Brian, it is officially spring.
It is.
Roasters are officially in.
We are officially in a week where regular season baseball will be played.
It feels really official.
It does.
It feels official and it feels good, and I'm not going to sing the song from 1990.
Okay.
Coming up on today's show, Cal Raleigh and Randy Orozirana kissed and made up.
We're going to talk about that in segment three.
But first, the first two segments of our show will be dedicated to the Yankees upcoming
roster for the 2026 season, which begins in two days.
I can't believe we're here, but I also can believe we're here.
Yeah, we will do this week.
We'll be packed with the roster today, divisional previews from me and Stacey's perspective
coming up.
We're going to look through the season schedule and some big series at some point in the
week.
It'll be a jam packed week for content.
So you guys are going to have plenty of that as we go up to Wednesday and opening day.
They've pretty much made their final decisions on their roster.
I don't think there were many massive surprises from our perspective.
I think the only thing is, and the news that came out earlier in the weekend, is the
fact that Randall Gritchick made the team was given a major league deal for $2.5 million.
And I think that was the question coming into camp when they brought him into camp.
It was kind of the question of, can he make this team and can he be a part and filled
his roster spot?
And it does feel like this is two and a half million, at least for my perspective.
And I kind of get the sent you to agree with me.
This feels like a two and a half million dollar investment in Jason Dominguez.
And this allows Dominguez to play in AAA, it allows him to get more time.
He doesn't have to be a bench player in the major leagues and it allows him to play a full
time.
It's a weird way of saying it's an investment in Jason Dominguez.
But if you hear me out in the path that I'm leading you on, that's what I think this
feels like to me.
It's two and a half million dollars for a bench outbuilder who's going to play against
lefties.
You'll probably see him a day or two a week.
I think it's a good investment.
I do.
And I think you're not asking Randall Gritchett to come in and hit 315.
No.
You're asking him to come in, play a solid field, give some guys some spells and get
days off here and there.
You're not asking too much.
Two and a half million dollars for a fourth outbuilder is a pretty good price in today's
climate, I think.
Yeah.
And with the way he hits lefties and the way he's been doing it for the past four years,
he may not do other stuff well, but he does that well and the eighties need that.
So yeah, it's an interesting decision.
We talked about it last week.
It looked like it was pretty much a done deal from the reports that we saw.
It was basically like, oh, the eighties are finally interested in Randall Gritchett.
It took them a while because I remember talking about him on the show a few years ago saying,
why wouldn't you take a chance on him at this point?
And they didn't because the eighties are doing their typical, let's get a guy after
his, after his peak years and sign him routine that they like to do.
But you know, it's not a big risk at $2.5 to $2.5 million to the Yankees is absolutely
nothing.
And if he completely falls up, you call up, you fall off your call objects, the Dominguez
and you call it a day.
That's why I view this as a two and a half million dollar investment in Jason Dominguez.
This signing allows Jason Dominguez to play every single day in AAA because he doesn't
need to be the Yankees for a doubt they'll do they currently have one and work on things
in AAA.
Exactly.
So with that note, he will be starting the year in AAA.
That was announced also in the years of the Yankee, he will start by the way in AAA
along with Oswala Cabrera.
This was more free from the Yankee perspective as he's still working back from his injury.
He's not fully back yet, not fully back ready for a full major league campaign.
So he's going to start the year in AAA.
I don't have much of a problem with that.
His numbers aren't he's not going to be a full-time player anyway.
So we also have other guys to fill the role that he would normally fill because you have
Gritchick for the outfield.
You have Ahmed Rosario for the infield.
You have Cabrera taking over for Volpe because Volpe is injured and Cabrera is like the odd
man out.
Totally fine with this move.
Yeah.
I'm sure and these things have a weird way of working themselves out, but there's a good
chance that Cabrera finds his way on the Major League roster at some point later on this season.
Not sure when, but let's let him get some spells and some time in AAA just back to playing
baseball on every evening.
That was a gruesome injury that he's coming back from.
And it wasn't even a year ago.
It was May.
