Reusse, live from Target Field, wonders why did it take until NOW for Minnesota Twins fans to be so mad at the Pohlads?

All right Patrick Roycey. He's holding it down inside target field right now. We are just hours away from the home opener. And you know Pat our favorite past time is combing through the replies of twins tweets. They're all excited.
They are very happy. I am. Sue Anaroni's column. I didn't quite get done with it about. We should regret the pole ads and the fans should be buddies now or something. And I struggled. Yeah, the worst. The worst. The worst response. I say one thing. He must have had 150 comments at the start to immune. All telling him they hate him and they hate the twins. I think it's up to 500 comments on the.
Of the article now. Okay. Yes. Well, that's what you're looking. That's what you're looking for business. I guess that's fine. So they did with the twins have had, you know, they've had a schedule of and this is just one social media platform here and there. So they they posted this as the sun was coming up wake up. It's opening day with the hashtag no place like here. And it's a picture of target field. Yes. The darkness wake up. It's opening day. Here we go. Here are the first five replies on that.
Tweets. I'm going. I'm going back to sleep until the pole ads sell the team. No one cares. Sell the team. As long as last place is here. We'll be there. Gonna look the same when the game starts to empty. Get back to us when you have owners that give a damn and F the pole ads sell the team. Yes. Now is that all of them or is that just one? That's just five to five comments. So what?
It is so much different about the pole ads now than like five years ago is what I want to know. I mean, what I guess, you know,
Korea, they signed and they thought we thought we were they were spending some money. But, you know, it isn't it's they are what they are. I mean, they're you're never what do we think we're going to do?
We're going to get new owners and then we're going to be bidding paying 60 million a year for Kyle Tucker for four years.
That would these people think I don't forget it. They told people they were going to sell. Yes, then they didn't sell there. They're the neighbor that the hate them. And the more sales sign goes up and you're like, thank God, yeah, okay. But but when did you decide you hated that? That's what I want to know.
Oh, I think people decided a long time ago. They didn't like them. But then, but then they teased you. They teased you with we're out of here. We're done. And then they're like, I just kidding. We're not done. We're going to find another pole. I was no one's ever heard of. I get the frustration.
Well, you know why they didn't sell. Ladies, they have a everybody looked at the numbers. They have a terrible TV deal. They got an outdoor stadium. And then a soda was 19 home games in April. They they they have a it is not a premium franchise. It's probably one of the 10 or 12 words places to on a tee. I would say right now. Maybe a little worse. You got no, you know, you got no TV.
You've gone from 60. You know, if they sold it four years ago, they were getting 60 million in regional TV. Now they're getting $5.50. You know, that's it. I don't understand. You know, okay. They're, you know, they're unpopular. But one when they beat when they won those two playoff games against Toronto.
We thought they were on the cusp of being great was at it. And then we decided to cut payroll. I guess that must be a time. Sure. But but then you're like, we're getting out. Then so did that. And then they said, okay, we're done. We're not going to do this anymore. And the fans are like, this is great. You're going to sell the team. And then, you know, by the way, I hate to tell you this, but one reason that they they cut payroll is that there are two partners.
They're new partners. I thought that the finances were terrible. So they had to improve the finances for their new partners. So the lawyer familiarly, the jewelry store owner from New York. Is that what we want? Do we want him? Is he going to say the hell with it? We're going to have a $250 million dollar a year payroll.
We just have what we think, you know, I think I think I think some of this. It's it's less. I agree. Like I think that the grass isn't necessarily going to be extremely green on the other side. If they do sell, unless there's economical changes. But I think some of this is a 40 year old, three generation. And now we're multiple names into the third generation lifetime achievement, hatred award by fans like fans. Like, and I will admit, I'm going to do it here.
I will admit that if if it was the social media era when contraction came, they would have they might have been out already because it would have been more, but it would have been more vicious than that it is now because that was a, you know, that was a, that was a worst development.
But now I think it was always funny that they were going to be contracted. But basically told me that what he was chewing my ass down in Phoenix and a private one hour meeting at a big room when he was walking around smoking cigars on around and around and around.
And because I'd written a thing, demeaning him, demeaning the pole ads, anything. And he basically said, we just had to get him a stadium, but it took another 12 years to get a stadium. Well, what was 2000, basically, we can, you know, when it was hot, then the 2001 team was there was the contraction boys. So, but this was, but maybe 99 when it started to when it was being whispered. And I mean, yeah, if, if Twitter existed then,
I don't know if Carol would have survived you.
