Rosewood Crawfish Festival Celebrates 19th Year

On April 2, 8th, Columbia's Rosewood Crawfish Festival just marked its 19th year, bringing

straight Louisiana heat to the South Carolina State, Fairgrounds on May 3rd.

For two decades running since 2006, folks have flocked for pounds of fresh crawfish shipped

direct from the values, live music stages, art, vendors, and family-friendly action every

spring.

Organizer David Britt, who's run this since day 1 and teaches event management at USC,

wears by Louisiana mudbugs over local ones.

Supplier Cody Gillery from Cody's Crawfish Shop, halls him in fresh Thursday before, serving

him Saturday with Cajun Budon sausage stuffed with pork, rice, and spices as the perfect

sidekick.

Locals in Louisiana transplants love it as a taste of home, especially since Crawfish season

hits just once a year.

Sponsor Dano's pizza has been in since the start on Rosewood Drive, slinging slices for

crawfish skeptics and kids, while raving about past acts like, sister Hazel and spin doctors

that keep the crowd hooked.

This go round, Grammy winners, Dirty Doesn't Brass Band Headlined, the New Orleans crew

from 1977, who sped up brass traditions and birthed dance moves like bud jumping.

They shared the bill with Jimmy Buffett, bring out your dead, slim pickens, and Zotico

party tunes, plus young talent from Columbia Arts Academy on a second stage.

With sunny made weather on lock, shades, and sunblock in hand, the fest keeps growing

as Columbia's top spot for No La Sohit, the site for next years, drop and keep that

culture alive.