So he, you know, the fact that his ankle went in the opposite direction that it was supposed
to go in and he had such an, not invasive.
What's the word I'm looking for?
Just like a, a big surgery for that ankle.
And yeah, I'm fine with him starting in AAA.
He wanted him to be healthy because if the time comes where he has to come up and play,
you need him to be okay and be 100%.
Exactly.
As Stacy mentioned earlier, a men Rosario is going to be their backup infielder rotation
kind of guy.
The rounding the rest of the bench out will be JC Escara as the backup catcher expected
and pole bulge.
One thing he'll be, he's going to be the Randall Gritchick of the infield because he's going
to be the one that comes to bat to hit from a certain side because he hits a certain
side better than anything else.
So that's why they got both those guys.
I mean, you know, it's, I get why they did that, yeah, yeah, yeah, you can argue.
And then Paul Goldschmidt will be the backup for a spaceman.
I, I don't mind Goldschmidt being on this roster.
I'm just hoping from a Yankee perspective, they don't feel the need to play him too much.
Right.
Yeah.
Like, I don't want them to be like, oh, Ben Rice is starting out slow.
But we can have into the season and start starting.
Yeah.
And then Goldschmidt gets a game and then Goldschmidt plays well in that one game and then
Ubisoft's the plan for the next month.
Like, I don't, we don't need that.
So that is one of those things we're going to be clenching a little bit, hoping that
they don't.
It's not funny that we have these thoughts in our head already before the season even
starts because we all because we know what's going to happen because we've seen this
story before.
Yeah.
We watched the movie.
We know how it ends.
Yep.
So the catchers on this roster are going to be Austin Wells and JC Escara funny enough when
the Yankees released everything they actually, well, actually, they haven't released anything
officially yet from the organization itself, but all the media, the press guys and the media
members that cover the team have released it.
So they obviously get their information from somewhere.
Sorry.
If you read the tea leaves, Ben Rice is not listed as a catcher.
And I think that's a good thing because they could release him.
They could, they could release the list as an infielder and a catcher.
They could do both.
They didn't put him on the, on the depth try to catcher.
I like that.
This focus on him being only a first baseman, just a first baseman 24, seven, that's his
future position.
That's where he needs to be.
So I like that.
That seems to be the decision that was made.
Yeah.
I think it would be, you know, one of those break in case of emergency things, like something
really bad would happen for Ben Rice.
Exactly.
I complete.
And I don't think, to be honest with you, I don't think that would last long either.
I think if there was a break in case of emergency thing where he had to play catcher, they're
going to either trade for someone in the coming hours or they're going to call
him up from AAA.
They're not going to let him play a full time roller catcher.
It's not worth it.
They're his baddest two important in the middle of the one.
Yeah.
The infielder is going to be rounded out with Ben Rice, jazz, jasmine, junior, Jose Caballero,
Ryan McMahon, Paul Goldschmidt, Ahmed Rosario, no surprises there, along with the outfield,
no surprises, Cody Ballinger, Trent Grisham, Aaron Judge, Randall Grisham, and John Carlos
Stanton is listed as the designated hitter on the roster, not listed as a potential
outfielder.
You know, I don't play right field the other day.
Yes.
I thought, I saw a picture of him out there and I said, are those warm ups?
And then I looked, I was like, Oh, no, they haven't listed as the right fielder.
Okay.
Do we need to do that in spring training?
No.
Honestly, like, do we need to do that?
I don't think we do, but you know, yeah, he's the thing is he's a veteran, right?
So he's played his time in the outfield.
So I don't need he, I don't think he needs the reps in a spring training game.
You want to, let's say you want to get an age, just keep him a DH.
If you want, but if, and if you want to see him get to balls in the gap or catch pop flies,
do that on a practice field in the back somewhere.
You don't need to be doing that in a game, so you can hurt himself.
Like, I don't, you're playing with fire and there's no need to do that.
I would love to sit here and, and listen, me and Stacey throughout the entire year
are going to give you guys our strong opinions on this Yankee roster.
We're full of them right now for opening day.
