Robert Maxwell Was Allegedly Paranoid Before His Untimely Demise
About this episode
The Epstein Chronicles is made possible by:
By the final months of his life, Maxwell had become almost delusional in his distrust. He isolated himself aboard his yacht, the Lady Ghislaine, surrounded by loyalists and bodyguards while cutting off communication with anyone he didn’t fully control. Reports and tapes from that period show a man consumed by suspicion, believing that enemies in government, media, and even within his own business circle were conspiring to bring him down. His death at sea—officially ruled accidental but still clouded in mystery—seemed to encapsulate the final unraveling of a man trapped in his own web of lies, surveillance, and fear.

Next week, there's a documentary that's going to be premiering on BBC. That's called the House of Maxwell. Well, today we have an article from the Mirror that's giving us a little bit of a preview of some of the stuff that we're going to find in this documentary. And this article is discussing how Robert Maxwell was deep into his paranoia in the months prior to his death. And that all adds up, right? The walls were closing in. The man was an asset for multiple
intelligent services. And when the walls start closing in on people like this, a lot of times, well, either a, they're killed off or b, there's a suicide. And it was option b with Mr. Maxwell. We all know that old boy was having a whiz in the complete nude off the edge of his boat. And allegedly, he fell in and drowned. Now, I have my doubts about the official narrative when it comes to Robert Maxwell. But why don't we jump into this article and let's see what the mirror has to say about this upcoming documentary headline secret tapes reveal Robert Maxwell's paranoia in the months prior to his death. This article was authored by Nicola Methfin. The full extent of media mogul Robert Maxwell's paranoia in the months leading up to his death has been laid bare in secretly recorded phone calls between his executives. Now, imagine you're an executive at the time when
things start going south. And you're so suspicious of what Maxwell is up to that you start recording conversations that are being had in the company between you, between him, whenever he's talking to anyone, all because you know that something is a miss. The disgraced mirror owner who had worked for the KGB, the MI6, bugged the offices of his global media empire and his lavish home in Oxford Shire. So look, let's not forget that he also worked for the Masad. Now, there's a lot of people out there that love to insert the Masad all over the place, right? But this is one instance where it is actually correct. You just take a look at how Robert Maxwell was honored in death inside of Israel and it tells you everything you need to know about the extent of the relationship between Maxwell and the Israeli government and intelligence services. It's very clear what was going on there. But he wasn't one of these guys that was just playing for one team, if you will. He was working with
the KGB. He was working with the MI6. And I suspect that he passed that sort of tradition down to his daughter, Galen Maxwell. I've said from the beginning that Maxwell was groomed for her behavior, for her, you know, asset behavior sitting at the knee of her father, she learned the ins and outs. We all know that they were very close and we all know that her and Maxwell were, you know, the two that were closest. So it makes sense that Robert Maxwell would divulge a bit of the family secrets down to Galen, doesn't it? In the audio recordings revealed in a TV documentary, his senior staff are frustrated at being unable to contact Maxwell for three days while he was selling off the Canary Islands. One key executive says, I'm fucked if I know what he's done. He's gone away on his boat and he said to me, he was going to talk to them. And I'm still trying to track this
bloody money down. So this is when everything was going south. The money was gone. There was no way to recoup this money. It was way too much. And Maxwell had already spent it. And furthermore, now the executives can't even find him. So as the shit hits the fan, Robert Maxwell is out here in the Canary Islands floating around like some clown. Leaving a mess to be picked up and cleaned by his subordinates and colleagues, typical in Maxwell fashion. No, that's one of the trademarks of the family. Another is heard saying it's going to blow up and head in the sand isn't going to help. Fuck sake. For months, senior mirror group employees had secretly suspected there were holes in the company's finances, including the staff's pension fund. Now imagine you go to work every day. You're contributing to your pension every paycheck. Come to find out that this already rich piece of shit is stealing your money, stealing your future. So again, it's in their genes, right? It's like a
Maxwell family trade to be a scumbag. In November of 1991, their boss's body was found floating in the Atlantic Ocean. Soon after his death, it was discovered he had stolen $440 million pounds, not dollars pounds, from the pension fund to inflate the company's share price. Out here playing games, trying to manipulate the market, trying to make it look better for investors so that when they sell shares, more people will be interested in buying them. While in the meantime, all of the money that was in the pension, all of the money that was being contributed by the employees was being pilfered. There is a deep dark hole in the bottom of hell for people who do that. His global media empire was found to be around two billion pounds in debt. The BBC 2 series also
