PROOF: Iowa State, Arizona, Houston Are ALL Final Four Bound, Big 12 is DOMINATING March Madness

analysts are saying he should have gone elsewhere, here's why they are absolute idiots and finally,

for those who did lose, whether it be a Utah or a Baylor, even for those who lost out

on an opportunity to either play in the postseason or win a national championship, how do

you fix it?

How do you write the ship going in the next season?

Johns, yeah, yeah, well, you know, UCF couldn't pull it out against UCLA, but I would rather

have, genuinely, I would rather have you told me, hey, Drake, you can have five teams

of the sweet 16, but none of the five can win the national championship.

None of the five are probably going to the final four, AB one, or we'll give you three

teams in the sweet 16, and all three are going to the final four.

All three have a very good shot to win the national championship.

I'm probably going, no, no, no, no, definitely going with three teams that could win the

national championship.

I'd rather have that than a bunch of teams who are great, not elite, good, not great.

I'd rather have Arizona.

I think that the most balanced team in the country.

I think they have the second most wins in program history already.

I think that the most balanced team in the country, people are saying, oh, well, you

Tommy Lloyd in March, no, no, man, he'd be a very good, very scrappy Utah state team.

And he's built a roster of young guys and old guys.

He's built a roster that is mixed and it's got this beautiful conglomerate of youthful

energy, young NBA talent, hello, co-opete, mixed with the guys who are big 12 player of

the year caliber in Jaden Bradley.

Crevice to breweries like this is a team Delores.

This is a team that is built out to win.

They out rebounded Utah state until the cows came home, dominant on the glass, e-fishing.

Don't turn the ball over.

Tobaya Waka.

I haven't even, you know, I can just continue to list names and their guys you've heard

of from Arizona.

They're that good.

Oh, and if you don't like that, that's not good enough for you.

I hold the big 12 so bad at basketball.

Why are you going to Houston?

The best defensive team in America.

And if they're not the best defensive team in America, it's because Iowa State has a

healthy Joshua Jefferson.

If you have an NBA ready freshman, you have, you understand that like in the NBA, con

Knapples going to in rookie of the year, probably him or Cooper flag.

And like those two guys had this very similar skill skill set and they're playing in college

basketball last year.

Like schools were playing against two NBA stars and they were in similar form to what

they are now.

It's what Kingston Fleming says.

He's an NBA star.

Houston act junior NBA stars high lottery talent, but they have a DNA and defense.

Most schools of high lottery talent were just throwing the ball around.

Hey, let's go out there and score some have some fun.

Houston's won each of their first two games by 30 or more points.

They held A&M to 57 held Idaho to 47 points per possession allowed.

They're number one in the sweet 16 point seven eight.

They continue that if you can't score against them, they're not going to lose.

And then despite Joshua Jefferson being out, the ability for Iowa State to make you turn

the ball over their ability to dismantle a brand like the Kentucky Wildcats give them

their worst postseason loss since 1972 82 to 63 converting 20 turnovers into 25 three

points.

The rotational flexibility without Josh with Jefferson that prove clutch and key in this

win and prove key in the win against Tennessee State.

The team in Lipsy.

The full court press by the time I get 10 minutes in to happen to Kentucky, you're so tired.

You don't want to keep going.

They lead the tournament in defensive efficiency improvement during the second half of games.

They turn it on and they turn it on exactly when they're supposed to.

It's Iowa State so good, man.

Doesn't matter who's on the floor, they'll practice against each other to build one of

the best defense.

It's an all college basketball.

Oh, you know, down year for the big 12 must stink from right.

You'll mark the big 12.

Not the best confidence college basketball anymore belongs to the SEC.

No, you're only national championship contender.

Florida has already gone home.

Our only three national championship contenders, legitimate national championship contenders.

VYU could have been that Texas Tech could have been that would injuries hampered it.

Our only three legitimate contenders are still alive.

And in my brain still going to the final four.

That's the mark of the best conference in college basketball to me.

I'm not coping.

I'm giving you the facts that I'm watching three elite teams on the floor in March madness

that are still alive.

That the SEC can't boast that.

