Rat Race (2001)

About this episode

The Confused Breakfast is made possible by:

We’re racing back to 2001 for Rat Race. Is this an underrated comedy classic, or do you need some serious nostalgia for this kind of dumb, over-the-top slapstick to still work? Does the movie’s decision to keep its foot on the gas for nearly two hours make it more entertaining, or eventually just exhausting? How the hell do these people commit so many felonies and never have the cops come looking for them? And did the Baja Men really think “Rat Race” was going to be their follow-up hit to “Who Let the Dogs Out”? Grab your locker key, stay the hell away from the squirrel lady, and remember: there are no rules. Well, hello and welcome to the Confused Breakfast Podcast. Do you remember the pure joy of a trip to the video rental store as a kid? I do. Sure, it's hard to beat the ease and the convenience of the modern streaming era, but the experience of a Friday night trip to blockbuster to make the big and sometimes tough decision of what movie was coming home with you was a truly magical experience. We're here to revisit the era and movies that shaped us and defined our childhoods. My name is Mike Schulte joining me as always two dudes tragically born without a personality. Sean, prior to AJ Vens, how the heck are ya? I try to get one by watching movies, you know what I'm saying? Oh, yeah, that's like your identity. Yeah. I do that too. Could have been worse. It could have been like Dexter. Like when I watched in Sino Man for the first time and then tried to wear the same outfit that Link wears once he's cool in high school. Yeah, that became my identity. A year later, it was just not cool whatsoever. Yeah, and I still had really big wool socks and chucktail or high tops on.

And it was short. 90 degrees out. Correct. Yes, it's hot for that. One time I found a hat like Slaters and got a wig and wore his exact outfit to a basketball game in high school because I'm like, I'm Slater. You wore a wig? Yeah. Yeah. How else am I supposed to look like Slater? You got long hair, dude. You grow your hair. I wanted it now. That seems like some weird form of cultural appropriation. I'm not going to lie. The stoners are outside taking me. Yeah. Can't be us. Hey, you can't do that. Well, dudes, we got a very special episode for you today. We get a lot of requests, emails coming through, but every once in a while, you should feel special because the email hits us at a nice point, right? So this is a request for a movie from Deployed Medical Combat Logistics Battalion 2. Greetings. Confused breakfast, Jens. We have to say that we here at Combat Logistics Battalion 2 Medical Team all love your podcast. We've made it a weekly morale Thursday morning where we listen to the weekly post in the

morning as we prepare for patients and care for those around our area of operation. Recently, we created our own version of the little Lebowski Urban Achievers. We like to call the out of our element Donnie's and we held a vote of our own to request for one of your next reviews. This came to an all time classic, but possibly underrated comedy of rat race. If you guys could find it in your busy schedule and time to dedicate a podcast to my crew and add that little joy of a review, it would mean the world to them. Much appreciation for all you guys do. Don't ever stop doing what you're doing. The impact you have of bringing joy around the world is unmatched, much love and respect. That comes from Mark A. Gasberry Senior Enlisted Lead, CLB2 Fleet Surgical Team, the Catalina Wine Mixer is their unit nickname. Whenever we have a chance to honor an email like that, we're going to do that. Yeah. Catalina Wine Mixer. We'll just surpass any next Kubrick film that I have on the list for you guys to get weird out about.

Right. Holy so. I don't think you really got the movie Sean. This is the bit of a palate cleanser. Yeah. So that's really what it is. So thanks Mark. Cheers to all you guys when you come back. We'll have some Cedar Ridge with you. But yep, you guessed it. Today's movie is 2001's rat race. We're going to be doing a scene by seeing deep dive analysis on the entire movie. But first we need to talk nostalgia, fun facts and reviews to set the stage. Sean, tell me the first time you ever saw this movie. Whoa. Probably, I think we probably rented this one. Maybe it was just on TV. But I remember watching it with my mom. I brought there a whole bunch and kind of thinking that it was like a little, like why isn't anybody talking about this one to be like to be honest. And everyone was talking about like honestly, like Hot Rod and other movies like fucking fight club came out at the time or some shit. And yeah, I'd be we watched this one and fucking laugh our asses off and be just shocked at the cast. And we were really into Mr. Bean at the time too.

So Rowan Ackinson being in this movie was a plus for us. I'm going to give it a eight and eight without rowing a seven with rowing and eight. Sean Nostologically, AJ, what about you? That's out. Yeah. One of the networks had this in syndication and that's how I watched it the first time over the span of like several days because it was just on like constant repeat. You know, it's one of these like weird anomaly movies that this is everything that you should kind of want as a kid. And I remember laughing, but I also remember being just like, yeah, like somehow being a little bit exhausted by it. But that all being said, I mean, I still, there are still a lot of moments that I laughed my ass off. And I had again, like you say Sean, Mr. Bean, like you saw Mr. Bean and I think that's why I stuck around. Yeah. Was because it was Mr. Bean. And I'm just like Rowan Ackinson is amazing. And then John Lovitz and I'll get into more of it later here. But I think Nostologically good old TBS style.

I would go ahead and give this a 7.25. 7.25. I fucking hated this movie the first time I saw it. We're talking 2001. I am a Boondock Saints fight club guy. I'm getting ready to watch the fucking notebook and shit with my girlfriend. Rat race seemed like a movie made for adults that only kids liked. Where's the revenge? I didn't like Mr. Bean. I was like, I was a, it's a mad mad mad mad world fan. My dad and I watch that all the time. So I'm like, oh, it's gonna be like that. This fucking sucks compared to that. So I watched this one time and never wanted to revisit it ever again. It's true. It's a, it is like mad mad mad world or a cannibal run. A speed zone. Remember that movie I was telling you about with John Candy in it and like a Lamborghini and shit. No, 80s. Well, I have to figure that one out. No, I don't. I don't. Now I'm pissed. John Candy, Eugene Levy, they're all on a trip across America, racing each other. Can't wait. Well, as a group, actually, I'm sorry, we do have an executive producer today.

Nick Mads on the podcast today. He says over the years, I've crossed paths with this film many times at various video rental locations, DVD libraries and streaming services. And every single time I cried out, not today. So he's gonna be an NA, nostalgicly as well, as a group for us. We're gonna be fairly low. Did I give it a rating? I said two. Two's my rating. You're not gonna give it a rating. It's pretty low, guys. That's pretty low. That's a 5.75 as a group. That brought us down to reality. Yeah, that brought us down there. So 5.75 is going to tie this with Bill and Ted's excellent adventure and Napoleon Dynamite as far as nostalgic ratings are concerned. Okay. Kind of surprising. Yeah, a little bit. But what we did was we all watched the movie again. Yeah. You guys, we just watched it again. We did. And now we're gonna talk about it from a modern eye. Sean hook us up with the details. We need to know. I looked this stuff up. Produced by Sean Daniel, Janet Zucker and Jerry Zucker, written by Andy Breckman.

He also wrote the incredible 70s horror movie tour strap. Love that one. And in a bunch of episodes of Monk. Music by John Powell. He also did face off. Shrek. Sam Drumline, Solo Star Wars story and Don't Worry Darling. Edited by Tom Lewis. He did the Water Boy, the whole nine yards and Jonah Hex cinematography by Thomas Ackerman. He did the underrated horror movie in the 80s. New Year's evil. He also did back to school. Beetlejuice, Jumanji, Benchwomers and balls of fury directed by Jerry Zucker. He's of course been on the show before. Airplane, Topseeker, Oothas people, First Night and Ghost. Cast. Kuba Gooding, Jr. Seth Green, Lene Chaatman, Wuppie Goldberg, John Love, it's Kathene Jimi, Brody Smith, Rowan Ackinson, John Cleese, Amy Smart, Dean Kane, Rantz Howard and Smashmouth. Name the band members. No, no, no. Name one of them. No, no, no. It's probably like Blaze Darnold.

Rat race started off as a spec script. That is in the early 2000s name. It was about ever fucking Erdogan. But with the Z, B-L-A-Z-E. Yeah, of course. Race started off as a spec script by writer. Roy Garbitt, sorry. I don't know. Darryl Corals. That's a good one. Yeah. Yeah. It was auctioned by Hollywood pictures in Jerry Brookheimer. The script ultimately made its way to Paramount and Jerry Zucker was tapped to direct with rewrite from Andy Beckman. As Las Vegas was confirmed for a shooting location, the film was also starting to confirm its tetular cast. Amy Smart and Brett and Meyer were confirmed. And John Cleese said it, this was one of two scripts in his life where he read it and immediately accepted the rule. Kind of. He thought it was one of the funniest things he's ever read. He also has gone a record, say it's one of his favorite like filming experiences of Walter. Oh, wow. Cool. Like Vegas, baby. The film was primarily shot along the highways of Calgary, Alberta for most of the exterior

shots before moving to Los Angeles to shoot in various casinos after hours, of course. The defunct Curry Barracks, now a functioning studio for film and television productions was used for most of the green screen work and used in the film as well as served as various sets for the film. Rat Race was released on August 17, 2001 and on a budget of 48 million, the film made 85.5 million modest at the box office and went on to sweep the Oscars that year with nine wins just kidding. It didn't do that at all. The film is going on to Garner somewhat of a cold hit. Okay. Well, like Sean, now we got to go to AJ. He's going to tell us what the fans and the critics had to say about this. What do you got? Let's see if we're going to naked. Jirkuzy, Pepto Bismol, toenails, shaved my butt, ducks and the 10 meter meter. Cool. What are you about five grand? Five grand. Five grand, who had five grand? 44% who had 44%.

Come on. All right. Listen to what that's tied with. Of all the movies we've done, it's tied with mortal combat and the great outdoors per the critics. Oh, man. How bad? Well, 64% popcorn meter, a little bit of a disagreeance there and a 6.5 on IMDB. It's tied with Air Force One road trip and base kit ball. Hey. I think there's some good company there. Some good comedy company. Air Force One hilarious. Oh, so good. So good. Hair is in form. I'm tied to the comedy chops. Just, yeah. Mick Lasal, San Francisco Chronicle, 100 out of 100. The funniest film to come along since South Park and one that succeeds in more than a more difficult and satisfying way. Okay. Wow. Yeah. It's less crude. Yeah. You know, for the whole family, there's a lot of fun here. Yep. I love Nazi jokes. Yeah. Yeah. So especially when it's John Lovitz. Yeah. Come on.

Yeah. Speaking of Nazi jokes, Leah Schwartzbaum, 83 out of 100. Oh, my God. Nothing. There. You know. Okay. The easy going silly. You can't just justify something by going, well, you know, well, I just did. You know, I gotta go see Jim Stancell. You know, I mean, he's that guy. Yeah. Exactly. Oh, this is going not too terribly great. 83 out of 100. I didn't know it weekly the easy going silliness with which the late Summer movie surprised Skuttles from mayhem to mayhem and the verb and the verb with which the cast throws it yourself into the Frey are so cheering and liberating that is a long sentence. It's just let's just drop some bands. Yeah. It might reveal the verb and the Frey.