And I would love to sit here and give you some grandiose big statement on the Yankee roster
and how I feel about it.
Who should have made it?
Who should have made it?
I don't know if this is like a proud moment for like the sports radio gods that have led
me to this career that I'm in.
I don't have a big take on the Yankee roster right now.
This is exactly what I expected the roster to be minus Gritchick in December.
Pretty much.
Nothing has changed.
And nothing has, has updated.
We knew they were bringing Kabaiero back, not that he was going to move anyway.
We, we figured they'd bring Gulchmith back.
That wasn't an overall big surprise.
A med Rizario coming back, that was in December, I believe.
So that's not a shock to anybody.
Like again, I, I would love to sit here and, and, and yell and scream and have this big
take on who should have made the Yankee roster or who shouldn't have.
But I don't think you're going to disagree with me here.
There's no surprises here.
No, there's, there's nothing surprising.
There's nothing different.
There's nothing that should have maybe could have with us that I don't have that answer
for you guys.
I'd love to give you one.
But this is what's expected.
This is what we knew would come in December.
And when you kind of sit here and give it the running it back, take that everyone sees
to be going with publicly from a lineup perspective, yeah, they're kind of doing that with
they're not doing that is the pitching staff and the bullpen.
That's what we're going to get to next because that's the important side where we've got
our big opinions.
So coming up next, the pitching department.
What's up guys?

So the pitching staff this a little bit of interest to news that came out earlier today.
Overall, the roster is for the most part done.
We figured out what who's going to be where and what in on what in what spots in the bull
pen and stuff like that.
Let's go over the starting rotation first.
It does look like before I say this out loud, everybody please promise me that you won't
overreacting your seats to what I'm going to say.
It's not that crazy.
There's a reason for it.
The Yankees are starting with a four man rotation again, not that crazy.
It's because of the off days that are built into the start of the regular season.
There's a little bit of extra off days to avoid rain out and stuff.
That is why they're doing this.
It looks like as of now, it's going to be Max Fried, Cam Schlytler, Will Warren, Ryan
Weathers.
Now, Luis he'll likely what we think will be piggybacking with Ryan Weathers in a kind
of like dual start that or he'll be starting the year in triple A, not a demotion, not
because he needs to be in triple A more of because that will keep him on his regular trajectory
and regular track to be able to start for the Yankees when they actually call up and
need him.
I know that Yankees that they play Wednesday, they're off Thursday.
This is kind of what they do to prevent rain out and stuff with these teams.
This is not a big deal.
Yeah, that was reported first by Brian Hoke on Sunday afternoon, which I thought was interesting.
Also the insiders already know because I sent that out as soon as I saw the news because
I wanted to get them up to speed on that.
Yeah, it's just the first couple of weeks of the season with the rain delay days built
in are kind of you can play around with this and you don't have to worry that much about
the rotation and you can do this sort of thing.
It's not a demotion.
Right.
He'll throw the live bullpen on Wednesday.
So it'll be like he's making a start and then they'll work, they'll work him and he'll
be fine.
Let's briefly just say he was fantastic this weekend.
He came back and after that, not so great outing against the Tigers really looked like
Luis Heal of old against the Orioles and you know, it wasn't just like AAA Oriole guys.
He struck out Peter Lonzo twice and made him look silly and he got the ball up to 99
miles an hour in that start.
So Luis Heal figured out what he was doing wrong in that time your start and made up
for it.
And it was a lot of wrong for sure.
This news actually came out, I believe just a little bit earlier too before me in Stacey
went live.
The nationals are treating for Jordan Vivas.
Yes.
We're a bit Vivas.
It's going to the nationals for what was the pick?
What was the ranked prospect that they're bringing from the nationals?
I don't see the ranking on this.
I just see it's a minorly picture named Sean Paul Lignan.
Yeah.
So sad news for Stacey because Stacey loved saying his name.
Jordan Vivas.
Yeah.
Vivas.
Yeah.
Exactly.