Oh, man. Well, think about this. Like we were in many of our, we do a lot of pole ad discussions on the Scornar Twin Show and different things pop up. And I just pulled back one of the episodes we did a few months ago.
And I was curious since night. So 1991 was the was essentially the peak of 87 and 91 were the peak of professional sports championships in this town, right?
Yes. And so since since 1991, only two teams have fewer playoff wins than the twins, only Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.
The twins have nine playoff game wins since 1991, a third of the league have at least 50, by the way. So it's, it's like winning a series once in a while.
She has to be this magical achievement. But the other thing is since moving into target field, the twins have the fifth worst winning percentage in all of Major League baseball.
And we could debate like, why and, and who is that fault the most, but fans say, well, we're the new ballpark.
Why, after 16 years in the new ballpark, do you have one of the five worst records in baseball screw this ownership group? I think it's high level in terms of the hatred.
Yeah, it, it probably is. But, you know, the idea that the, that that first decade of the 2000s was bad is they won six division titles and great teams.
They just couldn't win in the post season because well, the Oakland thing was the biggest disaster ever because that, you know, if Leriano stays healthy, that team might win the World Series.
And then they could beat by Oakland in three games because the morons had two celebrations within 48 hours and got out there and got beat by Barry Zito.
But that was a great team. That had the batting champion, the MVP in the side, you're an award winner.
Yeah.
That team was, they had damn good teams and they just couldn't win a post season. And now that's, now people look back on that as a failure too.
And baseball, here's the other thing. See, I'm old enough to remember when baseball was, hey, we had a pretty good year with things third, you know, that was pretty good.
But now with the expansion of playoffs, it's just like every other sport. If you don't succeed in the playoffs, you're a complete failure.
So, yeah.
Yeah. But again, the problem is this, they spent the entire time being good in the odds while complaining about where they played.
And so we need to get outside and then, and then wait and see. And it's filled just brought up. It's been for the most part of disaster.
Like the Polettes PR wise are a disaster. Like that's their biggest problem. They are a complete train wreck.
Well, and I think, I think Jim Polette was fine because he never said anything.
Correct.
He's talked like twice a year.
But these guys think they can talk their way around things. But, yeah.
Yeah.
But here's the other deal too about this glorious state. Nice stadium. We like it. It's sound or ballpark. But Jerry Bell basically told me.
We wanted a rough. We took what we could get. You know, we wanted this. This is they took what they could get because of it with a rough.
But it cost 440 and then they added some things on with a rough at 750 and they couldn't get 750. So they took what they could get.
And you know, let's face it, it was wonderful.
And the summer for the first, well, they the wonder left quickly in 2011, but, but.
But now you'd like to have a rough, you know, and I asked the question the other day of filling that one. Were they better off in the metro?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They're back now where they were payroll wise relative to the league at the Notre Dame.
Yes.
They're back revenue wise and attendance wise where they were. I mean, the premium suites are probably still being sold at a decent enough rate.
But I'm not saying like money for money, but like ranking in the league.
I agree with that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They're being sold very well.
You're probably right.
No, here's a, you know, it's just, you know, it's a listen.
What they need is a genius like the guy in Milwaukee, who's ever putting that those teams together for a hundred million a year.
And how are they doing it?
It's unbelievable.
It's not because Pat Murphy is a genius, and they got somebody, you know, we gave
Felvie credit here, right?
We didn't really rip him much.
What, who did, have you looked at, who's in this organization, who are these guys?
You got Zolan Charms, then you got Daniel Adler, who was a business guy from Tampa, who's
got baseball responsibilities, then they got this Goldstein who got fired in Houston because
he was one of the guys in on the spine, and he's been there three years, and we don't
even know he exists, but he's helping make a personnel decision.
We don't know who's doing what, and, you know, it's a disaster right now, I admit that,
but I just don't understand why they pull that hatred, it's an all-time high, and I guess
I just explained it by saying social media, but when you had a guy six years after your
world series offering your team up for contraction, we should have been a little matter about
that, to the Wii, I don't know.
Well, we were, we just didn't have Twitter, we didn't have Instagram, you know, we didn't
have the comments.
We were letters to the editor.
Yeah, that's true.
What are we going to do tonight?
What are we going to do?
We took Calvin's statue down because of some speech he made in Ysake, Ysake in 1978, or
something in 1979.
And, how long are we going to keep Calvin L. Lee's out there?