Oh, man, it might have been right there in time. That you can CKY and the blacks on. Let's see, Richard Schickel, at time, he said, it's a fine madness full of jaunty desperation, survivable disasters and the kind of ferocious concentration on a really stupid idea that once propelled Wiley Coyote as an 80 out of 100. These scores are very high. They are very high. Well, these are the critics. Like I say, let's bring them on down to our to a new level here, Robert Kohler, Kailer, variety gave it a 20 out of 100. A line of comic actors running on empty long before the dust ever settles. Oh, oh, got him. Wall Street Journal Joe Morgan Stern. That sounds like Wall Street Journal guy. Absolutely. He's a Wall Street man. Is that a hyphen Morgan dash Stern? No, it's just Morgan Stern. That's weird. And that's even worse. Yeah. So Morgan Stern, give me the reports on the tower.

Morgan Stern, where are those numbers? I asked for. I hope you're staying late tonight. Yes, sir. Christmas, see, or no, Christmas, see, Mr. Schwartz, bomb. Yes. Yes. Oh, this rip off directed by Jerry Zucker has a few funny moments, but is it a sad, sad, sad, sad example of what? What Hollywood is currently there? There's four. Good. What Hollywood is currently serving up and what audiences are swallowing as summer entertainer. Right. Oh, got him. Let's see. This is just a list of good things from Letterbox. Seth Green, Mr. Bean, Cuba Goodings, Cuba Goodings, Lucy Seen, Kathy Bates, Amy Smart, Newman with a transplant heart. Maybe it's a song that they wrote. I don't know. $2 million dollar gold, Breck and Meyer, starring role. I wonder if I could do this in a smashmouth song.

It sounds, it sounds like more like a bear naked lady. John Loving Swartz, Tommy Seth Green, Mr. Bean, Cuba Goodings, Lucy Seen, Kathy Bates, Amy Smart, Newman with a transplant heart. It's pretty good. Thanks, man. It's not bad at all. $2 million dollars gold, Breck and Meyer, starring role. Love is driving Hitler's car. John Cleese, Morgan where they are. Vegas, Pierce Goon, Cowhanger from an Air Balloon, WobbG, Locker Key, Smash Bros. Council, finally. I fucking hate it. We didn't start the rat race. It's always been blasting since ensemble casting. We didn't start the rat race, but I would watch it today if I owned it on Blue Ray. It sounds like a sum 41. By not bad, it's extremely dated and good impersonation of 2001.

Well, now I want to do all of these in Smash Bros. style. I'll get up to you. Look, it's either that or a guy for your big depression. We might as well just talk about that scene now because I can't wait. Five stars. Honestly, fuck anyone who hates this movie. When you even want to talk to you, one of the best comedies ever made, one of those laugh every two seconds movies that has me smiling throughout and I will never get bored of it. That's a review. That's a review. Love that for you. Man, smash that guy's mouth with your mouth. Make out with him. Yeah. Two and a half stars. This came out one month before 9-11. Yeah. Cool. That's just a note to be had for two and a half stars. It barely missed. And then rock star really hit the towers. Okay. Ending on the cast crowd serving as Smash Bout Concert is the most 2001 thing ever.

Yes. It's never been anything more 2000. No. No. That was two stars, three and a half stars. Not only as Smash Bros. All-Star used on ironically in this, but so is who let the dogs out. We're going to feed the world tonight. Yeah. Four stars. Typical. I had to learn from a movie that two black women currently hold the land speed record. Get it together, America. How about this? Hit the figures, man. It's what's all about. Hit the figures. Who let the dogs out plays as I turn the corner and get jumped by a gang of film critics. One of whom is flipping and going with this thumb for giving rat race for tire stars. Three and a half stars and jack this 2000 shit right into my veins. Four and a half stars. This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. And I loved every second of it. Well, excuse me, man. Have your attention, please. Thank you all for tuning into the

podcast today. I'm Mike Schulte. I'm one of the owners and founders of this podcast. Unfortunately, we don't have much time. There's a meteor at the size of North Carolina heading straight for Earth. The impact's going to kill everything and everyone in this planet. I built a bunker in the basement of our studio building strong enough to withstand the blast. There's room enough for eight more people. And we obviously want to spend our time with fellow movie lovers, which is why we're telling you first, first come first serve. Come to Cedar Rapids. And this is over. It'll be up to us to repopulate, resevalize the planet and maybe like write some movies. Amy smart. I couldn't resist. I didn't. This is just a review of rat race. You will stink. So scene one casino owner Donaldson Claire creates a secret gambling game for his wealthy guest.

Six contestants are given keys to a locker in Silver City, New Mexico containing $2 million with whoever gets their first winning everything. The racers include brothers Dwayne and Blaine, a strange mother and daughter Vera and Merrill, disgraced referee Owen, Randy Pairn, his family, narcoleptic tourists and Rico and attorney Nick. They quickly race out of Las Vegas unaware Sinclair's guests are betting on the outcome. I fucking hate this intro so much. Okay. I know you were looking at me for, for like, let's talk about the intro. This I, I skipped it completely in the second time I watched the movie. It, uh, it's pretty fun other than the song. Hello rat race. It's Bob. What? Bob. A man wrote a song called rat race. Like for the movie. I don't know if they wrote it for the movie. I will check that. But the song combined with the animation. Well, we just don't need it. Well, while you look that up, what,

what would be worse that they wrote it without it being for the movie or what they wrote it for? The other, the flip side of that, they, the movie approached them to write it and they took it. Yeah. Like what's worse? What, what, what evil do you want? What you choose? Because this is a choose your own adventure. It, uh, there's, there's like a documentary of Bahamian that was written specifically for the movie. Isn't there like 27 Bahamian or something like that? Yeah. There's like a lot of interchangeable. Yeah. I think there's a franchise. There's a lot of Bahamian. There's a documentary about the making of that song, uh, who left the dogs. Whatever. It's actually fast. I'm sure it is. But like, if, like, if they were looking for another hit. Yeah. This, it wasn't, it wasn't this. This isn't going to be it. It's not, I'm sorry guys, not going to be this. They were looking for another animal analogy to go off of and it just fell flat. I have a question for you guys. Do you have you ever gone to a hotel and checked out of it?

Oh, yeah. Well, it's for some reason I still feel obligated to do. You do? But I do because I feel like, I feel like, and I know for a fact every time I get up there, they're probably like, God, what is this guy doing? Because you totally used to have to back to, because you had to like pay your bills. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And like, now they're just like, okay, thanks. There's, you gave me the keys and there's a little drop box right there. And I know why you handed me these dirty keys that I'm going to throw away anyways. And, um, yeah, do you want to receive? Okay. And then they just pretend to click some buttons like you're all checked out. That's a fuck. Dude, I purposely like, I leave my keys in the room and refuse to make eye contact with the front desk. Yeah. I just walk the fuck out. Right. I've never checked out of a hotel before. What about how do you feel about the, um, like now some places have it on the TV. And they're like, ah, Mr. Shulti, would you like, would you like to do an early checkout or like, you know, do any, like schedule your checkout now? I refuse. Like none of that. No. They just, they're just like,

I think he's out of there. Well, sometimes I'll leave the door like locked unlocked so that it's open halfway. Okay. But I know you're gone. It doesn't matter. You're right. All right. It doesn't matter. I pay for this. And at least, at least it's not a fucking Airbnb where I have to do the dishes and take the trash out. I completely. She's surprised. That is a conversation we need to have for sure. Like I'm dead serious. That's it's the Airbnb's used to be such a great idea. And then you're like, take out the trash and do the dishes. Where's this? My house. Well, put the sheets in the washer and start the load. No. Ever since I've been so gratefully able to do the podcast full time, it's been amazing. But it's also been a little stressful with my life being a full-time student. That means I'm the sole provider for our household. I know you may think by listening to me on the show. Wow. He knows a lot about movies and told me that Brooks from Shawshank Redemption has never seen behind bars until he's out of prison. What a great piece of analysis. He must really have it all together. Well, yes, you're right.

But when it comes to my finances, that is unfortunately one of my shortcomings. Until I found rocket money, rocket money is an incredible budgeting app that can help you set a budget, manage your spending, and rocket money can even help track subscriptions and help you get rid of unwanted ones within the app in just a few clicks. Remember that word app you downloaded to help you learn new words so you can see them cool and sophisticated on your podcast? No? Just me? Well, rocket money can help you remove that from your spending when you inevitably forget you even had it. When my wife and I were planning our wedding, I set a financial goal within the app, which helped me save for the biggest day of my life. Rocket money also lets you see your net worth so after you've become a finance expert by using rocket money, it makes you feel pretty cool like how the Ocean's 11 team has to fell after they've got the big score. Rocket money also consolidates checking savings loans and investments into a single dashboard that gave me a clear review of my financial picture. Basically, all the big scary words that can seem daunting when dealing with finances, I can confidently say just like Kevin McAllister, I'm not afraid anymore.

So guys, be like your humble narrator and get rocket money. Again, rocket money is a personal finance app that helps you find and cancel unwanted subscriptions, monitors your spending, and helps lower your bills so you can grow your savings. Let rocket money help you reach your financial goals. Join at rocketmoney.com slash confuse. That's rocketmoney.com slash confused. Have you ever opened the fridge? Stared into it for five minutes and somehow convinced yourself that there is nothing to eat? I feel like that happens way more often than it should. Butcherbox has a solution from my family and I. It makes quality protein the easiest option when it comes time to cook because the easiest dinner shouldn't always be the one that comes from a drive-thru. Butcherbox delivers 100% grass-fed beef, organic chicken, wild-caught seafood, and more. All sorts to standards that they can actually tell you about. They've already done the research and made the tough sourcing decisions, so all you have to do is decide what's for dinner. Every box is customizable, so you can choose the cuts and proteins that fit your routine. So whether you're grilling for friends,

feeding the family on a Tuesday, or just trying to avoid another expensive takeout order, you've already got great protein ready to go. I love seeing the classics in there like some of the strip steaks and the ribbyes especially, but I also really like seeing the things I'm not going to normally buy at the grocery store like ground bison or a good flat iron steak. The seafood options are amazing, I can get a laskin salmon, but my wife's favorite thing I can make for dinner is scallops and guys the scallops are so good. And I'll admit it, I got the organic chicken nuggets because I knew that they would be something easy and convenient to make for my son, but they might be mine now. So if you're looking for an easier way to get great meals on the table, give Butcherbox a try. Go to Butcherbox.com slash breakfast to get $20 off your first box. And then watching Shrek 10 times. He doesn't want to look somebody in the eyes when he's got to look at the camera. The computer and be like, how there were some charges there. It said he watched the Grinch for 10 minutes. But I don't know if you remember that. That was a serious thing. Like hotels back in the day, the TVs had pay per view. You could click one little button. And AfroHorror's would pop on the TV. And nothing was stopping that. God forbid you eat the chocolate that's there. That's unlike the weighted pay thing. Yeah, it's like if it's gone for too many seconds, you're going to get charged. The bottles of water that are somehow the most inconvenient price.