contains previously unseen footage of Maxwell hours before his death, standing on the deck of the super yacht, Lady Galaine, named after his favorite daughter. You know, all of these guys with their big ass yachts and this and that and the other thing, I am so convinced at this point that the vast majority of these people are involved in schemes, plots and otherwise disgusting, you know, scams when it comes to making this money because every time we hear about one of these people, they're corrupt, they're aderic and they're just gross human beings. I honestly struggle to look and find one billionaire, even just one billionaire out there that you can look at and say, all right, this is somebody who, you know, does it the right way? Somebody that you can say breaks the norms of the usual scumbags like the thinks of the world, the Leon Blacks of the world, the Robert Maxwell's of the world. Just take a look at all of the heads of all of these financial
institutions and hedge funds. They're all, for the most part, have all been slapped with SEC sanctions or insider trading or whatever it is. Now obviously, I'm not saying they're all on the level of Jeffrey Epstein or Robert Maxwell, but none of these people are like, you know, squeaky clean, and all you have to do is take a look at their records. The footage also shows 22 stone Maxwell naked in the sea with the ship's buoyancy ring around his torso. Sounds like a pretty wrong way to go, huh? Pretty an oval. So I'm wondering like it was his body so rank that he was so corrupt that even the sharks could sense that so they didn't eat him. I mean, I know there are sharks off of the Canary Islands. I know there's great whites, whites off of the shores of the Canary Islands. So you mean to tell me no fish ate this dude, no sharks ate this dude? Must be because he's so corrupt. They didn't want the indigestion.
They didn't want to deal with that agita. So they were like, fuck it. We'll just let this dude float around. After his death, senior staff struggled to make sense of his finances. One tells another, they have discovered they are short by 6.8 million pounds. On top of the 100 bloody million, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Comes the incredulous response. Now these guys are left holding the bag, all of these executives. Now I don't know the story completely like too deep as far as, you know, the grift that was going on with the company. I never really delved all the way deep into it about other executives and stuff, but I'm guessing a few of these other guys were enriched on this scam. And it's not so much that they know that, you know, money's been pilfered. It's that they're about to get caught. And again, it really goes back to what we talk about with the royals in general. All of these people, it's not so much that they're, you know, oh man, I'm remorseful. They're not remorseful about their actions. They're remorseful that they get caught
doing it. Because if they were really remorseful about their actions, they would have shown that. They would have, you know, tried to make amends. But how many of these people do that? It's fall in Jeep country. And during the drive into fall sales event, get a great deal on four by fours that refuse to be contained, like Jeep Wrangler. Confidence built into every drive with the most awarded SUV ever, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and freedom that can't be denied with the open air freedom and Jeep gladiator. After 85 years, it's no surprise that Jeep became America's SUV brand. Get a great deal during the Jeep drive into fall sales event. Jeep is one more awards over its lifetime than any other SUV brand, Jeep and the Jeep Grill Registered Trademarks of FCA US LLC. In exchanges voiced by actors to protect identities, one executive says, where the hell has all the money gone? He is assured that a big chunk is on the way back. The man replies, if it doesn't, there's going to be the most god almighty public scandal. Another staff member concludes, where fucked? I think that's the most uh,
straight to the point and obvious statement of the day. You guys are all screwed. Took in taking all this money, 400 million pounds in grifted dough. Certainly not going to end well for anybody. Former Mirror Group Secretary, Cara Brajoli, said towards the end of his life, Maxwell only trusted. Uh, sons, Kevin and Ian, who worked alongside him. She added, he was becoming very suspicious. It reflects how paranoid he was becoming. So the two sons, Kevin and Ian, they also ended up, uh, you know, dealing with some criminal charges of their own that they did beat. Now I have my doubts about all of that, but hey, what do I know? Right? Just a guy with an opinion hanging out in the studio. The Maxwell Brothers were later arrested on suspicion of fraud, but were both acquitted at a trial. Executive producer Colin Barr said despite the extensive research for the three films,
it is still unknown if Maxwell killed himself or fell in by accident. He does not think it was murder. You know, it's funny. Everyone's always so cautious about saying something like that, because they don't want to be called a conspiracy theorist by the knuckleheads in the legacy media. You know, the same people who cause a lot of these conspiracy theories by not being honest, by not demanding transparency from our government, only to go around and start castigating people as conspiracy theorists. It's a bit of a joke, right? How can we count out that something bad happened to Bob Maxwell on this boat? Now I don't know what happened. I'm not going to sit here and, uh, you know, go to the mattresses and say, oh, he was definitely killed, but to just discount it. And then to call people who have a different opinion conspiracy theorists, well, you're going to need to have some evidence of that, right? It's not like we're talking about the flat earth here. He told radio times we have footage from the yacht that week where he looks relaxed, but who knows?
