Wayne reflects on Max Dowman’s breakthrough moment for Arsenal and explains why those first moments can stay with a player forever. He also discusses how young players should be supported, balancing the hype around them with the need to protect their development based off his own experiences at 16.
Wayne also addresses the discussion around Anthony Gordon's post-match comments after Chelsea and the role sports science now plays in team selection, explaining how different the approach would have been earlier in his career under Sir Alex Ferguson.
They talk about Bruno Fernandes’ influence and consistency during a difficult period for Manchester United and there's also praise for Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha, whose direct style and willingness to run at defenders has caught Wayne’s attention.
And what does Wayne think about Arsenal’s position in the title race? And why does he believe the race is not completely settled yet?

What are opportunities for him to be around?
To squat, he could be a Premier League.
Well, now when he's,
do you still finish in school?
That is a bad thought.
When I scored against Arsenal,
I think I was like on 75 pounds, or we could sort of go,
you're joking.
I think he'd be expected to finish in Champions League,
but I'm sure they'll have conversations.
And if he doesn't, then see what happens from there.
To put those numbers up,
give them the context of this season.
Who's playing better than him?
I tell you what, it feels like that was a good weekend of Premier League football,
with a lot of stories, doesn't it, Wayne?
From Saturday, right through to Sunday, there was,
I mean, there was also some terrible games,
there was some terrible no-nils in there.
Let's be honest, but there was quite a lot of stories,
wasn't there, particularly a certain teenager on Saturday?
Yes, well, fortunately, it's got to come again in September.
No, I think it was, it's a big moment for him and his life,
and for Max Darwin, Darwin and his life in his career.
Obviously, it's something which I've been through as a 16-year-old.
That moment, we'll live here with him for the rest of his life,
and we should be many more, but that's the first time it happens,
and you could see him how happy he was as well,
after he scored him.
It's a big moment for him.
There was a little bit where I don't think he realized what he'd actually done.
That was quite, quite fun to see,
because he hadn't a clue, but then you're seeing our tetrah and a bench game,
crazy, and a whole stadium's going mad.
And then he looked at it and he was like,
oh, yeah, and then he started kicking the corner flag.
Yeah, no, you told to him, because he's obviously
a hugely talented player.
Young player and either score goals in games for, I don't know,
it's 2021, or the second team, whatever it is now.
And then, to do it in front of that many fans is different,
and you don't know how you're going to react if you score.
So it's a massive moment for him for the club,
obviously, to bring a player through like that.
You can all see his talent, and it's a big year for him as well,
because I think he'd be doing his GCSEs.
So he's probably got a lot on.
I thought you were going to mention a World Cup.
You never know.
You might have to miss his GCSEs for the World Cup.
It happens with the...
That's happened with Theo, didn't he?
Theo made the World Cup after not even playing in the Premier League.
Can we talk about the goal, Wayne?
Because we were talking about his overall form as well,
because I mean, he only came on in the second half,
but he had an impact straight away.
His goal, I saw a few people saying,
oh, he kind of just had to run through,
but talk us through just what skill that took to keep his composure,
even to take it round.
I can't be who it was on the halfway line.
And to go the whole way through at just 16 years old,
what kind of skill and composure does that take?
Yeah, it does, but for him, for that type of player, that's what he is.
He's a dribbler, he takes the ball, he's a clever player.
And he attacks defenders.
So probably for him a little bit easier than the most.
And certainly for most players is age.
And it's just a composure, having a composure to know that if you get it right,
you're going to be going run through a goal.
And that's what he's done.
So yeah, it's a difficult skill, of course,
to be two players with a beat.
Isn't it nice seeing a player beat a player again?
It's just nice seeing a player run at people and dribble
and try and beat a man rather than pass it.
I'm at the match these days, you know, just wants to live pool and see
that young lad real does actually saying get the ball and commit and defend this.
Yeah, it's been nice to see that with the,
especially the young players as well, because sometimes with young players,
they can have a bit of a fear and of the senior players.