You can't even leave $1 bills. It's like, yeah, that'll be $7.75 for this bottle of water. There was a Fiji bottle that was 12 ounces in my hotel last week. That was $7.99. It's rich boy. I only see the Nestle bottles there. That's why he's got his Ascension in Waterloo. Yeah, exactly. What do I have? Oh, yeah. I have stuff. Ascension. I bring all the fluids here. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you got to. You got to. I'm going to get another beer. Okay, great. Okay, what do you think about this dude Vince Villeufe? I know his face. He plays Blaine. Oh, yeah. And I've seen his face a million times. He seems great, right? Oh, yeah. But this character is so shitty. He seems like he got everything that Vince was going to do from here on out got replaced by Dak Shepherd. That's the way I think. Okay, like Dak's just sort of took over. He's kind of smugging. I see Matt Gowell. I'll take over. Yeah, yeah. He kind of snuck in there. Like he's like a, like basically and now now I know exactly

why I'm making these references. But it's basically like he should have been in without a paddle. And he and he wasn't. So this is the tongue. Matthew Lillard. Yeah, Matthew Lillard and Dak Shepherd have taken all of his roll. Yes, if he wasn't with anybody else except for Seth Green in this movie, it would be obnoxious. And it is still obnoxious. The tongue ring thing. I think it's fucking hilarious. The whole speaking, I thought it was really funny the first time I watched it. And then I kind of had it in the background the second time I watched it. I'm like, holy shit, I got to turn this down. Because it's just him screaming. It's it. His screams are funny, but the tongue piercing thing's so unnecessary. Like we don't have to do this. They can just be bros. Yeah. And they can talk and have conversations. I want to preface anything that I say during the show, by the way, because this is the battalions fair and movie. Yes. That I really liked this movie. Yeah. I really liked revisiting it, but I'm going to talk some shit. Because it's fucking dumb. I will preface that as well too, because what makes me happy,

even if I give this movie a four at the end of the day, it still makes me so happy that they are watching this and having a good time with this movie. In fact, that's the place to watch the movie, not my basement by myself. This is like, I see where you're coming from by saying, they don't really need him to have a tongue piercing and have this weird sort of affect all the way through the movie. But what movies do this anymore? What movies just make a choice and stick with it? And they just don't let this gag go. Yeah. You know, and they were going for the rainman, like the brother's super slow. And I thought for sure, I'm like, they're going for this. Las Vegas. Yeah. Oh, it's just a tongue piercing thing, guys. And I think that that's the important thing, because it's like, you know, Seth Green and Vince Valuve are like, pinkie in the brain, essentially, right? Seth Green's kind of, he's got the schemes and he's putting it all together. It's a great way to put it. And he kind of got to have this, like, you got to at least give us right off the bat why he's pinkie, why he's maybe the dumb one, if you will, right?

Because he pierced it himself, hit a nerve. It's bluer than blue. You got to get, when my son needs a fucking sucker, you know what I mean? And what you say, he got a kid. He's got a kid. He's got a green set. He got a kid. And it's like, like John Lovenson's initial reaction. Oh my God, you should sue somebody. You did it himself. What do you say? You did it himself. It's like it. Yeah, I get. And so, but like, that's, I think that that's an important thing. They need to know how, how he's stupid. And then you're right, they just stuck with the bit. Yeah. And I, there's, my favorite, one of two of my favorite people to return to during the story. When it pops back to them in the story, you're like, let's go. They have the biggest gag. They do throughout the, throughout the story. And these gag says we'll talk about are fucking fantastically done. And I like, really funny guys, I have to, I have to say that Wiley Wiggins definitely grew up to be this Seth Green character.

Because this is exactly what Wiley would grow up to be wearing a fedora. And he's trying to come up to the story. I in 2001. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Vegas, man. All rules are up. I know. Yeah, exactly. So we're all hats. The Nick being here for a basketball party is just like not surprising whatsoever. Weird basketball party. Oh, actually, let's hit this while we're at it. Because this is important. If we were on a train to go punch a face, I'm on board. Hashtag I'm talking about? Why does Nick's buddy look so fucking weird? Yeah. The kid that comes up that like peer pressures him into doing stuff, this got to be the weirdest person I've ever seen in my entire life. This is that friend that comes up to you, especially in Vegas, is like Nick, you sack a shit fucking idiot. Punches you in the balls. Good to see you, bro. Yeah. He'll sell and sell. Yeah, fucking like punches you in the, in the, in the shoulder. And then it's like that wasn't hard enough. So he punches you in the fucking ribs and is like, I love you, man. Why you fucking leave it? Oh my god. Like what a shitty, what a shitty character

and what a weird looking dude. You just look so 2001. Like his haircut is outfit. Everything about it just made me go, pretty sure this is Sullivan in next week's movie. One day Sullivan, you fucker. Solid. Solid. One of these days guys will do, will do boiler room and we'll understand finance, bros of the 2000s, like late 90s early 2000s. We haven't done that movie. We haven't done boiler room. And it's just, it is this with oversized clothes. Apparently the bigger your clothes were, ball chain necklaces. Yeah. It's just, it was important. And that's how you showed you were important. Is it really surprised to see whoopee in a movie? Again, actually, I just put this together. It's Jerry Zucker. Yeah. That's why she's here because of ghost. She won a fucking Academy Award with, with him. I feel like whoopee hit, whoopee hit ghost. She hit sister act. She made fuck boat loads of money and then literally could care fucking less.

Well, she had to been like on the cusp of doing the view, right? Yeah, I'm sure. And then she just rode that to play. Because she's fucking terrible in this movie. I kind of like her. I just feel like she came for the paycheck and was on set for seven days and just, I kind of like, you're probably right. But like, there's something about her where it's just like, there's the ghost charm is not, here, but it's still kind of where there's something in Deering. I just like, she's so positive about everything. I love that kind of character of just like, she might have bought a squirrel. If she had bought the squirrel, we'd be all right. They would have won the thing. You know, it's, it's actually very true. And I watched some of the behind the scenes, like making of the movie and everything. And where? YouTube. Internet. He owns the DVD. No, I don't. It's what it got. Maybe I do. It's like, but no, like, I watched it. And her demeanor, like just being whoopee Goldberg

and kind of explaining her set, like she's like just kicked back just like, you know, this I carried it just this and does that. And then like when you see her actual character and her putting on the performance, you're like, damn, she's really putting a lot into it. I love her as an actress. So yeah, she's insufferable as a real person, unfortunately, but I love her as an actress. Yeah. And I think that I think that she is really great, especially again, we're talking about some, some duos here. We're like teaming up the teams, right? We've got Pinky and the Brain. We've got the lovable mom and the, with the strange daughter and the hateable, like who's just kind of a psychopath, business person now. And like, like, it's a fun dynamic. Family, but that's the problem with this movie. There's too many people to care about any of them. I don't know, man. I kind of do. Where I think they succeed at it. This is a movie I think they succeed at it, because we only see them all together near the beginning and then near the end. And then beyond that, everybody's got their own shit going on. There are definitely some that are more successful than others.

Absolutely. I will say, but like I think I tend to agree with AJ on this. It's, I think it is one of the ones that does it a lot better of like, these are recognizable enough actors, especially in these roles to make us love them. Like John Loveitts and Kathana Jimey, how were they not an actual couple? I know. Do you know who Kathana Jimey is married to? Uh-huh. Fucking crazy. She's married to Dan Finnerty of the Dan Band. No shit. Yeah, they've been married for like 20 years. I thought it was the Dan Band in the next two. But we'll talk about that then. Tune in next week. Tune in next week. Yeah, I agree. But I guess it's that I love them because it's John Loveitts, Kathana Jimey. But I don't know anything about them. I don't know anything about their characters. There's no story. There's no reason for like why this is said. Why is he such a shit and came to Las Vegas and wants to go gamble and doesn't care that his kids don't know what you mean. He's basically. I just want to know. John Loveitts from Little Nikki. Pretty much. I know.

It's, you know, oh, that's got to hurt. Honey, kids need you. This is, this is a just another version of Clark Rizwald and family. It's 100%. That is. That's all it is. I'd rather have John Loveitts as Clark Rizwald. I kind of would. Yeah. Like if you replaced Clark Rizwald as like with John Loveitts, like do it him doing Clark Rizwald instead of Chevy Chase, that might have been, I think you would have had some pretty great goals. He's fantastic in this movie. He is so funny. And I think he makes for a great road movie. He makes for a great dad who like, who like kind of gives a shit, but he only cares about like, he gives a shit mostly about what he wants. But pretends like it's about the thing. Correct. Yeah. So you guys said you were Mr. Bean fans. I was in no way shape or form. Did I give two. I would be caught dead. I'm correct. But so when when when when when when Rowan I could send walks on screen like Mr. Bean. Yeah. And it's unbelievable to me how truly weird looking that guy is and how well he can turn that on.

Yeah. He's fucking hilarious. I mean, like he's so funny now looking back on this. I regret not having been a Mr. Bean guy. Oh, check out. Now that I'm watching this. Check out some shit dude. It's like if you like like pink pantheres kind of. Totally. Bullshit dumb dumb fucking dumb comedy. It's Charlie Chaplin with the wall track. Yes. Exactly. He's silent. He's like he's not he's just doing his own shit. It's physical. It's face and even his lines are so like understatedly funny like, have you seen this room? Yeah, we're in it. We're in it. My name is Enrico. You know, you may think it's a girl's name. They're like, no. No. They just gloss over all this stuff. It's he's he's probably my favorite part of this movie. And then you cook doggies. This. Hope I we. Like and then again, like you watch him explaining like some of his stuff in the behind the scenes. He's a very well spoken English man. Of course. Of course. He's just talking very, very like politely about like, yeah.

