The Dallas Cowboys were at the Texas Pro Day, we'll tell you what that means for their
1:07
Welcome back I am your host Marcus Mosher, he is Landon McCool and on today's show,
1:12
we're discussing the pro day updates as the Dallas Cowboys were at the Texas Pro Day
1:17
on Tuesday, Brian Shottonheimer was there, chatted up with David Mullageta, which I found
1:23
I want to talk about some of these players at the Texas Pro Day because the Cowboys had
1:28
dinner with Anthony Hill, the talented linebacker, who a lot of people think could go somewhere
1:34
late, round one, even somewhere in the 70s, what do you think about their interest in
1:42
Well, if you remember, when we talked about his evaluation, I thought that he was specifically
1:49
a really good fit for what the Cowboys want to do in this kind of gap and ask him, and
1:53
I think it fits his skillset really well.
1:55
I wondered about his skillset kind of writ large across the NFL, like I wondered how much
2:03
value he would have for teams that are just looking for a simple 4-3-will linebacker,
2:09
I think that there's a lot of other guys that probably would play that position maybe
2:12
a little bit better, and I don't know that he's necessarily a great fit as a mic linebacker
2:18
in those systems either.
2:20
So I did wonder, is there where his draft stock would land, right?
2:25
And I think he came out and showed that he was a lead athlete, he was a five-star coming
2:31
into the college, right?
2:34
And so I think, or at least he was a four star, he might have been a four star.
2:37
But I think he's shown you enough that for the Cowboys, I think he has a real serious
2:43
value, I think my problem right now with him is that if I had to value him, I would probably
2:51
put him somewhere between the two picks.
2:53
The Cowboys have a 20 and 94, and I think that if they picked him at 20, I wouldn't be
3:00
upset, but I think, you know, I would be much happier with him at 94, to be honest.
3:08
I struggle with the end of the hell, but let me tell you some other people's opinions
3:12
If you look at like, let's call them big draft media, right?
3:15
You guys know the names right now, Daniel Jeremiah, Dan Brugler, Mel Kuiper, listen to
3:19
these rankings, Daniel Jeremiah 37, Jordan Reed 34, Dan Brugler 56, ESPN, this would be
3:27
Scouts in 42nd, Eric Edholm 42nd, Nate Ties 37th, Matt Miller 38, Todd McShay 38.
3:34
They all like him in that like top 50 range, you know, kind of mid second round.
3:41
And you're right, like that's, that's a far stretch from where the Cowboys are drafting
3:45
at 20, but I think if they drafted him, if the Cowboys dropped, you know, dropped back
3:50
from 20 to 30 and they drafted him, I don't think anybody would put up a big stink about
3:57
I think we'd all say, okay, hey, they identified a player that fits their defense well.
4:00
He's a supreme athlete and let's go from there.
4:03
I just think it gets a little hairy when we talk about him as a top 20 player in this
4:09
And, you know, maybe the Cowboys have some sort of, maybe the Cowboys have some sort
4:16
of handshake deals to pull to trade down from 20, you know, because it's starting to
4:20
feel more and more like they might, right?
4:23
Simply like, because if they did and it opened things up for them, you know, first of all,
4:30
Like you said, you feel great trading back a little bit and taking a guy like, I think
4:34
you would feel, okay, would feel much better about taking someone else at, you know, one
4:41
of these other corners or edges that you, you can get kind of maybe closer to the second
4:45
round, depending on where you are.
4:47
And then that also potentially opens up, you know, if you have a deal like that, it opens
4:52
things up for 12 and that would make sense for some of the other stuff that we are here.
4:56
We're seeing and hearing about some of the folks that are coming through the Cowboys
5:00
Halls and interviews.
5:01
So, yeah, I think to me, it's the interesting thing about Hill is that CJ Allen is a name
5:10
that you've heard other teams been kicking around as a first round pick.
5:15
So when the Cowboys talk about taking him a 20, it's like, okay, I get it.
5:20
But when Anthony Hill's name comes up, it's like, again, I wouldn't be mad about it
5:28
because I get it, especially if they thought that this was their guy, but it does feel like
5:34
there could have been another player at 20 that you could have picked that would have been
5:39
And if you pick him at 20, it's like, it really feels like a strong, a strong reach,
5:46
Well, not only are you reaching on the player, but you're also reaching on.