And, you know, if they're shot with the ball,
they feel like they have to give them the ball and
but I was thinking today, every time,
Liverpool got the ball, I was thinking, just give it to him,
give it to him, give it to that real and let him go and dribble.
So it's what I've heard him in town,
and especially them too, I think, this season.
And I think they've been managed well as well,
Bayali Slot and Mikhail Hateta have managed them really well.
Yeah, we don't, I don't think I've seen any interviews with Max Downman,
yet, and obviously in an age where we're seeing half-time interviews and stuff.
Do you think that's the right approach at the moment?
We spoke with you and Michael on the podcast,
but it recently, how important those around you are,
particularly at this point.
Yeah, no, definitely.
And as I said before, I know he was laughing,
but he asked all his GCSEs and his education,
I'm sure for him, his family is important as well.
And so I think the less pressure, the less, you know,
enthusiasm, he'll probably be doing some internal one to that.
It's not just to get him used to it, and they'll probably be holding them back,
but even so we get used to speaking in front of the cameras and stuff.
But I think nowadays, the younger lads now have,
as you said, about social media to throw it all the time anyway.
So I'm sure they'll probably be okay doing interviews,
but I think it's better just to keep them away from the public
for this period.
What do you reckon the last 24 hours or so will have been like,
for him? Can you remember the 24 hours after you scored ironically,
by the way, the goal for Everton against Arsenal?
So it's just a reverse.
It feels like it's a real kind of twist of fate.
Yeah, no, it's...
Well, I was back out playing with my mates underneath,
and I scored after the game, so I don't know what.
It went like now with social media and seeing everywhere.
So we'll be seeing it everywhere.
People will be messaging us whatever they can spam us,
Twitter, whatever he's got.
And we'll be seeing it everywhere.
So I don't think he will have slept many hours last night,
because I'm sure he will have been off-botting it,
and seeing people's reactions to his goal and stuff.
So no, but he'd be delighted, I'm sure.
What's the most important thing he can do right now,
in order to, like, not let it get to his head,
or maybe to keep the performances consistent,
because, like you're saying, it's everywhere.
How'd you get away from it?
And there's going to be loads of people,
probably writing articles calling in the English messy tomorrow.
So, like, how does he move on from here,
and make sure he keeps himself grounded?
Well, it seems like he's doing that.
Anyway, we come through in preseason, obviously, with Arsenal,
and then I think he played a few times,
coming on off the bench, a few times,
and, in short, I think, his parents,
so this family will be helping with that,
Micka Latetta, some of the senior players in the Arsenal squads,
and we'll all, I'm sure, not let him get ahead of himself.
But I think you have to enjoy it as well.
You know, sometimes you, you know, people think
that enjoying success is elegant,
and that you think, they do it in the States,
they have successful athletes,
and they enjoy it in the celebrator.
So, when we've got a young lad, like,
like, that coming through is 16, you know,
and he's clearly got a lot of ability,
and you just hope he can go and fulfill that potential is.
Let's enjoy it, and you know, let him go and express himself.
Does it bring with it another side, though,
because I imagine that as soon as you're thrust into this spotlight,
as soon as everyone's talking about you,
there's a lot of people that kind of jump out of the woodwork
that kind of want a piece of you,
sorry to talk about, like, the negative side,
but there must be some kind of pitfalls
that kind of come with it, too.
Yeah, and that's, I think, that's just,
that's where I'm sure the club will be trying to help him with that,
and his parents or family,
or if that may be, will be helping him with that,
and note out, you know, one on Monday morning,
and we'll see, you know, is,
I was going to say one of his former teachers,
but probably he probably still is the teacher,
but... Do you reckon he actually is going to school on Monday morning?
It's like, this podcast's going out on Monday morning,
does he go to school just like it like?
No, he'll be, he'll have school,
but he'll have, they'll be releasing,
he'll have two or three days,
probably a week off, I'm sure,
or he'll have tutors coming to help him,
with work, but what he misses, because of the football,
but, yeah, no, he'll have, he'll have cultures when he was a kid,
he'll be young lad,
popping up on, and that's, that happens,
and I think, I used to get worked up by that,
when I was that age, I was thinking why,
yeah, I think, why they, you know, doing that,
I think it's different now, with different age,
when I was coming through,
there was no social media at that time,
so it was all about the newspapers,
and, you know, whether it was later or not,
you was from page and back page, you know,
I think it's maybe not, the scrutiny's not on you as much,
maybe these days.
