 right now last shot I played it like 236 to 37 what does it feel like a 244 or a belt you feel like almost a different machine out there yeah yeah what's it what does it feel like to be running around out there like you are but with more and more back I just feel like I'm like like like like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all blocks better it's bigger no is it don't think uh maybe that's not the correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year and you played quite a bit last year instead what do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more this is got to get ready to just play 30 more snaps so but are you are you how would you

describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8th and a half yeah I'm looking forward to it I'm ready for it my I'm ready for it I think the text is open it's a rematch and so to say but it's not really two different teams compared to the last time you all played and stuff how's that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for like we're an opener of that magnitude yeah with an opener like that we've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot we know we got coming so we know we got to do we've been prepared for it I think Riley ready to prepare right now he he advanced freshman like he ended he ended up he stood in like he advanced and his measurements is crazy like he saw like the saw line to him I said you're ready right what was that process like during last season could you feel yourself becoming more and more ready to go wherever the team needed for me yeah because that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up so I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say

ready is it more a physical thing is it a mental thing when I say ready I think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly I think I'm there a different is that feeling this year I still one more time how difficult is that responsibility I feel like it's uh it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year but I kind of go about it the same way like last year I was attention over everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing it's probably a little bit more uh it won't work I say describe like now I say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bully like a

silver bullet I don't really a bullet I'm always on the ball that's how I like to play a thing you know I ain't got to be my nickname but oh yeah yeah yeah um think it fit me because I don't know I just like the defense I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom man we moving around a lot a lot of the terms is like no I don't know I don't really not answer that that's okay does it you get to go on your instincts a little bit more maybe it's not so thinking of too much I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on but it's like I just like it's different I like how different it's different I like what you got going on uh now I want to be too much sad I was kind of like happy for you

yeah that's what you want no no that's my dog I'm gonna say yeah kind of missing a little bit but yeah I'm happy for you though I don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys know when you're out yeah how much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year but will be in this bigger role and I wanted to some year your classmate yeah I do feel like um yeah I do feel like I did one in that elatio but like you said my role wasn't same as how's gonna be this year so yeah I definitely want to want to go get another one experience that like feeling with me be on the field a lot more place it's great oh well thank you very much I'm still sometimes like basketball I want to be on that just like defend but you know I got to stay in the stage wearing some clothes yeah

yeah that's a very question I mean I don't think I feel like these two can answer that for the beer I know I think KK and Nero can answer that well I don't know what I don't know what to say about that what do you guys say and it's strong right it I'm talking about like you get the basketball here like you know you can just do it this time more people kind of really fast but just the overall shape it's and he got the grip right he doesn't give up on the playing like you said he's gonna go in there and watch the film he's doing it every day with the better man just see the 100 feet of my foot from like this one so now that's not considered a good one at the game here if you just follow us around all the men sound like a coach man sound like a coach chip Kelly's in full exchange your mind about maybe like the idea of tackle versus guard because obviously his offensive predilection is for like yeah the offensive line play room game as you can apart from you settling in the guard that's um I

would I want to say maybe I don't know but I mean when I when I'm for sure you got the job I was really excited because I'm one of those guys who's the tempo I can run with the tempo you know me and I'm I'm playing basketball all life in set of football and I feel like just the fast pace off and so we're running really fits the guys we have right now I'm really excited for that I know you can throw a football exercise you can kick a football 75 yards like Lincoln no probably question Lincoln what's your question how is your your roommate I can be he's a blessing man I can't find he's a great guy what's his name's Lincoln keen hoes oh he's cleaner I think we're both really clean that's why we kind of take each other's roommates because we're very clean and we don't like our words really messy well it's true though it's the truth they're both pretty clean so are you still a cross-training at tackle some or if you just been all guard this time oh so far I've been all-dark I really don't know like I said I'm taking it practice I practice I could end up

being back at tackle I could not but no I'm just really focused in on this past practice and the next one yeah well that mean a lot you know you put a lot of work in to play here it's been a dream just for being in Ohio kid is I'm from Ohio kids perspective it's I mean that's the biggest wish possible I would as I would say that's it'd be pretty cool what was it like just lots of your first game getting on the field it didn't like this can be a weird answer but it feel like I was playing a game yet that makes sense I did I was pretty locked in I felt like just no anxiousness no stress no nothing really I just went in that first game was like shoot out here now it's time to roll you know it didn't really hit me I was like it didn't even hit me after but my mom was like what'd you feel there and if like getting out there in the end I just like honestly I don't know I felt less nervous I didn't ice go and I had makes no sense what is it what do you think about this guy

um a lot I mean I'm learning from Josh and Austin I think prior to one of my biggest role models here is my bigger big brother my first game so I'm a padea okay yeah no yeah yeah so yeah padea and Austin those are my guys man I mean even miles to I mean all three of them that's those are my roommates then they're progressing every day as well on and I'm excited to see where where they can get to I'm excited to play in the field with them oh yeah you know it's been really helpful you know just keep in my mind just settled and straightforward on the next play it's a great question um like I said I mean I just need to say consistent in my word I think that's the biggest thing for me is just ain't consistent worry about the next play so you got it from the guy you were in the play yeah wow that's weird yeah that's mean I guess they didn't want to get my nerves up but like I was ready I mean I did I took most of the ones perhaps all camping I mean I was already I was pretty much it yeah I wasn't really nervous

to start the game yeah what was his advice to you yeah he said you got it you mean you're going against i-league and Kyle every day and practice me and this is not different almost different or you now both do we tend to get two starts in the game as a as a player you know having having that under your belt um me I'm more confident I know what's going on I can see like I can see what's going on with the defense I know what's going on I know what's coming I mean I understand the game's a lot better than what it was like yeah which adds up to what fast the car yeah yeah playing with that dust for a while I mean if we get out early it's to get the defense change in place it like it changes their defense you start fast I mean they're trying to get the call in the play but you start faster I'm not gonna back you or touch a lot touch on yeah of course they isn't pretty much said though you deserve the play man you know let's come forward with what were you expecting this week in terms of your role um wherever they need me if it's left right wherever it's I didn't go in I'd go in a box to do the front of me

I'm like playing tackle um took me back to high school days but I should back at high school I wasn't really random ball up really and doing passes but it was fun change you got my made my feet better I would say how confident you feel like you could play there if they want me there I guess I'll play there I mean they need me they need me also in the illness that swept through the office of the line room a lot of times coaches and players just said like I was still relying for the groom you know getting you experience among others what was that like for you and double dipping playing some tag or playing some guard the same practice it was that um it was based like a group effort like for me know we had guys out and we just had to go back practice um all five guys there's wherever they were playing we just got to go you know how much of that accelerate your development like that time with the ones you were actually getting they really said it did um I was jumped in there I didn't really know we like one or two practices

with practices but like after those I was like you're out of good you're my confidence grew yeah it seemed like there was sort of a settling in process for you and the Akron game maybe play got better if the game went on it and really need to especially in the ground game things to take on but was there a moment when it clicked on the field for you like was there nerves and then a time of settling in I guess how take me through kind of that first game mentally yeah um first game obviously you're gonna have nerves for your first time starter but then like after the first couple plays meaning you have nerves naturally so that's first complete I was good I was just rolling also there's a weird name for a first time a prior player I was saying it was also the first start yeah um you yeah it's but like I prepared well and camp and practice all week and I was I was ready um yeah I have two multi-year starters I did a lot I mean I couldn't ask them hey what we got here but I was prepared well I mean

I was telling Jimmy and says like hey we play our blocks we're happy emotional excited it was just as a guide from Ohio what does it mean to start a game um it was always my dream to come here and play and start and having that like me I actually like keep going keep building those days and those games and keep building what a much younger Austin though you know I don't think even I told like me I asked my younger self even committing I wouldn't believe that now I have a couple of starts yeah awesome has this happened faster than you I guess you're technically a sophomore and play as a richer question no I knew that year two I was gonna see you some playing time now starting week one year two I didn't see that but like I was ready didn't spring ball like I knew I was going I was going to play some something but what does it mean to you to it's not only get the

opportunities in the play but like you play well enough now coaching staff trust you if they put it out there whatever the situation goes if they earn that so early on the year two um I guess it shows like my preparation my hard work and just everything I put into this and I just finally showing up on a field there are moments the top season in the end of the spring and you can't really realize that you could play at this high level with the ones you know if you need to yeah uh the definitely was in training camp I mean blocking highly can tie every day like it feels it feels a lot of confidence in doing it well and not like getting balled or anything so there's defensive tag wasn't that I was the guy that you did most of them uh hero in uh Jason Moran Taiwan all those guys pretty much anyone on the deepened line gets your face all the time so and Kay and Mag is well so yeah he put a lot of my work like the power of the ability and the greatest in the world how much can he help you

he helped me a quite a lot and I'm proud that he's our starting center not someone else he's but um I mean he's like the captain of the line he's another voice on the line with guys like Josh Fryer and Josh Simmons Donnie and Tiger that means another voice and another captain on the look ways of having the men are with this much experience help you're in the middle of the line man a lot he can tell you like before the play was going on like how to block someone like what you need to do and like helps a lot Tiger talking about how calm he is how much does that fit in between you have a guy who's kind of been there and seeing the line it makes us us more calm like especially me and Hay has our first start so like we were up here what what Seth like he brought us down and we were like fine like our emotions weren't high we settled in is that like something he tells you is that something you pick up on by

how he's acting how do you kind of mean sense what he's trying to do by how he's acting and with mean him when we're on the side of him both Josh Donnie like he was telling us like hey we're cool like we got it but it's pretty much like oh everyone old cool group how much do the as a first time starter how much did you end that mean a lot and that was my first time ever using high pads we didn't use the high pads in high school but I mean you can say like try to remember the defense you can just come on a silent bring up a play and get help probably the first or second but after that I thought we say oh and seven awesome thank you very much it seems like training part is a part of but it's not the whole thing they're getting bigger and stronger yeah it's like the culture part yeah how much of the fact reduce that in a part it took your change it's it's also it's a lot and I mean it's and I feel like you can't be able to transform your body like I like I have like people here come and do that

without having that mentality part with it it's like we we always talk about competitions here and our culture is fight so we're always here to compete and I feel like that is just that's what gets you in this mindset when you talk about that transformation can you just give us a little sense maybe with numbers or body fat or like what do you do the weight group how big is that transformation definitely I don't have really specific numbers but I just like it's more just like I can just I feel like feeling when I'm playing like I remember how I felt the play when I just got here and now I know how how it feels to play like like like just today like it feels physically different on my body it's like it's I'm getting used to it that makes sense I can't imagine feeling like that. Hadea also said about you that you are just a completely different guy from last year. You hear the word? Let's get it done. Yeah. So you're here. Do you feel like you

weren't at that place mentally? I think I was but I think I had some I would say like kind of like confidence issues like I was just but you know I mean I work past it and I know I can I know who I am and I know I can be here. So if you have confidence issues how do you get through it? Is it yourself? Is it teammates? Is there someone in your family that makes you believe that you can do it? I know I can do it. It's not like that's those are all it's all in the past now. Did the past of play time and the very obvious opportunity guys had to step up and be able to be on the bit that helped you get over that confidence issue there because it's now a demo and it's a good opportunity. So kind of it's just like just I mean it's just just being here like I feel like being here every day working with the

guys every day. It's just like you know you become this person that you might not have like you might not have felt like you were before that but like coming here working every day stacking these days like like you know I mean I just feel like I realized who I am and I know what I can do now. Well I want to make sure that I'm in this room but are you? This is the second time to like convince yourself that you actually belong here. I knew I knew I could play here. I mean it's just it was like the like I just I don't know how to explain I just like I've always known I could play here it's just I'm just like let's go like I'm ready like I'm ready to attack. What are guys the room to help you to figure that out? For sure I think KJ was a big influence tie Hamilton and Tyleek they all they all helped me a bunch last year kind of just pushing through you know. I really plan as much so I just wanted to get

like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been through now he's running you know almost a second man up behind you and Tyle. What have you seen well as a workhorse he he goes stay quiet you go and work hard and that's all I love about him he focuses he don't really talk much he's going to get a job done do a job right really has any mistakes. What would be a successful season? A national championship? A ring when all the games we don't want to lose anything we got a mindset that we can't be beat and we just gotta go show it.

It's definitely a difference everyone working harder we noticed our last run like we most was don't have any years after this so we got to go go bigger going home and we're not trying to go home finish big. We know what you guys think of Michigan but when you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys took them down to the final minute right you know what I mean I mean you you were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that came against them. Does that tell you anything about like that hey you guys want to win a national championship but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close. So I'm saying we just like work harder that's that's kind of coach makes of saying you know nobody cares just work harder like those you know when we play Georgia it's the same thing yeah last last play you know they went on the win in 90 so we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that you're that close against the last two national title? Of course as you know it's frustrating but you can't

change the outcome you can't really dwell on it you just got to you know come back and work harder do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older you kind of learn and I thought that was working harder than you always find out there's a little more you could have been doing? Yeah definitely I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college and I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could but not look back at it I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now so just to learn anything. What do you need it to be to be your best? Uh 80 85 I mean I can this all on me I just I think it's a little higher I was just trying to be funny but I mean this all on me I just got a run harder in shape. It's been a fact. Yeah the idea of potentially about that idea is it make you nervous about can you last that long?

I think I think I definitely can last I was just you know we got to get the young guys to come along with us we can't play 50 stamps a game that's just too much on our bodies just everybody like online D-line we got to get those younger guys to play you know get that pieces on the D-line and online and everywhere else so we can last that long. Speaking of life plan. Oh yeah I did unless we were like winning by like a lot I thought like there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something but we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame 2 or North those kind of games of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald is he got it? You guys in the second game? Oh yeah definitely K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal y'all you haven't really seen it yet but in practice he shows all the time he's just he's just he's grown right now he has to work ethic he just has to get you know in the playbook things like that.

You guys are about the exact same size. Listen you're both listen 6th grade you're 327 he's 326. Yeah he's I kind of look at him like my my junior but you know K-Mac he's going to be a great player he's got to develop more and get into playbook. So really a lot on you older guy there's that large group of young guys and then there's the seniors in the back is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys along as well. Yeah definitely we got to be leaders like I say we've got to have them play this year we can't just play all the snaps they got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right during the all season so they can play and not just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackles sex. Yeah they're definitely some big dudes and they all work hard I've only seen much of some day two and I'm not a bad one but throughout the workouts they've been working hard you know they they're determined. I'd say that and it looks like they're ready to work the making.

I'm supporting this dude. It feels like there's a lot of great defenses that you have big athletic defense attacks you can eat up space but also move you know right through that. Is that an inquire maybe for a great defense to have guys like you that have some fault but also a great team. I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last couple of national championship winners are like team of Northe you know they got two good uh detaco two athletic detacles look at Georgia two athletic detacles so I think that's definitely need if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams. So have the more questions. I mean you understand this was you play it but I feel like some time I don't know about people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to. I think so uh I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like

freaky detacles. Yeah like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to seven eights and things like that so we'll see. And when you think when you think about this freaky shot like how do you think you fit into that mold of that kind of player. You watch that and say yeah that's me. Uh yeah definitely I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacles but I don't want to you know get a big head but you know watch the come on I watch the doodoo drills. I have tape here like you're looking like my film so I think I'm up there with all those. So I can't wait to become like a artist who comes to the bad guy on passes the uh thing your legs have your things. I mean when you're going you can see Frank Braxton you're not doing that much a weapon or like that. How do you work on that? Do you have like a gold one? I don't remember how many you had last year but you have a gold one last year. Five. How many do you want to have little stuff? I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that but I think he said it on the other side. I think maybe it counts some of them and it's some of them where I like just missed it so but I think we work on drills matching the hand I think that's uh

goes big and uh what we do is a D line you know just affecting the quarterback is anyway you can it's just great for the defense you know just that little thing covering his eye you know he might throw it a little bit to the left to our player so. So let's something that you really really have to work on. You can do that with what you can do to happen. It's hearing that's one of the things that you can maybe work on the most. You can do that in your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen like oh that passenger takes a good look at it and we don't have that. It's a style that you don't have to kind of kind of expect it for the difference. I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball kind of I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him like load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he just throws it to me. I mean they get frustrated but you know we're a team you know we're just getting better. I should lot of a lot of different backs man they just learn to grow for them. You got to pick your top three backs and you got to go right now. One, two, three. I don't really have a top three but I'll give you I'll give you one.

I would say, say Juan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey. Although he was injured this year I like McCaffrey. I appreciate it. Who's the best back in this drive? Best back in this drive. I'll lead that out of the yard. That's y'all that's y'all decision. Playing well Howard when I'm going to remember most. We're Howard man he's just such a great lead such a great leader man. It's just like in moments where you know usually a lot of players they fold man. He was just always calm and relaxed man. He just the leader that he was man that's one thing I'm going to remember about him. Yeah he's shoot he's going to be really good man. He's coast lock. I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia just that one two punch with them both as well. They're going to be really good backs and so James people's man he's smart the way that he goes about his business man. He's mature and so man he's growing you know just as a person in as a player and so man yeah definitely

Ohio State you know that running back room is in great hands. I was right there like I'm looking at you see spotting but I'm just I'll be based in personality and approach. I'll keep that up until the same way. Yeah coach coach hard line man he's full of energy man and he's creative as well you know I'm just learning from him as well you know I'm trying to run more outside the back field was being able to learn from coach hard line and so he's definitely creative at what he's he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well and so I think that'd do really good. Just the intensity man and since the other playoffs every game and it's like the intensity got you know higher and higher and so you know being able I know in the lead it's the same thing even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and the intensity it keeps getting higher and higher and so yeah you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State you know I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that you know I just remember even before going through this

process I'll I'll talk to a lot of players before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them you know for the NFL and so yeah yeah yeah I know I took a couple days off after the national championship and then shoot right after that I'm right in right in Tampa Florida and I'm right to it and so yeah I think while I trained I trained at your birth performance I think it's called the House of Athlete or the compound now they did they did a good job man they're just bringing us in and the way they went about training us man they were they did a really good job. The bucking ears know what I haven't. Tampa a Tampa nice this is nice it's a nice city man really nice. The 40 to broad and the vert.