And you know, it's just it's very funny because he comes back around to do this. It's like sleep. It's like I feel like you're describing your own performance and hamlet. Yeah. When you talk about anything. John's please too at the same time. Yeah, I mean, were they like both nights probably. And they literally got John Cleese wearing like giant teeth dentures or something like that. Is that his real teeth? God, I'm not even going to talk about it. Well, you should. But a score is two to one. I think I think it. I don't think it's real. I don't think it's his real teeth. Yes. As the movie goes on, it's more like like his teeth are just fucking crazy as the movie goes on. It is. It's it's but he's still. I think it just kind of adds to his character of like, of course, this is what like a billionaire would do. Yeah. You know what I mean, just get the veneers or whatever. And he modeled that character after like the real owner of the Venetian or something like that. Isn't the real his same name? It's I think it was same name probably, which is surprising they could do that. I know. It's like same name of like either the actual guy

or another character who the other actual guy was based on whatever it was. Yeah. No, it's just but they definitely it was the same name. And it's such a Donald Sterling. What a billionaire name. Oh, yeah. Like how do you how what the only thing that's more billionaire would be like like Ron Ferd Platinum. Gruthers make the make the McAingden. Gruthers. Who would you got if you guys had a million dollars and you were among very McAulfield. Sorry. Just blatant. Terry Terry Warbucks. Okay, Sean Flok cameras. You invented those dollars. This is my name. I'm a good. I invested in it. Okay, so you got a million dollars. You're in this group. Who are you betting on to win this race? Having seen what you've just seen. Okay. As you you've got this much time to vet your horses.

Yeah, essentially. At this point, if I was looking at this whole crew, the I'm looking for who's the most desperate, I think. Okay. Right. Well, but desperate is different because you could be desperate and poor. You could be desperate and have a lot of money to probably go with whoopee and her realtor. Really? Yeah, she because she's hiring private. Yes, she's got a lot of determination. I wonder it makes me wonder where's their like cut off for the betting. You know, is it just like ongoing? No, they made they made a bet then and there and then all bets are fine. Place your bets on because because rowing Atkinson falls asleep and the guys like I bet a million dollars on him. He's like, sorry, all that's too much. All bets are fine. Imagine seeing Nick throw his fucking key away. I'm like, fuck. I know. God damn it. I think Owen's Owen's a safe bet here too, because he's pretty he's pretty motivated at this point to do something. He's the most athletic. He's, you know, if we get into a running race here, he's going to win the running race.

He might have the most barriers though because he's so recognizable apparently. You know, whether they know that about him or not, but then it's in the same vein. I don't know. I think I might be putting it on. I actually might be putting it on Breck and Meyer Nick. Because it's like he's smart enough and I would have been pissed by the time he threw the key away. I'd be like, well, fuck. You know, I just I just take it out. I just lost all that. Great. And then, but he's the most like kind of put together. It's also kind of bullshit though that you're allowed to be a team. One person gets the coin. And why do why do the brothers get to be a team? If they get to be a team, I'm calling my buddy real quick. I'm calling one of my bachelor bros and he's coming down here and helping. Yeah, my one of my friends who's close to Albuquerque. First time, you know, it's over city. I guess yeah, but that's kind of bullshit. I'm just going to say that. It's true. You're not bad. I have a lot of friends in silver city. Good. I'm calling right now. Call them up. Call them up. We see if we can get there. So. Scene two, the race immediately descends into chaos,

Dwayne and Blaine destroying airport radar station, ranting his family struggle in the car and make a few bad pit stops. Owens dropped off in the desert while Vera and Merrill are lost and meet a squirrel lady. Nick meets Tracy and grabs an ill-fated helicopter ride with her. How in the world? So, especially the John love it stuff. There's a lot of things that maybe go holy shit. When when the girl's trying to go to the bathroom and he goes, get her a jar. And she goes, well, I'm a girl and she's like, oh, get her a jar and a funnel. And a funnel. Why? And they're talking about prairie dog and it's number two. Oh, dude, the girl holding her butt out the window to poop. I can't you. I'll turn up the radio, honey. No, don't worry. Nobody's looking. Go ahead, push away. That's fucking wild. That whole scenario is wild. Oh, yes. But it's funny. Yes. It's because we don't actually have to deal with the repercussions of what would actually happen. The shit streak down the side of your car.

Yeah, the shit and piss just down the side. No toilet paper inside the car. We got problems here. Yeah, it's all funny. There's a lot going on here that we don't have to deal with as an audience. It's probably for the best. They left that like that's where they cut the joke off. So hilarious. Yeah, now move on. Yes. Forget all about it. Thank goodness. The two brothers too, I think are really funny here. He's like, we're the hell's the airport as a plane flies by in the background. Yeah, like an idiot. It's like they're like almost denied a ticket and he's like, I'm not giving up. And neither are you. And neither am I. Oh, fuck. Yeah. Of that shit. Like they're so in tune that he says, he's like, oh, you were in line. Oh my gosh. Okay. Hey, what's that say right back there? And then the lady turns around and the vincious punches it. Lady. Like just was it a lady? Was it a lady? No, it was a guy. He punches Amy smart later when they're running on the street. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so, but like they're just so in tune together and then turns around and everyone's just backing off. I mean, if you're be if you could watch these this whole thing play out,

I'd be like adding money to like where I've put money to make a second bet if you want. Just saying that's what I'm saying. But that's so 2001, like let people like shove themselves around. And I go, fuck that guy. I just punched somebody. I'm going to let him go. Yeah. Nowadays, everybody's got their phones. I like, fuck this guy. Gold car. Everybody gets cops. This guy. This is a punch to him. Cancel him. By the way, is this is this like the last movie ever of without airport security? Very well could be the last movie ever made to not display airport security. Yeah. Like they're at could walk to the gate. You walk to the gate. To buy it. To get it. Wow. That is insane. I remember going to my cousin came up to visit flew here and we walked him to his gate and said, see you later and watch this plane back up and then we just walked out of the airport. Yeah. It's fucking crazy. It's wild. Like I honestly, I truly believe the only reason that we probably still have airport security

is because we can't let all those people go without jobs. I literally think that's it. It's not security. It's not security. Do you know how many how many incidents they've stopped? Four. TSA. You want to take a guess Sean? No. This is factual. Five. Zero. How many they've caught and stopped from ever happening again. It's fun to talk about this before we get on planes. I love it. It's fun. Love it so much. Zero. Thanks A.J. TSA is my favorite part of flying. Do you know how many have happened really though since like an instance though? Twenty. Zero. I don't know. He's kidding. He gets you. He's kidding because he's like guess. Well, guess man. Zero. But no, that's what I'm saying though. It's like it's such a crazy concept. It's so foreign to us nowadays. I don't think I ever got to travel in the era of home alone and rat race. No, no. You know what I mean? It's just it's so crazy. Playing Shreys on Obieals too. Yeah. I mean, like speaking of like pre that and like 2001, 2000 on to like 2010,

Amy Smart here. I have to talk about again, like Butterfly Effect we did. Road Trip is coming up. Anytime she's in a movie, it's it's it's it's honestly like a John candy. She gets the point five bomb. Yep. She just does. I don't fucking great. I don't know if this is like my favorite role she's ever done. But it doesn't matter. Yeah, it's just same with Breck and Meyer. I I love Breck and Meyer. I love Amy Smart because they transport me back to 2001. That is like all that it does for me. I think you're right. And like I love Amy Smart and everything that we've covered especially. Still lover in this. I can tell that she's trying to kind of keep up in this comedy that you know what I mean? With the with all the other amazing comedic talent on this set on this movie. The helicopter scene is a little too over the top. There's a lot of over the top like kind of facial expressions and things like that that they kind of had to like kind of get you know for her like when when when Nick goes over the counter to get

the key again and all that kind of stuff right. And and yes in the helicopter other than that though. Like she's I think she's perfect in this role. It still doesn't matter beyond that. And then like and Breck and Meyer I'm just like what it I mean kind of yes perfect but almost underserved like a role for him to be able to do you know. He's kind of the square of this. He is he's kind of this kind of the straight man if you will. He's like the most relaxed most. I remember him and go when he was like this like gangster kid. He was like that's how I like my record right. Gosh. Yo dog. Yeah. Got a beat her out and so yeah. The again these brother Seth Green and what's his name? Dwayne and Blaine Blaine and Blaine the the air traffic control tower and it being like a foil for the plot as well like now now no one can fly except for Amy smart and Breck and Meyer. But this is just this is just a great comp comedic like action gag and they have several of these.

That's pretty legit too. It looks great and I love the the music behind it's the fucking whatever like swan fuck. Swan fuck swan fuck. I like that. Swan fuck by like bait. Bait. No. By bomb another animal another animal premise that they just fell flat. The pond was party and the pond was bumping. Yeah it's just great and I love I love like the screams yeah from guy are like a little over the top for me but it does add to like the ridiculous and like God this is dumb but why am I watching this. And as this movie goes on it just keeps the pedals down the whole movie and it just keeps going so you know what you're in for you. This movie called rat race like we know what's going to happen but they they really gloss over the fact that all these guys are going to be in a lot of trouble when this movie's over. Yeah. I mean we're destroying federal airport property and radars and grounding planes that are flying from around the world. We're stealing multiple vehicles all groups of people.

Her flying stunt alone she said she committed like 171 like FAA violations. Isn't there any cops trying to find these guys. John Cleese has like he has like a overhead kind of fund put together for like taking care of these things perhaps. He's got some pole. Yeah. But now that they when they get fucked over at the end he's just gonna go get them. You know like this is not a happy ending after this movie's over. Right. I'd like to at least point that out. I hope your bail is not more than two million because I think it's good. Yeah. No shit. Yeah. Yeah. Like so and that's the thing though I have to say it's every single time we're kind of jumping around like I keep on I keep on thinking. Oh this is the like Seth Green in Vince Flute. These guys are just stealing they're gonna run away with this movie. They're stealing this movie like every scene is just like stealing this movie. And then you get to John Levit. You're like god damn it John. You know that's they they did you know anything about Klaus Barbie?

Did you guys ever know anything about Klaus? No but I love that fucking cut. The Barbie Museum cut Klaus Barbie. A bunch of Nazi fucks. Those two dudes though are so great. They are funny. Apparently they only were going to have one of those guys be the tour guide but they loved both of them together so much. Though they're serious stairs. And the way they like they've rehearsed their speech and they're going to back up. What was this like a real fucking place or something? I think it's a real place. I would kind of hope it's not but that's a real person. Klaus Barbie is a real like famous Nazi soldier from back in the day. Oh, we have a couple number one hits or something. Klaus Barbie. Yeah. Famous. Come on Barbie let's go party. Okay. Got you. Mine a Bobby good. Remember the Vanga boys? I think he was the DJ. Okay. All right that checks out. Lou Vega. Lambo number five. Yeah. He's German.

He believed that. Wow. Yeah it's actually this true actually. A lot of number one hits. Yeah. The movie is just very surprising. You have Klaus Barbie conversations. Then you switch to Kathy Bates in no role whatsoever. Yay. Just no fucking role. Here she is. We'll never see her again. Fucking love Kathy Bates. Can you believe it? Too much. Hey, do not gloss over some of this dialogue of John Love. It's just like you're leaving. It's like. No. Yes. Well, you know, we actually we have a cross burning at four. And it's just like. I think it's okay to just. I put myself in that position of like, what if we accidentally went there? Yeah. It can be very easy to talk your way out of that. You don't have to be as obnoxious. You can be like, hey, we're very sorry. We, this is great. In fact, I'd like to come back with the wife when it's just us. But the kids like, we thought this was. We didn't, we didn't read it. We thought this was real Barbie. I got two girls here. Yeah. They don't, they don't know anything about this. So we're going, we'll come back later.