So the built in off days that I did mention that I should let you guys know, they are,
they do play the giants as we know on, at the start of the, at the start of the on Wednesday
actually in the middle of the week.
That's the first game of the season, the Netflix game.
Then they're off on Thursday, then they play Friday, Saturday, but then they're off Sunday
and then Monday.
They have kind of like a really weird built in what's up?
They're off on Sunday.
They are.
Yeah.
They play Wednesday, Friday, Saturday.
A Sunday off day.
That's weird because they're starting on Wednesday, I think normally, this is one of
the first years.
I think this might be first year that Major League Baseball started the year where they stand
alone game.
I mean, he's replying to stand alone yet.
Yeah, it is strange.
I agree.
But yeah, that's what they're doing.
Also, I do find it weird.
I don't know if you find this weird.
Their last spring training game is Tuesday.
Oh, yeah, against Arizona.
Right.
No, against Chicago.
In Arizona.
Arizona.
Yeah.
Why?
I don't know.
I don't know who decides to do this.
Yeah.
Like the Monday game, I get it.
All right.
You want to give the game a Monday.
And then you have the day off.
You get ready for opening day.
No, they're going.
Nope.
Yeah.
You can give them the day off and have them go to to San Francisco and just be able to.
That makes no sense to me.
Well, maybe it's because they have the Thursday and the update Sunday.
I don't get it.
But like those games don't count.
The Yankees are going to play literally nobody in the games on Monday and Tuesday.
They're probably going to send him a Julie roster.
Like two San Francisco.
Before.
The rest of the bullpen.
This was the curiosity that everyone wants to know what the particularly with the back end
of the bullpen was going to look like.
And there's one name.
Uh, not on here that you guys are going to recognize really quickly.
So David Bednar, the closer Camilo DeVal.
Uh, the relief.
Most likely a thinning.
Uh, Fernando Cruz, Tim Hill.
Ryan Yarborough.
And here's where the debate came in.
Hey, when Quest, we kind of told you guys about two weeks ago was going to make this roster.
Pretty much no matter what.
Because they need to make the roster for the Yankees to hold him.
Uh, and then Paul Blackburn.
The last guy to make this, uh, this bullpen roster for the New York Yankees.
So.
La Grande, the obvious name that's not there.
Uh, I, I do want to be a little angry because I, his stuff was that electric.
And you heard from a lot of it.
A lot of interviews.
I heard an interview recently with David Cohn where he was pretty much like.
This kid's going to be a stud at the major league level.
He has that level of stuff you can tell already.
He's, he's not just throwing 103 miles an hour.
He's throwing it consistently.
He's not reaching that at one point.
And then it, the rest of the ending.
It's 99.
He's consistently over over 100 miles an hour.
So again, I, I'd be shocked if you didn't make the major league roster and make an appearance of the major league roster at some point in this season.
The way, I didn't expect him coming into spring train to make the roster, but the, the rate at which how good he was this spring.
I'm a little shocked.
He didn't find a way on to this roster just because he was that good.
I'm not just because he has no AAA experience.
So you know how the Yankees are with that sort of thing.
I think that they want him to have a little, at least a little time.
But I feel like he's going to be on the roster.
Even before September call-ups.
That's just my gut feeling.
Would you say before the all-star break or after?
Could be before.
Yeah.
No, I agree.
I think in my opinion, at least, I think it's going to take one injury.
Maybe two.
I do think one injury.
Jake Bird's going to find his way at some point on this roster too.
Oh, yes.
I don't know.
I don't know how you make a trade like that where you believe in a guy so much.
And then he doesn't get a fair share.
He would be the first one ahead of La Grande.
But I feel like it's going to be a pre-September call-up for La Grande.
And I support that fully.
Like to me.
And you know what?
Here's the beauty of it too.
With all the options he'll have.
You can call La Grande up.
And it's the way he looks like if he struggles at the majorly level,
send him back down a little bit of an atrial play for a year.
Like it's fine.
But I think his stuff was that good in that electric where he definitely got himself on the radar of not just Yankee management.
And I think they were probably aware of how good he was at first.