Did you buy all the papers after that game?
What did your parents buy them?
My parents probably will have, yeah,
I can't remember, three minutes.
Yes, I think they probably weren't thinking about buying papers,
but I don't know, it's just such a different era, isn't it?
But watching that game, okay, it did feel like,
I mean, you've probably seen Wayne, you've seen it as well,
there's been comparisons, hasn't there?
I've seen a few people say the last time they saw a young player
making impact like that, was probably Wayne,
it felt like, I don't want to over-hype it,
and I don't want to become part of the media
that had jumped in on the bandwagon,
but it felt like almost a bit of a moment in time.
Yeah, it was a really, really nice moment,
and I think it was one of those moments
that all football fans watch,
regardless of the team you support, and sort of,
I thought I'm most happy for it.
Yeah, I was happy for the kid, right?
You know what I mean?
And it was because it was playing exciting football
and stuff as well, and to cap it off of a goal was absolutely amazing,
but I think, obviously, you know,
everyone's going to be making a comparisons with Wayne,
and they're going to be making a comparisons
with all sorts of young players,
but I think it's important not to get ahead of ourselves
and to let him enjoy the moment
without trying to put added pressure onto it.
I think let him be maxed-downman and let him enjoy it
and see how far he can take it,
rather than already putting up,
like putting even more pressure on him to,
like, because, like, let's be serious,
if he still goes on to become an amazing Premier League player,
and he doesn't win as much as way, he's not a failure,
do you know what I mean?
But, like, adding that little bit of pressure on to him is a bit,
I don't know, I don't like it.
I just want him to do as well.
Seems some of those games I've watched,
he seems to, you know, not let that pressure affect him,
because, you know, the same one I've just said before
with a young Rio footballer, he gets the boys,
he holds on to it, he commits the fenders,
he goes to take them on, and so he's definitely,
he looks like he's got a confidence about him.
But how much of that is just youth?
Like, because you and Michael were talking about it,
and saying, when you're young, you just got no fear,
and, like, at what point is it where the fear comes out,
and then you go, you start thinking about
second-guessing yourself again.
I think that happens, Natalie,
when you're settled in the team,
and then people start picking up on your mistakes,
and I think, as a young lad, you're very,
rarely get criticised for giving the ball away,
or, you know, you make a mistake,
which leads to a goal, you know,
you're getting college to keep your head open,
and whatever the ball, when that starts happening,
then maybe, and I've seen it happen with many players,
they say, oh, you know what, I'm not going to miss this pass,
I'll play here, because I don't want that to happen again.
So, but, as I said, he's got a, not a free pass,
but he's got an opportunity now to go and show
everyone his ability, enjoy it, and,
and I'm sure, if he plays the potential,
he'll be along, enjoy watching him.
Do you know what I think the shows as well,
for players like Max Dam, and like Ryo and Gamawar,
how important it is to just take your chances,
when you're given a shot, when you're given an opportunity
to go out there and play fearless,
and forget about whether,
like, what's the worst that can happen,
like, you try something, it doesn't work,
because if you, if you don't try anything,
you might not get picked anyway,
so you might as well go for it, right?
Yeah, well, I used to say to the young players at my United,
when I was there, when I was a bit older,
as a young lad called Demi,
Demetri Mitchell,
yeah, yeah, no, yeah, it was, yeah, it was, yeah, it looked full back,
and then, equal and same with us,
and I said to him before, I said, you have,
you have to leave it impact on the same session.
I don't know if I've, I might just say it here,
we've said it here before, yeah.
So, so, so,
stuff like that, where you have to leave it impact,
so when you get an opportunity to play in the Premier League,
try and come off that pitch with,
by, obviously, squad the goal board,
if you're a defender, if you don't,
you don't go on to pull it as great tackling,
and if you clear balls out the box,
if you've got blocks in,
if you're a forward, if you create these opportunities,
if you've got, you shot off,
if you've made good ones in advance,
I'd leave it impact where people of your worked hard,
the other players had another players,
I'd leave it impact where the man's you'll think,
you know what, you just have to go again.
