RNF # 77: MintRefresh Discusses Minecraft + Minecraft Live, Tiny Takeover

Hello my friends and welcome to a brand new realm news flash with your host, The Dark Lord.

The one who puts the real and realm and expands your mind one block at a time and I just

want to go ahead and state this right off the bat. I'm going to go ahead and dedicate this episode,

this realm news flashed to my mom, my mom, Christine Howard, who passed away last Monday. This is

the first episode I've made since her passing, I'm not trying to be morbid or depressing, saying

that out loud. I just want to dedicate this to her. One last time I talked to her, she told me she was

really proud of what I've done making this show and that may sound weird because it's a

Minecraft podcast but she really enjoyed it and so I just want to say you will be missed mom and

I love you through my heart. With that said, I would like to move on. This is going to be a really

short episode because my mom's passing and I just have time to do to make it more detailed and I

wasn't even going to release this today on Tuesday. That's why I didn't release that midnight

earlier this morning at 1201A and like I always do. I decided when I got home from work and

I just thought about it and I have the energy to produce a small episode and I know that a lot

of people around the world depend on this for entertainment and right now the climate on Earth

the global society isn't that great and I don't want to deny anybody their source of entertainment

wherever they're at so yeah that's why I'm making this. I just want to explain that to you because

as I've said two years ago at the beginning of this podcast I am extremely transparent and I'm

going to be transparent with you about everything even if that's my life because my life affects

this show and if this show's affected that affects you. Anyways I know that was a long roundabout

way to talk and with that said let's go ahead and get this this started. I will be like I said

this is a short episode but I will be discussing a couple news things. I will be discussing the baby

drop that has a name now tiny takeover and the Minecraft Spring Life event we'll talk a little bit

about that and after the news portion of the show I will provide a five minute clip to this Thursday's

episode with a discussion I had with a Minecraft mastermind who goes by Mint Refresh so whenever

you're ready let's start the show. Okay my friends we are in the news portion of the show and I would

like to start with that the baby drop that we have been dealing with for the last three months has

finally concluded and they have given it a name it's called tiny takeover that's the Appalachian

of this spring drop and that's what I have to say about I hope you'll have fun with the babies

I won't be doing anything with them personally I'm ready for the Minecraft live spring drop that

is coming on Saturday March 21st at 10 a.m. Pacific time 12 p.m. Central Standard time and one

p.m. Eastern time so mark down your calendars folks and don't miss it I don't even I don't have

any clue what they're going to present us some people have said that the speculations on maybe a

fishing update which I've said I want new fishing things I've been going on about that and crops

fishing and crops so those are the two things I've been wanting and also dual wielding I am a huge

supporter of Michael TBH's dual wielding campaign so any of those three things I'm all down for

but it's gotta be better than babies sorry people that love those little baby drops that we got

but I am so bored to death with it that I am ready to move on let's let's move on guys give me

something exciting anyways that's it for the news I would like to now provide you let's move

on to the next portion of the show where I'll provide you a five minute clip with the discussion I

had with the content creator mint refresh I would say that the goal of most of my content

is to make minecraft feel more like a living breathing complex world and less like an artificial

video game which is definitely maybe a strange statement like we when we play minecraft we all imagine

these worlds and stories that we create and portray and and what I want to do is a smooth out

all some of those edges that there are because like there's a lot of things in minecraft that are

very predictable that I think some that some people definitely notice I think some people maybe

don't especially like before it's maybe pointed out but like when you are mining like every diamond

ore has the same repeating pattern on it's every zombie looks the same every dandelion is a carbon

copy like and then there's things that don't follow like the same rules that other things do or

just don't make like complete sense for reasons of game design and so that would be like copper armor

dozens oxidize and then like for example if you have like an apple or or saw like a bowl of soup

but you can't put it down on the table but these are all things that you would expect to happen

because of how either how the game works or because of you know why can't you do that like why

if I why can't I put an apple on my table and so yeah it takes away if I'm like the feeling of a

real immersive world and like there's so many different breeds and looks of animals in the

real world and there's so many things that a zombie might have in its pockets instead of just

a carrot a potato or an ironing it and and like maybe the pig that you see over there is muddy

because it was playing in the dirt like the small details like that really could make the world

feel like so much more real because like minecraft's a really cool and interesting universe I think

I'm sure we both agree on that yeah but I want to try and do a lot of my packs is push it to that next

level and I think that's what draws me to your work because well especially I was going to ask you

this a little bit later but lately you've been posting like a baby mob once a day like a new one

right yes so that is for one of my packs is called earth animals that adds mob variants to the

game that were originally from minecraft earth right and so there was a limited amount that

we have like easy access to creating variants for in Java edition but that is basically the

idea of that I also do more than just mob variants I do want to put that out there now but there

has been a lot of mob variants stuff especially with recently where they added the new baby models

as well as the golden dandelion which all like lends itself to stuff from minecraft earth and variants

yeah looks great I have and I know I've been critiquing the baby mob drop a lot but your baby

mobs have looked fantastic and I'm looking here at your YouTube right now you said the minecraft

earth mobs right yes yeah that's like your most popular video with 3.6000 views right oh it

it might be I can believe that I know that video did really well which is why I

originally showed off the official version of that pack before like actually it's like it's right

before the spring to life drop came out which is what allowed that pack to even be possible

yeah it said 10 months ago so yeah right before it and what I think I have this bookmarked here

don't I yeah I do this became viral with 247 repose this isn't it baby but this is your

mood bloom which looks beautiful with the golden dandelions on top and said the regular dandelions

but yeah you had 247 repose 5.5 thousand hearts and 52 thousand views that's insane

yeah that post did really well and that I mean to be honest because that was I did that on a whim

that was very much like that was the day the golden dandelion was first presented to everyone

and of course there's been a lot of talk in the community on how something like that could be

implemented because people have wanted the feature of keeping mobs as babies for a while

okay and so they of course they added a flower and because a lot of the minecraft community

is still so in love with the moob bloom that immediately people were like moob bloom

and so I and so I sat down after work and I was like okay obviously this is something that some

people might want to like see like some sort of visual concept and so of course because I've

been working on the earth animal stuff and making the baby versions for that pack for the next

update I already had all the stuff pulled up so I just opened the moob bloom texture as well as the

golden dandelion and started shifting colors to match it better and put it on a model and and

posted it it looks beautiful it does look good man like yeah I appreciate it yeah that was again

just a whim and a live people have had different thoughts on whether or not that should have been

the implementation which despite posting it my take is no I don't think that should have been how

the moob bloom gets added I love his creations and I love that he tries to smooth out some the edges

in the minecraft in minecraft in order to add more depth to the game by adding different things

such as just just odd just things you wouldn't find like when you kill a zombie what drops out of

its pockets or the muddy pigs I mentioned in that clip as just a couple examples I also loved his

ma babies that he was that he was designing and releasing each day for like a month you should