I was looking for like the, the nice like pink bee everywhere, but we just see that this was. My kids got shit all up and down her legs because she prairie dogged it out the window. Yeah, we got to. You understand. We, you've done it. We got to get to a hotel. Yeah, I mean, you guys look like a couple of prairie doggers. I'm sure these guys are nice. They'd let you go. It's not like you're being held hostage here. Yeah. I mean, they've got the, the ball necklace is on and all that kind of shit. Of course, they'll just let you go and still hit. There's car. I do hate the really tall one in the background. Yeah, that's chin down. Look. Oh, yeah. Don't like that guy at all. Yeah, like there's a, there's a point where like method goes too far. I think he's really really into this. And I don't think he's acting. Yeah. I think they did find a real one. They found it. It's, it looked like a, it looked like fucking Mark from home improvement when he went through his goth face. Oh, yeah. It's just so shitty. I hate that guy. Oh, God. Not Mark that the guy in the background. Yeah, yeah, totally. But no, like you say, Kathy Bates, right? Like what, what an, what an insane place to put

in an Emmy winner or, you know, like an Oscar winner. Like, oh, we're just going to give her this small squirrel killer bit. And we're going to come back to it, right? Yeah. No, no, no, no. We had her for two hours. No, that's all we got. This, this might as well be John Candy and Home Alone one. Like that, like she did a favor for a Zucker or something like that, right? There's no way that this was like, oh, yeah, I'll do that. I mean, it had to be something. Come on. And like, and you know, that's the other thing though, is everybody on a part of this movie. At one point, I was, I was actually really nervous to start, like some of my research on it. Because I was like, this movie looks like they had so much fun directing it. Then I see it's Zucker. And then I, and then I see the behind the scenes. And he literally goes on record. I'm like, he's going to whoever direct this. I'm going to find out that they hated doing this. No, he loved directing this movie. We should. Everybody else, like who is a part of this? John Cleese is said, this was the funniest script I've read in decades.

And like every actor and actress who came along and was to be a part of this said it was the most fun and the most it like the funniest stuff that they have had read in a long time. And that's like the most refreshing part to hear about it. And you can really tell it some point. You can. You know, that people are having fun and it's a lot of fun to direct this movie and these people. Yeah. Yeah. Kathy Bates being unfocking real in this psycho squirrel. See you later. Well, yeah. Do you know how to get the highway not? Well, yeah, I'm not retarded. Like you. Kathy Bates can say we can also say it. In her memor- memor- memoriam, God forbid. The Oscars is going to be like her role in misery and then that line. Yeah, it's going to be- it's going to be that fried green tomatoes and this line. Who could forget that parents in rat race in 2001? Yeah, I'm not retarded. Don't forget she's squirrel food. Kathy Bates was not retarded.

Never forget. Not yet. They do a lot of- a lot of- they just don't utilize enough. That's my one complaint about this. You got Kathy Bates. Give me- come back to her. Give me something else. You've got Dean Kane in this movie. Dean Kane. That is not even recognizable as Dean Kane until the very end when he pops up into the window. Thank you. They wouldn't even show his face for three minutes. I didn't even know it was Dean- I never knew it was Dean Kane. Previously ever watching this movie and all the TBS watches I did, then it took me till my second watch. Is that Dean Kane? Dean Kane and you know why? Because I saw his name pop up in the credits. Dean Kane. I'm like, Dean Kane. Superman? Like what? I would have been pissed if I were him and his agent. He might as well have not even been in this movie. No. I mean it's pretty wild how like undersold he was. You know? It's- I feel like Dean Kane is like the- is TBS.

He is TBS. He knows funny. He does know funny. Wasn't he Ripley's believe it or not as well? Ripley's believe it or not? Yeah. So like he was a part of my life for a long, long time as a kid. Like it's like Lois and Clark. Lois and Clark. I mean I watched that show because I had I was I had such a huge crush on whoever played Lois. A Dean Kane? A Dean Kane. Yeah. Yeah. Um, fucking like Dean- Like Dean Kundy. I need to know now. Terry Hatcher. Terry Hatcher. Terry Hatcher played Lois. Fuck I wanted to see them fuck when I was five years old. Yeah. But then like Ripley's believe it or not I watched all the fucking time and then like yeah just seeing him in this movie. What the fuck? It was it was just like a throwaway. It's a complete throwaway thing. But I think he's just contracted from TBS. Well in the future this movie is going to be on TBS. You have to make it. Yeah. Oh you got it. Yeah. Hey, we have we already have syndication already scheduled with TBS. It's already lined up. Ripley's believe it or not and he was in Lois. We need we need one of your power hitters

from the TBS lineup. If you wouldn't mind having to come on down. No problem. I'll be there. All right. Who you sent? Take my shirt off. Who you sending? Who you sending? Dean Kane. Dean Kane. Oh great. Sounds good. Can we get Terry Hatcher? No. No, no, absolutely not. Fuck. All right. She's too precious for this world. Yeah. We can give you a Kathy Bates. She knows she knows Jerry. What about Ali McBeel? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Smash mouth. Oh, we can do that. You can get smash mouth. Yeah. Oh my god. I thought you would never ask. Oh my god. We got a hit on our heads. Oh yeah, baby. Turn on the tracks. Get to be worth billions. Turn on the real to real. We're getting this all on record. We got to buy hot men doing another original song. They wrote one. And we're just going to pay smash mouth more than they ever need. Good for them, man. We got smash mouth. You mean we got a finale. We got to smash it. Fuck, dude. Go ahead.

Lucy impersonators. Blaine and Dwayne have an load of Lucy impersonators. What do you call a load of Lucy impersonators? Like a leader, like a gaggle? Yeah. It's a gobble of Lucy's. Blaine and Dwayne have an encounter with a locksmith that ends badly. Did you guys ever know who Gloria Aldrin was? Gloria Aldrin's the red-coated lady that's like, I'm an attorney. We're going to sue this place. She pops up twice. Oh yeah, yeah. Like, uh, was she, did she have like the commercial, when she liked the one, the first one who had commercials. I don't know because I've never seen her I've never heard of her. But apparently she was such a big deal that her appearance in this movie was like, wow, I have no idea. It's such a long amount. When the lady falls down the steps at the beginning, and there's a lady goes, she pops out and she's like, we're going to sue them for millions. I'm a lawyer. I'm a lawyer. We're going to sue her. She does it again when Mr. Bean gets hit by the car. Yeah, by Wayne Knight.

And apparently they thought that she was such a pop culture reference icon that it was such an important thing to put her in this movie. And I had never heard of it. Wow. So she's playing herself in this movie. It's like some Wayne's brothers, like, uh, scary movie type shit. I know. Did you, why did you put that person in here? It's not funny. You have her in there. Then I have expected fucking miscleo to show up at some point. If that's what you're going to do. Honestly, I rather like that kind of shit, like televangelis apparent, like that, that kind of shit. Instead of like fucking Mr. Beast and bull fucking dumb ass shit. Yeah. And fucking movies anymore. Dude. Hey, we got Mr. Beast. And he shows up. He's just smiles and just like it's like a Simpsons cameo in real life. Dude, he showed up on survivor. I'm like, fuck this. Yeah. And now dude, fuck this guy. God damn it. I hate him. Not even his money. All right. He's poor. And it's like go to movies. Stop watching Mr. Beast for fuck's sake. But he's on YouTube.

No, so I do not want to gloss over. I don't want to gloss over the fact that we have Dave Thomas in this movie. Thank you. And I am a firm, firm believer that this is just the overlord from coneheads who came down to impersonate a human being. Absolutely. That is it. Because there is that moment when he's when he's taste testing the chocolate and he's like, go get that. And you're just like that's him. That's the dude who fucking choose condoms. Dude, you're so right. Every time that cut back to these billionaires and like doing their bets, it's such a fucking funny gag. Yeah. Because you're like, why are we here? Why is it silent? You know, especially when he gets the lady of the night. Yeah, yeah. It's like, why are we cutting back to this guy? What's the reason for this? And then it's just it's another bet. It really kind of takes me by surprise every single time. Like, what are they going to be doing now? They cut back and like, there's like,

maids hanging from the fucking curtain. They bet on the, if he could guess the flavor of the chocolate, they bet on the hooker, the pricing of the hooker. They bet on maid hanging from the bar. Who's going to last the long? They bet on who's going to puke first on a plane. And there was a deleted scene that featured them all playing monopoly, but with real money. Oh, yeah, that's right. Like, they were getting like crazy into it, playing monopoly with real dollars. How do you cut that? How do you cut that? How that's 30 to 45 seconds that they deleted for the sake of guy. Probably some sort of time. Guy lands on a on boardwalk with a hotel. It's three to two to one. Okay. No three to one to one. I'm doing okay. I'm doing okay. But like, them, how do you cut that, though, man? That is I would, I would, I would have paid money to see that. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Fuck them thrown down real dollars and getting hyped on, on monopoly, like they're playing with real shit. Their board would consist of a, like a real dog,

an actual big shoe, the big fucking iron from the maid. You know what I mean? They're actually waging real hotel chains. Like, yes. Yeah, they just have like a, like a digital map of Las Vegas in front of them. They're playing in Las Vegas. Somebody gets getting cuffed and carted off to jail. Come on. You're right, Sean. Those are, those are really great gags. Even the, I said that. That's, he brought it up. The, I should never think that this is funny. I should, in a million years, if you gave me any other movie with something like this in it, I'd be like, that's so stupid. Them making the turn from the directions that Squirrel Lady gave them and the you should have bought a squirrel, ramps, there's 30 other cars down there. That's so fucking stupid. Yeah. But so awesome. Yeah. I think it's amazing. I laughed audibly out loud at this part. It's their character from misery. It's still. There's a theory there. Once we get to misery, I'll come up with it. But yeah, I think I really do think that like this is where

yes, you could have had a, like another callback with, with Kathy Bates. Could have. But this is the callback to Kathy Bates. And it's could she at least been on a, on the cliff with squirrels on her going? She could have. But what she doing there when she's not like, like why is she there instead of trying to sell more squirrels? She could have sold a squirrel to the billionaires in their limo or something like that. Yes. That would have been, or the, and they would have denied her for some odd reason. And then, and then, and then, ambiguously, they drive off. But you know what? Can I, can I say this? Because like, with a movie, like with just like random cameos, like, I guess, Kathy Bates here. And like, who's like maybe another cameo on this main cave? Dean Kane. Yeah, kind of that shit. But a movie like happy Gilmore too was just like, yeah, it's funny because it's Post Malone. Yeah. Where it's not funny because it's fucking dumb ass Post Malone. This is funny because Kathy Bates is playing a fucking character. Yeah. And you're like, oh, it's Kathy Bates. But then you get into her like, it doesn't have to be, like miming the squirrels talking, you know?

