Romo's Golf Misfire: US Open Dreams Shattered

On April 30th, Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, just swung and missed big

time in his bid for the U.S. Open.

The guy who threw for over 34,000 yards in the NFL tried a local golf qualifier at Ridgewood

Country Club in Waco, Texas, but posted a 9-over par 79 that's 11 shots shy of what he needed

to advance.

After hanging up his cleats 12 years ago, Romo dove into broadcasting with CBS Sports

where he started as a fan favorite.

Lately though, some viewers have turned sour on his commentary, even calling for the

network to bench him.

Golf's been his side hustle for years, and he's got special permission to chase spots

in majors like the U.S. Open, which hits every June.

But Talon alone and Kudney yet, he needed to score in the low 60s of 70s to snag one

of the six final qualifying spots, and it just wasn't his day.

Now he'll regroup for next year's shot at the big stage.

Romo's proving live some multi-sport game broadcast booth one day, fairways the next.