Do you think Arsenal almost need a bit of that fearlessness,
because you could sense even from watching on TV,
there was that bit of tension around the Emirates,
and they so desperately want to win this title,
could he actually be the perfect addition to this team,
to kind of, because he's not burdened by the pressure of past seasons?
But what are opportunities for them to be around the squad?
He could be a Premier League winner when he's just
still finishing school off?
Oh my god.
That is a mad thought, is it?
Yeah, do you think now he has to play a bit more,
what, you know what, do you think he's the perfect off the bench for Arsenal?
Yeah, no, I think just from now to the end of the season,
I don't know how much he's pushed
or with his education, I think.
I'm sure McLaren's basketball have had his parents in and his family in,
and spoke about what his education means to me and how much he himself
and his family pushing for that to get good marks on that.
And if that's the case then, as imagine, especially now,
he won't be in as much as he probably liked,
but he's got, you know, just get them out of here now.
As you've got, you've many years ahead of you.
Surely if you're Michel Artetti, you're saying,
please put the schoolwork on hold until the end of May.
Like, just, we just need him as part of our squad,
because we thought, like, am I overstating it when he,
it felt like he changed the game for us,
well, yesterday when he came on,
not aside from his goal contributions,
just the way he was playing.
Yeah, as an impact, I think it was the,
the theme was Newcastle and Preseason,
that was the first time I've seen him.
And you could see he's got an aura about him.
He's got a belief in himself.
It looks like about him and it was the same.
He asked him to come on against that.
And so, yeah, he can have an impact.
I don't think there's any debate in that,
but I just think for me, it was all football over education.
And I don't know what his situation is.
So if it's education first,
then I don't think you'll see that much
removed in the next couple of weeks.
Yeah, we'll call them.

Once.
You've obviously got first-hand experience
of recently watching Kaya kind of grow up in academies as well.
Have you noticed a difference in the way young players are treated now
and going back to what you said and you said on multiple pods
before about the way football's changed?
Do you have any concerns that this freedom
that you've got could be kind of coached out of them?
It depends on your coach.
Every coach is different as well.
No, I think he's a fantastic player.
We've still produced him in players.
You look at probably someone like a cold partner.
Similar to, you know, he still plays with that freedom
which you'd be like to see in players.
So other things are fear of getting coached out.
Yeah, I think we've just got let him
found him as a player.
Yeah, let him found the right position.
He said, wow, there's a number 10, there's a number now.
Whatever, he's still got a lot of development in his body as well.
Still developing.
So, you know, let that see where he is in a few years
and then hopefully he's helping England as well.
Do you think this leaves Artetta with a good headache admittedly
in terms of like his midfield options
beyond the end of this season?
Does he have to kind of prioritise
downwinds minutes going forward
and relook at his midfield?
No, I think maybe a few years
and that's what happened.
Natalie, the young player comes in normally.
We had him in my unit when
myself and Ronaldo were coming through and then
you could see that I think it was obvious to me
and we've got to take home from Vanistria as cold scorers
and so that's Natalie happens anyway with your team.
But with Tellman, I don't even think he classes a player
in the squad home because he's obviously that young,
he's still in school, he's classes in academy play at the minute
and so he won't be good paid, which I told him.
What's it?
What?
What do you mean you don't get paid?
What, nothing?
No, I wouldn't, you can't get paid until you left school, can you?
Can you know what? I didn't know that.
No, you start your scholar when you leave school and...
So, you've got players on there that have been
played hundreds of thousands away
and then he's just like replaced him on the pitch
and come on and done that.
He could probably still be put as an
expenses in, we used to do that with England
for petal and stuff.
Well, I used to meet up with England, the U-Team,
these are the 15's,
used to pay for your petal whenever you throw from,
so I used to,
whenever we were meeting up, I used to find the
fairethest place away in England.