It's, it's really, really dumb. But it's, but it's not for the sake of it being just Kathy Bates. You know what I'm saying? It didn't have to be her. It could have been any actress. And it would have been funny. Yeah, but instead it's Kathy Bates where like, yes, recognize even better. But it's her playing a character. It's Dean Kane playing kind of like a throwaway, but he playing it well, not just playing themselves, like fucking Post Malone or M&M. Yeah, fucking movie. Oh, hey, we got the club because it's them. Exactly. Look at it. Yeah. He's going to do an Instagram. That's the whole reason they're here. Yeah. Yeah, they're all going to put it on their Instagram. And then it's just honestly, it's kind of, it's somehow the darkest best, the best kind of dark humor I can think of. That she's a serial killer. Oh, yeah, she's killed multiple families. And her calling card is a bag of nuts or squirrel food because people don't buy squirrels. Yes. Any more. That's her play on the world. That's why she's doing her killing. Honestly, more more reason than a lot of people killing people today. True.

So, you get into the Lucy, the Lucy impersonators. I'd like to talk about these. This is my worst nightmare. This is, um, you know what? I should just go ahead and say it again. No, this is, this is going to steal everything. Every single time we just, just bounce around like, oh, this is going to, this is the winner of the, the fucking movie. Really? Then you get to fucking Lucy. This is a fucking winner. You're the, you're the best thing. You're the best thing. This is the fucking funniest thing I've ever seen. Okay. I, I dislike it because, of course you do. I, I dislike it because Molly is a very, four to one, four to one to one. Fuck yeah, dude. Molly is a, Molly is a very big, I love Lucy fan. And I do enjoy the show, but it's because one of them is a guy, Mike. No, the kids are drummer. Their son plays drums. Okay. Sorry. I think Ricky does too, maybe. Man, man, man, man, man, man, man, man, man, man. That's one of the things I hate about it is there's a fake, there's like an alternate version theme song like they would, they couldn't get, I love Lucy theme song. Of course not. Celestial ball, man, so it's fucking, it's dumb that it's not the real song.

So don't even fucking play it. And, uh, and Lucy, that many people being Lucy just annoys the fuck out of me. Exactly. Welcome to the bit, Mike. That's what I'm saying. I'm talking about it in the sense of like that would be a nightmare. But also, this is to me, this is halfway through the movie. And this is where the movie turns for me at this point. This is when it starts to get outrageous to be outrageous. I honestly, it's less the Lucy's in that whole bit as, as a bit, and more Cuba good and junior for me. I think, like, I really like him just like, he's just a clown in this movie. Which I do appreciate, especially when he gets dropped off by the Dallas fan. And like the desert, he's like, oh, out in the sand. Oh, there's, it's a little too long on that. You know, I'm just like, okay. But it's, it's not like making me hate the movie. The movie really kind of knows what it's doing. Yeah. By just making, but like everyone's just having a great time. Like you said, they seem like everyone's had a fucking blast making this movie.

And I enjoy that. But his bits, when we return to him are like probably the lesser. And it's not really because of him. It's just, it's just because it's, that's the one note, is that it's he's annoyed by Lucy's. Yeah. You know, I, that's the thing though. Like this, this idea of like, oh, he sees a bus, right? And he's like, I have an idea that, like, I'm saved, first of all, because I see civilization in the desert anymore, right? And then he comes back around and he comes up with a bit. And we think this is the bit. We think, oh, he's going to figure out a way to get the clothes off the bus driver. And that's pretty funny. And then he could just pretend to be the bus driver and stuff. And then he gets on and it's the worst fucking nightmare of any like normal person, a bus full of fucking Lucille ball impersonators. And you're like, I, oh my god, I wouldn't be able to sit on this. Bus. What, what would you be your bus full of nightmare? What would be the like impersonator?

Ooh, that's tough. Probably Lucille ball. I mean, that's a, that's a top pick at this point. And it's, and it's, it's perfect because it's like a, it's like a bunch of fucking chickens running around when the bus is on the side of the road. It's just like getting pissed and just like, or getting upset and like, blowing things out of proportion. I'm wrecking it. Oh my god. And then the bus falls over and all of them on cue just go, oh, and you're just like, that is, it's fucking gold. That's gold, man. What if, what if it was a AJ, a bunch of people doing AJ's denier own impression just going, just a good comedy of that. Well, my, my name would be like a bunch of get like acoustic guitar players. I agree with you. But like the, the, the predisposition of getting on the bus is like, we're all just going to go to like Las Vegas party. But then there's guitars and there's like maracas on the bus. And people are like, they get a little too drunk.

We're all musicians, right? Let's, let's hang out and play some songs. No. No, no, no. I don't do this. We're going to listen to Smash Malthy's higher way there. That sounds great. Yeah. I have an idea. Actually, this is, I'm just, I'm literally just ripping it off of both of you guys. Together, I think at this point, but it's a bunch of people dressed as different versions of John Belushi. Okay. Would it be awesome if it was John Belushi? Yeah. Yeah, be fucking awesome. But this is people pretending to be John Belushi and being obnoxious. My, my first thought was going to be any, any like Adam Sandler character post when he fell off. Okay. Post who be Halloween. Okay. Thanks, man. Fuck yeah. Well, that movie. It's coming up. We're getting close. Oh, but what I meant by the halfway point is, it's like this bit, what, the bit wasn't as funny to me, the Lucy things. And then you've got the Newman bit with the heart. Yeah. That wasn't funny to me. This is fucking weird.

The balloon, the whole balloon thing and the cow. I was just like, oh, I love this. Another like great kind of like set piece bit to me. I like, I just love how this is filmed. Yeah. It looks mostly all practical. It feels like this is where, this is where it starts to turn a little bit more. There's some guys turning the dial up as the movie goes. It's silly. It's turning. Keep turning it. Go more, more. And then just you feel it. If you're really looking at it and you're not sitting back and just going, this is fun. I feel it just continued to ratchet up at this point. I think, I think I heard it somewhere or whatever that, you know, Zucker, like the Zuckers, will take a lot of comedy reference and they take a lot of love and pride in like old cartoons, loony tunes, wily coyote, shit like that, right? You can really feel it here. And I think if you really dove deep enough, you could probably assign like each of these characters

their own like, loony tunes character of some kind. Probably a thousand. Somebody's probably like a Bugs Bunny. Somebody's a Daffy Duck. Somebody's a Wily Coyote. Somebody's a Tasmanian devil, a Yosemite Sam. Foghorn long. Like that's somebody you could assign each one of them, right? And I think that that's, I think that there's something there to be said about it. It's like, and again, like I already said, pinky in the brain for the brothers and the whole cow thing with the air balloon, like how obnoxious can we get? And that's what they're doing. Like you said, turn up that dial. That obnoxious dial. Yeah. And it's fun, but it does, yes, upon my third watch, I'm like, well, get back to something that's kind of like what I like about the movies that it does kind of remind you just to be fucking dumb and silly. Yeah. And I really like other movies like, no, we are that. It's like, no, this isn't like a higher brow joke if you think it is.

It's really not like a smart comedy. It's like, this is fucking stupid and we know it. But I love being silly and stupid. I love that shit. Yeah. We do the show. That's what it's been an hour and 10 minutes of silly and stupid. Talking about fucking rat race. What do you want? So scene four, after losing their minivan ranny and his family steel Hitler's former staff car and accidentally drive it into a gathering of World War II veterans, Vera and Merrill steal a rocket car and then are picked up by a special needs bus. And Rico escapes from the career while Blaine and Dwayne escape certain death by monster truck only to steal one and be back on their way. Can I please say something real fast that like, yes, the Lucy's on the bus are fucking annoying. But I think the most annoying thing would be is someone singing respect to Chang, Chang, Chang, dude. How fucking brilliant it's it's so good. It's funny. That is that you're right. That's honestly, I think that's one of the best jokes.

I don't keep saying it man. I'm like, no, that is the best joke. PCT. I'm like, what? Chang, Chang, Chang. You got Wayne Knight who's just kind of dealing with it because he just got out of a lawsuit. But he's like, eventually he's just like, this guy doesn't even know what's going on. He's just click. Yeah. And like, like you say, the whole heart bit could kind of take it or leave it. But they needed something. Do they? Between these two, they needed something. I'm not saying it had to be this, but they needed something. Because they keep ratcheting it up because then this whole scene for like the dog with the heart and then they still got the heart and then he runs and jumps on a speeding bullet train. We don't fucking have bullet trains. The them stealing the jet car. The bullet going next to him in the jet car. Wily Coyote man. But I'm just saying like, I don't like that though. That's like the road runner shit. That's that's that's been in a cartoon before.

But why does it have to be in this movie? Because it's funny. You laughed when you when you saw them go, there's a bullet. Were you like, uh, no, I didn't. I didn't laugh when they I didn't laugh when they saw when they saw the bullet and said, oh, bullet. I laughed when they looked out the window and saw a bullet and they're like, oh, fuck. There's a fucking bullet. That's fucking home. No, they don't like they don't acknowledge it like that. Yeah, they don't acknowledge it as like that's the joke. It just happens, you know, it's it's very it's not subtle, but it's it's not calling attention to us. Like now now this is the reason why it's funny. The reason it's funny is they're going so fast is there's a they're catching up with a with a bullet, you know, and the bullet caught up to them, which makes no sense logistically, but that's okay. The, uh, you know, space time continues. I'm just like, just like, they're 88 miles an hour. I just wonder how many times we can visit the goonies out.

Speak. Pretty cool. Speaking speaking about Mark one, I think that sounds the sound. They would have to start at the same time to be side by side. I don't know if you guys know this, but I studied Indians in college. They're making make Americans. I'm going to take. You know, maybe from an arrow they caught up to. They aren't like that. I don't know. Maybe I'd like that if it would have gone through you with them. He's having a lot of things happen. I guess it's that we're just never going to get that in a movie. Are we? We're scat debates. Why can't Kathy Bates be here anymore? This is it. I'm just trying to speak my mind. You guys are fucking getting up on me to defend rat race. Jesus fucking Christ. Well, there's something to defend here, Michael. You're attacking it. Oh my god, he jumped on a train. That couldn't happen. The prosthetic work of they're like them, like, of vibrating so much. Their jaws are like going like that.

It always freaked me out, but I like. I would like to give that a confusing for most disturbing shot. Because it's fucking terrifying. I didn't like it at all. It's her daughter's eyes. I just like rolled back. So, okay, well, I am going to give you some honest to God, like actual reasoning for the bullet catching up and stuff. Okay, what? Go ahead. No, I was going to be. I see there's a thing about the bullet. If you really think about it, no. So the reason that the bullet catching up to them, and they're in the speeding car, the land speed car, and everything, then you have the monster truck stuff. I think even kind of has a payoff. But we're starting to see all their paths converge. And I think the bullet is a great representation of that. That came from the gun, the mechanic.

