Private Detective Exposes Forged Statements in Privacy Lawsuit

On March 23, a private detective named Gavin Burroughs testified in a high-profile privacy

lawsuit against the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, claiming,

when his statements submitted in his name were completely forged, he insisted he never

word for either paper and that claimants like 73-year-old Baroness Doreen Lawrence and

41-year-old Prince Harry were seriously misled into joining the

case.

The lawsuit involves seven public figures, including Liz Hurley, Sir Elton John and Sadie

Frost, who accused the newspapers of using illegal tactics, like voicemail hacking and

bugging.

Associated newspapers denies commissioning any private detectives for such activities.

Burroughs pointed the finger at former tabloid journalist Graham Johnson, calling him

untrustworthy and saying Johnson pushed him to make false claims.

About targeting celebrities, claimants' lawyers suggested Burroughs turned against Johnson

only after a dispute over money.

In cross-examination, Burroughs explained a suspicious note about wiretapping Liz Hurley

as just banter that got twisted.

He grew furious upon learning a forged statement, led Baroness Lawrence to sign on, prompting

him to contact the mail and file his own denial with.
