1:41
Now on the main show, we actually talked about what is going on with Patrick Mahomes
1:46
and the quarterback room.
1:48
And one of the listeners actually had the question of should they be getting a quarterback.
1:54
We're going to be talking about that.
1:55
And should they be looking at QB and the draft and what is a small update on the homes
1:59
as we saw it being reported.
2:02
I'm Chris Clark from Chiefs Corner.
2:03
He is Ryan Troy Tracy from NFL 33 and Rogan Analytics and RGR football.
2:09
To me, I think this is something that I thought the Chiefs should always do.
2:13
They should always be looking to go and get a quarterback in the draft because they haven't
2:18
drafted one in forever and they need somebody to develop.
2:22
Because I don't like paying veteran quarterbacks three or four million dollars a year if you
2:28
So it would be great for them to go out and draft somebody.
2:31
But who do you think that their options could be in the draft and do you think that they
2:35
will look in the draft?
2:37
I think Andy has mentioned it in particular.
2:40
And by the way, for anybody listening with the network, I think I need a foam finger that
2:43
says number one sports podcast now.
2:47
So I can wave that on the intros.
2:50
There's a lot of options and there's going to be drama at the top.
2:54
When you guys see my quarterback right back, they don't have Tyson some number two.
2:59
I have Nuss Meyer as a better option to come in and lead.
3:04
That's going to be a discussion.
3:05
And I think that's going to help overlook the fact that there are guys on day three that
3:09
should be available on day three anyway, that are worth a look.
3:15
If you were looking for someone to stand in and deliver the ball down field, I probably
3:22
He's probably going to be towards the top of day three is my guess.
3:26
But there's a lot of interest here in a guy like K club and who's run an offense quite
3:33
He doesn't have the arm that you really want.
3:35
He doesn't have the the ability to really improvise as much, but he is a good athlete.
3:41
And I think in a timing-based system, and this ties back into the kind of walker signing
3:50
If Patrick Mahomes is not starting for you, and I know when it happened, I said at least
3:56
he'd be out half the season, well, the chiefs are acting as if they know that Super Gumby
4:02
Patrick Mahomes is going to heal up a lot faster than I originally thought, like the
4:07
unnormal human being would have.
4:10
That said, whatever time he misses, whoever that is, they're going to have to be supported
4:16
That is part of the kind of walker signing as well.
4:17
Is that you have to have that run game to make sure the offense continues to move because
4:22
you're not going to get another Mahomes no matter what.
4:24
So could it be somebody like a tail and green who can throw the ball, but he's a hell of
4:29
an athlete that you could convert to something else later, that could be a very late possibility.
4:36
As I mentioned, Luke Altmeier, smart kid, can pretty much run any offense, again, not
4:42
as toolsy as you would like, in my opinion, but somebody that you could maybe stick in
4:48
There's another red raider in this class.
4:49
I don't think Brian Martin's a draftable grade, but that's me.
4:55
There's mighty maps, Diego Pavia, man, there's something about that guy.
5:00
He will just throw himself out there and throw himself to the wolves, get beat up, take
5:05
too many hints, because that's absolutely true, because he's a small guy, man, he was
5:10
able to be successful in the SEC.
5:13
Could he put it together for a few games that gets you through, possibly.
5:16
And if he does, you then have a trade tool to use.
5:20
I just think all of those guys have some kind of short ball that makes it hard to predict
5:25
that they could be successful if they were impressed in the services of work.
5:29
Yeah, and that's going to be the big question is, can you get somebody that can come in
5:33
and start and do something for you in season in this season, because it's possible that
5:38
my homes isn't going to be available.
5:40
We won't know for a couple more months whether or not he's going to be even close to being
5:44
available, but we will have you covered on that.
5:46
And when we get back, we're going to talk about the little bit of an update that we did
5:50
get right after this.
5:55

7:57
All right, so interestingly enough, we were not expecting a little bit of an update on
8:03
my homes, but we got one and I will let you talk about it since you are the medical guy.
8:11
I have not seen it, so tell me what it says.
8:14
Well, we did not get a verbal update, but we saw Patrick Mahomes is at the basketball
8:20
tournament, the big 12 basketball tournament is walking with no assistance and looks like
8:25
he is walking normally.
8:29
You know, that is one of the key points to be able to bear weight, right, especially
8:33
on an ACL because if you do not know the knee joint has to be opened and the ACL PCL
8:42
So putting it back together to bear weight on it is difficult.
8:45
And so that is one of the check points along the way that is really important.