Yeah yeah no man it's really all about technique and then it's about my set as well and so I say you know it's for the love of my brother it's for the love of will highway it's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter just making sure you know first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked and I I told will I think it was before the first game I was like I got your brother it's I said man I'm not going to let you get hit you know and so I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man it's for the love of my brother's though man making sure the ball get in their hands you know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed. In my game you can't really work on this you know in all season I feel like it's more so you know you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run you know maybe it's really just continuing to run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my

game you know I want to continue to get better I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that. Yes I did yes I did. I did meet with New Orleans as well. I never got that comparison actually I know I haven't come here. Sure yeah man I haven't come here great great back man just what he does and those 101 matchups he's dangerous man and he's so smooth he's so smooth as well I'm not going to lie he's smooth. Yeah inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing down hill and I'll say the next one is probably just an option route out of the backfield you know and man man coverage you're getting on that linebacker and so.

Yeah I say to man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man in the way that man he approaches the game he comes in with the mindset you know he's going to work every single week you know every practice you know he's working hard you know even shoot I don't know every good I think he had every game was a good game for him man and so but still man he always has the mentality to mindset that you know he's going to come in each and every day he's going to continue to work and get better man and so he's definitely man he's going to be a special player man he really is. Man a lot of ups and downs man it's just how you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better is this not have something to lean on now you know I remember before I met him you know going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know you can run to people but they still can't it's not too much they can't truly help you you know I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your

relationship with Jesus Christ and so I'm being able to lean on him you know he gives you in those moments where it's tough you know where it's low and when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about he gives you he gives you that peace and comfort you know even in those moments man where it's so hard that you can't you can't explain it's like man I'm going through this but like how am I still filled with this internal joy you know how do I have so much peace in this situation and so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so man those guys have such a great mentality man I might just really love their mentality especially Q as well you know I talked about Will Howard his leadership but Quinchon mentality man um that boy just yeah that boy just gifted you know you see you know sometimes he put in a

situation where he looked like you know he should have a negative five yards and as soon as you know it you know he that running through somebody step on somebody and shoot it's a gain of 10 it's uh yeah man I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest he's just gifted you know he's he's a big back you know he's strong and so um you know he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so yeah man it's definitely you know I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quinchon you know I want to look at this game is like man where where can I get better at as well you know that's the type of player I am I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian San oh yeah he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man he's so so accurate and so um he's definitely man I know Coach Dez definitely going to get him right just you know um container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going he's going to be really good for our state uh he's uh I know just the quarterback position um I feel like

you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask Julian San as well it's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead to offense and lead to steam sure man he has he has a build like JK Dobbins and um I kind of see them you know similar similarities in their game as well and I know JK Dobbins he was a great running back I feel like he's not talked about his none um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great I remember um before I recruit before I committee here I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man he was such a great back and um I feel like you know um when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games I feel like they play the same and so I appreciate you all yeah I'll be going

to all I got coming in last year I knew we're all so I just attacked Eric Dave really the same way thank you thank you very much basically how different are you weight wise body wise on that from the yearbook oh I think I got a lot bigger I'm like 240 you know like 244 right now last year I played it like 236 to 37 what does it feel like a 244 or a belt you feel like an almost a different machine out there yeah like what does it what does it feel like to be running around out there like you are but with more uh more back I just feel like I'm like like like like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all the bloods better it's big yeah

is it daunting uh maybe that's not the correct term but to thank you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year and you played quite a bit last year instead what do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more just got to get ready to just play already more snaps so but are you are you how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8-stand point yeah I'm looking forward to it I'm ready for it my I'm ready for it the text is open it's a rematch and so to speak but it's not really two different teams compared to the last time you all played and stuff but how is that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the where an opener of that magnitude yeah with an opener like that we've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot and we know we got coming so we know we gotta do we look prepared for it I think Riley ready to play right now he he advanced freshman like he entered he entered the book he stood in like he advanced and his measurements is crazy like he saw like the saw line to it you said you're ready what was that process like during last season could

you feel yourself becoming more and more ready yeah because that's pretty much what my role was whenever I was needed I had to step up so I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say ready is it more a physical thing is it a mental thing when I say ready I think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly I think I'm there a different is that feeling this year than last year um ask that one more time how different is that response to all that it was last year we knew you were a whole way um I feel like it's uh it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year but I kind of go about it the same way like last year I was attention over to everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing it's probably a little bit more

it won't work I say describe like now I say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bully like a silver bullet but I'm really a bully I'm always on the ball that's how I like to play a thing you know I ain't got to be my nickname but oh yeah yeah yeah um think it fit me because I don't know I just like the difference I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we're moving around a lot a lot of the times it's like no I don't know I don't really not answer that I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of

thinking going on but it's like I just like it's deep I like how the truth is I like what you got going on uh now I wanted to much sad I was kind of like happy for you me that's what you want no that's my dog I'm so yeah kind of missing a little bit but yeah I'm happy for you though thank you go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys will win your own yeah how much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year but will be in this bigger role and a lot of some of your your classmates yeah I do feel like um yeah I do feel like I did win a nattie last year but like you said my role wasn't same as how's my beaters here so yeah I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling maybe on the field a lot more place so great oh well thank you very much thank you thank you you need to offense compared to the NFL especially with the way he uses receivers how do

you anticipate your role changing it how do you view the offense from a receiver perspective specifically yeah um I mean I think he likes to really push the ball down the field um he likes to be balanced he likes to uh give different looks to a difference you know we're going to not to try to get too much into it but you know we're going to use some motion move some guys around and things of that nature I think for myself I feel comfortable playing any of the positions that is that is asked whether it's the slot the outside positions and um unique part about our offenses I don't think necessarily you play the X or the Z because the pit on the formation of the hash you can be the opposite you could you can be the X but then you're to the field now you're the Z so you got to really learn the entire concept and know where you're out in the field which I think makes everybody smarter players because you don't pigeonhole yourself I just play X you know I'm only know this position like you get in two minutes you're the Z now you got to know what to do you may have the clear out router you may have the backside dig like you got to know uh what you're doing so I think he doesn't just say like we're going to do this offense he's really trying to

create an offense that fits our personnel really well that that field boundary thing yeah that's the thing in college but it seems like it's more unique to clip is that is that something you're used to seeing with other offenses you've been in yeah definitely I mean I think if if I'm on the left hash like technically um I'm the X you know I'm in the boundary but if we're on the right hash I'm still on the left side I'm really the Z in the concept because I'm to the field I'm to the strength of the tide in so um I've been in offenses like it's similar like that before and um you know I just think he he one thing I think that's really stood out as the compliments of our routes that we have so far um I feel like we have a chance to really run similar stems but there's different routes off those stems and things like that which I think for receiver like myself who uh you get you know a really good look at DBs and they study your film they study your splits like having routes uh that look the same but break off a different different angles is extremely important because it feels like you have some versatility in your bag to go out with versus like you got this

hitch again you're backside like that's all you got you know what I mean so um yeah I he's just been a really good player's person to work with and he's been really communicative with the leaders and how we want this offense to look like in some of the ideas that we may have as well so it's it's been a really uh cool transition you talk about the transitions you've heard offense in three years probably your fourth and six years yeah how do you not kind of build up some barriers yeah man I got to do this again right um I think you know human nature is is always um a factor in whatever you do in life but I think I try to make a conscious choice of coming in with a new year mentality each and every year and I think it's easy because we've had so many changes and um it's been great working with Marcus and Jaden and Jeff and Sam all of everybody like it's it's been great with working with all the quarterbacks and um I just have a mentality and not really being complacent like I

try to really focus on the things that I I can come back better at this year and I've been working my butt off to do that so um I think the easy thing and when I was younger you're like dang like you just want that consistency you know I mean like you want that um something you could depend on but like life isn't life isn't always like that so um I've been reinvigorated because of just the energy that DQ brings into our building each and every day and and the coaches as well like it's fun competing you know what I mean and sometimes I could get lost in the grind but um I think the reason why you make it here at this level is because you you fall in love with the competition of it and I think the competition breathes the success because um that is really where you the iron truly sharpens iron so you know other guys are going to make plays but when you get excited to go in there and and know that um the next day we're going to go right back after the defense so um for myself I'm just looking forward to continue to grow with the quarterbacks that we have um I'm in your

six now which is extreme blessing and um leader one of the leaders in our room and I just try to take the bull by the horns with that and so uh that's really been my focus and uh you know I'm excited for another year to us it's looked like you're being more vocal on the sideline so help young guys definitely something you decided this offseason or uh I think that's uh been a part of my maturation process as a leader um I've always seen myself as somebody that was a uh a leader by example um but from coaches and other teammates I've had over the years um guys like to hear what I have to say for whatever reason sometimes you know and I think the biggest thing where I've tried to figure out where I fit in with my vocal leadership is I never wanted to be like a dictator you know I mean I never wanted to tell guys what to do or or be a yellow or things like that like when I say something I wanted to have power I wanted to have meaning and I hope you know the guys would feel the same way if they were to ask them that question um because I want to see all these guys when man like it's it's hard to make it in this league and stay in a career and so anywhere I could help

the receivers the DBs I'm talking to some alignment Johnny who's who's rehabbing his foot you know I mean like everybody has a role and everybody has a different story and path and so if I could share what I've been through my testimony to help them or uh do things that kind of slow down the process I'm gonna try to do that because um we need everybody from the rookies to the 10 year vets to make this thing work so um more so I I try to speak to what I what I know and and really those honest conversations that I try to have with guys what they know I'm coming from a good place and I think I'm not the type of guy where I'm just gonna want talking at them like if they see something like I could take a coaching point from Luke McCaffrey I could take a coaching point from Deami from Jahan from uh Marcus from anybody you know like I think that's what makes you a great player when you can really uh be coachable from anybody and not take it from a personal standpoint. Hi. Hi. I'm good. I'm going back to what you were saying about Cliff and how is he as a teacher

in teaching all of us? Yeah I mean I think he does a really great job of making things simple first and foremost he doesn't over coach and I think that's the trust that he has in our group and his and his coaches our position coaches to um fill in the details so we'll have an install meeting and um it'll be a good amount of time but then our position coaches will have time and we'll make it specific to that position and so um then we'll come in and have a walkthrough um and then after that we'll have another walkthrough and so I don't think there's been a time where I've come out here and I'm kind of worried about what I got you know what I mean and when you get into certain offices there could be so many details where you could be overwhelmed and I think then it it forces kind of separates guys in a sense that like one guy may study more than another guy but when you have these these sessions that we have where we're having an installs in the morning we're having two walkthroughs and then we're coming on the field and doing it like I think you notice a lot of guys are playing a lot faster and more confident because he's keeping it simple but also he's very particular in what he's expecting but it's not a lot so um there's not a

pressure of to get it right but at the same time um you know it's expected of you and and you know you're going to have the tools given to you to be successful out there on the field and this offseason just the totality of change from front office players coaches the turf field I mean what what does that been like for you just to see what's going on? uh it's been fun um you know I think from uh Mr. Harris and the entire ownership group down to uh Adam Peters down to DQ down to Jada who we drafted and bringing in Marcus and Jeff and all those guys and down to leaders we have on our team I think it was extremely specific on the way they tried to build this thing going into this year um first having the right people bringing in leaders bringing in guys who love to compete first thing that DQ said when he came here was and his first meeting like if you love to compete this is going to be the place for you and I love it you know I mean I love bags and and going at it with the DBs every day like the little mundane stuff can seem a little boring but that's I think that was the the where you make the

gains during the offseason where you're really focused on I'm hey like I'm a I'm a I'm a give all I got for this day and I'm a get better and then I'm a I'm a learn from the film and come back tomorrow and ready to do it again and he also understands like the the benefits of having breaks like he's given us breaks we've had you know weeks off here in the other week and compose ourselves but then come back and give it all we got you know what I mean and when you got a coach that understands the physicality of an entire season where you guys do need breaks by the same time we're going to get after it uh it makes it fun as a leader because you can take that to your room and be like yo we got these we got this week you know I mean that's extremely important but you know we have this little break coming up um where you're going to get your your mind and your body and your soul right so um coming into this season I'm I'm really optimistic of what we can be this year and I think it's started with the foundation that uh the ownership group and the entire staff has built and now it's on myself as a leader to continue to hone that in into the locker room but I think it's great because we have so many great leaders from all across the league uh who have won and hey we got Bobby Wagner

in there you know I mean I asked a hall of famer so like you know being able to have kind of guys like that that you can lean on that can sometimes take over that leadership role where it doesn't fall on one person I think it's uh uh extremely refreshing and knowing that everybody's on the same page and the message is the same um allows you to go out there with confidence and always expect to w terry you seem to spend many of your off seasons learning about things beyond football hobbies what happy did you do anything to this off season so far to hobbies or increase your knowledge of this the world around you uh it's a good question um play a lot of golf uh as that they just keep my competitive juices flowing um uh planning the wedding that's going well and uh man I've just been grinding like honestly you know I mean I've been hungry uh this all season like I started working out you know pretty early and uh you you start to see guys like coming back and

it's just fun to like to be here and compete and feeling like everybody's on the same page you know on me like and so for me I'm a grind every off season but just this one just feels like it's the start of something you know new and special and the foundation of is extremely important and to be a part of that to have a hand in that um you know it's it's an honor you know and I put a lot of expectation on myself to come out here and and be the guy that I know I'm capable of and also like taking the next step and uh being somebody that our quarterbacks that can trust and and believe in so um this all season was pretty simple for me um it was just really about you know working and and and grinding and getting better you talked about Jayden before and anything so far I know we haven't seen everything but in terms of his his arm strength the throws he's making anything surprising so far about the types of his ability in that regard definitely uh I think after the second and third crosser that he threw I started telling receivers like hey you gotta get your head around you know I mean because again each quarterback throws the ball

definitely sees the field differently so sometimes on crossers a lot of quarterbacks may like to see you cross the ball and get into that open zone over there if it's a man flattened off they like to see you get open for him he has a really good anticipation over the middle of the field where he can make those throws and give you a chance to catch and run and uh he he's really accountable too like we had to play the day where he felt like he missed me and you know it's not a big deal at all you know I mean him and I could talk to those things and there's been a play that I've talked to him about I could do a better job but again like that open that open former communication from a rookie I think is it's very rare and I think it speaks to the confidence he knows who he is but he's also not afraid to say when he's wrong and he knows he needs room to improve but his touch on the deep balls is amazing um you know I love getting extra reps with practice after practice with him we're just catching the top end of a deep ball as big for me you know I mean I get to track the ball over my shoulder and as big for him to be able to get used to dropping the ball in the bucket but he just naturally has an ability to throw the ball he sees the windows really well and now uh

he's just you know continue to get adjusted to the speed in the past rush I think he's these reps that he's getting are unbelievable during 11 on 11 because he's getting the field pain and Allen and DA and Cleveland Farrow like we got some dogs up there who are gonna come after him you know what I mean and we got some great guys up front who are gonna protect them and so these reps I feel like are even better than just seven on seven seven on seven I think he could do in the sleep to be fair like he throws the ball really well but uh when you get this 11 on 11 two-minute drill you're putting them in game like situations and I'm looking them in his eye I'm like we play a real ball now like we we we playing you know what I mean and uh you just see no no anxiousness in his game and his demeanor which is extremely exciting and and then you know he's extremely lighthearted and he's always smiling so he's joking with lime and D-line he's just cool with everybody and like I said like for a rookie quarterback to come in like that where guys are gravitating to him and he's not afraid to be who he is uh that's dope I think he has a bright future for himself the tough losses the tough seasons can weigh on a player sure you're

entering the prime of your career J.A. kind of mentioned it last year all he cares about is winning he wants to win now is there a sense of urgency you obviously always want to win yeah knowing that you know you're you're getting to the prime of your career like you want to win now yeah I think that's a fair question I think um you know you start to evaluate when you I'm in year six and you know how fast it goes and um I try not to put the cart before the horse we're looking too far ahead by the same time uh you do want to win you want to be a part of a winning culture and have a chance to win the Super Bowl and in the playoffs and all those things like that's why we we do this uh personally and uh I'm just excited with being a part of a organization in the environment where now like everybody's on the same page in the in the in the message is uniform and it speaks from the top down and uh it reflects in the guys that they're bringing in you know all the guys that they brought in are guys who are hungry who are competitors who uh not only fighting for spots but we're going to help us win games and when you're around an environment like that like that that that makes you

excited makes you hopeful and um you know you don't know how it's going to turn out until we start playing games but um the foundation is extremely important and I think this offseason we've really got a great job of building that they have and then when a coach queen guy here building with this team so I feel like we're going to be going into this offseason really um knowing what we all got to do individually to become ready for camp but the the message is clear to come back to camp ready to compete and uh and and be ready to win thanks Daryl appreciate you guys one of the funniest guys on the team right here we plan as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been through

well as a workhorse he he goes stay quiet he gonna work hard and that's all I love about him he focuses he don't really talk much he's going to get a job done do a job right we really has any mistakes what would be a successful season uh a national championship I ring when all the games we don't want to lose anything uh we got a mindset that we can't be beat we just gotta go show it seems like you guys expect the national championship right here this year even more so you guys have all come back for this you guys have all decided like enough is enough is that this can feel the difference or is it not really any difference it's just the same word uh it's definitely a difference everyone working harder um we noticed our last run like we most of us don't have any years after this so we gotta go go bigger going home then we're not trying to go home finished big we know what you guys think of Michigan but when you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys took them down to the final minute right you know what I mean