I'm like, you know, is that, is that next, we have to get rid of Carl and L. Lee's?
It's good to see all the team, yeah?
Yeah, because they're, because they're generating, because they're getting the movement going
right now.
Yeah, because they're generating the fan.
She was a big fan, she was a big fan, we'll just, we'll split the statue and get Carl
out of there.
Stick him in the back.
Yeah, you know who was the real fan, Carl's mother, Mary, who lived to be 104, yes.
I met her one day.
I wrote some about this the other day, but I met her when she was like 98 and I started
talking to her.
She says, what paper are you with?
And I said, the star tribune, I, I, she's like, oh, I love that paper.
That's my paper.
But there's that one guy there who keeps writing bad things about my son.
And I said, Mary, when we get back to Minneapolis, I'm going to track that guy down and get rid
of it, you know?
And the guy who helped her, Willie, was looking at me smiling, but, yeah, she was a big
fan.
She's, but, uh, and a little for 50 years or so.
Yeah, real quick.
But by the way, real quick, I just saw like a half hour ago, our, our guy, Aaron Gleeman
posted a picture from the concourse, the twins have planted two dollar beer signs all over
the concourse.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, have you seen those?
I just tweeted one out from up here in the, uh, in the club.
I'm, I have a little two dollar beer all over now.
What does it go, go to first pitch?
Is that right?
Or what?
I believe so.
I think that's, that's like the happy hour.
And what everybody is, is it one of those little shot glasses and plastic like you get
at the St. James?
Or is it a real beer?
I don't know.
Yeah.
I don't know what you'll look at.
But I, I saw, I saw the people at the concession stand as in a panic because they're
going to know how much beer they're going to have to pull.
They're very, uh, they're very nervous.
What else?
They were hoping they wouldn't have to work at all today.
What else?
Hey, what happened in the weather here?
It's, uh, we did, uh, what happened?
Usually when they tell us they're going to have storms now, they're correct.
But what happened to this thing?
We didn't, we didn't get to a rain storm yesterday and, uh, now it's, now it's a nice
day.
I don't get it.
Yeah.
A couple of things.
So, uh, we did get the, the National Weather Service, uh, definitely sent out a note
yesterday where they, they downgraded the severity of the storm for Hennepin County.
They said we were going to miss a portion of it.
Um, and then, well, it looks like it does say a 100% chance of rain now between noon
and one.
So.
Okay.
Brace yourself for that.
We're almost there.
Right.
We're almost there right now.
Well, uh, as far as the ball club is concerned, uh, does, uh, you think or see, our
see his brother can still play it all.
It's shortstop.
He's over in Saint Paul and they're not ready to call up call pepper, but they, uh, I
don't think Brooks Lee can play and, uh, and, you know, it's, and, uh, and, uh, and
Tristan Gray, I don't think is the answer either.
I wonder if they're going to give our see his brother a chance if he gets a few hits
over there in Saint Paul.
If you can hear it all, it's virtually a bust.
I think he's getting there.
He just doesn't look like a, just doesn't look like a big league player.
And, uh, boy, they were good in the field yesterday.
How did they win that game?
I don't know.
Maybe they kicked it all over the base.
And on the bases, they've been fantastic.
I mean, I think they've gotten like eight guys throwing out so far in the bases.
Yeah.
Caron Teenie.
That should have been me trying to go from second to third to figure what it might have
been quicker, Pat.
This, this idea that we're going to be, we're, we announced we're going to be more
aggressive.
Why?
Let's see what you got.
Who do you got?
That's a burner.
Buckston.
That's it.
I'm going to wear him out a little sooner, but, but, you're, you, you, you, you say that
when you're like Kansas City used to be and had eight guys are going to run.
You don't have, we're just going to be faster.
Come on.
Trevor Larnick goes and goes first to third.
What the hell are you talking about, you know, just play the game that fits your team.
And in this case, I don't know if there is one.
So, I disagree.
I like the little league tactic of don't stop running until you get tagged out.
Yes.
That's what needs to happen.
A little of that.
A little of that.
They got it.
You know what?
Ford was still playing a couple of years ago.
Can we get him back?
It was, you know, Chad, Chad Allen was the real man.
Oh, yeah.
Chad Allen.
He was the guy that started stealing second base when the picture is still in the ball,
right?
That worked a couple of times.
Well, the problem is someone would yell, hey, throw it to second.
Oh, God.
I love that guy.
He was crazy, man.
He was.
Chad Allen.
It was on a whim.
