Paul Nockfe at 702 Injured.
You're listening to the Raiders Podcast Network, your official home for all things silver and black.
Dude is fast, dude hits hard, dude is here, quay walker, welcome to the Raiders number one
in congratulations.
I mean, what about the Raiders appealed to you to want to come here?
I just think my style of play it just fits this organization, I just think me coming in,
I feel like I can just bring a whole lot, I just think my intensity, the grit, just my
style of play, the physicality, everything that comes with me, I just think you fit me
being a Raider, you know what I'm saying?
That's pretty much it, I saw what I can say for now.
So that reputation then of the Raiders still carries on throughout the league is what you're
saying.
For sure.
Fun fact here, the Packers drafted you with the same pick they acquired from the Raiders
in the Devonte Adams trade.
So did you know that coming in or is that just something that, I definitely did, I knew
that around the time I got drafted, so I kind of knew about that for sure.
Okay, so I guess some things were meant to happen, huh?
Yeah.
What do you know about the Raiders history?
Honestly, I'm not going to sit right here and in front, it's not a whole lot that
I know about the Raiders, but I'm willing to learn over the few days, over the days
that I have.
And I promise you, I learned way more about it, but honestly, the only thing I can really
reflect on is the Raiders being located in Oakland, you know, I'm saying that everything
that they come from there, and I learned a lot from Rich Pasachi, I just hear him talk
about the Raiders and everything, Kishan, it's guys like that, Josh too.
So I kind of know a little bit, but I need to learn a little bit more of my own, you know,
and do my own research and see what I can go from there.
Same thing about Las Vegas, then, too, what do you know about the city of Las Vegas coming
out here?
I think we all know about Las Vegas.
That's my own.
Good heart of that, but it's a lot, man, but it's my first time actually, my second time
actually being here, the first time I came was, was when when you played the Raiders on
the money night game, and I never really had the chance to experience the city, you get
a feel for it, but I'm here for good now, so, yeah.
You talked about just your tenacity, the way you play the game, and that's more of a
mental side of the game anyway, but from your skill set, how do you fit with what the
Raiders want to do going forward as we watch some of your highlights here in the All-22?
You're three, and they go into the three-four scheme as well.
How do you fit into that?
A three-four scheme.
That's something I've already played in when being at UGA, not only that, I think Rob will
use me the right way, whether that's at Mike Will, as a sound, whatever the case may
be.
I just think he's going to use me the right way, and he can line me up in different places,
just but how athletic, how athletic I am, excuse me, there's so much that I can do, a team
can't really recognize what, if he's here, he's going to do this, if he's in the boundary
or the field, you're probably going blitz, so whatever the case may be, it's just so much
that you can do with me, and I think Rob is going to set me up for success in the right
way.
You know Rob Leonard at all already?
For sure.
Okay, so what do you think about him being the defensive coordinator, and how much of a
part did that play and you wanted to come here?
I played a lot because I just know his intensity and what he brings day in and day out, I kind
of got, I ain't going to say I deserve them already, but I got some feedback from Stokes,
Stokes, I reached out to him, got a lot of feedback from him, and he reminds me of old coach
mine that he's pretty much friends with, who's the DC at another place, but at the time
come, I went out to eat the dinner with him yesterday, and just having the conversations
and everything like that with him, it was just so much that I pretty much really lighted
about him, and I can't wait to get to work with him, you know.
So you're fired up to get on the field, but for that it's going to be a reunion you mentioned
earlier about the Georgia Bulldogs, not just you and the Kobe Dean, Brock Bowers, Eric Stokes,
I mean what are you guys trying to accomplish here with this reunion?
I don't know, y'all taught a spy about that, I think a spy hooking us up, but yeah man,
it's a tremendously bonded, I have with those guys, and hopefully we could just bring the
culture and the competitive spirit here, not saying it's not already here, but just
add a little bit more to it and go from there.
Line up, when it comes to a lot of football players, and when you guys played in high school,
obviously you stood out on the football field, but you also stood out in basketball.
Yeah.
What position were you playing, and why would you describe your game back in high school
playing?
I can hoop for sure.
I don't know about now, but I play like the three and the four, but the main reason behind
that, I think I was kind of in love with basketball, before football, an old mentor,
a mentor of mine, a coach came by, he got the head coach's job at my high school for
football, and at the time I was just focused on basketball, that was it.
I never thought I'd play football again, and he saw me in a gym, came to a game or practice
whatever the case.
He said something that stuck with me, he was like, you sit three, six four, you're playing
in power four, he's like, sit three, six four, those are division one point guards.
He's like, sit three, six four is pretty big in football, and he saw my size and how
I could run.
And I switched over to football, and the rest was history after that, honestly.
So you did have, you won a regional title in hoops in 2017 at Crisp County High School in
Cordell, Georgia.
Yes, sir.
Then you made the switch to football.
Yeah.
And then throughout your years with the Packers, I've seen that you've really taken active
interest in meditation.
Yeah, for sure.
How would you describe that and how does that help you?
Not only on the field, but maybe even more so off the field.
Man, it just helped me so much.
Just about me growing up along being the only child, sometimes I can fade off and just
being my thoughts a whole lot, and sometimes my thoughts can control me.
Not any more, I want to say.
So sometimes I, some days are good, some days are bad, you know what I'm saying.
I'm human.
I'm not afraid to admit that.
But me meditating is just coming by down a whole lot, because I just overthink sometimes.
And some situation may not even be bad, but sometimes I could just stay in my way into
a specific mood or whatever the case that may be.
And meditation is just, just calm me all the way down and just bring me to peace and
just give me love of mine, and ever since I'm dead, ever since I started, I've been in
love with it.
And I pretty much, it's the way that I start my day, sometimes I wake up, so just keep
me calm, honestly.
Keeps you going?
Yeah.
Quay, what is something that Raider fans should know about you that maybe they don't know
already?
As we don't know this interview, I'm talking a whole lot, but I really don't talk.
I was going to say.
I really don't talk as much.
I'm just quiet.
I just like to go up on my business, but I'm not one of those guys who I'm down to
earth.
I don't mind having any conversation with anybody, speaking or whatever the case may be.
But I just love all kind of, I consider myself kind of boring, because that's really all
I do.
Besides probably fishing, man.
Other than that.
It's chilling, but that's a whole lot that I could say, but then again, I'm a man
if you were.
So I can't really say too much.
I feel like that.
I want to say it, but I hear what you're saying.
So meditation, man, a few words, and you're just going to show it on the field.
That's it, man.
Just show up and play.
Do my job.
Quay, thanks for stopping by.
I appreciate it.
Congratulations again.