That's where he's throwing from.
Oh yeah, I came from Lanzend, sorry.
So, hold on, like, he's,
so he's probably not got a contract yet
if that's...
No, you have one pre-agreement, obviously, but...
Oh, he can put any numbers on that now.
Yes, obviously, all,
everything that's happened this year is helping him
from that point of view, but...
Is this why you had to get a K-A?
Deal, Wayne, to make him money off the cross-fonsorship,
because you couldn't get a car,
because he won't be in paid.
No, I had to deal with Ford when I was about 14.
No, it was...
That was, um...
Obviously, he wouldn't give me cars then,
but that was for me dad.
Oh, nice.
When I scored against the Arsenal,
I think I was, like, on £75 a week or something, that was...
You're a joke, kid.
But then, that was four days before me,
17,
30, so when you set 10, 17,
you can sign up for a professional contract.
So, I was still on a school, yeah.
Damien signed a pre-agreement with Arsenal in January.
So, yeah, it's all sorted.
Arsenal weren't going to sleep on that one, were they?
And I'm fed they're pretty relieved they didn't after
what's happened in recent games.
It's going to be really interesting.
Is it, Wayne, does it get annoying, actually?
Every time a teenager does well in the Premier League,
get idiots like us asking,
you is either the next big thing.
But can I just...
One more thing, though.
Can I just...
So, that time when you scored against Arsenal when you were 16,
all your mates have probably gone,
oh, yeah, well, yeah, drinks are on you.
You've just gone from the Premier League
and you've got £75 a quid, so you're skinned.
I only have four days to wait.
I used to follow money off of me mum and dad
until I was...
Until I was having full contact.
I remember when I went into...
I was thinking I was going to get this big
out of the end stuff when I was 17,
and then it was past me testing.
Then I remembered that I had the team before,
so that's why I had to go in the K-A.
I'm so glad you had the deal with Ford,
because it's just so funny.
Just that idea of you borrowing money while you scored in the Premier,
it's just that's bonkers to me.
No, no, but it's just bonkers.
You don't think of it.
I thought we'd be on loads anyway.
Sorry, that's very insightful.
Yeah, we've digressed a bit there,
but it's just the world that you don't even think of.
And probably people listen to this as well.
I'll be like, oh my gosh, yeah, that's wild.
Right, I just said it then.
It's probably annoying every time a teenager does well.
And we sit here and ask you,
are they the next big thing?
Are they the next big way, Mooney?
But how big genuinely do you think this player can be?
It's hard to tell.
I think it really is.
It's hard to tell with any player
who at that age you were coming through.
I think for him, he's focusing on keeping playing,
keeping enjoying playing and hopefully
with the right guidance and the right culture as well.
He can go on to be a superstar for England, you hope.
But you know, you never know.
We've seen plays come through before.
You know, it was before James Vaughan, before Diamond.
And as a good career, but then you never know
whether they're going to be absolute superstar
or the college you'd go on to have good careers.
So I think time will tell.
I just hope he's disguised on to be brilliant for England, OK?
Selfish down there, you don't care because of Arsenal.
No, no, no, no, 100%.
I mean, I would love for him to do well for England,
but like I said earlier,
I just don't want to put bags of pressure on him
because that's way too much media.
He's sounding too pundit like.
No, you don't know,
because honestly, don't know,
because I do want him to be like the next big thing.
But it is so hard, like you need so much luck behind you
as well with injuries and stuff like that.
So hopefully he gets to just be on the same courses on now
and it leaves England to a ball cup.
Yeah, yeah, big point.
As for Arsenal, overall title race,
I've given what happened at West Ham as well.
No, I don't think it's over.
I think they've obviously had a credible position here.
What is it, 9 points?
9 points?
Yeah, 9 points, yeah.
If City won the game in London,
then it'd be Arsenal's three points.
So I think Arsenal, I've no worries about Arsenal getting
complacent because this is before the very efficient
and they look like the mentality is,
and the mindset is really focused.
So I think it'd be difficult for City to win the league now,
but it's definitely not whole run done.
Should we talk about Rio and Guamoa then,
because why you already mentioned him.