They don't have a single national title contender left.

The big 10.

I don't think so.

I don't really see it.

The ACC only has Duke.

I'm not buying another conference is better than what we have just because the big 10 has

six teams and congrats to them.

I don't hate the big 10.

They're not nearly as insufferable as the SEC.

But the big 12 still has the throne.

One of the most expensive roster in college basketball with a J debons out there with

Richie Saunders and Rob Wright the third and a myriad of foreign player.

They went far and wide talent search was pretty deep for BYU.

This wasn't, hey, we've got to build a roster of only church or Jesus Christ of Letter

Day Saints players.

That's the common misconception.

I genuinely, I want to ask somebody the ESPN.

I want to ask these people who are saying that debonsa should not have gone to BYU.

Trivia time.

Do BYU players have to be members of the LDS church?

I bet 80% of like, yeah, of course it's BYU.

They have no idea that BYU did a national and international talent search to build this

roster.

It's got decimated by injuries and guess what?

If the bonds and I've got a list of bullet points here that make me just, it makes

I blood boil even more that the big 12 or BYU are being devalued in this conversation.

The disrespect for the big 12 here is crazy too, but I've got a list of bullet points.

I haven't even got the real reasons yet, but it's infuriating to me that you pointed

at age of the monster and say you shouldn't have gone to BYU when guys like Michael Porter

Jr. at Missouri and Kate Cunningham at Oklahoma State, Trey Young at Oklahoma with a talk of

college basketball.

Why?

Because the brand of the school didn't get in the way.

Campbell's or is not bigger than Duke.

He's just another Duke player.

Zion went there.

Oh, it can tuck you at SGA and Carl Anthony Towns.

The brand is so big.

The list of alum is so much bigger where you just get kind of left in the middle of that

thing.

I think that guy went to Duke or maybe he went to Kansas.

No, no, no, no, he went to Yukon for the Bonsa.

You don't have that.

He's a BYU Cougar.

You have autonomy in how people talk about your collegiate career.

They don't talk about you behind the gauze of a Duke.

And you got to play for Kevin Young.

How are we going to sit here and say that Bonsa didn't have the fair shake?

Didn't have it as good at BYU as he would have had at other places.

Then the NBA's number one assistant alive.

Number one, the guy walking planet Earth right now who is the best in the biz in the National

Basketball Association has dropped down the college ranks to coach BYU and the Bonsa

didn't have a fair shake.

Didn't have enough talent.

Didn't have enough opportunity at BYU, 25 and a half points per game.

He led the nation in scoring.

I don't even think you would have led the nation in scoring it, Duke.

The lights get so bright.

They're expected to share the ball.

Everybody here is a five star.

You're a star.

We got to move things around.

That's not complimentary basketball.

There's a reason that Bonsa's numbers are so much better than Cameron Booser.

Oh, and this move has redefined in I.L.

There is the way that what I've been told is that the base deal was somewhere around

five million dollars with the understanding the bigger brands would give them a few million

dollars as well.

He's between seven and nine million dollars.

And it's somewhere closer to that seven range.

And you know what?

BYU got the return on investment.

Duke didn't need return on investment.

Kentucky didn't need that.

He was the undisputed.

Bonsa was the undisputed face of a program, face of a conference.

He didn't have to share the spotlight.

And typically there's share the spotlight thing comes with fatigue at places like Duke

or Kentucky.

Oh, yeah.

Well, all my buddies here playing the EYBL and I got to pass the basketball.

The Bonsa got to be the guy at all times, except for when Rob Wright, the third, took

the ball away from him during March Madness, that was bad.

And I don't think we're having this conversation.

I don't think these these pundits, these voices are saying these things, these silly things,

uneducated things.

I don't think they're saying these things if they really watched or they really paid attention.

I'm convinced though that they're turning my TV on and giving it 20 minutes.

They don't actually watch.

They don't actually pay attention.

They don't know the BYU lost five players like Richie Saunders, who is the glue guy,

the Bonsa's the best player Saunders is the most important player.

It's a pretty key distinction.

And the Bonsa, his individual soccer main bulletproof, he didn't lose anything.