8:50
The question for me would be, is how braced up is he, are they letting it move freely?
8:56
If so, we have seen the elasticity that his body seems to contain with the knee dislocation,
9:04
He was able to bounce back from that a whole lot better than anybody experienced.
9:08
With an ACL, it is the type of repair that kind of guides how long it could take.
9:16
From what we understand, there was a cleanup on the ACL as well.
9:18
I know some reports have been out there that that wasn't the case, but we got that the
9:22
week of the surgery.
9:23
So I am pretty confident that is still the case.
9:26
So honestly, if he is walking around, having a good time, I mean, as long as he is careful,
9:31
that is a great indication.
9:32
And if I know him, I know he is working and I know Bobby will be working to him eventually.
9:38
He is probably doing a little bit now, but you got to get to the progression point where
9:42
you can do multifaceted movement to really start that progression, build up that much
9:47
literature to be safe about it.
9:49
But it is a great step forward.
9:50
And if that is the case, then I think once again, Patrick Mahomes may outrun my return
10:00
to play path for him and what is the normal recovery time.
10:05
Well, and I always expect, I will say this, I always expected that Mahomes was going
10:10
to get done before everybody thought or would be back and playing before everybody thought
10:15
that he should be back and playing just because that's how Patrick Mahomes is.
10:19
He always seems to be pushing through stuff that you wouldn't expect players to be able
10:25
And I'm not saying he should have gone back out there and tried to play after the ACL
10:28
That's not what I'm trying to say.
10:29
But when you look at his ankle injuries of the past, when you look at his knee injury,
10:34
like he just has the ability to heal and to play through a little bit differently than
10:39
So when you look at how that's going to affect things, this goes back to what we kind
10:43
of started this conversation with was if he's going to be available, it's possible he's
10:48
available for the start of the season, but not able to do most of what he usually does
10:54
and move around as much as he usually does.
10:56
And that's fine because I think he can play as a pocket QB for the first part of the season
11:02
and gradually get back to where he was.
11:05
I don't think he'll be full 100% where he was maybe at all this year, but can he get
11:11
back to where he's 90, 95% and I'm sure he's going to be wearing a brace when he's playing.
11:16
So the other part of that is this can the team and can he decide to let it play out a little
11:23
bit and not necessarily do the things that Patrick Mahomes does to kind of try to extend
11:28
and play as the season because I think that could be very important for him as well.
11:32
Protect yourself Patrick yes and the good thing is this is going to be on his his plant
11:38
leg, not his driveway, right?
11:40
So it does take the force of his throwing motion, but it isn't generating it.
11:46
So as long as it's brace, you got to feel that if he stays in the pocket, he doesn't really
11:50
break too much with normal tradition.
11:53
He's going to be able to sustain that and get the ball out, maybe not as much as he usually
11:58
does, but honestly, he's never had to really drive with his legs unless it's 60 plus.
12:03
So the bulk of the offense until they start stacking the box, thanks to Kenneth Walker
12:09
is going to be there and available for him.
12:12
Yeah, and good luck on stacking the box because if you do that, I still think as you just
12:18
said, he doesn't need the power to throw the ball deep.
12:21
Unless he's throwing the ball 60 yards down the field.
12:23
So good luck with that because he can still step in and probably throw 40, 50 yards down
12:28
the field with a flick of the wrist in his arm.
12:31
And most Cubis can't say that.
12:33
So it's a little bit of an even bigger advantage for him in that regard.
12:37
I'm going to be very curious to see what kind of timeline we get when we get more information.
12:41
I don't think we'll get really any real updates on Patrick Mahomes.
12:45
I wouldn't imagine until closer to OTAs, it's going to be focused on free agency.
12:50
It's going to be focused on draft.
12:52
The updates that we will get on Mahomes is, oh, yeah, he talked to the new player that
12:57
Like, we're going to hear that stuff, but we're not going to get any medical updates.
13:01
I don't think at this point the chiefs generally don't do that.
13:04
So it'll be something to watch.
13:05
I'm going to be curious and watching Bobby Stroops feed on X as well just to see if we
13:11
see anything there.
13:12
But it's going to be curious.
13:14
I'm really going to be really interested to see if the chiefs are going to go look at
13:18
a QB in the draft this year.
13:21
Can they find somebody to come in and be Patrick Mahomes's backup for the next couple of seasons?
13:26
That's going to be the big question.
13:28
That's going to be it for us today.
13:29
Thank you all for listening and we will talk to you tomorrow.