And he's kind of, there's been a few people talking about him
in recent weeks, hasn't he?
He played really well in the FI Cup.
I think it was for Liverpool at Wolves.
After that disappointing result, I'm only
a few days before.
What is it you're really enjoying about him?
And do you feel like he should be playing even more?
Yeah, just a side weakness.
You know, watching the game today,
and everything with the ball.
Pedro Paul always, you know, have nightmares.
And obviously, matches that he sort of checked the stats.
So we had 7 out of 7, 100 percent
triple success, which was very rare.
So yeah, I think when you have a player who's
committing defenders and making them defend,
that's what any fan wants to see.
Yeah, it was a big statement.
It felt like there was quite a lot of big statement
team use from Liverpool today.
And I don't know, it just felt like it was nice to see
another big player, a young player,
come through and be the story.
Although, admittedly, it wasn't the story in the end,
with the way that game ended.
Yeah, I mean, I was a bit worried when they took him off.
I was like, I hope it's not anything serious.
Maybe they're just trying to manage
his minutes or whatever.
But he's not one of the only bright sparks
at a moment in that forward line.
They brought on Salar and stuff afterwards,
but they didn't make much of an impact.
But yeah, he's, like Wayne just alluded to,
like just having players run in again, man.
I just love it.
Like, wingers getting a bit of paint on their boots.
It's just, it's the stuff we want to see, right?
And it's what you watch football for.
It's, yeah, it's nice when you see people
passing it around for a goal or whatever.
But when you just, there's something so
pure about seeing a young player,
just take the ball and go give it to me
and want to try and make something happen.
And these guys are doing that.
And long may it continue.
What did you make of Liverpool,
overall, Wayne?
Is, is it on a slot under any pressure at all now?
Because that was a disappointing result.
I think there's a few booze at full-time Anfield.
I love what the, what the,
what the, what the, objectives were
before the season, but obviously as champions,
I think he'd be expected to finish the Champions League spot.
So, and then, I'm sure they'll have conversations
and if he doesn't, then to see what happens from there.
But, yeah, no, I think Liverpool,
they've still got, they've been a bit inconsistent this season.
I'm named, you know, this time,
so they've played very well in their times,
where, you know, they haven't been as good in,
loving new, new silence in the building.
And maybe some players are not playing as well,
as we've seen them in previous years.
So, yeah, I think they'd be hoping to get a Champions League, please.
It does feel like those Champions League places are hot and up,
go on, okay?
You can wax lyrical about Man United here if you want to.
Well, yeah, look, Michael Carrick's doing a great job.
Man United, I just, I just, I just wish to go.
We could just keep re-recording that and playing.
No, of course, yeah, and look, man.
Like, three-one against villa.
We're putting a bit of space between us and them.
Casimir was amazing once again.
And it was nice to see it.
I wish he could, but I think he's made up his mind.
I think he's, there's talks of him going to Italy,
but Bruno Fernandez, what he's been doing.
I think he matched David Beckham's record today.
It's taken him a quicker time to get over 100 gold and assist
than it did for Messi.
I think one game, fewer than Messi.
Yeah, just all in all, everything's going well.
I can't, I can't complain.
The long way to continue.
There's exactly right on, on Bruno.
I think you're getting sort of as passing today.
He's incredible.
And then for, for, for Michael, obviously,
gone in there.
And then if you were to say when he was going in stuff,
well, I said, wait till after the city
and you would have said then the United
got to be sitting comfortably in third place.
You know, potentially, could you catch city for second place?
He said, well, I still remember.
It's, well, he's, well, he's done and he had the blip, obviously,
against Newcastle, where it was a, it was a poor performance,
especially when Newcastle haven't had men.
But other than that, you know,
picking up wins, fan way to win games.
And players look happy.
He's got it and put them in,
in position to get the Champions League
spartle, doesn't obviously sit in Arsenal.
We'll fight with the title.
So, I just go scoring again as well.
Like minutes per game, per goal or whatever.
It's just, it's just the insane.
The guy's conversion rate is looking really,
really healthy right now.
