Congress just rushed through another extension of Section 702, a surveillance program that allows the government to collect communications without a warrant.
It was designed for foreign intelligence. But in practice, it has already been used to conduct hundreds of thousands of searches on Americans.
That’s not a future concern. That’s already happened.
The bigger issue isn’t just how the data is collected. It’s what happens once it exists. Because once your information is in a system like this, it doesn’t stay contained. It gets searched, shared, and expanded.
That’s why I believe states need to step in where the federal government won’t.
I’m committed to introducing legislation in Colorado to stop state and local agencies from collecting bulk data on innocent people and sharing it with the federal government.