He had a bottomless capacity for convincing himself his own lies were true and then by then, he was extremely paranoid or ever more isolated as the financial news tightened. You'll see that a lot with people like this. When they're getting ready to get nailed by the police, they become paranoid, they become all sorts of unhinged, and they become reclusive. Maxwell could have been a heroic figure coming from poverty to succeed in a country as class ridden is Britain. Instead, his path curdled into hubris, vanity and moral corruption, which was then passed down the line to his family, including Galaine. It's hard to imagine a more dramatic rise or disastrous fall. There's a look, there's no doubt about that. This guy could have really been a hero. Somebody that people looked at and said, hey, man, this guy really made his way, didn't he? He really pulled himself up from his bootstraps and made his way. But that's not the case. Instead, he used the power and the influence that he gained
for evil to steal from people, to take the pensions of the people who actually made him rich. His employees, the people that built the company for him, he might have had the ideas, he might have had the resources, but it's people on the front line, the very people that were putting money into those pensions that made that company what it was. And this MF decided, screw them and screw it all. I'm stealing the money. Why? Because he needed to be a little bit more rich. He needed a little bit more money, a little more money to swim around in like Scrooge McDuck. I find it all obscene. And honestly, I find it all absurd. The way that these people are able to do whatever they want, whenever they want, there has to be a point in time where enough is enough. And sure, if he didn't die, I'm sure he would have been convicted and I'm sure he would have spent some time in jail, but do you really think this guy would have been penalized to a point
where he would have never thought of grifting again, where he would have never thought of trying to regain his fortune? Because you know all of these people will not seed power. Power has to be ripped from them. Absolutely ripped from them. And I don't just mean from their hands. I mean in a societal manner, all of these laws that are on the books that benefit these people while they shit on us, they all have to be looked at. We need a full audit of the country and of the laws in this country. I'm convinced of that because we have so many stupid laws that mean nothing. And then we have all of these rules and guidelines that only the poorest amongst us have to follow. We don't have the ability to park our money offshore or in some tax haven, the way these people do. Nah, we show up every year and pay our taxes, the way we're supposed to and keep on moving. But these people continue to manipulate society and they continue
to get away with it. And then at the end of the day when they've already secured the bag, they got to shit on us some more by stealing our pension. The series also deals with Golanes friendship with billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. In December, she was convicted of sex trafficking. House of Maxwell starts Monday on BBC 2 at 9 pm. Well, there you have it folks. We got ourselves a new documentary to dive on into called the House of Maxwell. I'm certainly going to give it a look. I'm very interested about Robert Maxwell's life and the depraved lifestyle that derelict lived. You have to understand the origin stories. If you want to understand now, you most certainly have to understand the past and how we got here and what better way to do that than to take a look behind the scenes at Robert Maxwell's rise to power and his fall. That's going to do it for tonight's update folks. Obviously, plenty more is on the way. Flashback episodes and otherwise.