5:50
A position that's not, it's not that linebacker is not important, but it's not one of the
5:54
money five positions.
5:55
And I think it's more understandable if you're reaching on a corner or you're reaching
6:00
it on offense, tackle linebackers where it gets a little tough.
6:03
Well, and again, there's the economic issue that we talked about in previous episodes.
6:08
You know, it's not as pronounced at 20, but still like, you know, the way that these guys
6:13
get paid in their fifth year, it's like, it's even less of a reason to want to go get
6:18
a linebacker, right?
6:19
I got to, I got to stat for you.
6:20
There's a 29 linebackers off ball linebackers drafted in round one since 2009.
6:28
How many do you think signed a second contract with their team?
6:31
29 first round off ball linebackers since 2009?
6:39
And that is including, that's including late in the end of the rest who signed a,
6:43
basically, it was like a one or two year deal because the Cavaliers just didn't know what
6:48
they were getting at that point.
6:49
It's just not a position that lasts very long in the league.
6:52
And more often these guys, not these guys move on.
6:56
Let's talk about another pro day that happened on Tuesday.
6:59
One that is very close to late in its heart.
7:02
That would be the Auburn pro day.
7:04
Let's discuss KELGIC Falk.

Welcome back to the Lockdown Cowboys Podcast.
9:37
We'd like to thank you for making us your first listen every single day.
9:41
There was another pro day that happened on Tuesday that at least I think we should
9:45
mention Caldrick Falk, who I again, I know there's a lot of cowboy fans that don't
9:50
want him at 12 or 20, but we've been waiting on this 40 yard dash number.
9:54
It's not official, but according to Jordan Reed, between four six seven and
9:59
four six nine for a guy that is six five two hundred and seventy five pounds.
10:05
He's not a perfect fit is this outside edge Russia.
10:10
That's going to bring pressure, you know, quickly, but I think at least he went out
10:16
there and gave us some good numbers.
10:18
Yeah, I mean, you guys are so down on what is it?
10:22
I'm giving him credit.
10:25
Look, yeah, this is a good football player.
10:27
And I understand folks that don't like him at 12 totally understand that.
10:31
I think that, you know, look, his skill set is is not he doesn't hasn't
10:36
have a elite past rushing tape.
10:38
He doesn't have the kind of elite athletic athletic profile that you want from
10:43
your bendy right defensive end that we've all been chasing forever and ever.
10:47
He's not my comparisons, right?
10:49
He's just he's not even that style of player.
10:51
But there is a lot of value in this kind of player when they hit and I think
10:59
having a guy like this on your defense would raise the floor of this defense.
11:04
Just having another body who could play several different spots and give you
11:07
better than competent play at, you know, anywhere from three all the way out to
11:15
And I think he can do that.
11:17
And so I don't think he's a guy that you want as the top of your of your
11:23
I don't think he's the guy that you want as the crown jewel of your defense.
11:27
But as like a guy that is like part of a rotation, part of a past
11:32
rush group, he is a force multiplier because you can move him all over it.
11:36
He can be effective on a bunch of different fronts.
11:39
And if you want to identify a problem area, he can be used at a couple of
11:43
different spots to attack that problem area on the offensive front.
11:47
I just think that he's not going to he'll never be a 12 sack guy probably.
11:52
But I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up being a 10 15 year six to eight sack guy,
11:59
you know, and so there's value with those kind of guys who give you great
12:04
run defense and offer that kind of past rush, pushing the pocket.
12:08
And I think it's probably closer to the bottom half of the first round.
12:13
Really quickly before we go, the two guys that I'm struggling with a little
12:17
bit are Celtic Falk and TJ Parker.
12:20
Falk is the better athlete.
12:24
Parker is the more proven past rusher.
12:27
If it came down to those two players at 20 for the Cowboys, which one would you prefer?
12:33
I before the Cowboys, I think I would choose Parker because again,
12:37
the Cowboys have a specific need now more than more than run defense.
12:41
I think where I think that they've got the correct talent.
12:44
They can still add more obviously, but they've got enough at this point.
12:47
I still think they need more past rushers.
12:49
So give me the past rusher right now.
12:51
I think it's closer than I thought.
12:53
I think I'm there with you as well.
12:57
Let's let's see how this process shakes out of the next month.
