About this episode
I recently watched my State Representative tell the La Junta, CO city council about his efforts in the legislature this year.
One of the things he brought up was the bill he proposed about nuclear power. He didn’t tell them that his bill failed. He did tell them that it was about the possibility of having a small modular reactor in our district some day.
Unfortunately for him, I’m very familiar with his bill. If we define a lie as the purposeful misrepresentation of what one knows to be the truth then one must conclude that he lied to that city council. His bill didn’t say anything about an SMR. It was also tailor made for the states largest, investor-owned, electricity provider.
You can tell a lot about an elected official by the policies they propose. First ask, “who benefits.” Then ask, “do I benefit.” Two simple questions with very important answers.
Follow the money.