I mean you you were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that game against them does that tell you anything about like that pay you guys want to win a national championship but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close so I'm saying uh we just like work harder that's that's kind of coach makes uh saying you know nobody cares just work harder like those no one played Georgia same thing uh last last play you know they went on the win in 90 so we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season I think we'll be fine how frustrating is that you're that close against the last two national title uh of course as you know it's frustrating but you can't change the outcome you can't really dwell on uh dwell on it you just gotta you know come back and work harder do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change is that as you get older you kind of learn I thought I was working hard and you always find out there's a little more you could have been doing yeah definitely I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college and I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could but

now I look back at it I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now so just to learn anything 80 85 I mean I can it's all on me I just I think it's a little higher I was just you're trying to be funny but I mean that's all on me I just got to run harder you know the shape I think I think I definitely can lie as I was just you know we got to get the young guys to come along with as we can't play 50 snaps again that's just too much on our bodies uh just everybody like online D-line we got to get those younger guys to play you know get that pieces on the D-line and the online and everywhere else so we can last that long run

uh yeah I did unless we were like winning by like a lot uh I thought like there are no mommies you know I can go sit down or something but we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame too or North those kind of games of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald is he got it you guys in a second? Oh yeah definitely K-Mac is a K-Mac animal y'all you haven't really seen it yet but in practice he shows all the time he's just he's just he's growing right now he has a work ethic he just has to get you know in the playbook and things like that. We guys are about the exact same size it's you're both listen 6-3 you're 3-27 he's 3-26 yeah I kind of look at him like my junior but you know K-Mac he's gonna be a great player he's gotta develop more and get in the playbook. It's really a lot on you older guys there's that large group of young guys and then there's the seniors in your back is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys warm as well. Yeah definitely we got to be leaders um like I say we got to have them play this year we can't

just play all the snaps they got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right during the all season so they can play and not just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackles sex. Yeah there definitely some big dudes um and they all work hard I've only seen much of something day two when I'm passing on but throughout the workouts they've been working hard you know they they're determined. I just say that and it looks like they're ready to work. I'm going to score this though it feels like there's a lot of great defenses that you have big athletic defensive tactics you can eat up space but also you know right that is that is that an inquire that maybe through great defense to have guys like you that have some balls but also a great feat. I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last

couple of national championship winners uh like see my North they didn't know they got two good detacled two athletic detacles look at Georgia two athletic detacles so I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big run that beat those big teams. If you think about this if there was a fight by the defense attack it's like what's Georgia Jordan Davis and Daniel Carter let's miss again it's Chris Jenkins. I mean you understand it but I feel like some time I don't know are people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to. I think so uh I think there's starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakiest detacles yeah like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that so we'll see and when you think it when you think about this freakish attack how do you think you fit into that ball of that kind of player you watch that and say yeah that's me yeah definitely I think I'm top-notch when it comes to detacles but I don't want to you know get a big

head but you know I watch it come on I watch it do the drills I have a tape here like look at my film so I think I'm gonna be like a artist I think I'm gonna count some of them and some of them were like just listed so but I think we work on drills matching the hand I think that's uh goes big and uh what we do is a D line you know just affecting the quarter bag is anywhere you can it's just great for the defense you know just that little thing covered is I you know he might throw it a little bit to the left to our player so it's something that you really really have to work on you that's one of the things that you've maybe worked on the

post you could bring your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen like oh that passes you guys that we don't have to ask for the style I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball comment I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him I load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he just throws it to me I mean they get frustrated but you know what you know we're just good better that's a lot a lot of different backsman and just learn and grow for them I don't really have a top three but I'll give you I'll give you one I would say say quan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey auto he was injured this year I like McCaffrey best back in this drive I lead out of the yard that's y'all that's y'all decision

playing well Howard when I'm going to remember most we're Howard man he's just such a great lead such a great leader man it's just like in moments where you know usually a lot of players they fold man he was just always calm and relaxed man he just the leader that he was man that's one thing I'm gonna remember about him yeah he's he's gonna be really good man he's um coach lock I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia just that one two punch with them both as well they're gonna be really good backs and so James people's man he's smart the way that he goes about his business man he's mature and so man he's growing you know just as a as a person in as a player and so man yeah definitely Ohio State you know that running back room is in gray hands yeah coach coach hard line man he's full of energy man and he's creative as well you know I'm just learning from him as well you know

I'm trying to run more outside the backfield was being able to learn from coach hard line and so he's definitely creative at what he's he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well and so I think they'll do really good just intensity man then since he did other playoffs every game and it's like the intensity got you know higher and higher and so you know being able I know in the lead it's it's the same thing even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and then since he keeps getting higher and higher and so yeah you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State you know I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that you know I just remember even before going through this process I'll I'll talk to a lot of players before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them you know for the NFL and so yeah yeah yeah I know I took a couple days off after the national championship and then

shoot right after that I'm right in right in Tampa Florida and I'm right to it and so yeah I think while I trained I trained at your birth performance I think it's called the House of Athlete or the compound now they did they did a good job man it just bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man they were they did a really good job the bucket near know I haven't anything in the city Tampa Tampa nice this is nice it's a nice city man really nice uh the 40 to broad and avert yeah yeah nah man uh it's really all about technique and then it's about my set as well and so I say you know it's for the love of my brother it's for the love of will highway it's for the love of the receiver so I got on the perimeter just making sure you know um first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked um and I I told will I think it was before the first game I was like

I got your brother it's uh I said man I'm not gonna let you get hit you know um and so um I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man it's for the love of my brothers though man making sure the the ball getting their hands you know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed in my game uh you can't really work on this you know in all season I feel like it's more so you know you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run you know maybe uh it's really just continuing run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game you know I want to continue to get better at I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that yes I did yes I did I did meet with um New Orleans as well um I never got that comparison actually um I know

I have a Camera shoe yeah man I have a Camera great great back man um just what he does and knows 101 matchups he's dangerous man and he's so smooth he's so smooth as well I'm not going to lie he's smooth yeah um inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing downhill and I'll say the next one is probably just an option route out of the backfield you know and man and man coverage you're getting on that linebacker and so yeah I say the man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man in the way that man um he approaches the game he comes in with the mindset you know he's going to work every single week you know every practice you know he's working hard you know um even shoot I don't know every good I think he had every game was a good

game for him man and so but still man he always has the mentality the mindset that you know he's going to come in each and every day he's going to continue to work and get better man and so he's definitely man he's going to be a special player man he really is man a lot of ups and downs man it's just how you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better is this um not have something to lean on now you know I remember before I met him you know going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know you can run to people but they still can't it's not too much they can't truly help you you know I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ and so being able to lean on him you know he gives you in those moments where it's tough you know where it's low and um when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about um he gives you he gives you that peace and comfort you know um even in those moments man where it's so hard that you can't you can't explain it's like

man I'm going through this but like how am I still filled with this internal joy you know how do I have so much peace in this situation and so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so um man eight those guys have such a great mentality man oh my just really love their mentality especially um Q as well you know I talked about Will Howard his leadership but Quinch Diamond mentality man um that boy just yeah that boy just gifted you know you see you know sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like you know he should have a negative five yards and as soon as you know it you know he that running through somebody step on him somebody and she would just gain a 10 and so I think yeah man I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest he's just gifted you know he's

he's a big back you know he's strong and so um you know he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um yeah man it's definitely you know I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quinch Diamond you know I want to look at this game is like man where where can I get better at as well you know that's the type of player I am I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player julien san oh yeah he's going to be a great but he's going to be a great quarterback man he's so so accurate and so um he's definitely man I know coach day is definitely going to get him right just you know um container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going he's going to be really good for high state uh he's I know just the quarterback position um I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask of julien san as well it's to be that vocal leader and lead the and lead to offensive lead to steam sure man he has he has a build like jk dobbins and um I kind of see them you know similar

similarities in their game as well and I know jk dobbins he was a great running back um I feel like he's not talked about his none um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great I remember um before I recruit before I committee here I remember watching jk dobbins highlights like every every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man he was such a great back and um I feel like you know um when I see jk dobbins when I see um james people I see similarities to both of their games I feel like they play the same so I appreciate you all y'all y'all going

so all I got coming in last round to the roll so I just attacked arie dig really the same way thanks to the van very rare physically how different are you weight wise body wise all that from the mirror oh I think I got a lot bigger I'm like 240 you know like 244 right now last year I played it like 236 to 37 what does it feel like a 244 or a belt you feel like almost a different machine out there yeah what's it what does it feel like to be running around out there like you are with more more bands I just feel like I'm like like like more downhill like stronger than I'm taking all blocks better it's a big no is it daunting uh maybe that's not the

correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year and you played quite a bit last year instead what do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more you've got to get ready to just play the arie more snaps so how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8 stand point yeah I'm looking forward to it I'm ready for it my I'm ready for it it's a rematch but it's not really two different teams compared to the ones I'm y'all played and stuff how's that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the where an opener of that magnitude yeah with an opener like that we've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot we know we got coming so we know we got to do we've been prepared for it already does probably what I think Riley ready to play right now he he advanced freshman like he ended up here in the book he studied in like he advanced and his measurements is crazy like he saw like the saw line to him what was that process like during last

season could you feel yourself becoming more and more ready for whatever the team needed for yeah because that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up so I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say ready is it more a physical thing is it a mental thing when I say ready I think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly I think I'm there a different is that feeling it's your Van Lassinger because it's possible to back up oh I asked that one more time how different is that responsibility of that one last year you knew you were a homemaker um I feel like it's uh it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year but I kind of go about it the same way like last year I was attention to with everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing it's probably a little bit more somebody who's somebody who's a man who's got a job and one word

I don't know how many words you want uh I say describe like now I say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bullet like a silver bullet I don't really a bullet I'm always on the ball that's how I like to play a thing no I ain't got to be my nickname but oh yeah yeah and how it's free I mean how does that fit you and what are you going to be showing about the playing in that kind of style oh think it fit me because I don't know I just like the defense I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we're moving around a lot a lot of the terms is like no I don't know I don't really not answer that that's okay does it kind of you can go on your instincts a little bit more baby and it's not so thinking of too much I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on but it's like

I just like it's deep I like how to put it deep because I like what you got going on uh now I want to much sad I was kind of like happy for you like yeah that's what you want no no that's my dog I'm gonna say yeah kind of missing a little bit but yeah I'm happy for you I don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys will win you're out yeah how much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year but will be in this bigger role and along with some of your classmates yeah I do feel like um yeah I do feel like I did win a national championship but like you said my role wasn't same as how's my beaters here so yeah I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling we need to be on field a lot more place that's it oh well thank you very much thank you so good I kind of have a lot of meters on the D line at the D in position so we kind of all kind of just counts off for children

um so competitive and we love it you're all competitive people we all love to fish each other and that's really the thing the best side of all just feel like we're all just kind of bouncing off each other we see what one person does and we kind of bid it into our toolbox and we all kind of just kind of build one great thing so I definitely did it in high school I was pulled back and a little bit tied in so I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there in Coach Wilson obviously you left watching it too before you left and I feel like you playing that seed in Coach Day's head and Coach Day kind of just went for it and I tried to do the best I could to do it exactly genuine now I mean new playbook I did not know yeah I've got that far um I like to think myself as a football player I can really play any position on the field you need

me to just give me a weaker to to learn it and kind of perfect it and I'll try to do my best for you Kitchak you the same thing oh yeah graph please that's why Kitch is talking to Coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and sort of saw you and got out to have some conversations after JT and Jack decided to come back just got to wait into those for your perspective and how did that help you maybe get the right mindset I guess I'm gonna need some. Um definitely kind of seeing it all the way through I feel like uh people kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it how long the season is now what you got to do to prepare for and what to happen in all that time from here to to this so uh I feel like we definitely just coached JT and me kind of connected and then we kind of just talks man-to-man and uh they kind of just sent it straight to me and I feel like we kind of both have been honest and we know we're making it yada. We're making each other better every day and we got the four best DNs five best DNs honestly and we're coached for ball and we're gonna be one of the best D-Rimes and coached for ball. I don't you feel like a better player

today anymore? I feel like I've taken big steps in my rules of just being responsible and being more of a leader and uh kind of stepping up and taking a step to kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in and uh I feel like I'm kind of helping out more. I mean it sounds bizarre but I mean the season goes by so fast already so when you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow it's already week 10 so now it's kind of gives you more time to kind of enjoy it kind of save it because it's not our year three so like refreshments for these crazy. But you don't want to spend all your power in the first uh first month of the year right? Oh yeah. There is a not pace yourself that but I mean there's a light signal that I did that season. Yeah definitely definitely gonna have that the mental stability that hand all those weeks all those practice. How much has Larry talked to you guys about the last question right here? The 2016 2017 4 NFL Defense Awards all in the same location. How much does he talk to that man?

I mean he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. You've seen it every day. We watch the film. We see them all working together. We know what it could be. We know what we could become. So we know we we're right at the same, we're at the right place at the right time and God wanted us to be here and he knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and uh just perfect our craft together and I feel like we all are just great individuals and we come together and something special. Great. We plan as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been going around. One of those younger guys we're seeing it on the first time. It's heard all year last year. What have you seen from Will? Because I don't know. I should have real forgot about it because he was heard now how he's running you know almost a second man up behind you and Ty. What have you seen in the next generation? Will's a workhorse. He he goes stay quiet. He's going to work hard and that's what I love about him. He focuses. He don't really talk much. He's going to give the job done. Do a job right. Rarely has any mistakes. What would be a successful season?

A national championship? A ring? When all the games we don't want to lose anything. We got a mindset that we can't be beat and we just got to go show it. I'm saying you have mindset different. Seems like you guys expect a national championship every year. This year even more so you guys have all come back for this. You guys have all decided like an opposite one. Does that just keep feeling different? Or is there a chance that you're not going to be different? It's just the same word. It's definitely a difference. Everyone working harder. We noticed our last run. Like most of us don't have any years after this. So we got to go go bigger going home and we're not trying to go home. Finish big. We know what you guys think of Michigan. When you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys took them down to the final minute. You were right there. Something goes a little different. You guys could have won that game against them. Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey you guys want to win a national championship but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year.

Like you're that close. So I'm saying we just like work harder. That's kind of what you make of saying. Nobody cares. Just work harder. Like those one plate Georgia is the same thing. Last play they went on the win in the 90s. So we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that? You're that close against the last two national titles. Of course it's frustrating but you can't change the outcome. You can't really dwell on it. You just got to come back and work harder. Do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. As soon as you get older you kind of learn. I thought that was working hard but you always find out there's a little more than you could have been doing. Yeah definitely. I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college. I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could but now I look back at it. I really wasn't working hard at all. Compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything. But the stamina is a 60. Then the answer is like what do you need it to be to be your best? Uh,

it is at 75. 80 85. I mean I can it's all on me. I just I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny but I mean it's all on me. I just got to run harder in shape. So I just stand up to you young. It's kind of thank you. The idea of the content you just see the 70s. I mean, I said about that idea. There's a making nervous about can you last that long? I think I think I definitely can last. I was just you know we got to get the young guys that come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies. Just everybody like online. D line we got to get those younger guys to play and you know get that pieces on the D line and the online and everywhere else. So we can last that long. Speaking of the light. I'm not. Like playing that me snap. I don't know if you have us. I did unless we were like winning by like a line. I thought like there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something.

But we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame too on those kind of games. I of course I want to be because I know I can contribute. And I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Kevin McDonald? Is he got a key? Have you guys ever seen him? Oh yeah definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal. Y'all you haven't really seen it yet but in practice he shows it all the time. He's just he's growing right now. He has to work at the he just has to get you know in the playbook and things like that. You guys are about the exact same size. Listen you're both listening to six degree you're free 27 he's free 26. Yeah he's I kind of look at him like my my junior but you know K-Mac he's going to be a great player. He's just got to develop more and get into playbook. So really a lot on you older guys there's that large group of young guys and then there's the seniors in your back. Is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys along as well? Yeah definitely we got to be leaders. Um like I said we got to have them play this year. We can't just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work. And we got to get them right during the all season so they can play.

And not just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackle success. Yeah they're definitely some big dudes. Um and they all work hard. I've only seen much of some of the day two when I'm not passing on but throughout the workouts they've been working hard you know they they're determined. I'd say that. And it looks like they're ready to work with me. I'm going to put this notes. It feels like you have a lot of great defenses that you have big athletic defense attacks you can eat up space but also move you know right. That is that because I have an environment maybe for great defense to have guys like you that have some faults but also a great team. I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last uh a couple of nice and matured people like seem on North they didn't know they got two good uh detackled two athletic detackles. Look at Georgia two athletic detackers.

So I think that's definitely need if you want to go on that big run that beat those big teams. If you think about this if they want to find by the defense attackers like what's Jordan Davis and Janet Carter and what's Michigan is Chris Jenkins. Couple more questions. You understand. It's just you play it but I feel like some time I don't know are people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to. I think so uh I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freaky detackles. Yeah. Like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that so we'll see. And when you think it when you think about those freaky shabby fence attacks how do you think you fit into that all of that kind of player. You watch that and say yeah that's me. Uh yeah definitely I think I'm top notch when it comes to detackles but I don't want to you know get a big head but you know watch it come on I watch it do the drills. I have tape here you like you're looking like my film so I think I'm up there.

Well I'm like you become like a artist or a bunch of bad guys. I think your legs have your things. I mean you're going to bring practice. Do you have like a goal? I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that but I think he's like he said it. I think it counts some of them and it's some of them where I like just missed it so but I think we work on drills matching the hand I think that's uh goes big and uh what we do is a D line you know just affecting the quarterback is anyway you can it's just great for the defense you know just that little thing covering his eye you know he might throw it a little bit to the left for our player.