He actually gained more, he gained more exposure to become the number one overall pick when

for the first three or four months of the season, it was going to be Darren Peterson.

The Bonsa's now the betting favorite.

And he had a double double 35 points against Texas.

Scouts saw the guy who said they said, look, he can, he doesn't have to carry, he doesn't

have to be on a duke and get carried.

Doesn't have to look like Darren Peterson at Kansas and be, you know, just okay.

Or Richie was she inconsistent.

He can take a depleted roster, a roster that's been decimated by injuries and produce elite

efficiency, 52% field goal percentage against the best defenses in the country, by the way.

He is rebranded BYU basketball.

He's gotten Bruce branched the third there.

He's proven a non-traditional power can have the number one pick.

And that BYU might actually be a premier one and done location.

If the Bonsa leaves, that is, whoa, whoa, Willie, whoa.

I'm just not, I don't get, we turn the TV on, man.

We turn the TV on and we're hearing things that are just, they make no sense, we want

to dilute what a player did this season because he went to BYU.

The hate for the big 12, the hate that, and this really isn't even a BYU conversation

to me or a big 12 conversation because all of our schools are facing this.

But the hate that we see, we receive, the hate that, that BYU receives, why, you know,

like it's easy to talk about a team and be straight up and be honest about it, but

also be nice and normal and not say the player made a big mistake, huge mistake by not

going, it was awesome.

That frame for sure, it was like, hey, Steven A. Smith, what the hell are you doing?

Stop.

No, that's wrong.

I watched these games.

I'm there at these games and you are wrong.

The Bonsa did not make a mistake by going to BYU.

He would tell you that.

His family would tell you that.

He might stay, he might stay at BYU.

And he's analysts that get paid way more than I do.

Don't know that because I don't think they actually watch.

He made the right choice by being in the big 12.

He was the face of the big 12.

It was good for the big 12 conference.

And I'm sure glad he was here, so AJ, I'm sorry that talking heads at the top of sports

didn't want you to go to BYU, they didn't like your decision.

They thought you hurt yourself.

Well, you're still the number one overall picks.

He did pretty okay out of this.

Silly man, silly again, we paid them a lot of money to have these takes.

Three teams I want to focus on here under achievers in big 12 basketball this season in three

different categories.

BYU was a team that should have been in the final four and they lost in the round of

64.

Yeah.

Baylor is a team that should be in March madness every year.

They won an actual championship.

They're a basketball school.

You have a sky.

It's a basketball school.

You have Scott Drew.

They missed the big dance.

Utah has resources, cares about athletics.

Just hired an NBA guy and they sucked absolute, but that's for our Baylor fans kept a

clean.

Thank you.

They cleared our achievers in the world.

We'll start with Baylor.

Let's do it.

What are the Baylor Bears have to do to flip this thing around because in an era of college

basketball or you can't keep players, they're all going to leave anyway, something has to

change.

I mean, obvious answer is you've got to reload in the portal, right?

But you end of segment.

There we go.

I mean, that's the simple answer, but honestly, what goes farther than that because like

you look back at last year's portal class and it's not that bad, you know, you got quality

pieces there.

The problem is that was your whole roster, right?

So really what needs to happen is Baylor needs to retain talent.

And first off, there's not a ton of talent that has that eligibility left, but they've

already started on the right path, dude.

The Isaac Williams one is big.

I'm not saying he's like an all big 12 guy or anything, but the guard was like really

coming into his own the last four or five weeks I'd say of the season and Baylor was

playing pretty good basketball, little to little to late.

The last like two, three weeks of the year.

So that is a huge start and keeping Jocelyn Bodo Bodo who did not play for them this year

because of an injury.

That was a dude who was a two time so-called defensive player of the year.

Like if you keep your big man on your point guard as Isaac Trotter laid out in a great

article last year, like that is the first step towards, you know, being competitive in

the trends for portal era.

So basically they need to knock out and replace their entire roster.

So so far so good.

You got one guy signed that's that's kind of the easy.

The easy part of it.

I think there's a distinct difference for Utah's in this rebuild stage and rebuilding can

be instant in college basketball today with the way that the rules are.