He's killed himself because he doesn't score when he starts.
So he's these are easy for Michael to say this.
You're on the bench, you scored him.
It's how you're on the bench.
Yeah, I mean, but yeah, I mean, look,
if history is anything to go by, there's no harm in being a superstar
but, man, you know, it is a,
that's not one wants to be that always thinking.
He's on a plate, definitely.
In terms of Bruno Fernandez, his stats are just a joke, aren't they?
It feels like he beats records week in,
week out. He's been at United through one of the more difficult periods of history.
Had he played in maybe one of your teams, Wayne,
or in one of the most successful areas for United,
do you think he'd be really talked about as kind of
one of the greats, one of the legends,
or to, I guess, people that watch Man United,
weekend, week out, probably already.
Well, they're a bit,
been a bit nicer to some of the expundits would have been a bit nicer to him
if he'd have played back then.
But okay, he stats are insane.
And if you see where he was playing at the beginning of the season,
he was taking a ball away from his own defenders
and giving it to the forward players.
So for him to put up those numbers,
sorry, I can't you offer him,
but yeah, to put those numbers up,
yeah, no, for to put those numbers up,
give them the context of this season,
who's playing better than him?
I don't think you can find somebody that has played better than him.
I think he's,
you know, we've seen the point of doing me for a few years
with Manchester City and what the point of what he was doing
and his vision as a assist,
everything.
Bruno's just stepped up to the Premier,
that that played in the Premier League since the point is left,
obviously, and he's been incredible.
From my time of playing,
whatever, I said this last week,
he's,
you just don't know whether he got asked
whether he's getting in your team
or whether you just don't know,
we have obviously some top players.
But Bruno is by far the best player in that squad
and obviously captain.
And as you said,
during a difficult period,
he's still managing to score goals,
create goals and be the most influential player.
So, of course, you have to talk about him
as being in his time.
Now a United's best player,
boy, I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted to win more
so he's within the team.
Let's finish on Anthony Gordon Wayne
because he obviously scored the winner,
Chelsea on Saturday.
And then there was a lot of talk,
wasn't there in midweek about the fact
that he didn't play against Barcelona.
And have you seen his post-match interview
that he did after the game on Saturday and what he said?
What I was saying is about the sports,
I don't need to come out and say it anyway,
but what I was saying is sports science
will probably be saying,
oh, he can only play 20 or 30 minutes.
And so, that's the way the game is now
and, you know, managers,
you know, doctors all get involved
and you put in place at risk of getting injuries
and stuff.
So, that's where I was coming from anyway.
In both games.
You think that's all just a little bit much?
Oh, 100%.
That wouldn't have happened
when Ferg he was here in terms of...
I'm just...
No, sports science told me to...
So, I'm a stats nerd telling Fergley,
like, I can't play.
I think the old school generation
is if you fit to play, you can play.
Yeah.
No one's going to say,
oh, you can play 20 or 30 minutes,
but anyway, I think Anthony's here.
Obviously, I don't think any of us was questioning
actually, that's the sense out of it,
but I don't think any of us were questioning
is desire to play.
You know, I think it was more...
It was strange because if you're ill,
sometimes you...
You'd have to game completely.
That was the strange bit,
saying he could play 20 or 30 minutes.
Yeah, I think he'd been...
They said he'd been ill in bed for a few days
and I don't think he'd even tried before the game
and he'd...
Eddie, how came out in the week as well?
Didn't he, and kind of, said...
No, it was my decision.
So, yeah, it obviously, it obviously,
something somewhere along the line had rolled them
a little bit about it,
but I mean, he did his talking on the pitch
and was brilliant on Saturday, wasn't he?
Okay, well, that's where we'll leave it.
I remind you we'll be back as always on Friday, too.

A new era of Formula One is about to dawn.
I think the biggest step the sport I've ever seen
there are new rules, new cars,
and a brand new team.
In Formula One, it's your absolute brutal pure competition.
And the next generation of star drivers

I'm going to go like a madman.
If you want to make it, first of all,
you have to believe that you have what it takes.

Somebody's going to get it right,