I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball comment I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him like load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he's throws it to me. I mean they get frustrated but you know we're a team you know we're just getting better. I should lot of a lot of different backs man they just learn to grow for them. If you want to pick your top three backs we have a goal right now hold on to I don't really have a top three but I'll give you I'll give you one I would say Sequan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey auto he was injured this year I like McCaffrey. Best back in this draft I'll lead that up the yard that's y'all that's y'all decision. Playing well Howard when I'm going to remember most. We're Howard man he's just such a great lead such a great leader man it's just like in moments where

you know usually a lot of players they fold man he was just always calm and relaxed man he just the leader that he was man that's one thing I'm going to remember about him. Yeah he's shoot he's going to be really good man he's um Coach Locke I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia just that one two punch with them both as well They're going to be really good backs and so James people's man he's smart the way that he goes about his business man He's mature and so man he's growing you know just as a person in as a player and so man yeah definitely Oh hi estate you know that running back room is in gray hands so it's right like I'm looking at you see spotting through the base and your personality and the approach of defense Yeah um coach coach hard line man he's full of energy man and um he's creative as well you know um just learning from him as well you know um trying to run more outside the backfield was being able to learn from um coach hard line and so he's definitely creative at what he's he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well and so I think that would do really good

um just intensity man then since the other playoffs um every game and it's like the intensity got you know higher and higher and so um you know being able I know in the lead it's it's the same thing even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and then intensity it keeps getting higher and higher and so yeah you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State you know I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that you know I just remember even before going through this process how I'll talk to a lot of players um before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them you know for the NFL and so yeah yeah yeah I know I took a couple days off after the um national championship and then shoot right after that I'm writing right in sample Florida and I'm right to it and so um yeah I think while trained I trained that um your morph performance um I think it's called the

House of Athlete or the compound now um they did they did a good job man it just um bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man they were they did a really good job the bucket near know I haven't Temple of Tampa nice this is nice this is a nice city man really nice yeah uh the 40 to broad and avert yeah uh yeah no man uh it's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well and so um I say you know it's for the love of my brother it's for the love of will highway it's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter just making sure you know um first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked um and I I told will I think it was before the first game I was like I got your brother it's uh I said man I'm not gonna let you get hit you know um and so I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um but I know if I did I

haven't given up too many and so man it's for the love of my brother's though man making sure the ball get in their hands you know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed in my game uh you can't really work on this you know in all season I feel like it's more so you know you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run you know maybe uh it's really just continuing to run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game you know I want to continue to get better at I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that yes I did yes I did uh I did me with um New Orleans as well um I never got that comparison actually um I know I'm a comrade sure yeah man I would come here great great back man um just what he does and those 101 matchups he's dangerous man and he's so smooth he's so smooth as well I'm not going to be moving like he's smooth yeah um inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing

downhill and I'll say the next one is probably just an option route out of the backfield you know and man and man coverage you're getting on that linebacker and so yeah I say the man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man in the way that man um he approaches the game he comes in with the mindset you know he's going to work every single week you know every practice you know he's working hard you know um even shoot I don't know every good I think he had it every game was a good game for him man and so but still man he always has the mentality the mindset that you know he's going to come in each and every day he's going to continue to work and get better man and so he's definitely man he's going to be a special player man he really is man a lot of ups and downs man it's just how you respond to adversity and I

feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better is this um not have something to lean on now you know I remember before I met him you know going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know you can run to people but they still can't it's not too much they can't truly help you you know I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ and so being able to lean on him you know he gives you in those moments where it's tough you know where it's low and um when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about um he gives you he gives you that peace and comfort you know um even in those moments man we're so hard that you can't you can't explain it's like man I'm going through this but like how am I still filled with this internal joy you know how do I have so much peace in this situation and so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so um man eight those guys have such a great mentality man I might just really love their mentality

especially um Q as well you know I talked about will Howard his leadership but Quenchon mentality man um that boy just yeah that boy just gifted you know you see you know sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like you know he should have a negative five yards and as soon as you know it you know he's running through somebody step on somebody and shoot it's a gain of 10 it's uh yeah man I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest he's just gifted you know he's he's a big back you know he's strong and so um you know he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um yeah man it's definitely you know I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quenchon you know I want to look at this game is like man where where can I get better at as well you know that's the type of player I am I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian San oh yeah he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man he's so

so accurate and so um he's definitely man I know Coach Dez is definitely going to get him right just you know um container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going he's going to be really good for high state uh he's that I know just the quarterback position um I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask Julian San as well it's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead to offensive lead to steam sure man he has he has a build like JK Dobbins and um I kind of see them you know similar similarities in their game as well and I know JK Dobbins he was a great running back I feel like he's not talked about his now um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great I remember um before I recruit before I committee here I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man he was such a great

back and um I feel like you know um when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games I feel like they play the same and so appreciate you all yeah

so well I got coming in last round new year also I just attacked Eric Dave really the same way it's technically very rare oh I think I got a lot bigger I'm like 240 you know like 240 for right now last year I played it like 236 to 37 what does it feel like a 240 for or you feel like almost a different machine out there yeah like what does it feel like to be running around out there like you are but with more uh more back I just feel like I'm like like like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all blocks better it's a big no is it don't think uh maybe that's not

the correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year and you played quite a bit last year instead what do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more this is gotta get ready to just play there are you more snaps so but are you are you how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8th yeah I'm looking forward to it I'm ready for it my I'm ready for it it's open it's a rematch so it's not really two different teams comparing the ones time you all played and stuff how does that enhance this camp for you and this team getting ready for they were an opener of that magnitude yeah with an opener like that we've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot we know we got coming so we know we got to do we've been prepared for it I already just broadly worked it up here I have to play right now um I think Riley ready to play right now he he advanced freshman like he ended up here in the book he stood in like he advanced and his measurements crazy like he saw like saw like so I told you said you're ready what was that

process like during last season could you feel yourself becoming more and more ready yeah because that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up so I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say ready is it more a physical thing is it a mental thing when I say ready I think is pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly I think I'm there a different time how different is that I feel like it's uh it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year but I kind of go about it the same way like last year I was intentional with everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing it's probably a little bit more

it won't work uh I say describe like now I say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bullet like a silver bullet I don't really know what it's on the ball that's how I like to play and think no I ain't got to be my nickname but oh yeah I'm a more professional and how it's free I mean how does that fit in and what are you doing about playing in that kind of style um think it fit me because I don't know I just like the defense I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we're moving around a lot a lot of the terms is like no I don't know I don't really not answer that that's okay does it you could go on your instincts a little bit more baby and it's not so thinking of too much I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on but it's like

I just like it's different I like how it's pretty different I like what you got going on uh now I want to much sad I was kind of like happy for you like yeah that's what you want no that's my dog don't say it kind of missing me a little bit but yeah I'm happy for you though oh don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys have been in your own yeah how much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year but will be in this bigger role and along with some of your classmates yeah I do feel like um yeah I do feel like I did win the nati last year but like you said my role wasn't same as how's my beat this year so yeah I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling maybe on the field a lot more place it's great oh bell thank you very much thank you championship been naked you know before and everything like that and also need to get your your teeth knocked in you know first game and

you know can't have that happen because then you know really doesn't mean anything and so just the constant mindset to continually get better but on the forefront of my mind and forefront of anyone here you can ask yeah yeah I know we we look at the class sets every now and then I can be like oh man they're gone they're gone but no it's been it's been good I mean the guys who are still here I must have definitely kind of bonded together pretty good so yeah yeah yeah yeah I mean you know Mark came in the other day is like that class 12 one best class ever and like yeah sure okay you know I can't really can't really even you know just sitting to that you know I don't have much left but um yeah I mean to do what we can and do what we can for this team has been really important for all of us and I think us now realizing where the veterans you know like where the old guys now just been kind of strange

at least to begin with you know because you go from all those guys you like Donnie and Josh and those guys and all of a sudden it's Sunday we have a team meeting after the like the celebration the shoe and all of a sudden the next day there's gone and you know it's it's just very different so I think us being able to step up as you know leaders and as as vets to help bring out you know along the team our units and this program has been really important. What are you doing overall? you two more questions just to try um but then you were here on this long country for sure Luke said that Jake has been by some so far eating, drinking, drinking, and talking to you. Yeah. Somebody who went through that would have been impressed by Jake. No it could have been doing really well. I mean I could go and he goes to work. He's extremely athletic, extremely flexible. You know he's a young kid obviously he's a lot of development, a lot of he's a little adversity at all of us do but I think he's going through that right now but he's been coming out on the better end of it so far and excited to see

what he can do because he's very impressive at this young stage. What is your overall level of excitement just to be back with the rest of this interior off the line? Yeah extremely excited I mean trying to just build that culture back up again you know like what we had last year. I were trying to do a little stuff here and there and I know I think we're going to Ray-Rays of barbecue I think tomorrow. So shout out Ray-Rays but yeah just trying to get that brotherhood back, get that you know that oblock spirit back. Sure it's coming soon. Hopefully but just to kind of get those not those same faces but those same kind of mindsets back and our group is important right now and it's been fun to meet new guys from different backgrounds and stuff like that and try to figure out how to you know build that and mend that together it's been pretty cool. Now as you are one of the most experienced veterans on this team how much do you feel like you have to be a leader for this team this year? Yeah for sure I mean I think that comes um

I don't it's obviously I don't feel like it's natural to anyone to immediately step up and that's something I've been working on every day and talking to God about but I obviously understand that and that's something I want to continue to work on I want to be able to be a guy that people can fall back on and like coach just saying before like we're going to have highs in those but the great players the ones being set our clocks too and I kind of want that's my goal as to be one of those people that you can do that and I think for especially a very new set of eyes in the Woody not only coaches but players I think it's very important to kind of keep that steady mindset and I think for me learning how to be a leader has been important just to not be too hard on myself but also not let myself kind of slack off in some departments to try to keep um steady just your story itself though is testament of what it means to like for perseverance is tough too though right car so I mean you know that's a that's gonna have to stand up from somebody to say that right I mean just

what do you what do you think you've shown more than anything else in every card? Yeah I mean I've been blessed you know I've you know I've been blessed with a lot of adversity I think that's definitely maybe better on the back end and um you know coach to coach Dei always talks about it and you don't you know great leaders aren't you know they can show it but you know a lot of people can show a lot a lot of people can just talk about it but to be about it is important and I think to be not I've went through a lot of that adversity I went through a lot of that stuff and um my testament you know has been written in an interesting way but I think for me to take that next step is really important for not only for this team but for myself personally yeah he's been doing great I mean he came in um big freaking strong he's fun to be in the weight room with uh he's uh he's kind of quiet like that's kind of my first impression on but he's actually pretty funny dude he he and his dad come over in the kind of joke around he's so he's been doing a great job or he's doing a great job um for his size he has like freaky athletic feet like I watch and do the ladders and

I was a lot of massive over on and those things you know doing the little itch shuffle but I mean he he's he was killing it and so he's been doing a great job I can't wait to see um how it kind of continues to develop um throughout this summer and throughout this fall camp yeah piggy's been doing great I mean he um he stepped up piggy yeah yeah everyone refers to this piggy is his username one time nice everyone's piggy anyway um you know pig's been doing great he uh he's been able to step up and kind of bring around along those younger guys um you know everyone's kind of trying to figure out their their new roles and I think he's been uh he's been doing a lot of things big body guy they could catch the bar can run between the tacos um his feet are quicker than once you think for a big guy yeah really good feet and good balance so that's what makes me good that's what I saw him

uh what tight end background now I don't know many with that type of background but when he's high school we see that they try to play as an age back well when you look in the portal for running actually we try to recruit running backs does it matter to you if you have two different styles running backs maybe one guy can do certain things better one guy can do something but is it you'll just say the best running back if you find you know I want to have different I want to do stuff I'm gonna try to say the same but you know take the same thing you know take guys with different uh whether they're big guys small guys class catchers in between the tapping runners and no y'all I don't want to say the same thing but different different different different backs you guys have a willing finish aren't you a lot of that a slower red zone story you guys are really in the car is it important to find the back of the match the size like CJ has the opening that we lost to you uh no I have my own opinion on the size thing when it comes in the red zone you know I had Jordan James at the world and I he's my red zone running show y'all

runs a freshman and probably way to two ten or twelve five which is not very big but they ain't got nothing to do with me you know some guys you got to know so sticking about his own and you play with a lot of aggression down here runners and that could be CJ that could be James or what could be the freshman go Jackson you know it's just you who has no one to give him his own but that's that's what I'm all over you know just because you're being there don't make it off we knew you get obviously you know freshman running back from it and I said here but what do you need to see from a freshman to feel comfortable with that in the first day with it on the ball well whether would they do they know small details take care of the ball the second thing will be how good they know pass for them because it's the hardest thing for high school because they're not living here in high school you have to understand the pass but by all their falls or heat so like they say I mean it has to be my own so but that's why I need to see first

from everything just I would understand to read this so I think you need to be good. do you feel comfortable with with go and I say where they're at or at least you know where their time lies. Yeah I think they've been fine I'd say I tell all the young guys he's a marathon out of sport. The first day first you've been an armistice specialist too you know you earn a spot with a specialist too then you earn the right to be a book out of you so they get that down to feel so I think they're training the right moves. First practice like it wasn't merit to build off the rules. I'm cleaning stuff to work on. I've just seen some of the younger guys in the room develop thinking about like Attracuse and just coming in this year seeing him working with you guys. Joshua would make it and sound so you'd come home. I feel like they're definitely picking up quick I mean I was in their shoes one time and I had Zach Harrison, Javonte and Tyler Friadal in front of me so I thought

I'm just trying to be kind of one of those peers that they work for me and kind of just give them the steps to get there and I feel like they're definitely picking up quick and they're definitely need to be one of the great Russian. The last couple. I feel like all the camps I've definitely got my big course learned and I love that because I asked Coach Jay for it I love getting more reps because I just like protecting my craft. So I mean some people may not need it some people need it but I mean I just like to use me reps like you. I mean for me it's always just kind of getting my little details perfectly like my steps and my footing kind of just perfecting my toolbox and what we call it in my craft and just trying to be like whenever every player is what kind of difference.

Yeah I'm definitely just getting stronger faster everything all the above but one of my big things is being a leader and kind of just not trying to look still look up to Jack and Jay-T and kind of have my own kind of leadership and be able to bring people into so I feel like kind of have a lot of leaders on the D-line and we had to be in position so we kind of all kind of just counts off the chiller and hearts. I'm really competitive and we love it. We all competitive people we all live with each other and that's really the thing that best side of all is to like we all just kind of bounce off each other and see what one person does and we kind of better than the archival box and we all kind of just kind of build one great thing. Hey do you remember when last year when you got to get the shot in with full back and did they approach you with that idea and full coach them? I mean how did they come about? Because you're a jack sawyer sloppy.

Oh yeah. It gives a test back. So I definitely did it in high school. I was pulled back and a little bit of tidied in so I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there in Coach Wilson honestly. He loved watching it too before he loved and I feel like he planned that seat and coach day's head and coach day kind of just went for it and tried to do the best I could to do it. Is that continuing now? I mean I'm just new people. Do anything in the screen? New play about Guy to Nano. Yeah we've got that far. Yeah really. People. How tough is that? Yeah look at that. Um I like to think myself as a football player. I can really play any professional in the field you need me to just give me a week or two to learn it and kind of perfect it and I'll try to do one for you. Kid Jack you the same thing. Oh yeah. Don't want that. I'm with you. Roughly that's why. He was just talking to Coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and sort of sight you and about how to have some conversations after the JT and Jack decided to come back. Just went a way into it as we were perspective and out of that helped you maybe get the right mindset I guess when it needs to come. Um definitely kind of seeing it all the way through.

I feel like people kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it. How long the season is now. What you got to do to prepare for and what could happen in all that time from here to to then. So I feel like we definitely just coached in me kind of connected. And we kind of just talks man on man and uh he kind of just sent straight to me and I feel like we kind of both are going on and we know we're making it. We're making each other better every day and we got the 4 best Dn. 5 best Dn honestly in the college football and we're going to be one of the best D lines in college football. How do you feel like a better player today than you were again in the season? Well I feel like I've taken big steps in my roles of just being responsible and being more of a leader and kind of stepping up and taking the step to kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in and I feel like I'm kind of helping out more. I mean it sounds bizarre but I mean the season goes by so fast already so when you're kind of like

week 10 and you're like wow it's already weekend so now it's kind of getting more time to kind of enjoy it and kind of save it because we're in here for a feeling of refreshments. But you don't want to spend all your power in the first month of the year right? Oh yeah there is that pace yourself there. I mean there is a mindset that I did that this season. Yeah definitely definitely going to have that the mental stability to handle all those weeks all those practices. How much has Larry talked to you guys about like that? Last question right here. He doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day. We watched the film. We see them all working together. We know what it could be. We know what it could become. So we know we're at the same, we're at the right place at the right time and God wanted us to be here and he knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and just perfect our craft together. And I feel like we all are just great individuals and we come together at something special. How did your expectations like this to be up with how do you feel you played at this point in the past?

I feel like I've made the plays that came to me and that's really awesome. I think I'm in control. I've had more opportunities as years progressed and been in spots to be around the ball. But the expectation was to come in here and contribute to the team and try to help find a way to push the team to win games at high level and to be better than they were in Lashian for me to play better than I was in Lashian. So really just coming to try to grow with myself and with the team. So that was my big goal and I feel like I've done a good job and the team has done a good job progressing through the year and getting better. So yeah, that's all I can say about that. Okay, so the right thing made a lot of money. Yeah, okay, so you stand here right now. Does it feel like a different season? What does it feel like for you going into playoffs? You know, you all didn't get the goal you wanted necessarily to bring your sheets to the year you are. What is that sense that you have right now that's different from the regular sheets?

I mean, everybody wants to say it's a new season in terms of. Because if everybody's more than zero and zero right now, when you keep going, if you lose, you're done. So I mean, but generally that's how you can play every game. You know, they play every game like it's your last game. So for me, I don't think it's really any difference you've got to go play at high level every game. That can't be based at home. This is a player family. There's a thing you have to go play every game like it's the same thing. So I would say in terms of that, no, you just have to play the game. Play the game this day. What feels difficult about this defense right now going into this, though, Y'all feel even more. Finally, you know, up by tie that we close together, what was it? I mean, what is your sense of the further it's so to speak of the defense? I feel like we progressed throughout the season. We didn't make a change after game 6 because we lost and we didn't play well again. And I feel like we've grown from that and had to a better place. Over these past two weeks, off just realizing, okay, these are the things that we messed up

throughout the year. These are what we need to face. These are what this team is trying to exploit on us. So just really going back to everything and seeing what can do better for this kind of game or for the next one. Let's come to questions. Tony, you heard me fuck at home. How does the Tennessee's wide split and third receivers impact you as a country? I feel like it makes the game more and more one game. It makes your receivers and your DBs have to play a separate game than the guys up front. And it makes it, truthfully, like those guys have to do their job and these guys have to do your job. You got to be able to stop the run with the people they've had and the run fit and you have to be able to stop the path with the people they have out there. So that's what they do and they do it at a really elite level. So it's going to be tough to go ahead. Coach knows the time about the speed at which there can you guys are going to call them play and see if they can play call them and what kind of player kind of band is it that

gives you the speed at which coach is calling them. All right. It allows you to be your clean senator. By that, so earlier just a ability to see the formation and see what keys that you have before the play and have knowledge of your job and not really thinking being able to play and not being during the games or when the big thing. So whenever you get to call it faster and play at a high level and play without thought. That's a really good thing. Okay, well thank you very much. Appreciate you. Yeah, I'm a father. Did you ever do a check? All your words, lobby? Oh yeah. You didn't touch that. So I definitely didn't in high school. I was pulled back and a little bit tired and so I feel like they kind of saw what I could do there and coach Wilson. Honestly, he loved watching it too before you left. I feel like he planned that seat and coach Day's head and coach Day kind of just went for it and tried to do the best I could to do it. Executive chin right now, I mean, I know they do anything in the screen. New playbook, I did not know you hadn't got that far. Yeah, you haven't got that far. How top percent of you? You're looking backwards.