But like Yankee fans became aware of him.
This was the spring training of Carlos the Grape.
He fans became aware of him.
Everybody kind of was acknowledging how good he is.
And that's going to.
That will pay dividends.
I think sometime at some point in 2026.
Yeah.
I mean,
Garry Cole could not stop singing his praises.
And Garry Cole is a pitcher who loves pitching.
And if Garry Cole is saying really good things about you, you're good.
I completely agree with you on that sentiment.
Also speaking of which,
Garry Cole will be starting two games.
Not not two innings of a singular game.
This either Monday or Tuesday against the Cubs.
So we're moving up from one and two to two innings.
So we'll see how it goes.
I, I, again, I do think gone.
Yeah, exactly.
I do think just falling off what you said before.
Like, just stupid.
Like, what, like, why are they going to come to you?
They went to Chicago for one game.
Okay.
Why are they going to play like they need to play the Cubs really?
And again, the Yankees are going to play nobody in that Tuesday game.
Nobody.
So why are we doing that?
Whatever.
I don't know.
I don't understand a lot of things that baseball does.
But, you know,
it's just.
Welcome to 2026.
These might be the last spring training games you can watch until 2028.
That's also a possibility.
Yes.
How to press them.
All right.
Coming up.

So guys, make sure you stay tuned into locked on Yankees throughout the entire week.
Again, it's going to be a lot of season preview kind of stuff.
I think we're going to do a segment at some point in this week's day.
Let's pull the curtain back and get your actual opinion on something before.
I want to do a segment at some point in the week going over the biggest series of the year, like one per month where we pick like a crazy series that we can't wait for.
Sound good? Yeah, sounds good to me.
We'll do that and talk about what we think about the teams in the Yankees division and the American league east as well.
And also stay tuned to the locked on Yankees podcast feed because the divisional preview with the other hosts of in the division will also be up as well.
On that note, some stuff that happened around the league, the news from around the league from the weekend.
The Philadelphia Phillies extended Christopher Sanchez to a six year 103 million dollar contract that works after 17.6 AAV.
I actually think that's a great deal for the upside that Christopher Sanchez offers.
He's got some unbelievable stuff and really ace potential stuff 17.6 million could want up being a tremendous deal in like a year or two if he actually becomes what they think he's going to become.
Yeah, not a bad signing, not a bad deal for him.
Yeah, so still will actually kick in next year for him too, so it's kind of like a seven year deal this last year of the deal that he's on right now is only for 3.5 million this year, which is outstanding.
So you might keep you getting paid that first year that long term deal and a lot.
That's a nice pay raise, huh, going from three to 17.6.
Not bad, right? Yeah, good work if you can get it.
Randy Rosarina did apologize to Cal Raleigh over the WBC stuff again, like we said earlier, we're glad they kissed and made up.
Don't you find a little strange that Randy Rosarina apologized to Cal Raleigh and that was the storyline.
Why is he apologizing? Yeah, like Cal Raleigh was going to refuse to give Randy a handshake.
Don't get me started. I could write a whole dissertation about how team USA behaved during the WBC, but I won't.
Like to me, very, very odd, but you know, we'll see what wants to that.
That is the right move publicly to have that story come out though, just so the mariners look like they've got their belief together because they really are going into a year where they want to see us last year, lost in a game seven.
Like you can't go in with this extra drama between two of your top headers in your line.
I'm going into the year.
And it's silly. It's such silly drama. This is the worst kind of drama that you possibly have for your team.
So I'm glad they squashed it. Hopefully it'll be a done storyline. There won't be anything brought up.
Hopefully the reporters on opening day won't be like, hey, how was it playing today?
You know what I mean?
While I agree, it's stupid and silly.
This kind of report squashes this and shuts it down before any reporter can come in and ask you about it and it becomes a storyline.
It doesn't come out.
Right.
So this was the right PR move and it kind of stinks a little bit.
Reaks of the mariners PR team going up to one of them and saying someone please apologize publicly.
Someone say something because this needs to go away because it's embarrassing.