You can kind of do whatever you want.

The offseason and build an NBA roster if you'd like to be why you just are real quick,

real quick.

Yeah.

The University of Utah.

They don't want to insult Lake.

Well, that's the one.

You mean to tell me they have a men's basketball program.

Have they do they they don't play to check with Worcester.

So they don't play they have they run around the wreck sometimes and challenge students.

They typically lose to those to this head students Caleb Loner.

They were the shouldn't bad still Caleb Loner is there still he's on his seventh year

of college athletics before it becomes a senior associate, no, associate just associate

at Merrill Lynch.

Utah does have basketball.

They're in a different.

They're in the associate.

They sucked without expectation.

They have to go to the portal.

They have to reload conversely BYU did not suck, but they weren't elite.

They weren't great even even before Richie Saunders went out.

There are some holes to poke in that and part of that's because the entire roster was

decimated like we we sent five or six their players to Iran to fight for the United States.

They just couldn't play basketball for BYU that that holds you back.

I think each of these three teams who brought up her in distinct spots, the man, this BYU

Cougars for as much money as they spent getting bounced where they got bounced is not a

good sign.

Yeah, good news.

Good news.

We're talking about Baywe're needing to retain some talent.

Good news for BYU is Rob Wright is not a pro prospect this year.

So they'll keep him.

That's great.

And like look, I gave kind of BYU the benefit of the doubt a little bit like Richie Saunders

is such a good player and losing him is tough.

But that's kind of as far as it goes for me.

We talked about it.

They had the four game losing streak before Saunders went out or maybe he went out and

in that losing streak like they were already showing some sub signs of not life.

And when you have a team that is that good and supposedly that loaded and with that

high of an expectation, losing one of your two or three best players in February or late

January is does hurt you, but it should not sink you to the point where you are the

10 seed in your own conference.

You're a six seed in the NCAA tournament and you go out to an 11 in the first round.

Like that is a disappointment.

Any way you cut it and can anybody with anybody's big 12 team that had the expectation to

BYU had going into this year would agree with that even with the Richie Saunders injury.

Yeah.

There is.

I watched a lot of BYU basketball this year as a big 12 container watch tonight.

Iowa State, a lot of Kansas in watching BYU.

I think the issue wasn't always as much the injuries.

He was a profound thought.

It wasn't always as much the increase as it was trusting so and so to step up and develop.

Like, oh, this is the game where you can trust Bosco to be the guy or Boop to be the guy.

This is the game where I'm doing I'm at NBA all star former NBA champion two times back

where he walks in and dominates college basketball as he was supposed to.

Is everybody in America told me it's a problem big problem.

BYU got an NBA guy turns out I think he was more hurtful than he was helpful.

Most of the time he was always trust me.

I get that.

I kept hearing from BYU fans like this is where this is where Connard steps up.

This is where it's Bosco.

This is this is the Mondays game.

And none of those guys could fill that role in in the wake of other players being injured

so that they stepped up and were and were legitimate when they were healthy

that they were legitimate contenders.

And that is right there.

That is the difference between BYU and the teams that were at the top of this.

That were top of this conference that we're probably going out for office.

Exactly the point, you know, and Taman Lipsi, who I freaking love, man, he just steps up.

He goes for a career high when you need him to do that.

Same thing with with Arizona, you know, they got three or four options like BYU had to start the year.

And one day it's co-opied stay.

And one day it's Jaden Bradley's day sometimes.

They have guys the next day it's the other day Eastern European guy whose name has 11 vowels.

Yeah, exactly.

And BYU, you're right, didn't have that.

And Rob Wright's taking shots at the end of games when you have the number one pick in the draft.

I think that's really funny.

But that's why they are not Iowa state yet.

And I think it was not unreasonable to see this roster going into this year and think they could be an Iowa state.

By the way, Iowa state was Iowa state year one under Ozzelberger.

Yeah, they went under feeding and non-accompancy.

Hey, that turnaround was instant.

I think what we decided is I'll be under achievers Utah should just pack it in.

BYU should try to stay healthy and the Baylor Bears are on the right path.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.