That Nick and Amy Smart, that's right, ran into and got. So you're saying they're all getting closer together. So they're all coming together again. And that's a really good representation without smashing them into the same scene. It's a really good point. We all, like, we do, when we do return to like one set of characters or one character, doing the same race, they're all pretty like in the middle of the movie. They're all very separate. They're all kind of like on their own ways. But we do get a very Jerry Zucker does give us a clear picture of like, how close they are getting by not showing us like what John Cleese and all his fuckers are seeing. Too much. We see that maybe once or twice, you know. The geography and the direction of the movie makes us know that they're almost there. Because of those things. Yeah. It's a very good point. Yeah. They're getting there. They're getting closer. They're all within 30 miles or so of Silver City. Like it's starting to come to a culmination. And I think if we, if we didn't have something like that, then it would be, it would be really hard to be like,

oh, and then there they all are. You know what I mean? Yeah. Oh, they made it. They're kind of working their way up to it. But to your point, there are some excuses. Like Rowan Aguetson just jumping on a speeding train. Yeah. It's really, really dumb. And like it's just like, okay. But it's also like, what movie are you watching, man? I mean, to me, I understand I'm watching, but there's always sort of a line of like, some of this is believable. I get it. And now you're crossing it. I get it. You're crossing the like, well, that could happen, line to like, I mean, John Cleese before the race even starts. He's like, there are no rules. The only rule? There are no rules. Yeah. I have to talk about the probably one of the funniest like, dumb gags in this movie is the, they're in the Hitler car. Brother. And they find out the paraphernalia like the lipstick. And he's like, what is this cigarette letter? I didn't have that back then. First of all, he's like, I still make cars like this anymore.

You know, I mean, this is my hogging in the hogging in here. You just don't see that. You don't. You don't. The, the fucking lighter goes in his mouth. And the lipsticks on the steering wheel, he gets hit by the, or like the steering wheel. He's got the Hitler stash. And he gets out at the World War two of it and is like, oh, it's like, holy shit. Making signs like I got back here. Yeah, like he's unaware. He's, he's unaware of like the fact that like the lipstick is on him that he's, he gave himself a Hitler. And then like, and then he he burned his tongue. And, and like he, it's like, this is actually one of the bits that I used to think was hilarious. Oh, no. And not, not that I think like, well, I think it's in poor taste now. No, not at all. It's the fact that I think that now I'm just like, man, everything really had to come to a head for this to like kind of pay off the way that it did this joke. And the guy I'm done talking about the speeding bullet and how stupid that was.

There was reasoning behind it. What's the reasoning about? Right now Jerry's uncle's like, yeah, that was the reason for the bullet. Yeah, to show their proximity. Totally, totally. Yeah, I'm gonna take that. I'll take my Oscar that I didn't get for ghost. Yeah, yep, yep. Thank you. Now, but like, like, there's, there's a lot of culmination to this. But wasn't there, wasn't there again though? He's they got to this thing and the old vet shoots a gun at him. Isn't there a reason like that they're there and then they see somebody else? Isn't there something else close by? Well, the bikers, the biker gang like, kind of, do I, do I need to blame see their van and break their van earlier? Which is why they got in the Nazi car. Okay. Oh, okay. Yes. Oh, I didn't notice that. That's right that it was them that did that. See, and yeah, it's just funny. I think again, I just think that going back to kind of what you're saying, Mike, like, there's so many, there's so many stories.

I mean, shit, when we talked about Detroit Rock City and they had to do the split up and it was four ways, right? We have six different storylines going on here. And it's a, it's a tighter and better telling than somehow than the four storylines of each of those characters in Detroit Rock City. And honestly, I think it's because, although yes, perfect example, it was Dwayne and Blaine that that took, took part or messed up their van. But we never saw, and we never got like full hit of that, right? They never interrupt each other's timelines fully. That's true. Until it becomes time that it's the final, the final 100 meters. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. And there's a couple more things here too, like, you know, Owens running away from the Lucy's, but then it's just in a ditch. Yeah, it's, it's, there's convenient ways. They're like, this is going to be a two-hour movie. We got to wrap this up. Yeah. The family is drugged. His entire family is drugged when the SS shows up.

The Nazi crew does. Somehow then they're in a truck. Yeah, like he puts them all in there. He'd put them all in there. He'd put them all in there. He'd put them all in there. Yeah. Without anyone seeing it, there's convenient things. But you're right. I mean, this is just, this is the movie we're watching. We, we don't care. We need to get them to the end. Who's going to win this race? Right. The monster truck thing. The monster truck was on a 10 foot, it was on a 10 foot ramp. And then it went 150 feet in the air. Yeah. The shut, the slow-mo shot though is fucking great. It's just, it is. I'm trying to get out of the car. And you know, if they had to cut the monopoly, then playing real monopoly with real money for this, then yes, it's worth it because that scene alone is like them scrambling to get out. And they're in a, they're in a convertible, like with the top down and everything. And they're trying to like open the door. And it's just like, just climb over. You fucks. Climb over. Very stupid. You know, and you're just like that kind of shit. We need time for Colleen Camp too.

We had to get her in there for a second. What? Colleen Camp? Colleen Camp. Where is she yet? Oh. Yeah, she's, she's the rainbow house nurse. Colleen Camp. Fuck, you're right. She's hanging out there. We came here on a rocket car. That's how you're getting all about it on the bus. So everyone's favorite macaroni night. All right. And by the way, I mean, then, and the reason they, the other guys ended up in the freaking monster truck thing. I think it's a valid reason, guys. I mean, get it. It's right. They're just going to flash out. Somebody's going to flash it with all that goodness going on. Yeah. You're like, hey, a lot of chains in there. I thought, James, you know, a lot of Rihanna going on. And, you know, hey, we can all appreciate that. I'd steal a monster truck after seeing that too. Yeah. So for sure. Van Duel is now available everywhere in the US. Final scene they all arrive at the same time. Fight over the money. The stolen money ultimately gets carried away by a runaway balloon and lands at a nearby smashmouth charity concert where everyone assumes the racers are donating it. They decide to let it go to charity and pull a fast one on Sinclair and his wealthy friends. More Mr. Bean's faces to this kid.

I just don't quite understand the physical comedy of that. It's so like how does he look like that? How does he do that? The man is crazy funny with his physical comedy. Also I'd be terribly frightened if the man was doing that to my kid. I mean it's disturbing. The kid doesn't get it. And how are you guys sleeping while your baby is just sitting in a chair there on a train? True. With strangers. Yeah. Yeah. That doesn't make any sense. No, it doesn't make sense. What do you think of his passing out spells that happens twice in this movie? It's just kind of like technically it has to be there because if not then he would have just won. Right? They could have had him run in at the same time they were running in. They could have. But they needed to build it up somehow. They had to be like here's the winner. This guy has clearly won. Yeah.

Wait. Is it over? Is it done? No, he's sleeping. He hasn't opened lock or yet. It's kind of funny. Yeah. It's a bit. Again, I think that's where you really have to kind of applaud this movie. For all the silliness that comes out of it, you have to really respect this might be the ultimate commit to the bit and they've done it in six different storylines. You know, like committing to the bit that yeah, he has he passes out. Like he's not for no reason. He probably doesn't like it. Because he didn't once way back earlier in the movie. Right. There it is again. Here we go again. Speaking of things you can't forget about the cow. The cow and the blue are still flying around. Wait a second. Wait a minute. It's back. I still think it's a little fun. I still think it's of course it's fun. Fun silliness. Just like call back. But like it's not a close up of issues in the background. And the guys like help me. But then that's what ends up the balloon ends up getting the money somehow that then floats it to the smash mouth concert, right?

Yeah, who is the guy? It's the locksmith. The locksmith? Yeah. He fulfilled the trope of two dumbasses saying a full plan out loud. While someone's going. And we can't tell anybody about this. I'm hearing it. Yeah, that's the nice trope of that going off. Yeah. And like, and then also the hooker with Dave Thomas too. It was another combination of like, what do you call it? Not McGuffin, but like, you know, slide a hand or something like that. Yeah, like just one more interruption I guess. One more little roadblock at the very end here. Just to add that that that stress, right? Just like, like I say, I think the the fact that Roan acted since the first one there, it is. It's a perfect example of like, wow, he did it. I mean, he's got his hand out. Did I we? He went all the way to the point. He has his hand on the key in the fucking hole. And he's even reading him the the success,

like the winners, whatever. Yeah. And now he's asleep. It's fucking perfect. This is perfect. Like, we just get a little bit more. Also, we can get smash mouth. Here we go. I mean, at the time though, tell me tell me that that was not the most perfect casting. Of who's hot right now? If you're watching this movie and you're like, man, the only thing that could like really send this over is just like a great like concert performance of like, I don't know, like, Hey, do you guys like Shrek? Yeah, we love it. Well, we got smash mouth. What? The flesh. Yeah. We got smash mouth. Oh, yeah. He's pretty great though. Like he does he does well in this. I hate him. I fucking despise him. My favorite part of the movie was smash mouth and his performance. Well, that you're a fucking idiot. This fight. No, I think this is just the most dated portion of this movie. Obviously, but like, I

it's it's his like you're doing to nearly everyone's everyone's like saying their bit like Breckenmire is like, yeah, we just met today and like we're all going to put the money in charity. That's not the night. And exactly his like, they just met today. Wow. Holy shit. Holy shit. It's his like, it's his like he goes into like, you know that new sound you've been looking for? Well, listen to this. It's like he's putting on like almost like a black voice, like soul singer and I have to imagine that's how he like ran his shows. But also every time someone has a microphone and is like saying something, he's like, give me back to Mike. Yeah, they become he's clamoring to it just to just to do smash mouth. Fucking jargon. Yeah, yeah, he was jargon. Everyone gets the power of smash mouth once they borrow his microphone. He can't give too much of that away. It's true. Yeah, I guess. But like at this point, at this point, it does make me question. Like I feel like I'm still in the sense of like,

Seth Greens position here. No, I've got all this fucking money. Do you know what I could solve? Like actually solve for myself and my family with the amount of money I just have in my arms right now? Pretty tough to give that up after what you just went through. And like I get it. We're at some sort of a charity event. Like if you looked at the numbers, like they were on that before they gave the two million. $1,000. It was like, yeah, like you have many people are out there. Like if all the people in that route, they can't do Venmo back then. If all of them dropped $10 into a fucking bucket or whatever, they'd have a million dollars probably. But God forbid, right? We've only raised nine grand. I'll take the numbers two million in nine grand. I'd be like, no, I could do way more than this. Some fucking tax right off for whatever this corporation that paid smash mouth to be here. And they put the fear of God into you too because the like old guy and the old woman come out

to the kids with the kids. The kids, the kids, it says something in Spanish. And she and the woman is just like, she said you're like the 12 disciples. It's like that's not what she said is it lady. What she really said was you know that 80% of this is going to go to our administrative fees to run this chair. She was the right, the punchable face for me. Like Susan, Susan be coming. Susan be coming. Like what did they say? Fucking 22% of what was donated actually like went to research or something like that? Like this is ridiculous. Exactly. It's a fucking tax right off and you're paying for people's fucking salaries. That's why they're non-profit. They make sure at the end they don't make a fucking pro. It's the only thing that they fucking do. Okay. But yes, then they give a little bit to the fucking charity. I'm not saying all fucking. I'm not saying. I'm not saying. Yeah. Yeah. 10% of this episode is probably going to get a number. Anyways, I just. That's on our apology for this episode. Right. Yeah. We will be donating money to research for.