Um, I like to think myself as a football player. I can really play any position on the field you need me to. Just give me a week or two to learn it and kind of perfect it and I'll try to do my best for you. Hey, Jack, you're the same thing. Oh yeah. Graphically, that's why Katie's just talking to Coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and the stories start viewing it. We've got it out to have some conversations after JT and Jack decided to come back. Just kind of went into those and we're expecting it and how did that help you make it good to write mindset against being in this country? Um, definitely kind of seeing it all the way through. I feel like people kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it. How long the season is now, what you got to do to prepare for it and what to happen in all that time from here to to then. So, I feel like we definitely just coached JT and me kind of connected and we kind of just talks man-to-man and uh, be kind of dissent straight to me and I feel like we kind of broke it. That's what I mean. We know we're making it. Yada. We're making each other better every day. We got the four best D-ins, five best D-ins honestly in the college football and we're going to be

one of the best D-lines in college football. Are you still the head of the player today anymore again this year? Um, I feel like I've taken big steps in my rules of just being responsible and being more of a leader and kind of stepping up and taking a step to kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in and I feel like I'm kind of helping out more. I'm breaking the head around to possibly seeing the TKC. Is that sound? Yeah. I mean, it sounds bizarre but I mean the season goes by so fast already. So, when you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow it's already week 10. So now it's kind of, it gives you more time to kind of enjoy it and kind of savor it because you've got to be on your free fillet and refreshments for these crazy. But you don't want to spend all your time on the first post month of the year right? Oh yeah. There is a, not pace yourself that. I mean, there is a mindset for the season. Yeah, definitely. Definitely going to have the mental stability to handle all those weeks and all those practices. How much has Larry talked to you guys now in the last question right here? The 2016, 2017, 4 and a 5, 2, 5, 2, 1, so much.

How much has he talked to you about that? I mean, he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day. We watch the film. We see them all working together. We know what it could be. We know what it could become. So we know we're at the same, we're at the right place at the right time and God wanted us to be here and He knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and just perfect our craft together. And I feel like we all are just great individuals and we come together at something special. Great. You get like good coaches who believe in you and they give you the tools to go out there and just play with confidence. You're not out there doubting yourself. You got your teammates, you got your back. My first play when I got up there to see when to Zell, IGB and your main. First thing they say is like, no worry, just go out there and play with confidence. You know the tools, it's usual tools. It's just go out there and make a play. And where about a play coming to you? Where is your time and show job? You just do it. And then, like, say what Coach Roy is like, he gives me, he puts me in a position like at the drills we put in, the work we put in, the one on one, so I'm just going to go out there and perform at the highest level. How much better are you right now than maybe last month, before spring practice?

I mean, I got to lay better just because I've transitioned a little bit to the inside. I miss my style. I'm like, now I'm actually trying to catch technique. And it's often pepper is not always pressed at the line. So it's like not maybe to move my feet, move my hands, like see, like what I got to do just like just in case I got to go back in corner, I can plan off now. I'm very confident out there. Do you think that was a natural fit for you, or have you had to kind of convince yourself to transition around? I mean, I feel like it's natural fit for me because I feel like me, individually, I'm a fast learner, a fast learner, like, Coach has helped us learn fast. And like, because they're always honest about the techniques and stuff. So you, like, you might down, like, you pick up all the things you did, like, when we get out here, they coach us to like the techniques. So we used to go out there and play like fast spot. And it would have like, versus until you were able to go out there and just compete. Is that where you kind of stuck this spring, or do you get kind of mounted? So I've really been stuck there this spring a little bit, right? Whenever you get this, like, other things, I just bounce out there every once in a while.

Just like, just have fun. See if I still got it every once in a while. So it's as good as going to compete at most spots. You mentioned the technique. What technique tips and things that you had to pick up and learn from those walking from the beginning to the end? I mean, it's always like, he always, because what, coaches are asking hands, like, see it. You see it. Move your feet and then get your hands on the man. So it's like, when you get like, when you out there, you able to like process like the way the receiver comes off the ball, looking at the hips and seeing like the way he moves. And like, are you able to pick up like the row constant? You can get out of that. Like, so it's being like, other coach wants to me. Like, as a player and just like him breaking out football to you like one on one. It's like very beneficial. What was the hardest part of making that transition from outside in? I really say like, the corner you got your cover two, your cover three, your cover one, it's easy. And when you got nickel, there are so many responsibilities you got to see like the row concepts, you got to be able to process like diagnosed, rouse faster than what you got to do in a corner and just be able to like everything

is quid like a transition. You got to like, you got to move fast. You got to just learn to move fast. Is like game recognition where you think maybe from the most since you got to have that? I would definitely say, I would definitely say, has because how you get to like college, it's a little bit different. In high school, we don't got to worry about things like that. When you get to college in school like this, like your recognition of plays and like you know your jobs the way like the coverage as far as you play, understand all your teammates or pluses if you haven't feel. It's like it gets easy. What have you heard about it? It's very talented. He's a great dude. He's a humble guy. He's a humble guy. Great teammate. He's very supportive. He's like a guy that you don't want to wrong because you can feed off your energy because you can see like when you make a play. He's like, he like IGB. He's like IGB two-pointer. So he's like, when you get off there with guys like that with good energy, they make you play a little bit harder and it's like, when you make a play, it's out there and it's helping you. It's being out there with him. He's a good player.

One of those guys has a powerful kid. It's coming up higher. Obviously, it's the last few years. So there's probably a few years. Now what is it about one build that gets you to play at a high school? It's a big question. I know. Let me just ask a question because we have so many kids come out of glueville and just play at games. I leave schoolers and they like like chikes a big part of it because I mean, actually in a glueville everybody got a run of track like it's made. It's like you don't really get a choice. You're able to just like get out here and like know how to compete and then like, G like getting builds that mental toughness into you. So I'm like, have you like, I've heard now you got to be mentally tough because I'm in life. My whole life's not going to be easy. So it's like being out here being out with a P and when you down just pick yourself back up. I mean, that's what being is down for me and that's what being a tough one. I know we have to ask. QT, how would you describe the mentality of the defense right now? Getting this opportunity for a rematch for the world in? Yeah, hungry. Thank you. I mean, we know how the last time when we had a chip on our shoulder.

I mean, we were riding high before that game and we took that loss and we came back and had to make a couple changes. But I think we understand what everything's at stake right now. I'm just fighting to where another house, stage jersey for the next game. That's what's on stake and just to be able to represent this state and this team. I mean, we understand what's on the line and we're just hungry and blessed that we get this opportunity playing the Rose Bowl. Right behind your Adam King, WBNS. What do you remember most about walking off the field in Eugene? What was kind of all your eyes in that moment? I mean, there was a, I don't think anybody imagined it. Imagine us losing. I didn't, that's for sure. And I think after that it was a kind of head deep. I understand it that man, we still, there's still a lot of ball left to be played. I mean, you can let it sting for a little bit but if you let it carry over too long then, there it goes, there it goes your whole season by. I think we did a great job of just understanding, coming together in this room right here.

Not being afraid of display or hold accountability from one another. And as that happened, we came back, we grouped and we're just going right now. And I'm just blessed for those specific moments losing. I mean, no one wants to lose but the testimonies and the things you're taught within those little situations speaks of all of them. After all of our clarinet and drum. Jay, what did you see from King Yada in the last couple of weeks? Was there like a push from him? And there were many conversations with him. He can see that he's playing in some of the best football in Tennessee. Yeah, I mean, that's my boy. He's in the R2X club too, but, you know, Keata, I mean, every time his numbers call, he goes out there and makes the most of it, no matter where we are in the game. When he goes out there, he's just hungry. He wants to go make plays and, you know, we see it and practice. So it's not surprising to us. Bill Rebino, it's a bonus this back. Still on Gabriel's obviously very elusive and her talent.

And he's not very tall. How important it could be to just kind of stay in your past rush lanes and neglect a lot of balls and kind of make a difference that way? Yeah, I think it just comes on being disciplined. No one who you're playing against, like you said, Bill, he's a, he's sure but he's very elusive. I mean, he can, he is making throws. I mean, he get out the parking to everything. So I think for us, we just have to discipline and just continue to just meet with Coach Jay, meet with the coach knows and understand how we can just eliminate that. You're one question about you and Jack. I mean, your personality seems to be a little different. You're more on the quiet side. He's not. How about you play together four years, both five store guys, kind of describe your relationship with him, friendship with him and just kind of how you cop along each other? Man, that's my brother. Like you said, we're different but very alike. Think outside, like you said, he's louder and quiet but you know, once we're on that field, we're like the same person. We'll do anything for this team.

You know, we'll die for our players and we'll give everything we got. Room together for four years, correct? Yeah. Fall camp. Yeah, sometimes go over there. So go over there. So yeah. The neat one who's the messy one. We have our share of days when we when I'm neat, he's neat or you know, we might both be messy but we do a good job. Yeah, I'd probably say I would better kick in Jack though. Tony Gertman, like I've held. When you're playing a team for the second time and that was almost a season to go by now, how much of, are you at square one with with the scouting and preparation or how much do you take in that game? How much do you avoid taking so that you don't have any preconceived notions of what you're going up against on the offensive line? I say it's pretty 50-50. I mean, that game, like you said, it was a while ago but at the same time they elevated as a team and so did we. So we understand that they they had they made some changes for sure. You know, there's there's a certain density we can take back from that game but we also understand

that they went on a low run after that and we can see that they elevated as an offense. So we just got to continue to watch those games dissect the other games and just continue to see what stands out and what they change from the past game. We got a couple calls on zoom that will wrap up with first we have Nick Hamilton from Nightcast Media. Nick? I just wanted to ask you basically about the synergy of this defense and how you guys were able to not only celebrate the triumphs but get through the adversity be able to be this top-notch defense that you are in college football today. Here, Pete, the question one more time. Yeah, no problem. I wanted to ask you about the synergy you are we're able to develop over the course of the season obviously celebrating the triumphs but also getting through the adversities to where you go all all the top-notch defense that you all are today. Yeah, I mean like you said that we went through a lot of trials to trials but there's also there's a lot of things we can take away from all the wins and losses and from those those wins

we understood that hey we can be the best defensive country and from those losses we understand that there's still things that need be fixed and I think when you take all that in at once that comes out to the the common goal or the common talk which is you can there's always learning points everywhere and depending how we dissect those games or how we just continue to come as one and elevate you know we continue to just collect all those those learning points and just continue to grow from them. And one final question. Joey Coffin, Columbus Dispatch, Joey? JT what have you guys done better in the especially in the Tennessee game and just late in the season you think about turning some of the pressures that you've got on the quarterbacks and the sacks and getting home in some of those situations? Yeah I think it was more just understanding the defense as a whole understanding everybody's job thing as the season went on we had to understand that and we have to know what's going on in the backhand we have to know what's going on to align back recruit to understand what plays we have

room of freedom and I think once we understood that and got a better understanding of the of everybody's job I mean it it showed this play because you know everybody knows we each other's doing it's not like the lineback is not what they're doing the corners and BI they know only their job I think we all know each other's job and we continue to ask each other questions on you know if they're listening how they can get to the quarterback and you know if I'm dropping and playing quarterbacks but I can ask Cody on how to open field tackle so you know we just we just kind of lean on each other's understanding because you know like I said like Denzel knows I'd play corner-bedded and I know I'd play corner so you know he has more more wisdom at that position than I do. JT thank you very much. Thank you. Just ready to move in like Devon and Bob. Definitely a little bit of both. Obviously I just want to the team to win I think we got a chance to win. No definitely towards it and to stretch that last drive. I was a couple plays here a couple calls that he made me sure I've gotten but I think the

frustration more so it just comes from no wanting to win or anything. Of course he said he was a little surprised how much attention you got right away from your defense. I have a year. Yeah definitely. We maybe killed him or one of ones kind of how the game plan was set up. You didn't got like no different covers out of cloud to my side and this is kind of how the game goes. Why would the process been like Devon? Sometimes we're for whatever reason just just just see that. Yeah definitely. Especially in college a lot of the game fans defensively were taking you like. You know we had a lot of success at a high-alt state obviously one of the ball had a different the weapons and kind of still get the victories and I was yeah you continue to do better jobs Why are you taking the process in the process been like post game getting on the same page with Kyler just you guys exchanged text or you guys getting the film? Yeah film definitely kind of asking what did I see there kind of go over and play and I just try to get him what I saw and kind of different feedback to change words.

Mark I get it we're asking questions about the previous game bar. Are you the type of guy to let a game like that winger or how do you flush it? You got to move on got to move on some long season guy. So at 16 more of them hopefully no I can stay healthy throughout the year and just continue to build and get better each week. You guys did so much work throughout the off season to get on the same page. How different is it when you get into that regular season? Yeah it's totally different it's totally different. You could do a lot of things you know in shirts and shorts and then once you go out there put practice and you got pads on you do like the joint practice you get with the colds but there's nothing like actually going out there in live action and really trying to get the same case so I think that would really should continue to develop and look better. Is that it just a matter of rubs them as much as they can? Yeah definitely definitely. Like I said I was kind of my first live action together so it can continue to be between. When you're early impressions on the film together and the yeah but now obviously I have a death certificate that JG's call or preseason and I obviously be off of really healthy that's kind of the best and most important thing that I was

to get a lot of healthy even going forward so um that's it I can say. Marvin what are your early impressions of the Rams? What do you think of the Rams? Yeah I mean they're a good team they're good physical team they got a new lot of new guys up front I think that's kind of where they're strong so it is kind of a little different to Buffalo come over a little match coverage so I'm excited to build this one. Personally when the belts take taking one of them out it's how do you feel today? Yeah. Wasn't many of them. Oh nice. Wasn't many of them so uh I thought I could be good. How much were you thinking versus just playing you know not getting a preseason game actually? I think it was three season. It was definitely definitely thinking a lot out there and um you know I think I'll come with reps I think the thinking less and just going out there and playing definitely come with reps and it's something you know I'll get better at but I think definitely say I was thinking a lot out there. Is there anything you can do to bring that that's from a coverage and I think the past is you're you're going to finish that a lot on the side. Yeah I mean you just got to team you get open for yourself making yourself available uh the one the ball does anyway making the play um this

he can just taking you away that means other guys are having a chance to get open so uh that's not kind of how I look at it it's no longer since the senior law offense it's the best thing of course. That kind of thing would be with Tyler. Is this something that comes pretty quickly on a new game or something like that? Hopefully sooner or later I think um I'll look at team to see we'll see. I don't think we're in a bad place right now at all obviously I don't think that but uh just a live reps will continue to grow and show. I felt team captain like specifically and I felt I wasn't a captain at high school wasn't a captain in college but I want to make a joke around with high schools. Yeah I feel like I'm not even a captain like it's that I felt. Yeah.

Um but that would be awesome you know but you know that happens up you great but not either way I want to assume a role as a captain from the perspective of guys wanting to be a visual word and to get back to that point. Yeah I mean I can't say that um I mean I guess the biggest thing is that I felt like how you used to move past but it didn't take just the first LTAs it took training left and right once this season and because I know what it was going to be. So I think a lot of reps um just to get back to feeling like myself for day one LTAs and then that whole first week but now like today specifically just changing some small things with my feet that is they talking about the long coach. I've some things I'm doing my feet to get to that to sell my nutritional handle that I love to sit on. Thought even I thought I felt I thought I felt great already but I'm okay I

felt even better. Sorry the more excited tomorrow now I'm getting my feet back and how I like the right side and on the left side so I'm excited. I mean obviously I feel like um in the league whether I left or right you're still going against premier guys obviously they're high expectations for the left hand or high tackle but um there's definitely like the level of energy and like the expectation definitely taking the human side because now can I apply side that's the as the tackle well you know so um so yeah I would say in terms of communications far as this even outside of facility you just stuff like that like really creating that but tackle quarterback and bond even more off the field I think has been something that's even done cool. I got the text one day because I had you put it left I was like you know yeah I've been training both I've been training both you know I had stuff with season there like honestly you know we'll talk

you so please season and I just got a text on having what happens with the free agency then so I was like you know what I had a O season right tackle so if I get the word I'm going I'm staying right tackle you know you do what I did before I'm built on that but I was almost trained the left tackle now as if we're going to be left tackle and I'd rather do that than training on right time we're the co-a you know what I mean so I'm like let me just prepare an advance I'll say yeah it's got you know I think occasionally I'm very down there be a lot of twists I was just not like it's on on a magical time and I think that was my mindset for like the first half of the season like I didn't have to go once again with some positive I kind of figured okay like this is this is the type of rush I mean again this is how this guy usually rushes if I get the vibe this time begins like the rush you know tackles that first year guys you got to print your patch on already you know what it was going to be already

you know will be every stud and honestly just knowing that's kind of an advantage to so you're not you're not you're not oh the brother's whistle my psyche it was never airy-dumbed but it come out the hot like three plays in the world in two minutes I do that it was a little bit sad to laugh you know what I mean I'm watching more everybody else and you really you know it goes out there occasionally third down I was like you know he's gonna take me you know what I mean so effect it's kind of it's also kind of an engine away but it's also exciting like okay I'm gonna get the hardest look you know those are the real real reps you know the things really out on our way to kind of process that I was like hey when I tell me let me know about I'm just gonna train it I was training all left to TAs I guess if I didn't hear anything about TAs I would came in like so you know what I mean because just like I'm cool with training both continue I would have been cool training both continually but

I feel like anybody any position will be like okay like you want as soon as possible give your feet settled in your hips settled in your hands so then a certain kind of that we would have been harder than you work both very healthy no but they're definitely but sometimes the development is definitely a lot faster to stand on one side but I think having that the weeks that we had the transitional seasons over and the bike goes fine you know okay I'm trying to get up put on my bike having weak things at a time right now but when it comes back I'm gonna show me my house I've got a house not too far from so I told him I got that house like I got a yellow outside like DJ you know I mean so yeah I just doesn't have any stock or anything doesn't mean anything so

we're we have to play on Friday and that's really all that matters we're gonna take two more from zoom before turning it back our first one's gonna come from Stephen from Cleveland.com go ahead well it's the fun I'm sorry hey Caleb we've seen you were talking about the Ohio State Office the success that they've had obviously Jeremiah has been a big part of that what's it been like this year going against him in practice and you know after doing that this is a surprise at all to see him having a success he's had as a freshman no it doesn't bring surprises it was pretty pretty easy to see the talent that he has and the blessings that God has put on his plate but it's always a it's always a challenge going against Jeremiah and the other receivers and Mecca and Carnell in practice and even guys like Brandon and his impression Rogers they do a great job bringing looks for the defense and create a lot of obstacles. I'll find a question from zoom is going to come from Dan Hope. Go ahead Dan. Caleb you Quinn had a lot of success against you guys when you

played him at Alabama last year just what do you remember from going up against him last year and what can you learn from that game? Really smart quarterback knows how to operate their offense possible in the right places and then of course our Keeson does a great job putting him in positions to win. Jerry back to you. Thank you Rob Aller Columbus dispatch Caleb JT and Jack Lannops's side so they is opposite off the field as they are on in terms of personality and just the people they are. They're offices but they also like one of the closest people I know they spend a lot of time together. They've come from different sides of the country so they're different people for sure but they're both really great people are really great men I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm not going to do that.