It's so silly and embarrassing. They should be embarrassed actually.
I mean, that is just crazy to me.
How like starter one of the top guys in the league when he was with the A years ago.
Like the way this guy is thought of and the season after the meds a couple years ago to now be in the bull pentam start in the air.
That's a horrible sign.
I mean, it could have been worse.
Yeah, it could have been Craig Kimberl who didn't make the meds roster.
Yeah.
I guess kind of signifying his careers over.
I don't know the report I saw said that maybe he'll try and catch on somewhere else.
He's never going to go away.
Yeah.
He is one of those guys that will never stop pitching.
No.
He is just always on a team somewhere.
Are you ever left?
You're being like, he's still pitching.
Yeah.
It's it's kind of getting you to David Robertson territory.
Yeah.
Well, he retired.
Yeah.
I know.
But like David Robertson played for like 15 teams because he was so depressing because he was like the last 2009 Yankee left.
Yeah.
And if you want to talk about how long ago that was, you want to talk about depressing.
This is the last note that I have for news around the league, which like my jaw drop that I read this.
Uh, you remember the Orioles from two years ago, right?
Not last year's disappointment.
Two years ago when they were really good when a hundred games went to the post season didn't want to play off game, but we're really good.
Do you remember who the best picture in their rotation was that year?
Yes.
Yeah.
He didn't make the Orioles roster.
That's insane.
And I read in a bunch of articles Tuesday, see that this is the Orioles kind of like expressing the the organizational depth they have at picture.
Is that really does that really have to be done at the fault of one of their best pictures is going to start the year in AAA.
I find this insane.
And like, maybe it's a wake of call for him, but that is to be that good two years ago to fall to this level is quite alarming.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's a.
Who else?
I'm trying.
I, I'm sorry.
I, I've been so, uh, myopic when it comes to news, other than news from around the league, like I'm just been paying attention to the Yankees.
So I don't even know who was in the Orioles rotation because I can't even their rotation is not bad and they've made, they've made, uh, they've made signing this off season.
Exactly.
They got the, they got Zach Eiffel and I believe.
Um, yes.
Um, Trevor Rogers is supposed to be really he's coming back Kyle Bradish.
Um, and I think, I think they signed.
Chris Bassett.
I think they brought it into.
Right.
Um, that's right.
But, but, but right now, like with the way Chris Bassett finished off the year last year, are you really taking him over Dean Kramer?
Right.
I mean, there's one of your top pitchers two years ago.
Like, I don't understand how this could be.
This is the movie you make.
It just, to me, it seems crazy. He's going to start the year in triple A. I, I, I'm stunned.
But I mean, maybe he just needs to work on some things and then he'll be okay.
There are very interesting team going into the year.
They were, they improved in a lot of places.
They're both and got a lot better.
Um, and they, they, they have to get better than they were last year.
Uh, yeah.
Last year makes so little sense.
They have to get better.
Yeah.
Well, last year was really, they dug, they dug themselves such a hole in the beginning.
Oh, yeah.
By the end of May, by the end of May, they were done.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They're, their year is going to be.
They might be, they like, I mean, the Yankees are obviously was going to be the Yankees.
And they're, you know, every team in the division has storylines around them.
They might be the most interesting team they are going to use.
Just seeing what the Baltimore is able to do.
Because you can't, and seeing how they come back from a very disappointing.
No one expected them to be that bad in 2025.
They kind of had an inkling just because of the pitching situation that maybe it wasn't going to be as good,
but they started out so bad that that was the shocking part.
And then when they kind of corrected a bit, and they played a little more at the level where you expected them to play toward the end of the season, you're like,
okay, well, this is what they should have been all year.
But the whole, the whole was too deep.
Yeah.
They had dug way too deep.
I know the pitching wasn't great, but to go from 110 in the year before.
Right.
To what they did last year.
I mean, it is just.
It's still confused.
It's one of the more confusing storylines from last year still to this day.
So they're going to show you they almost have to be better.
That just shows you you can't predict baseball using usually.
Yeah, usually.
All right.