Yeah, Afghans for Afghannis. That's where we're going to do. Did you guys ever see it's a mad mad mad mad world? Yeah. 350 G's is what they're going for back then. I don't know if he did it on purpose, but somebody did the inflation adjustment from when that movie took place to net to 2001 and that would be the inflation. Oh, wow. 350,000 to 2 million. Okay. It has to be appropriate. And you would think so. Which is pretty great because 350 G's doesn't sound like that much, but back then the only shit. That's why they were going nuts for that. 2 million in 2001 to now that we bought like probably like 6 million. So like, I would have considered holding on to that too. If that they confronted me with all them children around and everything like that, it's hard to say what you would do in the moment, but I would probably be like, all right, well, here's one stack for you. And then when I get done doing what I need to do, I'll come back. I'll come back and give you the rest. I'll volunteer next year at this event. Yes, but I'm also a non-profit.

And at the end of the year, I need to make sure I don't have any. I've not been making profit in my entire life. I'm going to try to do that with this money. Correct. That's right. And you know, one time someone told me they were like, well, some body wants to me. The world was going to rally. I ain't a job is dealing now. Go crowdsurf. The crowdsurf thing is it goes on so long. At this point, you're just like, why can go now, right? I kind of stood up and then got the remote. I should watch this. This is probably what else can I know. It's just kind of boring crowdsurfing. Okay. Yeah, the best part was Amy Smart. Like not doing the right part of the song. She was singing the song just not the right part of it. But like then the crane comes up. She was everyone else. I would do prop. Prop? Yeah. Ooh, here's a prop. It's true. I wanted a little key chains. They look nice. Got track rental. Yeah, the key doesn't have to be like on it. It's the chain.

But just like the key the little key chain thing, because then I'll never lose my keys. That's true. I want one of the jackets. I was going to say the jackets, but I'm like, you know, that's the most expensive bullshit jacket. I like how the drummer's like, let's get these guys some jackets. Yeah, don't leave me. That's the thing we do here. That's the grand prize for top sponsor. Like what? A jacket? I would take that the fat kids necklace and then hold it in front of them go, no. No. You don't want to. I'm trying to help you out. Do not wear this. You don't want Hitler's harmonic? No. Oh, dude, I thought you'd. Crazy. Would have pinned you for Hitler's harmonic. We got two harmonicas in my house right now. Both girls walk around going. This is pretty cute and annoying all at the same time. Yeah, you got two different harmonicas and two different keys, didn't you? Nope, they're all the same. I doubt it. Two harmonicas coming the same key. It's always a G. Oh, yeah. Well, dude, you got anything else you want to say about this movie? My friends, we've dissected this movie,

seen by scene time to give it our modern day ratings. This will be etched in stone. You can see our ratings of all the movies we've covered at ConfusedBreakfast.com. You can also support this show directly by going to patreon.com slash confuse breakfast. Lots of great perks like voting on upcoming movies. Direct access to our private discord, weekly bonus audio episodes, and the top tier little lbbowski urban achiever tier gets your reviews of our movies red on air. Before we drop our scores, AJ, you got anybody in the chat today? There's a couple. We got the emperor joining us on there. We got it. Let's see. Best part of the movie? Nazi card debacle. Most annoying part, the Lucy's all crying when the bus breaks down. Who damn right? Uncle Buck Hunter joining us as well. Warning spoilers. Smash mouse. Smash mouse was the best part of the movie. I'm joking. I'm joking.

The movie has a good premise and would be a dope real TV show, but I get sort of tired with it, especially during the hot air balloon scene. After that, there's funny moments, but not enough to keep, not enough there to keep my attention. The cast is great, scene John Cleese is always awesome, and the Seth Green Vince Valuve pairing is my favorite by far. Overall, I don't hate it, I don't love it, so it's a five for me. Slam dunk, most punchable face. All the neo-nazis. At the Barbie Museum. Hell yeah. Or parentheses. Even though I love the man, John Lovex for playing the worst dad ever. Correct. He's up there with Clark Griswold. Prop, John Cleese's fake cast teeth. Yep, because they are very fake. They are. Well, Sean, what's your modern day thoughts on this one, man? Yeah, I think this is one of the dumbest movies ever made, and I think it's proud to be that. And I'm here for it. I'm seeing it, and I do think it's a little underrated.

I think it's a perfect sort of just kind of, you watch it, have a little bit of fun, and kind of forget about it right after. But then you're going to want to keep this on like a physical copy, just so you can have some dumb fun with it later on in life. Yeah, I just, this is sort of my kind of comedy-ish, this stupid gaggy multiple characters doing some fun stuff. I like the premise a lot. I like where it's shot. The Las Vegas kind of, you know, aspect to it, even though like a lot of the desert scenes are filmed in Canada. I like that sort of look to it a lot. And yeah, I just think this is really just fucking stupid dumb fun, and I'm going to give it a 6.2. 6.2 for Sean AJ. What about you? Oh, man, this kind of tough, because, like compared to some movies that we've done, especially like some comedy movies,

this movie kind of has everything going for it, if you will. Like Zucker and Abrams movies are some of my favorite comedies of all time. You've got some amazing casting here, right? I mean, this is an All-Star cast, as far as All-Star casts go. You've got, I think some really, really great jokes. It's a great road movie. It's a funny road movie. And yeah, the premise is there, and I think they could have maybe had a little bit better execution. But I'm just a sucker for when I can feel a movie was a fun time to make, you know? And so, that all being said, I try not to let that seep in too much, but I do think this is actually a pretty fun movie. And I kind of have to, this is one of those movies that I kind of have to fall back to. How much do I want to rewatch this movie? You know, given all the greatness about it, but also kind of where the things fall short, and how much like I'm, I get invested into the movie in rewatching.

So, at that point, I think I've got to give it 5.2. 5.2 for AJ, a little surprising. I thought you'd be a little higher on that. But, yeah, I mean, this is my first time really given it a watch since the first time it came out when I was a two. And there's a lot of great things to say about it. It is entertaining. What do you expect? It's supposed to be like this. I don't know how much I ever really want to rewatch it, because the dumb kind of comedy is really not what I'm into. As much. That counts. Fuck. But knowing that CLB 2 Fleet surgical team, the Catalina Wine Mixer unit is like that they voted on this and that they watch it and love it, makes me like, I'm allowed to love it in that way, but also not as like a movie movie. Right. So, I will watch this again with them, and that will be the only time I probably rewatch this movie again. It's just not my style. Something that gives other people joy gives me joy.

Yes. I'm trying to keep it on my list. Outside of my list, fuck, it's a 10. If you love this, I'm a 10. Let's go. I love that you love it. But on my list, I'm going to have to be a 4.99. Wow. Okay. Did not enjoy this. I thought it was, I thought I was going to be the lowest one, actually. Yep. Let's see what Nick Madd says. First of all, he said, prop, I know we're not supposed to take living things, but give me a Kathy Bates squirrel. You have to take one. Yeah. Yeah. Pungible face. John Love, it's a son. I'll take his necklace. You Ponsum, Nick Madd. He says it was somewhere between Amy Smart trying to kill her boyfriend in a swimming pool with a helicopter and Academy Award winner, Cuba, Cuba Gooding Jr. bribing a bus driver for his clothing to catch a placenta that I realized this was going to be a difficult watch. 2001's rat race is a relic of a time when slapstick comedy still had its place on the big screen. And I'm thankful for that. However, I feel I would appreciate the humor found here much more if I had any nostalgia for it first,

much like Ace Ventura or Happy Madison film. There's a missed opportunity in not having each cast member's story intertwined more. We get it. These are the most unlucky people finding themselves in the worst situations. But I anxiously awaited the film to really tie itself together in a way that felt like a divine comedy. Rat race isn't a bad film at all, but its audience just isn't me in the year 2026. And with the explosion of the internet over 25 years later, the high jinks and rat race seem almost tame in comparison to the average YouTube feed. Cheers. Modern day rating 4.9. 4.9. As a group, we are a 5.32. And on the grand scheme of things, we've done a lot of movies over 250 right now. Would I say 5.32? That is going to land in the bottom 20 all alone. It's going to be just slightly better than Ghost Rider and 51states. But not as good as Mortal Kombat, Batman, Cliffhangers, and Cobra.

Not as good. Not as good. Of course. Let me check stuff Batman for sure. I'm just saying, man. Bottom of the list is pretty crazy down there. It's the underworld. It's like four dreams down in an inception. It's wild. It gets crazy down there. There are some comfort spots in hell. But then there are torture. Right. Right. We hope you enjoyed the episode. Thanks for being here. Tune in next week. We got a little movie called Hot Rod, followed by Truman Show. And if you want to go back in the history of confused breakfast in 2021, this week, we did the Fast and the Furious, the first one. That's 2021. 2021. Butcherbox has a solution for my family and I. It makes quality protein the easiest option when it comes time to cook. Because the easiest dinner shouldn't always be the one that comes from a drive-through. Butcherbox delivers 100% grass-fed beef, organic chicken, wild-caught seafood, and more. All sorts of standards that they can actually tell you about. They've already done the research and made the tough sourcing decisions, so all you have to do is decide what's for dinner. Every box is customizable so you can choose the cuts and proteins that fit your routine. So whether you're grilling for friends, feeding the family on a Tuesday, or just trying to avoid another expensive takeout order, you've already got great protein ready to go. I love seeing the classics in there, like some of the strip steaks and the rib eyes, especially. But I also really like seeing the things I'm not going to normally buy at the grocery store, like ground bison, or a good flat iron steak. The seafood options are amazing, I can get a laskin salmon, but my wife's favorite thing I can make for dinner is scallops, and guys, the scallops are so good. And I'll admit it, I got the organic chicken nuggets, because I knew that they would be something easy and convenient to make for my son,

but they might be mine now. So if you're looking for an easier way to get great meals on the table, give butcherbox to try. Go to butcherbox.com slash breakfast to get $20 off your first box.