When was that early 2000?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think it was like, was it 2000?
It wasn't in this.
It wasn't in this part.
It was in the old part.
It was on the top.
Yeah.
Ford was the dome.
Chad Allen was the dome.
Yeah.
I'm not on a chat.
I'm on Chad Allen's baseball reference page here.
So, yeah, he was.
He was a fourth round pick out of Texas A&M in 1996 and he made his twins debut in 1999.
He was like 99, 2000.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Those first.
And it was.
TK had a little trouble with some of his base running.
I remember that.
TK, it was not.
I don't know.
He's stealing seven times.
I think all of them were him trying to like, oh, the picture's not looking.
Let's go.
Well, it's, uh, uh, they might have.
I don't know.
I don't know.
We haven't.
We used to get crowd estimates, right?
When St. Pete was in charge and campaigning.
I wonder if they'll have 25 today.
What do you think?
Boy.
I think they like paid.
They will have 25.
Yeah.
Actually, humans.
Boy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I know.
I don't know.
It's, uh, it, you know, as, uh, I know you are too, Phil and Judd too.
You know, baseball guy.
It's kind of sad.
That's the sea.
Yeah.
See that your team is as popular.
I'm not quite as popular as the frost.
It's, uh, you know, hey, two-time defending champions, not a frost.
They win titles.
The Walter Cop is home in St. Paul.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's, uh, it is kind of sad.
I'm, I'm waiting to see what, uh, what it looks like.
And, you know, sometimes you look at a team when you think that you might be surprised.
But I really can't see it with this outfit.
I really can't.
You know, Bucsden is amazing.
But if this is going to be Bucsden again, another year like that, he's going to be kind
of lost in the shuffle here.
Kind of like Rodney was for a few years in the 70s.
That, you know, one of the most amazing stories in franchise history.
Nobody gives a damn because they're all mad at the owners.
So.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, you, uh, hey, what's with our, what's with our T was?
What is, what is it?
When are their players going to start playing there?
So what, what's Edwin's had wrong with it?
What's going on?
Well, they added illness to the equation last night.
So I don't know.
I don't know what percentage of his absence last night was illness versus knee.
So we got to figure that out.
But they played tonight.
It also was a back-to-back.
So they maybe just said, uh, let's play tonight and fill it up.
They know we're going to lose the Detroit anyway.
Yeah.
And then, uh, Jayden is weak to weak.
So he's not, Jayden is not, uh, anywhere close to playing in a game right now.
You think when that, you think that two weeks when Jayden was, uh, terrible was maybe traced
to something going on here physically?
I don't know.
As a, there were, he disappeared there for a while and, and, you know, and I, I admire him
greatly as a player, but sometimes he's, uh, he, that head is hanging a little bit.
That's, that's for sure.
So, you know, the other news.
Okay.
Go ahead.
The, the other news today, uh, Kevin Garnett, officially going to step back inside target
center for, for the last regular season game, April 12th.
And Glen Taylor has a chance to do the funniest thing.
So he maintained ownership of those season tickets.
He's been to one game all year by my account and it was the home opener.
If Glen were to show up as a proud season ticket holders, said front row for the case.
I think you were sure.
I don't know how his health is at the moment.
We'll find out when the links come because he never misses a links game, but, uh, I, I
don't think he'll do that.
I, I don't think he'll do that.
Kevin is, uh, so is Kevin getting a job in the organization too?
And that was kind of the hint that he was trying to get some kind of a job here too.
So he's, he, he's an ambassador for the organization he's doing.
He did a YouTube sit down interview like a week ago, two weeks ago with Michael
Grady, uh, we'll see, we'll see.
And, uh, they'll, uh, I want to have they send out the season ticket renewal notices yet
because I understand the people who were complaining about the price increases this
year are going to get a real jolt next year.
That's almost that.
Well, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's triple the prices before, uh, a first round
exit in five games at the hands of potentially Luca and one more thing.
Jared, it's pretty much a cinch that it's wild at Dallas to open the playoffs, right?
Dallas one of them last night.
So there's four points ahead with only a game's left.
And, uh, yep, that'll be a hell of a series.
That'll be fantastic.
Oh, yeah, be fun.
Definitely be fun.
So all right, Jens, uh, come on out to the yard.
Let's go here.
See you out there.
I'm waiting for the parking spots for 25 bucks left, uh, the left back here.
So no place like here.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Yeah, right.
No place like $2 beer.
Yes, that's right.
Goodbye.
See you.
All right.