Throughout the season we would always see you on Wednesday nights you and late and we'll be some of the last people off the field. The things that you're working on after a practice always the same is it a routine what are the things that you're hoping to get out of those extra moments after practice? So routine pretty much the the keys that we need to go into the game with and then also changes week to week on based on what our jobs are going to put us into doing so every week we go through the same things and then we add certain things that we do for the what the team that we play is going to ask us to accommodate. Bill we're bit of a problem is dispatch yeah I already got one here okay uh Joey Gothman club is dispatch Cuban one takes us to use his play action and basically use play action to curb it what's what do they do well and those spots and what's the best you guys in those moments with Quinn? They do a really good job with I candy and it creates a lot of challenges for defense in order to see if it's runner pass and see um because that's

when they're going to take their shots too as well so really just having great eye discipline seeing the line is seeing what it's telling us um so that's just what it does. Deep break uh Nick Walker Letterman role? Hey look you guys had a pretty good game plan for Tyler Warren when you guys played him you guys have another technicals that you've tied in and got around what are you guys gonna have to do to limit him and how do what do you think about his game? Uh he's a really good player he makes a lot of plays and he's has a lot of receiving arts this year um so really just do the same thing we've done all year just be disciplined in our responsibilities and if you're on them you got to make a play when it comes Right one of the mandra bill is uh playman.com when you think their receivers is kind of a whole you know they spread ball around seems like a lot of what stands out about you know the way that they can spread the ball around with the guys. Well a lot of really good athletes um I play with Isaiah Bond Lasser who's a really great receiver a lot of speed um and then all the receivers have made a lot of plays so I mean everybody has to be on that

peasy queue as if we're gonna stop them and uh have a do a really good job. Uh brother on your 10 May Letterman role? Yeah kill but you moved up here and I don't have to get to tell you when you move basically a year ago and stuff it was a little bit of a leap of faith because you know you know how many athletes are on this team and get athletes to but when did you really feel this defense come into its own and then then past that man watching in Rose Bowl you you recognition of what was coming seem to be on point did it feel like that? I mean you personally um I think the defenses played really well throughout the season uh I think we've had games where we played better and games where we haven't put it all together but I think that's how all defenses are um so I can't say there's a certain moment where I think we put it together um but what's your second part of your question? You seem really on point uh against Oregon about recognizing what was what was coming I mean you were really active out there directing and things like that did it feel like that

I guess? Uh I feel like as Luke said earlier the preparation that we put in goes into that and just feeling comfortable and what we're doing comfortable and what we're seeing with the other teams I feel like that's uh that allows us to play fast and can uh me and Laketon to communicate everybody else Do I miss anyone for questions here? Steve how long in 24-7 sports? Yeah Caleb but you came to Ohio State to play for national championship and there were a lot of ups and downs throughout the season just to be in this position the last four teams still live just you feel validated by that and did you always have faith that this is how it was going to I came to Ohio State to become a better player and to help the team be as good as it can be not to win a national championship not like that wasn't the only goal for me coming here really just wanted to be in the team and be my be with the brotherhood um but it's a it's a great feeling being in the final four and being with the team and everything that comes with that but it's a blessing to be here and one final question Bill Reben once

I did want to follow when I talked just at the after the game you said when they scored their first and second touchdown you were really hot on the sidelines what was what was your message to the team and you know that's a good off that they're going to score against most people why were you so hot really just because we didn't execute which let them score so um we've done that a lot which is something we can't do in these big games and these games where um it's when I go home so we got to make the plays when they come and get our competitive excellence as coach Dases make the play where your numbers call Caleb thank you very much I feel like they're definitely picking up quick I mean I was in their shoes one time and I had Zach Harrison and Javonte and Tyler Friedell in front of me so I was just trying to be kind of one of those peers that they were for me and kind of just given them the steps to get there and I feel like they're definitely picking up quick and they're definitely going to be one of the great freshmen so we coach Josh and Sox and so on. JT and Jack are going to need a ton of

their experience so you have some opportunities for you which are a lot of them is there a difference in the work going because you've been getting through Apple Camp and the last couple? um I feel like all the camps I've definitely got in a big course learn and I love that so I asked Coach J4 I love getting more reps because I just like perfecting my craft so I mean some people may not need it some people need it but I mean I'm just like to be as many reps as I can be with I mean for me it's always just kind of getting my little details perfectly like my steps my footing kind of just perfecting my toolboxes what we call it and my craft and just trying to be a second winner every place we're trying to do yeah um definitely just getting stronger faster everything all they above but uh one of my big things is being a leader and kind of just not trying to look still look up to Jack and JT and kind of have my own kind of leadership and be able to

bring people into so I feel like kind of have a lot of leaders on the D line and at the D position so we kind of all kind of just counts off the chiller and sometimes um it's competitive and we love it we all competitive people we all love to fish together and I feel like the springing the best out of all is we're like we're all just kind of bouncing off each other and seeing what one person does and we kind of better than the archival box and we all kind of just kind of build one great thing one you have a role last year and you got to get the shot of pull back in the boat and uh did they approach you with that idea and you could touch them I mean I didn't come about because you heard Jack's all your plot being okay to get the test done uh so I definitely did it in high school I was pulled back and a little bit tighted and so I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there in Coach Wilson honestly you love watching it too before you left and uh

felt he playing that seed in Coach Day's head and uh Coach Day kind of just went for it and uh tried to do the best I could to do it. Exactly chin ring now I mean do you need anything in the screen? New play about Guaidemano yeah we've got that far um I like to think myself as a football player I can really play any position on the field you need me to just give me a weaker two to learn it and kind of perfect it and uh try to do my best for you. Kid Jack do the same thing. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Graphically that's what Kid is just talking to Coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and sort of saw you and got out to have some conversations after JT and Jack decided to come back just got to win into those movies and started doing them and how did that help you really get the right mindset I guess when you did this. Um definitely kind of seeing it all the way through I feel like uh people kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it how long the season is now what you got to do to prepare for and what happened and all that time from here to to then so uh I feel like we definitely just

coached in me kind of connected and we kind of just talks man-to-man and uh he kind of just said straight to me and I feel like I'm kind of both a person. I mean no one's making it yada. I'm making each other better every day and we got the four best D N's five best D N's honestly and the college football and we're going to be one of the best D lines and college football. What do you feel like the better player today than you were in this season? Um I feel like I'm taking big steps in my roles uh just being responsible and being more of a leader and uh kind of stepping up and taking a step to kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in and uh feel like we kind of helping out more. How do you recommend a pass out to a TKHC? It's excellent. I mean it sounds bizarre but I mean the season goes by so fast already so and you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow it's already week 10 so now it's kind of it's a little more time to kind of enjoy it and kind of save it because you've come already here for like a freshman's first place crazy. It's here once been on your calendar for the first month of the year right?

Oh yeah. There is a not pace yourself that. I mean there's a mindset that I did that the season. Yeah definitely definitely going to have to have the mental stability to handle all those weeks and all those practices. How much has Larry talked to you guys around like that? Last question right here. Okay, 2016, 2017, four and a five two five two nine, so much has he talked to that guy? I mean he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day. We watched the film. We see him all working together. We know what it could be. We know we could become so we know we we're right in the same we're at the right place at the right time and God wanted us to be here and he knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and uh just perfect our craft together and I feel like we all are just great individuals and we come together and something special. Great. Doing it. What what what the deliberation. I'm surprised it's even a conversation like it should always be live. Let's tell you. Tell you. Tell you but football. So obviously there's a proximity to the season which is it's a little reckless I understand that but in spring we're competing for jobs. I mean if I'm

a quarterback I'm asking to be live so I can show him how I'm different than you know anyone that can't be live you know what I mean they're always trying to find an edge and if you're never fully alive I don't think you fully give guys opportunity to to be who they want to be or who they can be so that being said you know I will cast my vote but that will not be my final decision on that but I will cast my vote. The guys have handled it well. It was good for all parties involved and uh more we can do that the better but I'm sure that is coming to a close here very quickly so. General Maya off the field we saw after practice on the Saturday that the mob that came to to autograph some things when when you're working with him on all these things you're talking about but also dealing with the life of being one of the biggest names in college football how do you help mentor him in that aspect? Yeah I mean it's a blessing to be able to be in a position where

you know can provide insight or I wouldn't say recommendations but just you know give perspective what how he chooses to receive the perspective or not one and not me he always does but which is fine but to be in that position is really humbling that being said he does a really good job on his own he doesn't need to check the one too much he's really done a great job again the way he was raised and his morals and humble would always sign and taking pictures I'm always trying to be the bad guy for him because he's not going to be and uh just says again more about his character uh but he's not the only I mean he's not the only guy any guy would kind of do that we have a group full of awesome young guys uh but General Maya has done a great job with it and handling it and uh it's definitely growing at an exponential rate to say the least uh but um I think he's built for it and he's been handled at a high level uh but oh those around them were trying to help him out a little bit what made uh Quincy the first freshman to do this black striker mission uh uh

yeah I mean uh that's a good question I think that uh you know frankly you know it I don't I know I'm not really fully involved with that so I can be but I wasn't you know I think that people on the outside would it be defense or even coach day or anybody brought it to my attention you know we're kind of just going about practice and that's our expectation and make plays not make mistakes um and he was starting to make a lot of a lot of plays consistently and I think the consistent level uh that he's been as a person uh being on being on time and and doing what his job description on each play and the ball is coming your way and making some big plays and uh you know it starts it starts being seen by your peers and your peers are asking for they start barking getting a stripe off all those kind of things that's the ultimate sign of respect I think uh with your peers um you know go to your bat and he's not going for his bat no one out people are bringing it to your position coach I think it uh speaks volumes of the uh the general respect that you're earning uh through the process so I think it's something like that happened

and uh you know this will deserve based on his peers and the other coaches Ryan Day was talking about how impressed he's been this spring with Austin Sareville all that he's been able to do and Tyler Bohn was talking last week about the importance of the cross-training and all that that goes into that just how much have you seen Austin benefit from this spring and everywhere that he's been and how big of a piece do you think he's going to be regardless of where he fits on his offensive line yeah I think Austin's been awesome I mean he literally you know what was they say he played every split every position we just move around you know and uh he handles it and you know he's one of those guys I feel like you watch film over and over again day after day and his name never really gets brought up you know in a good way like he on the online your name gets brought up when uh usually not going as well you know I mean they're literally at the point of the attack on every single play so there's nowhere to hide and so uh but Austin when his name gets brought up it's like man that was a good job right good job pass off that combo whatever it's it's always positive and uh they're really impressed with him you start in the winter

to a great job through the winter um again continuing to build their respect for his peers and then he's gonna good job really good job just being uh very consistent through spring our left Jeff Gilbert press pros Ryan and since you've been working more with the whole offense it comes to quarterback play what has grown in your I don't know appreciation of that position and what those guys have to do and go through what do you think more about those guys versus maybe what you thought before it's just a wide receiver guy yeah I mean I mean there's no just a wide receiver guy if you are just wide receiver guy you won't be a very late or long it's all about it's all about quarterback play you know so I think in that same world though to the point is that you know in order to be a great receiver or a great receiver or you know receiver guy whatever you want to call it uh there's only one page just the quarterbacks page so everything is based off them there whether they're progression they're timing the stresses they have is what we're trying to minimize so uh if you don't fully understand the quarterback play it's hard to you know maximize

receiver play I think you know uh that being said um yeah I mean I'm still always learning you know I think that uh I can't say anything's jumped out massively right now uh but I would say that uh you know I I guess I would say that the preparation level I mean the what is required to execute and play at a high level it's just not capable in the a lot of time right I mean there's only so much time where I'd be with players if you're not willing to spend you know your own time getting prepared for practice to be uh to maximize one's ability uh there's a good chance you're not going to maximize your ability so you know other positions I mean all I'm same thing I mean receiver play sometimes can can you know get away from it we do a great job studying and being in the room extra for sure but the requirement of a quarterback to know uh the fixed protections uh the BR run game coordinator based on the calls you know to get us in different checks I mean there's so much to need to know and uh and frankly uh the you know the old line's only as good as the

quarterback the receiver's line is good as the quarterback the offense is only as good as the quarterback and it's our responsibility to put guys in position to maximize what they're capable of maximizing but their inability uh to notice that they need to spend extra time outside the a lot of time I think it's critical and the amount that it takes I guess that was maybe a little naive too but uh the guys are doing a great job doing it. At the time just a couple more coaches got a meeting uh Rob Aller Columbus dispatch yeah Brian you know you get to reach the mount top you got to ban around their national champs I think you keep these guys grounded being in the moment looking ahead not back do you are you tougher on them because no I think that I mean I think we have a lot of guys you know what I think it's understanding that we were trying to build the map to get to where you wanted to get to but now that we have the map doesn't mean we've traveled the path so like we know what it looks like the guys that are here know what it's supposed to look like the guys before us

say I'm believe we'll example how to get to where you want to get to um so the focus is on trying to you know replicate what they just did and how they operated we can't say we've done that right now so it's very easy to stay motivating because they already know it's not good enough frankly and so uh the last thing they want to do is put in a ton of effort and then not reach their goals so motivation I don't think is needed I think there is a catching up of those and maybe aren't quite sure what it takes you know and but overall um motivation is not what we've needed clarity of message is definitely what we've been focused on and uh I think the message is being received so um not concerned about you know motivation and and the uh uh looking back if you will I think everyone's pretty pretty focused on being forward and knowing we haven't accomplished anything so Steve and me is Cleveland Doctor Um Who would you say is the leader of your water secret room right now? I would say Cornell Tate Brendan Innis uh probably done the most most outspoken you know in the room

uh yeah I would say they're doing a good job those are probably the two guys that would jump out of my room yep I mean Brandon he's been in vocal obviously Cornell taking on that role yeah more and being more vocal he's a good football player obviously and he's the only other but that process for him and becoming a more vocal leader to free to say that on him what was the question? Carna, like what have you seen like the growth of it? uh yeah I mean he's I think he's pulled guys aside you know it had one-on-one conversations with him uh he's locked in uh you know just I think he saw the impact that I met him made and uh the role he played and to think that we're gonna lose that and then be a better group probably doesn't mathematically make sense to him so someone's got to set up in that role and one and one respects him too he knows he's capable of it and uh it's just the desire and the appreciation I think to be at the order table now at the overhead and uh and appreciate the way I met could probably win about his his business and so um he probably valued that appreciated that

and he's just being assured we still have that. Final question, Bill Rebino, what's going on this this back? Could you assess the running back room? I think it's pretty much assumed both those running backs to CJ and uh that James think that's hand in systems probably the way you've got to go again. How do you think it's working and you see third and maybe fourth guys up in them there? I think that you know college football uh we're in a football. Any football really you got to have depth in running back room. I think that uh it's very apparent in the NFL it's usually a two back system you know very very rarely is it one guy uh but in college I think we saw the benefit of that last year uh the ability to complement each other is really important and the ability for us to identify what they do great and put them in good positions to be what they are uh what their best at I should say uh it's really important as a coaching staff. It's been very impressed with uh even the younger guys Sam and and uh Bo and the way they've come along um the consistency so what you're chasing right you're always able to that's why you're here

but how often you do it ultimately dictates how much you play so but uh overall I think locksmith on them they'd understand the standard and in pass pro and uh not being a guy we got to sell out because you can't pass protect so we were blessed what especially with Trey last year and and quenching on so um but no these guys have done a good job they're competing uh they've been very coachable uh you know it's it's it's shown a plot on film um but uh yeah I mean it's always hard on backs I mean every opportunity you get to go live and and break tackles really gives you the most feedback on what these guys are capable of you're just playing tag out there you never get any art at least you shouldn't uh but the running backs um you know on contact days it's done a good job James has done a really good job growing really excited about him everyone's really excited about him and CJ um so uh you know I think ultimately now group the uh hug will all go with the group B is probably based on you know the top the bottom rising right I mean you

are gonna have some guys at the top but you know where's the floor and so I think uh uh Bo and Sam has done a really good job and many some more guys to get healthy and more more guys on campus but uh very encouraged and you saw him improve and then um McLean I think is a is a great plus I mean he is a guy that has football and intelligence he's picked it up you know he's kind of of those incoming freshmen who still should be in high school he's a guy I think you're going to point to and you can see right now he's going to be a player over to the right Austin Ward the podcast a healthy Mitchell Melton how does he fit in for your defense what does he bring to it yeah he's you know Mitch is that combination player you know in um in our four down um you know he's a guy that can do a lot of things uh drop fold in there and make plays you see some of that all the time really athletic um you know we're kind of loaded at that end position so he's going to play

there but you know like I said last year and we we haven't needed it but he's a guy you would point to along with CJ Hicks you know for the for the long season um people get injured you get a little light inside it's always hard on the defensive tackles but if you're going to play with uh three ends you know that's Mitch is a guy who definitely can do all that he has that over to the left Joey Kaufman Columbus dispatch Jim you've talked about this before but I think in pastures where you're going up against uh a really talented receiver group offense to encourage your players to uh it's not okay if they give up the play and to go nearly almost the first half today where you the offense didn't get in the end zone until the late in the second half just and you guys have guys down the second area just what what did you think of of that sort of trend and how it's evolved in the way you guys almost shut him out the first time yeah I think it's become um you know an expectation now um you know our DB's you know our BIA best in America we led the country in past defense

right I think uh it was 96 what I uh what I got here and it was number one last year so they've they've taken that spirit so it's a competitive spirit it's an expectation now it doesn't matter who we're going against it's it's they view it as a standard so that was good to see in the first first half over to the right Spencer Holbrooke Letterman role Jim we've talked about safety changing the way that you play defense and the Leo and the linebackers but how much does having the depth that you guys have a defensive tackle change the way that you can do things defensively yeah I mean you're going to play to your strengths you know and uh that's that's my job is to what do we have and what do we do best and when you have defensive tackles um and I've said it before it it helped our defense so much last year when you have defensive tackles that actually make tackles which is what we have right now it changes the way you call a game you know it certainly helps you be um

in better shape on explosive plays on the back end you you don't have to do a whole lot to help those guys out because they're making tackles so you got to go you got to go with that you know you got to you got to let those guys play and and and they're good so um you can't get too far away from the scheme of having those defensive tackles make place because they're doing it and it works uh over to the left Tony Gurdman Buckeye Huddle Jim Ryan talked about the quarterback run being more of a thing with the offense cheer during the season how much of when you're facing a team like that how much does that impact your day to day throughout the week preparing for that yeah it's a ton you know it I think it changes everything you do on defense um you see it everywhere from the NFL on down if you have a quarterback who can make plays with his feet your scheme better be designed that you know to to take that away into account for it so it changes the way you look at everything when you're game planning thank you Donovan over here to the right uh Tim May

to the Tim May podcast when I asked uh Ryan about just for example Calvin Simpson Hunt but the uh corner scene did you play in almost with the chip owner shelter to a certain xtanami Davis and Nick Benoson took today personally it looked like you know to make is uh some of the height going into the game but what what do you see from that group in particular that who is you going into this offseason yeah when you can when you have corners that you can count on again it's just like having defense of tackles in the run game when you have corners you can count on that are going to compete all the time no matter what the situation is and we've developed that again it changes the way you call the entire game I mean you you're you're able to leave those guys on an island you're able to switch out coverages and they know what they're doing and they take great pride in it so having those guys out there in the development it's a big deal it really is

yeah I mean he's he did come in late and you know um he compete he's one of those guys that just competes every day doesn't say much you know he's trying to live up to the standard or the other guys and you you see him coming along you know you see him step by step coming along and and you know put him in a you know competitive atmosphere see him step up that's a great sign and final question for coach Knowles Dan Hope 11 Warriors you mentioned CJ Hicks a few minutes ago have you seen him take the strides you need to see the spring to trust him as a guy who could be a potential starter on his defense yes I mean uh I think CJ has shown that uh he has talent and I think it's my job to put him in the best situations for him because he can be a force um you know he's much better when he's bloodsing or he's directed because he's able to use his athletic

ability but he has certainly shown that he's going to be able to help this defense coach thank you very much for your time all right and uh we will bring uh offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach chip Kelly to the podium now we'll open up the questions over to the left bill Rebenowitz Columbus dispatch chip um what are your just general impressions of the offense coming out of spring especially quarterback we'll look at all 15 so I think you know uh this day is is a big part of it you know because it was the first time they were going to play some of those guys that were going to play in from the crowd and that was an amazing crowd you need to get 80,000 for spring game now you could see some of the young guys kind of looking around like wow this is different in the indoor um but that's what they have to get ready to play it so um we got better from practice one practice 15 you know it's still in evaluation through the whole process but um it's not something in in the players bill too that we we're not making a decision walking off the field today saying hey this is the direction that we're going in we'll we'll be very authentic and and look through everything

and make sure that we get a really good feel for what it all looks like and then who will best move this offense that's that's what our decision's gonna be based on I do I think we got a lot of guys there um that part's tough I think because you got you there's guys that deserve reps you know and they're all competing for it so you know sometimes you'd like to be sometimes when you had a guy who's an initial starter well he's gonna get the bulk of the reps he got him better but um they capitalize on it we really rolled him you know if you were at some of our screen practices you're watching all those guys rotate in rotate out um and as we talk about all the time you know the old adges is don't count your reps make your reps count you know when we'll put it all together and really come up with you know which guy do we really feel is gonna make gonna help us move this offensively over to the far right bill landis the podcast kings of the north hey chip um you said when we first talked to you that the the basis of a lot of your success running the football just kind of figuring out what your guys do best and then leading into that over 15 practices now how good of a field do you think you have for that and then what are the next few months look like as you try to piece that all together really good question um it's it's interesting because the

one thing that I think sometimes makes it tough and an evaluation is what a good front we want to get um you know so for 15 practices those guys on the other side of the ball were pain you know jack and jt and tylie can those guys but I know come fall there's not gonna be anybody more happy that we have those guys in the defense side of all because of what they can do so um I still think we'll have to really evaluate that what we're good at what we're not what we gotta get better on what we gotta work on but I think the work we got against such a quality defense was uh was really key for us uh over to the far left nathan baird cleveland dot com so you were go at this time um it came out of the spring with still a lot of question marks about the offensive line um and even I guess that last season came out with question marks what have you seen that progress in the time that you've been here and and what's your confidence level that that offensive line is gonna allow this offense to do everything it wants to do this fall yeah I mean I've been here short amount of time so I didn't know I really don't have anything to compare to so I kind of tabula rasa come in with a blank slate and just observe it and I think we're really athletic um I

think dhani and and and Seth and those guys inside are really smart and really intelligent um they allow you to to be able to make adjustments in game um just talking football with some of those guys it's like well this these guys are wired the right way and a lot of those guys have played a lot of football so um they can bank on their experience there you know I think we we've got about four guys that have played significant amount of snaps and we gotta make sure we can find out who the fifth guy is um but that's similar to where the quarterback spot is I think and I also think in the offensive line you you're not gonna play a 16-17 game season and just playing the five guys you know you really have to develop your depth there um there's gonna be a number two center that's gonna play a lot of football it's gonna be a number two guard whether it's on either side of the ball there's gonna be a third tackle I think you you're gonna get tested especially with this new in this new playoff format you really have to think that way so you know you're not looking for five starters you're really looking for 10 starters because you're gonna have to you're gonna have to probably play 10 guys to get when you get through a 16-17 game season over to the right Austin Ward the podcast chip I think it was the first play of the game the T formation and then the

reverse I don't know spin move with Will Howard understand what's the inspiration for that package and that sort of uh rink of what the quarterback mr. Hayes do you have uh there's a looming figure around this whole program you know we get to go to work every day and then Woody Hayes athletic center so um there's good enough for Woody we're gonna stay with we we're gonna do it we ran some last year I think we took 21 snaps at UCLA and T put a short yardage formation for us and we've done some different things with it but also I think our players had a lot of fun you know practicing that and doing some different things so it's a small part of our offense you know we will not be in the T 21 times in one game but you know we may get it in some short yardage situations and I think it's come back there's a lot of schools right now that um are starting to do that you know it's really just you're trying to you know you got a half a yard to get you know you're trying to get your big guys in the game and I think we use three tight ends and two running backs in our formation today with Packard being the the full back in that situation so um there's a lot of different things you can do in short yardage but

a little bit of a tribute to coach coach Hayes and and then what he means to this program. Joey Kaufman Columbus dispatch over to the left. Chip did you look back now you've been here two months 15 spring practices or something you feel best about what you've been able to accomplish with this offense? Well I haven't accomplished anything because I didn't take a snap but um I think the most impressive thing since that banner is how close close as football team is you know some programs talk about a brotherhood there this is really a brotherhood um our practices as we talked about how good our defense is it's they're highly competitive but they're not combative and and those guys really work very very well together both the whole line of the D line the secondary and the receivers um the competition is the but it's got to be the best there is in the country you know and that makes you better but I think sometimes competition you know guys can lash out and it gets really combative and then all of a sudden the fight breaks out and the fight breaks out and we're trying to accomplish and get footballed on but I think the way these guys cooperating work together as a group uh as a special bond and I think you're you're going to need the the the closest team and the most connected teams on the ones that win uh over to the right here

Andy Baxter on Letterman role. Chip obviously there's been a lot of talk about Jeremiah but Ameka is the big return in this group he kind of reminded everyone what he can do today what's it been like working with him and what kind of weapon can he be for you guys. Good point and Ameka has reminded me and the other 14 practice sessions of what he can do special player you know and and and JJ is a really talented player also but you know I think I think all of the the whole group and Cornell tape did some really good things watching him this spring and for all of them you know I mentioned it with the elephant spline I I came in with the blank slate and I had no opinions formed not that really just wide eyed and just observed them but you know that I think that wide-receiving is really special and I think there's a bunch of guys in there and again you have to play multiple multiple games after the regular season is over you're going to make sure you're going to need depth like that and the fact that it's you feel a little bit comfortable right now that we got some guys there that can make some plays on the perimeter and that really dictates how people are going to defend you know so you got a couple really good running back you

know so are they going to load the box are you really going to load the box and leave those guys in one-on-one coverage well then it's the quarterback responsibility to decipher that and get the ball of those guys so or do they at least a double coverage they list a double coverage and now it's a little bit lighter box and you can run the ball so having too many weapons is a good problem to have second roll left pat Murphy 24-7 sports chip we've talked a lot about kind of the quarterbacks maybe vying for the the starting spot but some of the younger guys what have you seen from them we got an opportunity to see more of them today than we probably have what's your assessment of of them as they kind of get in this I always am so impressed with young guys that enroll early in watching how they get acclimated and what they do you know when you look at Julian and Aaron and JJ you know they should be in the hot lunch line of their high school and they're out here playing in front of 80,000 people and they've really progressed when you watch them in meetings and listen to them and they interpret you know so basically the whole concept

too is we throw them in the deep end and see if they can swim you know this we didn't maybe anything we don't put the in-sell in with hey you guys are in stop we're an install this with the older players and then you guys you know go sit at the kitty table and we're just going to do the really simple things with you you know they get it all and the more they can digest the more when you're in a room when you're checking for understanding and asking questions and they can spit back to you the more confidence you have when they get in there with the plays that you can call for them so um those guys have been in process they're still learning you know they were the the guys today that were kind of looking around and saying why there's like 80,000 people here along with the offensive coordinator and the quarterback coach because I was kind of looking around because I had actually never been in the stadium until yesterday when we had our 14th practice in there so I played Ohio State once when I was at Oregon but that was in the Rose Bulls I had never been actually in the stadium until yesterday so I caught myself when I went into the stadium today looking around saying 80,000 for spring game that's impressive. Got time for just a few more folks

over here to the right Dylan Davis Delaware Gazette. Given what you just said about throwing them into the deep end what stood out the most about Julian's progression through 15 practices and where he is as you guys head out of spring. Julian is a very fast processor you know he he really thinks very very quickly on his feet like he he makes really quick decisions he doesn't stick on and read he can progress and any ceasing is really well for for a young player you know in not having been exposed to a lot of college defenses and especially what Jim does you know Jim Jim can make Jim can make a young freshman quarterback cry with some of the stuff he does but you know I never saw that with Jules and I that's been in press of his his ability to to retain and you know him and JJ the compliment I would say them is if you got here and you didn't know what class they were and you wouldn't say that those guys are freshmen in terms of how they've picked things up and you know sometimes freshmen act like freshmen but the guys who are special they don't act like

freshmen you know they act like football players and those are two guys that are are examples of that. Far left Cameron T. Robinson the athletic chip you on the topic of freshmen James Peoples of Sam got on the second half yeah you talk about how deep you need to be in this era of college football but as you search for RB three what did you see from them today and what is what is their growth been like in this spring? Yeah James really flashed early for for me not knowing again kind of let's just take don't worry about what the background is where they're from who they are the this guy of this stars that's kind of that stars it's they're all bakais and there's how they do it I think James has got really good feel and vision he can hit things I thought Sam did some really good things today T.C. is another guy who really came along during the spring and work constantly talking in our staff meetings about depth we're very cognizant of the fact that the playoff situation has changed so you have to develop that depth you know used to be maybe have a pair and a spare was what everybody says but I think you may have to have more than that you know you're talking about

16-17 games you're you're really going to be tested that way so I was really happy with with how those young guys have come along you're in the 15 training sessions that we've had. Oh here to the right Tim made the Tim May podcast thank you Jerry you have your own podcast yeah like these guys all have like a name next to their channel. You're a name show okay let's be cool he must have some juice if you got you got your name in your podcast definitely okay by the way I like it it's not just the lunch last hot lunch last hot lunch last hot lunch. Yeah just two quickies number one do you feel compelled to let these quarterbacks know where they stand here you know it's coming up Tuesday you know to me there yeah you know where does that go I mean in your mind yeah we're all sit down as a staff and visit meet on it and then nine maybe he does an unbelievable job of I think all our players understand where they fit and what what the picture is and we'll give them our assessment this isn't you know we're not going to come back but we do it after every day they know where they stood after practice one after two after three after four we grade everything they're

getting constant feedback in terms of where we are and then after 15 which we had today but we can't do it unless you watch the film and can can really look at the things because you may see something but you're on the sideline you know why did he make that decision well I couldn't really see the field safety from where he was okay now I understand why he made that decision so you know what what what the meetings with all our players and that's that's always been the method so this week during you know between one day through Friday we're all scheduled no one's going on the road recruiting until after that but we're all applying meetings at every position you know offensive line defensive line linebacker safety is everybody everybody's going to sit down with their position coaches and know where they fit and when we see them but do you feel a pressure with with the transfer portal looming I mean you've been ahead coach for a long time I mean is that on your mind at Tuesday yeah I think we're aware of it and 100 percent and I don't think it's pressure but I think you just open lines of communication and everybody knows you know which what your evaluation was through the training sessions that we have guys we got to have we

got real quick at last two questions Dan Hope and then Rob all are feel like you need to have a starting quarterback named by and whatever the biggest things you're going to be looking for between now and then and determining who that guy's going to be well between now and and whatever then is we're not allowed as coaches to go back out and practice with him you know in college football you get 15 training sessions in the in the offseason and then they'll go back to work and with Mick in the in the weight room and getting bigger getting faster getting stronger they'll have organized activities themselves and they they do a really good job of that but once there's a football out like we're not allowed to be there to evaluate and even assess so they're really from a football standpoint on their own until August so you always want to do it earlier but I also believe every time I've I've been involved in this is that it kind of happens organically and authentically you know because the players know and if you say we decided we're going to be with Joe and they all think it's Tim you know they know they're in the locker room with them every day

players players understand you know who they feel is the guy and and most of the time it it the decision is very obvious you know when you just say this is where we are with it you know but there's that timetable thing I don't I can't give you an exact timetable in that so Rob Chip you talk about Julian but typically in your experience you've done again like Tim said a long time long does it take for the game to slow down for for a young QB I think it depends on the individual you know I've had some kids were early you know you were like wow Marcus Murray Odo was like that remember vividly second practice and he got to the fifth reading the progression and threw it out here in his big game and I asked him why I do it all I like I asked why because I just want to understand it and I said why did you do that and he goes I don't know what we call that defense but there was like a lot of guys over there and they didn't seem like there was anybody over there but for him to process at that time and he was right and he came back the other day whether that

was cover 60 other day coach like I learned what you guys call the coverages but it all happens differently I've got guys that for two years seem like they're just you know they're really struggling and then the light bulb goes off and you know whoa like they got it so everybody has different learning styles you know our job and the evaluation process is to identify those learning styles so you know they cognitive learn they an auditory learner you know do they do they learn by field is it is it more a field guy you know a more film guy you know it's all different and I think we have to keep poking and prodding and in in in for us as coaches that's the challenge too is what is their best learning style and how can we convey it because education basically is just a transportation knowledge but it really doesn't matter what I know or what Ryan knows it matters what they know so that's that's always kind of what we're working on and studying and thinking about and kind of where we are and how much can they handle and then how much is too much you know because this may be a great play I agree 100 percent but if he don't feel it's a good play

then why is it in you know I mean and that's that's this whole feeling of process that we're all they're learning awesome we're learning them so I have identities so the coaches really running quarterbacks and something you've always sort of lean toward or is it year by year case by case what advantages do you like about because all your guys can run a little bit yeah I think a running quarterback causes problems for defense so when when plays break down the unscheduled plays you know if you just go back to the recent Super Bowl on that last drive the two big plays were my home's run but Patrick my home is another runner Andy's not calling design quarterback runs for Pat but when the defense matches up and plays two men and turns their back to the quarterback well maybe the best decision is to take off you know the second one he took out I'm like he may score you know a lot of guys go and they want a hook side you know and and there's times where you have to understand if you do have a running quarterback and we talk about the best of the best ability is

availability you know you're not low on your shoulder and taking people on but we are always looking for quarterbacks that have the ability to run we're not looking for running backs that can throw you know so you're not going to see us 20 times a game we're running the quarterback there are people that run offensive styles and are really successful with it but with this group we have right now that's not now they can hurt you with the feet we'll did it when he was at case date you know obviously Devon took off a couple times today air took off a couple times today Lincoln's will really really good athlete Julian can run but you know we're not calling design quarterback runs you know you're not going to see you know I tremendous from matter respect for co-chays and the legacy that he left here the straight T is about as far as we go we are not going single wing so we are not going to snap and run quarterback ISO and quarterback power so but it is a it's another weapon you know and if it also keeps defense is honest you know if your defensive and is going to continue to bend from the quarterback closing he's on the edge and he's getting first downs within the defensive and has to stay outside and contain the quarterback well then we can run the ball up

and hand the ball off sometimes in our running game our quarterback really is a blocker he's responsible for a defender if the defender was cheating and fitting it on the run well then his responsibility is to make make the defense be honest and and that's really air did that a couple times today and we had a block that safety was sticking his face in there so we took off around the edge what happens in next play the defense is wider then what do we get to do we get a chance to hand the ball off to the running man great coach thank you so much for your time and thank you for being a buck I was definitely addressed here you know this pretty easy I think Austin Saragore stepped up in a big way you know with the Donnie being out and then you know Carson can can play both guard and center which is good and you know we've actually you know sent us done a nice job as well but it was good to see Austin you know he moved from guard to tackle a couple times and even with the ones he was in their battling his tail off so I think we have built some depth there but again you know we got to go play some games and see

yeah you know again whether it's whatever happened last year is last year but I know that the message to our to our offensive line is we want to play I want to be the hardest playing in the offensive line in the country now we've got to play with technique but at the end of the play like knock the line of scrimmage back and play with your hair on fire as hard as you possibly can there's a lot to go with the playing in the offensive line it's all the communication there's a lot of things that have to get into place I think Seth has done a nice job of communicating and understands the offense better now it takes control up front and brings everybody together which is great but but to me like that's it now we could list a bunch of other things but to me we've got to move the line of scrimmage we've got to be just playing with our hair on fire and knocking people back and playing physical and that's the start the game that's the end the game for a line you see that definitely how do you get over that? No no I don't see it that way at all I think you know we'll see what we got this year but I feel like you know we've got some really good young players in the system I think that you know we

should have the best offensive line in the country that's that's the standard here has been for a long time and you know and and so you know we'll keep pushing towards that this year and you know I think you know everybody in that room would play the same thing. I was the situation that we'll line back and you should go right now or see what we'll do. Yeah so Sonny has really stepped up and played well he's made this transition from safety to linebacker very well I think he did a nice job in the spring but you could definitely see as he went into the summer it just you know bigger stronger being more comfortable closer to the line of scrimmage it's different when you're closer to the line of scrimmage I was doing a better job getting this you know hands-on on you know on offense alignment and getting off of blocks using a better job doing a better job with his hands and he understands the communication the linebackers always have to be involved at the front make them involve them fit into the back end he's doing that you know I think he's you know looking forward to play on a plan in a game and you know get an idea

of what it all looks like but I can tell you in practice he's playing fast he's playing violent and I think he's you know he does a nice job of taking the meeting to the field being very intentional about his work but playing really hard yeah I haven't talked to Jim because you know we'll make that final decision here over the weekend but he's certainly leader in the club class. Can you tell Ryan I mean Seth McLaughlin can tell he's been there done that is he as he projected to the offensive line you're still and I'm saying for leadership stand boy a grown man. Yes how does that just come up how does it show up? A bunch of ways it just poised it's not getting rattled when you know coach parks at you it's you know okay I got this let me get it under control it's seemed something in practice and being able to adjust on the move it's being prepared when you walk on the field it's recognizing how hard you have to play at the position it's you know kind of all of those things in the one but

he's got great communication upfront he talks to the guys he's moving quickly in there and when you have experience like he has you know the game seems to slow down at times yet he seems to be playing it fast-loving. Hey there was a point where he got a black stripe off and I feel like he took a step in the right direction when you come in in the summer it is very difficult to get on the field especially early in the season whether he does or not I will see but if he continues to practice for it he's been practicing and he'll give himself a chance to be in the rotation midway through the season or later in the season which is similar to some of the wider series he's had before you know you've seen some of those guys get some reps early in the season but then make an impact later in the season I think that's probably more his path right now you know he'll show us up

and starts doing great and you know we'll you know we'll give him the reps he deserves or like Jeremiah is in a different situation because he came in here in January and he was a little bit ahead anybody who comes in and January to me I don't look at them as a freshman anymore they've been here they're in the program and we expect them to continue. You're in the striker team and then you're in the team. I'm still in there right there talking and communicating but in the skirmishes we've had it's you know it's it's been offense for his defense so I've mostly been in the offensive side still kind of going through all those types of things and there's a lot to work through this year just with you know the play clock and then what I mean by that is you know the close by communication inside of 15 goes off just there's a lot of things that go on there and we don't really get

notification on that so I'm trying to you know just help chip with that and some communication that we're a person out but I'm very much involved with special teams I think with the two minute warning there's some strategic things that are going to go on again and half in the game that you know you're ever really being involved with but to your point just overall just looking guys in the eye making sure that you know they have to write looking their eye you know that you know they they understand you know with the situation what's going on in the game you know I think that happens sometimes with young players you know they're just like playing the next play you know and that's not just how that's not how it works we'll get to win the situations and so all those things will come into play and make an in game adjustments you know be involved with on all three phases you know watching you know the game in a tab with the try to identify what happened in the last series I think all those things will be happening right now Nick is going to be the starter and you know that that competition will go into next week but right now as we head into the weekend

he is the starter and the plan is ready to go first part of what we go inside of against actor he's got a strong leg he's he's made it a good transition into the country but also just playing you know football and not Australian football which is very very different the you know snap to kick is really improved you know that was one thing as he's a taller guy so the ball has to get out you know good after six faster I think he's done that his time time has been good and he's been more consistent you'll see you know he'll kick a few go just go right out of the stadium and he just got a strong strong leg so we're looking for that consistency he's he's shown that here most recently so he's got the upper hand right now last question there we heard him in well right I don't know if it's because Will maybe took a little bit longer to make a decision in December than some of the other top of the line quarterback who has been scared or because maybe there was a thought he wasn't going to be the starter can't stay too short but it seems like

people have viewed him kind of as a game manager type of quarterback after eight months with them where do you see his ceiling of what what what is Will special for you where do you see him take himself I see you know a bunch of trades there I think the first trade of size is big you can stand in the pocket and see he's strong so I mean that's the first to be noticed about him again whether it's standing in the pocket with boys I think that's another trade that he has that's excellent he feels the rush but he stands right in there I think the next trade is just you know he's just top-end speed and he can run 22 miles an hour at that size which there's not a lot of guys who can do that so I think that's a short narrative and now I would say his overall leadership commands in the huddle is is another you know something that he's he's really you know grown into in the last few months and he's been here and then his accuracy he's been very accurate since he's been here and when he knows what's going on and he can't to spell what's happening I mean it

looks right just feel and and he can hurt you you know a bunch of different ways so his ceiling that that's that's going to be kind of you know up to how he plays this season but you know I see a player who has a lot of great skills that you know translates well to the next level so we'll see but I know his first focus is on winning games around here so thank you plays meaning I'm nursing naturally so that's first complete I was good I was rolling also it was also yeah um you yeah it's like I prepared well um and camp and practice all week and I was I was ready um yeah I have two multi-year starters

it did a lot I mean I couldn't ask them hey what we got here but I was prepared well I mean I was telling Jimmy and says like hey we're flocks we're happy emotional excited it wasn't just as a guy from Ohio what does it mean to start it it was always my dream to come here and play and start and having that like me I just got to keep going keep building those days and go games and keep building what a much younger Austin don't you know I don't think even I told like me I asked my younger self even committing I wouldn't believe that now I have a couple of starts yeah awesome has this happened faster than you no I knew that year two I was gonna see you some playing time now starting week one year two

I didn't see that but like I was ready in spring ball like I knew I was gonna I was gonna play some something but so what does it mean to you to it's not only get the opportunity to play but like you play well enough now maybe coaching staff trust you I guess it shows like my preparation my hard work and just everything I put into this and I just finally show it up on a field there are moments the top season in the end of the spring and I realized that you could play at this high level with the ones you know if you yeah uh the definitely was in training camp I mean blocking highly can tie every day so like it feels feels a lot of confidence and doing it well and not like getting balled or anything so there's hero in Jason Moore and Taiwan all those guys pretty much anyone on this deepened mind gets your face out of time so and came back as well so yeah

how much can he help you he helped me a lot and I'm proud that he's our starting center not someone else's but um I mean he's like the captain of the line he's another voice on the line with guys like Josh Fryer and Josh Simmons Donnie and Tiger that means another voice and another captain of the lookways and having that and everything it's much experience help yeah a lot he can tell you like before the play was going on like how to block someone like what you need to do and like helps a lot Tiger talking about how calm he is it's very very quickly how much does that benefit you have a guy who's kind of been there and it makes us more calm like especially me and Tay does our first start so like we were up here with with Seth like he brought us down I mean we were like fine like our emotions weren't high we settled in is that like something he tells you is that something you pick up on by how he's acting

how do you kind of sense what he's trying to say about how he's acting and what I mean him when we're on the side of him both Josh Donnie like he was telling us like hey we're cool like we got it but it's pretty much like oh everyone oh cool group how much do that as a first time starter how much did he add in that though me a lot that was my first time ever using high pads we didn't use the high pads in high school but I mean you can say like try to remember the defense you can just come on a silent bring up we'll play and get help up really hard probably the first or second but after that I thought we'd say oh and settle it awesome thank you very much that's why I probably settle again to go that's um I want to say maybe I don't know but I mean when I when I first heard you got the job I was really excited because I'm one of those guys who's the tempo I can run with the tempo you know I mean I'm I'm playing basketball all life in center football and I feel like

just the fast pace often so we're running really fits the guys we have right now I'm really excited for that I know you can throw a football at 65 yards but can you kick a football 75 yards like wake up I think Lincoln what's your question how is your uh your roommate he's a blessing man I can't complain he's a great guy what's his name's Lincoln teen hoes oh he's cleaner I think we're both really clean that's why we kind of picked each other's room he's because he's very clean and we don't like our burdens really messy well it's true though it's a true the rope pretty clean so Luke are you still a cross-training in tactical some or if you just been all guard this way oh so far I've been all guard um I really don't know like I said I'm taking it practice I practice I can't end up being back in attack like good and on but you know I'm just really focused in on this past practice and connection yeah oh that mean a lot um you know you put a lot of work in to play here and spend a dream

just for being in Ohio kid is from a high-o' kids perspective it's I mean that's the biggest switch possible I would say that's gonna be pretty cool what was it like just last year first game getting on the field for the first time it didn't fly this can be a weird answer but it feel like I was playing a game you know if that makes sense I was pretty locked in I felt like just no anxiousness no stress no nothing really I just went in that first game was like shoot I'm here now it's time to roll you know it didn't really hit me I was like it didn't even hit me after I'm like what'd you feel there man it's like getting out there at the end I'm just like honestly I don't know I felt less nervous that I didn't high school and it makes no sense um a lot I mean I'm learning from Josh Ann Austin I think prior to one of my biggest role models here is my bigger big brother my first major come up with you I don't want to be okay yeah no yeah yeah so yeah for being Austin those are my guys man I mean even Miles two I mean all three of them that's those are my roommates and they're progressing every day as

well on and I'm excited to see where they where they can get to I'm excited to play on the field oh yeah you know it's been really helpful you know just keep in my mind just settled and straightforward on the next play it's a great question um like I said I mean that I just need to take consistent in my work I think that's the biggest thing for me is just thinking system worry about the next play absolutely I mean when you see defensive and you see defenses start arguing with each other and things like that I mean that makes it a lot easier you know I have those 10-11 I mean it feels good a good boss because I mean we put them so much work on those and practice and you know seeing the product

take reserve since it's not it's a line-wise it's just you'll prepare this week with the dot from back in there they tell our hope for some really this season um you know it's not for taking Austin it's just more of a down with Jackson pretty seasonal American etc I don't mean enjoying the work you know done of the Jackson's a very good football player when he's on the field he mentioned present stuff I mean we've all been training on my home there's no margin still through when you know it's in we know it can be the other seat to be there's a sense of watching you guys last week you're even more of a force it felt like watching you guys they mean it maybe even it feel like that yeah I mean we put in a work during practice we practice really hard coach day really challenges it's hard positions coaches really challenge us practice right I was just a result when it's grown up like that what's it do like being in mix it's it's us it's when you work hard for something and you're able to see like what comes

out of it like that's there's no better feeling in it no I mean I was really funny to see take a what what has set been off from you guys for the first few games what's it been like play next time for the last two he's you know he's really calm and stormy you never see real panic and having a guy like that met you when you know you're having really played as many meetings for snaps there's no one else I'd rather add some I left and some I write you know for and set those guys they do so much for this offensive line of people talk about his intelligence really kind of showing up in the film room and on the field where have you noticed that intelligence

and how is that helped you oh yeah like I said and crunched him you know when when things are exactly looking like how we practice it you know having a guy like that we'll do this this this and then we execute having a guy like that like this there's none better than that you know you know what's my favorite

They're real players, you can sell their coach well, you can sell them. They go hard, you know, they're real players over there. We've been practicing to the best of our goldies, you know, and expect that. And I'm prepared for that. You see, they played for G-Tech in the last year. The other day, they played. They're capable. Playing. Yeah, they played good ball over there. You know, their defense plays hard. They challenged teams, you know, sometimes they might be overlooked. They still challenged teams. You can sell they come out there with the mentality like, no matter where they're in front of us or when they're going out. Yes, I think that's totally good. Let me ask you. What has been the biggest challenge? I mean, the actions right there right in front of you right now, which is kind of a good thing and kind of a bad thing. You should shift off the rest, you know, hitting back in it. Inside. Can you talk to your coach? I mean, I hear from Chris every once in a while trying to not to bother him too much, but it's always good to hear from G-Tech guys like D-Won, even Matt Jones would turn him back.

Thank you. Appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. This is what he also brings to you. I've been for this year to just be able to contend to that job. It was still so neat. I think it's a lot of things. I wait my height, this is more regard height. When I'm fast in my feet and I'm just seeing that you can sometimes like basketball. I want to be on that just like defend, but you know, you're going to stay in the stage where you're somewhere. Exactly. Yeah, that's a great question. I feel like these two can answer that for the year right now. I think KKN here, I can answer that. I don't know what to say about that. What do you guys think? I'm going to take a day. This time it's strong.

I'm talking about life. You have the basketball here. You can just do a thing that's going to keep the covers going to fall. And he got the real thing. He doesn't give up on a play. He's going to go in and watch the film. He's going to hit the day with the better man. He should feel it on a field. From what this one, not that this guy is considering proving that again. Here, if he was following us around, we're all going to win. He's something like a coach, man. He's something like a coach. Chip Kelly's in full exchange. You're mine. About maybe like the idea of tackle versus Darwin. Obviously, his offensive predelitionals were like, yeah, the offensive blind play. And then, as we do, are you settling in the gut? I want to say maybe I don't know, but I mean, when I'm for sure, you got the job. I was really excited because I'm one of those guys who's the tempo. I can run with the tempo. I'm playing basketball all life and set up football. And I feel like just the fast pace offense that we're running really fits the guys we have right now.

I know you can throw a football at 65 guys, but can you kick a football 75 yards and make it? I'll be question. Lincoln, what's your question? How is your, your roommate at the community? He's a blessing, man. I can't complain. He's a great guy. What's the name? His name's Lincoln. Teen Holes. Who's cleaner? I think we're both really clean. That's why we kind of pick each other's roommates because we're very clean. We don't like our burdens really messy. That's true though. It's true. They're both pretty clean. Lincoln, are you still a cross-training at Tag Goal Somm or if you just been off guard this spring? So far I've been off guard. I really don't know. Like I said, I'm taking it practice by practice. I didn't end up being back at Tag Goal I could not, but no, I'm just really focused in on this past practice as a connection with the summer. You've got to be on the field. Yeah. Oh, that mean a lot. You know, you put a lot of work in to play here.

And it's been a dream just from being in Ohio kids. I'm from a high-o'-kits perspective. I mean, that's the biggest switch possible. I would have thought it would be pretty cool. What was it like to last year at first game getting on the field for the first time? It didn't, like, this is going to be a weird answer, but it feels like I was playing a game that made sense. I was pretty locked in. I felt like just no anxiousness, no stress, no nothing. I really just went in that first game. I was like, you shoot out in here now. It's time to roll. You know, it didn't really hit me. I was like, it didn't even hit me after. I was like, what'd you feel doing? Like getting out there at Indiana. I just like, honestly, I don't know. I felt less nervous than I did in high school and it makes no sense. What is the most important thing that's going to happen to you guys? A lot. I mean, I'm learning from Josh N. Austin. I think prior to that, it was one of my biggest role models here. I was like, what's the most important thing that you guys have to do? I'm not the first game. It's all about the deal. I'm not the first game.

It's all about the deal. No. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, the deal in Austin. Those are my guys, man. I mean, even Miles too. I mean, all three of them. Those are my roommates and they're progressing every day as well on. I'm excited to see where they can get to. I'm excited to play on the field with them. That's a great question. Like I said, I mean, I just need to stay consistent in my work. I think that's the biggest thing for me is just thinking, just stay consistent and worry about the next one. To my game, and I was like, whoa, I never had that happen. No other school, like just Ohio State field can't wait. And I was like, wow, that's crazy. Do you like, I mean, you're quiet, but also do you like that? Do you know what everything comes to mind? Do you know what everything comes to mind? I do, but at the same time, I don't just like to be a normal person. I don't really like to be a normal person. I don't really like to be a normal person. I mean, I was just going to feel, are you a showman? I mean, I was just going to be a showman. I mean, I was just going to feel like you're a hard form. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I want to feel, I'm a little bit more chipy a little bit,

but sometimes I still require them to do it. What was the competitive part of you? What did that point that you know to set about yourself? I've been having that. I mean, since I was like, eight, nine years old, I mean, happens. I mean, just high-end, house rate, just to be competitive. What was the coming higher stage? Just to compete each and every day, I guess the best DB group in the country? I was told when the stage had been enhanced in the last several months. I mean, you want to just introduce them, then sell perks, etc. Oh, yeah, for sure. Just going to get them two guys, the best two DBs in the country. I mean, that's the reason I came here. This is going to just go, maybe better each and every day. Yesterday, you put them in the right place, the right zone. Yeah. You just said work. And then two plays later, you call, or whatever. I had more in the squad, I was like, see. You were going to say work there, if you needed me. I said, I said, I said, well, he said, when he defed little boys, I'm here. I said, okay, we'll be back. And that's some be back, then when I'm going to be able to play. I just walked off, that's it. When you're in the pocket ball, you say, well,

I told him, I'm coming back, right? What's it like to be back to the car now, say, you're going to be back to the stage, but you're asking if you need it. Okay. It feels great just us doing a third together. We got to make a lot of plays this year. What did you learn from that over time? I learned a lot, especially from Cardinal, because we both played outside. So, me just learning from him, and you know, the things he learned, he just teaching me, and you know, he was behind Mar, and stuff like that. So, he just teaching me the game for sure. What specifically did you got better at that, and you can't compare to what you first got? I said my footwork, that's the biggest game. Miko Shadwai was looking at, that's one thing I need to get better on. So, I mean, I just worked on that in all season, and just got better over time. What, what can still be a work ethic in here? What can still be a work ethic in here? What can still be a work ethic in here? I mean, just, I really don't know. I can't really answer that. But it just, it's just in me, like, I just want to work, that's one thing. I think I say, I get it from my dad. My dad really, really good reason why I worked so hard, because, since I was like eight years old, he just wanted me to just work and be the best dad what I do.

So, I mean, I really, I say different about that. I see the clip of my day, you know, like, I'm Johnny Dain, what is he doing? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, seeing it. And how close did you come? I wasn't, I wasn't sleeping at all. I don't know why. We made it seem like it was that. I was a black guy, and that's it. How did you get exactly the same? Oh, he said a big example. I mean, just, I ain't go say it was only just my dad. It was, I mean, I have a cousin's name. You know, it's maybe pretty full of Seattle City Hall. So, I was, I looked at the him as well, I mean, seeing what he was doing. I was Virginia with Taylor Austin and Steadin and Bayley. Something he was a motivation for me. And just all the guys that grew up before me and my in the garden's area, Broward area for sure.
